02Hi, and welcome to this week's episode of the Epic Entrepreneurs podcast where we are all about helping business owners just like you achieve success. So we don't do fancy smancy. We don't do flashing lights. We don't do a lot of things that a lot of podcasts will do. These are just real stories about real people and their entrepreneurial and business experiences. We go into their wins, their challenges, and their learnings. So we hope you enjoy it.

37Welcome to this week's episode of Epic Entrepreneurs powered by Action Coach Growth Partners. You likely went into business to have more freedom and flexibility so that you could spend more time with your family, do more things or travel or enjoy your hobbies or whatever it is that you like to do in your spare time. We're here to help you find better ways to make more money, build better teams and get that time back so that you can have that freedom and flexibility. We'll help you simplify things and make sense of business, investing, and wealth building so that you can be Epic and achieve all your dreams and goals.

10And now, enjoy the show. Hey there, welcome to this week's episode of Epic Entrepreneurs, and we're on part two of 25 questions. We're answering 25 questions that we get all the time about coaching, about business building, about the process about how it all works so hopefully this will give you some clarification about what a great coach could do for you and help you make a great decision on hiring a coach for you your business or your team so we got through a bunch of questions last week so let's jive right in this week so what is the process is another question we get like how does it really work how does business coaching work well from a 30 000 foot view we use a program called dreams times goals times learnings times plans times actions so we start with the dreams so business coaching starts with personal goals It just does.

30Business should give you more life, not suck the life out of you. So we start with personal. What is it that you'd like for the business to give you personally? What is it that you would like for your job to give you personally? What is it that the business should give to your family? So we want to start with the personal goals. We want to start with the big dreams. like what are the dreams that you have okay and we have a process to take you through that we use a document called the dream builder and but but coaching in general is going to start with what are the dreams now from the dreams we're going to go to what are your goals so what the goals i use a process called five three one ninety there there is a whole nother podcast on that you can look it up but generally it's five years goals three-year milestones one year goals and 90 day goals so what are the what are the five year three year one year and 90 day goals that we're going to put in your business or into your life and then from there if it's a goal you don't know how to do it.

46If you do know how to do it, it's a to-do list. If you don't know how to do it, it's a goal. So a goal, in order to achieve the dreams and goals, guess what? We're going to have to learn something. So the L is learning plan. What is your learning plan? And then we're going to go to the next level, which is we're going to actually build a plan out. Now, depending on your situation, it might just be a 90-day plan. For some of you, it'll be a comprehensive five-year business plan but we're going to have a plan and then the last one is a which stands for action and we're going to have an action plan create some accountability have regular coaching that's going to take you through the process so getting into the nuts and bolts of it the first four which is basically your dreams your goals your learning plan and your plan plan those are going to be part of what we call the alignment process and this is we're going to take about four hours we're going to ask you a whole bunch of questions and we're going to get clear on where it is you want to go personally and in your business and we're going to set it up so that so that we can come alongside you in your business to help you get from wherever you are to wherever you want to get to so it what i say is we're climbing the same wall our ladders are against the same wall i'm not on the same ladder as you but i'm helping you i'm beside there encouraging you and sometimes giving you a hand up that ladder or giving you a push up the ladder so that is uh and then so the alignment takes care of the first four and then from then on we have uh we have weekly well usually every other week coaching sessions that are generally about 45 minutes to an hour.

40This is one-to-one coaching. There's also one-to-many coaching and some training programs. They'll be different, but one-to-one coaching, we'd meet a couple times a month, and we've got a monthly meeting in person where we get all our clients together. We do education, and then every quarter, we do a planning session so that we update our quarterly goals and get a plan together on how we're going to achieve it and so by having this following this rhythm in this routine we end up with a great uh great results and continuing to keep people on the path of becoming better and improving and building business getting results they want out of their business how are you different than other coaches was another question we get you know i think that from coach to coach that's different i mean part of it is style part of his personality part is what they're an expert on part of it is what they coach on you know what you know in our business every single person who works here is owned the business every single person understands the trials and tribulations that a business owner or an executive or ceo goes through we've been there we've done it we've also seen it all i've been coaching jason's been coaching for five years i've been coaching for 17 years we've just seen a lot of businesses and a lot of people and how how it operates so from our standpoint of view our personal uniqueness is we've been there and done it and we're going to get you the results you need to have we we believe we understand this a system a better way to get you there we're also part of the number one business coaching company in the world.

25So we've got the resources of 1 ,100 offices around the world, plus all the data and all the content that's been built up over 30 years of business coaching. So, but I think, you know, if when you're looking for a coach, you want to find that fit. You want to find the person who's got what it is you're looking for. Hopefully that's us at Action Coach growth partners sometimes it's maybe it may be someone else but we wish you well than finding your coach another thing we often hear is hey i had somebody or a coach or consultant or whatever and it didn't work you know what makes you think it's going to work for me well i tell you the truth i'm going to ask a whole bunch of questions about you i want to know what you're doing what your um you know what what you did what why it didn't work i want to know i know our system works because i've it's worked with hundreds and thousands of businesses around the world over and over and over again so i know our i know the things i do work because i've got the testimonials and the businesses that i think that i've coached for 10 and 12 years but you know i'm gonna i'm going to want to know what it what piece of it you played in there what was your situation so um it's the two coaching is a two-way street i don't know why it didn't work before maybe it was you know i i doubt it was it was probably a bad fit but rather than a bad coach um here's what i heard the other day my team is no good what can i do about that well you're probably not going to like the answer that I'm going to give you on this one, which is look in the mirror.

17But a lot of people, that's not likely the answer you want to hear. But the first thing you got to do is look in your mirror. What's going on? Why don't you have the team you should have? Why don't you have the team that you want to, you know, Brad, when he was coaching, said, I just can't seem to find good help one day to his dad. And his dad said, well, Brad, you get the people you deserve. holy cow that's motivating right um but it's true you get the team you deserve what i would say is we can help you get the right people on the bus get the right people the wrong people off the bus we can we have hiring systems we have years and years of experience of building teams training team training getting everybody on the same page all of that is going to play a part in in fixing your team problems.

10So yes, we can work with the team. Yes, we can make them good. And yes, we're going to make you look in the mirror. Here's one that doesn't often get asked, but every once in a while gets asked, hey, is this, I was sitting in a, with a group of guys that owned the business and brothers and it was a cabinet business and I was with a former business partner of mine who since, I'm sad to say died, but but um we were sitting there and we had gone through our our strategy session and explained to him the options that they have and gave them the solutions and his name's stan he's a great guy and stan just looked at me and he said bill is this going to work and my answer was yes this is going to work for you because they had the right business they had the right attitude they had the right work ethic and lo and behold my business partner did coach them to massive success they grew the business five times bigger than it was they're doing fine they moved they got a building of their own a lot of good things happened but the point is will this work it will work if you will work it will work if you will focus it will work if you will invest some time making and working on yourself and your business so yes it will work with a little bit of an asterisk you have to do the work will you work with me on blank so will you work with me on your finances yes of course will we work with me on my marketing yes of course will we work with you on your sales yes of course will we work with you on your blank fill it in and the answer is of course which is a great thing to say by the way of course we're gonna work with you holistically on all parts of your business you say well what if you're out of your depth well that's easy we're gonna bring in an expert when we need to that's that's an easy question yeah I need to we need an attorney great I'm bringing an attorney we need a financial planner great I'll bring in a financial planner you know we need a business intermediary I'm gonna bring in a business intermediary mergers and acquisitions guy be happy to do it here's another question who is coaching for great question i think everybody needs coaching on some level i mean can we agree on that whether they may need it they may be able to afford or need a book they may need some accountability they may need skills training they need but they're going to need coaching on some level so coaching is for everybody what they're really asking is is coaching or business coaching for me.

52We've already asked that one. And it is. If somebody asks me, who's your target market? Well, I can give you the numbers. We like to work with business owners that are doing a million plus in sales, have eight to 10 employees and up. But it's really not about that. it's really about their attitude it's really about do they have a are they wanting to grow are they wanting to grow themselves and are they wanting to to build their businesses and if they have an attitude and they're willing to do the things that it takes to because in business you have to you you know entrepreneurs part of it is we're going to work harder and smarter okay not just harder if you're just working harder there's only so much you can do you have to become someone different so i would say that coaching is for everyone who has the right idea and is open to coaching we see it all the time you you probably see it you probably say well holy cow this business needs some coaching just because they need it doesn't mean that they're open to it that they want it so business coaching is for anyone who is open to the idea of getting more coaching will there be a clear course of action yeah that's what the planning is about that's why we do the dreams the goals the learning and the plan so that there will be a clear course there will be a coaching program that there will be there's another question that I get often how do we start how do you even start coaching well we've covered that a little bit we do what's called an alignment so we have an initial meeting you could some people call it an intake or in certain industries but the bottom line is we got to get on the same page we got to know where you're going where you are now and we have to have a plan to get you in between and there's another podcast on that it's like a business you know why plan it's about it's about creating the GPS for your business so the the the the simple answer is we do the paperwork and we get started here's what I haven't had lately but Jason got it the other day is have you ever had a client who didn't achieve their goals the answer is yes we have had clients who didn't achieve their goals and it's because they wouldn't do the work on themselves and on their business to achieve the goal it had nothing to do with whether the goals were achievable the goals were achieved.

38They just made the decision that they'd rather get caught up in the day-to-day stuff rather than investing some of their time in making themselves better, becoming something different so that they could achieve those goals. Here's one we get sometimes. How do I pick a coach?

00Number one, I would get clear on what it is you want to achieve. what is what is the what is what is the what are the goals for not up for what are your personal goals what are your business goals what do you hope to achieve out of coaching most a lot of people come to us and they're in some sort of you know i've reached a plateau i don't exactly know what i'm doing anymore i'm out of my depth i need to cut well it's great that's a perfect time for us so but understanding what your personal goals are your business goals are what your purpose is, what you hope to achieve out of the coaching, is going to go a long way to figuring out if there's a fit.

41Every coach should have a fit, a way to check fit. Ours is the strategy session. We sit down, we have a longer process that leads up to the strategy session, so you know if it's a fit, but it's a fit. so um you know the clearer you can be about what it is you want to get the more you're going to get out of coaching it's it's just like you know hiring a personal trainer let's just say that you're a pound or two overweight i know none of y 'all are but if you are a pound or two overweight okay then

24you're going to have a goal right i want to lose five pounds i want to lose 10 pounds whatever it is you want to lose or i want to look better i want to whatever that goal is you have to get clear on that before you could hire a personal trainer like before i heard my personal trainer i wanted i i knew for example enough i knew that there's two elements to fitness there is edgy there well there is the the sort of athletic training the you know building muscles that sort of thing and then there's the nutrition so if you want to get in better shape you've got to exercise more eat better or eat less it's not rocket science I knew I needed some accountability around there so one of my questions was to my personal trainer do you need to do the nutrition piece too because it wasn't I didn't want a trainer they couldn't do both I didn't want a trainer that was just going to make me work hard and I was going to end up not getting the results I wanted by eating a bunch of crummy food continuing to eat a bad diet so understand your goals and interview hard on the coaching whether they have the whether they have the right stuff for what you're looking for now I hope this has been useful these have been a lot of questions we get about coaching about action coach about working with action coach growth partners if you have further questions I'd love to hear them and I'll answer them right here in public so that the world can hear them I'm not we're not we're wide open we want we want you to have the best access we're about world abundance through business re-education that means wherever you get your business education we're in favor of it we'd like for it to be action coach we'd like for you to be action coach growth partners.
