In short
Etiquette and “unspoken rules” for high-society/business settings—how to behave at business meals, order food/drinks, dress for formal events, network without pitching, and navigate cultural differences while traveling.
Guest backgrounds
No named guests or biographies appear in the transcript; it’s presented as host commentary with anecdotes from the speaker’s business/investment experience and social events.
Key claims
Follow the “head of the table” (don’t start eating, leave, or order dessert early). Don’t over-order expensive items or drinks; read the room. Avoid lunch/dinner for serious business—prefer a controlled setting where you’re taken more seriously. Dress to the event (black tie requires a tux and tie; avoid sneakers). Don’t make it about yourself; work the room selectively. Network by listening and adding value, not pitching.
Notable examples
Dessert is “optional”; don’t order cake/dessert before the entree. Fork sizes reflect course order (smaller for salad). In Dubai/Middle East, avoid touching/hugging and don’t shake hands with women.

I don't even know if he wants me to say his name, but shout out to, yeah, you know, a friend of mine, we recently had a conversation. He was like, I think I'm black. I need to really just have a series on etiquette because people don't know. So one of the things that he brought up is like, look, if somebody, whoever is the head of the table, you go to a business meeting, right?
4:38You've been invited, there's somebody that's the head of the table. Figuratively or just literally, but the person that's probably going to pay for the bill. The person that curated the vibe. Okay. This is important. You kind of got to follow the lead of that person. Do people need etiquette classes in 2026? 1 ,000%. Okay. You kind of got to follow the lead of that person. Meaning, technically in that situation, nobody should start eating until everybody gets their food. definitely don't start eating before that person and I got people like oh you trying to close a business deal right I'm trying to help you guys out that's one you don't leave until said person leaves said person is the leader you can't leave before said person leaves right everybody kind of orders at the same time a lot of restaurants now they take every order at once, like they take the appetizer thing and dessert at once.
5:45Don't scarf down your entree, then order the cake and don't order dessert. Dessert should never be ordered in that situation. It should only be ordered. Or tell them why. Because you're doing too much. Now we've got to talk about it. It's a set agreement when you go out to dinner that we have appetizer, we have entree. Dessert is always optional. Dessert is always an optional situation. So it can be seen as A, you could potentially be doing too much as far as the meal is concerned and you're too hungry, literally. And B, it could be deemed as too much of being inconsiderate of the bill. Bill, yeah, yeah.
6:32Once again, watch your drinks. Cocktails, and basic level wine. But that's what happens because the drinks get the flowing, then the extra, yo, can I get another Wagyu? Oh, you got a Wagyu imported from Argentina? Bring that. And it's like, okay, my boy. Be careful on your drink orders. Read the room. If, wait to order. If everybody's ordering a drink, order a light cocktail, order a mid-level, level wine. Mm-hmm. don't order the most expensive drink in the menu. Just because. Just because you're not paying for it. That can be deemed inconsiderate and that can be deemed weird. Yeah. But also, if nobody's drinking, don't be the one person to drink.
7:25Yeah. If nobody's drinking at a table, that's for a reason. Yeah, yeah. Right? And if you're in a business setting, I don't think you should be drinking anywhere. Well. I don't think you should be drinking. That's another thing, too. And technically, I was always taught, never have a business meet. Lunch meetings is the worst thing you can do. Yeah, I agree. Or meet for dinner. If you want to meet somebody for business, especially if it's your first time, especially if you're trying to present something to them. There's a few different ways to handle business. If we're just getting together and we're just catching a vibe as far as feeling each other out, pause and I, you know, that's one.
7:59But like when I was in business, I was in, I was presenting things as far as investments, life insurance. And I was always taught never, never do lunch or dinner, do lunch or dinner because A, it's not a serious conversation. You ain't get easily distracted. You're trying to put papers on a table that has food and drinks. There's music playing that people talking. It's not a good setting for that. And they'll take you more serious. For sure. You don't go to the doctor over dinner. Yeah. You don't meet your lawyer at lunch. And it's better for the client to come meet you anyway because the conversion is higher.
8:32And it's a controlled environment. Yes. Right. Exactly. You control the setting. You have a different level of prestige when they're coming to you. Yeah. So, that's important as far as the etiquette is concerned. Also, etiquette, what do you wear? Oh, man. You can't say, I'm going to say, there's too many people that are going to formal events dressed non-formally. Like, I told you, post-invest fest, I'm back on my PR thing, I'm shaking ass, kissing baby. Everyone wear suits now. So you don't got to do that. But if the things say dinner or black tie, you shouldn't come in with a zebra print Nike tech suit.
9:16If it's a black tie event, you should wear a tie. That's why it's literally They tried to make it as easy as possible for you guys. It's literally called black tie because you're supposed to wear a black tie. Yes. Yes. And how you present yourself does have an impact. A hundred percent. So you shouldn't wear a button up shirt that unbuttoned. It's a black tie event. You should wear a tuxedo. And like I said, you might be able to get away with, you know, a nice suit. Yeah. now. But you need a formal black tie. Yeah. Tuxedo. Now, if you wear you should not be wearing sneakers to a black tie. Prada shoes are not shoes.
10:08They're sneakers. Well, Nike, another dumbass decision. They got black Air Force Ones. You can wear with a tux and patent leather. The American Cup Pradas are not shoes. They're sneakers. You can call them dress sneakers if you want, but they're sneakers. They're actually sneakers. How do you know the difference between a sneaker and a shoe? One has a rubber bottle. That's why I call it hard bottom. When in doubt, if you're wearing something with rubber at a formal event, you should change said shoe to something that has a hard bottom. Yes. and it makes you feel better, especially if in a business setting you're taking more seriously.
10:50And another thing, don't make the thing about you. Shout out to Resource World, shout out to Nas, had a great time, shout out to Ramey, the DT. But even when I went to have a conversation with Nava, which we can talk about, he is what he presents to be, but I think he's probably the most humble superstar that we have in culture, right? down to earth, like just super dope person. When I went, I sat at my table and I talked to those. I did. I could have worked the room, but you have to know when, if it's not about you, it's about him. So I'm just talking to the people who are here and here, like almost half the night.
11:29We didn't even talk. Then you, then you get up. How you move matters. Cause a lot of times when you want to do business and be in close proximity with people, you're not going to get it on a first time anyway. It's going to take you five or six follow-ups. Like even let's take me and Bilal. Me and Bilal, Little have known each other maybe four years. We felt each other out eight or nine times before we did one interview. It's not going to be, and a lot of times you guys want business one night stands and you want the deal quick. And that's why the deals go awry because they have embedded you and you have embedded them.
12:06And that's how a lot of you get scammed with Dajon Love and him telling he own Gucci on part of Saks Fifth Avenue and all that. So there's times to work the room and there's times to just be more chill. But if you are dressing up, especially, especially even, um, for this trip, like I even heard them in the hotel. They're like, Oh, that's the investor. I seen him, but it will look different if I just had on Kith. Shout out to Kith. I like the brand, but being in suits and presenting a certain way does matter. 100%. And when they line your plate up, they have a smaller fork and the fork is bigger.
12:42That's done because the first one to the outside is used for the salad. That's why it's smaller. It's the appetizer. The larger one is used for the main course entree. When you're done with your salad, somebody should come and take your plate. You put the smaller one on the plate for somebody to take. Take it away. It's all things you got. You shouldn't put your elbows on the table. Yes. When you eat... Even forms, you should be limited in that. But the double form... Over, not under. Under is the shovel method. Over is the method. And meeting people, don't pitch. Just find out how you can add value.
13:32Listen. I'm sitting. I'm talking to the guys next to me. They're creating concerts. I'm just asking them about their business. I'm not saying anything about Red Panda, nothing about Stock Club, nothing about Mark. Just da-da-da-da-da. They'll actually, if a person is interested in what you do, because in America, that's a common thing. Hey, what do you do? Because they're trying to rank you according to that. But just be there and be a good person. You'll be surprised at what'll happen. And after that, just be gracious and a follow-up. Nice to meet you. No hard pressing. And if you're doing your job, they will then come back to you a lot of this um one of my favorite books about al reese and laura reese's daughter positioning even the the the not selling having a client come to you i don't do outbound calls for sales that is positioning because if you come to me the one thing that madoff did very well is despite him selling more options than what was publicly available.
14:30That's where the scam would arrive. The one thing he did do well, if you read the book or watch any of those documentaries, when he would take you out, he would never bring up the investment first. He would make you bring it up. Because he don't want to sell you. Sell me on why I should let you into the fund. And it was like, almost like he did his hardest to not let you in. Yes. Psychological trick. Also, learn about different cultures and customs if you, especially if you're traveling. Yes. For instance, I'll give you an example. If you go to Dubai or anywhere in the Middle East, you meet a woman.
15:04It's not. You don't touch women. So how you greet them is different than if you how you if you greet some. First of all, my opinion, you shouldn't hug a stranger. Just hugging a random woman is weird to me. You meet a woman in America. Hey, how you doing? Especially y 'all who do the I saw y 'all. Pelvis to pelvis. You trying to underscore. No, my boy. Side hug it or. but for all y 'all with my hug at types y 'all are crazy hugging somebody that you don't know is crazy you meet a woman in America hey how you doing you shake their hand you know pleasure to meet you you don't touch women in Middle Eastern culture hello how you doing that's important to understand because it's going to be an awkward moment when you try you're going to try to shake their hand and they're going to look at you and just avoid the awkwardness.
16:00Don't shake hands with women if you are in that part of the world. Or like I said, know where you're going. Different cultures have different customs. That's important for you to understand.
