Podcast Title

Entrepreneurs on Fire

  • Host: John Lee Dumas (JLD)
  • Description: A podcast dedicated to sharing insights and strategies from successful entrepreneurs.

Episode Overview

  • Title: Launch a 6-7 Figure Course in 30 Days with Anthony Gallo
  • Guest: Anthony Gallo, co-founder of ContentCreator.com, which has educated over 100,000 people in content creation.

Key Takeaways Value Bombs

  1. Hands-On Experience Over Knowledge: While continual learning is important, the majority (about 90%) of education should come from practical experience.
  2. Time as the Primary Investment: Success in launching courses requires a significant investment of time.
  3. Creating Unique Course Offers: Many aspiring course creators struggle with conveying originality in their offerings, oscillating between beliefs of having no unique value and overestimating their ideas' uniqueness.

Anthony Gallo's Journey

  • From a pizza delivery driver to a successful course creator.
  • After shifting from a potential medical career to videography, Gallo leveraged his passion for video into a full-time business.
  • His first course, created with a mentor, generated $35,000 in weekly revenue within 30 days.

Discussion Points Why Courses?

  • Low Financial Risk: Unlike traditional businesses that require significant capital, online courses need minimal financial investment.
  • High Profit Potential: Courses can yield high returns on investment, especially with effective marketing and differentiation.

Audience Building Without a Large Following

  • Starting Small: Gallo emphasizes that individuals can successfully launch a course with a small following by focusing on creating a great offer and effectively marketing it.
  • Value Exchange: By providing valuable content, creators can attract an audience over time.

Course Topic Selection

  • Crystal Clear End Results (QER): Courses should focus on the end result rather than the means of getting there.
  • Superior Outcomes: Strive to deliver better results than competitors.
  • Speed to Result: Teach methods that achieve results efficiently.
  • Cost Savings: Offer significant value at competitive price points.
  • Novelty/Experience Factor: Enhance the learning experience with engaging delivery, which can be achieved through fun, interactive methods.

Marketing Channels for Course Launch

  1. Organic Content Marketing: Utilize platforms like YouTube to create free content that helps others while promoting your course.
  2. Piggyback Audience Strategy: Partner with established creators to access their audiences through joint ventures.
  3. Paid Advertising: Use targeted ads to generate rapid income, although this requires an understanding of advertising strategies and can involve financial risk.

Common Mistakes by Beginners

  • Analysis Paralysis: Focusing excessively on tools and technology at the expense of actual course content and marketing.
  • Neglecting Audience Conversations: Failing to engage with potential students to understand their needs and perspectives.

0:01Light that spark fire nation JLD here and welcome to entrepreneurs on fire brought to you by the HubSpot Podcast Network, the audio destination for business professionals with great shows like Success Story Podcast. Today, we'll be breaking down how to launch a six to seven figure course in 30 days to drop these value bombs I brought to Anthony Gallo and to EO Fire Studios. Anthony is the co-founder of contentcreator.com, an online education platform that has taught 100 ,000 people content creation skills and how to build businesses with those skills. And today, Fire Nation will talk about the perfect revenue stream.

0:37We'll talk about building a successful online course. We'll talk about choosing the right topic, the best marketing channel, and so much more. And a big thank you for sponsoring today's episode goes to Anthony and our sponsors. What is up, Fire Nation? I am super excited to be here. Something I believe that might be a little controversial is that, you know, there's a saying, knowledge is power, and you should always be learning.

2:02And I personally believe that, especially for beginners, knowledge is power, and you should always be learning. But information can kind of be a beginner's worst enemy. It can be debilitating always having that next thing that you discover, and you have to stay in front of the computer learning, which inhibits you from going out and taking action. And so my belief is that you should always be learning, but 90 % of what you should learn should come from taking action. Fire Nation, I hope you recognize one of entrepreneurs on fire's biggest assets is that you're going to have the tools, the tactics, the tips, the strategies to take action.

2:43And now what are we talking about today? Launching a six to seven figure course in just 30 days. And that might sound like it's hard to believe, but Anthony, you went from a pizza delivery kid to a seven-figure course creator. I want to hear that story. Yeah, I love that. I love that little headline. So I guess to make it short, I grew up in a very classic American town, very classic American family. And parents had good jobs, but they went to school for 15 years, worked for 30 years, get the 401k. I respect how hard they worked their whole life. But growing up in the town that I did, there was always this select group of really wealthy families that had time freedom, lifestyle freedom, everything that I wanted.

3:34So I kind of made it a mission of mine to figure out how to get there. And I thought it was real estate, you know, investing in real estate. So I went on to become a doctor. I got a degree in biomedical medical science, but I was always missing this element of passion in my life. And as a hobby, always, you know, throughout my childhood, I shot videos for fun. And so about halfway through college, that little hobby turned into a side hustle, which actually by the time I graduated, ended up being my full-time job. I decided not to go to medical school, anything like that. And started making six figures that first year as a videographer and wanted to push the envelope even more, get into a little bit of an online business.

4:17I didn't feel qualified to teach anything whatsoever, but I was obsessed with the concept of online courses for a lot of reasons that we'll probably touch on today. I met a very early mentor and he's now my best friend. His name is Paul Xavier. And we decided to partner and launch a course that teaches people the very beginning steps of just taking any camera you have and learning how to shoot and edit professional videos with it. And after about 30 days of working on it, we worked very hard. We launched it. And then by the end of the following 30 days, it was actually making$35 ,000 per week, which was more than I would make in a year delivering pizza.

4:58That is quite the story. And I hope it makes it seem a little more attainable, Fire Nation, no matter where you are in your story, in your journey of life right now. And you, Anthony, not surprisingly, think courses are the perfect revenue stream. But I want to know why. Let's dig deep. Why do you love courses to this level? Yeah. Oh, man. I could talk forever about this. But growing up, I mentioned that first kind of vehicle of wealth generation that I got attached to was real estate, along with owning businesses, work for yourself, all that stuff. But what hit me early on is that almost all businesses take three things.

5:39They take time, money, and involve a lot of risk, usually tied to that money. And with courses, what I found was they obviously take time. Anything worthwhile in life is going to take time. But the financial investment, you're not putting a down payment on a house. You're not financing this business acquisition. You are literally hosting some videos online, recording some content, editing it, posting it online, and then getting people to buy it. So very little money is involved. And with that, so is the risk. Very little risk is involved outside of the time, which again, I think it's out of the question that anybody could achieve anything without investing the time.

6:24So you get to have an amazing business that has a high profit ceiling. I mean, it's almost uncapped depending on how you structure it. And you can do it with such a low barrier to entry. I think it's very unique in that sense. Fire Nation, there's a lot of reasons to love courses. We're going to even talk about a couple more as we continue on this chat today. But I want to address the elephant in the room, Anthony, which is not everybody has a large following. Not everybody has a large email list. Can those individuals still build a successful online course? Absolutely. And honestly, I should have touched on it in the previous question as well, because that's another thing that stops people, especially in the online space from starting a business is the belief that they need, you know, tens of thousands of followers, all this authority online.

7:19And the reality is, if you do a couple things well, like come up with a great offer, you know, differentiate yourself, you can stand out and immediately create that audience for yourself and start generating sales. So personally, when I launched my course, I think I had under a thousand people who followed me online. I still joke to this day, one of the only people who who consistently likes my posts is my mom and my grandma. And that was all I needed because there are marketing methods nowadays that you go out and you put your message out there, you exchange the value you create for the eyeballs of the audience and the people who want to actually learn what you have to teach.

8:00And all of a sudden, you're creating sales starting from nothing. And it's like a snowball. The more you go, the more sales you get, the more authority you build. And it's an upward spiral, so to speak, where you don't need much to get started. But once you do get started, it gets pretty crazy. Fire Nation, I hope you do recognize that you have to build everything that you're building brick by brick, step by step, process by process. And if you can create the number one solution to a real problem in this world and offer to deliver that in the form of a course, then you are going to find people that need that.

8:40You are going to make sure that people find you who need that. I love the process and the reality that people will beat a path to the doorstep of the number one solution to their real problem. So create that number one solution, allow the people to find you. And we have a lot to talk about. We're talking the right course, we're talking about the right marketing channels, and so much more when we get back from thanking our sponsors. Can you believe we're already in Q4? This year has flown by, but Q4 is an exciting time and not just because the holidays are right around the corner. Something magical happens when the third quarter ends and the fourth quarter begins, the energy changes.

9:21The fourth quarter is where games are won, where champions are made, and in business, it's where sales teams become legends. That's why HubSpot built Sales Hub. There are several things required to create and run a successful business and one of those is having the right tools. You tune into Entrepreneurs on Fire to learn from other successful entrepreneurs.

11:20This is a great tool to have in your pockets and I've got another show I highly recommend checking out. It's called the Millionaire University Podcast. Hosts Justin and Tara Williams have put in years of hard work to get to where they are now. They started their business from scratch and I've personally seen them grow it into what it is today. Justin has not only been a past guest on EO Fire, he was one of the founding members of my first mastermind group back in 2013. Their podcast covers topics like how to start and grow a digital marketing agency, secrets of productivity, and how to network.

11:51The Millionaire University has lessons to guide you at every step on your journey. So what are you waiting for? This is the easiest way to help your business grow and succeed. Listen to the Millionaire University podcast. Find the Millionaire University on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts. Anthony, we're back. And as I mentioned before the break, choosing the right course topic, it's critical. And we're going to talk about that now. How do we do this? Yeah, that is definitely a hurdle I think people have in their journey. And it's funny because I feel that most people are on one extreme end of this spectrum.

12:32And it's how unique is my offer? A lot of people are on one side where they say, nothing I could ever create is unique. I have no value to bring to the table that hasn't already been created. And then you have the other end of the spectrum, which is, I came up with one idea. I know it's amazing. No one else has done this. I'm not going to question it at all. And I think both of these are kind of fallacies. Everybody is more in the middle where there are very few people I've met in life. There's really nobody I've met who doesn't have something unique to bring to the table. So it is possible. And we've developed basically a framework of after studying thousands and thousands of successful course offers and offers that were launched to maybe not the level of success that the person originally wanted.

13:17And it really comes down to these couple key frameworks. So the first one is having a crystal clear quantifiable end result or a QER. And that is huge because a lot of people want to sell the process. They want to sell the vehicle that gets you from where you are now to where you want to be. And that's kind of the opposite of where we want to start. We want to start at the end island and sell people that end result. It's not, you know, my first course taught people how to learn how to shoot and edit videos. It isn't that they want to really learn the nitty gritty details of a camera. It's that they want to grow their audience with video.

13:57They want to launch a YouTube channel. They want to maybe create their own course or shoot videos for local businesses. And so marketing, creating your course to where it's the end result that you're really selling, that's key number one. Number two is having a significantly better result. So if you can help somebody lose 10 pounds in a month, or you can help somebody lose 15 pounds in a month, naturally, the better the result, the easier your course is going to sell. Up after that, we have speed to that quantifiable end result. So if you have a method of teaching, that's no nonsense, it's proven to work better, faster, more efficiently.

14:36Again, that's going to increase the value and the differentiation of your offer. Then next up, we have cost savings. So again, people have, there's a lot of different, there's financial cost, but there's also emotional cost. There's time costs, which we just talked about. But if you can save people these things, you can remove pain from the equation. You can save them money from not having to go to traditional education systems and you can get them that result without that cost. Obviously very valuable. And I think that's one of the major things with our first course, 14 Day Filmmaker. It really helped because it was$48.

15:13And now we have almost 100 ,000 students in the program, but we brought to the table and only charged$48 for what most other educational places on planet Earth were charging thousands and thousands of dollars for. And then the last one, which is kind of fun, sometimes it's hard to put a pin into it, but it's the novelty or experience factor. And I think the easiest way of putting that into words is taking a cooking class from Gordon Ramsay or a public speaking class from Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey. It's just more fun when you have somebody like that, that really elevates the experience, but it doesn't need to be celebrities.

15:51Another easy way of thinking about it is a piano course that has really fun, engaging step-by-step practice exercises at the end of the day. It doesn't just yell theory at your face. It's, hey, come do this with me. Practice what you've learned. Checklists, things that, you know, going back to the beginning of our conversation, inspiring learning through action, not just through listening and watching, that's going to really improve the course experience. So all of those frameworks, you don't need to hit perfectly on all of them. But if you can pull a couple of those levers and just maximize it, your course offer is going to vastly dominate the market compared to most people who just threw an idea together and maybe put it out on the internet.

16:35I love those levers and Fire Nation. I love the fact that you only need to pull a couple of those to really differentiate yourself in this marketing space, in this core space. And I did just say the word marketing because that's what I want to talk about next, because there are so many marketing channels out there, Anthony. It can really confuse, overwhelm, stress people out. So let's talk about the best marketing channel to launch an online course with. Absolutely. And yeah, you hit the nail on the head. There's a lot, which I think is a blessing because everybody has different strengths, right?

17:10Some people are great on camera. Others are great speaking into a microphone. Some people can write emails and blogs and it's just they can do it all day long. So there's a lot out there and I would highly advise anybody out there identify what your strengths are and find a channel that supports the strength. But generally speaking, I like to tell people first off ask yourself where is your audience hanging out do you know they are on a specific platform a channel is there an easy way to find them uh and you know generally speaking everyone's on Facebook YouTube and Google so again if I'm just telling anybody where to start that's where we're going to look at and the easiest one that's probably the least stressful primarily because it takes you know again almost no money to start is marketing organically through creating content.

18:03And my favorite place to do that is on YouTube, primarily because it's a platform where people are already coming to learn things. If you're listening to this podcast and you are a professional downhill skier or you've scaled, you know, a series of car washes, you could create valuable content to post on YouTube that would help people starting that journey. And then at the end of each video, you let people know, hey, if you want to go even deeper in this process, I do have a full course. You can get a free preview by clicking the link below and submitting your email. Naturally going to generate tons and tons of leads.

18:36And all you have to do is create content. After that, my second favorite one is what I call the piggyback audience strategy. It's also just a basic joint venture. You could be somebody with no audience, no desire to scale a YouTube channel, but you have an amazing piece of value to bring to the world. All you need to do is go out and find somebody who's already curated an audience that has the desire to learn something you may have to bring to the table. And you develop a very good win-win offer with this person where you say, look, you already have an audience that wants to learn this. Go through my course, get an idea of what it is that I want to teach.

19:16If you can put your stamp of approval on it, and it's something that you wish you had when you got started, let's do a joint launch where we sell this to your audience. and I give you 50 % of the sales. YouTubers out there, content creators, people who have the audiences that you want, they're working hard to build those audiences and they might not have the time to create a course and really monetize it. So if you come in and offer them this amazing opportunity to help them monetize their audience and potentially partner with them long-term, we see that happen all the time. Even if you get a fraction of 1 % of a person's audience who has 150 subscribers on YouTube or 500 ,000 followers on Instagram, even 10 ,000 followers, it's all possible.

20:01That's a lot of money and a lot of impact you can make with your course. Fire Nation, that's actually been a big strategy of ours over the years and it's worked really, really well. You can just sit down and kind of create your dream five, your dream 10, your dream 20 creators and just approach them on a one-on-one personal basis. You might be surprised what offer will appeal to them for what reason. So it's worth trying. So Anthony, I know you got one more. Keep going, brother. Just to build off that as well, I know you guys have crushed it with this approach. If you're just starting to and you're like, wow, how do I go, you know, and land somebody like JLD, you know, you don't do that right when you start, but you just springboard at one after another after another.

20:41And even if you go to your first person and they have 500 followers and you get four sales and then that person, you guys split a couple thousand dollars. That's now social proof. credibility that you can bring to the next potential joint venture who has an even bigger audience. So you can just keep stacking this nonstop. And it really is an exciting strategy. But last and last and certainly not least, this is actually the strategy, ironically, that my partner and I, Paul, started with. It's paid ads, Facebook ads and YouTube ads. It's a very established strategy. And it's amazing because, you know, you can just get overnight success sometimes.

21:20It's very rare in life that you can launch something and just have it click. And that's what you can do with ads. You can spend$50 on ads in your first day. And if you have a good offer and you have a good message and it really hits the nail on the head with the audience, you spend 50, you can make 150. And then you spend 300 and you can make 500. You can keep scaling it to the point where it's a very, very serious generator of revenue for your course business. The only reason I say this one last is because I do think it comes with the most stress because it does involve an investment of cash, which not everybody has when they're first starting their course business.

22:01And it's a skill to learn similar to working a camera, running a podcast business. There are ins and outs of running ads. And sometimes it's scary to spend your money while you're learning. But nonetheless, it's an amazing strategy that I do recommend heavily to course creators out there. And at the end of the day, once you're up and running as a course creator, you're doing all of these without a doubt. We're doing these week in and week out in our business along with some other strategies. But those are the three that I think all course creators should focus on. AG, I personally love learning from other people's mistakes so that we can avoid them and emulate successes as well.

22:43That being said, what are the biggest mistakes that you are seeing beginner course creators making over and over again? It is, without a doubt, analysis paralysis when it comes to the tools surrounding creating a course. So, you know, where do I host my course? What software do I use to build my website? Should I film my course content on my phone or buy a professional camera? people will focus on the you know technicalities to the point where like we talked about earlier they don't talk about their offer they are not you know really focusing on their marketing message and you know three months go by and they're still trying to figure out what technology to use and then the next one is very simple but I see very few people do it it's just going out and having conversations with people who want to learn what you potentially have to teach.

23:42And the analogy I use to describe this point is as the course creator, as the person teaching, you are at the top of the mountain, you've hiked the path and you are up there looking down and you have a certain perspective on the path that you've taken. You see the roots that you tripped on, the rocks along the way, everything. But somebody who's starting their journey, trying to get to where you are at the top of the mountain, they're looking at the trail from the opposite perspective. They're down looking up and what they see could be extremely different than what you're seeing. And so as a course creator, we need to make sure that the language we speak is finely tailored to the perspective of the person at the bottom of the mountain.

24:21We need to know what they think matters, what their problems are and what their true motivation behind their desires are. And as simple as that sounds, a lot of course creators will just speak exactly what they know matters, but the person at the bottom of the mountain isn't far enough to even know that that's important. And it's a complex topic, but the easiest way to solve it, go ask your prospects, what do you really want? Why do you want it? And what's stopping you from getting there faster? The three answers to those questions is literally all you need to develop the core marketing message of your first launch, the second launch, literally everything, all the marketing can come from those three questions.

25:03Fire Nation, there's been so many value bombs dropped about launching a six to seven figure course in just 30 days by AG, Mr. Anthony Gallo himself. Top 3 Value Bombs

1. Consistent learning is essential, but most education should happen through hands-on experience, amounting to about 90%.

2. The primary investment is your time, which is essential for any achievement.

3. Creating a unique course offer can be challenging, as people often fall into two extremes. On one side, some believe they have no original value to offer, while on the other, there is the need for clarification that their idea is unique.
