In short
This episode of Bottoms Up with Alan Carr and Lee Peart is a “fashion and wine” special, mixing rosé/gin talk with a running gag about “wine accessories” (including drinking from novelty containers like a tote-bag spout, a “wine bra,” and a bracelet hip-flask). They also do a Tesco-led “Summer Wine Up” segment, recommending easygoing rosés for a bank holiday barbecue, and a fashion runway segment where Alan models the wine-themed items.
Guest
Frankie Bridge, fashion expert and former member of The Saturdays. She shares how she built her “Faves” fashion community/weekly email (high-street outfit links, “first dibs,” live runway events using influencers), her Paris couture experience, and her personal drinking/hangover stories.
Key claims/examples
fashion should be empowering and inclusive; in Paris, fame doesn’t matter as much; her hangover came from mojitos; she describes her “bin bag” red-carpet faux pas and a Pride of Britain outfit mishap. Wine examples include Cote de Provence rosé, Domaine de Lille “cock” wine vessel, and Tesco picks: Dianthos Butari (Greek), Jardin de Rosé Languedoc, and Tesco Finest English Sparkling Rosé Brut.

0:30Queen Carvania stood haloed by the morning sun. An army hung on her every word. My champions, I have sold my chariot on Carvana. T 'was a lovely SUV, an inexplicably queenly offer. They're even coming to the castle to collect it. Tonight, we feast. An offer you can feast on. Sell your car today on Carvana. Pick up fees, may I fly. This episode is brought to you by Facebook. So you were scrolling on Marketplace, and there it was, the bike you'd been searching for. You sent a message, and it turned out the seller was super chatty, kind of funny, and an avid cyclist. The next thing you know, you're in a cycling crew.
1:18Well, a community cycling group. The thing about Facebook, you might find more than what you're looking for. From a browse to a bike ride, this summer, find more on Facebook. I think if you are listening to this, I would advise maybe you switch to video. Frankie Bridge, fashion expert, is currently milking Alan.
1:40Alan Carr:Do you know what? I retail for$24.99. It's subtle, yes. No one will know you're having a sneaky drink. Easy does it. Give it a shake. Too much is... Well, bottoms up. Bottoms up and cocks out.
2:01Alan Carr:Hello and welcome to Bombs Up with Alan Carr and Lee Peart. Yes, this week it is our long-awaited fashion episode. Because fashion and wine, they kind of have a lot of things in common, don't they, Alan? They do. Often it's all about labels, whatever's in season. Yes, and you do dress like you're pissed. Here we go, strapping everyone. Gets more passive-aggressive every week. Cheers, bottoms up. Bottoms up. Yeah, this week we are going to be mixing, we're going to be talking through wine fashion, basically. That's lovely. Can we blend the two? And we have our very own style icon here to help us.
2:39Yes. Frankie Bridge is going to be here, very excited. Woo-woo!
2:43Alan Carr:Before that though, welcome drink, courtesy of Thora. Yes, now this is a gorgeous craft gin from Andorra. Nice. They've thrown everything at it and you can taste it, can you taste it? It's got bits of honey in there. Let's have a taste. olives, juniper, 15 kinds of botanicals all from around the Adora region. That's nice. And they also do a Negroni as well. Now, I know you're not a massive Negroni fan, but if you are partial to a Negroni, I think you can just pour this over ice, this Negroni. But it's delish. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've been having a lot of gin. I don't know why. Sorry, vodka. I'm seeing other spirits.
3:18Don't worry. You're in an open relationship with vodka. With a lot of the alcoholic drinks, I'm very open. You're polyamorous. But then we have been in a social world. Yeah, I was going to say, I tell you who I wish I was in an open relationship with. Who? Harry Styles.
3:34Alan Carr:Can I just, I'm going to say this now, and this is going to be controversial, I think he's got better legs than Angela Rippon. Whoa. Really? I went there. What about Bonnie Langford? Ooh. Tricky. You know those, you know those... He's got the best legs you've ever seen. Go on, tell me. Best legs I've ever seen. You know Harry, because Harry Styles, he is... I'll think about it. He is fashion. I've never really fancied anyone in a boy band or anything before. No. But Harry, he just does things to me. But Harry, I don't want to fancy him. It's like this, I want to be like not following the crowd, but there is just something about him.
4:16So we went to see him, that's why we're talking about him. We went to see him. Can you imagine if we hadn't seen him?
4:21Alan Carr:I'd follow him when he leaves his house. People do do that. Have you seen on TikTok? They're all following him. Leave him alone. I know. And he's there like, he just gets filmed all the time. Sometimes I want to say, Harry, come down my house. It's safe there. I will protect you. But yeah, he runs around that stage. Like, can I just say, have you ever been to the dog racing? No. There's a rabbit. Thanks for helping me out there. I'm still going to soldier on. There's that rabbit that runs around. Oh, yes. And the dogs go like that. That's what he was like. He's the rabbit. He was like a rabbit going round that day.
4:58Alan Carr:So much energy. So much. And we had a little bit of VIP treatment as well, I will say. I felt bougie. Thank you to Amanda Holden for arranging it all. Amanda Holden sorted a little box for us. Well, you know why she goes? Why? Because he once sang, you know, Golden, he changed it to Holden. Oh. And that's what she said. So has she got like a thing that rather than suing him, she just gets... Yeah, and that's why she was there with that massive banner, Sing Holden. You're so Holden. No, but he did that. That is to have Harry Styles sing Holden. That is something else. You must have interviewed One Direction, though.
5:34Alan Carr:Yes, I did. Yes, all of them. You knew them back in the day. Oh, yeah, love you. And JLS. Oh, wow. All right. Name dropping. Yes, yeah. I've done all of them, love. Well, listen, not talking to boy bands, we then, the day after, went to take that. Although it was funny. Harry Styles, one thing that did make me laugh is our friend David, our dear friend David, we were walking up. When you go to Wembley Arena, if anyone hasn't been, you have to walk up that stadium, sorry, sorry. You have to walk up that big long walkway and it's always so busy. And David's there with his tote bag and this security...
6:10He's homosexual, by the way. This security woman goes, sorry, you can't take that in. And he goes, what the tote bag? Your Your bag's too big. No bag's bigger than A4. And David said, Well, this bag isn't bigger than A4. You think this is bigger than A4? The guard whips out an A4 sheet of paper, which was considerably... I thought, she's come armed.
6:33Alan Carr:Yeah, yeah. She was a bit of a Karen, really. She was a Karen. We're like, no way is that bag more than A4. A4. Think again. What? We're like, yeah, we'll let you have this one. Yeah. I mean, listen, and can I say, I love David DeBitz, but the way he face fell when he had a hand in a tote bag. I know. It's one up from a bag for life. I know. It's not like, it's not like, take it off. My family heirloom. It's a tote bag and it's from quite a shit shop. There, I've said it. But listen, I'm loving this gin. Yeah, it's delish, delish. For a gin and Negroni, if you're partial to that. Cheers, Alan.
7:15Bottoms up.
7:20Alan, I know you've been looking after yourself recently with your green juices and your personal training
7:25Alan Carr:I know, but it's so hard I've had to swap me pasties for a PT and me Greggs for some greens and apparently you're meant to have a glass of water between each glass of wine Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa Don't you ever let me hear you say something so blasphemous again I've got a solution Have you heard of wild nutrition? Here we go, another one of your collagen lectures. It's not a lecture, actually. I genuinely use their Collagen 500 Plus every day and it is super easy. I just stir it into my coffee every morning. You stir the collagen into the coffee? Mm-hmm. Oh, your skin is looking good. You're looking very moisturised, I'll say that.
8:04That is the nicest thing you've ever said to me. But in all honesty, Wild Nutrition's Collagen 500 Plus, It supports healthy looking hair, skin, it's packed with vitamin C and E, full of biotin and just like me, thousands of people are already adding it to their daily routine. So I thought maybe it was time you gave it a go. Are you saying I need it? No, I'm saying like a fine wine, you are maturing beautifully and I'm just trying to preserve the vintage. Cheeky sod. If you want to give it a go, then great news. Wild Nutrition is offering bottoms-up listeners 50 % off their first three months, plus a free consultation with one of their nutritional therapists.
8:48All you have to do is visit wildnutrition.com forward slash bottoms-up. T's and C's apply.
8:58Alan Carr:Our guest today knows a thing about labels, whether it's fashion or music, but what does she know about wine? Hmm, let's find out. It's Frankie Bridge. Frankie. Hello. I've got one thing to say to you. What? Where have you bloody been, bitch? That's our thing. Is this an end joke? It's an end joke. But no one's going to find fun. No one will get it. It's from Summer Heights High. Did you ever watch Summer Heights High? Oh, yeah, is that Chris Lilley? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Celine. She's got a really big break. Celine, you're Celine. Yeah. No, basically. I don't know what you're talking about. That's fine.
9:34I'll just be on my phone We met So I met Frankie When we worked on Loose Women And I used to say that To her all the time We didn't We were a slow burn Weren't we? Yeah I didn't like Lee at first Neither do I No He is a slow burner Yeah Why didn't you like me? Erm I don't know I think I just thought You were A bit For the purpose of the listeners Frankie's grimacing Touching into her memories You were just I was a bit aloof You were a bit aloof. I was a bit cold. Yeah, you were a bit aloof, but then also like quite intense in the same...
10:09Alan Carr:He is intense. I'm so glad you brought this up. But to everyone else apart from me, I think he was like trying to like make me work for it. I'm regretting this question. Yeah. And then I just thought, oh, fuck you. I don't like you. And then tell them about when you, the Saturdays. What? Oh, yeah. So when I made the big boo-boo. Do you remember? This was probably why you didn't like him. Yeah, no, yeah, probably. We were at the Loose Women Christmas party, which was the most feral thing. It was the girl. Remember, we all got told off for posting a load of videos about it the next day, and it was all in the papers, and we got told off.
10:39You were on the chair at one point, weren't you? Yeah. Was this the one where you were playing the piano? Yeah, it was the members club where they threw on an oversized blazer on me because I wasn't wearing the right dress code. I looked like that guy from Big. He did, yeah.
10:53Alan Carr:And I always think, you know, these, because they're quite legendary, these loose women rap parties, and apparently I heard that a man went in there by mistake, Do you remember in Jurassic Park when they lowered the goat in? Carol McGiffin's The T-Rex. Just a pair of trousers just thrown out the door. I saw him again. Yeah, because we only have women and gay men. A straight man gets lowered in. He's not coming out alive. She said, you're not a fan of The Saturdays. I said, I love The Saturdays. What's that song I love? They call me Drakesy. They call me Maureen. That's not my name. She went, that's not my band.
11:30I was like it's the team teams yeah it's not even like a girl band I don't know it's the team teams but we did end the night with you playing the piano and us singing show tunes and we bonded we bonded and then I was like okay I like you and we're friends now he's a theatre boy I know I know yeah so Frankie we've invited you on because you are the fashionista yes you are
11:50Alan Carr:she's been in Paris she's come straight from Paris I know so what's the vibe because I never get believe it or not I don't get invited to fashion events yeah that's weird yes um yeah so it was all couture week so it was like all the couture shows so i got to go to a show when i was out there and got to wear a lovely gown is it intimidating it is intimidating because that's like the next level it is yeah it is a little bit and you kind of go in and obviously because it's in paris no one knows who i am no one cares who i am actually to the point where um some girl was coming in and everyone knew who she was and I got pushed out of the way by all these paps.
12:27And I was like, cool, that's how you stay grounded. Yes. Yeah? Yeah. It doesn't matter. I've been working since I was 12. No one cares in Paris.
12:35Alan Carr:No, but is that quite nice? Yeah, it is great. You're just like, yeah. I've only ever been on the front row once for Julian McDonald and it is a cat fight. And I got there early, you've got nothing else to do. So I'm sitting on the front row. Someone more famous comes along. You get fucking moved back. Yeah. And then more famous. next thing around I'm by the bins yeah if you're not at the front then you might I know that's it and you're sitting there well this is a good view I mean I don't know what to do I'm like this and then you know shift back yeah it's honestly it's brutal it is brutal but that's kind of why I love it because like if you do get to the front you're like I've done alright tell me what's in this summer well a lot of like lace and lingerie style it's kind of like oh you're in yeah so right up your street I'm fashion forward I've been wearing that for years yeah and how do you feel about the capri pant.
13:23Alan Carr:Love. Oh, well, we were right about the legs. Yes. The purpose of the list. Move over, Harry Styles. You've got better legs than Harry Styles. Thank you. Yeah, I'll get my short shorts out. They've been a big thing. So lace is in for men as well because I feel like I look like a fat doily. To be honest, I don't really know for men. I'm not going to lie. You're not branched out. You're doing great, guys. We've weirdly... We didn't... Oh, your buttons. That's my gunt pushing it out. That's really in this season. Guns are in. Guns are ahead. For the first time ever, I'm on trend. Do you know what?
13:56Alan Carr:I was chatting to this woman. She's not an old woman, but she didn't really know what gun is. And I think she went... That's awkward. I know. And then she went, do you know what, Alan? I'm going to get home today and get my gun out. And I went, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. And I said, do you know what gun is? She went, oh, it's this bit here, isn't it? I said, no, downstairs. And she's horrified. She's been telling people, can't wait to get my gun out. She gets it out for anybody. I know, I know. It's a rumours star. No gunt. Well, tell us about, just before we... There's the clickbait thing.
14:26Gunt. Gunts are in.
14:28Alan Carr:Me pulling my face. Gunts are in. I've just made you huge. You're welcome. Tell us about, you have a three drink rule, although there's only two here, but you bring a welcome drink, don't you? You've next one already, is that right? Yeah, the Diet Coke. Mental. You have Diet Coke. Yeah. You have an Eastern Standard. I like an Eastern Standard for those that don't know what an Eastern Standard is. Is that gin? Well, it's gin or vodka. You prefer a vodka one, don't you? I do, yeah. Lime juice, bit of sugar syrup. Okay. Muddle a little bit of mint and cucumber as well. Muddle? Muddle, yeah. Mmm. Yeah, muddle.
15:11We're like siblings. We just like nip at each other. Muddle. Muddle. I talked to him earlier and I was like, hmm.
15:18Alan Carr:Yeah, she didn't like my necklace. This is interesting. It's very gold. And you wonder why Claire's accessories shut down.
15:28Alan Carr:And, you know the Coco Chanel thing? Whenever you leave the house, you should always turn around and take one thing off. That's what you should have taken off. You should have taken that off. Okay, this is where you say it's got someone's ashes in, isn't it? Yeah. And we're like, take it off. I remember you. I remember you. You can remember them. Not forgotten. You can remember them in your drawer. What Claire's accessories? Yeah, Claire. My dear friend, Claire.
15:56Anyway, thanks for coming on, Frankie. Are you sure she's your friend? No. Because she's being quite bitchy. Yeah, sorry. That's why she's my friend. So, the reason you're on is, you know, you are our fashion expert. Right. But you're not a big drinker, are you? I'm not a massive drinker, no. Are you a bit of a lightweight? I'm a massive lightweight. I actually just had my first proper hangover last week. Your first ever. Oh, congratulations. Thank you. I'm so proud of you. Thanks. At the age of 37.
16:28Alan Carr:Oh, it's amazing, isn't it? Feeling, wishing you were dead. It was honestly the worst day of my life. And I was so pathetic, I cried. Oh, yeah, I've done that before. Yeah, I cried. And I washed my hair and then I couldn't brush it, so my friend Leah had to brush my hair for me. And I was like, this is a new low. You feel so helpless. What have you been drinking? I was drinking mojitos. Oh, mojitos. Where were you? I was away. Oh, okay. Holiday hangover. They hit differently. If you're struggling on a holiday hangover, good luck. I then had to travel home. So I think that's what was, yeah. Oh, no.
17:04I was fine by the time I got home and went in the gym, so it's all good.
17:07Alan Carr:Airports and hangovers, they're the worst. Oh, my God. I was there for work and I looked like I'd been on a hen. I actually went on a stag and didn't have one hangover. so. Why did you go on a stag do? Well, you're a gay man. Do the maths. Oh, yes. Oh, yeah, we forget gays have got rights. Yes. Remember? They can marry now. I was there when I'm in the beginning. Yes. Well, that's when most of their female friends come. That's called a hag do. A hag do. Yeah, yeah. Okay. And you had a hag over. Yeah, I did have a hag over. And finally, we all drank rose-o together. With lemonade. So why'd you put lemonade in it?
Read the full transcript
17:44Let's have a taste. Cheers, bottoms up. Okay, come on, before you judge me. This is a bit of rosé with lemonade. I find this sacrilege. Many of the wine connoisseurs that listen to this, many of them, how is it?
17:56Alan Carr:What's the point? What do you mean? You know, I will say as well, a lot of the ice has melted, so it's kind of a watery... Yes, it is, yeah. But why do you do that? Why would you just not go for something else? Do you want the feeling of drinking a rosé? You don't want to look left out? No, I actually, I do really like rosé and I can now drink rosé without lemonade. Yeah. I've promised myself I wouldn't cry. She's grown. She's a woman now. I am a woman. Slipping through my fingers.
18:31Wine bag in hand.
18:35I am from Essex. Yes. Quite an Essex thing. Whereabouts Essex? Up Minster, right at the end of the district line. Okay, because I used to live in Woodford, but people would say that that's not actual proper Essex. Yeah, people would say it's not Essex, but it is. I just like the taste. I think it's more refreshing. I do love quite a lot of ice in it as well. And also it means if you've got a shit rosé, it makes it good. Yeah, yes. But you, going back to Essex, because obviously you did S Club Juniors. I did. Do you feel like if you maybe didn't do that, you might have turned into the Essex, you know, it's known for the party and it's known for going out.
19:10Do you might have ever ended up being sugar up? What a reach. I used to work in Sugar Hut. No way. Yes. Did you? In between Escov Juniors and the Saturdays, I worked behind the bar in Sugar Hut.
19:21Alan Carr:Oh, what's a big cellar in the Sugar Hut? Oh, I can't remember. You know, my favourite thing was people would come up to the bar and they'd be like, Billy, big bollocks. Be like, I've got this guy's champagne, yeah, shots. And they'd come up to me and they'd be like, what's the cheapest champagne that you've got? And I'd go, oh, this one. And they'd go, oh, actually, no, just sparkling wine or something. And I'd be like, yeah, OK, not so much. Oh, wow. Yeah. Oh, so they're like that, making it rain. Yes, and I actually used to have to serve, they used to make me serve all the celebs, which was a real, you know, come down from being in F-S-O-B juniors.
19:52And I used to have to serve one of the ones from Blazing Squad. I can't remember what his name was. Well, that does not narrow it down. No, that's quite a lot. There's 107 of them. And there you go, yeah. One of the ones from Blazing Squad. I would say you worked in, but you then, you kind of missed the party lifestyle of yes. I think I did, yeah. And also I had a sister that really loved to drink. And I, because I was in Escobar Junior, she had come home from a night out. I used to follow her up the stairs because she was like Bambi. Her legs just didn't work once she had a drink. She's still the same.
20:25I'd follow her upstairs, make sure she got in bed. I'd put her in her pyjamas, give her some paracetamol on the side and set her alarm for work. and she'd just wake up when her alarm went off and go off to work and be like, great, thanks, Frank. Yeah, so she's the more fun one. If you want to have a really good night out, go home with my sister.
20:41Alan Carr:Oh, stop. I wish we'd got her on the podcast. Yeah, I guess it's too late. You know who's like that? Amanda Holden's like that with me. Is she? She's really kind and so. And the amount of times I've woken up in her spare room and there's always like a couple of like, you know, paracetamol or some urethin or she holds back his hair. Yeah, you need a friend like that.
21:05Thanks for doing two strands. So talk to us about fashion. So, you know, you have created an empire. You've created a big, your faves, not Frankie's faves. No, just faves. Just faves, okay. Talk to us about that. So that came about, was it just on Instagram, first of all? Yeah, so it was just on Instagram, first of all. We created a community for women to feel like they have access to fashion. and it just kind of happened naturally of me sharing outfits every week from the high street and I just think, especially as women, we go through these stages where life changes, we pivot in our careers, we have kids and you kind of lose your weight with fashion and I just wanted women to feel like they could still be a part of it and feel more confident and now we have an email that goes out every week, people can sign up to it.
21:54It's for free, isn't it? For free, yeah. And so they get first dibs on all the links for the outfits and we kind of solve fashion problems. It's kind of like a big fashion catalogue. You're almost like an agent for all the fashion things because you curate it, don't you?
22:10Alan Carr:You do. If you want to know what the trends are and stuff, I mean, I'm so old now, I don't even know what the trend is. And then you don't want to start looking like, if I start dressing like Harry Styles, people would have gone back on the pipe. I think I'd like it if you started dressing like Harry Styles. Me and the short shorts. Yes. With my varicose face. Get them sorted. Yeah. Get the short shorts on. But we do live runways now as well. during London Fashion Week, which has been a really huge thing for us because I think it's one of those things that even people that work in fashion, a lot of them don't get to go to the fashion shows.
22:40So it was really fun to do that. So we're doing another one this year. So what does that involve? So you get the models and they fashion the catwalk? Yeah, so they're not models. Yeah, so we use our influencers. So we've got Faves Ambassadors who are influencers. But they're all different shapes and sizes and they have never done a runway before. so for them it was like a really big deal um it's just about people feeling seen oh it's empowering
23:06Alan Carr:as well yeah because i mean fashion does have this uh reputation for being a bit snarky and a bit like but it's nice because everyone should feel good and want to feel good and look good and yeah yeah it's positive did you did you always get that because obviously being in the saturdays you probably would style them those were you always quite fashion forward or is this something that's come later on? No, I think I was. I think I always knew what I liked and what I didn't like. It's hard when you're in a band because obviously you have to kind of all look good together. Compliment each other. And I just wasn't ever naturally a girly girl when I joined the Saturdays.
23:38People won't know this about you, but you're a bit of an emo. I am, yeah. Yeah. Rock, aren't you? Yeah, man. Yeah. Ready?
23:46Alan Carr:What, an emu? You're like Wayne. My husband calls me an emu. She was an emu. I did always enjoy fashion, but it's harder when you've got to all fit in together. But it's just always something I loved. And what I think is great is now, there's not really like actors, musicians, everyone like fashion and the arts are kind of just one now. Whereas I feel like it wasn't like that so much when I was in the band. And we have to ask, the gays will kill us if we don't. Here it comes. Will, will, she's thrilled about this. Will there ever be Saturday's reunion? Who knows? Who knows? Who knows? I don't know.
24:23Maybe rebrand Bank Holiday Monday. I was thinking if we could be backing singers at the Monday mornings.
24:31Alan Carr:That's probably more likely. The hangovers from hell. Yay! Go on tour with you. I don't know. So I'm kind of like, one day I would love to do it like a one-off. I don't think I could do a whole album single and all of that stuff. But I feel like the gays deserve it. Yeah, they do. Like I genuinely do. I feel like the Megamix, another gay man that comes up to me and says, I still love the Megamix. I used to go to Thompson's Arms down Canal Street in my 20s and the Megamix would come on and I'd be like, I love the Ting Tings.
25:06Anyway, Alan, what do you think? Can I just say, though, I do think, sometimes I do feel sorry for people who are in boy bands, girl bands, or what, because often people go, like, you deal with the information you have at the time and you don't know that 10 years down the line, five years down the line, you might currently be like, no, we're not going to get back together. But actually five years down, you might go, actually, like it has to be right for everyone.
25:28Alan Carr:Well, that's what Posh said, isn't it? She said, you know, her kids were growing up and they were like, mum, what do you do? And then she went, you know, it's nice to go and do it. To be fair, I always say that because obviously my husband used to play football. I'm always like, our kids have absolutely no idea what we used to do. Like absolutely no idea. They also don't care. I'm also like, they think he's really cool. so I've got two boys. Does that ever annoy you? Are you like, I was a pop star? Yes. I'm like, mummy used to be a pop star, darling, okay? Tell your friends. Have you ever done a fashion faux pas?
26:00Alan Carr:Is there anything you look back and go, oh no, why? Oh, so many. Frankie, why did you do that? So many. You know what? There's a few. One that really sticks out for me always is, bless our stylists at the time, we had these dresses because we all used to wear different colours and we had these dresses that were like bin bag material and they had a little bow on the front. And because I was like, I'm emo, I don't want to wear a colour, I was like, no, I'm going to wear the black one. So I basically wore a bin bag on the red carpet. I screwed myself and it haunts me still. And then other than that, I wore, it was an amazing dress, but I had the audacities to go to Pride of Britain in a tiny silver, fully sparkled dress with all bits missing out of it.
26:47And I thought that was appropriate to wear to Pride of Britain. It looked great.
26:51Alan Carr:Yeah. But that's what makes me laugh about those people on the red carpet. Yeah, you celebs need to know it's not about you, it's about the public. And I'm like, well, you're the one queuing here from 5am to get a fucking autograph. Keep that in. Please, Alan, tell us how you really feel. Now I'm walking down. They're the real celebs. I know, they're fucking... Yeah, why are you asking for a selfie then? Yeah, I know these people are amazing. Right, chill out. Before we go on to our wine accessories, we've got some wine fashion for you to be judging with us. Okay, I'm so excited. We want to move away from the rosé and lemonade.
27:28We've got you a nice rosé because it's a wine podcast. So we thought we'd bring a nice Cote de Provence for Frankie to try. And we've got actually an accessory, haven't we? Yes, we have. We've brought it. Oh. So this can complement the wines. For the purpose of the listeners, I've pulled out a Cote de Provence and Alan has pulled out a Dick-canter. A Dick-canter. A Dick-canter. Which is it generally used for rosé wine?
27:58Alan Carr:Do you know how long I was there of having that moulded? You actually haven't got much girth, have you? No, no. It's like a pepperami. Yeah. You know what I say? Short and thick does the trick. So... It's the opposite. I know, I don't know why I said it! Now, I will say... Oh God, it's bubbling! Why is it bubbling? Me, your balls are full! So, the reason we've chosen this bottle of rosé, alright, is because... I bet they are loving it! The people at Domaine de Lille, we're drinking out of a cock. Yeah. Are you going to drink it straight from the cock? No, you pour it. You pour it out. You let it breathe.
28:46All right, so... Do you do that with roses? This, this... No, you don't really. This vineyard is owned by Chanel. Oh, I love it. Oh, she loves it already. Chanel owned this vineyard. Coco died for that, so... I love how you knew how to handle that straight away.
29:07Alan Carr:Well, give it a shake. Easy does it. Easy does it. Give it a shake. Too much is... Oh! Oh, God. Premature. Look how much you're shaking. Why are you so nervous? Why are you shaking? It's not the first time you've had a cock in your hand.
29:24It's like, Mommy, I'm sorry. God, it's hard to get... It's hard to get it going. It's hard. Oh, no, no, no.
29:36Alan Carr:Right, really lowering the tone, guys. No, but that's a fault. That's a fault. What? It's not a fault, but it's just, yeah. There's something wrong with it. Yeah, a bit of a design thing. It needs a sense of a small. It's weird because I think they were really thinking about how it works. Yeah. Look, it's all in the balls. Look, why? Yeah, oh God. Why are you so nervous? Why are you shaking? Because I don't want it to fall everywhere. I think you need to tip it forward. That's it, four. I know how to handle this. Okay. Frankie's Only Fans are available. Feel like you're back in sugar hot.
30:07Anything for a tip.
30:13Well, bottoms up. Bottoms up and cocks out.
30:20Okay, what's your drink of choice? If you were just going to have one, is it a mojito or has that put you off now? No, I never drink mojitos. That's the problem.
30:27Alan Carr:That's how she got the hangover, right? Sometimes you have a drink and I'm like that with port. Me and my dad at Christmas, you know, we have a great relationship now, but we never used to. And he's all, let's have some port. I can't have port. I get the worst hangout. You know, when you say cry, I mean, normally I can handle it. I was like, oh, if you have that one drink that just... The smell of it. Yeah, that's it. Your body goes, get it out my body. Get out my body. Because you're good as well because you can have a couple, can't you? Do you remember the 1975 where I just couldn't stop drinking?
30:56I just made such a tit of myself. That's where I asked Charlie XCX what she did for a living. But I had no idea either. Yeah, I know. No idea. She said, oh, I'm in music. I said, oh, good for you.
31:13We were both flat anyway. Do you remember when I said, I said, oh, who's this woman in front of us flailing her arms all over the place? I said, she must have won a competition. And she said, that's Florence Welsh. And I said, from the machine? Yes. From the machine. Florence from the machine. Yeah, that was a night. That was a night, yeah. And then you annoyed everyone in the cab on the way home. Yeah, because Denise said, I just kept repeating everything. Apparently, I just kept going, you must be so proud of your song. She was like, I'm really proud. And then it'd be like, pause. Do you know, you must have been so proud.
31:48And she said it was, yeah, it was awful. And that's when I realised that I really liked him. Yeah. Right, I think it's time to move on because we've got a fashion expert here. Yeah. And we are going to, we're going to judge the fashion accessories Alan, you have kindly volunteered to be our fashion model. Yes, that's right. Get that gunt ready. We're going to do that kind of this morning type fashion segment. We're calling it This Pouring, aren't we?
32:27So, let's get ready. Let's get this cleared up and let's get the fashion segment to commence. It's wine and fashion. What could possibly go right? Get me on that runway. 33:42Right, it's now time for a special segment of the Summer Wine Up, brought to you by none other than Tesco, and we're sporting our badges, aren't we, Alan? Yes, Lee Peart. Peart, that's right. Can I speak to your supervisor? I am the supervisor. Oh, wow. All over summer, we've been listening to your dilemmas, and thank you for sending them in. And we, thankfully, have a direct connection with the Tesco wine experts that are helping us through. And it is time to crack open your favourite, rosé.
34:17Alan Carr:Well, listen, do you want to hear the dilemma? Go on. I've got a barbecue coming up on the bank holiday weekend. Sounds fabulous. Except it's at my in-laws. Oh. Oh, they'll put on the same insane spread they always do. Oh, this is a positive story. I was like, oh, boring. Soggy, oh. I hope this letter is anonymous. Including the soggy potato salad my mother-in-law insists on making every single year. However, she knows her wines. What's an easygoing summer rosie I can bring that will A, survive the spread, and make me look like I know what I'm doing in the wine aisle. It sounds like there's some kind of weird competition going on between these two.
35:01Yeah. It's like, I've got the spread, but I know the wine. So this person wants to come and be like, yeah, I know what I'm doing too.
35:09Alan Carr:She doesn't want cliche. No. She wants sophistication. She wants glamour. She wants like, yeah, suck on this mother-in-law. Yeah, exactly. Well, let's start. Pop this with a mashed, not mashed potato, is it? Potato salad. Potato salad. Although she said it was soggy, so maybe it feels a bit mashed. Maybe, maybe whoever, maybe the person who said this, this is wrong. Maybe it's mashed potato. She's going, excuse me, your potato salad's soggy. Why is it hot? You're eating mash. Okay, so we're going to move. It's mash. Okay, we've got to move. We've got a dilemma to solve, babe. All right, love, we'll keep pouring.
35:46Less talking, Lee. Pee it. So first one, we have the Dianthos Butari. Oh, where's this from? So, well, I will tell you where it is from. So this, I think, is a Greek wine. Yes, I'm right. Greek. Founded in 1879. Butari is one of the country's most historic and respected wine producer, all right? You've got vibrant pomegranate in there. You've got strawberry and savory notes. But the thing is as well...
36:16Alan Carr:Well, listen to this. Dianthos, it's Greek for flower of the gods. Zeus envied his sister's flower so much the lily, he threw a bolt of lightning, created a superior flower. The rose. I'm with Zeus, this is good. Imagine, imagine her turning up to the barbecue. There you go, mother-in-law, Dianthos. It's good enough for Zeus, it's good enough for you. Yeah, Greek for flower of the gods, and then you just sashay away. Yeah, that's good. Well, listen, it's also, it retails at£10.50, and it pairs perfectly with that kind of Mediterranean seasoning. So if you've got like halloumi, feta, grilled lamb, chicken skewers, how's that tasting for you?
36:55Wow. It's nice, isn't it? Mmm, that's good. So that's a butari. I'm ready for some soggy potato salad. Yeah, of course. Bring on the mash.
37:03Alan Carr:Well, let's not judge too much because we're going to move on now to the Jardin de Rosé Languedoc. Do you remember about Languedoc? It's near, oh my God, it's next door to another region. Yes. Côte de Provence. Yes. So it's quite close to that. Just along the coast from Provence, Languedoc is producing very similar wines from the same grapes. Well, we said that. So this might be a good one to come up because I do think as well, if you're turning up to a barbecue with a woman who knows her wines and she's like, oh, Côte de Provence. But actually it can be like Languedoc, you know, it's next door neighbour.
37:41It's next door. Yeah. And I like that. I like the font. Nice. Let's have a taste of this. This also retails at£10.50. So a really, really great. That's great,£10.50. And also the bottle looks nice. It looks posh, doesn't it? I dare say it's a nicer bottle than the Dianthus. I like it ribbed. Ooh. Oh. Okay, I will say I prefer that than... This is weird.
38:07Alan Carr:It says it goes good with red snapper. I mean, that's quite specific. Yeah, well, I will say that is nicer than the Butari, I think. I prefer that, I should say. It's not nicer, but I prefer that to the Butari. What do you think? It's a bit lighter. A bit lighter. It's got that Cote de Provence feel because it's just down the road. But you know what I'm saying? I've had Greek wines before. That's good for a Greek wine. Oh, yeah, yeah. Really nice. So what's the last one, my love? The last one is the Tesco Finest English Sparkling Rosé Brut. oh i always carry emergency glasses with me you are so there we go let's open this english sparkling we've said this before it is it's the new front runner it is all right and and this oh i love a rosé sparkling do you love it okay here we go english oh so yeah it's produced um in the Balfour winery.
39:05And I think we might have had this Balfour before, but not the rosé one, all right? So let's have a taste. Tilt your glass slightly there, babe. Thank you. So we've had two rosés there. I will say the Jardin is my favourite of the two, but this is a sparkling rosé. So if you want a little bit more celebration, I wonder whether this is the one you go for. Do you know what?
39:28Alan Carr:I think that for me, that feels like barbecue. I would take these two to a friend who I knew already and they know I love a rosé, but I think if you're out to impress, then I think this is great. English sparkling, that's got to work. Yeah, I would agree. And actually, what I would say as well is, someone's putting on a barbecue for you. These two are really good price at£10.50. This one retails still a really great price for a sparkling£22. That is good for a really good sparkling. Made basically in the traditional method like champagne is. that's a little bit more of a, you've spent a bit more to say thank you for coming on.
40:06Alan Carr:But I think this mother-in-law, I think she's going to be looking to see how much she's paid for this. Yeah, she's the type that would Google the prices. I think that for the barbecue, if you're having Red Snapper, that. Yeah. Specifically. Yeah. And actually the Greek one's quite nice. If you want to go a little bit like, oh no, it's a Greek wine. And also that shows that you know your bit about wines. You've gone actually, oh no, I've gone for a Grecian one. But we're going to go for the English sparkling. Let's be patriotic today. Yeah. We're going for English. Good luck with the barbecue and also good luck with the relationship between you and your mother-in-law.
40:38We hope you sort out everything that you need to do. Head to Tesco.com or pop into your local Tesco to pick up these bottles and explore the full range.
40:47Alan Carr:Drinkware 18 Plus products are available in the majority of larger stores and online. UK only, drink responsibly. Prices are correct at time of recording and may be subject to change.
41:04Welcome back to This Pouring. Coming up, we've got Sharon Marshall with some soap gossip. But before that, we are doing our fashion segment. Now, Frankie, you're here as our fashion expert. And we've got some models that are going to walk the catwalks. So first off, we have Alan, 50, from Northampton. Come on in, Alan. Now, for the purpose of the listener, Alan is sporting a very nice, fancy turquoise and white tote bag. Now, Frankie, what do we say about that tote bag? The stitching on it looks divine, doesn't it? It does. It's very intricate, isn't it? Intricate detailing there. And there's a little popper there.
41:52Oh, there's a popper there. Yes, there is. Oh, sorry, that just popped out.
41:58Popper. Let's see, Alan, you've got a little flap there.
42:02Alan Carr:Yes, I've got a little flap. Do you want to open that? And you know when you're at the beach and there's a queue at the local pub or like the beach hut and you're just gasping for a little drink? Gasping. Well, look at this. Okay. Open the flap, get the nozzle out. Oh, there's a nozzle. There's a nozzle. And there you go. It's the old way, Alan. What? It's the wrong way, you've taken the nozzle off. What? What? That's the nozzle. So where's the nozzle? Oh God. So just... Yeah, you drink a lot of bagged wine. So you get the nozzle out and then you just twist it. You don't. You do, and then that should be that, right?
42:49Lee, we're going to lose our contract with wine bags. It's like we're milking a cow. I know. So you pop it in like that and for the purpose of the listener, this isn't working.
43:01Alan Carr:This is crap! How'd you work it? It did work, but I think you've... There you go. That's it. And you open it like that. And what I like about this, it's subtle. It's subtle, yes. No one will know you're having a sneaky drink. Yes. And then you just... You pop it back in and you go back to your sun lounger. Wow. No one knows you've had a drink. No. I'd say that's super classy. Lovely stuff. Okay, well, thank you. No, no. Ask how much it retails. Oh, sorry. Yes, of course. Alan, how much does this retail at? This is£24.99. Wow. Okay. And if you buy this, you get a free cheap necklace. Oh, the same as the one that Lee's wearing.
43:45Alan Carr:Yes, that Lee's modelling as well. Perfect. All right. Thank you, Alan. Our next model is... Actually, funnily enough, Alan, again, 50 from Northampton. Same person. So, Alan's back. Alan, nice. So, we've got another bag here. Look at his shoes. Red mocha dot. Covered in wine? Alcoholic? Me? No. Is this real leather? It's not. Come on. It's weird. It's not real leather. No. So, it's actually good, you know. Yeah. And, you know, sometimes Monday morning, you get in. Oh my God, you've got an inbox full of emails and you just saying, Oh, rat race, I need a little drink. Yes. Okay. Always. What's going to happen now, I wonder?
44:32I wonder. So, Alan's got a nice leather black handbag here. It's not leather.
44:38Alan Carr:And a very discreet... Pleather. Pleather, sorry, because I don't want any vegans. And this, you just open the flap. Oh, and there's another nozzle. Another discreet flap. Oh, we're going for the same glass. Okay. Okay, don't pranky really. Shall we keep it classy? Oh, yeah, let's keep it classy. I'm trying to get a drink out of a leather bag. It's not leather. It's leather, all right. So you just, and then twist the nozzle there. Oh, shit. Lovely stuff, Adden. Wow. Wow. What a smooth transition. Yeah, and no one knows, and then you're in the office, your boss is looking away. No one knows. Perfect.
45:22Alan Carr:Nicely done. And if you want to be more subtle, what I like to do is pour it into a dick canter. Yes. Yeah. Right up to the rim. Yes. So, Alan, can you tell us, because that bag does look lovely. It's nice. The straps are lovely, a bit of gold. And the gold hardware. Yeah, the gold hardware. It goes lovely with capri pants. It does. And the textured pleather is great. Yeah, and that's in, isn't it? Yeah. And what does this retail at, Alan? $24.99, like the other tote bag. Oh, wow. Wow. So you get a little bit more for the same price. Yeah, you do. And a little bit more premium and a little bit more kind of corporate, I guess.
45:59It's corporate, really. Yeah. Thank you, Alan.
46:02Alan Carr:You've got meetings. You've got touch base. Pivot. Think outside the box. KPIs. Think outside the box of wine. Could you drink straight from? Could you drink straight from the bag? No, that would be seen as really unclassy. Okay. We're not in Essex now. Thank you, Alan. Thank you, Alan. Thank you. All right, so next up, we have our next model. It's Alan from Northampton, who... Oh, Alan, no bag today. No bag. No handbag today. Nothing to see here. Oh, he's got breasts. For the purpose of the listener, yeah, you look a little bit more perky. Yes. And I'm not talking, you know, in your personality.
46:48My face is up here, leave.
46:52Alan Carr:So, have you been working out? No, actually, this is a wine bra. Oh, you're sporting a wine bra. Wine bra. This is rosé here. Do you want to top up, love? Oh, thank you so much. And the great thing is you have to really squeeze it. Could you squeeze the tit? Yeah. So for the purpose of the listener, Frankie Bridge, fashion expert, She's currently milking Alan. Alan? Maybe press the other tip. Maybe just try and get the... The flow? The flow going. Maybe up. Okay. Wait, hold on. This is off. You need to take this off. I can't. There's no wine. Oh, my God. There you go. Very discreet. Wow. This is a rosé.
47:38Alan Carr:That's a lovely rosé. It's from France. And it's cold. It's cold. And not just a glass. If you've not got a glass, Yeah, you can just... Oh! I'm sorry Frankie, Frankie sorry. If you haven't got a last you can suck on your own tip. And we've all done that before. Oh no! Well, oh that's lovely and what does that... Oh God you've lactated. I know, oh my, oh no! So yeah, so that's lovely and what does that retake? Can we see the bra itself? Okay. Just undo the button. Wow. Down. Wow. Do you know what? I retail for 24.99. That is a very small bra. Have you been measured?
48:33Alan Carr:So, yeah, that's great. But listen, so I've got a little present for you before you go because you have been so wonderful. Thank you. Wait. One second. Oh, Frankie. Oh, shit. Has Frankie already signed her release form? From the back.
48:54He looks, what's that shop in Soho? Oh, Browler. Browler.
49:01Now, for the purpose of the listener, I think if you are listening to this,
49:08Alan Carr:I would advise maybe you switch to video. Yeah, yeah. And this is£5.99. And it's like, if you're busy doing stuff and you, you know, you know, I don't know, hold the wine. Yeah. Your hands are full. Hands are full. I've got things to do. You're pushing a buggy. You're pushing... We're busy women on the school run. You're babysitting, you're doing data entry. You're driving a car and operating heavy machinery. But obviously we've got a lovely present for you because we know you love fashion. This is for you. I thought that was my present. Oh, you can have this. Oh, sad. I'll pop some lemonade in it.
49:44Alan Carr:Perfect for you. Thank you. What is this? So what is this? It's a fashion-forward bracelet, or is it? But maybe just... Oh, hold on. For the purpose of the listener... Is anyone still listening? No. Frankie, all watching. Frankie has been handed a lovely Diamante bracelet. Yes. And it's quite thick, but it's got a little nozzle on the top. Do you want to twist that nozzle? Let's open that nozzle and see what's happening. Hold on a second, what might be in here... Stop it! It's a bracelet hip flask. Oh, no, that's rosé. So warm. Just how we like it. My God, guys, this is the best gift I've ever been given.
50:27Oh, my gosh, we want to see that on the catwalk at Paris. It's so discreet. So discreet, almost as discreet as this. Yes. Yes.
50:38Alan Carr:So, all the prices are on our website. Yeah. Thispouring.com forward slash what happened. And if you need help, there's also a website for that. Can I just say, please drink responsibly. Can I say that when I've got wine? This week on Bottoms Up!, Alan and Lee are joined by fashion icon, pop star and all-round national treasure Frankie Bridge for our long-awaited fashion episode.
Alan hits the runway to showcase his favourite wine accessories and statement pieces - including a beach bag that doubles as a wine cooler and a bra that’s perfect for sneaking a drink into your favourite festival.
The trio taste a Côtes de Provence from a vineyard owned by Chanel, before pouring it from a very special decanter…
They chat fashion shows, hangovers, what’s hot this summer, Frankie’s shifts down The Sugar Hut and her former life as a pop star. And, of course, Lee asks the question that’s been on everyone’s lips… will The Saturdays ever reunite?
