Connect VO
with ChatGPT

Works today through ChatGPT's Developer mode on paid plans. Add VO with the URL below, sign in, and ask about what you heard.

New to VO?

You do not need an account first. The first time you connect, a free VO account is created from the email you sign in with. It starts empty: listen to an episode in the VO iOS app with that same email, and ChatGPT can recall it.

Already use VO?

Sign in to the connector with the same email you use in the VO app, so ChatGPT reaches your listening. A different email lands you in a new, empty account.

01 / Scope

What ChatGPT can and cannot do here

All eight tools are read-only. The only thing the connector creates is your free VO account, on the first connection.

ChatGPT can

  • Search what you heard and what you saved, by topic, with every moment cited to the second.
  • Summarise a stretch of your listening, such as the last week or month.
  • List the episodes you listened to, with how much of each you heard.
  • Read the moments you saved and your listening notes: the recap VO writes and emails you when you finish an episode, built around your moments and its key points.
  • Give you the gist of any episode, chapter by chapter: what you heard, what you have not heard yet, and where to pick up.
  • Read back the exact words you heard in an episode.
  • Search the VO podcast catalog to find an episode, show or guest.
  • Tell you which VO account it is connected to.

ChatGPT cannot

  • Play, queue or download an episode. Listening happens in the VO app.
  • Save, edit or delete moments or anything else in your account.
  • Share anything on your behalf, or buy anything.
  • Manage your account, subscription or API keys.
  • Read out the word-for-word text of parts you did not hear (it gives only their gist), or anyone else's listening.

02 / Setup

How to connect

About two minutes, and only the first time. Menu names are ChatGPT's and change now and then, so each step says what the control does.

  1. 01

    Turn on Developer mode

    In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings and switch on Developer mode. Depending on your account it sits under Security and login, or in the advanced settings under Apps or Plugins. In a work or school workspace, an admin may need to allow it first.

    Add VO

    In Settings, open Apps or Plugins and create a new one. Name it VO, paste https://mcp.vo.fm/mcp as the URL and set authentication to OAuth. If ChatGPT asks you to confirm that you trust it, confirm, then create it.

    Sign in

    A VO sign-in page opens in your browser. Choose Continue with Google and pick the Google account with the same email you use in the VO app. Sign in with Apple is not available yet. If you have no VO account, a free one is created from that email.

    Switch it on in a chat

    In a new chat, open the plus menu next to the message box, choose Developer mode and turn on VO for that conversation. Then ask about something you listened to.

Cannot find Developer mode?

Developer mode is a beta that ChatGPT offers on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. It is not on the Free plan, and OpenAI does not yet offer it on every account or in every region.

On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin may need to allow Developer mode or custom connectors before the setting appears.

If you still cannot see it, VO also works in Claude, where it is listed in Claude's connector directory: the setup guide is at vo.fm/connectors/claude.

Copy one into a chat with VO switched on. Every answer should cite a vo.fm link that plays the exact second.

05 / Security

Sign in

ChatGPT opens a VO sign-in page in your browser. No password is shared with ChatGPT, and you never paste a key or password into the chat.

Continue with Google

Sign in with Google, using the Google account with the same email as your VO account. Sign in with Apple is not available yet. After you approve access, ChatGPT receives a short-lived access token that only works on the read-only connector tools. Remove VO from ChatGPT's settings to disconnect.

Frequently asked questions

Which ChatGPT plans can use it?

Any plan that has Developer mode: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. OpenAI does not offer Developer mode on every account or in every region yet, and a workspace admin may need to allow it.

Is VO in ChatGPT's plugin directory?

Not yet. Until it is, Developer mode is how you add VO to ChatGPT. It is the same connector either way, so nothing changes for you when the listing arrives.

Why do I switch it on in each chat?

In Developer mode, ChatGPT uses a connector only in the conversations where you turn it on. ChatGPT may also ask you to confirm before it calls a tool.

Do I need a VO account first?

No. The first time you connect, a free VO account is created from the email you sign in with. It starts empty: download the VO app, sign in with that same email and listen to an episode, and ChatGPT can recall it straight away. If you already use VO, sign in with that same email.

Which email do I sign in with?

The one you use in the VO app, because the connector matches you to your listening by email. Sign-in is with Google, so pick the Google account with that email. If you sign in with a different email you land in a new, empty account. To fix that, remove VO in ChatGPT's settings, add it again, and sign in with the right Google account.

Can I sign in with Apple?

Not yet. For now the connector signs you in with Google only, and Sign in with Apple is coming. If you use Apple in the VO app, sign in with a Google account that has the same email as your VO account. If you chose Hide My Email when you signed up to VO with Apple, email contact@vo.fm and we will help you link the connector to your account.

What if ChatGPT finds nothing?

That is normal for a new account. ChatGPT only sees what you listened to in the VO app with the same email. Play an episode in the app, save a moment if you like, and ask again. You do not need to reconnect anything.

What does VO log?

For each connector request we log whether sign-in succeeded, which tool was called, whether it worked, how long it took, and the name and version of the assistant. We do not log what you asked, what the tools returned, or any episode text, note or saved-moment content. Details are in section 4 of our privacy policy.

How do I disconnect?

Remove VO in ChatGPT's settings, where you added it, or leave it switched off in your chats. The access token is short-lived and expires on its own. To have the authorization revoked on our side, or to delete an account created through the connector, email contact@vo.fm.
