Hey there, welcome to this week's episode of Epic Entrepreneurs, brought to you by Action Coach Growth Partners. I'm your host, Bill Gilliland, and in this podcast, you'll find three things.
46You're going to hear real stories from real entrepreneurs that will help you along your entrepreneurial journey. You're also going to get business tips to help you scale up faster, and you're going to get actual coaching to help you get better real world results to be the best entrepreneur you can be. Hey, and if you like the podcast, remember to subscribe. And now, enjoy the show. Hey there, I hope you're having a fantastic idea. I want to explore an idea that I've been working on. And the idea is that you are your equipment. And it came up because Jason and I were talking about frustration with some prospects or some people who were happy to buy a truck, happy to buy a piece of equipment because they could see how they could get an ROI on that investment real quickly.
38But they wouldn't take time to invest in themselves. So they wouldn't get a coach or they wouldn't go to a workshop or they wouldn't read or they wouldn't learn. And so our idea is, and I'm exploring this and I can't wait to hear your input. I want to get your input on this. And this is just the kernel of this idea. It may end up being a whole series or a book or something, but I want your input on it and I appreciate it if you give it to me. So I'm exploring this idea that you are your equipment. And so you need to take care of your equipment. Just like, you know, you need to invest in your equipment.
12You need to take care of your equipment. So principle number one says you need to take care of yourself physically. In other words, you need to invest in yourself physically. And there's a couple areas there. First is nutrition. Obviously, garbage in, garbage out. You put good stuff in your body, good stuff comes out. You've got to take care of yourself from a nutrition standpoint if you have, say, plenty hydrated. And I'm not an expert on this, but I've been around a while. I take care of myself. I want to know these things. Number two, all the studies have shown that some sort of physical exercise is good for you.
46So there's been tons of studies done. One that I know of in particular says that if you exercise vigorously for 30 minutes, three times a week, you're going to live longer. I love that. But we all know that when we get exercise, when we get outside, when we do something physical, then we feel better. It clears our mind up. I love taking walks. I work out, but I love taking walks because walks clear my mind. Number three, sleep. In general, at least in America, I've seen that people don't get enough sleep. I'd love to have your thoughts on this, but all the studies show somewhere around eight hours of sleep.
20It might be seven for you or nine for you, whatever it is. Somewhere around eight hours of sleep is what we all need as humans to function, to recharge, to reset, to be at our best. So if you're going to be at peak, if you're going to take care of yourself and you're going to be the best you can be, then you're going to have to take care of yourself physically. The second thing that came to mind was how to take care of yourself mentally. In other words, you've got to invest in yourself mentally. You've got to grow your mind. You've got to open up to new ideas. You've got to learn. You've got to take a look at both sides of the situation.
56So, you know, I think number one is learning. What is your learning plan? You know, Jim Rohn said, read a book a week. You know, whatever that is for you, a book a week, book a month, book something. And I don't care how you get your learning. You can get it through video. You can get it through audio. You can get it through books. You can get it through interviewing other people. That's why I love podcasts, because when I do my podcasts, I learn from other people. So, you know, but you've always got to be learning. You know, this all goes back to the second law of thermodynamics that says that things are either expanding or contracting.
29Basically, you're either growing or you're dying. So are you growing or dying? You know, so I think a positive intentional path of growth. Where do you want to go? Where do you want to grow to? Who do you want to become? So you've got a plan for that. So you've got to take care of yourself mentally. Now, the third piece of the mental thing is you need to get outside help. I have a saying, you can't do this stuff by yourself. So whether that's counselors, therapists, coaches, whatever it is, you need help. You've got to get outside of yourself to see what's going on. And you've got to rest yourself both mentally and physically.
08So those kind of things, so regular vacations, those kind of things are out there. Remember, I'm just exploring this, so I want your input. If you have input, you have ideas, anything you want to expand on that, please reach out to us. I can't wait to hear and learn and get more of that. Now, principle number three, you've got to take care of yourself spiritually. You've got to invest in yourself spiritually. Now I came up with an acronym. I'm a person of faith, so I came up with this and the acronym is wisdom. and it all started with our minister that I was working with and he came up with an acronym called SWIM but I'm going to give you the wisdom acronym and and you can take it for what it's worth if you don't you know believe what I believe that's okay and you know let's have a talk about I love to understand what you believe but the wisdom it stands for worship so you know you've got to worship you know in my case we go to church we worship we in community you know our God and so So, you know, that's what I believe.
09The I in wisdom stands for inner growth. You got to work on yourself spiritually, physically, and mentally. We talked about, we're already talking about that. The S stands for stewardship. You got to take care of yourself. You got to take care of your resources. You got to reinvest in those things. So stewardship is a big part of it. D, in my mind, that stands for doing. You can't, this is not a passive thing where you sit on a mountain and own your way to some sort of spiritual nirvana. This requires action. Spiritual also requires action. Oh, ownership. You've got to take ownership of your own life.
45And that's something we, of your actions, you've got to take ownership of your spiritual journey. You've got to take, and then M is mission, which means you've got to give back. You've got to take care of others. Now that could be local mission. And I've done a whole bit of research on that, but I would love to hear your thoughts on that so uh so i'm looking at you got to take care of yourself physically you got to take care of yourself mentally you got to take care of yourself spiritually and there's probably some other stuff that i've missed in all of this i can't wait to hear it i want to put it together as an idea but if this helps you maybe gives you a little bit of a checklist just let me know if you'd like some help or you'd like to discuss any of this or anything about taking care of yourself if you're going to build your business you've got to take care of the equipment and the equipment as yourself.
28I hope you have a fantastic week. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one. Hey, and until next week, all the best. Hey, thanks for listening to the Epic Entrepreneurs Podcast. In this podcast, we’re diving into the concept that you are your best equipment and why it’s essential to treat yourself as your most valuable asset. Just as you wouldn’t skip maintenance on crucial tools, your own self-care can’t be overlooked if you want to reach and sustain your goals. We’ll cover three key areas for self-investment: physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Physically, it’s about fueling yourself with good nutrition, staying hydrated, exercising, and getting enough sleep. Your energy levels and productivity directly reflect the effort you put into these basics. Mentally, we'll explore the value of continuous learning, staying open to new ideas, and building habits that support resilience and growth. And on the spiritual side, we’ll discuss ways to find meaning, purpose, and alignment in your life—how practices like gratitude, mindfulness, or connecting with your values can add depth and fulfillment to your journey.
