If your New Year's resolution is to finally get your finances in shape, we've got your back. Prices, they're still high, and the economy is all over the place. But 2026 is the year for you to get intentional and make real progress.

Kick off the year with confidence. Listen to HowToMoney on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, hello, all my people. What's up? It's Questlove. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with the one and only A$AP Rocky. He reflects on his journey from Harlem roots to global icon status and discovering the hip-hop origin of his name. The ledge was on the TV. Rakim had the Buckethead Kangol join on.

50I'm possibly like, that's Rakim. That's who you named after. I just was like, damn the f***ing f***ing swag. Swag. Listen to the Questlove show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. This episode is brought to you by PNC Bank. A lot of people think podcasts about work are boring. And sure, they definitely can be. But understanding a professional's routine shows us how they achieve their success little by little, day after day. It's like banking with PNC Bank. It might seem boring to save, plan, and make calculated decisions with your bank, but keeping your money boring is what helps you live a more happily fulfilled life.

33PNC Bank, brilliantly boring since 1865. Brilliantly boring since 1865 is a service mark of the PNC Financial Service Group, Inc. PNC Bank, National Association, member FDIC. It's a pleasure to have you, my brother. Appreciate you, my brother. Joey Badass, man. legendary rapper, actor, you're a renaissance man. But more importantly, I like the role that you're playing now as far as a father, as far as, you know, in the relationship with your woman open. Like, I just feel like you are setting a great example of masculinity in 2025 because it's a lot of other things that's put out there in the media.

16But what you're doing as far as how you're handling yourself is very reminiscent of an era that's familiar to me as far as being a little older than you. And I feel like you kind of like an old soul. So I appreciate the way that you carry yourself, first and foremost. Appreciate that, man. Appreciate. Yeah, man. You know, I'm all for the collective. And I think that one of the main things that we need to be doing as a people is getting right with each other. And we got to, you know, the relationship, the family aspect is a lot of healing that got to be done. And, you know, I kind of keep that in my sights and I take my relationship with my woman very seriously.

59But, you know, deeper even beyond us, like I look at us as if we have the opportunity to course correct. We have the opportunity to stand on this platform and almost be an example, you know, to our community of what we can be and, you know, what we should be. But, you know, no pressure, no pressure on anybody out there. I know it's definitely not easy.

27And I definitely don't want to make it seem like it's easy even being in that container with someone. Because, you know, it comes with its challenges for sure. Well, that's where I want to start. I want to start with family. How old are you? How old are you? I'm 30. So as a young man, you got a family, right? Like, talk about that. Like, talk about to you the importance of having that family and some of the trials and tribulations and how you're actually growing and learning how to become, you know, a family man. Man, I think I've always been family oriented, you know, just from when I was a kid, you know, barbecues and all of that at my great grandmother's house.

18And, you know, I was grateful enough to be born into a big family. It's funny because I remember when I, you know, I got to like middle school and I started really connecting with my friends and, you know, going by their homes and stuff. I was like, oh, snap, like everybody ain't got a big family. You know, and I started realizing how valuable that was to be able to grow up in a community that was so close knit. and people looking out for each other. So I think that's just something that I definitely inherited from my childhood. However, there's a lot of things that I did not see. Like I've never been to, I've probably been to like two weddings in my life.

09Really? Yeah. You know what I'm saying? I didn't see any real examples of affectionate love. growing up. So even though there was family, even though there was community, I didn't really see relationships being developed and cultivated like that. So that's something that I took with me into my adulthood. And that's something that I tried to create for myself and for the following generation that's coming after me. You know, my fiance and I, it's funny because just last night, we like to have meetings with each other because we almost acknowledge the fact that part of being in a... What if mind control is real?

05If you could control the behavior of anybody around you, what kind of life would you have? Can you hypnotically persuade someone to buy a car? When you look at your car, you're going to become overwhelmed with such good feelings. Can you hypnotize someone into sleeping with you? I gave her some suggestions to be sexually aroused. Can you get someone to join your cult? NLP was used on me to access my subconscious. NLP, aka Neuro Linguistic Programming, is a blend of hypnosis, linguistics, and psychology. Fans say it's like finally getting a user manual for your brain. It's about engineering consciousness.

40Mind Games is the story of NLP. its crazy cast of disciples, and the fake doctor who invented it at a New Age commune and sold it to guys in suits. He stood trial for murder and got acquitted. The biggest mind game of all? NLP might actually work. This is wild. Listen to Mind Games on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's start with your cat. How is she? She is not with us anymore. Okay, great, great, great way to start. So this is a great beginning and hopefully you'll be able to, I don't know, maybe you will cry. Amanda Seyfried. Life is so short. If you feel something like that, you have that fire in you for this experience.

02It's not for a guy. It's for the experience of being in love. and like it's bigger than a guy. Elizabeth Olsen. I love swimming naked so much. And I know you love taking pictures of yourself naked. I love to be naked. I just want to be in my bra and underwear all the time. Ross Matthews. You know what kids always say to me? Are you a boy or a girl? Oh my God. All the time. That's so funny. I know. So I'm always like, hi. I try to butch it up for kids, you know, so they're not confused. Yeah, but you're butching it up. It's basically like Doris Day. No, I turn into Bea Arthur. Listen to these episodes of Dear Chelsea on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

02who you named after. I just was like, damn, that was I swear. Rocky offers a window into not only a boundary-breaking artist, but as a man committed to fusing creative ideas, community, and remaining unapologetically himself. Have you ever gotten roasted for any of your outfits? For sure. Some people don't be getting the vision. They can roast me, they can cook me, they can deep-fry me, they can saute whatever they want. Nobody can do with my fashion sense and my taste is impeccable. I'm just like, I impress myself a lot. It's an amazing conversation. One you definitely don't want to miss. So listen to the Questlove show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

49This relationship with each other or part of being in this container with each other and part of cultivating a future with children and goals and stuff like that is you kind of got to approach it from a business-minded standpoint. So, you know, we had one of our meetings, you know what I mean? Like, usually we get like a rework office or something like that, and we meet in there, and we put the goals on the board, and, you know what I'm saying, we really plan it out. What's the long-term? What's the short-term? What's the now? You know what I'm saying? What are we going to grab off the short-term list and attack right now like the next uh 36 uh uh next uh pardon me uh 12 weeks you know what i'm saying so um it's just kind of like creating what we feel we should have seen becoming that becoming the change that that we want to see and um yeah man you know it's so dope because you know we there and it's It's like, our son is in there and he only like four months now, but I'm just like, this is the type of future that we want to build, not only for ourselves, but for our children, where they could grow up being like, oh, mom and dad in the meeting room again, there's a meeting of the minds again.

09And they part of it. They part of it. This is what we going to do. This is where we headed. And I think that's why a lot of relationships today are so doomed or they fail because you You got two people who really don't come together in a line with any type of goal, direction or even business plan. You got two people essentially just floating in space and not... There was this quote I read a long time ago, right? I can't even necessarily remember it, but the analogy is pretty much like you being on a plane or you being on a boat. and just the smallest degree of you turning one degree this way one degree in this direction or you know you turn in a cell that direction you end up somewhere you never even planned on going you know i mean negatively you know what i'm saying so it's all about mapping it out and you know because some people are passengers on their own plane they're passengers on their own ship if you will you know like some people don't even realize that they could get into the cockpit or they could get into the captain's seat and steer the the whole thing where they want to go so you know we apply that a lot and we make sure that we get super accountable on what this is and what we create and what we ultimately want to be How do you pick a person that's in alignment for you?

39And can you talk to us about some of the challenges that you guys face and how you work through them? I think that's a great question. I think that there's a series of like, what I call it, almost like there's a vetting process. And I think everybody is different. It's all about you have to know personally what your value systems are. you know what what do you value what's in what's of importance to you and you know i'd advise people to approach it like a like like a business like if you're gonna sign a contract with somebody right you're gonna have non-negotiables like nah i ain't doing that you know and you gotta you gotta stand firm on what those things are and i think again a lot of people jump into these contracts or they jump into these situations not even understanding what their terms are.

38And then now you get into this situation and now you want to try to change terms and you know what I mean? But you already got the other party used to, nah like this is what it is. This is what we came into. This is what I expect now. So I think communication of course is key. You know, you gotta speak up for yourself. You gotta like I said, you got to state what your terms are. You got to draw the line and you got to align, most importantly. You got to be with a candidate that you feel like you're going to do good business with. You know what I'm saying? And I hate to make it so... I hate for it to seem like a transactional thing because it's really not, but I do think that the business mindset does align with it because you got to think about it.

31It's like, yo, listen, we could fall in love, we could be in love, but at some point we're going to have to ask each other real questions. Like, so what's your, like, how do you save money? What's your money spending look like? What's your money habits look like? Let's figure that out at the top. You know what I mean? Let's let's let's let's change the direction of where we going like i like to i like to trim the fat like let's get right to it you know what i'm saying like i i'm not trying to waste my time especially you know me being so intentional with what it is that i know that i want to do like i ain't just trying to i ain't just trying to play around like you know we going for the long term then we got to ask long-term questions we got to have that long-term vision make sure that it lines like i ain't gonna wait i ain't waiting six months to ask what you will you trying to be you know what i'm saying or or you know just ask the important questions that a lot of people don't think about until it really hits the fan you know so your your fiance how you you asked those questions right away with her oh listen i sure did i sure did you know you're right too a lot of tough questions at the time okay you know and it's it's funny because a lot of those questions that i asked like i could tell she wasn't used to that you know she wasn't used to be challenged in that type of way like yo like what like like you know and and you know she's it's been so much progress for both of us but yeah you know at the beginning it almost be like what you asking me these questions for and i'm like girl because i'm serious i'm trying to i ain't trying to play around like you think this is the game like i'm serious like what what do you value what what do you like you know i'm saying like just getting really really real i don't got no time to play i ain't joking earners what's up you ever walk into a small business and everything just works like the checkout is fast the receipts are digital tipping is a breeze and you're out the door before the line even builds.
