Fire Nation, success isn't a solo journey. It's about who you surround yourself with.
1:11That's why I built the Freedom Circle, a powerful community of entrepreneurs ready to support, inspire, and share the ideas that move you forward. Visit freedom-circle.com to learn more. Colin, say what's up to Fire Nation and share something that you believe about becoming successful that most people disagree with. I'm going to go with change is bad. I think a lot of people really think that change is a bad thing. And yes, and if you're working for a big company, I did for three years at a Fortune 500 company, And I can tell you, most of this particular company, it was a check printing company.
1:54So you can imagine change was bad in their universe. But the reality is that change can be very good for the entrepreneur. This is an opportunity to use your expertise, your innovation, your knowledge to try to win markets. Now, let me give you an example of that. Let's think about the crypto market. You're pretty familiar with the crypto, I presume. Exactly, right? So if I asked you, JLD, 15 years ago, who are going to be the largest companies in crypto in this new form of a currency? We don't even call it crypto. We'll call it a new form of a currency, right? You'd probably say who? Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citibank.
2:38Well, did you know, and I did this yesterday, I was looking at the statistic, that of the top 10 companies, not one of them is a big company, was an established company more than 15 years ago. Binance, Gate.io, Bidget, Coinbase, Crypto.com, HTX, not one of them is a major company. These are all startups. And when you have change in a marketplace, enter the entrepreneur. This is our opportunity to really go out there, build wealth, and then sell to the big companies. I love this and it's really going to be an impactful start to an amazing conversation because there's a lot of people that say john I missed this boat I missed that boat and I'm like yeah maybe you did I maybe you didn't but maybe you did but guess what you don't have to miss the next boat and we don't know what that's going to be but keep your finger on the pulse and look for what's happening because if there's one thing that established companies and people that are successful right now with what they don't necessarily love is change and so if you can be the first there that first mover advantage in that new area, like I was to podcasting 13 years ago, there's opportunity.
3:47And that's why we're talking about an AI learning mindset today. And I mean, the startup world, Colin, you've seen it. It's been on fire since the launch of ChatGPT 3.5. This is back in like late 2022, I believe. How have you personally seen the landscape shift since then? Oh, it's been incredible. I mean, like I go back a few years, believe it or not, right back to 1993 when there was something called dial-up internet and then high-speed internet in 2000s and social media and all this stuff. And I've gone through a number of companies, over a dozen companies that I've sold off in those years.
4:24And in every one of those, there was massive amounts of change, but we've never experienced the amount of change that we experience today with AI. AI is truly probably the greatest technical innovation of our time. And I'm making that statement based on the fact that it really is a paradigm shift. It really is bigger than the computer, bigger than the internet, bigger than social media. And here's what's interesting about it too. You talk about, you know, are you going to be able to get it on time? Are you going to be able to ride this wave on time? Well, yeah, that dropped like three years ago.
5:01Okay. But the reality is the internet dropped in, you know, the web. We'll call it the web. I won't go back to the early parts of the internet, but we'll call the web dropped in 93, but then all of a sudden e-commerce drops and social media drops. There are going to be so many sub-shocks or sub-waves from the current AI revolution. And we're starting to see that in a lot of different areas from music to video to intelligence, and it's really coming together nicely. I continue to stick with my statement that AI will mint more millionaires than any other technological change in history. Wow. You heard it here first, Fire Nation.
5:41Colin knows what he's talking about, being somebody who's been there, done that, as you've heard in the intro, and of course on multiple past episodes of EO Fire. And one thing you do talk a lot about, Colin, is the learning mindsets. Why is that the ultimate edge for entrepreneurs, specifically, and maybe even more than ever, today? Yeah, and I think that is probably one of the secret sauces that a lot of entrepreneurs have used to become very successful. And I would actually argue the majority of entrepreneurs. I mean, I know there are a few eccentric individuals. We won't name Elon Musk or anyone else.
6:17But the reality is having that learning mindset is probably one of the first things you can do to build wealth in your life. I don't know about you, JLD, but I went and I read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People when I was 18 years old. So I know the first habit. I know the second habit. And I learned from that. And I learned from other books. People can learn from this podcast. In fact, your listeners today already have a learning mindset. That's why they're listening to us now. And that's why I wrote the book, Start, Scale, Exit, Repeat, and interviewed over 200 people so that we could all learn from that.
6:52and let me tell you, we set out on our journey to crack the code of what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur in that book. And for the most part, we've only scratched the surface, but we did scratch the surface. And it's made a big difference for those who have read that book. But listening to your podcast and when it comes to AI, our mindset, we have to start learning to change our mindset. I was at a conference about four weeks ago. It was a CEO group. of CEOs, I'm not going to name names, okay, because this will be embarrassing. But it was a shock at how little the CEOs knew about what you could do with AI.
7:32And we talked about things like deep research and custom GPTs, video creations. And I would say about 80 % really had pretty much no clue that the AI had advanced to the level it advanced. You know, often, you know, CEOs or entrepreneurs, we rely on others. But the fact is, entrepreneurs, we're a unique breed. Call us like a jack of all trades, right? A master of none. And if you have a little bit of knowledge with AI, you can be a master of all. And over the last few months, I'm not just an author here. I still have an incubator. I'm involved in 20 companies. I'm deep into it, deep into all these companies right now one of them is paw.com it's a great dog products company and i've had to jump into multiple roles within this company you know we've they've had to reduce the staff and now become now an ad expert i'm creating ad advertisements uh a few weeks ago we launched a video and you know me and my videos i love watching videos but uh made in america video and we used AI to create the song.
8:40We used Google's VO3 to create all the scenes for the song. And I did it myself, actually. And then I sent it to my team to put it all together. And by the way, it's quite a catchy song. But I didn't stop there. Before we launched the video, I went to AI with the video and I said, tell me what I can do to make this a viral video. And I couldn't believe it came back and said, well, kill the first 17 seconds. that's the first thing it said that's no no that's my artistic no no kill it kill it and because you would lose i would have lost the catch within the first five seconds on youtube we launched it within within 72 hours had 100 000 views on this uh video it was called made in america music video if you want to look at it um you know another uh interesting story is i was working with my staff and they kept sending me stuff and i'm like if they sent me a press release whatever it is document and I'd pop it into chat GPT or whatever and I'd look at it and I'd send them back feedback.
9:36I did this like two or three times and it really dawned on me that what am I doing? Instead of me doing this, I should be telling my staff to use AI to create better content and to always be referring to AI. And that's that AI mindset that's going to give us that edge in business, in startups. And we've got to even, you know, we got to think about our team, our employees, everyone's got to be thinking about this AI mindset. Now, I did this one particular day, and I'm at my cabin up in Canada, and this mindset thing just sort of clicked, right? I'm out on the boat, JLD, and it's a pretty cool scarab, 21-foot boat, you know, and a light goes off, like a beeper, like it's an emergency, ding, ding, you know, whatever.
10:22And I'm like a little bit freaked out, stopped the boat, you know, and usually I would go on Google, look at YouTube, call up the cat, you know, whatever. So this time I just took a photo of the error or the signal on the boat, whatever you call it, you know, and I took it, a photo, and I put it into ChatGPT, and one minute later, I had a complete analysis of the issues. So I'm not just talking about, like, business. I'm talking about a complete AI mindset that we're going to first turn to AI when we have a challenge or a problem or we want to seize on an opportunity? I mean, what isn't this going to disrupt?
10:59I mean, because when you were talking, Colin, I actually had this memory. I was like, why didn't I do that? We had this lightning strike, like right on my road where I live here in Maine or I'm visiting my family. And it took the power out of the entire road. So everybody was on generator. And one of our neighbor's generators was short-circuited and they had an error code there. And we went to help them out. And we're just like, oh, we don't know what the error code is. I guess we've got to call a professional and wait a couple of days and blah, blah, blah. We should have taken a picture of the error code because it was pretty detailed.
11:29It was like error code, Oath83, internal valve, blah, blah, blah. Uploaded into ChatGPT and said, what is the probable solution for this? And we literally probably could have solved it potentially on the spot. I mean, it's unbelievable. Yeah, and within seconds. And it's just that AI mindset. It's just always having that AI mindset. Have the AI mindset. That's a great phrase, having the AI mindset. And we're going to be talking more about this, Fire Nation, when we get back from thanking our sponsors. Okay, let's talk about a platform that's completely changing how entrepreneurs are running their business.
11:59And they are also our featured partner, High Level. That's highlevelfire.com, where marketing, sales, and automation finally come together.
13:13High level, join the revolution. Fire Nation, let me drop a truth bomb. The biggest bottleneck holding most entrepreneurs back isn't lack of ideas, tools, or hustle, it's lack of connection. And when I scaled my business to eight figures and mentored thousands of entrepreneurs, I saw the same thing again and again. People trying to do it alone, and that's why I created the Freedom Circle. You've heard me end every episode of Entrepreneurs on Fire by saying you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. That's not just a quote. It's the reality of success. The Freedom Circle instantly becomes your family of five and then some.
13:48It's a community of driven entrepreneurs ready to pour ideas, connections, and support into every part of your journey. So Fire Nation, if you're ready to level up and finally create freedom on your terms, head to freedom-circle.com to learn more. That's freedom-circle.com. Colin, we're back and check it out. When it comes to AI, let's break down how startups can position their products. How can they position their services to actually stand out and be seen? So this was another topic that came up at the CEO Council that I was just, I just couldn't believe that these CEOs hadn't considered this.
14:29But I went through a learning process as well. So we run 19 Airbnbs here in South Florida. And I needed a 60-inch bathtub for one of the Airbnbs. So typically, I'd go to Google and I'd search for it. Now, I have my team looking for it usually when it comes to this stuff. I don't normally get involved. But this particular Airbnb is something that my wife and I visit a lot. It's on the beach in the west coast of Florida. And so I wanted to make certain it was perfect. So I typically would go to Google. But then I said, you know what? Let me just check the AI. So I went to perplexity and I gave it the criteria and it came back with three great options.
15:05And by the way, perplexity is doing a pretty good job of giving you two positives and one negative. And then it hit me. It hit me, JLD. If I'm doing this, then others are doing this and others are going to do this. They're going to be looking up what's the best podcast for entrepreneurs. They're going to be starting to look at this. So how are we seeing? See, I've been obsessed with this idea of being on the front page of Google, which I still think is important. I think it's a component now. I'm not saying it's going to go away instantly. But now I've begun to realize that we need to mind shift.
15:40We need to think about how is AI going to respond to us. And so I asked Perplexity today about this, and it came up with like 10 of them. Wikipedia, major news outlets, industry-specific media, like TechCrunch, depending on what your industry is. Your website, of course. Professional reviews, I think that's interesting. It really does pull a lot from reviews. Also from Reddit, right? So these are areas that we may not be thinking about as much. Now, I'm going to make a statement here. It's going to sound a little bit weird, but AIs are lazy. Whoa. Okay. No, hold on. Hold on. You're like, what?
16:25Okay. Just hold on. So I've been, my team and I, we've, as you know, we did this book, Start, Scale, Legs, Repeat, about a year and a half, two years ago, almost two years now, anniversary. And we've won 31 global awards for this book. And so when we asked the AI, you know, which book for entrepreneurship has won the most awards, and it comes up with valuepreneurs. I'm like, okay, they had won 17 awards. And so I literally said to it, okay, well, what about Start, Scale, Exit, Repeat? And it goes back, okay, it won 26 awards, right? So it wasn't really pulling all this publicly available data.
16:59And then I went to look at the value of entrepreneurs and I realized I clicked on it and the source was their press release. So yesterday we put out a press release on Start, Scale, Exit, Repeat being awarded the most awards ever and 31 awards. and within four hours perplexity and Google's Gemini quoted the press release that we are the book that has won the most awards chat GPT is still about three or four months behind but that being said I if I mean who would have thought press releases I mean are we going back to the 90s right are we going back to the 90s but but what what essentially what's happening here and and don't get me wrong I'm not an AI expert I'm only an expert on starting scaling exiting and repeating and using AI to help me do that.
17:42But what's happening here is the AIs are looking for original material. They want to pull from that material. And even a press release qualifies today. They may not qualify a year from now, whatever. I'm just saying what's happening today. And so you've got to be able to feed it. Now, one thing I did, here's a talk about a learning mindset. I submitted the press release to AI. I told them exactly what I was going to do to chat GPT. And I said, I want to position this for AI for the cert. They said, well, then what you need to do is make your statement and repeat it three times throughout the press release.
18:16Repeat it in the statement, in the heading, the second, first paragraph, and the last paragraph. So here's an opportunity for you not only to create a better press release, but actually to learn how to write a better press release for AI. All right? So we did that, and we put it out there, and within four or six hours, it was already updated, and now we've corrected the story there. Now, one thing it did say, too, the second thing it said is you've got to quote all 31 awards. Because originally, when I sent the press release into ChatGPT, or I uploaded it, whatever you call it, not upload, I know that's 1990s, but when you put the press release into ChatGPT, it said uh oh no you need to quote every award so it's a little lazy you know it wants you to know and then once i did that and then now it knows oh you're right and by the way every single award was was was double checked and they're posted publicly in different locations uh but you but you'd be surprised that it didn't do it on its own it wanted us to do the work for it and now you can see what happens so you're going to want to look for original content you're going to want to be able to write for blogs, get on podcasts.
19:30Get on your podcast, JLD, and talk about this, because this is what the AI is looking at. The AI is not looking at AI. There's no such thing as Google hacks for AI. You could argue this is a hack, but the reality is that what they want, what AI is thirsty for, is content. What you got, JLD, with this show is content. and that's the new universe we're heading to, which sounds a little bit like the 1990s again. I mean, my biggest takeaway from what you are saying here is A, a lot, but B, we need to start thinking like AI is going to think, like AI is going to operate, like AI is going to research.
20:11And I love that mindset. So your book, Start, Scale, Exit, Repeat, I mean, it just lays out this powerful roadmap. I mean, it's two years old. It's over 31 awards have been won. I mean, it's incredibly useful today as it was the day that you published. So talk about where Fire Nation can go to actually start their journey with the help, the assistance, the guidance of your book. Well, first I want to say in the book, we talk about a concept called live in the future. This is something I'm obsessed with. I mean, I've always had the latest Internet, Tesla, whatever it is. So right now I'm so obsessed with AIs.
20:48I have about 10 paid memberships with different AIs. I buy the premium models. I buy whatever I can. I surround myself with this stuff, and I live it daily, and I use it. And if you don't surround yourself with it, then you're falling behind because there's going to be haves and have-nots. And you're an AI haver or you're not. And if you do that, that's going to give you an edge because you're literally living in the future. I mean, here's a small personal story. You know, my mother had her 85th birthday, and we created a song for her. And it was a very good song, and it was very touching, and I could see the tears in her eyes.
21:26And she had 35 people there, but little did she know, it only took me less than half an hour to create, and I used this music and this music app. But the reality is what we need to do is surround ourself, be aware of it, use it, test it, play with it, fail with it, and then make money from it. And that, my friend, is going to create more wealth for more entrepreneurs than anything else in history, this AI. So we are on the verge of, and we're very early on. I'd say we're still in the first inning, second inning. We're very early on to creating great wealth for yourself. So you've just got to jump into it.
22:10And the book, sorry, the book is on Amazon. It's got an audible, a great audible. It was done by the guy who did Budweiser commercials, and he makes it quite entertaining. Oh, nice. And it's now being carried. I was in New York. It was raining out just like a month ago. And my wife and I walked in a Barnes & Noble, and there was the book right there in the Barnes & Noble up at the top with Good to Great and Lean Startup. And it was like hilarious to see that. I'm not hilarious. I mean, it was actually my birthday. It was my 55th birthday. I walked in there, and I'm like, oh, this is a nice birthday present.
22:41somebody do this? I don't know. It was pretty cool. We didn't, we didn't prearrange, you know, obviously. So you can, you could probably get it at your local bookstore now, but if not, then Amazon's the way to go. So many awesome things that are coming up. I mean, Fire Nation, you just need to get your finger on the pulse. I mean, Colin says the first or second inning, I think we're still in the parking lot right now. I think there are so many people who are so resistant to what's coming, who are so scared of change. It's just, the opportunities are endless and you're the average Fire Nation of the five people you spend the most time with.
23:13You've been hanging out with CC and JLD today, so keep up the heat. For links to everything we talked about, type eofire.com into your browser.
