In short

“Seasons of Entrepreneurship Harnessing Renewal for Your Next Big Leap” argues that entrepreneurial success follows natural cycles—growth (spring/summer), rest, and renewal (autumn/winter)—and that pushing nonstop causes burnout, creative blocks, and stalled growth. It teaches how to recognize renewal and use it strategically to prepare for the next push.

Guest backgrounds

No guests mentioned; the host, Jeannette Linford, speaks from direct experience.

Key claims

Renewal is not failure; it’s a signal to pause for reflection, clarity, re-energizing, and planning. Working against your cycle leads to overwhelm and exhaustion.

Notable examples

The host describes launching a major project for months, expecting “spring” but feeling drained and realizing she was in “winter.” Renewal tactics include intentional breaks/mini retreats, outsourcing draining tasks (e.g., social media scheduling), journaling lessons from the last growth phase, and learning/creative activities during the pause.

0:01Here are four powerful ways that I've used to make the most of this essential time.

0:10Welcome to Brave Bold Brilliant. I am your host Jeannette Linford and it is great to have you back here with us on Brave Bold Brilliant. So I am absolutely thrilled that you're here because today we are talking about a really important topic. One which I have learned from direct experience myself. And it's really about the seasons of entrepreneurship. You know, and I remember a time when I had actually just launched this huge project. And we've been it been consuming me for absolutely months and months and months. And when we got to that point, you would think that I would be celebrating, wouldn't you?

0:48And absolutely, you know, full of the joys of spring. But instead, all I felt was this sense of absolute overwhelm. I was just exhausted. My body, my mind was screaming for a break. And, you know, I wanted to keep pushing forward. But the simple truth was I was just completely drained. And it was in that moment that I had this really profound realisation. I was fighting against my own natural cycle. You know, I was in a winter, but I was trying to force a spring. So what if I told you your business life, your entrepreneurial work situation follows the same rhythm as nature It has seasons of growth, rest, renewal And the secret to sustainable success isn't to just push on non-stop But to embrace each of those phases fully So today we are going to explore the seasons of leadership The seasons of entrepreneurship and how to recognize when you're in a season of renewal and why leaning into that time of pause and restoration is absolutely the key to making your next big leap.

1:54But before we dive in, I would love to hear from you. Type in the chat, send us a message. What season do you feel you are in right now? Are you in a growth, rest or renewal phase? And I'd love to be able to open up a conversation about this with you because I think it's by sharing our experiences that we really help each other learn and grow and of course what I would say if you are not subscribed to Brave Bold Brilliant on the podcast if you're listening you know on Apple podcast or on Spotify please do hit the subscribe button because then you're going to get notified when you we go live with a new episode the same goes for YouTube you might be watching this video on YouTube please hit that subscribe button it helps us reach more people and you will find me all over social media so let's get connected on social media linkedin facebook instagram janet linfoot two n's two t's and we have brave or brilliant pages where we share loads of useful content so let's support each other with our growth and be connected so grab a pen and paper because i'm going to go through quite a lot now.

3:02Part one, and this is really why seasons matter in business. And the reason why they matter is that most entrepreneurs feel this immense pressure to keep pushing. You were taught that the hustle 24-7 is the only path to success. But ignoring our natural cycles is the fastest way to hit a wall. You know, it really does lead to burnout, creative blocks, stalled growth. You know, so think about a marathon. A marathon runner, they don't just run a marathon every single day. They train, they push hard, but then they rest and recover. And without that recovery, their body would break down. Well, our businesses and our minds work in that exact same way.

3:49So seasons exist for a reason. Growth phases, your spring and summer, They demand energy and hustle. And this is a time for launching new products, bringing on new clients, expanding your team, perhaps. I've had seasons like this where the energy is just electric. You are full of ideas and everything feels like it's clicking into place. And I'm sure you've had ideas like that. But then you can also enter the rest and renewal phases, your autumn and winter. and these seasons aren't a sign of failure they're a necessity this is a time for pulling back for reflection and for gaining clarity and we need these periods to process you know what we've learned to re-energize and to prepare for the next big push so recognizing which season you're in lets you work with the rhythm of your business the rhythm of your work schedule not against it So let's just take a moment now to move into part two What are the signs you're in a season of renewal?

4:53So how do you know what season you're actually in? Well the signs are often subtle But once you know what to look for, like anything in life You can't unsee them So these aren't setbacks, they are signals So if you're feeling drained after a big launch or project It's more than just being tired. It's that, you know, it's that deep, heavy feeling where every small task, it feels like an absolute mountain. You know, you're staring at your to-do list and you just can't make a start. Your motivation dips. You crave creative inspiration. You know, and that fire that you used to have, the one that made you jump out of bed with new ideas, it just seems to flick it out.

5:35Right. And you might be working, but it feels more like you're just going through the motions. And you can often find yourself scrolling through social media, wishing you could be maybe feel inspired by someone else's work. You can often find yourself rethinking strategy or longing for a fresh perspective. And this is your intuition gently nudging you. It's a quiet whisper that says, hey, what you've been doing isn't working anymore. or is this still the right path for me? You're experiencing a slowdown in sales or growth that feels out of your control. And this can often be a tough one as we often see it as a failure.

6:15But what if it's simply the market or your business entering a natural period of rest? So these aren't red flags, they're green lights telling you to hit the pause button. So part three, how do you lean into renewal seasons? So once you recognize that you're in a season of renewal, how do you actually embrace it? Because it can really feel counterintuitive, especially if you're ambitious. But here are four powerful ways that I've used to make the most of this essential time. So, you know, schedule intentional breaks or mini retreats to recharge I'm about to go on holiday shortly now, actually And I know I am desperately in need of that break I recognise it in myself I'm really looking forward to it I'm tidying things up before I go away And I know that when I come back I'll be even more motivated to push on to the next level But I really need this season of renewal that I'm about to go into And it isn't a passive act.

7:24It is a strategic choice. Now, it might be something as simple as a long weekend or a week off. It even might be just around setting firmer boundaries to not work after a certain time of day. It could be about giving yourself permission to completely disconnect, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. You know, delegating or outsourcing more to lighten your load. Have a really good hard look at your to-do list and identify, you know, just a few tasks that drain your energy but are essential. And maybe you're spending hours on other things, social media scheduling. You know, what if you outsourced it for a month?

8:02So think about how much mental energy you'd get back to focus on that big picture stuff, the things you really should be focusing on And using the time to learn, plan, dream without the pressure to perform So it's not about hustling on a new course, it's about reading a book just for fun, listening to a podcast about a totally unrelated topic Or, I don't know, taking an art class if that's your thing You know, so these are the things that replenish your creative well and allow those new ideas to emerge. You know, another thing that's really worked for me, actually, is journaling or reflecting on lessons from the previous growth phase.

8:41You know, ask yourself, what were the biggest wins of my last season? What were the biggest lessons? How did I change and grow as a person? What brought me the most joy? What felt like a struggle? by reflecting on these questions you know you gain clarity and actually you avoid repeating those old patterns so you know this time isn't wasted it's actually an investment in your future growth so by doing this you're not just resting you're actually preparing for that next big leap which is you know hugely hugely important so part four of of this episode really is about the power of embracing the cycle of business leaders who learn to flow with these seasons and avoid burnout.

9:26They stay motivated and create stronger, more resilient businesses. And it's about understanding that sustainable success, it isn't a straight line. It's a cycle. It has ups and downs. It has rainy days and sunny days. And your ability to harness the seasons, it really does determine in how far you go. You know, you wouldn't plant a seed in winter and expect it to grow immediately, you know, and you can't push yourself endlessly and expect to thrive. It's the same thing. So, you know, I hope this has been absolutely useful for you. I would love to hear from you. You know, certainly we always like to be able to engage, support, grow.

10:09So again, you know, So let us know what season are you currently in? How do you usually handle slow or renewal periods? What's one way you can better embrace this season starting today? From the publisher

Jeannette discusses the "seasons of entrepreneurship," drawing a parallel between the natural cycles of nature and the business world. She shares a personal story of burnout and exhaustion after a big project, which led her to the realisation that constant hustle is not a sustainable path to success. Instead, she advocates for recognising and embracing different seasons—growth (spring/summer) and rest/renewal (autumn/winter)—as essential for long-term health and growth

You'll hear why:

Ignoring the need for rest can lead to burnout, creative blocks, and stalled growth, much like a marathon runner who doesn't recover

A sense of feeling drained, a lack of motivation, creative inspiration drying up, and a feeling of just "going through the motions" are all subtle indicators that you may be in a season of renewal

To lean into a renewal season, you can schedule intentional breaks, delegate tasks that drain your energy, use the time for learning and planning without pressure to perform

Sustainable success is not a straight line but a cycle of growth and rest.

By embracing these seasons, entrepreneurs can avoid burnout, stay motivated, and build stronger, more resilient businesses.
