28Who's ready to rock today, Fire Nation? world. And he's also the author of AI Writer. Write 100 times faster with ChatGPT. And today, Fire Nation, we will be talking about AI and really how the content is mediocre. But if you understand prompts, that can be the game changer. And of course, will AI replace writers and so much more. And a big thank you for sponsoring today's episode goes to John and our sponsors. The Gold Digger podcast hosted by Jenna Kuchar is brought to you by the HubSpot podcast network, the audio destination for business professionals. The Gold Digger podcast helps you discover your dream career with productivity tips, social strategies, business hacks, inspirational stories, and so much more.

John, say what's up to Fire Nation and share something that you believe about becoming successful that most people disagree with. Hello, Fire Nation.

50John here. And what I would say most people would disagree with is that the future of success will be automating your own job through the power of AI. And Fire Nation, that's why, as you heard during the introduction, the topic today is how AI can create content better than 99 % of humans. And John, as we kind of talked about in the pre-interview chat, AI, it's just all the rage right now. But your stance is that most content from AI is very mediocre. Tell us more. The tipping point for AI content is when you can't kill the difference between a top 1 % writer, for instance, and the AI written content.

44and for most people, they think we're not already there, but we are. And let me explain why. So if you go to chat GPT and you type in, write me an article about how to become a successful entrepreneur, it'll do it. But you'll still be able to tell that it is AI written because it's not quite the same as when a human writes it. But on the other hand, if you were to go to chat GPT and say, write me a 200-word blog post opening to targeting beginning entrepreneurs where I tell a story about how becoming an entrepreneur is like a bamboo shoot growing from the ground. Use intensely vivid language and create an atmosphere of excitement.

56Use rhetorical language, informal language, make it conversational, and style to create an intense sense of engagement with the reader. I just did that off the top of my head, but I promise you, if you were to enter a problem like that, you would get something that sounds 100 % human. So the point that I'm making is that if your AI content doesn't sound human, it's because the only reason why is because you don't know how to ask, how to prompt the AI for content that is completely unrecognizable to be AI-written. See, Fire Nation, this is what I really want to dive deep into with John here, because understanding prompts is going to be not just a big factor, but a huge factor in your success or failure with AI.

04So, John, let's talk about some of these differences between a good prompt and a bad prompt. I mean, we've kind of been discussing this a little bit already, but I really want to dive deep on how Fire Nation can put this into action. One of the big differences is length. So a bad prompt is 10 to 20 words. A good prompt is almost always going to be 100 to 200 words. And that's way more than what most people put in. It should have steps. It should have instructions. It should have examples. and you should be thinking when you write the prompt for the first time, writing this prompt was more effort than actually writing what I'm telling it to write.

01If you feel that way, you're on the right track. I'll spend 10 hours writing a prompt to do an opening. But here's why that's a smart example. and never have to write an opening again after I write that prompt. From now on out, every time I want to write an opening, I copy, paste, send, and it writes the opening. See, Fire Nation, I think that's a great point that John made at the end there because a lot of people would be like, well, if you're spending so much time writing this prompt, what's the point? Because you could just write the thing. But it's like going back to everything that we do that's efficient.

44It's like, do you create a process? Do you create a system to do things so that you don't have to do them every single day for the rest of your life, but that you can just say, hey, I've created a process for this. Now it's going to go and I have it there to just execute immediately upon. So I love what John said at the end there, which is like now anytime he wants to replicate that, he has it. So he spent the hours to perfect it. Now he can just copy, paste, and he's off to that next perfect prompt. So Fire Nation, we have some important things to talk about when it comes to AI and its future when we get back from thanking our sponsors.

23I'm all about lifestyle freedom. I wanna be able to do what I want, when I want, and there's no better time to kick your feet up poolside than the summertime. But to achieve this lifestyle freedom I speak of, you and your team need to work smarter, not harder. That's why we're so excited about HubSpot's integrated AI tech. It's helping teams of all types and sizes automate the more tedious parts of running a business. With AI-powered tools built into HubSpot CRM, you can pull reports, sift through loads of data to see what's working and what's not, and even craft content all in a flash. In fact, recent research shows that marketers are already saving significant time spent on manual administrative tasks.

00I'm talking slicing time in half thanks to AI. from five hours to 2.5 hours a day, which amounts to almost four weeks per year. With all that extra time, you could be exploring new hobbies, spending more time with your family, and enjoying that happy hour vibe every single day. Learn more and get started today at HubSpot.com. 9:20Go to shopify.com slash onfire to take your e-commerce business to new heights. Shopify.com slash onfire. John, we're back. And one thing that I love about you is you are such a practitioner. You test, you study results, you adjust, you test again, you rinse and repeat until you have a formula that crushes it. So I want to get specific. How many prompts does one need to write a good article? You need about five or six. You need one for the headline. You need one for the opening. You need one for the closing. You need one for the body. And you need one to tell it to edit itself. Those would be the prompts.

14Headline, opening, closing, body, edit, thyself. Can you actually write thyself and wouldn't know that you're talking about itself. It would. Yeah, it totally would. Oh, I love that. So let's maybe give a real world example. I love these because I think Fire Nation can really put themselves in the position when they can hear from you about a time it really works. And maybe you, John, or one of your clients, talk about how you've utilized what we're talking about here today in a real world environment that really gave you success. Here's what I'll tell you. Smart Blogger is the biggest writing website in the world.

59All right, we have over 6 million readers. A percentage of our content is now being written using the process I'm explaining right now. And what I would challenge you to do is if you go to smartborder.com, try to figure out which ones are AI-written and which ones aren't. And I'm going to tell you, I can't tell. And I'm as good at this as anyone. Okay? So that's how far we've come, is AI is now writing a percentage. I won't tell you what percentage. It's not 100%. and it's not 0%, but it's now writing a significant percentage of our content. And we're now producing three times more content with the same writing stuff.

58Is the world going to be a better place because of AI in your experience? Every technology produces a different world that is both better and worse.

17whether there will be a net gain, I hope so. I think that's what we always hope whenever we invent a new technology. But look at social media. Is the world better or worse because of social media? Both. Both. And I think that's going to be true here as well. It will be both better and worse. What in your mind are two of the biggest benefits you're seeing right now in AI? What I love about AI is that it enables me as a top writer to produce content in less time that is still 100 % mine. I used ChatGPT to write a book in two days, a 200-page book. I prompted everything. It's 100 % mine. It's written in my writing style because I had ChatGPT analyzed my writing before I started, and now I have a prompt profile to teach it how to write like me.

38Okay? And then I fed it the ideas. I created the outline. But then once I did that, once I'd done all of the hard creative work, I just said, now go, write it for me. And it did. And so what that means is I spend less time putting words on the page and more time thinking through the original thoughts. And I like that. What's another benefit? More money. right now, our employees at Smart Blurber are at least three times more productive. So we're giving three times the output for the same salary. The same thing is true of my work. If anything, the multiply is higher. For me, I would say AI has probably 20x my output since it came out.

50And I'm earning the same amount for each of the outputs. So that means it's 20x my income. Okay. people think that just because something is faster means you'll be paid less. In practice, it's not how the world works. If I produce the same value in less time, then I make more money. And that's a huge advantage right now. What are two negatives? If you were at the beginning of your career, what we all do so that when you learn to play music, for example, you start by imitating the masters, by learning how to play sheet music of masters in the past. With writers, beginning writers, a lot of times you start your career writing content with no original ideas, where you're just learning how to produce good content.

02That's going to go away. And so are all of those jobs. So if that's all you're doing is producing good content, if you're playing someone else's music, you're going to be out of a job. And it's going to happen within a year. What's another negative besides replacing jobs that you foresee potentially with AI or that you're seeing right now? All technology has a tendency to make us more lazy. With social media, a lot of people said, I don't need to go see my friends in person anymore. I watch their stories, right? Because it's a whole lot harder to go meet my friend for lunch than it is to watch their story on Instagram.

52With AI, I think a lot of people are going to replace human relationships with AI relationships. And the world as a whole may lose some of its humanity. So the final question is something that I think is on the mind of a lot of content creators. Will AI replace writers? Will it replace content creators? What AI is going to replace is the word processor. So rather than going into Microsoft Word or into Google Docs to write an article or an email, anything, you're going to go to your AI and tell it what to write. And what that means is it's not – let me compare it to a painter. It's not going to replace the painter.

59It's going to replace the paintbrush. Okay? So what that means is that, no, I think writers are still going to be around. but your job is not going to be to put words on the page. Your job is going to be to think and to refine your thoughts and to be articulate and creative. If you can do that, I think there's still a bright future for you. If you can't, it's going to be hard. I'm not sure if you've heard that somewhere, but if you haven't, I think you need to coin it and own it because to me, that's a fantastic way of putting it. AI is not going to replace the painter, but the paintbrush. It's just so simple and so clear.

49And John, we talked about a lot of really important things today. What is the one key takeaway you really want to make sure our listeners get from our chat? This is a key skill. Once upon a time, I mean, 20 years ago, we used to laugh at people who didn't know how to use a cell phone. In a year, you're going to get laughed at if you don't know how to use AI. So it's absolutely essential to learn this. That's why I'm writing about it. Smart blogger, that's why I wrote a book about it, is I think this is a crucial skill where you won't realize it, But you will become the old fogey who everyone laughs about if you don't learn how to do this.

42So you mentioned it right there, but one more time for Fire Nation. If they want to learn more about this from you, if they want to connect with you, what are their best ways to consume your content? So there is, I wrote a book about this with some of my best prompts. if you go to smartblogger.com slash fire. I put a special link up for you guys. You can get it for$1. And enjoy.
