0:08Now, the reality is comfort has become the most dangerous place in business. Not failure, not competition, not even economic uncertainty, you know, but actually comfort. Because this year businesses absolutely they aren't collapsing overnight you know but leaders are actually becoming irrelevant in a very quiet way and this isn't because they lack intelligence but actually because they stopped evolving and today I want to talk to you about why this decade will absolutely eliminate comfortable leaders and what you must do in order to stay ahead of it. Now, after 30 years in business, 25 of that in the corporate space, I absolutely know this from first hand.

1:02It can be brutal. One day your face fits, the next it doesn't. And actually, when I mentor people in the corporate world, it's often around where they're in one role, exit, and then into another role. So the reality is that success hides stagnation. Now, the most dangerous phase of leadership is not struggle, it's stability. Because when revenue is consistent, when the team is functioning well, when clients are steady, when growth is fine, fine is lethal. Good is the enemy of great. So because comfort slows urgency, you stop questioning your assumptions. You start, you know, you actually stop seeking uncomfortable feedback.

1:47You stop challenging your own thinking. You become very institutionalized in the corporate world very often or in a sort of mid-sized business that you might be in. So you actually stop challenging yourself. And over time, you become excellent at managing what exists but not creating what's next. You know, markets are evolving faster than ever. technology, in particular AI, is totally, totally turning industries on its head. Consumer behaviour shifting faster than ever. You know, if you're thinking in the same way as it was three years ago, even 12 months ago, even six months ago, you're already behind.

2:27So I'm not saying this to frighten you, but I have just seen it time and time again where people get complacent in their jobs, they get complacent in their positions. And most leaders, you don't notice this until momentum has already shifted and then it can be a real shock all of a sudden there's a conversation about thank you very much for your time but actually we no longer require your services so the new leadership standard that you need to absolutely build on now is the model that businesses 10 years ago actually knowing that they don't work the same way anymore so before we continue i want to speak directly to those of you who are listening and thinking i know i'm capable of more but i need structure i need some help because here's what i've actually learned after gosh more than three decades in business you know ambition without clarity creates frustration.

3:25And motivation without structure, it really does fade very, very fast. So that's exactly why we created Rise Academy. And Rise Academy, it's not theory. It isn't fluffy motivation, although you will be motivated. And it certainly isn't another online course that you never finish. It's actually a fully structured growth environment for ambitious entrepreneurs, leaders and founders who absolutely are ready to do all of these things, sharpen their strategy, elevate their leadership, increase revenue with intention and build businesses that actually support the life that they want. And inside Rise Academy, we focus on the foundations most people skip, leading yourself, leading your teams and leading the business.

4:15It's about clarity, standards, decision making, commercial intelligence and execution. Because scaling, it really isn't about doing more. It's actually about doing the right things and doing the things right consistently. So if you're serious about stepping up into your next level of your leadership, your business life, and not just consuming content, but actually implementing it, then Rise Academy was absolutely built for you. So you can find all the details on our website, go to www.brave-bold-brilliant.com. And now, let's get back to the show.

5:00Today's leaders, you know, as a leader, you've got to be strategically agile. The world is moving fast. You know, technology is absolutely critical. You can't afford to leave tech to the digital team. It's everyone needs to know. Emotional intelligence, you know, creating a culture, being decisive under uncertainty. You know, you're no longer just a decision maker. You're actually a signal setter. You know, your mindset shapes culture. You cannot afford to stand still as a leader. And let me tell you, I've seen it so many times. Your energy absolutely shapes your performance. your curiosity shapes your innovation and here's the really uncomfortable truth and that but i'm going to tell you anyway the market does not reward past successes it rewards current relevance and if you're relying on your reputation alone you're in a very dangerous place so i don't want to be a scaremonger but i do want you to make sure that you continue to be an absolutely top leader that's continuing to grow.

6:08So AI won't replace leaders. Stagnation will. But AI is definitely shifting the game very, very fast, right? But there's a lot of fear around that. It's time to actually embrace that as an opportunity. Automation, digital acceleration. But technology is not replacing leaders. It really isn't. But you've got to be relevant. Complacency is what's replacing leaders. and leaders who refuse to learn, who dismiss change, maybe leaders who say, we've always done it this way or we tried that before. Does that sound familiar to you? You know, those are the ones at risk. And you don't need to be a tech expert, but you do need to know enough and have enough knowledge so that you are strategically curious and you're able to identify when you need to make these changes.

6:57So ask, you know, how does this change our model? How does this increase efficiency? How does this reshape the customer expectation? Because ignoring innovation, you know, it doesn't protect you. It actually isolates you. It makes you obsolete very, very fast. Do not be a Kodak of a leader. Kodak disappeared overnight. And isolated leaders make outdated decisions. So let's get into about personal reinvention, because we always, as most powerful leaders, they reinvent themselves all the time. Every six months, every 12 months, every 24 months, you know, not reactively, but intentionally. They upgrade, upgrade their network, their advisory circle, their skill set, their thinking exposure, their identity.

7:49You know, and I've reinvented myself multiple times through my career, you know, transitioning from being a corporate CEO in multiple different businesses to actually being a business owner and an investor and an advisor. You know, so those leaders that reinvent themselves, they don't wait for a crisis. They initiate growth. And here's the hard question for you as a leader. When was the last time you felt uncomfortable in your own development? And I bet it's been a while, I'm assuming. but I could be wrong. If I'm wrong, fabulous. But if you can't remember, you actually may be coasting. And reinvention is not about abandoning who you are.

8:26You are the same person, but it's about expanding who you must become to lead at the next level so that you stay relevant in today's world, especially in the corporate world, or especially if you're in a mid-sized business that's growing. So there are three questions that will reveal complacency. So if you're unsure where the comfort is creeping in, I want you to ask yourself, number one, what skills am I currently avoiding learning? It may be AI. That's what I'm seeing a lot at the moment. The thing you may resist could be the thing, put my teeth back in, that actually future-proofs you. Secondly, what difficult conversation have I postponed?

9:11Leadership requires courage, you know, but it can erode quietly when avoidance becomes a habit. We're all guilty of putting off difficult conversations, but we need to have them in the right way. The third question for you to ask yourself, what identity am I protecting? Are you holding on to maybe the perception that you're the expert, the visionary, the indispensable founder? founder because sometimes growth requires letting go of who you were known to be to actually become the business leader that you know you really need to be as you continue to grow and it's not easy but it's absolutely necessary and let me tell you I work with incredible business leaders both in the sort of entrepreneurial world but also the corporate world and I've got so many examples where I've started working with someone who is a very, very senior level of their executive career.

10:06World has shifted. All of a sudden, no longer in their role. And actually, I work with them on that career progression, that reinvention, to get them the next amazing job and to really am on board successfully in that new world of that great role they've taken. So the leaders who thrive this year will not necessarily be the most experienced. They're going to be the most adaptable. You know, they will challenge their own thinking before the market does. Change before you need to. I've always had that as a mantra in business and with my own leadership as well. You know, they'll disrupt their own comfort before competition forces it.

10:43And they will understand one fundamental truth. And that truth is this. Reinvention is not optional. all. So it's actually the cost of relevance. So do not let yourself get stuck in your comfort zone. Growth actually lives where we reinvent ourselves. So if you have people in your network that you see are struggling, maybe they've just faced a redundancy scenario that came out of the blue and has been a real shock. Share this with, you know, someone that you can help. And if this is resonating with you personally and it's holding a little bit of a mirror up, then it's time to reinvent. Put yourself back in the driving seat because that will allow you, even if you stay in your existing organisation, that's great, it's going to allow you to progress to the next level because you're going to be relevant and hungry for it.

11:42Equally, if there's a change in the market and you find that maybe you're actually moving on from that organisation, that's fine as well. But you're going into the world with confidence, with clarity, knowing that you are constantly able to reinvent yourself, become a stronger leader. So if you need help, reach out. Do not be on your own. It's tough. It's tough at the top. And I see this at the most senior level. From the publisher

Jeannette looks into the most dangerous place in business: comfort.

While many leaders fear failure or competition, the true threat is a quiet slide into irrelevance. She explores why the most successful leaders are those who treat reinvention as a requirement rather than an option, especially in an era of rapid AI integration and shifting consumer behaviours.

From identifying lethal stability to mastering the art of the strategic pivot, this episode is a wake-up call for any leader or entrepreneur who has stopped feeling uncomfortable.

You’ll Learn Why:

Constant revenue and steady clients can mask a dangerous lack of evolution.

Accepting a good status quo is the primary barrier to achieving greatness and long-term growth.

Technology is shifting the goalposts, making current relevance more valuable than past reputation.

Staying ahead requires questioning your assumptions every six months to avoid becoming a "Kodak leader."

Powerful leadership demands a consistent upgrade of your network, mindset, and identity.

This episode is living proof that no matter where you’re starting from — or what life throws at you — it’s never too late to be brave, bold, and unlock your inner brilliant.
