In short

Habits and “luxuries” to cut to build wealth—especially avoiding car payments, frivolous spending, and financially draining relationships—while practicing moderation and prioritizing investing.

Guests

Matt Rogers (from Las Culturistas) and Bowen Yang (from Las Culturistas). Additional recurring voice: Rashad (financially focused perspective), plus references to Derek Falcon and “Katie” (discussed but not clearly identified as guests).

Key claims

The first luxury to cut is a car note; cars depreciate and trap people. Luxury spending (watches, designer clothes, luxury travel) adds up and delays millionaire goals. Bad relationships stunt growth more than cars/jewelry/housing.

Notable examples

Checking Lyft prices before booking; car examples like Volvo/Volkswagen “millionaire cars”; references to expensive watches and Chrome Hearts jeans; “millionaire next door” style frugality; “cut your boyfriend/girlfriend” as a growth priority.

1:13We compare flights, prices, hotel rates, and restaurant options. So why wouldn't we compare rides? Personally, I always check Lyft before booking a ride. Prices can change throughout the day depending on traffic, weather, and what's happening in the city. If you're headed to a concert, out to dinner, or catching up with your friends on a Friday night, taking a few seconds to check Lyft could leave you with more money to enjoy the experience. Somebody asked me this question. What's the first luxury I should cut in my route to becoming a millionaire? I always go viral with these kind of takes. I could do the yada. Don't, don't, you shouldn't even have a woman till you make your first million.

3:36I'm not going to do that. Yada, awaken. Awakening. Part two, Wednesday. my bro. Damn. 5 ,000. Send your queen 5 ,000 right now. If you serious. If you really serious, send your queen 5 ,000 right now on the cash app. You really love her? Do you? The number spiked up real quick. Rashad, in your opinion, what is the first thing that a person should... Oh, we had 62. Nah, nah, nah. They got a check. Let's turn it on. Hey, Rashad, you want to do flex or motion? Oh, man. The first thing, car note for sure. Man, these car notes is so crazy. And it's one of these things that you get trapped in. Three years on the lease, seven years on the purchase.

4:23Save your money. Seven years, crazy. Seven years. You're saying it's in 10 years now. 10. And it's a depreciating asset.

4:35Cars don't hold values. Some cars do. But most cars don't hold value. and it doesn't really change anything. I have not seen somebody's life drastically increase because of a car. Now, granted, we do live in a place where cars mean less. New York is not like a driving place. I know cars mean a lot in Miami. Cars mean a lot in LA. Atlanta, Houston. Atlanta.

5:07but and I have heard stories that I got into an opportunity because the car that I just never seen I personally can't remember that I've never seen I personally with my own eyes have never seen somebody get an opportunity because of the car that's a good you go to the Porsche club and as a result you got a 6 million dollar deal it's rare I haven't seen it So I would say that's the first luxury that you should cut. I know millionaires that drive Volvos. Man, Volkswagen. The Volkswagen is the millionaire car. Yes, it is. That Volkswagen is the millionaire car. That Volkswagen is the millionaire car.

5:50That's a fact. That Volkswagen is a millionaire car. That's not a fact. When I was a financial advisor, let me tell you something. When I was a financial advisor, my first, my first, no, it's 100 % a fact. When I was a financial advisor, my first office that I worked in was Park Avenue. And in Park Avenue, I was one of the only black people there. And it was all, it was like Italian, Jewish, man, the number one guy in the annuities, the number one guy, this guy was making millions of dollars every single year. And he drove a 15 year old Volvo. And everybody that I saw, they all had the same car.

6:35They all had Volkswagen and Volvo. It was like the Vs. Volkswagen, Volvo, every now and then you might see an X3, BMW, like every now and then I saw no phantoms i saw no no lamborghinis but it's not a robo though i'm telling you the when i was telling you if you ever read those high i was gonna say if you ever read the millionaire next door it was like the average millionaire most millionaires they either buy like a toyota camry or they're buying um a honda accord or something in that range that was 30 years ago i'm just saying like in that book that's and if you look at studies now it's still in that range people are still buying i didn't see a honda accord in a minute yeah but the number one car that they used to buy this is like 10 years ago was a nissan ultima which is crazy same same class but i'm not i don't that's a car that car actually they don't even make it anymore they actually stopped production like i think this year or last year they stopped production of it but you don't even see that car anywhere but that's i mean it talks about being frugal living way below your means and not wanting to have attention but it's also just a practical car and it's just like you know these people don't really got swag.

7:44Now, am I going to drive a Volkswagen? No, I'm not. But I'm just giving you the real situation. Absolutely not. But I'm also not getting a Ferrari either. That's the other part. Okay, and that goes to my point. Any luxury spending or any vacations until you hit the millie that would have been mine you should put away um because the desire for the and like once again it's been brought up yeah you don't spend that much it takes a lot of discipline to be a like to be a grown man and everything that you wanted to buy as a kid you can buy and then you realize sometimes being able to buy it is the goal knowing that you can get it but and i know a few people and i have them and i've got a few friends we got every ferrari and it's special and there's one to 26 made and two years in you like was it really worth 536 that's a ticket bro yeah i was gonna say was it really worth 400 no no it wasn't it wasn't i think you kind of surmised the the both of the things you said travel and luxury expenditures travel it luxury travel is i mean that could be extremely costly i think that's up that is one of those ones for sure that i'm like Quick one before you jump back in.

13:47I don't, you don't have to do that. Would you like to do that? Yeah. Are there cheaper ways than to have luxury vacations? And I'm saying like you find a family, you're doing first class, you're renting out the Airbnb. Like that adds up. Like those are luxuries that we don't need. It could be like, hey, I'm just going to, I'm going to travel. I'm going to drive down to a place, right? Cut costs, like do that instead. But having frivolous spending, whether it's cars or it's watches, trust me. Yeah, it adds up. We all spend a 40, 50 grand for watches. And then the girl that you're on a date with don't even know what it is well i'll say this because you don't like to speak to speak to the average person because the average person is not buying a rose royce or lamborghini but the average person is spending a lot on luxury goods we saw at invest they're not buying they're not buying a rolex but they are these clothes is becoming it's insane bro malenciaga is like nikes people are spending a lot of money on clothes clothes especially for the kids in middle school and high school.

14:52Men and women. And jewelry too. I'm just saying, the dudes will buy a fake chain. Cause when I said, I can't trust anybody with fake jewelry, I got crucified. They wear fake clothes though. Well, a lot of them is wearing fake clothes. Like what brand? It's a lot of podcasters who got the four Louis V. I seen the Chrome heart jeans for$15 ,000,$30 ,000. Dudes is not paying$30 ,000 for Chrome hard jeans. They're not wearing paper. Even the fake chrome is not cheap. Yeah, exactly. But I'm saying they wearing fake stuff regardless, but it is what it is, right? Even that, like nobody at a certain level, what you have on doesn't really mean the character, the person you are.

15:33And one never means the character of the person. So like, just build that. Or your acumen in business. Invest in that. Well, I mean, you gotta get the girl first. Let's be honest. So do what you gotta do to get the girl. Once you get the girl - No, get your affairs in order first. Get your money right. Get your money in order. Get you in order. They're gonna spend 60 on the land. I'm a realist, I'm a realist. The average dude is not eating peanut butter and jelly, sleeping on the floor. Look, you wanna go out Friday night, you wanna enjoy it. Look, let's not be extremist. Let's not be extremist.

16:09But listen, I'm not here to talk to the average. I'm here to talk to the elite. And then they're gonna come back in two years and be like, well, I fucked up my back. You're going to spend 50 on a land dweller and your girl's a sea dweller. I'm not talking to the average. If you're average, tune out. It's a whole bunch of fake motherfuckers y 'all can go listen to. I'm not here for that this year. My brother, Derek Falcon, said you're going to lose money chasing women. You'll never lose women chasing money. It doesn't work the other way around. Men are never going to stop chasing women. So let's not.

16:39I'm a realist. But even a chase is wrong. We're talking about it once then. get your bag get your affairs rasha i'd be remiss my apologies for cutting you off my brother go ahead floor is yours appreciate you thank you but everything in moderation if you're going to do it if you're going to do it do it do it in moderation moderation they're not doing it in moderation and it's the part i'm gonna be the part of the reason why y 'all don't get rich as fast as y 'all want to because y 'all won't sacrifice nothing you want the best of both worlds you want to live scammer lifestyle and then come here on monday and be like yo what's the investing fact of the sit your ass in the house for two years and sacrifice yo C-Doll is crazy bro bro on the front of the boat that's crazy bro now you're stuck what you gonna do yo I need some advice my Dolby call is underwater your girl was underwater with Kwaviante I don't give a fuck if you get 3000 % she don't want you what you gonna do my boy wrap it up since we the villains now, I'm good with it.

17:47I'm good. I was good when I came. When you got the paper though, optionality.

17:57But what, yo no se, yo no se, mi amigo, mi amano. Yo no se. I'm just an observer, that's it.

18:10but everything everything in moderate i'm an extremist so i i i i'm 100 i'm with you in i'm with it lock yourself in the in the closet and cut the lights off and go don't go outside for six months i'm that's my vibe but i'm just saying i just know that you gotta you know you gotta ease people into this way of thinking it's a new way you'd be a good guy and i'd be villain this week you know that's my original bag bang i'm i'm with it but if you don't sacrifice to be elite okay let's talk about the katie thing you katie and katie you've been locked in on investing for a long time too but here's the here's the thing too before we leave this topic the the number one thing you should cut is a bad relationship because that's going to drain you emotionally, financially, and that's going to stunt your growth more than cars, more than jewelry, more than a home.

19:14A bad relationship is going to stunt your growth more than anything else in the world. And that's something that you need to figure out sooner than later. And also a positive relationship could help your growth more than anything else in the world as well. So relationships and not just platonic relationships as well. Who your friends are, who your mentor is, who you're around. Are you saying that those are luxuries? I don't know what you call it. I'm saying that that's a cut. That's something to cut. Where you said whatever cut, if you're going to cut the watches, if you're going to cut going out, you're going to cut bond.

19:54The relationship is everything. Cut your boyfriend. Cut your girlfriend. 20:34When traveling for events or festivals throughout the country, every dollar matters. We compare flights, prices, hotel rates, and restaurant options. So why wouldn't we compare rides? Personally, I always check Lyft before booking a ride. Prices can change throughout the day depending on traffic, weather, and what's happening in the city.
