In short

The episode argues that AI-driven digital product ventures often “crash” because creators focus on making the product (often with AI) but ignore distribution, usefulness, and consistent audience-building.

Guest backgrounds

Jamie (co-host; runs/teaches in the AI Hustle School community; marketing-oriented) and Brettski (co-host; discusses marketing/podcast distribution; mentions being a marketer by trade). They reference other creators as examples, not guests.

Key claims

Distribution beats product; “PDFs” and AI-generated content are easy but dead without reach; even SaaS/apps fail without users; consistency posting daily for a year can generate distribution.

Notable examples

YouTube creator Nathan Nazareth selling a digital product course while showing “1.8M/month” claims; “Daily Reps” fitness influencer who posted 20-minute workout videos daily for a year and reportedly sold a workout PDF for about $17,000 in one month.

1:59All right, Jamie, give us your hot take on selling AI digital products online. Okay, so if you've been following this podcast for a long time, you know we like to showcase hustles that work, AI hustles that work. This one, unfortunately, does not. But I wanted to show you kind of how enticing this is and why there actually is potential in digital products, but maybe not for you. So I just want to show this YouTube video, just the hook really quick, and then we'll talk about it. I grew my own digital product business from zero to over 1.8 million per month. And I'm about to show you step-by-step how to start a digital product business in 2026.

2:40Because let me tell you, right now, it has never been easier for beginners to start making money online. Once you understand how to use AI. Okay, so you get the idea. Dude, I want to do it. I want to make 1.8 million dollars. Per month, right? Per month. Per month? Oh my gosh. Step by step, sign me up. Okay, I'm hooked. So, all right, let's go. Yeah, I mean, that sounds amazing to me too. And then if you look over on the side here, the recommended videos, this guy says, build and sell digital products, 1 ,297 per day. You know, there's lots of, oh yeah,$100 ,000 per month, make money with GrokBot.

3:16So there's a lot of, I mean, this is a classic strategy because it's, you know, there's three main categories, health wealth and one other one i forget but there's lots of profitable categories that have content to make and this is one of them it's basically selling you on the idea of making a digital product with ai sounds super easy and in his video he explains how easy it is but basically it's also just an ad sorry i'm gonna shut that up it's an ad for base 44 so i gotcha he's he's a YouTuber Nathan Nazareth is his name. No shade to him, by the way. This is just, there's, I mean, most YouTubers do this, to be honest, including me from back in the day when I did YouTube more frequently.

4:00So he has almost 600 ,000 subscribers. And if you look, yeah, this video, I don't know how many views this video has, but in his description, he has a link to his digital product program. So he's, he's selling you a course on how to make these digital products and sell them. So the irony is that that is his digital product that he's selling. So he's making money teaching you how to, with the digital product that he is using to show you how to make money. So it's very, I don't know, it makes me laugh because it's like, this is, but this is like, like I said, no shade to him. This is a very common thing you see on YouTube.

4:48Um, I think the problem with this strategy and where it falls short is that you have to have the distribution and you, and well, there's two problems. First is the distribution. This guy has, um, 597 ,000 followers on YouTube. Um, and so he's going to get a large percentage of those people to watch his video and then go buy his product. So, uh, same with this other guy. If he has this check next to him, you know, his view, his video got 24 ,000 views. You know, that's probably going to convert pretty well for him. The problem is if you're a newbie and you have zero reach, you got to find a way to sell that product, usually through content, and then you're not going to have nearly as much success as, you know, the person you are, you've bought the course from.

5:33So I personally think that is the biggest problem with these because I think it is possible to make a useful digital product to sell people. But, you know, back in the day, it was basically you could go on Canva, make up this document and then sell a PDF for money. But that is just totally dead. Also because of AI. No, I think you have an amazing point. And and like, as far as it being dead, though, the reason why like we would discourage a lot of people from just doing that exclusively is because the number one element for being successful in that is the is just the the distribution that you have to have.

6:14Now, it's actually interesting because I do have a friend from college and he just started popping up on my Instagram algorithm lately. And I think his Instagram is the daily reps guy. So if you're interested in fitness, go check him out. Shout out. And total, total legend. I'm super impressed with him. We did a bunch of marketing classes together. So anyway, somehow I started popping up on my Instagram haven't seen him in years and years and years. And he's got he started was kind of a trend online, which I don't know if you've seen. So this is this is beyond just like, you know, crap talking the digital product thing.

6:45If you want it to be successful, this is how I'd recommend doing it and how I've seen him do it, which is really impressive. One year ago, he started a challenge. And I don't know if you've seen this, Jamie, but I've seen a lot of people online do this where it's it's every day make one video post on social media where it's like the yap challenge or whatever. We're just talking to the camera about whatever you're interested in or whatever you kind of do. And he started doing that one year ago. His thing was, uh, he wanted to see if he could get ripped in, um, in a year by exercising for 20 minutes a day.

7:15So he just like literally does like a time-lapse of his workout every day. Like I think he'll talk at the beginning about it for, for some, about something. And then he'll literally do a time-lapse of his workout, um, which is 20 minutes. And he can, you know, it's shortened down to like a, you know, a few seconds or whatever. He's done that consistently. And his key is consistency. You can scroll back and it's like day one, day two, day three, all the way up to day 372 or whatever he's at now. It's been over a year. He has over 300 ,000 followers. And just this week, I was watching one of his videos where he did his monthly breakdown.

7:46And he made, I think,$17 ,000 last month by selling his workout fitness PDF. Now, is his workout fitness PDF the most because it's kind of I think it's kind of like his plans and like what he does for his workouts. and you know you're i think a lot of people that have followed him for years maybe they see him all doing all his workouts so like what he's got good results now right because he's been you know working out 20 minutes a day for an entire year so now he's like looking in good shape and so i'm sure a lot of people are like i want to look in good shape and like what is his workout and so then he'll go and sell his pdf but i was so impressed 17 000 in one month i mean it's got to be a pretty simple pdf theoretically you could go make it with chat gpt with any ai tool but what was his secret it's not the pdf and i think that's what you're saying jamie it's like you go watch this YouTube video and this guy's like, how will I make$2 million a year?

8:34Go buy my course. And inside the course, it could be a very simple thing that he used AI to generate. The course and the information is not what's valuable. The value is how he was able to get the distribution and how he was able to get people to actually buy it. So yeah, in this guy's case, he made$17 ,000, but that's because he has the distribution. That's one of the reasons why if you are in the school community, you know this, we have a whole bunch of different like courses and sections on side hustles. We're never going to have a side hustle because we do ones on how to build apps and how to build software and how to do podcasting.

9:06We're never going to have one where it's like, here's how to just make the product because products are so easy to make today. PDFs is a really easy one where you're like, wow, Chattube could literally generate a PDF. But honestly, I would go a step farther and say even a really complex, useful SaaS or app is virtually useless if you can't get any users and if you don't know how to get distribution. So you'll notice inside of the school community and just what we talk about on the podcast a lot too is like how to actually get users in distribution, how to do SEO, how to do even paid ads, how to do, you know, go viral on different platforms or what formats work really well on different platforms.

9:44I'm a marketer by trade. So obviously I'm like a little biased towards this, but I just think so much of the success in any business is not coming down to the products. Today, you need to know how to use AI to generate the product, sure. and make a good one. And that is important, but it's still not going to do anything for you until you learn how to unlock the distribution. Totally. And, uh, you know, this may be a, I'll give, I'll give one secret sauce away, but you're listening to a podcast right now. Podcasts are a great way to get high quality leads and distribution. So I'll just, that's just a little tidbit for you.

10:19But again, talk a lot more about that in the, uh, in the, in the school community. So go check that out. Yeah. Any, any last words for them, Jayden, any words of wisdom? I do think, again, not trying to tear this guy down, but when it comes to building things, you need to have something that's actually useful and then also have great distribution. Those are the two, two keys, but yeah, that's, that's all I have. Yep. Last thing I'll say is, is when the distribution, when it comes to distribution, whether that's posted on LinkedIn or Instagram or TikTok or YouTube or podcasting, whatever your form is, the number one thing that I will say will make you successful, almost guaranteed.

11:02Oh my gosh, a guarantee. You ready for this? Is just consistency. Post every single day and try to make the next day's post a little bit better, right? As long as you're doing that, look at what other people in your niche are doing, right? Like if it's on Instagram, go follow a bunch of other people on Instagram that are in your same niche. If it's on LinkedIn, go follow a bunch of other people on LinkedIn that are posting the same kind of content. If it's a podcast, the same kind of thing. But whatever you're doing, if you can post every single day for one year, you will get distribution. It will work.

11:30The algorithm will grow. And it sounds simple. And 90 % of the people that are listening to this podcast, guys, trying to shake you, you're not going to do it. And I know you're not going to do it. And that's a bummer. But 10 % of you will do it. And those are the people that are going to get distribution. You're not gonna have to pay for ads. Is it the only thing? No, you could go raise a ton of money and go burn it on paid ads. That's fine. And that actually could work. But you're way more likely to be successful if you can get that some of that distribution even to kickstart at the beginning yourself.

11:59So post every day on one medium. That's my challenge to you guys. Thanks so much for tuning into the podcast. We'll catch you all in the next episode. Hanging out at the pool is great.
