In short
A “summer trends” episode about ditching the pressure to have the “best summer ever” and choosing low-stress, kid-friendly plans. They also discuss relationship touch (hugs/kisses), boundaries (“say no”), and practical summer routines.
Guests
No external guests. Hosts are Kristen and Dina, child behavior experts, moms, and co-founders of Big Little Feelings (Dear Media production).
Guest backgrounds (hosts)
Kristen and Dina specialize in child behavior and parenting/mental health through Big Little Feelings.
Key claims
- Kids remember connection more than big trips; staying home can still create lasting memories.
- “At-ease” summers beat perfection; don’t chase algorithm-driven expectations.
- More intentional partner touch (e.g., hugs) supports regulation/oxytocin.
- Boundaries protect peace; saying no is valid.
- Summer routines can loosen (later bedtimes happen).
Notable examples
- Cabo trip derailed by a child puking; the child still remembers snuggling and iPad time.
- “Dad camp”: one parent takes kids out so the other stays home alone for hours.
- Hotel pool passes as a “vacation without traveling.”
- “Fancy hydration” debate: electrolyte packets vs just drinking water/sparkling water.
- “Camp chairs everywhere” vs skipping them; “no” to beach speakers and bucket hats.

0:05Deena:Welcome to another episode of After Bedtime. Besties, summer is here. I think this is our third summer episode in a row, and I'm stoked for today's because this is a fun summer trends episode. Me and Deena just weighing in on what is in and what is out. What are we doing this summer as moms? And what are we throwing to the fucking wind? Because I feel like every mom and a lot of dads are suddenly a camp counselor, a cruise director, a chef, a lifeguard, an Uber driver. And then we're also putting this expectation on ourselves to have the best summer ever. And it's like, you know what, guys, I feel like we got to be really choosy this summer.
0:51Deena:I feel like I want to have an at ease summer. So what is in for this summer so that we can have some ease? And what is out this summer? I'm going to bring my bestie Dina in who's having some technological issues and then we're gonna and then we're gonna rock besties. Welcome to After Bedtime where the house is finally quiet but the real noise begins. The thoughts, the questions, the wondering if you're doing any of this right.
1:19Kristin:We're Kristen and Dina, child behavior experts, moms, and co-founders of Big Little Feelings. And we're not here to give you more pressure or perfect parenting energy. Nope.
1:29Deena:We're here to tell the truth, the unfiltered, beautiful, brutal truth about what it means to raise kids and re-raise ourselves in the process.
1:38Kristin:Because parenting isn't just about sleep schedules and snack hacks. It's about healing. It's about breaking cycles. It's about becoming the kind of adult you want your kids to grow up to be.
1:48Deena:This is the place where we say the quiet parts out loud, and we're so glad that you're here. Dina, welcome. Welcome to the pod.
1:58Kristin:I'm scared. Am I on the verge of a meltdown from technical issues? Yes. Yes. We're just going to be honest.
2:06Deena:Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
2:10Kristin:How are you doing? I'm going to take some deep breaths. I'm going to feel my feet on the floor. Oh, my God. I'm not going to lose my shit, right?
2:21Deena:Mm hmm. Mm hmm. I feel like. Do you ever listen to SmartList? The podcast? I don't. It's been a while. Besties. I don't know if you guys listen to SmartList. By the way, it's all about Amy Poehler's new show. But on SmartList, it's the one with Jason Bateman and Will Arnett and what's his name? Sean. Sean Hayes. and Jason Bateman reminds me a lot of you, Dina. Sorry that I'm laughing, but he always has technology issues and sometimes they let us hear the meltdowns and it's actually really funny. Like, I know it's not funny to you right now. It's not funny. And I'm sitting in this with you and giving space, but he has a true absolute meltdown every time there's a technological issue.
3:11Deena:I already did that. So I'm ready to have fun now. Okay. Now that we're here. That's true. We didn't record the meltdown and that's okay. You know, it wasn't really a Jason Bateman. It was more of an internal implosion that I could see, but like no one was hearing anything happen. You know? It was all inside. As women are apt to do, it was all inside. Tell me about something that happened this morning that doesn't have to do with your technological issues. if you can. This morning. Yeah. Where am I?
3:44Kristin:Where am I? Sorry, that was years ago this morning. This morning? I gave Mike a hug. That's nice. That's different. We're trying to give each other more hugs, honestly, because it raises your oxytocin. So I'm coming at it from a scientific standpoint, but it's it's working.
4:04Deena:I like to come at it as a scientific standpoint, too, by the way. Yeah. Sometimes you have to. It's really the only thing we have to get. You know, we have to like read about hugs and be like, oh, yeah, we should add that to the regimen. Yeah.
4:18Kristin:How many hugs are we aiming for? Like, do we have a repertoire? Science says eight to 10 a day is great. And that's very high. So I'm going for two to three.
4:29Deena:I like that you have the immediate answer to that.
4:32Kristin:I told you I was reading a study on this. and this is coming from someone who I would only let my parents kiss the top of my head like I'm
4:41Deena:very sensitive to touch yeah I'm really sensitive to touch too interestingly but somehow you and I always like hold hands and end up right next to each other somehow we override that because we feel so this this this is such a sensitive girly slash neurodivergent girly thing that we're about to say. I feel like the way that we really bonded as both teenagers and also in our career is we're so overwhelmed by the outside world that if we're sitting somewhere together in like a normal place or a public place where we're filming or something like that, we just naturally converge towards each other in a moment of like comfort and and like mutuality.
5:27Deena:Does that make sense? It's true. Like we're regulating each other.
5:30Kristin:There's so many times where we're on set for things and they're like, uh, girls, can you do like two fish space apart from each other? You're right on top of each other.
5:40Deena:And we don't mean to. We just always end up back there. And it's very interesting. But then with our husbands, we have to be like, hey, science says eight to 10 hugs a day.
5:49Kristin:That's right. So I'm trying it. It's a manual job right now. It's not, you know, natural, but we're going to get there.
5:56Deena:if you keep doing it it will become a habit right yeah I'm easing my way in allegedly allegedly I too am trying to do that but it's been probably a year and I'm not like you in the sense of once I do something I really commit to it mine's like once every few weeks I remember and I'm like oh god right we're supposed to be doing this but I I read something about and it wasn't it doesn't have like a necessary benefit it was just like this is a nice thing to do where when you this is so bad I can't wait to hear when you sorry when you it's so bad because it should be so innate but it's not that's why I'm laughing when you see your spouse like during transitions you should see them and give them a kiss, you know, or a hug and then move through the day.
6:58Deena:You know what I mean? Like when you leave the house for the day or when they return, it's like what we do with our kids. Naturally, we're supposed to like do with our partner. And I'm like, oh, wow. So we've been trying to bring that back. Wow. Yeah. Okay.
7:18Kristin:That's a step up from hugs.
7:20Deena:Do you do that naturally? Can you make me feel better? No. OK, I don't.
7:24Kristin:And I love Mike very much. So we're in a phase right now. I'm like, oh, my gosh, like I want you. I love you. I choose you, you know, and I'm still like we the kisses we have to work our way up to.
7:35Deena:Right. Well, and it's just like the shuffle of life. Like we're you know, the house isn't what it was before kids where you're just like, you know, all it is is we're trying to get out the door. And so obviously we're not all. And then it has become a routine for nine years of just, you know, we're trying to barrel through. So it's like any transition moment, both I'll stop, pause, go over, have a little kiss, have a nice day or have a nice hour or I missed you or whatever.
8:01Kristin:I'm going to say daytime kisses are different than nighttime kisses. It's a thing. Like after the kids are in bed, you mean? Yeah. Then I want to kiss. Daytime?
8:11Deena:I'm not there yet. Are you talking about kissing? Like for real? Like, are you talking about all, Like, I don't know. All types of kissing. I have to think about that. I feel like that's dangerous because that can only lead to one way. And like, I'm too tired. You know what I mean? And also, I think that's the point is you're supposed to have more touch points that are like casual, you know? Right. Yeah.
8:35Kristin:Sounds like we're both working on it in our own ways. And that's beautiful.
8:39Deena:I want to hear from the besties. I mean, I have to imagine we're all in the same spot. Like I have to imagine we love our spouses, our partners so much and really taking intention every single day has got to be like a common thread. Yeah.
8:57Kristin:Right. Add it to the old list. I call the dentist. I got to give some kisses, wipe a butt. Like what's next? What's next? What do you need me to do, guys? What? What? Mommy, what?
9:11Deena:I got to exercise. I I have to do my eyebrows. I mean, what am I? How am I supposed to? I have to do a kiss now.
9:17Kristin:Take the steps. Eat the fiber. Meditate.
9:20Deena:I mean, creatine. I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted. You're right. I did. I put the I put the kisses to the top. You know, I am prioritizing right now.
9:32Kristin:Yeah. Creatine better be on your list for summer trends, by the way.
9:38Deena:Oh, I actually do. I don't know that it is, but I'm going to add it now.
9:41Kristin:I'm excited guys I'm coming in cold which I never do for an episode so I'm a little nervous but I
9:48Deena:think it's gonna be fun you do when it's trends that's true you know what I mean like we have this is a bestie fan favorite we have done what we did 2026 trends we did 2025 trends right and now we're we're we're throwing it midway and doing a summer trend episode and you always come in cold which is the funniest part. Okay. Yeah, you're right. So like just roll with it. Hold on. I'm putting Cree a teen on our list. Whatever happens, happens. Let's roll besties. Let's just start. Let's just, let's go with Trenton. Okay.

10:23Kristin:Coffee. Coffee break. I lost mine in the meltdown.
10:27Deena:Oh no. Dina, you lost your, your full mug of coffee in your meltdown?
10:32Kristin:Yeah. While I was having a meltdown, I placed it somewhere and ran away.
10:36Deena:And I was trying to find Wi-Fi. Comment on it because you have like a you had like a mug inside of your car. Yeah. And now where is it? Who knows? I don't know. I hope you find it after. And I got a parking ticket. OK, let's go. You know, stop. I'm worried about you after this. Me? I'm fine.
11:02Deena:next time there's technological difficulty i want to hear a full jason bateman meltdown i don't want it to be inside anymore you know we're like i'm fine that's such a woman thing to do let's we're gonna let it rip next time i'm gonna let it out like my kids do oh yeah how healing would that be you kind of did just only a little bit it just wasn't that the emotion wasn't behind it there was a lot of swearing but you kept it you kept it at a level you know what i mean
11:26Kristin:It's true. One underratedly confusing part of parenting, feeding kids. Like you make a full meal, protein, veggies, the whole thing. And they're like, I'll have three crackers. So I recently learned about something called hidden hunger. Apparently 50 % of kids are missing key nutrients, even if they're eating regularly. Friends, it makes so much sense when you think about it. And that's why First Aid caught my attention. They make clean, science-backed multivitamins for kids, teens, and adults with a blend of 21 organic superfoods and nine key vitamins. There's no artificial ingredients, no fake dyes, nothing strange.
12:04Kristin:And what I appreciate is how transparent they are. Everything is tested for over 200 toxins, and they've earned the Clean Label Purity Award. I know, choosing a vitamin that you trust can feel overwhelming. It can feel really confusing out there on the market. but this is about supporting your kid's brain and body in a way that's realistic and it does not have to be confusing. Also, they make age-specific vitamins, which is huge because nutritional needs change as kids grow. So if you've been looking for the right multivitamin, first day is for you. First day is it. Clinically absorbable, family safe, actually effective.

13:04Deena:Y 'all know there is one thing that I tell everyone about and it is Nutrafol. I tell my friends, my family, everyone that I know is on Nutrafol and it's because of me. So my postpartum hair after my first two pregnancies was so, there's no other word to describe it other than horrific. I mean, it's just so beautiful when you're pregnant. It's like mermaid hair. And then the second you have a baby, at least for me, not only was it shedding everywhere, but it was like thin. It was dry. I just it was so sad. And so with my third baby, I decided to give it a shot. It was crazy. It was healthy. It was fuller.
13:46Deena:And so I still take it to this day. And this is what I mean, three and a half years later. So obviously, after I had my baby, I took the postpartum one. Bless. And now I just take the women's one. I take it every day and I swear by it. Like, I like things to be approximately 62 degrees to 70 degrees, okay?
15:07Deena:And if I'm sleeping, I need it to be under 70 degrees. Sleeping hot is miserable, okay? And it's apparently not even the person sleeping next to me, like Tyler, is not the problem. It's the bedding. Who knew? OK, the wrong sheets trap heat. Bull and Branch is the cool side of the pillow, but everywhere. Bull and Branch's summer bedding options are breathable, lightweight and designed to keep you cool all night long. Their sheets are 100 percent organic cotton woven specifically for airflow, not just softness. Unlike synthetic cooling technology or chemically treated fabrics, the cooling is structural.
15:45Deena:overall. It's literally how the cotton is woven. And 94 % of Bowling Branch customers say their sheets get softer with every wash. And I can attest it is true. The signature sheets, of course, are where the cooling stuff comes in. And I love them so much I can't go back. But once I upgraded with the comforter to, oh, guys, I mean, I'm jealous of my own bed. 16:30Deena:bowlinbranch.com slash biglittlefeelings, code biglittlefeelings, exclusions apply. Okay, speaking of swearing, trend one, it has nothing to do with It has nothing to do with swearing. That was just my segue. Trend number one. I think I think last episode and the one before it, I'm pretty sure we did a fuck yeah or a fuck no. Right. Because you were so amped up. That's true. I think we should do that again. What do you think? OK. You feel ready? OK. Yeah. All right. Trend number one for summer. Staying in your own town that you live in.
17:03Kristin:That's a fuck yeah for me.
17:05Deena:I knew it. Say more.
17:07Kristin:So much of me wants to go to Europe and I always have that daydream in my mind, but I am not ready to put all three of my kids on an airplane. And I don't have a village to watch my kids so I can just go to Europe alone.
17:22Deena:Right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right.
17:24Kristin:So that will be a future plan. And right now I just plan on being a tourist in my own city this summer. Hmm.
17:32Deena:I am a fuck yeah, too. And, you know, I'm usually like, you know, guys, I'm going to go I'm going to really be offline in the summer and I'm going to go spend like a month somewhere else. And then sometimes I don't, though, I don't actually make it happen. But that's my fantasy is like spending a month somewhere else at least. And this summer I am not. I feel like I'm going to hit up a neighborhood pool. You know, I'm going to put out like a sprinkler system and like let the neighbor kids have some fun. We're going to get some Costco pizza and water balloons. And like, that's our summer, babe.
18:05Deena:That's our summer plan.
18:06Kristin:I love that. And I like the mentality of going in as a tourist. Like there's so much to do in your city. And Kristen, since I'm so angry today, if I may just let it out for a moment. Yeah. One thing I'm pretty mad at the Internet about and the algorithm right now is it keeps serving like you only get 18 summers. Like kids remember the trips the most. And like they they do. That's wonderful. but it doesn't need to be huge to have the impact on them.
18:36Deena:I feel that. I feel like I felt that even more last summer. And now I'm just over it. Now I'm just like, guys, you can't do that to me. And also I feel like the memories of giggling on your couch and being with your neighbors and stuff that I didn't actually, I don't actually have those kinds of memories, but I have to imagine that those are like the really good memories as a kid. Right. And like eating watermelon and shit. I don't know what you guys with normal childhoods did, but just like they running around your neighborhood.
19:03Kristin:Your kids just want to be with you. And here's a really concrete data point. Do you remember when I went to Cabo? I took my whole family for the very first time. Me and Mike took our two small children. OK, we've got like a one and a half year old and almost three year old. We say, you know what? We are finally a little bit ready to just pull the trigger. We're going and go make a memory. We get on that airplane. My kid starts puking on that airplane. And before you know it, within 24 hours, we are in a beautiful, wonderful Cabo hospital for four straight days. And do you know what my son still reflects on?
19:40Kristin:He goes, Mommy, do you remember that really special time where you laid in bed with me and we snuggled and we got to watch iPad together and you took care of me? And I was like, oh, my God, they really they really just want to be with you. Period.
19:54Deena:We could have stayed home and been in the bed and cuddled and watched iPad.
19:58Kristin:Literally. I'm like, honey, don't you worry. I will never forget that ever. It's tattooed into my soul. OK. OK.
20:06Deena:Trend number two. This is near and dear to my heart. Hotel pool passes. Pass. Oh, so I've never tried it. This is a fuck. Yeah. For me, because I didn't know that this was a thing. But now I do. And I can't come back from it. We're like, I want to be at a hotel and I want to get chicken tenders or nachos by a pool. OK. Or like, oh, the ultimate if I didn't have children, it would be a chicken Caesar salad with a side of fries. Duh. OK. I want somebody else to be doing the cooking for my children, which is like chicken fingers and fries. I want them to make a couple little friends at the hotel pool.
20:46Deena:And then I want to pack up and I want to go home and I want to be in my own bed. And so this is like my best of both worlds and how I'm not traveling at all this summer is I'm like, whenever I get the itch, I'm just going to go to a hotel pool and get a hotel pass.
21:00Kristin:Now that you're saying this out loud, I'm intrigued. Once you described it that way, I was like, I'm going to change my answer. Actually, that sounds fantastic. So you can just go to like hotels in your area, in your area, literally talking 10 minutes away, 15 minutes
21:17Deena:away and we still get back for bedtime. You know, you just roll, you just barrel through the door and get into bedtime and somebody else has done the cooking. I'm not cleaning anything up. And it's, you know, it's like, it's like a vacation for me. Officially changing my answer. Fuck yes, I'm in. Oh God, I love when that happens. Okay. Trend number three, fancy hydration. Like everybody is into sort of the, obviously we've been doing Stanley cups, you know, and like, we're all trying to get more water and these big cups. But now I feel like it's going into what are these called? I don't even know what they're called.
21:50Deena:What are they called? Like packets? Everybody has like a different kind of packet. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And even even I would say like sodas, but it's like Olipop and it's like probiotic shit. So talk to me about fancy hydration.
22:04Kristin:Well, I've got mixed feelings. So I'm mostly like a coffee water gal. Yeah. With a sparkly water. I'm a sparkling water connoisseur, if you will. I can tell you about lots of different brands. I can tell you about the bubble sizes, the intensity. That's one of my passions. I will fuck with an electrolyte packet once in a while, but it has to be the right flavor because I'm very sensitive, especially to artificial sweeteners.
22:28Deena:Anything with the stevia in it has to get the fuck out of here. I would rather drink straight sugar out of like a glass. And to be clear, I don't want to. but like I hate I hate a fake sweetener which most of them have I love I love water I'm just gonna say this I know it's a controversial take but I love water so I don't really need to like fuck with my water does that make sense like I know that this is a problem and there's a solution for it I'm so happy for people that need the solution for it like I think water either tastes bad or maybe they're just not used to drinking it or something like that so that's why they need the packets?
23:07Deena:No, it's when you're dehydrated.
23:09Kristin:Like if you've done a really hard workout, you're out in the sun a long time. It gives you the minerals that will help you soak up like the hydration better. Like you will stay more hydrated within your cells.
23:20Deena:So also not a problem that I have. We're not we're not we're not we're not exerting that much energy. Do you know what I mean? I don't need that. But I also really do think that's true for your algorithm and timeline, Dina. But I think that I think that a majority of America or at least half the reason for these packets is because they don't like water that much and they have to like jazz it up. Wow.
23:46Kristin:Interesting. But you also mentioned adaptogen drinks and I'm kind of into that. But again, very, very picky. But it replaced my like, you know, 5 p.m. cooking dinner wine. Yeah. That's what I replaced it with.
24:00Deena:I'm into that too. I don't have like a favorite. Also, I love that you're into sparkling water. We're both very into a sparkling water. Like that is my wine fridge, you know, and I don't have a wine fridge, but if I did have a wine fridge, it would be full of like Saratoga. This is not sponsored, but please, by all means, Saratoga sparkling water, you know, the superior sparkling water.
24:25Kristin:trend number four dad summer what is that I was gonna see if you were gonna like insinuate what
24:33Deena:it is does anyone know does anyone have any ideas when I say dad summer what on earth that means
24:42Kristin:does it mean I don't have to care about my body because I'm just a dad and society doesn't care what dads look like oh fuck yeah because then I'm in okay first of all yes and we're both fuck yeah
24:53Deena:to that. I mean, I'm on that summer trend and I'm there. I'm like, you know, dads or men, they just have whatever bodies they have. And then they just like, this is not what it is, actually. But I like that you're going with this. And then they just like jump in a pool and they like bend over. Like I literally went to a hotel pool yesterday. No joke. And this guy who was like, has a bigger body the same way I have a bigger body. And this guy was just like all over, you know, and there's just like sunscreen and flapping and bending over. And he's in like a like a speedo basically and I'm just like fuck yeah dude you know you're spreading your man spreading but in a bathing suit and everywhere and I'm about that I'm doing that I'm eating chicken wings I'm spreading my legs I'm letting the belly hang over like I am having a dad summer in that way my what dad summer to me is and can I take another guess yeah please you just go to
25:48Kristin:work like normal nothing's interrupted you don't have extra child care to like worry about you just live your normal life just working
26:04Deena:nothing changes your routine or your mental health your algorithm is just like airplanes and like obscure Thailand hotels and like stock the stock market, you know, and like that's what's going through your mind is just like, you know, whatever, dude. I'm just normal. Whoa. No, but approved. Okay, tell us the truth. That was fucking hilarious. No. So dad summer is we've already started this, which is called dad camp. And so one parent, meaning dad, he disappears with the kids and I get to stay home in our home, completely alone, silence for a few hours. And during that time, I'm a dad. So I am not ordering groceries.
26:55Deena:I am not ordering the next size up in clothing. I am not doing anything or planning anything or booking anything. He takes the children out of the house. And then I'm at home relaxing, dude, relaxing.
27:09Kristin:Well, I'm a fuck. Yeah. And I actually do this with Mike already, like all year long. This is our weekends. He takes them out of the house and you relax at home. He takes them out of the house and we plan it around when the baby's going to take his long nap. So it's two hours and I just chill. I don't do the dishes. I like lay down. I was watching off campus, but I finished that. I take a rest. OK, so it's a fuck yeah for you.
27:35Deena:And you you already it's a year round. It's a year round thing.
27:38Kristin:And we switch off. And this has actually been one of the things that's like really helped our marriage, I feel like, is being able to have time where we're just like fully ourselves.
27:48Deena:We have that too. But it's usually that a person who is off leaves the house, meaning like I go and do or I'm napping. So I mean, which is great. But I'm like, we go like you go to a workout or like Tyler goes and, you know, does whatever he wants to do. But this is like like we're very rarely in our own home without the children. You know what I mean?
28:12Kristin:That's new for me. OK, number five, reading is hot again. Well, if you like reading really dense neuroscience articles, I mean, I'm in.
28:21Deena:Okay. That's I'm talking more like romantic to see fairy. Are you talking about fairy porn? Kind of. And I feel like it would be fairy porn because when you say off campus, the book, the book was is not far. It's mom porn. It's mom porn. That's right.
28:39Kristin:So it really has revived my interest in my husband. Thank you off campus. Yeah. Yeah. I did have to touch grass though and be like, I am a married woman. I am a mom of three. I am not married to a hockey player.
28:54Deena:Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if the book like elicited that as much as the show did, but I will report back because I haven't watched the show yet. I only read the book back to reading. Are we into reading? You're not really like a reading for fun kind of person right now.
29:07Kristin:I'm going to be honest. I always like see people reading and I'm like, oh, I should do more of that, like read a book for myself. And then I'm so busy. And then I get so tired by the time I put everyone down that I just don't do it.
29:21Deena:The thing is, when you say when you said at the beginning of this episode that you're kissing your husband after the kids go to bed, I think that's where you're I think that's I think it's great for you and probably a lot healthier. But like, that's when I read. So like, there's no there's no like, kissing after the kids are in bed. Like, Like, no, that's my time. Like, don't. Different activities. Don't. Yeah. Like, don't. Don't come near me. This is my time. This is my time to escape into my book.
29:50Kristin:So I've always admired that, that you read every single night. And you've read so many books. Like, someone could name any book and you're like, oh, yeah, that was a great one. I read that.
29:59Deena:It's borderline a problem. Like, I think I read one like every two days, but I love it.
30:04Kristin:Maybe one day I'll get more into it. But for right now, it's just neuroscience articles. I don't think you have to. do. I don't know. It's not like a forced thing.
30:11Deena:You know what I mean? It's like, is it enjoyable or not? That's what we're doing. I'm not going to. I love that. Okay. So it's a fuck no for you personally, but like a fuck yes for people who want to. That's right. Okay. Fuck yes for me.
30:25Kristin:Parents, I need you to do something for me. Think about how many diaper changes you've done in your lifetime. Actually, don't. The number is kind of upsetting. Listen, I have three kids. I've changed approximately 1 billion diapers. And one thing I've learned is that anything that saves me time during diaper changes is worth its weight in gold. And one of those things that I've discovered along the way is magnetic me. If you do not know about them yet, these are clothes that use magnets instead of snaps or zippers, which means dressing your baby is quick and easy and honestly kind of magical. Instead of wrestling with snaps while your baby practices their alligator death roll, you're just clicking everything into place.
31:04Kristin:You literally line the little magnets up and go they instantly connect. It is so easy. Their fabric is unbelievably soft which I love and I require because my family is very sensitive when it comes to comfort and I'm very impressed with how well it has held up because we have washed the sets that we have one million times. And when you're parent, those little moments matter. If changing clothes takes less time and less effort, that is more time for cuddles. That is more time for connection and honestly just a calmer day overall. With everything else we're juggling as parents, I appreciate anything that makes life feel simpler.
31:42Kristin:Trust me, once you try Magnetic Me, you will never want to go back to buttons, my god, or zippers. Order yours today to make changing time easier for you and baby. Plus, they make amazing gifts. Right now, new customers can get 15 % off sitewide at magneticme.com. Don't wait. Get 15 % off at magneticme.com. Here's something about me that sometimes surprises people. I genuinely love cooking. And I'm not talking about like influencer cooking where everything is perfect and the plate looks amazing. Not I spent six hours making homemade pasta cooking. I mean like real life. Three kids running around screaming while I'm cooking.
32:24Kristin:Someone needs a snack. Someone is crying while I'm cooking. What can I make in 30 minutes cooking? I cook pretty much every single day. And because I cook so often, I become very opinionated about kitchen stuff. And this is why I love Our Place. Their cookware is incredible. Everything from Our Place feels very thoughtfully designed, from the functionality to the colors to the little details that make cooking feel less chaotic. And the pans perform beautifully. The pots are amazing. I genuinely reach for them every single day. Okay, but here's one of the most important parts. It's not just about looks.
33:02Kristin:It's not just about function. Yes, that's all amazing. The cookware is made without PFAS, okay? Chemicals that leach into your food. In fact, it's third-party tested to meet global safety standards. Our place cookware has been made without forever chemicals since day one. For me, this is one of the most important things. Because sure, I like stuff that looks good, but more importantly, I want my family to stay healthy. We don't need forever chemicals in our blood and our bodies. If you're trying to cook more at home, simplify your kitchen, or just upgrade the tools that you use every single day, I cannot recommend them enough.

A few months ago, if you had told me that I would become the person talking about body oil this much, I would have laughed. And yet here we are. Because Osea's Andaria Algae Body Oil has completely become one of my favorite things in my routine. For me, it started with feeling like my skin just looked kind of tired and dry and dull.
34:22Kristin:Then I started using their Andari Algae Body Oil, and the first thing I noticed was the texture. It's rich, but somehow really lightweight at the same time, and it absorbs really quickly, leaving your skin very silky and hydrated without out that greasy feeling, which I personally cannot stand. I can't do that. And I've been using consistently for about two months, and I'm just so genuinely impressed. Like you can see and feel the difference. There's a reason Osea's Andaria Algae Body Oil is an Allure award-winning bestseller. It's clinically shown to instantly improve the look of skin elasticity and deeply moisturize, and my skin just looks healthier and more hydrated, more glowy.
35:04Kristin:I also love that Osea has been committed to clean, clinically tested skincare from the sea for 30 years. Like I've known about them for years. 35:37Deena:trend number six camp chairs everywhere camping chairs what is a camping chair oh my god dina tell me your kids are not yet into like hardcore sports life what do you and mike do like they do sometimes baseball and stuff like we have camping chairs fucking everywhere like they go to the sports game they go in our neighborhood they're going out into the street they're going in our driveway. Like we have fourteen hundred different types of camping chairs at the beach. Anyone,
36:08Kristin:anyone who has seen me out in public at one of my kids events could quickly answer this like, oh, yeah, she's the mom who sits on the floor. I literally will bring nothing half the time because I forget. Sometimes I'll bring a blanket. I don't want to carry another chair. I don't want to carry that. I've been carrying so many children, so many things. I'm not bringing a chair. I'm sitting on the grass. I'm sitting on a towel. Wow.
36:31Deena:OK, so you're a fuck no on camp chairs and I'm a fuck yes. Like I even I have gone so far and I don't think I was until until this year, actually, until we moved close to the beach and that was the originator. And then B, my kids got really into sports, like very, very into sports where it's like six days a week. We're talking that now I have a different idyllic. Is that the right word that I'm looking for? Like a like a perfect for the scenario camp chair for everywhere I go. Like I have the best beach chairs. I have the best like on the bleacher kind of chairs because those are different than if you don't have bleachers and then you have a different kind of chair.
37:10Deena:I have like the aerodynamic ones, you know, where they float because my autistic husband and that's not a joke. He's literally autistic. My autistic husband doesn't like his his feet touching the sand. So in order to get him to go to the beach with us, I need to have one of those like 360 chairs, you know, keeps his feet off the sand. Like I'm so deep on chairs that this is fascinating. You really are.
37:31Kristin:And the thought of a bleacher is just miserable. So I wouldn't even be on the bleacher. I would be far away from the pack.
37:38Deena:Girlfriend, I have heated bleacher padded chairs that go on top of the bleacher. Hello? What? That's what I'm talking about. You can't sit on a bleacher. What am I, 18 years old? What am I, on cocaine? no I need to have like a comfortable cushy and then once my children sit in it they're like well now I have to have a cushy heated chair for the bleacher you know well I'm gonna need some links
38:01Kristin:for these what are you an influencer get out of here I'll send them all to you you're not gonna get them but I'll still send them to you I'm not going to okay trend number eight no that's a fuck yes are you kidding me I love saying no you really started the like saying
38:20Deena:no boundaries protect your your your peace movement back when we were like teenagers
38:26Kristin:you know yeah you did this before it was trendy yeah it's innate to me yeah do you want to hang out no I'm just kidding sometimes I do want to hang out but I am very specific so a lot of times the answer is kindly respectfully like I love you no let's figure out something different no
38:46Deena:But I think you're spot on that if you don't want to hang out, especially especially in the past, like that is how you would say it would just be like, hey, do you want to hang out? No. And it was great. Like, I remember that version of you and I loved it, you know, and they didn't think I was autistic this whole time. Nobody thought you were autistic. They just thought you were rude, to be honest. You know, like we'd be at a dinner party and it would be the middle of the dinner and you would just get up and you would walk out the door without like saying goodbye, without being like, I think maybe you would be like, I have to leave now or something like that.
39:24Deena:If you're like, how rude. I'm like, I fucking love this guy. So like this is, you know, she's like, I want to do that, but I'm too much of a pleaser to do it. You've been doing it since day one.
39:33Kristin:French exits. They're in. Fuck yeah. Fuck yeah. Fuck yeah. but honestly you should say no to protect your peace if you need to a lot of us are so uncomfortable I just went through a whole thing with my sister yesterday where she was like I don't know how to say no to my friend and I feel bad and like I know I'm gonna feel terrible though if we do this like I'm gonna be so burnt out and like you gotta say no sometimes and you can say in a kind way
39:58Deena:oh yes girl okay we're gonna get to the next one that you made me add creatine fuck yeah okay tell me i'm hopping on the train although you have to be careful because there
40:10Kristin:are different types of creatine and some of them your body will absorb some will not work so well
40:15Deena:can you send me a link of the right creatine because i i don't have capacity for that
40:20Kristin:i can't i've done the research i got you okay that i think we're gonna leave it at that because
40:25Deena:i'm like on the one hand let's do it and i see everybody and i see all the research and then on the other hand, I was like, I jumped so hard at like the protein and then the next thing. And so now I'm just like, now it's fiber and like magnesium. And I'm a little burnt out on it. I'm a little burnt out. But if you send me a link, like, fine, I'll put it in my, I'll put in my fucking smoothie. Why not? Why not?
40:47Kristin:You also don't need to guess what? Bodies are really smart. Okay. Your body's going to be fine.
40:53Deena:I feel like the social media is telling me I have to or else, You know what I mean? Like, I really do feel that way.
41:01Kristin:It wants you to feel that way.
41:02Deena:But it's not true?
41:04Kristin:No. You'll be fine.
41:05Deena:I think I'm going to skip creatine. Fuck it. Good. I don't really. I don't need another thing. I'm fine. I mean, I'm not fine, but like I'm going to pass. I'm going to do fuck no on creatine for now. You know, maybe I'll circle back. Okay. We're going to do a quick rapid fire. Ooh. Fuck yeah or fuck no quickly. You ready? Okay. Okay. Hold on. I got to take a deep breath and reground. Oh, right. This is like a little surprising, by the way. Right. You got to go with your instinct on this. Oh, OK. OK, go. Sorry, I had to get some coffee here. OK, wagons. What's a wagon? Sorry. It's probably not that clear.
41:46Deena:Probably not that clear. Push my kid? But yeah, like, do you have a wagon that carries all the shit for your kids and stuff?
41:53Kristin:Kristen, God, I want a wagon. I want a wagon too. They are so expensive. I cannot justify getting the damn wagon.
42:01Deena:Dina, we have three kids and now my oldest is nine, but I've been wanting a fucking wagon since she was like two. Why didn't I just get a wagon and I would still have it?
42:10Kristin:Why didn't we get the wagon and just maximize the experience? You can put the chairs in the wagon. That's the only way.
42:19Deena:Okay, so we're both getting wagons.
42:21Kristin:Imagine me, imagine me pushing all my kids and my dog Mokey because there's room in the wagon. Yeah. Through the airport. Yeah. I gate check that motherfucker. I get it back. Like, how good would life be?
42:34Deena:You need a wagon, like respectfully.
42:35Kristin:I should have done it. And your kids are young enough. You're going to use it for a long time. Okay. I'll think about it. Maybe I can sell a stroller and get a wagon. No, we're going to get a wagon. Pickleball. No, no.
42:45Deena:Okay. I'm a, I'm a, I'm a yes within reason. Like, let's, we don't need to freak out over it, but like, I'll do it. you know just protect your knees go on i should probably not do it then okay i'm gonna decline great pick a ball is off the list with creatine i love this for me okay let's do something else yeah
43:07Deena:by the way besties this is what it's like to be like on vacation or anywhere with us where we'll start to get an idea or somebody will suggest that thing and then suddenly one of us will think for five seconds and be like, wait, no, no, let's do something else. Should we get in our robes and order steak in our room? We're like, steak sounds great. That's how we, you know, do you
43:31Kristin:like French fries?
43:32Deena:I really want some French fries. This is how it just goes. I like beds. Okay. All right. Bucket hats. No, no.
43:40Kristin:That chapter is done. No. Okay. That's like, I was a kid.
43:44Deena:And like, I know that like Wes from Summer House can do it and the youths can do it. I can't do it. And I'm not going to. I do love it for other people who want to do it. Like, that's beautiful for you. I don't think we need to justify it. I don't think we need to give that to people. I'm going to say no. I'm just going to say no. I'm going to say no. No, I don't. I'm not even going to say like, if you need to. And it's no, no on bucket hats for me. That's wow. She's doing it. I'm going to say no for everybody. Jelly sandals. No, no. I the feeling of it like I this is the one where I actually do like to see them on other people like I actually do think they're cute I couldn't physically put them on my feet yeah it's like the
44:24Kristin:texture experience for me and then it's also the safety issue I'm sorry they don't have good soles on the bottom I don't want people getting hurt for me it's my plantar fasciitis I can't
44:38Deena:I'm too old period um no arch support move on yeah unless it's a hoka like I have my daytime hokas and my workout hokas and then I have my going out hokas and that's it you know she's got her beach hokas that's it okay linen outfits like linen everything no no it's a no from me and I wish I could though I wish I could it looks really good on other people
45:05Kristin:It does look good. But if you get an oil stain on that, like good luck getting that out.
45:09Deena:There's so many reasons it can't be for me beyond just oil stains. Like I just I'm not I could never be that person, even if I were young. I not for me. Costco beach towels. What is that? Like a giant, just a giant beach towel.
45:25Kristin:It's a pass. I'm not spending money on extra things. And you know what I use at the beach or I use at a park? I use an old sheet. It folds up really well.
45:35Deena:Dina, I'm talking about a Costco. How could you get cheaper than Costco? But you did. Oh, God. Speakers at the beach or the pool.
45:46Kristin:No, because as much as I like to do what I like to do, I think that's rude.
45:52Deena:If this is one of my like if there were a top five horror list, just horror crimes against humanity and my soul, this would be one of them. Like when somebody breaks out a speaker at a beach or at a pool, especially at a pool where there is other music also happening at the pool music. That's right. Oh God, no. It is unfathomable to me that somebody thinks that everyone wants to listen to only your exact type of music. Like that is astounding to me. astounding. I agree with you. Outlawed. White toenail polish.
46:33Kristin:Well, you know, I'm not a nail polish girly because I just don't like the experience of it. I don't like the smell. I don't like how it feels. I don't like how I want to peel them off right after I put it on. So there's a lot of problems. So I'm a pass. But for other people, I do enjoy the white color.
46:50Deena:Do you think that if we would have gone to any mental health professional and just just presented this list to them and then listen to you talk through them anyone could have caught that you were autistic
47:02Kristin:in 35 years no because they they were thinking of autism very differently than just you know
47:10Deena:10 years ago it was very different the nail polish off of my toenails okay yeah I mean yes so about that pass I hate them I think they're so ugly yeah I'm sorry I know you guys like them Yeah. Yeah. No, my children. I can't get them off. I give up. And also it's a pass. OK.
47:32Kristin:La Boo Boo's. No waste of money. Yeah. I'm I'm hard if your kids really want them, then that makes it really tough.
47:41Deena:Remember Furbies? Like I'm I'm I'm one of these bitches, kind of like the creatine, kind of like I'm a bandwagon girly. I'm just going to jump on whatever the fuck now. Squishies. I'm going to go to the goddamn market thing. That's like a black marketplace. I'm going to get some squishies that are$30 overpriced. I don't even need a squishy. I just I am. It's because you have ADHD.
48:02Kristin:You get a dopamine high off of this stuff.
48:04Deena:Yep. It's like, oh, this is obscure and nobody else has it. And I have to go find. Yeah. Just that's right. Yep. So I'm in. OK, the last five, we're going to do a literal yes, no. And then we're OK. OK. Protein iced coffee. No, no. Ice cream for dinner. No. I mean, yes. uh it depends i mean you gotta have a bedtime snack you gotta have a bedtime snack but like yep whatever i'm doing it matching family swimsuits no no too much effort oh i already know the answer to this cowboy boots actually i don't know the answer to this cowboy boots with shorts yes love a rodeo wow no for me backyard movie i'm going i'm going sorry sorry i'm going to a rodeo this weekend okay move on dina it's the summer and so i've seen your calendar because it comes on my calendar.
48:49Deena:And I would like to do a whole episode on what's happening because it's it's taken over your calendar, my friends. Like I have to pause work in order to be an all-stars coach and you have to pause work in order to go to the rodeo. The last one is, well, actually two backyard movie nights. No, no for me. And I wish I could, though. I wish I could. And the last one is letting kids stay up late this summer.
49:15Kristin:It's happening whether I like it or not. Correct.
49:18Deena:Correctamundo. I'm with you. Last night, we literally were out so late. We're at just the neighborhood. It's just the neighbors. And we have a really good time. And also, you know, I kind of miss the days of just being like, oh, 715. Like, we got to stick to routine, you know.
49:34Kristin:But I'm usually someone who stays on track so well. And literally, I've lost this battle. There is no way. I've tried so hard to get everyone back on our old bedtime schedule. We're not even going anywhere, by the way. We're just like at home and it's still like so off track.
49:50Deena:It's summertime, baby. Like, we're not going to fight it anymore. Well, that is our summer trend episode. That is it. We did it. I want to hear from the besties.
50:01Kristin:Please weigh in on literally every category we just went through.
50:05Deena:And the most important ones, which is what? La boo-boos, boundaries, saying no, letting kids stay up late. And kissing. Yeah. And also cowboy boots with shorts. Because I don't want to do that. Let's not like that's not like a worldwide trend. Right. I can't do that. I can't do that. To be fair, I don't have cowboy boots. I was the only one in workout sneakers. You would if your body could handle it, though. Probably true. You would do it. You would do it. Yeah. OK, besties, this is your reminder, though. All jokes aside, do summer the way you're doing it. Lower the pressure or don't go have a vacation.
50:44Deena:Stay home. Do whatever it is that's going to make you feel good, because honestly, that's the most important thing. Your kids just want to have you have a good time. Also, by the way, when I say that you can go work, you can go do other stuff. So, Dina, what do you have for the besties this summer? I say just do you. Do summer the way you want to do summer. And I feel like nine years in, I'm finally I'm finally kind of doing that. It was like, oh, my God, I have to have the best summer camps. And then it was like, I have to have the best vacations. And now I'm just kind of like with three kids.
51:17Deena:You can't actually please everybody. But like if we all just just chill, I'm talking to myself. I just chill the fuck out and just kind of be more free free balling. It's going to be a better summer. That's my thing. OK, besties, we will see you next week. and maybe it will not be a summer-themed episode. Do you think? Do you think what's coming? Oh, I know what we're recording next week. Actually, I just got chills. Besties, we have some really, really, really good episodes with some really good guests coming. I just got some. Oh, yeah. Remember? Remember who we're recording with next week? Oh, God.
51:49Deena:Oh, my God. This is exciting. Excited, Besties. This is huge. Okay, we'll see you next week, Besties. Bye. Bye.
