0:01Boom! Shake the room, Fire Nation. JLD here and welcome to Entrepreneurs on Fire, the only daily show interviewing the world's top entrepreneurs seven days a week. Today, we'll be breaking down functional medicine for gut, mood, skin, and hormone issues. And to drop these value bombs, I brought to Evan Brand and to EO Fire Studios. Evan is board certified in holistic nutrition and an online functional medicine practitioner. And today, we'll talk mold. We'll talk how it affects our sleep and energy, the gut-brain connection, and protocols to use to heal all of this and oh, so much more. And a big thank you for sponsoring today's episode goes to Evan and our sponsors.

Evan, say what's up to Fire Nation and share something that you believe about becoming successful that most people disagree with. Well, hello, Fire Nation. I don't remember how many years it's been since I've been here. So it's a pleasure to be back.

1:20A decade, brother. Has it? Oh my God. Holy smokes. I got my first gray hair since the last time we recorded them. So most people don't realize that they have nutrient deficiencies, toxins, neurotransmitter imbalances, gut bacterial issues, potentially even parasites that are robbing their success. And after going through 5 ,000 cases in my practice, I've been able to help pilots, moms, entrepreneurs, CEOs, executives, real estate moguls, you name it. And all these people that thought they were high performers, they didn't realize that they were actually being held back from maximum success because of these root cause strategies.

2:00And by getting the proper labs done, we've been able to show these people where their roadblocks are. And we've helped people literally make millions of dollars extra by fixing their brain fog, clearing their depression, fixing their self-confidence issues that were linked to low serotonin. So those are just a few like the root cause things holding people back. Now we've all heard to be on the lookout for mold. I mean, mold's always kind of been this scary word, but I want to talk about exactly how common mold toxicity is. Oh man, this is huge. I mean, especially in your neck of woods in Puerto Rico, you got lots of humidity and you can have concrete homes, but you could still have wood framing on the inside.

2:37You could still have drywall. You can still have wood trim. You could have nice, beautiful wood floors. And so unless you are running whole house dehumidifiers, in my opinion, most people have a mold issue. And this doesn't require a massive plumbing leak or some pipe bursting. Okay. This is not a catastrophic event. A lot of the times, and I've been in$6 million houses here in Florida that I could smell the mold before I even opened the front door. And it's because long-term moisture causes this buildup. So even the EPA estimates 85 % of commercial buildings have mold and they estimate 50 % of residential buildings have mold.

3:13Meaning if genetically you don't detox this stuff well, over time, the levels build up in your body, creates birth defects, creates neurotransmitter problems, creates insomnia. Here's one example that people can figure out right away if they have an issue. If you wake up in the middle of the night to go pee multiple times, you probably have mold, your kidneys are working overtime, and you are affecting your body. It's trying to flush this stuff out. So if you're up two, three, four, five times a night to pee, and you just blame it on age, it's probably not age. Well, you just talked about sleep a little bit.

3:44So let's talk in more detail about how mold affects our mood, our sleep, our energy. Let's dive into that. Yeah, this is huge. So in the medical journals, if you just simply Google mold or mycotoxin, which is the airborne compound you breathe in, you can type in mold, depression, mold, anxiety. The literature's there. It's been there for decades. And so when I see someone that complains, a lot of times it's entrepreneurs. Hey, man, I'm running my business, but yet I've got this brain fog or my energy at 2 p.m. I've got to have a nap or I just can't function. If you look at the underlying biochemistry, there's typically mitochondrial issues.

4:22There's low levels of B vitamins and vitamin C. There's low levels of dopamine because mold affects the part of the brain that makes dopamine. Now, it also affects your serotonin. So that perfect disaster of low brain chemistry, low serotonin and low dopamine, it feels and looks like this. You're more worried. You're more anxious. You're more irritable. You get frazzled easily. So like your kid does something and you're way more pissed than you should be. But then you also have this apathy. You're just like, I don't have the drive I used to have. I don't have the motivation. I know I need to get this stuff done, but I just can't get off the couch.

4:56That's how it manifests. I mean, Fire Nation, I know that you're listening to this and you're like, man, I kind of feel like I have at least one, if not multiple of those scenarios, which of course doesn't mean for sure that you have mold or you're having issues with that because it could just be life itself. But I mean, it's something that why would you not want to check it off the list? And it does seem like, Evan, so many more people are more ill these days than in decades past. I mean, it just seems like it's coming up a lot more and a lot more often. Can you share your thoughts on if you think this is the case?

5:29And if so, why? Yeah, it's certainly ramping up for two reasons. One is since the virus and since the injection. Okay, it's controversial. But I have a friend I've interviewed several times. His name is Dr. Pierre Corey. He's a medical doctor who's been on Joe Rogan's podcast. He's been on my podcast, the Evan Brand Show many, many times. And we talk about this subject, but essentially we are all walking around immune compromised, immune suppressed, if you will, because of either the virus or the injection. Now, many people are walking around with what's called mast cell activation. Okay. MCAS is the acronym.

6:05And this means all of a sudden you have sensitivities to everything, meaning you're more sensitive to mold. You're more sensitive to fragrances, perfume, scented laundry detergent, which by the way is toxic. Get rid of your tide, get rid of your gain. You need to be fragrance free. So get rid of your candles. But all of us are walking around with this combination of viral particles. We have bacterial issues because of the food supply being contaminated. We all have trace amounts of pesticides, even if we're eating organic. And so all that stuff damages the microbiome further creating more nutrient deficiencies.

6:37And another big smoking gun, half the population has H. pylori. This is a bacterial infection. I'm sure with what we're talking pre pre show, you've probably run labs to look for this. Now H. pylori is a acid reducing bacteria. So it takes your stomach acid essentially turns off your ability to digest and break down your food. And so you got all these people walking around with not enough nutrients to fuel their body. One question I have for you is how do you live life knowing what you know? I mean, aren't you just terrified of everything? I mean, don't you just go around just being like, I can't eat that.

7:12I can't sniff that. I can't smell that. I can't walk into that building because there's an 85 % chance that there's a ton of mold and I'm going to breathe it in. I mean, how do you live? I know. I agree with you. And a buddy of mine who runs a mold company, he admitted that he himself is a bubble boy. Like he's got a ranch. He's got like 600 acres. He just like lives out on the ranch and avoids society. I don't do that. Now I do live in a small beach town. So the population density is pretty low. I do often spend most of my time outdoors. If I have the option, like just this morning, I closed on a real estate deal and there was so much fragrance and mold coming out of this building.

7:45I told the title company, I'm not going to sign in here. Uh, thanks for your help, but I got to sign the paperwork outside. Is that okay? And like, yeah. And by the way, Oh, this is interesting. Mold, mold. and it opened up conversations. So rather than me being the weirdo, it actually inspired them. And they're like, okay, this is interesting. I didn't know that this could affect my hormones, that this cause infertility, that this could affect my breast milk if I'm breastfeeding and I have mold exposure. So I agree that yes, there is some level of maybe you could, you could classify it as paranoia, but after doing this for over a decade, I've been able to take what originally became paralyzing fear about the toxins that were making me so chronically ill, I couldn't drive for two years because I was so dizzy and had IBS for 20 years.

8:27I took all that fear and I really funneled it into more education and passion. And I hope that comes through in my voice because now I just empower people. And I'm like, look, you don't have to have this joint pain. You don't have to have this depression. You can beat this. And so I've just been able to kind of rewire my brain in a way to take what I know and empower people rather than allow it to make me so fearful that I just order groceries to my door and never step outside. And it also must make you feel a little empowered because I'm sure, and I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I'm assuming that you're doing all the right things when it comes to healing protocols and supplements, whatever that might be.

9:04So like your immune system's probably in great shape compared to most people so that when you are exposed to certain things, your body can handle it. Is there some truth there? that's super accurate and also i've been taking adaptogenic herbs for over a decade these are herbs like rhodiola which there's clinical trials helping with chronic fatigue helping with anxiety helping with depression helping with oxygenation of your tissue so i've been rotating through all different sorts of herbs for literally over a decade now and i know that it's working because i have three kids and they go to a small private school and every quarter like clockwork half the schools wiped out, stomach bug, flu, viruses, COVID, you name it.

9:45My kids, they almost have perfect attendance. And so I'm implementing things into my own life, but also into my kids. And so it's very rare knock on wood here that we're going to all get knocked down. And it's, it's a combination of things. It's going to bed at nine to nine 30. I'm candling down at night. I'm not using any bright lights at all. Yeah. You could get super geeky into the biohacks, but really a A lot of the stuff is a money grab. You don't need a$5 ,000 red light therapy device. Get out in the sun and get your butt in fresh air. If your air sucks, get an air filter. If your food sucks, try to get a farmer.

10:18So, I mean, a lot of these strategies have been perverted due to marketing. And people think you have to have mega millions to implement these strategies to improve your health. But I had a real go viral on Instagram and it was just showcasing all the things that are free, like fresh air, time spent outdoors, laughing, playing cars. Maybe you spend five bucks to buy Uno and you get to play cards and laugh with your kids. Like some of the most valuable health tools are relatively cheap or free. Fire Nation, we have a lot to talk about around this topic and more when we get back from thanking our sponsors.

10:51Starting your own business can feel intimidating. Where do you start? How do you grow? When will you start generating revenue? All valid questions. Have you ever dreamed of hopping around with kangaroos in Australia or bungee jumping over 400 feet into a canyon in New Zealand?

12:09I have, and I did. Oh, and I also cuddled up with a koala. True story. That's right. Kate and I toured Australia and New Zealand with some good friends of ours who knew these places well, and we think that's the best way to travel as if you're a local. This also includes staying in actual homes, which we always do on our travels thanks to Airbnb. It's a perfect way to truly immerse yourself in a new place. And what better time to not only enjoy someone else's home, but to also have others enjoy yours? Think about it. Next time you jet set for a weekend, a week, two weeks, or six, consider making some extra cash by hosting your own home on Airbnb.

12:48Your home might be worth more than you think. Find out how much at airbnb.com slash host. Evan, we're back and let's talk about the gut-brain connection. What the heck is that? Yeah, this is huge. And believe it or not, you have more than a gut brain. You have a gut thyroid. You have a gut skin. You have a gut lung. You have a gut testicle axis. There's literally a gut connection to almost every organ in the body. And we're discovering new connections to the gut all the time. The gut brain access specifically said in the shortest, simplest way possible, the gut is controlling your cognitive and behavioral issues.

13:27Meaning if you have a young child who has ADHD or ADD, it's not a deficiency of medication that's going to fix that child's ADHD. What we have to do is investigate their gut. Half my practice is children. When we run a lab on a child who is diagnosed with ADHD, let's just take a five-year-old, for example. We test his urine. We test his stool. all of a sudden we find he has candida overgrowth. That's why he's in the pantry all day. Mommy, daddy, can I have a snack? Because he has sugar cravings, because he has yeast overgrowth. And when we fix the issue in the gut, all of a sudden the brain improves.

14:00These kids that are on the verge of getting kicked out of school or they're in special education or even kids that are nonverbal, when we test those kids, there's always a gut issue and the gut is driving the upstream inflammation and cognitive dysfunction. And so by number one, test, not guess with your health. And then when you get the proper data, you can build a protocol that makes sense to fix the gut. And this can be achieved within a few months. Now we have some cases where it takes a year to fix the brain, but you know, these are kids that have had nonverbal issues, kids that can't potty train kids that can't ride bikes.

14:33I mean, I see some severe stuff, but in most cases, what you need to know about the gut brain access is that your mood issue, your anxiety, it's not going to be fixed by the psychiatrist or their meds. It's going to be fixed by fixing your gut. We had a case of a lady, 20 years worth of depression fixed in six weeks. I gave her no herbs for depression, no stuff for her mood. All I did is clear the parasites. She had traveled internationally. She had several parasites. We cleared those out of her gut using herbs. I get on the follow-up call with her. Hey, how are you doing? And how's your mood?

15:04Oh, I'm not depressed. Like you were depressed for 20 years. What do you mean? And it was just gone. So it can really happen just like that. Fire Nation, think about that. I mean, this is where action taking is so key because again, we're all walking around exposed to life, but there are things that we can do about it. Now we already talked a little bit about this, but I really want to do a deep dive on proper labs. Like what do you consider proper labs and how can we get them done? And first, what I'll say is your conventional doctor is not going to run this stuff. So your first question is going to be, well, how do I get my doctor to order these?

15:35They're not going to, I had another reel that was actually really, really fun. And it's funny because I didn't even talk in this video. It was 20 seconds long. And all I did is show you the four labs your doctor won't run. It got 4.6 million views. It's hilarious. And here are the labs. Number one, organic acids testing. This is a urine test. It can be ordered and shipped worldwide. We have people in Dubai, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Latin America, South America, Puerto Rico, you name it, like literally everywhere. Everywhere you can order this stuff. This can get mailed to you. So you pee in the cup, you ship it back to the lab.

16:08Now with that urine, you can add stuff on, meaning we can test heavy metals. We can test chemicals and pesticides. We can test mold toxin to see what you may be storing in your body. I already alluded to the mitochondria. So you can get so much data from one cup of urine. I know it's pretty hard to believe. Number two, GI map stool test. I don't get paid to tell you this, but it's the best. I've used other competitors, it's the best. It's one stool sample, not the funnest thing, but it's better than a decade ago. We had to collect three samples. OK, so it's only one sample. Get it back to the lab.

16:40That's where we find parasites. We find bacteria. We find gut inflammation. We find intestinal bleeding. We can detect cancers and other things before conventional tests will even do that. And then I would say, number three, we could argue hormones. And that's going to be done either through saliva or urine. We can do blood as well. But if we're talking to the international global audience, it's easiest to do urine. you pee on a strip of paper, it dries out, you send it to the lab and we measure testosterone, estrogen, estradiol. Most people, especially men, we have lower levels of hormones than ever before.

17:13And this is why you see the fertility crisis. This is why you see so many people depressed. This is why you see so many overweight, obese people. It's hormone issues combined with these toxins. So those are the top three. And let's talk about the protocols that we can use to heal. And I love that word heal because at the end of the day, like that's what our body is able to do if we just give it the right supplements, the right nutrients, the right processes. So what protocols can we use? Yeah, and I love the word heal too because it just shows that if you remove the roadblocks, your body's pretty dang good at helping itself.

17:49But we have a spoonful of microplastics in our bodies. We have all these different compounds that add up to knock us down. So the protocol could be some infrared sauna. Sure, we can sweat some of these toxins out, but ultimately it's going to be a combination. It's me personally as a provider. It's much, much less than other functional medicine guys. Most people have been to 10 or 20 doctors before they call me. They're taking 20 to 40 supplements a day. I get that list down to about five or six. So I'll just role play with you. Let's say JLD has some parasites and candida. maybe he's got some h pylori he's a little tired in the afternoon his sleep's a little wonky okay so we're going to give you some adrenal support get adrenals on board so you can handle a full day of back-to-back calls and not crash right and then we're going to give you some herbs for the infections maybe two or three different bottles of stuff to fix the herbs maybe you have dark circles under your eyes or you're noticing you're real chemically sensitive or you're reacting badly to coffee you're getting real anxious and jittery or you can't even tolerate a sip of alcohol because you just feel so weird.

18:51Your liver needs help. We might help your liver. We might help your kidneys, your lymphatic. So there's something for that. Maybe you're burping, you're bloated, you're gassy after your meals, or you have IBS. We're going to give you some extra enzymes and acids to rebuild what was messed up by the infections. And then we see, oh crap, there's metals, there's pesticides, there's mold. Now we need binders. So we need to use clay. We need to use charcoal. We need to use things to grab onto these toxins and pull it out through the stool. And oh, by the way, you had 26 different nutrient deficiencies.

19:19So here's a broad spectrum, professional grade multi that fills in all the gaps. That's as simple as it can be, but that could be transformative. Transformative is the word Fire Nation. I mean, I've been working with a functional medicine doctor for nine years now. Every year I get the big five tests to break everything down and I get a six month plan. And if we need to retest at that point, then we retest and then we just adjust, pivot and keep getting better. So Evan, if Fire Nation wants to connect with you, wants to learn more about what you have going on, what is your call to action for our listeners today?

19:52Sure. Well, hey, by the way, it's a pleasure to reconnect. And it's so great to hear that you've been in and actively working in the functional medicine space on yourself because so many people have no idea what they're up against. And they don't know why they feel like crap and they're beating their head against the wall. So I'm so proud of you to actually be a beacon of light for that. That is super cool. I did not know that before today. So I'm proud of you. I knew that you look good, but now I know why you look good. I mean, I'm 45 years old. Let's go. Good deal, man. Got to keep it strong.

20:24So yeah, I appreciate the opportunity. I have a podcast that's been on the air for 13 years. I interview other practitioners. I think I had you on. Yes, you did. We should do it. We should do it again since it's been so long. Okay, so that'd be fun. So we'll do that again. And so the Evan Brand show, it's totally free. If you want to subscribe, we'd love to have you listen and learn more about your health, stuff that you're not going to hear on mainstream news and stuff that truthfully you're not even going to find on Google. Okay. That's just the reality of the censorship right now. And then I have a group coaching programs.

20:52I have one-on-one consultations that are available. I teach practitioners how to build an online telemedicine practice. So I've got a few different things that I can do to help people. But ultimately, even if it's not with me, I just want you to get the data. I want you to test, not guess with your health. and that's evanbrand.com is the website. Test, not guess. And Fire Nation, you're the average of the five people you spend the most time with. You've been hanging out with EB and JLD today, so keep up the heat. And for links to everything we talked about, visit eofire.com, type Evan in the search bar and the show notes page will pop right up.
