02Hi, and welcome to this week's episode of the Epic Entrepreneurs podcast where we are all about helping business owners just like you achieve success. So we don't do fancy smancy. We don't do flashing lights. We don't do a lot of things that a lot of podcasts will do. These are just real stories about real people and their entrepreneurial and business experiences. We go into their wins, their challenges, and their learnings. So we hope you enjoy it.

37Welcome to this week's episode of Epic Entrepreneurs powered by Action Coach Growth Partners. You likely went into business to have more freedom and flexibility so that you could spend more time with your family, do more things or travel or enjoy your hobbies or whatever it is that you like to do in your spare time. We're here to help you find better ways to make more money, build better teams and get that time back so that you can have that freedom and flexibility. We'll help you simplify things and make sense of business, investing, and wealth building so that you can be epic and achieve all your dreams and goals.

10And now, enjoy the show. Good morning, good evening, good afternoon, wherever you are in the world or in the day. I've got a question for you. Have you ever thought about what it would take to add a zero to your income? So if you're making 60 grand a year, 600 ,000. If you're making 100 ,000, making a million. It's an interesting question, right? And I think it's a good exercise. And the interesting thing is, hey, we live in America. It's a great country. Or if you're not in America, I know you still live in a great country. It is possible to do whatever it is you decide to do. You just need to make up your mind.

52So the theme of the show is Epic Entrepreneurs and Epic stands for something. Epic is E, the E in Epic is education. The P is planning, the I is inspiration, and the C is commitment. And those are the four buckets that I have when I wrote the book that I came up and said, hey, these are good buckets for success. If you're good at education, like I don't know anybody who is not a lifelong learner who is who is who's done well success requires learning in other words learning comes before earning i don't know any successful people who aren't good at planning they are they just do it the you know they always find inspiration to keep going through the hard times so you have to dig deep and find inspiration when you're and see they commit they make goals they make dreams they make a commitment to learning so today i want to talk about the education piece and i believe that one of my favorite ways to learn is in person in other words in a in a classroom setting learning live and there's some advantages to learning live and i'll get to those in a minute but i i'm sitting here you can't see it because this is a podcast but I've got a name badge here and I have a hanger on the wall where I've kept all the name badges for years at least 15 years and there is well over a hundred name badges on that thing so my question to you is how many name badges are on your hanger how many workshops have you been to this year how many are you planning to go to how many have you been to in the last year you say well, Bill, that costs money.

44Well, yeah, investments do cost money. It's an investment, not an expense. I believe one of the greatest returns on investment you can get is an investment in yourself. I'm going to share about how much I invest every year in me, but I don't want this to scare you off. I just want you to understand the level of investment it takes if you are going to be successful now you don't need to start with this amount i didn't start with this amount start with wherever you are if you you know if a book is is where you need to start 20 book by the way where you know how many books are in the library well the answer is all of them and how much does it cost to go check a book out of the library or down you know or use it temporarily if it's online these days well it's free there is no money out of your pocket so you can anybody can learn anywhere in the world these days it is one of the great leveling the internet is a great leveler in other words the education the knowledge is available to everyone everywhere as long as you can get to a library or find an internet connection so my investment at this point in my life in coaches and in investing in myself and going to workshops and finding things that i need to get better at in in audio books and books is over fifty thousand dollars a year and like i said i don't say this i just want to impress upon you the idea that investing in yourself is where is what you need to do to get ahead and so here's a question for you how much time are you investing in yourself to make yourself better are you are you taking 30 minutes a day to watch a video 30 minutes now you know in action coach we've got great opportunities we've got 30x which is 30 minutes a day we've got 30x business we've got 30x wealth we've got 30x life so those are simple easy ways to to get it maybe it's better for you like me to go to a live workshop.

02Now, why do I believe live workshops work? Well, it comes back to a simple thing. And the simple thing is, when I come out of a workshop, I have a to-do list. And what I always tell people in my workshops is I want you to find the one thing that you are going to get done that you haven't thought about. So find the one thing. I have a list of 20 or 30 things from this. I just went to something called BizX and I'd recommend it to anybody. it's it's a two-day workshop for business owners small and medium-sized business owners to go and and work on yourself work on your business help you get a plan in place so that you can succeed over the next year and if you'd like more information on bizx just hit me up it's fine i think the next next year it's in it's april it's going to be in las vegas it's it is a lot of fun We take some of our clients out there with us.

59It's just an amazing experience. But why does it work? It's not about the doing. You probably already have a to-do list a mile along. And you're probably saying, well, Bill, how do I decide what to do? Well, you know, if you'd like to have a chat about priorities, hit me up on that. But it's not about the doing. It's about the atmosphere. It's about being something different. The truth is if you want to add a zero to your income, you're going to need to become a different person than you are now because the person you are now earns the amount of money that you earn now. If you're going to add a zero, then you're going to have to be a different person working a different way.

48You can't do your way to a zero, to adding a zero to 10 times what you're making now. you can become something different and and get there now it doesn't mean that you can't that you don't have to do some things i don't want you to think that you can go sit up on a mountain mountain and own your way to a 10x growth in your in your earnings so like i said you don't need to start by investing a ton of money go out and start where you are and add on i didn't start with three coaches and traveling all over the world going to workshops that's not what that's not where I started where I started was with a book with a training with what I could invest in with free things with audio books in fact I would say that I learned more walking than anywhere else that I ever have including sitting in college and high school just by walking and listening to audiobooks every single day for eight ten years that's what I still listen to well I mostly listen to videos these days because most things are in video but listening to videos to sharpen the saw so here's a question for you how much time and how much money are you investing in yourself and in growing your thing and what's your personal improvement plan so if you don't have a personal improvement plan or a PIP as we call it PIP then what should be on it well it's pretty simple what are the classes you want to take this year in other words what do you need to learn if you need to get better at converting sales then what are the classes you need to take on converting sales if you need to get better at management then what are the management classes you're gonna you're going to take.

46So in Action Coach, we have a number of these programs, classes, make sure you check with us, but a lot of things are free out there or very inexpensive. So what is in your, you know, what seminars are you going to attend? What videos do you need to watch? What TED Talks are you going to watch? By the way, TED Talks completely free. Books are you going to read audio books are you going to listen to who are the people that you need to meet there are you know who are your mentors who are people around the world that you know you could buy breakfast for my my guarantee i'll guarantee you i've never called up anybody and said hey you know my name is bill gillilland and i've been following you and i would love to buy you lunch just to learn more about what you do, how you do it.

39You know, when could we do that? And 100 % of the time, they always say yes. So you buy them breakfast, buy them lunch. It's going to cost you 20 or 30 bucks and potentially a plane ticket to understand to improve yourself. Because it's clear, John Maxwell said it best, if you are at a certain level, that is the level at which your business can be. It's called the law of the lid. In order for your business to get better, you must get better. So what's your plan? How much are you going to invest both time and money? And where are you going to be a year or two from now? Is it going to be the same thing over and over again at the same level you've always been with the, you know, the few percentage increase in your salary or are you going to 10x it?

31Is it 10 % or 10 times? So up to you, make a plan. So what's your pip? And until next week, I hope you've enjoyed the learning and all the best.
