0:12So, the profit paradox. How doing less can actually make you more money? Well, hello, Brave Bob Brilliant family. Lovely to see you again and be with you today. I'm Jeanette Linfoot, your host, and I'm thrilled to be with you talking about this really important topic. So let me ask you a question. How often do you feel like you're doing everything in your business and you're still not seeing the results you want? You know, it could be long hours, endless tasks, you know, jam-packed schedule, yet profitability and growth just seems to be out of reach.
0:48Jeannette:But what if I told you the key to growing your business and your income, it isn't doing more, it's actually doing less, being smarter, but with intention. So today we're going to dive into this profit paradox, how stepping back, focusing on high impact actions and eliminating those unnecessary work can actually increase your revenue and impact. So before we jump in, I just want to hear from you. What's one task you've been doing that feels like a time drain, but it's not moving the needle? So let's get into this. Why doing more doesn't equal more profit? Well, many entrepreneurs believe that busyness equals success, but that mindset often leads to burnout, working longer hours without a proportional return.
1:37Jeannette:It can dilute your focus, you know, spreading your attention across too many tasks, it reduces impact and of course can lead to missed opportunities where you're too busy for high value actions actually drive growth. And here's the truth. Profit comes from strategy, not sheer effort. You know, focusing on what truly moves the needle, high value clients, impactful marketing, scalable systems, is that's what's going to separate thriving entrepreneurs from exhausted ones. So here's a little exercise for you. List the three tasks you do most frequently that don't directly generate revenue or growth.
2:16Jeannette:Share them with us. Drop us an email. let's see what you've got there okay second part of this what are the principles of the profit paradox well how successful entrepreneurs leverage the paradox first of all they prioritize high impact activities focusing on tasks that directly generate income attract clients or scale your business everything else you've got to delegate automate or eliminate you know work smarter not harder. That's the second part. Use systems, templates, tools to reduce that repetitive work and free your time for strategy and creative thinking. Third part, set boundaries. Saying no is not selfish.
3:02It's protecting your time so that you can focus on the highest return on investment. Number four, leverage the team and technology. You know, delegation is not a weakness.
3:12Jeannette:It's absolutely critical in order for you to be able to automate and do that effectively. Number five, regularly audit your activities. So on a weekly basis, ask yourself, what are you doing this week that's actually moving the needle? You know, and if we actually look at some businesses, you can see where, you know, as an example, you know, some businesses where actually after delegating and automating, you know, you can free up significant time in your week, You know, and that might actually then go into client acquisition, growing revenue. You know, there's so many great examples where doing less is actually achieving more.
3:51Jeannette:So let's look at part three, strategies to implement the profit paradox now. So the first one is identify your 20 % high impact tasks. You know, the 80-20 rule applies. 20 % of your actions produce 80 % of your results. So focus there. You know, create a stop doing list. identify those low value tasks and be ruthless next outsource strategically hire experts to do the tasks that you actually don't want to do or not good at batch tasks you know it could be emails it could be actually you know putting certain tasks together so you're more efficient number four schedule some downtime for you you know your brain has got to recover you can't actually keep going endlessly.
4:41Jeannette:Number five, you know, let's actually focus on eliminating those low value tasks, focusing on the higher value areas that you can really shift the dial. You know, and there are some common misconceptions about doing less, aren't they? And often, you know, there's some myths. So myth number one, doing less means laziness. Well, the truth is it's strategic prioritization to maximize output and revenue. Myth number two, clients won't notice if I delegate. Well, the truth is professional delegation often enhances client experience. You know, it frees you up to focus on the strategy and relationships.
5:20Jeannette:Myth number three, profit comes from effort, not focus. No, the truth is high effort without high impact rarely produces sustainable results. Profit follows clarity and leverage, not hours worked. So I ask you, think of one area in your business where you've been trapped by busy work instead of strategic work. How can you shift that focus this week so that you can actually achieve more with less? Now, we would love to hear from you. Which tasks will you eliminate, delegate or automate first? How are you going to focus on high impact activities this week? You know, what are the boundaries that you're going to set your time and energy?
6:04Jeannette:So let us know we want to share and support each other here at Brave Bob Brilliant. So, you know, we can celebrate those steps that we're all doing to move us forward. So a few final thoughts, really. The profit paradox is a business strategy. You remember doing more is not the path to more profit. it's about strategic focus prioritization and effective leverage that creates sustainable growth and freedom you know the profit paradox is simple but powerful work less focus more and your business will absolutely thrive you know so you know what i would say to you is it's so important that we support each other you know and at brave bold brilliant we're creating a community of leaders, a community of businesses and high performing teams that actually mean we can support each other.
7:01Jeannette:And when it comes to these topics, you know, at the end of the day, we are in business to make profit. We're in business to, of course, deliver for our clients, of course, create amazing experiences for our team. But a business is there to make profit. So the profit paradox of doing less to focus on more is so important. And it's certainly something that I've struggled with over the years, you know, where actually you can get caught in this sense of being a busy fool. You know, full disclosure, I have definitely been there myself over the years. So I don't want that for you. And which is why I wanted to share some of these thoughts on this episode to really help you on your journey of growth.
7:48Jeannette:And it doesn't matter whether you're in a corporate business running a very large organization or you might be a solopreneur or you might be an SME doesn't matter the principles are the same you know because your time is precious and I've just got one other concept to kind of share with you really from a leadership point of view and that really is around the idea of as a leader you have to be like a helicopter and by that what I mean is you know and the profit paradox fits perfectly into this actually as well so when you are in a leadership role, you have to be able to be like a helicopter hovering above, looking out at the bigger picture, focusing on the right things, focusing on growth, strategy, key relationships, doing less, more thinking time, etc.
8:35And then when something happens in the business, it might be an opportunity that comes up or it might be that there's a bit of an issue that you need to support the team with. You need to land, get stuck in, resolve that particular scenario and then importantly take off again. All right. So when we're actually doing this constant adjustment of being like a helicopter as a leader, we are also addressing the profit paradox. All right. Around where you spend your time. Are you on the ground too much with the team?
9:06Jeannette:And actually, in order to focus on driving the profit, you need to be stepping up and stepping out, looking at the bigger picture. So whatever position you're in, you know, remember that your time is precious. We cannot afford to waste it. We need to make sure that we're spending time on the right things. So the profit paradox is all about achieving more with less. And that is a smart thing to do. So if we are if we're not connected on social media, let's get connected.
