In short

Alan Carr and Lee Peart chat with comedian/TV personality Judy Love over drinks (including overproof Ray and Nephew rum, cranberry/tropical mixer, and a Riesling). They trade stories about events, moving house, noisy neighbors/baby teething, and “celebrity sabotage” on ITV’s Palooza. Judy discusses her All About the Love tour (managing guilt, pressure, aging, motherhood, and learning to drop the ball), her working-class/social-work background, and her honorary doctorate from the University of East London. They also discuss her podcast Our Table and her upcoming Christmas single/“Betrayed.”

Guests

Judy Love (UK comedian; Loose Women panelist; on tour with All About the Love; former social worker/child carer; honorary doctorate UEL). Alan Carr and Lee Peart are hosts.

Key claims

Judy says celebrity scrutiny creates new “triggers,” and that caring for others can become self-neglect; she frames her tour as emotional learning and empathy. She describes Palooza as a basement “fake TV shows” sabotage format.

Notable examples

tuk-tuk Uber stories; moving-house “dong”/photo mishaps; Palooza sabotage (e.g., swapping salt/sugar in a “bake” challenge); Judy’s “garden house”/council-garden anecdote; Riesling tasting notes (citrus/peach/lychee-like undertone).

1:44Alan Carr:Halfway through. Shit. I'm meant to be doing dry jam. Well, I'll tell you what, it was a dry jam, but in a different area, so let's never go there. Hello and welcome to Bottoms Up with me, Alan Carr, and Lee Peart. Yes, we're the reason the bottle never quite makes it to the rack. So pour yourself a large one and stick with us. And that is what I'm going to do today with our welcome drink, which is a little clue to the guest we've got today, Dr. Lusen. Dr. Hillary. No, not Dr. Hillary. Don't get excited. Manage your expectations. Okay, Doctor. She is a doctor. She's a doctor. And... Doctor Queen, medicine woman.

2:32Alan Carr:Stop guessing. We got Jane Seymour. Lucen. That's all I'm going to say. Oh, my God. And it's a Riesling, and I know for a fact that this lady loves a Riesling. Oh, really? Riesling, Riesling. Let's ask her when she comes on. How are you, babes? Now that's the kind of doctor I would meet up every week and check myself out. Yeah, you get an appointment. Your GP's like, no more. Buttons up. I've got a gripe, actually. I've got two gripes. All right. Doctor. Now you're just... Doctor, I've got this gripe all down one side. Yeah. So I went to an event yesterday. Oh, I love how you call Weight Watchers an event.

3:19Alan Carr:Oh, wow. Okay. He walked in today. I said, oh, he's being nice. He's in a good mood today. And then I sat down with Dr. Luson. He needs to be struck off. So I went to this showcase thing yesterday. It was like this red carpet event and I got an Uber there. Now, one thing I love in life is when you, you know when you book like a kind of Pavo Uber, like just Uber X, you know, your Toyota Prius turns up, fine, whatever. I'm not. Well, you're trying to be relatable now. and I know for a fact you came home from the pub in a tuk-tuk and they're expensive. Yes, I did do that. Yeah, they are. Because you live next door to me and I could hear, the venga boys are calling.

4:05Alan Carr:And I looked out the window and I said, oh my God, it's Leap here. Sweet dream. It's Leap here and Dr. Lucy. That was a long appointment. But they're expensive and they push the price up. It's a scam. Yeah, they do. Because we got in one once, didn't we? We were, we couldn't get a taxi and I thought I had£10 ,000 to spare. So we got a tuk-tuk for one mile. Yeah, and do you know what? Well, do you know what was bad on that? I decided halfway through that tuk-tuk, I said, let's go live on Instagram. That is never a good thing. I know. So the next morning I woke up, we had red teeth and we're going...

4:40Alan Carr:Because it's under that... It's like basically a sunbed with wheels, isn't it? It's that neon thing. I looked... Yeah, but you kept tapping him on the back like he was a horse. Giddy up. Anyway. I could have got a whip. I went to this event. I got, I won the Uber lottery. I got upgraded for free to an exec. So I'm in this event, I'm in this tinted window car. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tinted windows. Tinted windows, it's gorgeous. Rock up, right? I look out, all the paparazzi there. They're getting ready. They're getting ready. there's tinted windows they're like who is this i'm like oh my god i i'm like save your sd cards guys you are not gonna please i walked out lowered the cameras no way and their heads in shape i said hi guys and just walked through no no no listen i get it i understand it doesn't bother me because I'm like no and we had that lunch me you and Tom Allen didn't we and that Tom Allen treated us he did a lovely meal yeah now the food was delicious the location for me wasn't the best and I think I had a few wines and I did say we're eating on in a bus lane yeah yeah you did keep saying that to it because it was a lovely day it was so sunny I still want to sit in a bus lane I know you kept waving and I was like who is he waving at and I turned around there was a double-decker bus of people going, hi, Alan.

6:12Alan Carr:Yeah, I mean, what can I do? But we've got a shadow on me, Alan, with all the carbon monoxide from the exhaust pipes. We had a woman come up to us there as well. Alan, Tom's there, me. Oh, I know you, Alan, and I know you. I don't know you. I'm like, I don't know you either. And that's fine. I don't know why people... I don't know why she said that, but then she called Tom Alan Tom Holland. I know, yeah, she did. She did. So I think, yeah, I wouldn't worry. And we love Tom, but he's not Spider-Man. No, no. He does look a bit like a Teemu, Jason Statham. Oh, I'm sure he'll love that. And you're on the move, aren't you?

6:53Alan Carr:And I'm on the move. I've moved house. It's weird. I've moved into my own place. And I'm slightly concerned, though, because there's quite a lot of noise. I didn't realise this. There's a baby crying. quite a lot. I'm hoping it's just ill. No, no, no. No, as in... No, as in... No, I'm hoping it's like got a cold and it... Yes. I hope... Phew. I hope I've caught it on a bad day. Anecdote reversing. Yes, I hope it's just a slight 24-hour thing. Well, it's been going on for a few days, so I'm hoping it's just having a bit of a bad time and it's going to get over this. Teaving. That's what they do.

7:38Alan Carr:Teething. Yes, yes, I'm hoping it is. Teething. We're hoping it's teething. Oh, my gosh. So, yeah, and it's weird. I've got all my boxes still. I've got to find places for things. And you keep a load of crap, don't you? That's interesting because you don't realise what kind of crap you do accumulate because I'm at that stage now where I've had the people coming around to take the photos to put it on the website to sell. Oh, yeah, yeah. And then I went down and my friend went round there and I said, can you just make the place look tidy? Because I was away, you know, gigging and all that. And then she went, Alan, I've put the four-foot dong in the cupboard.

8:18Alan Carr:And I'm like, what? Back in the day, do you remember those wheeze when you go like that? You play tennis. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was going to be the voice of this one and it's like a massive dildo and it's got the thing in the end and it affects things on the screen. Like you hit people. It's like a sort of a saucy one. it was a massive dildo and I didn't get the job I said can I keep the dildo and the dildo's in the stand have you ever seen it it's a big thick one no I don't think I have yeah so she went oh I put that in the thing because I didn't when you get used to it you don't think do you that that could be a talking point yeah well I had people but I was a little bit I got had people pack it up for me I was a bit I it was so good and he was coming in going um would you like to keep this and it was like some random crap that I just didn't need.

9:08Alan Carr:And also I found a picture of me at the Titanic immersive exhibition with my friend and we're on the Titanic like that. Love it, original. Yeah. Thinking outside the box, I love it. No one's ever seen this before. Yeah, I was like, what should we do? Let's do it. You want to paint on that. Thank you. That's good. But I kept it. It was just a random crappy photo. And then she said to me about the dong, the dong, and she went, oh, you know, the teddy bear in the gimp mask. I've hidden that away. I'm like, you're making out I'm some pervert. Where did that come from? That was on the side, but I pick up crap, but I didn't realise that could have been in the photos.

9:46Alan Carr:Is there a paper trail of you saying, can I keep the dildo? I know, honestly. It's a talking boy, though. It is. Not if you get a burglar. You wear them that dong, they're dead. At least they'll die with a smile on their face. Listen, I think, talking of talking points, let's get someone on who is... Doctor, doctor! Is there a doctor in the house? Doctor Lucen! So I am so excited. She's a dear, dear friend of mine and yours, of course. And she's on. She's just excited. Do you want to say who it is? Yes. Shall we give clues? I'm just waiting for you two. Stand-up comedian. Loose woman. She is technically a doctor.

10:29Alan Carr:We'll get into that. That might have thrown it. What? Yeah, I'm not lying. Inspiration. Inspiration, yeah, she is. She's currently on tour. She's a dear friend. She's all about the love. Make some noise, please. Judy Lamb! Oh my goodness me! We've got two welcome drinks for anyone listening. Bye, Doctor. Bye, Doctor Luson. Surgery is closed. we're going to need a doctor after this oh okay what have you brought with you dudes well I was like listen you know me you love me so you're going to love what I love and I had to bring a little satin satin from Jamaica oh my god oh yeah so I just are you going to say what is it because I've got a feeling I know what this is because I think we need to be warmed up first before we get into the little wine tasting stuff I am your t-shirt right now really fear of God you should be are you ready for this are you ready I'm ready boy bring out the white rum it's Ray and Nephew oven proof yeah over proof over proof do not put do not put your white rum in the oven serving suggestion babes I've had this before I've had a punch before with this and I got hot face babe I had so much have you had a shot of it yeah okay so we're just gonna we're gonna liven up the plate Oh my God.

11:56Alan Carr:No, no, no. No, no, no. Can I just say something? Labyrinth of the place. I called Judy this week, last Saturday. Hi, babes. I'm probably not going to drink much on the podcast. I'm going to take it easy. In she comes with overproof white rum. I can smell it. I'm just... Are you a Gemini? Oh my gosh. How did you know? Hello. I'm not drinking. La, la, la, la. Let's be real. I even said, could you just ask Lee and Alan if we could have some non-alcoholic wine? And we stopped laughing and said... To be honest with you, I was supposed to have dry January. We're in raw straw April. I was with Judy a couple of years ago on the 7th of January, was it?

12:44Alan Carr:Yeah. She's drinking champagne halfway through. Shit. I'm meant to be doing dry Jan. Well, I'll tell you what, it was a dry jam, but in a different area. So let's never go there. All of a sudden, I'm not thirsty. I am. Drink up, guys. Take a little, look, dip your little watermelon. Oh, so is this what you serve it? So for anyone listening, we've got Ray and Nephew, we've got cranberry juice. Is there tropical juice in there as well? Yeah, a little tropical tea. Is that an, because listen, you're a loose woman. Is that true? Does cranberry soothe you downstairs? I have told. Do I need to speak to Dr.

13:21Alan Carr:Loosen? Well, I've been told that it's good for the little balance and stuff down there. So, yeah. I got told it doesn't cure, it prevents. Oh, what did you? Oh, really? Yeah, yeah. Oh, so you stuck... Oh, I like the way you stuck your... Oh, I stuck it straight in. Oh, you use it as a garnish. Cheers. Bottoms up. So glad to have you here, Judy. Oh, thank you for having me. I couldn't wait. I couldn't wait. Ready? Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Woo! Oh, it's nice. That's dangerous because it's fruity. You don't know you'll get in there. I think this is what we all taste like. Oh, do you think it's you and a drink?

13:57Yeah, yeah. It's all of us and a drink. Yeah, it is.

13:59Alan Carr:Which one am I then? Warm and fruity. Watermelon, the ice or the... Warm and fruity. Oh. Mmm. Listen, I've seen you and him in the back of a car many a time. Really? Yeah, yeah. If the Ubers are rocking, don't come a-knocking. No. We've got upgraded. with the old champagne after a gig glass of red yeah let me tell you something obviously like lee has done my it's been my tour warm-up guy you know my support act um and he's just absolutely fabulous and obviously i love him to pieces so we have a little wine down it's a little wine down session wine down literally yeah and a little little little singing ting as well sometimes Sometimes, so in the back of the car, we're like, you know what?

14:43Why don't we just have one or two or three or four or five?

14:46Alan Carr:Yeah. And you ended up doing a single together, didn't you?

14:53Alan Carr:Waiting to be released. Can we down, where can people download it, Alan? That exclusive is actually saved for the one show. So we can't talk about our single. And we might make it a Christmas special. Yes, yes. So basically, one of those days when we was driving back from the tour and we had one or two or three or five drinks, all of a sudden we decided that we were musicians and we had a hit track and then my son loves to do music. So he was in the back, what do we call it now, a garden house? Yes, or is it an annex? Is it an annex? I don't know. I said to someone the other day, it was an outhouse.

15:31And they went, no, darling, you don't call it an outhouse. I think they said it was Garden House. Oh, Garden House.

15:39Alan Carr:Conservatory. Something like that. Bunker? Bunker. We was outside. Wendy House. In an outside cupboard. Shed. Shed, yeah. And my son was like making some music and then we came in like, yeah, son, son, yeah. I think they're used to us. They are used to us. Well, he's done a funny impression, hasn't he? Yeah, yeah. Her son's so funny. He's got such a funny sense of humour. and he said, you and Lee, when you're together, all I hear is... He does say Uncle Lee. Uncle Lee. He goes, you and Uncle Lee, all I hear is babes. Babes. Babes. Babes. Babes. Babes. He didn't get it. You know what? We were sat there and we were like, oh my gosh, babes.

16:24It is true, isn't it?

16:25Alan Carr:We said so much with one word. One word. It was great. So he was outside making music and we burst in. Very theatrical. like we do and we was like we've got a song and he was like okay and then he put the mic on and before we knew it we made a hit wow well yeah we did that thing where you know when you've had drinks and we were sat there afterwards going babes this is it I know comedy we've got this and the thing is we was like I know comedy is our thing and that's doing good but you we just might be one of those people where it goes a different direction yeah I started to say to him, I can feel this.

17:04Alan Carr:Yeah. I feel it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The universe. Because I know he can sing. I've never heard you sing. Can you sing? I can, I can, I can. What was our song again? Betrayed. Betrayed. Betrayed. And then there's a bit where she, we're doing it and I'm like, I feel so betrayed. And then she, my favourite bit. Sing it, Lee. Anyway, you'll hear all of this on Christmas Day. On Christmas Day when it's at number one. And I think we will seriously release it. I think you should. I played it to him halfway through. He went, stop it. Do you know what I thought was so sweet? My son sat through the whole three-hour session.

17:42Three hours. Went back, edited it for us. He was like, go back, go back. This bit. Oh, yeah, yeah, let's do this bit again.

17:48Alan Carr:Bless his name. Yeah, I think we need a riff there. Yeah, a riff. And he went back and put the riff in. It was a lot. And we can download this on Spotify. Spotify and Apple and all that stuff. You can download it on Notify. Capple.

18:08Alan Carr:So we met in Loose Women, and I'm going to talk about your tour in a bit, but I will say, right, when you first came on Loose Women, and I used to do the warm-up, and I had a similar thing with Olivia Atwood, where you know where cats circle each other, and they're like, hmm, and I was like, she's funny, she is. Anyway, we became friends. No, but we were like... We do. And I remember... No, no, no. No, I pissed all over the floor. As we walked around... Betrayed. Betrayed. Don't, you can't afford the royalties. So, what's the opposite of an earworm? Get it out. And I remember you said to me, you said, I'm going to have you as my support on tour.

19:02Alan Carr:And I did that thing because we've all been in, we're all in showbiz, I guess, where people say things and you're like, yeah, yeah. You know when you go, oh, you know, we must go for coffee. And then you can hear, I'll never see you again. And it's like... It's the awkwardness of every time you bump into them. Oh my gosh, don't forget the coffee. You forgot a long time ago, bitch. Stop asking me. Yeah, yeah. Take my... I once heard. I once had someone going, oh, take my number. As they're walking into the lift and the lift is closing, they didn't even give me the zero. I was going to say, don't even start with the zero.

19:36I'm like, no.

19:39Alan Carr:So, and I did that thing where I was like, okay, yeah, yeah, she said it. But you were true to your word and you got me on your tour and it's been a real help. But how did you two meet? And you did my Palladium, which was beautiful. Oh my God, we'll talk about that because you've done Palladium, of course, haven't you? That's an amazing venue, isn't it? But I met Alan. I think I met Alan. We were like 8 out of 10 cats. Was it 8 out of 10? Or was it Wembley? I think I did this comic relief thing at Wembley. Yes, that was it. They just threw me on. They were like, we need a black woman. Hello. And a gay.

20:09Alan Carr:And a gay. Come on. Come on. One Asian man. Rubbish is there. I mean, rubbish is on everything. So they threw us in. And I was like, how the hell am I on this gig with like all of the top? UK and international like comedians it was an absolute so it was an honour obviously and you ripped the roof off they like it wasn't just tick box it was yeah no it was amazing but it was beautiful so being there that's the first time I think that was one of the first times yeah yeah yeah and then we've done panel shows together we did 8 out of 10 cats and we've gigged together and stuff like that you are so you are exactly how you are on TV there's no professionalism whatsoever

20:55You know, sometimes you're supposed to meet someone and they're like, actually, he talks like this. Oh, yeah, it was lovely meeting you, June. No, he's like, oh, June. I said, oh, God, it's exactly that. Yeah, it's like a character act.

21:07Alan Carr:Because I get that with people, like, people will be out and they'll go, is he like that at home? Like as if I'm some rescue dog that's chewed through some slippers. I'm not going to lie, someone who was driving me the other day said, that Alan Carr what's he like I said he's the same message he's on TV when he's I said he's absolutely lovely he's a treasure they were like you know what a lot of people they must be obsessed with you because he said to me a lot of people I've asked about him they've said the same thing so I said why are you asking me again then he's trying to find yeah I've got some awesome I was like he is absolutely exactly what he is oh that's really sweet he hates any form of compliment Babe, take it!

21:48Alan Carr:No, I can't. Why not? I can't, I don't know. Well, just take it. I'll show you the ropes. Someone who can take a compliment is Jude. Yeah, we'll try. I was the same. I was very much, you know, didn't like to hear anything. Too good, made me feel too nervous. But I think that was my own insecurities. But when did that change? I mean, it changed when you realise, like, this is it. Like, this is the life we have. This is the body we have. these eyes are big for this particular reason my voice is the way it is like this is it we can't go back and we don't know what's going to come forward so let me embrace it and just use all the gifts that I have what God's given me yeah this body obviously the belly oh God you're smashing it at the gym at the minute I'm trying to it's been really hard the last two weeks I've been really busy but I just got into a space of like it's more about health than anything else But all the bits that I didn't like, I'm like, these bits gave me two beautiful children.

22:49I get to travel around the UK, even internationally doing something that I love. And trust me, when that husband comes, it's going to be used even more.

23:00Alan Carr:Oh my God, are you on the app? You know, I don't really talk about dating too tough, but I will tell you this. One time I went on the app a couple of years ago and it's supposed to be one of these exclusive. Oh yes, I think I know the one you mean. Oh, my God, if you're watching, right? It's supposed to be one of these exclusive for, you know, people, you know, in the industry and whatever. And two twos, I blinked, and it was in the papers. And they said no one can't screenshot it, but someone had obviously taken a picture of it with the other phone. Oh, no! Yeah. Just had a break-up. Oh, I'm talking too much.

23:32This rum is dangerous.

23:39Alan Carr:Some people are telling me you're pinned next. Betrayed! Betrayed! We'll be back in zingers. Betrayed! Betrayed! So you were betrayed. I was betrayed! Oh no! Babes! Babes! He's in the babes crew. Who would be your time? What's your fantasy? Like a fireman? I don't know. A man that can fix a door. I'm a 45 woman, yeah? I'm a 45 single woman. and I own my own house, I need a fella, right? A DIY man. If he sees a chip on that wall, he's out there painting it. Do you get what I'm saying? A chip? What, like a potato chip? No, like the paint's chipping or I need, I want a new kitchen. He could be a lawyer, but he could do a kitchen if he needed to.

24:29I remember my ex, right, one time, he was at my old house, right, and the light had gone and my house was like a council property and so one of these lights, you usually have to call them out to fix this light. He knew how to fix it. Oh, he climbed up on that bath. Oh, when he climbed on that bath and he had the screwdriver in his pocket, I said, anywhere, anyhow, you can have me. Wow, wow.

24:57Alan Carr:I mean, the bar is low, isn't it?

25:02Alan Carr:This segment is brought to you by Tilda Rice. Oh, Lee, cooking dinner. It's hard for me. It's hard. You know I'm not a very good cook. Well, it's effort as well, isn't it? I know. And here on Bottoms Up, we've got the luxury of a chef. He comes in and brings us delicious, perfect pairings. I get home, I get me wok out, I open me recipe book. It's carnage. You know what? I've got a solution for you, babes. What? Tilda rice, OK? Because with Tilda, they make it easy. There is a rice for every occasion, all right? So you can perfectly pair it with whatever you're fancying. Today, I was craving a little bit of salmon, and we've gone for a Japanese teriyaki salmon paired with Tilda sticky rice.

25:47Alan Carr:How do you make rice sticky? I know. Well, it's tricky. It's tricky to get sticky. Yes. Well, that's... Yes. Well, it's not with Tilda, actually, because it's simple, and it's ready in 90 seconds. So sticky's not tricky with Tilda? Are you taking the mickey? And I'm back on the gym bandwagon, so I could go for brown rice after a workout, source of fibre there, or chicken and rice for the bank holiday. Wild rice salad for the barbecue. You're learning quickly. And also if you want to do an easy lunch or a quick dinner or even a fake away. You can put care into every meal and Tilda is the perfect pairing to do exactly that.

26:28Alan Carr:We've over 25 different pre-steamed rice pouches ready in just two minutes. Whether it's pure basmati, pilau, golden vegetable. Peri-peri, Caribbean rice and peas and spicy Mexican. You will never run out of dinner ideas. Less guesswork, more flavour. We love it. Live like you mean it with Tilda Rice. Aw, bottoms up. 28:18Alan Carr:Bottoms up. You're on tour. So we talked about earlier the One Light Judy Love Tour. Now you're on your second national tour. All about the love. All about the love. Talk to us. What's it about? For people who haven't seen it already, because you're kind of halfway through the tour, aren't you? Yeah, I am halfway through. I've just got to say, Apollo is sold out now, the London show. Thank you very much. We might have some more. Oh. Because that's another iconic location, and I think when you... I've never done that. I'd love to do that. You see, when you do stand up, and I know how buzzing he was when he did the Palladium.

28:52Alan Carr:I mean, that was a real pinch-free moment for you, wasn't it? But there are these locations from East Palladium and the Apollo when you do that because you've been street. Bowie, Beatles, Rolling Stones. It's insane. It's insane. So All About the Love is a little bit more into me, about me, in regards to, like, managing this change in life. I think it's a bit more personal, isn't it? A bit more personal, a bit more about being of this age, being a mum. like all the normal stuff relationship and stuff but actually how how you handle pressure and how guilt and change can bring out all these different emotions in you but how you handle it and sometimes it's kind of okay to mess up and i you know i think for us in the public eye people see us in one way and actually we're still human and normal and we're still learning we're still learning that's what it is we're still learning so it's like i'm on a journey of learning and carrying everything and sometimes the ball might drop.

29:51And what I'm saying to everybody, is this okay? I can drop the ball, you can drop the ball. Let's still kind of have love and empathy for everyone, but also for ourself. So you're going to see all about me.

30:01Alan Carr:And I think with celebrity, you get the whole, you get these weird comments like, you should know better. And you're like, why should I know better? No one gives you a manual. You are feeling your way through this whole jungle of bloody criticism, comments, love. And under a microscope often when you're celebrities. And especially if you haven't been in entertainment for long. And I'll give you a little preview. One of the things I say is all of a sudden you learn new triggers. So most of the time I grew up in social housing, when I was younger, I lived with my mum and she had a property, but she was sick and whatnot and things had to change.

30:40She needed care and so on. So when I moved into my new house, it was like something was wrong, like with the garden and I was ready to call the council and they were like you own your property bitch you gotta pay for that shit yourself and then it was like and then it's wrong we can't

30:59Alan Carr:deal with your garden house Judy that's up to you what did you say betrayed betrayed it was insane and then as well like where I live and my neighbors before were nice but where I the neighbours, they knock all the time. So when the doors used to, when I first moved in, the doors used to knock, I used to be like, shh. Where is it? Where is it? Is it TV licence?

31:27I'm like, turn off the TV. And my kids are like, mum, you're on the TV.

31:32Alan Carr:We're OK now.

31:37And I'm like, oh, yeah, oh, yeah, yeah. It's one of that, especially coming from, do you know what I mean, coming from working class.

31:44Alan Carr:Yes, of course, yes. It's like, you know, so it's, and also there's a feeling, it's sad to say, a feeling of like, I don't know if it's guilt or like you feel bad to be like wanting something more or changing, you know, you get that thing, oh, you've changed. It's not that you've changed, it's got new experiences. Yes. And I'm still very much who I am at the core of me. Yeah. And so my inner circle know that. I don't give a damn how much TV I have done. If my brethren or people that I know, my brethren are sick, I'm coming to your house in a headscarf with some chicken soup and we've got to do what we've got to do.

32:22Do you get what I'm saying? Like, it's not...

32:24Alan Carr:But that is because people might not know that before you got into comedy, you were a social worker. Yes. And that's, you know, and that's the kind of essence of you, I think. You're such a, you're a solver, you're a helper, you rescue and you nurture as well. And sometimes to the detriment of my own self, if I'm honest. Do you know what I mean? I have a, I was a social worker, I worked in social care, I was a child carer. So my initial first thought is to care. And what I'm realising, you have to protect that. Because some people see that from afar. So I will care for everybody else before I even care for myself.

33:02I could be exhausted. And there will be people who take advantage of that. So now I'm at that stage where I'm like, no. And that's taken me a little while. Like, no, sorry, no, sorry. And it's a really hard thing to balance. So in a nutshell, all about love is about everything. Yeah. Everything. It's just about managing your emotions and that it's okay. A lot of juice, a lot of fun. And I'm in my, I don't know, I'm in my like, this is me. I won't tell you the slogan.

33:32Alan Carr:For those listening, Judy is miming a lasso kind of... Yeah, I mean, this kind of... Reverse cowgirl? Reverse cowgirl. Yeah, for those of you listening, Judy's doing the reverse cowgirl. Would like to. Yeah, I'm in this kind of like... On Lee, she's doing it on Lee, if you're listening. With rum. She hasn't dropped the Dr. Lucent. She's still got that in her hand. Where's the doctor thing from? Oh, the doctor thing is I got honorary doctorate from the University of East London for my contributions to arts. Oh, that's amazing. That was, I mean, when the letter, my manager sent it to me and I don't know if they exactly knew what it was.

34:14And so I read it and I was like, what? No, no, I must be reading. And I said, do you understand what this is? And they were like, yeah, I think they want to give you some award. I was like, no, they want to give me a doctorate. And it's a university that I went to, especially being someone who was dyslexic. it meant so much to me um and when i went to uni i was a single parent i was also caring for my mom at first and then she passed away unfortunately as i started to do uni and i was pregnant so it holds so much grounds for a lot of for me it's not for me but a lot of people from the from any community that has faced adversities and then was told that they couldn't elevate their life yeah You know, like you can.

34:53And that was before getting into entertainment. So for me, that award was for all the other people that see something in me that they connect with.

35:00Alan Carr:Yeah. You know, whether that is you being a single parent, whether that's you being working class, whether that's you being a black woman, like whatever it is, from east to south, like whatever you see in me that you feel like you connect with, that award was for them. Yeah. Oh, I know. Always crying. I know, I know. Let me add to that. And my parents came over here in the Windrush. You know, they came in the Windrush era. where I'm just trying to make him cry more. And my parents were on a boat. Right. Now I'm crying. Right, Judes. We are, this is obviously a wine podcast. It's a drinks podcast and we've got our lovely drinks.

35:34Alan Carr:So we're going to bring your wine up in a bit. But before we do that, I want to talk to you. Well, we've got two things more to talk to you about. Celebrity sabotage. I did ITV's Palooza. You know, we all went there. Oh, yeah. And it showed all the stuff that was coming up, dramas and stuff. Celebrity sabotage. Everyone was pissing themselves. The reaction, I've never heard a roar like it. It's just so funny. And what an ingenious thing. It's so funny. It's insane. For people who haven't seen it already, what is it? So there's like myself, there's Joel Domi, there's Sam Thompson, and then there's GK Baring.

36:15And we're in this house, but we're in the basement. And basically there's like these TV shows that are made up. You know, like The Apprentice, but it's called Sutton Murs. Don't ask me what, because we're two rums in. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But we make up these shows and then they come in and we've got to sabotage them. So like the one where...

36:33Alan Carr:And the funny thing is, TV now is so mental and crazy with the ideas. Some of these could be actual shows. Could be. They could be. We had like a best couple show. We had like the best dog show. We had this SOS kind of show. It was insane. It was absolutely insane. And these people coming here really, really wanting to win this. But they're coming from their heart not to win no money because there's no money in the show that they think. And so we try to sabotage them. So say, for example, we had a Bake Off one. Oh, I absolutely love this one. It wasn't Bake Off, but it was called The Special Bake or whatever it was called, right?

37:07And then I was the host. I just channeled in my Alison Hammond. I was great. Love her for that. And I was the host. So they had to make, like, bread or something. And then I actually, like, we swapped the salt, sugar for the salt. so things like that and every time we were successful we earned their money

37:25Alan Carr:because you can't get the celebrity you, Sam, Joel and GK you can't get caught we can't but if we do get caught which you've seen on some of the episodes then we have to say to that person this is what we're doing do you want to be on the insider or do you want to leave and they've decided to be on the insider of course you would I mean it's absolutely crazy there was the one that came out a few weeks ago I nearly lost my hair What happened? What didn't happen? Is that where you came in like Frazzled? Watch that episode Half an hour before My hairline was hair When I came in It was back there It was running away from me What was so funny Joel didn't know how to say it But he looked at me You know when someone's looking at you But they're looking at a different particular spot and he was like, I don't know what it is, but you look different.

38:21My forehead's grown an inch.

38:24Alan Carr:That's what's happened. I don't know what it is, but you look different. They had me running. I could hear my... I could hear my... SOS. I was in the... I was on the floor like a bush. I was like, what has happened to my life? I love Joel navigating that. Do you remember when we were together and you were putting cream on your legs? Yeah, yeah. She's creaming your legs and she goes to me. Judy goes, are my legs dry? Well, I assumed that meant has the cream she has just applied to her leg dried. And I went, yeah, your legs are dry. What?

39:05The black people in the room behind the camera are laughing the hardest. They know what this means.

39:11Alan Carr:I went, they're dry. I said, they're dry. I went, you never say that to a black woman. I was like, what's going on?

39:25That day, he learned. I was like, I swear, I'm going into every TV channel saying, I feel there should be a creaming consultant person on set.

39:36Alan Carr:It's very important. You've got a little diversity box. Tick that box, bitch. Bring someone in who can check my skin before I go on that camera. Like an intimacy coordinator. Yeah, let's have a creaming coordinator. Creaming coordinator. Walking around, checking all the black people's ankles and the phone off their fingers. This is important shit. And we're delighted to have you around our table right now. Yes. I want to talk to you about your table, our table with Judy Love. I'm all about the segues today. What does this rum do today? You're being really professional today. I can't believe it.

40:09Alan Carr:I'm shocked as you are. Honestly, this rum is dangerous. You have kids who get your mortgage paid off by somebody. um so our table yeah yeah so our table with judy love your podcast so you released this was it last year last year yeah and i will just say season two is on its way exciting we've had some beautiful guests and it's really a mixed blend of different artists um with actors singers producers um and with a blend of beautiful Caribbean fine dining food. And I think it's not often that, you know, particular people sit in a room together. Usually, you know, if you're being interviewed, it's like actors and comedians, but you don't really see the ones behind or artists to a certain extent or writers.

40:54So it's a mixed bag and it's absolutely amazing. Well, I watched series one

41:00Alan Carr:and I thought it felt like a dinner party. Yeah. When you invite loads of different new friends, some of them haven't met each other before, You're all kind of in similar realms because the common denominator is you and you know them all, but it felt like you're bringing people together. And I really like the premise of which you've always championed where you say, you know, if you can't get a seat at the table, make your own table. Yeah. You know, and the amazing guests that we have on are, you know, definitely from a diverse background in regards to where they're from or the artistry that they're in or the life that they've lived.

41:32And I think it's really important that these voices are heard because I think, unfortunately, the world likes us to think that if we don't look the same, we haven't got nothing in common. And thankfully now we're getting so integrated internationally. And that's the same when it comes to culture, sexuality or even age. But thanks now because we have so much, you know, connection internationally. We've got social media. We're realising like us three sitting here. Yeah. We connect. and so that's why I hope that our table shows everybody they might not look like you or they might have not had the same experience as you but there's something that you can connect with

42:08Alan Carr:on some kind of level great conversation great conversation great swapping ideas swapping inspiration and that's what it's all about my team makes me look good you know so yeah I'm sorry I wasn't supposed to say that loud that was in my head but yeah it's absolutely it's a I'm you know I'll say it's a really great show and I'm really looking forward to this season yeah when does it come out or do we not know yet we don't know yet hopefully end of May okay keep an eye out right Judy we can't have you here without doing a little bit of wine and we've got we've got I'm going to swap in this cheers I'm blowing my bloody head off I know I know babes can I say I went to carnival last year and I cooked rice and peas oven chicken Tilda rice and beef that's our sponsor Tilda rice and beef it was Tilda that I made with the rice and peas.

42:57It was. And I cooked rice and peas and I cooked oven chicken and I cooked macaroni and cheese and I made us all eat before we went carnival and this was like at 11.30. And then this little beast here, I filled up like a little bottle with this, a little bit of canberry juice and I realised when I came home at 4am I hadn't eaten for 14 hours.

43:16Alan Carr:And how were you the next day? That's like a Zen pick in a bottle. Yeah, I survived on this. Please always remember to drink responsibly. Please, at Notting Hill Carnival. Please inject responsibly. How was I in the morning? Should I tell you how I was? My friend was sending me a video and a picture of me doing the splits on the kitchen counter. So I was all right. Oh, my God, you did the splits. On the kitchen counter. Wow. That's Cirque du Soleil shit. Cirque du Soleil this. Yeah, yeah.

43:47I couldn't believe it. I said, when did I get up there, girl?

43:52Alan Carr:I hate that. You know when you get too pissed and people show you what you did in the night? It's like, is this CGI? Is this AI? Yeah, it's like, no, it was me. J.I. That's what it was. J.I. We've got to go carnival together. Yeah, I live from there. I can get you on a float. I want to be on the float. You want to be on a float? Let me see a waist. Let me see a waist. Let me see a waist. Ding, ding, ding. Whoa, ding-a-ling-a-ling. Oh, hello. Oh, no, I think I need to know. You've got a face. Can I do one and a two and a three Macarena? That's the wrong culture. Cancel. Hopefully. We all kind of music, but not necessarily.

44:35Cha-cha Slice. No, no. It's more like, rock up your mumbo, rock up your mumbo. You're about to rock it up. You know, isn't it so different?

44:41Alan Carr:Because that is so much more fun. What do white people have? We have, oh, the okey-cokey. Or Morris dancing. But we love it. Come on. If you hear that, we do. Now, who taught me to do the Dutty Wine? Who? Rihanna. Oh, there we go. I'm Shetty Man. Rihanna. That's the butterfly. Oh, my God. Dutty Wine. Show us the caterpillar. Wait, let me see the Dutty Wine. You're not seeing my caterpillar. Not again. Let me see the Dutty Wine. Let me see the Dutty Wine. No, no, no. The Dutty Wine is this. Yeah, yeah. We're going carnival together. Yeah. Dr. Lucent. It's on his neck It's on my neck I love carnival It's not going to be like Hey call me, call me Are we going to do carnival?

45:26We're going to go on a float We're going to be on ITV 6 o 'clock We live in the area I've got a bloody cum in my backyard Yeah and then I'll cook food Yes Oh my god Let's have our own front yard party At carnival Yes yes yes Yeah let's talk this out We get flyers We get everything We get lots of equipment to help us Get batty riders Batty riders I've been going to gym I'm ready for this Yeah So we're going to do carnival together.

45:49Alan Carr:Batsy Ryder means something very different in the gay community.

45:58Really?

46:00Alan Carr:I don't know. Anyway. Let's move on. Is it bottoms up?

46:15Alan Carr:Okay. Reset, please. For anyone who's still listening, why?

46:23Alan Carr:Wine, more like. Okay, so talk to us. How many wines are we tasting? Just this one. Thank God. I hate that rum. No more. No, this is fine. I like this. I don't usually go for a Riesling. And it's got... So tell us why you... Is this your favourite type of wine? Because you do like a rosé champagne. I do like a rosé champagne. Yeah. However, I said this the other day on the show I was on, it's Jane Moore. Oh? That's actually moved me over to this. Really? Jane Moore. A few months back, maybe a year or so, I was out with Jane Moore after the swimming, and was having a few drinks. She likes wine, doesn't she?

47:02Yeah, and we had this nice wine, and it was so light, bounce on the tongue, a little bit of spice in it, but it was delicate, a little bit, you know, coming through. And I was like, what's this? And she said, it's a Riesling. Is that how you say it? Yeah, a Riesling. We don't know if Riesling or Riesling. Oh, Riesling. Listen, whatever it is. Yeah. I took a picture of it and I went to my local wine shop. Oh. Yeah, which I absolutely love. Shout out. And they introduced me, showed me what it was, and I was like, this is...

47:31Alan Carr:Because I hate the clack. This has got no clack, has it? Oh. It's nice, isn't it? Oh, this is not... This is a Dr. Lucen Erziger Versgarten Riesling Cabernet. Is it German or...? I think so. Yeah. There's another that's just kind of closest, but it's a little bit more sweet. Could be a dessert wine. It's got a little bit of a lychee aftertaste. Lychee? Do you like a lychee martini? I do. But when you get the nice wine, which is like, if you can't get the rice, then there's another one. I can't remember what it's called. It begins with G, and it's usually from Austria. It's got a nice little lychee undertone, and it's got a slight bit of like a little spice, but it's usually like white pepper.

48:11And it just bounces on your tongue.

48:13Alan Carr:Yeah, well, it says here we've got citrus nose, orange blossom and light herbs. The palette is juicy citrus, peach pear, so that's a similar term. Peach is what I said. Yeah. Slight tropical hint, light bodied, off dry, high acidity with a slight spicy edge, which is where you get. So carnival etiquette, would we not, when you come to my house, seriously, would we go straight on the rum or would we open the Dr. Lucent? We are a little bit bougie. Let's just say it, Harry. There's nothing wrong with that. No, I think we should embrace that. Yeah, I think we should embrace it. Do you know what I mean?

48:46Alan Carr:So what, should I get some champagne? A little bit of champagne. Or Prosecco? Oh, God, so, okay. Okay. And the thing is, even champagne now, the best isn't there. I've now moved to this. Because I feel it's lighter. Yeah. Digestive-wise, I feel like it's better for me. Yeah. And I think that we would start, when we start our bashment extravaganga, or whatever it's called, what's the word? Travaganza. What's Bashment? What is Bashment? Bashment is the music. Oh right, sorry. Yeah, so we have our little Bashment party at yours. He's doing the best out of all of us. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't even have an outdoor space.

49:26Alan Carr:Yeah. And when we use your... And you don't want to hear the baby crying. This is what I mean. So when we use yours... I'm doing the dutty one, I can hear... Mwah! Mwah! Shut up! She does a baby crying. Yeah, I do. Mwah! Oh my! I'm triggered. Oh my God, I'm milking.

50:02So, as I was saying, when we have this bashment, we're going to drink this as we jerk the chicken. So you're going to pair Dr. Lucent with the jerk chicken? We'll do some jerk fish, we'll do some jerk chicken. Nice. So it's before we get completely mash-up. Mash-up. So we'll drink this so it looks, this is, oh, hello, come here, yes, come here. Yes. And then we'll move straight on to the rum.

50:28Alan Carr:Yeah. And that's when we'll change clothes, the pum pum shorts will come out. Pum pum, batty riders. Batty riders, batty riders for you. Yeah, batty riders. It will come out and then we'll get into the rum and we'll be nice. but this is nicer when you're in your south-facing garden. I did pick well. Come on, south-facing garden. Judy, do you think you've changed?

50:57Alan Carr:You're adaptable. Adaptable. Yes, yes. Listen, can I just say? It's so nice. This is a beautiful pick. I'm just going to put this in my bag. Yeah, you can have it. Thank you so much. With your rum. Like, literally, it's in my back. Thank you. Have I changed shit?

51:21You know what? Is there any more? I'm going to take the hand soap as well. I mean, yeah, this is beautiful. It's absolutely fantastic. If they want to sponsor me, I'm here for it.

This week on Bottoms Up! Alan Carr and Lee Peart catch up over a bottle of Riesling as they reminisce about a very expensive tuk-tuk ride that ended in a drunken livestream - complete with red wine-stained teeth.

The pair recap a disappointing lunch with mutual friend Tom Allen, while Lee shares what he’s discovered since finally moving into his own flat… namely that the walls are VERY thin and absolutely everything can be heard.

Joining the boys this week is comedian Judi Love, who arrives with a bottle guaranteed to blow their socks off. She chats about her favourite wine, her brand-new stand-up tour and TV show Celebrity Sabotage. The trio discuss Notting Hill Carnival, Pum Pum shorts and Batty Riders, and Judi reveals why she’s officially a doctor.
