In short

The episode is about OpenAI’s newly released ChatGPT Images 2.5 and how it can drive revenue for digital art and marketing workflows.

Guests

Matt Rogers (Las Culturistas co-host) and Bowen Yang (Lost Culture Results co-host).

Key claims

Images 2.5 improves image quality, realism, and editing (including sharpening and changing old photos while keeping them true to the original). It reduces image-generation latency by 50%. They say it enables smoother “frame-by-frame” outputs, effectively making video-like motion.

Notable examples

cube-spinning demo (glitchy Image 2 vs smooth 2.5), “Sketch” feature turning rough drawings into detailed images (garden top-down to hyper-realistic view; crab-to-chair joke), and “templates” for applying logos/graphics to products like t-shirts, mugs, hoodies, hats, and keychains. They discuss consistent AI likeness for podcast thumbnails and faster ad creative production.

0:00This is Matt Rogers from Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. This is Bowen Yang from Lost Culture Results with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. You know when people try a new food and suddenly it's like, okay, hold on, I got a new favorite food. That's the reaction a lot of people are having when they first try Kewpie mayo. Yeah, it's the one with the red cap and the little baby on the bottle. You've probably seen it at the grocery store. And this mayo is different. Most mayonnaise uses whole eggs. Kewpie only uses egg yolks, which gives it this rich umami flavor. It's smoother, deeper, almost buttery.

0:31Once people try it, they start putting it on everything. Egg sandwiches, fries, burgers. Chefs use it. Restaurants use it. People who really care about flavor use it. Put it on just about anything. Then you'll understand. QB, the original Japanese mayonnaise. You know what? It sucks to be bored. But when I get on my phone and play real casino games on spinquest.com, the time flies by. That two-hour wait at the DMV seems like 10 minutes. Play your favorite slots. Live blackjack, live preps with a live dealer. New players,$30 coin packs are on sale for$10. Play SpinQuest.com and you'll never be bored again.

Just yesterday, ChatGPT released Images 2.5. And they already have a pretty impressive image generator. I would say both me and Jayden use this one as our main image generator if we need to make an image. But they just improved it even more. They have something called Sketch. Lots of really exciting things to talk about today and how you could actually use this to make money. Before we get into that, Jayden, why don't you tell them about our school community?

1:46Yeah, every week we have completely revamped our entire school community. And every week we've been putting videos out for a couple of years. But now we have created an entirely new experience with way more content and we have guides for every single lesson that we teach. We basically have it set up so now you can go in and pick a different path that you're going to take, a different side hustle, whether that's growing and scaling the business you have, whether that's building a SaaS for the first time, whether that's becoming an AI consultant, whether that's doing automated AI music or podcasting.

2:21podcasting. So there's a bunch of different things we've talked about in the past, but we reorganized everything and rebuilt it and are relaunching the school community's courses with updated stuff, updated information. So you're getting the freshest stuff there. And we truly believe this is something that will help you grow and scale your business now. So we're really excited about this. We have over a thousand members in the school community. We've grown a ton over the last couple months up from about 300 to now over 1300 members. So yeah, we'd love for you to join the school community. It's$19 a month, which is an incredible value for what you're getting over 100 videos that Jamie and I have recorded on growing and scaling a business using AI tools.

3:03So if you're not already a member of the school community, we would love to have you join and hopefully we will see you there. But talking about what's going on with OpenAI, I love the image models out of OpenAI for basically all of the businesses I run. I'm using it. It's interesting that, you know, which Claude, which was kind of my like go-to AI model for so long, didn't have image generation inside of it. And I felt like OpenAI just crushed it with their last model. But I've been really impressed. They keep coming up with better models. And this new model, this new 2.5, has a bunch of really cool features to it.

3:38They specifically have like a whole feature set where you can improve like old photos, you can sharpen old photos, and you can change them. But they're very true to the old what the old photo looked like so like if you have an old picture of yourself you can change what you look like or what you were what you're doing and it sharpens it really well which if you've used like the I don't know if you've done this with Canva Canva has a quote unquote AI upscaler and is flaming garbage so yeah I would highly recommend using OpenAI for this but the new model is pretty cool they have they have a bunch of demos that are pretty interesting where they're basically showing what the new image 2.5 does with the same prompt versus what their image 2 did.

4:22And honestly, I thought their image 2 was great, but 2.5 really takes it to the next level with a lot more, just the images are higher quality. The scenes look better. Everything looks a little bit more realistic. So it's kind of hard because with art, you know, there's a fine the line. But I, yeah, I think so far they've done a great job with making some of the updates on this overall. They had like one demo where they were showing image GPT image two versus GPT image five. And they said like, you know, generate high quality, 150 high quality frames of a cube spinning. And they showed like the image two and it's kind of like glitchy when it bounces around and they're showing 2.5 and it looks super smooth.

5:07So just being able to like really understand, I mean, that's just showing that from one image to the next, doing tiny frames. It's basically they've created a video machine with their image machine because of how smooth all of this is going. But have you, well, I don't know, what are you thinking about this, Jamie? How are you gonna be using this in your businesses? Well, I mean, one of the main major things that we use it for here on the podcast is actually thumbnails for YouTube and for any place there would need to be an image thumbnail. And of course, Jaden and I in the past in these old thumbnails don't really look that much like us.

5:45It kind of has our likeness, but they're kind of these own AI characters that it's generated. But now with the new model, similar to how it showed the cube spinning, it has a full understanding of our likeness and can actually keep it that way. So then our character looks consistent across thumbnails. This could be also really useful if you are doing graphic design or advertising and you need to come up with a bunch of different creatives for an ad. Keeping a consistent character or consistent look of the same person across would be very important. But I think it's really cool. A lot of the demo images are showing things that really just look creative and actually well-designed.

6:34There's been a lot of memes going around making fun of the event posters made with AI. And there's just sketches all over it. And it's very identifiable. Yes. Looks kind of like garbage. But these look really good. So I think they're kind of stepping it up a level. and I'm really excited to get using it. But, Jaden, what are you most excited about? Okay, well, one of the features that I love, which, by the way, if you're watching, if you're listening on Spotify, which I know is like a majority of our listeners, this is all video as well, too. So if we're ever talking about something, we're usually showing a demo on the screen.

7:07So you can go check it out if you're not already. But this one in particular was pretty impressive. It's called Sketch, and it's a new, completely new feature they added in there where you basically can sketch something. So they have it like they're sketching, And it's like pretty crude sketches of just like, you know, like a rough draft of your garden. And you're like, I want like a pool here. And it's like, I mean, it's like it's a back of a napkin sketch kind of thing. And then you say turn this into the actual image of X, Y, Z. I love this because I feel like you can get so much detail. It has like some funny ones where it's like someone drew a sketch of like a crab and it actually turned it.

7:47And then they're like turn this into like an actual chair. And so it turned into a crab chair, which was kind of fun and cool. You feel like you actually made something. But I honestly think their garden example was the underrated one where they have a sketch of a garden that they were that they drew and they had it turn it into an actual, you know, it's like a very kind of, you know, just basic layout of what their garden is. And they're like, turn this into an actual image of my garden. And it has like a top down view of what the garden could look like. And then it has a hyper realistic image of what your garden and your backyard could actually look like.

8:21So anyways, I love this concept. And you have to use the at symbol and then say at sketch inside of chat. And then this thing pops up and you're able to actually go and use that. Yeah, I think that's sweet. We actually are having landscaping woes at our house and don't know how to really figure it out. But to be able to, you know, take a picture and sketch in like what we're picturing and then have it generated, I think would be super helpful. You know, up to this point, we've just been using words like make this look, you know, modernize this or, you know, try to describe with words. But to be able to sketch it, I think is a really cool option as well.

8:58They're doing something else, which is really interesting, called templates, which, by the way, spoiler alert, it feels like I don't know what you think, Jamie, but I feel like they're getting into competing with Canva territory where at some point and I think I was talking about this on a podcast recently. I'm like, I don't know why opening. I just doesn't go all in and just compete with Canva because they they have the best model for generating stuff. And Canva has so many things. And I love Canva for so long. but it feels like, I mean, they're going to get replaced soon. With this new thing called templates, you can choose something like a logo template and it gives you a whole bunch of ideas and examples of styles and you explain what you want.

9:39And then it can make it. It also has one where it gives you an example of different types of things that you want to generate graphics on. So you're like, I want to generate this graphic on a long sleeve, on a zipped hoodie, on a mug, on a t-shirt, on a hat, on a keychain. Anyways, so they have like all of these different templates. You pick one of those templates and it can put your logo or your graphic onto those objects. And this is really similar to if you've done like print-on-demand businesses in the past. You know, they have those kind of things where you upload your logo and they show you what it would look like on a t-shirt.

10:16This is obviously going to be way better because it's actually generated an entire image with that like custom embedded into it. But so I think this is, I mean, for people doing print on demand, this is going to be a massive new upgrade. But honestly, for anything when it comes to like logo generation, so many of these things that we do come from templates. And so I think Canva is going to get a run for their money on this particular feature. Oh, yeah. I mean, there's tons of potential there. If you could have a plug in with Shopify and then with Etsy and then with something like Printful and you could do it all within ChatGPT, that would be awesome.

10:50You could basically get your whole store running just from ChatGPT images. So that's super cool. I think one thing we haven't even talked about yet that's a huge improvement is the latency. There's a 50 % improvement in speed now with image generation, which is actually a huge improvement. And I already felt like they were getting pretty snappy with their image generation. But to be 50 % faster, that's going to help so much with workflow, you know, being able to come up with different creatives. We've talked a lot before about if you're doing ads on Facebook, you need to have custom creatives for each target person, audience you're going for.

11:31So to be able to spin up a lot of these quickly is actually a huge value. So that's another exciting announcement. Yeah. And I wanted to say they actually technically have two new image models inside of their API. so if you're inside of chat gpt i think when you just ask it to generate something it's going to pick what image model to use that it thinks would best help you but if you have the api meaning this is embedded into software so for something like my ai box.ai where i let you use you know 90 different ai models and test them all beside each other the way that we'll be able to show this is that there'll be one called image 2.5 flare so it's basically all the same improvements for quality and editing and speed that one has the 50 percent lower latency and it's probably going to be the default for most people doing stuff.

12:14So it's, you know, it's a big upgrade from the last model. But then they have another one called GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. And this is, they say it's, quote, built for premium visual workflows that benefit from tighter controls across edits, use it for creative and editing workflows, like production ready campaign creative or polished product imagery. So basically what they're saying is, you know, Image 2.5 Flare is going to be great for everything. And it's a big improvement from the last model. But if you want it to be really, really good and really, really perfect, you're going to want to use something like image 2.5 sunburst.

12:50And it's just going to be, you know, like I think probably for if you're going to have a big banner on the homepage of your website, this is going to be the one that you're going to want to use. So really excited about all of these updates. I think there's a hundred ways to use these in every business. We'll keep you guys updated on how we're rolling this out inside of our own companies.
