In short

Meta Muse AI, a desktop “AI co-worker” that can control your computer and automate tasks, marketed as a way to save money (e.g., negotiating bills) but also used for coding and productivity.

Guests/backgrounds

Jaden (main experimenter; used Muse for a week; compares it to Claude and ChatGPT Work/Codex-style tools). Jamie (co-host; mentions a weekly school community bonus episode).

Key claims

Muse is free (est. ~$60/month value via bundled compute/tokens/VM). It’s less “creepy” than expected because it doesn’t seem to rely on old Facebook profile data; it connects via Facebook account. It outperforms Claude for getting tasks done quickly.

Notable examples

Muse completed a project Claude refused; it can negotiate lower insurance rates (Geico/State Farm), call companies, and negotiate on Facebook Marketplace; it can build PDFs/PowerPoints/spreadsheets and even handle coding tasks (including tool-building and potentially accepting API-key-in-chat workflows).

0:00The most effective people at work aren't working harder than everyone else. They're working smarter inside better systems. Superhuman Go, from the makers of Grammarly, is the AI chat that works inside every tool you already use. Always ready and already aware of what you're working on. It's a teammate whose only job is to help you be better at yours. With Go working with you, you can show off what you do best. See what Superhuman Go can do at superhuman.com. That's superhuman.com. Welcome back to the podcast. Today we are talking about Meta Muse AI. Now, this announcement, I really, I kind of overlooked, didn't really care.

0:39I'm not that interested in Meta's AI products up to this point. However, Jaden informs me that I have grossly underestimated their product and their new AI agent that they have released. They have a desktop version and it acts very much like a co-work would. There's lots of really cool things about it. And apparently it's very powerful. So Jaden has experimented and actually used this over the past week, and he has an inside scoop as to why maybe you should consider it. I personally just swiped right past the ads and didn't even pay attention to it. So if you were like me, you're going to want to listen to what Jaden has to say.

1:17But before you do, Jaden, why don't you tell them about our school community? Yeah, every week, Jamie and I post a bonus piece of content. And actually, this week we posted an entire episode about how to use Muse and some of the use cases that I've used Muse for. There's an insane use. Okay, like I promise this isn't clickbait just to get you to sign up for the school community, but you definitely should because it's amazing and it's only$19 a month. But I have an amazing use case I use Muse for and I do not feel like I can share it publicly, but it's in the school community. It's epic. And if, by the way, if you're listening to this, you're a member of the school community, go check out this use case because it was amazing.

1:50And if you haven't joined it already, there's 1300 members in the school community. We show you the inside scoop on how we're growing our businesses. Sometimes we can't show you the metrics and the numbers and stuff publicly. So it's all there. We show you how to grow and scale your business, whatever that is, your side hustle, whatever that is with AI tools. And yeah, we'd love for you to go check it out. Our goal is for you to be making$10 ,000 a month from an AI side hustle or business. That's kind of like the premise of our goal. So you can go check out the school community to figure out how to do that.

2:20Okay, so Muse, I think is absolutely an amazing tool. I wouldn't sleep on it. If you don't know, it's basically like ChatGPT work or Claude Cowork, where it can control your computer screen. It can do everything for you. It does a lot more. And I think that there's a couple, I guess, to explain exactly how it works and exactly what it does. It is very similar to OpenClaw. If everyone remembers like the OpenClaw craze, it's basically OpenClaw, but it's hosted. And the best part about it is that it is completely free. And from the estimates that I've seen, because they give you like a virtual private server that it's running on, it gives you like compute, it gives you download, it gives you free tokens.

2:57people are saying they're giving away about$60 a month to anyone that signs up for this thing and it's completely free it is amazing and it works really well up until this point I've been zero percent impressed with any meta AI tools llama just isn't my thing meta AI was super bad and cringy and maybe this thing will like get outdated I don't know how fast they're gonna update it but right now I think it's basically top tier if I was to rank all of the different AI tools right now it would be number one chat GPT work number two metas muse and number three claude co-work so i've been the biggest claude fan for the last six months and i really think it's it is in third place i know people will be mad at me for saying that but i yeah that really does that's a crazy turn of events because for the past probably at least six months both you and i have been claude claude claude for everything you know and at one time they were you know it's still honestly it's great ai still and i still use it primarily but the fact that there's other competitors now that are doing equally as good if not better i think is really exciting did it say anything from your research is it using the entire context of everything meta knows about you as well no no it seems like it's its own fresh kind of thing i mean maybe there's like a way where no it's not it's it's kind of its own like it's its own thing you connect it i think through your Facebook account.

4:19So there's probably ways like they could get data, but there's probably like data sharing rules. I'm not really sure. Like when I talk to it, it isn't like based off of your Facebook profile from 2012, you should do it. It doesn't do that. So it's less creepy. But the thing that I found to be the most useful is if you download the desktop app, I think right now it's only on Mac and they just released it like three days ago. But if you download the desktop app, it can control your computer. You give it permissions or whatever. and I've found it to be amazing for building and doing things, reorganizing things on my computer, getting projects done.

4:53I recently had an experience, which I talked about on the school community, where I wanted it to do a specific project. Well, I actually wanted Claude to do a specific project for me and Claude kept giving me a super hard time. It kept saying no, like I can't do it for all of these really dumb reasons. And finally, I just got so frustrated with Claude that I went to Muse and I was like, hey, can you do this for me? Gave it the exact same prompt and the same files. And it's like, sure thing, we'll get it done quick. And in like two minutes, it did the whole thing for me. And I could just move on with my life.

5:19So if you're ever sick of Claude babysitting you and telling you you can't do things, I guess this doesn't happen to everyone. But I swear it happens to me all the time. Try Muse. Muse will just get it done. There's actually a tweet that I saw that went to this effect. And I'm not saying this is like a good indication for Claude, unless you're like a business owner actually trying to get stuff done in your business, because it feels like Claude gets mad about this kind of stuff. But the tweet basically was some version of like, I asked Claude to update my Vercel account for my website. And it said, under no circumstances, paste your API key in here.

5:51And I asked Chattapay and it said the same thing. And I asked Muse and Muse is like, paste your API key in the chat. I'll get it done like ASAP for you. And actually, to be fair, that's kind of how it used to work. I used to do that with Lovable all the time. I know people are cringing, but when I was first learning how to Vibe code, I just paste my API key straight into the chat. Muse is at that point. And I know that to a lot of people, that probably sounds like a security nightmare and you shouldn't paste your API keys in the chat. Yes. But the fact that it can do that means it also can do anything else you need to without like getting mad at you.

6:17So, yeah, big, big two thumbs up on on Muse from me. Yeah. So I'm curious, looking at their landing page, it doesn't really say much about coding. It says you can connect your apps like email calendar. And then if a task needs a tool that doesn't exist, it will build one for you. but do you know are people using this for coding and projects like out of a desktop folder just like you would with chat or sorry open ai codex or cloud co-work yeah so it's it's interesting because it feels like their target audience is different than a lot of the other players it's basically it feels like it's a tool for like everyone and for normal people but it is really good at coding and it is really good at like everyday tasks it's really good at building PDFs and PowerPoints and spreadsheets.

7:05And like, it can do it's a top tier frontier model. They've spent billions of dollars on but it's Yeah, it's I think in the marketing, they just kind of send it and say like, Hey, this is the most of the marketing I've seen around Muse, by the way, is some variation of use it to save you money. It's like, get so they added calling into it. So it can make phone calls for you. So it's like call my insurance company and negotiate a lower rate. And there's all these people that are like, I had Muse go and negotiate a lower rate on my Geico, or I switch from Geico to State Farm and whatever. I think it can go to, it has an integration where it can go to like Facebook Marketplace and it can negotiate with people on Facebook Marketplace for lower prices on stuff.

7:42Nice, that's cool. That's the Facebook integration, yeah, that no one else will do. So yeah, I think at the end of the day, it's kind of marketed as a tool to save you money. That's where I see use cases, but it can do literally anything else you need. So yeah, go get it to save you some money, negotiate all of your bills down, but also it can just get anything that you're using ChatGPT or Claude to do before. Yeah, that's actually a good thought. And something I haven't thought of yet is if it's connected to meta, could it theoretically do a lot of the cold outreach stuff that was blocked by Claude as far as DMing people or, you know, reaching out on marketplace?

8:18I'm wondering what spam filters they have and things like that, because I'm sure they don't want to dilute their own platform, you know? Totally. Yeah, they're going to have to figure something out with that. I will say their app, one reason why a lot of people are talking about it is because it's apparently outpacing ChatGPT at the same level, which at first I thought was an unfair comparison because I'm like, yeah, people had to discover ChatGPT and figure it out. But actually, if you'll remember, the ChatGPT app didn't come out for like months later, by which point ChatGPT was already really popular and everyone was talking about it.

8:47So it probably is a more fair comparison, but apparently Muse got about 1.8 million iOS downloads in the US and Canada in the first 12 days, ChatGPT got 1.3 million. In that same window, their US mobile daily active users is 640 ,000, which is about 2x ChatGPT's 231 ,000 at the same point. Global installs are 2.8 million. It's now number one on the US app store. Over 95 % of their users are also Facebook users and 63 % are on Instagram. So I think Meta is really leveraging Facebook and Instagram. I mean, most of the internet is on Facebook anyways, or Instagram. So that's also probably not shocking, but I'm sure they can use that to leverage it to grow.

9:27Did you said you saw ads for it? Where did you see ads for it? On Facebook. Yeah. Yeah. From Facebook itself? Because I didn't, I haven't seen those. So like they're making their own. Yeah. It was like a muse ad on Facebook that I saw when I was like scrolling. So that's cool. And I think they're basically copying the exact same playbook they did with threads, which is like the X clone or whatever, which I think has generally a lot of users, but I don't think it's as popular as X or has as many people. I never get very much traction on threads when I post over there. So I kind of stopped. But I think it's the same playbook where they're leveraging their other platforms to grow it.

10:00The only exception is, well, maybe some people want to listen to the show love threads. And so I'm just I've it's never really been my place. I don't get like a lot of action traction on threads. So I don't post same with X. I don't really post on X. I do post a lot on LinkedIn because that seems to do well for me. But compared to those Muse is a genuinely very useful tool. They're giving up$60 a month in usage. So like very valuable tool, it can get anything done for you and it can save you literal money. So at the end of the day, as someone who has never been a big fan of anything, Facebook, I don't even have Instagram on my phone because I just don't want to get sucked into the AI slop algorithm.

10:35I'll download it to like look at a reel or to do something or post on it and I'll delete it after because I just added this funny one on my phone. Nice. So as someone that generally doesn't like anything related to meta, I will say I am a fan of Muse and I would recommend it. It's pretty good. Cool. Well, hey, thanks for listening. If you got any value out of this episode, we'd love if you gave us a rating or review wherever you're listening. We're trying to get to 200 reviews. So if you could help us out, that'd be awesome.
