57Sids, say what's up to Fire Nation and share something that you believe about becoming successful that most people disagree with. It's all about failing fast and failing forward. You know, the entire system, the society wants everyone to be perfect and not giving that space for them to explore new things. So I think that's the point that I want to make. Like, you know, it's open to be open to failing fast and failing forward and be a one mistake learner. Because Fire Nation, that amazing opportunity, it's out there, it's waiting for you. But if you're spending so much time on the wrong thing that just keeps failing, you're failing slowly, you'll never get to that one thing.

39So failing fast can be an absolute gem for all the obvious reasons. And as I mentioned in the intro, we're talking about how to redefine our broken education and employment system for good for once and for all. So there are 11, count them, 11 problems with the current system of education. And we're going to do a deep dive on a couple of these, Fire Nation. But Sid, why don't we start by going through these 11? And then maybe I'll pick out one and maybe you'll pick out one or two that we can talk a little more in depth about. And just as a preface to what I'm going to say is I don't come from the formal education system myself.

14I dropped out of college when I was 18 years old. I'm a musician turned digital coach now. So I went a few years into music production, making music, and then I went on to make on mobile phone applications. And then I got into digital marketing and it's like an Alice in Wonderland story. So these 11 problems, what I'm going to reveal to you is primarily based on what I faced as I was going through the system and how I decided to step out of it. And again, thanks to my parents, they were open enough to allow me to pursue my path and discover myself. And I'm so glad that it has turned out to be an amazing journey.

49so what I see is the the first problem in the education system is lack of vision of the future a lot of stuff that's being taught in school is really not relevant to where the world is heading and the more I tune into the futurists and look at where the world is going see as humans we are all tuned to progress at a very linear scale but technology is growing at an exponential scale now with the metaverse and so many other things that are happening so the first problem is lack of vision of the future the second problem of the education system it is that it is built on a foundation of memorization okay memorization based learning so if somebody is able to retain more information in their head and then bring it out in the exam on on that particular day they are they are graded as you know the a players of the class so memorization based learning in a world where today we can literally Google for anything and everything, I think fundamentally the concept is wrong.

51I mean, now kids are searching for stuff on YouTube and Google and searching for just by using voice search. So it is not about memorization. It's all about being able to access the information through all the noise that is there, which is, I think, a better skill, which the education system does not really go into. The third aspect is, you know, outdated topics. You know, I'm looking at, I'm in India right now, and I'm looking at engineering students who are learning transistors and stuff that's like completely outdated. And, you know, it's like, I don't even know, why is it even there in the textbooks?

24And because someone has put that into the curriculum many years ago, and it happens to be there. I mean, no one has really gone into thinking about, okay, what can we do to revamp this? And there's a huge lag. You know, by the time something gets approved and gets into a curriculum and a system, you know, things are going to change so fast. So that's the third problem. The fourth problem is the evaluation system. The way that the whole grading happens. Honestly, I feel like, you know, that's the biggest problem there. You know, for example, if somebody is really a good student and he's, you know, he has a bad day on the day of his final exam.

01I mean, what can he do? I mean, you cannot evaluate somebody just based on one day or a few days in a year and yes even though there may be uh different forms of evaluation saying that you know on assignments and things like that but i still feel that just based on marks is uh it's fundamentally there's a flaw somewhere over there because i know that in when i was in class uh you know i used to be an outstanding student in school i used to stand outside class most of the time playing you know sports and other things. I was good in so many other things, but not in the so-called main academic stuff.

36And that's the problem because everyone is evaluated based on the intellectual stuff, on the academia stuff, but not on other areas of life. The fifth problem of the education system is in the classroom format. I'm a big fan of Montessori myself and I'm a father of two boys, so I'm really giving them a different atmosphere where they don't really need to sit in a boring classroom looking at a teacher and speaking to them where they can you know be in an environment where they can learn with other kids by collaboration so the the classroom format there's something it worked well in the industrial era but i think now with the digital era this also needs to change even this the teacher-student ratio needs to change that's the fifth problem now the sixth problem is actually a big one it is the teaching style you know one of my mentors he says that it is not about what you teach but it's about the way you teach it and and who you are as a person like even in my school I remember there were like five to six teachers that used to teach me but I really had my favorites you know I had like my one or two teachers who I could really connect with because of not what they taught but the way that they taught it and I think that's also a big problem in the education system because they people just come with the you know with the b edge or the image they just come as a qualified teacher without understanding you know what is teaching you know what how to deliver the knowledge how do you create an engagement with students and there's a whole subject on accelerated learning techniques which uh which i learned over the last few years which i see very clearly that the education system is not you know having that kind of a system to teach the teachers how to teach you know that's this problem number six Problem number seven is we have seen this.

22The current education system is based on competition. Competition versus collaboration. Collaboration is tagged as cheating in exams, for example. But competition is so cutthroat that they get into the rat trees right from day number one. And every kid is working their way up, trying to score great marks and trying to show to the world that they're better than the other. and you know that rat tree is actually continues into the employment system which we'll come to later but i think that that whole aspect of uh you know survival of the fittest being injected right from kindergarten where you know parents have to go and stand in a line to get their 18 month old kid admitted in a school based on how much they know at that age i mean that's ridiculous so you know competition starts right at the 18th month okay now the eighth problem what i see is the schooling system does not teach values, even though there may be moral science classes and, you know, extra, you know, community service based activities.

23But, you know, if you look at, if you ask anybody, what do you want in this world? What do you want in life? You know, people normally would say, I want to be more healthy. I want to have good relationships. I want to feel good about myself. I want to feel more happy. Now, these things are not taught in school. the values of human life are really not injected at a strategic level. It's just a period or just a class that's sitting there. Okay, number nine I see is, especially here in India, and I'm pretty sure it happens all over the world is, I mean, there's a huge aspect of donation and capita fees and running through so many different hoops and paying through the nose to just get a kid in a well-established university.

04And that's like one of the biggest scams in the world, you know, is people collecting so much of money just for a piece of paper. And all of that stuff that goes, all the red tape connected to it is a big, big issue of the education system, which has evolved over time. And I'm so glad that, you know, COVID is kind of the catalyst that has shown to the world the cracks in the system. And we are beginning to see that. And many parents are beginning to take that one step back and like, okay, you know, realizing where the mistake is in the whole system number 10 is a lack of personalization it's like one size fits all all kids like sir ken robinson says in the ted talk you know batched based on age group and it's like a conveyor belt coming out like a factory model so there's lack of personalization in the education system unless you know it is a different form or method of education say like Montessori or Waldorf there are many other systems and finally number 11 is the 11th problem is yes schooling system encourages community service community this community that you know for all kinds of activities but the schooling system does not really teach community building as such and that's that's a huge you know aspect of even what I do in my business today I actually I tell people to build communities because when you are a community builder it becomes so much more meaningful than just going and doing some service for a few hours and coming back.

31So these are the 11 problems. I'll just recap. Lack of vision for the future, memorization-based learning, outdated topics, an evaluation system that is really not catered to every student, the classroom format, the teaching style, the competition versus collaboration aspect, life values not taught, donation, capital fees, lack of personalization, and lack of teaching students the skills of building and nurturing communities. I hope I've gone through the whole list. John, what do you think about it? The whole list is fantastic. I mean, the one that I just want to circle back to, which is one that really does just disgust me, is the outdated topics.

07Because here's the problem. We are living in a world that's moving so fast, so, so fast. And here you have people who just want to teach what they know. They don't want to necessarily learn new things. They want to teach what they already know or what's easily learned through a textbook. And so when you have that happening, you are literally impeding the progress of what the future is. I mean, when these kids could literally be learning about the blockchain and Web3 and smart contracts and like things that actually matter now, they're learning about things that are ancient, ancient, useless technology.

40And it's just so, so sad. So let's quickly have you kind of maybe pinpoint one that you think is really, you know, egregious of all 11. Obviously, 11 are all big problems. but then I want to get into the 10 problems with the employment system. Yeah, for me, the one that stands out from this list is the teaching style. You know, so I've learned a few things about accelerated learning, and I learned from one of my mentors. And so they say that the magic in any form of learning, it is not in the information, but it is all about creating an environment of learning. So, see, you cannot change anybody, but if you change the environment, they can change.

23So the teaching style is more about creating the right context because there are two aspects of information, of knowledge. There is content and there's context. And if you look at most of the schooling system, the context is not really strong. When I say context is the ambience, the environment, the interaction, the kind of things that you can get the students to do together, which is really not there in the fundamental system itself. So the teaching style is not about just standing in front of the class and just giving information, but it's about creating a transformation for the students by putting them in the right environment for them to learn on their own.

57So I think that's one point that can actually be the most, yeah. So let's move into the 10 problems with the employment system. Whatever I explained in the education system, this actually continues into the employment system. And we have seen this happen. I'm sure in your community, in my community, like many of them are beginning to rediscover themselves after working in the corporate world for 10, 15, 20 years because of these 10 problems. You know, the first problem I see in the whole employment system is most companies, now I'm going to be shifting gears into companies and moving away from educational institutions to the corporate institutions, they're mostly profit-focused and very few companies are mission-focused.

36And you can actually count the number of companies that are really driving forward a bigger mission than just making money. So when you have that kind of starting point in a company, then what happens is that culture gets into the entire organization where even the people working there, they're just treated as a number on an Excel sheet, okay? Just as there is no human value connected with it. They're just a person on the payroll. So that's the first problem with the employment system that I see. The second problem I see is that the rat race continues from the education system. So in the education system, if you actually get a good degree in an Ivy League school, then you get a higher pay package.

20And then once you come into that role, I mean, as you're working your way up the corporate ladder, the rat race continues over there. So right to come into a point of you leading an organization as a CEO, you need to go through so many different political hoops to come to that stage. The third problem that I see in the employment system is even the hiring process. In most companies, a very industrial-era hiring process. and I'm so glad that now some of the big companies in the world are beginning to look beyond just the CVs and the resumes and are picking people based on aptitude skill sets and attitude and again because of the way education system portrays the whole image that only if you have this piece of paper of an MBA or a well-qualified thing you'll be in a you know good company so that actually continues into the industrial hiring process number four the fourth problem I see is most of the people, in spite of going through a four-year, five-year, six-year, seven-year, in some cases, like a 10-year journey of education, they actually start relearning on the job.

26And I know many of my close friends, whatever they studied in college, they're not applying any of that knowledge in their job. In fact, they got the job because they had got a degree in that, but then the job required a completely different learning process. They had to literally relearn on the job and they're not applying that knowledge whatever they learn so that's the fourth problem is a lot of people are relearning relearning is good but then when the knowledge is not applied then that's the problem over there so education the employment system is having that big issue number five is we are seeing this we are experiencing the great resignation in the world right now people having unfulfilled careers so it starts off with somebody in the family saying hey why don't you become a you know why don't you become this and they get on this path of education and then they end up going through that entire journey and getting a job and after five six years into the job they're beginning to realize is this really what i subscribed for and and feeling unfulfilled i did not i mean most people think like that right that i that i did not know that i would be in a job which is giving me so much of stress so that is the fifth problem number six is again the financial systems coming in here.

43I've seen in India here, I mean pretty much this case in most parts of the world is once you get into a big company, the banks open you up to a lot of loans and people get into this whole EMI trap because of the entire system. So the employment system in one way keeps people trapped in the system because they have to continue working to pay those mortgages and the equated monthly installments for whatever they're getting into and they get into most people get into that because of lack of proper financial you know education in the schooling days which schooling does not teach anything about that on how to manage money and personal finances so they get into the EMI trap which continues in the employment system that keeps them trapped number seven is I see that the big companies are literally depleting the environment.

36You know, like companies, organizations where like 10 ,000, 15 ,000, 20 ,000 employees working, the amount of plastics that's used, the amount of electricity. And I mean, overall, and we've seen this transformation happen in the last two years, ever since COVID happened. We have seen a lot of these bigger companies moving into work from home. They have cut down so much on their infrastructure and their operational costs. and that has actually helped in the environment. And so the typical corporate world is really depleting the environment. So environment depleting infrastructure and habits, that's a big challenge of the whole employment system.

15Number eight is stress and pressure. Again, continuing on all the stuff that people need to go through to really get to some stage in their career. And that's why we see the rise in different health issues like diabetes, stress, and disease. If you break the word, it is dis-ease. And when people are living in that constant mode of stress and pressure that affects health. And see, there's a difference here. I work really hard, but for me, it's what I love to do. I'm sure you also are experiencing that, John. When you really love what you do, it's passion. But when you're doing something which you don't love, it just gets into you.

56and that turns into stress that affects every part and that affects immunity and every aspect of health. That's the eighth issue. Number nine is I've seen a lot of, even my friends who just gone to the corporate world, there's a lack of innovation in their life. I mean, they just go paycheck to paycheck, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., check-in, check-out, weekends with family, and that's it. It's just a very, you know, monotonous and a life that lacks innovation. And I think innovation happens only when you're in that mode where you're okay with the unknown and trying something new and pushing the boundaries every single month.

40And usually the employment system does not really cater to that. And finally, number 10 is I see a lot of people are living in fear, especially now with the world that's changing. people who are not really adapting to things and who are very rigid in their thinking they're living in fear so it's no more about the intellectual quotient yes there is an emotional quotient that's important but the buzzword now is the adaptability quotient it does not matter where you come from all that matters is where you where you need to go so the 10 problems of the employment system are you know most companies are profit focused the rat race the industrial at a hiring process.

19A lot of people are relearning on the job and not really applying what they learned on the job. Unfulfilled careers, financial EMI traps, environment depleting infrastructure, stress and pressure, lack of innovation, and living in fear. So this is what I could put down, John, as I was contemplating on the employment system. And there's so much there, Fire Nation. I mean, one thing that I really want to see going forward is just everybody in general have a more focus on environment because you literally have to be blind, deaf, and dumb to not see that we are doing real permanent damage to this world.

57And it's really scary. And if we don't come together at some point soon, like now and start working together, I mean, there's a reckoning to come. So I know you went through those. I mean, this took some time of thinking and assimilation and I've laid it down. Of course, this is just a draft structure, but it could manifest in which way and form in the years to come.

16So I think the first step to really fixing this problem for good is to rethink parenting. It all starts with parents who have kids. And what I mean by that is like, for example, I'm a father of two boys and now I'm starting to think, do I really need to put them in the formal stream of education? And what if not? And my first son is nine years old right now and I've pulled him out of the regular schooling system. He went to Montice City for the first few years. and I would just think okay if I had to design a new life and a new curriculum for him so that he can be a good contributor to the world 10-15 years from now what should he be doing so based on his aptitude and what he likes I just decided okay let's just focus on three subjects let's just focus on music to enhance his capabilities of creativity let's focus on math to bring that intellectual stuff and specifically Vedic math and number three he's focusing on coding you know so coding music and math is uh it's kind of what my wife and i we thought about and we said okay let's just focus on this and spend more time with him and explore other things and allow him to explore himself so i think it it takes a lot of courage because uh my my fellow uh you know members of our family and my my cousins and other their their whole world view of how their kids need to be is way different from what i'm thinking right now so i think the first step is to rethink parenting itself it starts with the parent and step two is to rethink schooling you know just an extension of whatever i said so when i say rethink schooling is you know i've seen a lot of a lot of parents are homeschooling their kids and uh and essentially what i'm also doing right now in my communities i'm building a community of teachers so instead of me putting my kids into regular school why not i send my kids to other members who are experts in in different topics so if he has to learn about stock markets let him go to somebody who's an expert if he has to learn about health and get better and healthy and let him go to somebody who's already doing that let him go to a mentor who's an implementer you know not just you know some course that is uh getting going to get him some credits so go to rethink schooling as a second step the third step is uh we need to start rethinking career paths it's no more about the doctor engineer lawyer and you know the regular jobs that very industrial era jobs i mean we're looking at drone operators and probably people are going to be doing a lot of 3D modeling for the metaverse and you know people are designing all kinds of new tech gadgets to support in this fast-changing world and also I'm looking at the other end of the spectrum you know I think some of the carriers in the future are going to be more towards even helping people get unplugged from this matrix you know going back into the offline you know farming and agriculture hydroponics there are so many other topics that are you know so non-mainstream that they can be really contributing career paths in the future that's that's step three rethink career paths step number four is once we rethink parenting once we rethink schooling once we rethink about career paths then we need to start creating more digital leaders more digital teachers you know like what you're doing john you're reaching out to so many thousands of people and inspiring with your podcast and planting those ideas of new possibilities and i think that's what we need to do it's not like a one two three four people thing if an entire community an army of digital leaders evolve in this world then it'll lead to step five we can see all these leaders build their own ecosystems or what i call as micro learning tribes so i have my small little tribe called internet lifestyle hub we have and i have many members in my community who are creating these small islands of knowledge you know the internet is like a big ocean facebook is one big continent sitting out there and all i'm trying to tell my students like why don't you create your own mini universe create your small little island in this on this internet and build your own ecosystem so that is the fifth step or the to the solution okay so once this happens what what i'm seeing is the sixth step is this may not happen right now to the extent that I can see but it's already in the beginning phase imagine these ecosystems micro learning ecosystems they're going to start collaborating with each other somebody has a tribe of 500 to 1000 students another person has a tribe of 500 ,000 students they start to cross pollinate students between each other's tribes, between each other's digital tribes.

53When that happens, what happens is, you know, the students will start to see the value in collaboration. Each of their tribes will start to grow because of the partnerships that have been created. And then what happens is, step number seven is, leaders, these people who are creating their tribes and communities online, will start to have more fulfilled careers. Like for me, I mean, when I wake up every morning, it's no more work. Even for you, John, I'm pretty sure that's the case. You wake up every day, you're having a conversation with some amazing people, and you're, you know, nurturing fire nation, and they're all looking forward to what's next.

32So there's never a day where there is no excitement. There's always something new to give back to the tribe, and that becomes such a fulfilling career itself. Like you've mentioned that even in your book. Yeah. And number eight, step number eight is when more and more people are having fulfilled careers built around serving others and building communities with their expertise we are going to see students have more fulfilled learning experiences i'm going to repeat that when leaders have fulfilled careers students will have fulfilled experiences when teachers have fulfilled careers students will have fulfilled experiences and it's students are going to be learning from mentors who are implementers, not just somebody who's going to read out of a textbook.

18So when the teachers are sharing their knowledge based on their own experience, they're going to create that kind of amazing atmosphere for the students, which leads me to step number nine is when that happens, when students are having more fulfilled learning experiences, that's going to create massive opportunities for growth. I'm talking about personal growth, career growth, business growth and whichever area or whichever is the niche that you know these micro tribes are are carrying forward and when that's creating massive opportunities for growth that leads me to step number 10 is the personal growth it will actually impact community growth and I'm seeing this happen in my community now we have like a lot of people getting you know results financial results personal breakthroughs and now they're starting to work with each other and they're formed like new friendships i'm seeing this happen by community like uh people have come into they just come into my my course and they go through it and then they discover other members and they are suddenly beginning to form new found friendships within this tribe because of the values in this tribe because of similar value similar vision and they are beginning to you know disconnect from their older friends because they don't connect with them anymore they have evolved as a person so when the students are evolving when the growth is happening when people are growing on a personal level that also impacts community growth it impacts society and so on and finally the step number 11 what I see is when this happens we are going to see the community growth that impacts the entire economy itself and this is what I say the way that I look at it is I would say there is going to be a golden age that will happen probably around 2027 to 2030 when we have a lot of teachers teaching their students, building communities with passion.

10So it's like where the masses will accept this as a new form of education. You know, once it reaches that tipping point, I think that's when you're going to see a world where everyone is aligned to what they really want to do. They are not afraid or living in fear of what can happen in the future because they are always going to be supported by fellow community members and these micro-learning tribes. And when I say digital tribes, yes, people connect digitally, but they will also take it to the offline world. And when that happens, yeah, we're going to live in a golden age where people, families are actually going to be living more happy and prosperous lives.

51So those are my 11 steps, John. Now, obviously, all 11 are critical to implement, you know, to fix these problems. But if you were told, you know, let's just say by some magic genie that you could only start with just one of these, which step would you choose to start with? I will start with helping people build digital ecosystems, like how they can build communities, digital communities. So if somebody is an expert in, let's say, you know, in yoga, let them just start a Facebook group and just or a WhatsApp group. Just start to teach 5, 10, 15, 20 people and start to build community around that.

27So that is the starting point. Everything else will fall into place once, you know, once the momentum picks up in community building. Sid, you've proven yourself to be a good teacher, a good coach, a good mentor. What are the qualities that make up these things? A teacher is, like I mentioned earlier on, is not somebody who's just giving information. I was able to list down 10 qualities of good teachers and teachers that I've been impacted by. number one is great teachers simplify concepts they don't complicate things they like to break it down into smaller elements great teachers walk the talk they don't just speak something that they're not implementing themselves great teachers are a master of their subject and the master of their craft so even if they say something very small or something which is just a one-liner it has an impact on the student because they have mastered that craft number four is great teachers have a bigger mission beyond just giving information they're able to see where is this going to lead to and where the where this information and what kind of an impact this information is going to have on their students and in society great teachers are amazing at creating engagement between their students great teachers are tactically skilled okay so when i say tactically it's not just about theoretical stuff but also hands-on in whatever they are teaching.

54Great teachers demonstrate tough love when they have to. It's not just about being happy and always, you know, trying to be the people pleaser, you know, pleasing the students. You got to demonstrate tough love to bring out the best out of the students and sometimes push them and make them go to the pressure. Great teachers have the ability to use the right media at the right time. You know, there are so many different media that can be used for teaching. Number nine is great teachers, they don't just give information, they actually provide a journey or a path for the students to walk. Okay, it's not just about giving all the, you know, just jamming the students head with information.

37It's about showing them what is going to be this journey of transformation and helping them move through that journey. In fact, more than the word a journey, I want to use the word adventure, because an adventure has an element of risk. And a great teacher is able to get more and more people onto this adventure of learning and let the students discover, you know, newer things on that path. And finally, you know, great teachers deliver results for their students. I mean, that's like the ultimate,

11indicator of success for a teacher if they're able to create a transformation result in the students. So those are the 10 qualities, John. I want to take this home, Sid, because Fire Nation is on a journey. They're on a journey to become an entrepreneur, a small business owner, and they know that they're the average of the five people they spend the most time with. They know they need a mentor. They know they need guidance. What is the next ever people listening that want to keep going on your journey? I think the first step of the journey is to really understand what problem do you want to solve in this world and who do you want to serve?

48Yeah. So once you get these two in place is, uh, then things will start to open up and you convert that into a mission. So if you know, okay, for me, it's like, I want to solve this education problem thing. And that's why that was the first title that came to my mind when I sent you that email journal like how can i fix the education system and who do i want to serve i want to serve people who really are able to resonate with this and who want to become knowledge givers and then once so once you have clarity on what's the problem and who you who do you want to serve the next step from there is to start building you know systems or creating models and creating you know an entire curriculum uh to develop this on a much further you know basis and for that uh Actually, I've launched a book.

31It's called You Can Coach. I actually walked through the entire process. But I've also interviewed more than 22 industry leaders, including Jack Canfield, Dr. D. Martini, Blair Singer, from whom I learned accelerated learning techniques. and I think that that'll be a great step to start with just to understand the different models on how to you know identify what is that high level high level of contribution you want to make to the world and then convert that into a curriculum and even when it comes to curriculum design I have a like a 330 90 formula so anything that you want to teach can be broken down into a into a three-day conceptual course a 30-day challenge for them to actually go and get a small breakthrough and a 90 day for them to achieve a milestone.

14Any topic, whether you want to teach, you know, help people lose weight or you want to help teach people stock market trading, or you want to teach people how to grow in their business. I mean, everything can be broken into 330, 90. And like this, I have at least 22 different models that I share in that book. And I think that will be a great starting point, John, for your audience. So Fire Nation, I hope that you really are taking in all of the problems with the current system of education, all of the problems with the employment system, also the fixes that you can take.
