Jenny, say what's up to Fire Nation and share something that you believe about becoming successful that most people disagree with. What's up, Fire Nation? Great to be with you today. Well, here's what I know to be true about becoming successful that many people don't get or might not agree with me, is this.

1:47It's not a destination. You don't get there and arrive forever. It's an everyday practice. It's a decision every single day that you make to choose your version of success, whatever that looks like. And you have a lot of different areas of your life. It's not just work. It's not just your personal life. You've got health. You've got relationships. You've got your wealth. You've got adventure, like so many categories. And every day you have to decide what success looks like for you and keep showing up for it. Fire Nation, you can tell today's going to be a great episode, all focused around big impact without burnout.

2:22And Jenny, so many high performing entrepreneurs, they struggle with burnout. Like it's one of the things, I mean, sometimes we just see people drop off the edge of the earth. We're like, where'd that person go? And sometimes they come back, but sometimes they don't. Like, why is this? And how can we break free? I know this well, because that was me. So I totally get it. It's, we have a hard time saying no. We have a hard time disappointing people. And so we tend to overcommit. We tend to overpromise. We tend to overexert. Sometimes it's a matter of we're trying to prove ourselves. Like someone doesn't believe that we're as good as we hope that they think we are.

2:58And so we think we have to overprove ourselves or we're trying to be perfect, which just is impossible. And I think, you know, I'm a parent. You're a parent now, John. You realize like the perfection thing. It just, you can't even try to attain that. You just have so many things on your plate. And so burnout happens because we're trying to prove this thing that is not able to be proven anyway. And so you have got to recognize like what truly moves the needle in your work, in your world, and also what keeps you full. I need to have energy to be able to show up for the people in my life, for my projects, for the things that I care about.

3:37And if I'm not taking care of my body, if I'm not taking care of my mind, my spirit, my energy, I am no good to anyone. And so I hope that today's conversation will kick that up for our listeners to take care of the most important person in your world, which is you. You have got to choose you first, and then you can pour from that full cup. Well, it is going to be a great conversation because there are always these quote unquote burnout bandits that are cleverly disguised as opportunities. Because, you know, we're entrepreneurs are like, ooh, that could turn into something amazing. So how do we spot these burnout bandits?

4:13Yeah, yeah. I love this question because, yeah, we tend to want to chase things and you're like, oh, it's this latest trend. Oh my gosh, I need to be on TikTok. Oh my gosh, I need to do this thing, that thing, this thing. And it can so easily take us off of our game plan. And what you have to ask yourself, is this truly an opportunity or is it really a distraction? Is it going to take me off of what I was in the middle of? I'm working on this project, I'm working on this plan. And then also does it take you out of your zone of genius? We have these zones. And if you know anything about, you know, the big leap, that great book that I read all those eons ago by Gay Hendricks, there are these different zones.

4:51We've got the zone of genius, the zone of excellence, the zone of competence, the zone of incompetence. And often these quote opportunities, which are really burnout bandits, they're not in your zone of genius at all. They're not even in your zone of competence. And it, it's just a waste of your time. It's just absolutely a waste of your time. I have become such a ninja when it comes to time because I just don't have time to waste. And I think too, John, as we age, and I'll tell you, I'm going to be turning 48 any day now, you become closer to the end of your life. You know, it's like, Hey, I'm not in my twenties anymore.

5:26And you become much more discerning. And so I really am clued in. And I think that's what I hope our listeners get today is really ask yourself, Is this an opportunity that if you said no to it today like you would really regret it? Or is it just something that is going to distract you and have you not be able to take care of yourself and the important people in your world? Fire Nation, I hope this is really getting through because it's so important. I mean, I've been doing this for 13 years now. We're talking a daily show. If I didn't have boundaries, if I wasn't focused on taking care of my energy, my balance, I wouldn't still be here.

6:03I wouldn't have 4 ,600 interviews done. and still showing up to each one on fire because I love doing this. But of course, I love doing it on the right terms when I feel high energy, when I'm not feeling burned out. Now, when it comes to setting standards and boundaries, Jenny, what are some of the biggest mistakes that you just see people make over and over and over again? Sometimes it's, we just don't think we're allowed to do this. You don't think you're allowed to say no. You're worried about what somebody's going to think about you. Oh, they're going to think I'm rude or they're going to think I'm whatever.

6:36First off, we can't worry about what other people are thinking about us. Okay. What I've learned, John, is I am my own worst critic. I can be the meanest person to me. I can be meaner to me than anybody else can be mean to me. So I'd rather be in alignment with myself and with my own truth. And so don't worry that somebody might not like that you're saying no. Often the person who doesn't like you setting the boundary was really grateful when you didn't have one because that meant that they could reach you 24-7. They expected an instant response. And you really have to look at this when it comes to clients, when it comes to team members, when it comes to, you know, friends, all these people in your world.

7:13If it's depleting you, if you, every time you get a message from this person, your stomach drops because you're going, oh no, what are they coming to me with now? And you know what that's like because it happens. This is just part of life. But you have got to be super honest with yourself. And there's ways of being able to language that where you don't have to come across as like this total rude person. But just to establish, hey, my communication is within this time frame. You can be clear about payment terms. This is super important in business. If you don't have terms, I say to my clients, you need to have that in writing.

7:48You cannot assume that everybody is on the same page as you. So just have things in writing. Be really clear about your communication. Be clear about communication and turnaround times, your policies and procedures, because you're allowed. You're allowed. We don't want to build a business that you despise, that you just think, why am I doing this? And that's what happens if you don't exercise these boundaries and if you don't set these standards. And I like to imagine, too, if you go into a store or you're in a working relationship with someone, when you know where you stand, what happens, there's a level of safety and trust that occurs because you know how things work.

8:27And so we get to establish that. And I like to go back to what I learned from the wonderful Brene Brown when she said this, clear is kind, unclear is unkind. So be clear, it's kind. Fire Nation, be clear, it's kind. What a takeaway. And we have so many more value bombs coming up like this when we get back from thanking our sponsors. High level, join the revolution. So Jenny, you've given us so many great things already, and we have some more things to talk about, specifically some simple shifts that can eliminate what's draining us. Because we all have things day to day, we just know them that are draining us.

11:34And then we have the things that actually give us energy, give us fire. So how can we eliminate those draining things? Again, got to get honest with yourself. Is this giving me energy or is this depleting me? And this is one of the gifts of aging. And I'm, I'm very tuned into this because this is my birthday month when we're recording this, John. And so when I get closer to it, it's like all these magical insights drop into me like wildfire. And so really get clear and honest here because we don't get a do over in this life. This is it. This is not a dress rehearsal. It's game time. Let's go. And so if there's things that are just draining you in your day-to-day business, delegate it, get an assistant, figure out what you can pass on that somebody can probably do it better than you anyway.

12:18It can free up your, your head space, which is the most valuable piece of real estate you have. You can also automate a lot better. And gosh, there's so many tools, Sean, you mentioned being in business for, you know, over a decade now I'm at 17 years in mind. And the tools that are available now that weren't available back then, it's magical. So automate as much as you can. Get out of some of that just little minutiae that you don't need to be there. Get as much out of your brain as you can and get that systems mindset working for you. And then move into this other D, delete, delete. Does this even need to be happening?

12:56Maybe it doesn't even need to be delegated. It doesn't need to be automated. It literally just needs to be deleted. If it's not moving your mission forward, if it's not completely aligned with your values, get rid of it. It's done. Gone. Press delete. Fire Nation, it can be so freeing to hit that delete button and just say, this is gone. But on that note, it seems like everybody is jumping into AI right now and saying, AI, delete everything for me or whatever they're doing. But what is specifically is your advice about how to know if A-Ride is actually right for our business? Because a lot of people just assume that it's right.

13:31It's going to solve all the problems. And of course, assuming can get you into problems in and of itself. So what's your advice here? Yeah. Yeah. I have to admit, John, when AI first came out on the scene, I wasn't so sure about this because I am a writer. I am a great communicator. And I thought, what is this? Wait, hold on. It's trying to be a writer? No. Well, first off, AI will never be as good a writer as I am because it can never fully replicate my voice or your voice. But I have to say, I have now a really great relationship with AI. And I think it can be as powerful for you as you allow it to be.

14:04And so you need to get into a relationship with this tool. If you choose to really let it get to know you, have it be a thinking partner. It's not going to replace your brain, nor do we want it to. But I often will give it a prompt like, hey, I'm thinking about this. What are some other ways that I could be thinking about this? Or here's my situation. You know me. You have a good sense of my audience. What do you see as some opportunities? Or what do you see as some missed opportunities. It's an incredible researcher. Oh my goodness. I am blown away by the level of its research and synthesizing skills.

14:34And so I'll use it as that tool just to come up with some ideas. But also I am the ultimate decider, just like you all are the ultimate deciders. When we, you know, even today I'm giving you some suggestions. I say to my clients all the time, I make suggestions, you make decisions. And so that's the same with AI. It's making suggestions to you, but you will always be the ultimate decider because you have this gorgeous brain and this gorgeous experience that is yours. And that's what makes you unique out there in the market. But please do tap into the power of AI because it can help cut some of your workload down immensely.

15:08This is contrary for many, but protecting our energy can actually lead to greater wealth and impact. Because a lot of people think, well, I've just got to be going all out, grinding my face off 24 hours. That's the only way I'm going to make more money, more impact. You're saying that maybe that's not true. Tell us more. Absolutely. Our energy is our power. This is your frequency. This is your currency. When you walk into a room, the room changes, for better or worse. And this is your opportunity to really ask yourself, what are those moves that you are making every single day and how do they impact your energy?

15:43When you are available for miracles and you are filled up so that when you walk into that room, you're not depleted, you're not complaining, you're not holding on by a thread, then you never know who you're going to meet. I have created the most incredible opportunities for myself by being awake and being aware. And I will say that some of the biggest shifts in my business have not come for me sitting behind my computer and typing things out or even doing videos on my computer. It's by meeting people in real life and having a conversation and them sensing my energy and me sensing theirs and recognizing, Hey, there's a connection here and let's see what that is.

16:22That's how some of the greatest projects have developed in my business. And that's because I'm tending to my energy. And so tend to your injury. I think John too, with this whole, and online, so wonderful, like we're so grateful that we could do these things and have these conversations, you in Puerto Rico, me in Massachusetts, right? But the in-person connection and really being able to be with people and like be with them, that right there, the impact that can happen when you have those kinds of experiences, or even if you meet somebody, you know, on Zoom, I lead a ton of sessions on Zoom with incredible clients from all over the world.

16:57I got to make sure my energy is tip top. Like I am bringing my A game to that. That right there is allowing me to make a great impact, which is making them able to make a greater impact. And then in terms of wealth, I'm talking not just financial wealth, I'm talking relationship wealth, I'm talking spiritual wealth, I'm talking physical wealth. That comes because you are tending to all pieces and parts of you. And when you tend to your energy, when you protect it like the greatest asset, then you will find that you'll live this just miraculous, joyful, incredible life. So, Jenny, if you could boil it down to one action that we can take today to design our work and life with more ease, what would that one action be?

17:41That action is, here's a mantra. You can say it. The better I take care of myself, the more wealth I create. The better I take care of myself, the more wealth I create. Live that. Use that as a litmus test, as a filter, as you make decisions. One way I do that is through meditation, through yoga, through time in nature. Each one of you should have your method for taking care of yourself so that you can better serve the people you're here to serve, be with your family, all of that. And so it's that lens of taking care of yourself. You cannot go wrong when you do that. And by the way, Fire Nation, it just feels good.

18:22It really does in every way, shape and form. When you get everything right, the sleep, the nutrition, the relationships, the exercise, the spending time with loved ones. I mean, man, it just feels right. So Jenny, if Fire Nation's really jiving with all this, they want to connect with you. What is your call to action for our listeners today? Yes. Thank you for the invitation, the opportunity. It's amazing to connect with all of you. All right. Well, I've got a great template.
