In short
Gab and Jules recap major football matches, focusing heavily on Liverpool vs Manchester United and debating Liverpool’s defensive collapse and the form/usage of striker Alexander Isak.
Guests
none. The episode is hosted by Gab and Jules (no guest speakers named in the transcript).
Key claims
- Liverpool’s defense is “shockingly bad,” especially in transitions and second-phase set-piece moments. Van Dijk and Konate are singled out for the first goal (Van Dijk “jogging” and Konate’s line leaving Mbomo offside). Slot’s substitutions are criticized for disrupting defensive set-piece organization.
- On attack, Gab argues Liverpool have more options than at the back; Jules says the team is stuck with personnel.
- Isak is criticized for not being involved enough and for missing a key chance; the hosts question why he wasn’t more central against United’s low/medium block.
Notable examples
United’s late win with Harry Maguire; Liverpool hitting the woodwork multiple times; Salah missing chances; Isak’s one-on-one save by Leno; Carragher’s “drop Salah” debate; additional quick-hit results across Europe (Bayern-Dortmund, Man City-Everton, Real Madrid-Getafe, Inter-Roma, Arsenal-Fulham, etc.).

0:17Julien Laurens:Ready? It's Maui time.
0:21I'm gonna eat whatever that is. His name is Heihei. Boat's net. Disney's Moana. In theaters Friday. Rated PG. For rental guidance suggested. Get tickets now.
0:35I'm Gab, he's Jules, blue skies and gorgeous weather outside here in West London. No, actually not at all. That's horrendous. But that's okay because we're here to brighten the air. Yeah, exactly. What a show we have. A lot going on. How about Araujo as the emergency center floor? That's a bit special. Bayern Indoor Classiker, Boned Mood from one of the Bellinghams. Me then, on top of the table. put a son and say, shame on you, Santi Jimenez. I'm going to have a go at you later. But we have to start. Liverpool against the guys who knocked them off their perch and then they regain their perch. They lose at home to Manchester United.
1:13I think it was the worst run of defeats in 11 years. Yeah, 2014, yeah. That's mad. And United win consecutive league games for the first time in... That's right.
1:25Julien Laurens:Since the 2023-24 season. Yeah. A pro to something like that. 24, well done to Robert Amorim. A good plan. That worked. I think a draw, probably, for me, would have been the fair result here. But they found a way with Harry Maguire to win it late. A be like Chelsea won it late against this Liverpool team that is clearly struggling defensively, especially we'll get to that, but also to score their chances because, again, they had a way higher energy than United yesterday. Way more, you know, almost twice more. But then couldn't score that First goal first, and then the second goal, there's a lot of issues in this Liverpool team.
2:03Yeah, there's also a karmic truth to the universe that early in the season, when Liverpool play poorly and win thanks to late goals, this is why we say performances matter. Stuff does catch up with you. I want to go back to Amarim, because we've been really hard on him. We've made so much fun of Manchester United over the years. And yes, I agree with you. I think this game could have really gone... I mean, Liverpool could have scored 4-5. United could have certainly scored more than the ones that they did score. He made some big calls. You bench your big money center forward, Benjamin Sesko. Yeah.
2:38Mason now. You bench Lenny Aro. Before kickoff, it's like, oh, Lenny Aro's pace, blah, blah, blah. No, look, here's Harry Maguire, who is the most mocked Manchester United center back since Phil Jones. And you stick with Diallo away from home, which I thought was a good call. and vindicated because they had a big game. Casemiro, this way he's tired, he's old, blah, blah, blah, played in Korea and Japan. Oh, he put all these things together. And you know what? Obviously, the early Bumov goal helped them. Yeah, yeah. But it's not like his game plan would have been any different if Bumov hadn't scored.
3:13Julien Laurens:No, no, no. And to be fair, it was a perfect game plan. And all the players you mentioned were there because of the game plan, because of the tactics that he wanted to go at Kerkers. We saw Kukurea and Chelsea going on the other side before the international break because Salah doesn't defend. And maybe we were wondering, will United do the same? And this is the template to have a go at Liverpool. And instead, they went on the other side and isolated Kerkers against Ahmad all the time. And Bomo getting Van Dijk busy. So it could be just really Ahmad for Kerkers. And Kerkers is, I mean, I feel a little bit for him, but he's nowhere near his best level.
3:46Julien Laurens:And he's really struggling. So that was clearly the key. And in the first half, especially United went on that right-hand side the whole time. They basically played longer on the left and then moved the ball to the right. and that worked great for them. So it was good. I think he loves Mount because if you have Cesco and Bruno and Mbomo and Cunha, there's too many people who want to take shots. There's not a facilitator. Facilitator. Facilitator, that's it. In this kind of like front four, if you want. But when Mount is there, not only he helps defending and comes into midfield a lot, which he did yesterday, which was perfect, but also he's the most unselfish of that front four anyway.
4:25Julien Laurens:And that, I think, in a game like this, this is perfect. Cunha was great and Bomo. We can talk about the first goal and if the referee should have stopped the game or not for the head injury of McAllister. I think this is a fair point. Usually, you do stop for head injury, but I think things went so quickly that he could not really stop the game and maybe he doesn't even actually see it properly. But it was perfect. Really, the game plan for Marmory was great. Cody Garkbo hit the woodwork three times, misses a sitter, Mohamed Salah misses a sitter. But I think despite all this, and especially like, look, I'll come, we said it, higher XG, whatever.
4:58All right. Do Liverpool have more, does Ski has more to fix in attack or in defense?
5:04Julien Laurens:That's a great question. It's a philosophical question. Yeah. Can we say as much for each, really? Because defensively, it's shockingly bad. And maybe the difference between attack and defense. And then this is something that we can get real granular on on the Gabby Jules podcast. Tell me if you agree with this. You have more options to fix things in attack. There's more pieces that you can move around. At the back, you're stuck. You're stuck with Van Dijk. You're stuck with Konate. For better and for worse. Yeah, yeah, yeah. These are bad players. Absolutely. But other than Robbo back and Frimpong on the right, there's only so much fiddling you can really start doing back there.
5:41So let's wrestle with the philosophical question because, all right, defensively, very clear. Yeah. And it's not just the two goals. There were other times when they got done in transition ways you don't expect. Yeah. we have rightfully praised Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah there's an obvious parallel there because both of them older players both of them phenomenal seasons last year both of them free agents both of them rewarded with very big deals now the bean counters will come out and say not as big as people as the pay him what he wants brigade would have wanted and we have to praise him for that yeah yeah
6:15Julien Laurens:these are still the two highest paid players two highest paid players on the team right yeah van Dijk has had a bumpy start to the season. Are we blaming him for the first goal? Alone? No, no, no. Because Konate covers. If Konate plays on the same line as Van Dijk and Bomo is offside so there's no Konate covers. So we blame both of them? Because Van Dijk also has the recovery time of like... Yeah, I mean Van Dijk is jogging. It's really unacceptable. Like a defender of his level to be jogging like this after two minutes in a game. Must be an experience. Clearly not seeing the danger though to be fair, not being aware.
6:52Julien Laurens:And really, if there's a centre-back who is very good at reading runs into the half spaces on his side, which is his side, it's him. He's always been so good. There's many games against City, especially when the City midfielders were making those runs, where he was there blocking it, reading it so well. And this time he just switches off. Or maybe he expects Connati to be on the same line, so Mbomo is offside. I don't know what happened really in his mind, but yeah, it's for him and Konate. I don't think Mamanaj really can really do. I know he gets a touch on the ball. There's not much he can do really.
7:31The other issue on the second goal, that is a defensive set-piece. Slott said afterwards, well, we had made so many attacking substitutions and stuff that our whole defensive set-piece organization wasn't working a bit. Which is true. Right. bro when Maguire hits the ball there are two Manchester United players behind him yeah no sorry and Maguire and De Ligt you would think are the two biggest threats on set pieces along with Sesco who was 8 feet tall but he's but whatever your defensive organization is you have defensive leaders who are paying a lot of money just because you've made changes and there's different players on the pitch and you say oh look here's Federico Chiesa presumably Federico Chiesa does these drills as well and I'm not blaming him I don't know if it was him I'd have been mentioning him Frimpong these guys were on the pitch right at that stage that cannot be an excuse because you work on these things in training and you cannot have three players no no no you shouldn't
8:32Julien Laurens:you shouldn't it's like it's the second phase of a third piece to start with which is much more difficult to defend than the first phase where everybody well you know because you're starting yeah no but so this is different remember the Crystal Palace and Ketia goal where he blamed Frimpong on that long throw for trying to go on the counter attack thinking that the ball had been cleared and gone early and publicly naming him and saying like he should have stayed basically and not trying to go. They clearly struggled on those second phases. I mean, I think they struggled yesterday on a lot of second balls in general anyway, which is very strange, especially at home.
9:10Julien Laurens:But on this one, I don't know if they try, not that it's a great clearance by the way, the first time around. But maybe they tried to push. I don't know exactly what happened, but it's a big mistake at that level. You're right. Whoever is on the pitch, it's a bad mistake. But I kind of agree a little bit with him too. So we're at a stage now where defensively, it's going to be these two guys who have to basically carry the can for Liverpool between now and January, at least at the earliest, right? They didn't get Marquet over the line. I slammed them for it. I'm not going to go back. Actually, I will, because, yeah, this is the thing, right?
9:48God forbid one of these two guys gets injured, and then we have Joe Gomez until he gets injured, and then after that it's Endo, right? So not good. We can talk about getting help from the fullbacks. The easy explanation is, oh, the Trent is gone, Frimpong is too attacking, Kerkes is too attacking, and so on. It's a bit simplistic, but there's obviously a lot of truth to it. When Kirkus plays, you have to make adjustments. But they were making adjustments last year for Trent as well, except on the other side of the pitch, right?
10:23Julien Laurens:Yeah, but Robertson and Trent work well together. And also, in your build-up phase, it's very different to what you're doing now. Kirkus can't really build anything to be there, not even his house. So it is difficult. I was very surprised that Kirkus started that game yesterday. there. And again, maybe Slot thought I'll put Bradley on the right because they will attack on the right because Salah doesn't defend, i.e. what happened at Chelsea, for example. Bekeke is so out of form. And I know... Maybe Robertson's not fit? No, he played with Scotland in the international break and he made a mistake.
11:00Julien Laurens:He's tired because he's old? I don't know. He probably doesn't trust him anymore or we saw what happened against Chelsea, but that was a bad mistake obviously for the for the Estevão winning goal. So maybe he's paid for that. He made a mistake with Scotland against Belarus too. So maybe he's paying for that a little bit. You're right, maybe he's not fully, I don't know. But to see Kerkers in a game like this, considering his form lately, was hard to understand. We're going to get to the attack and bypass the midfield. I want to say this, Ryan Gravenberg's monster year last year. I think foolhardy to think he's going to instantly have the same season at the same level again this year when he's never played as much as he did last season or as well.
11:43I don't think he's the problem, but I think he's suffering, and I think he suffered in this game because of the pieces around him. McAllister might have scored two goals against Puerto Rico when he got a knock, but he's not the real McAllister. Yeah, definitely. And that's the problem. We disagree a little bit. He opted for Sabaslai, and this is the transition to the attack, right? So we're talking 4-2-3-1. And, you know, maybe we've made this bet that Virts, if he plays regularly, won't be paying a number 10 for this team. So I was like, I thought did okay, but in the tight spaces, you were saying before off air, well, that's what Virts is there.
12:21He's there for the low block. Didn't really impact the way he wanted to when he did play.
12:28Julien Laurens:No, no, but you don't start. The irony I find is that you don't start him in a game like this when you know United are going to play long and have a low block, which is exactly what they did, you decided, Slot had been very clear that after the 2-2 draw last season, at the start of the year, that's when he realised that they had to bring someone in, like Wierd, to be able to play against those low blocks and break those low blocks, basically. And yet, in this game, where clearly we all know exactly what's going to happen, and it happens, you leave him on the bench. And suppose he's a really good midfielder.
13:02Julien Laurens:But one, they wanted to trade on him. He's not a great cases guy, yeah. And two, they wanted a number 10 like Wirtz, and that's why Wirtz is going to play number 10, because they need him in that position. Not Soboslai. Soboslai is a very good player, can play many different positions, has great skill set, very different to Wirtz. But I was very surprised that Wirtz didn't start a game like this, really. All right. We don't need to re-assure views on this, but the option of playing Soboslai in like a Firmino, sorry, a Vert in a Firmino role with wide players coming in. That's kind of gone out the window because they went and they spunk a ton of money on Eketike and Isak.
13:43Isak, I thought, missed a good chance. At what point do we say, oh, but he missed preseason, oh, but this and that. At what point do we say, no, no, Isak, you got to play like Isak?
13:53Julien Laurens:Are we there yet? Yeah, no, I don't think so. I mean, it just needs a bit of time. You know, we go back to this eternal debate. He took Thierry Henry eight games to score his first goal for Arsenal, blah, blah, blah, all of that. I know he also took Nicolas Sanelka, okay, maybe, but he also... Thierry Henry was a winger when he arrived. Yeah, yeah, but what I meant by that, there's also other number nines like Erling Haaland, who needs no time to adapt to anything, really. So, Thierry really buys... I don't even start adapting to a new league. Yeah, yeah, I don't really buy... I don't buy that.
14:22Julien Laurens:It's been disappointing. The one chance that Isak has, the one time that United didn't play with the low block and had a medium block, great ball from Konate in behind he has to score I don't care it's a good save by Lamens and he's looking good Lamens good for him good for United but Isak has to score that like Salah has to score the kind of little volley he has in that second half but more than that I think more than that chance for me Isak it's just they can't find him he's just not involved at all where he's just so good on the ball that I can't believe that the ball doesn't go through him and even when Vietz is not there because if Vietz is there we've said from the beginning he's the 10 the ball is going to go through him rightly so he's an amazing player you almost build your team around him and then he just feeds everybody and everything okay great but then Vietz is not there why is the ball not going into Isak?
15:16Julien Laurens:what are you doing just keeping it wide to Gabko? you want Isak to come short? I want Isak to be involved not stay I was watching him in the first half he was literally staying between he decided to go obviously on Liverpool's right-hand side, so between Maguire and Shaw, instead of going on the other side, okay, fine. Just standing there. There was just nothing from him. Those were instructions because it was so noticeable, especially, I think, in the first half hour of the game. I think those must have been some sort of tactical instruction. Leave the reference point. Maybe go to that side so that maybe you can play a one-two with Gakpo coming in or whatever.
15:56clear the other way for Sala. I don't know. But it's the only explanation I can think of that they wanted to have that reference point because otherwise it was very, very noticeable. It's either that or he's not fit. But he has to be at least physically fit at this stage. Ekitike is like an agent of chaos in a good way, but he wasn't going to make a difference. So then it comes back down to Gakpo. And do we praise Gakpo for his goal and the work rate and whatever? Or do we have to bury him for the miss, which is really hard to miss.
16:27Julien Laurens:Yeah, yeah, it is hard to miss. It's a bad miss. It's not as bad, maybe, well, it's almost as bad as the Matata one that we'll talk about later. But yeah, I don't know. Sometimes I wonder if it's just for them. It's just too easy. He scored that goal a hundred times in his life, in his career, as a young player, as a professional player. So you almost take it for granted that that header is going to go in and you're not focused enough. I don't know. But he's the most informed he scored against Chelsea before the break he scored with the Dutch during the break he's there's no doubt that without Gakpo I don't know where they would be for sure and the the two posts the first one is beautiful the second one too to be fair the third one the one way crosses the ball that is deflected it's a bit different but without him there was not much there Elephant in the room Jamie Carragher notorious Liverpool hater suggests maybe it's time to to drop Mohamed Salah.
17:25Julien Laurens:Well, that happened against Gattah Sarra and that didn't change anything. Well, that's a way for mom, he's tired, blah, blah, blah, heading into a big break. I don't know that it's a question of dropping him, but clearly the work defensively isn't being done. He's not as sharp. He can turn it on. I'm just wondering, is this a situation where maybe you project forward and you say, all right, there's a World Cup next summer. There's a Cup of Nations coming in January, which could be Salah's last Cup of Nations, could be his last World Cup, should we maybe go and work with him physically? Should we maybe try to find a different solution so that when he comes back from the Cup of Nations, sort of come February, March, business end of the season, we have Salah in absolutely dominating form and then he can ride that through into the World Cup, into the end of the season.
18:17Or is there a risk that if you drop Salah now, you lose him? I don't know. And also, is there an obvious, for all the love for Federico Chiesa, are we back to the same thing with square pegs and round holes?
18:30Julien Laurens:I think Chiesa can play on the right. I think Yacobo can play on the right. I think Sobosla can play on the right. I think you could, if you wanted to move Viet there or Kittike there, yeah, you could. And Salah's XG yesterday, you know what it is? I'm assuming Haim because that was a pretty good chance. Yeah, 0.41. but the XG on target is 0.62. So, and the pass for Gakpo on the first time, the first time he hit the push is a great pass. So in a way, I guess, I'm just trying to defend him because he's such a legend and it's maybe not all bad, is it? But the fact that he's dead and there's no end product to his game.
19:13It feels like he's playing himself into shape, which is fine, but you need an alternative to get the results to turn things around. He will be critical to Liverpool this season. But I think Carragher is right in terms of you have to have a conversation about what makes sense for the club and for Mohamed Salah because the stakes are higher later on than they are right now. We do need to get points in right now. I'm just not sure that you drop him and you replace him.
19:42Julien Laurens:I'm not sure the team plays better. I don't think the problem is that... If Virch is going to be on the bench, I'd rather have Virch on the right than even though that's... It would be my least favorite of the Virts positions between false nine left and right. But Virts on the right, at least will give you something different if Salah's not working, right? Yeah, but I'm not sure the team would be better for it, really. I think, again, Virts is a 10. He's not a right, left, false nine, whatever. He's a 10 in this team behind Isak, and I think that can work well. On the right, if you don't have Salah, again, I think you could play Kiesa or Gakpo and have them changing sides regularly because, you know, Gakpo would prefer the left or maybe Kezar prefers the left as well.
20:24Julien Laurens:I don't know. Well, I'm just not... You have Sheza, you're starting live. No, not sure. No, but yesterday, you know, Slot took off Salah after 85 minutes. There is nowhere in a million years that Slot would take Salah off in a game like this. You know, 1-1, 1-0 down against United at own fair, really. There's none. And Salah didn't play the second game with Egypt, by the way. So it's not even if we say like he played 90 minutes and 90 minutes again, he was not involved in that second game. Final word on United. Have they turned the corner? Two wins in a row? I know we said two wins in a row, first time ever in the Armourim, great.
21:05Julien Laurens:But we've also seen those good performances in the league in big games. The 2-2 against Liverpool last season, we thought, okay, yeah, that was great. You know, some of those games we've seen under him. and yet there was no consistency in performances after and it would go back to sometimes being average. How many times has Bruno Fernandes said like, why can't we always play like we did today after a big game? So many times he said it. So they have to sort this out but the attitude was great. The mentality was great. The game plan was great even if in the end a draw was maybe a fair result but it was all great.
21:39Julien Laurens:And then you bring Cesc back for example. So now they play. So Liverpool are Frankfurt away in the Champions League by the way. and Brentford away in the league next weekend, which is going to be like a battle. Pitball. Yeah, completely. For United, like I would love to see this team again. I know it won't be against Liverpool next week, obviously next weekend. There's a whole week to prepare because they have no Europe, which is a great luxury to have. I like this team. I like this team a lot. I like when Mason Mount plays in this team. I like the way this team is playing and I'm hoping that he will keep the same 11.

22:14Julien Laurens:okay maybe maybe maybe have Jorre there instead of Maguire let's be honest but certainly for the midfield and the front players I like this and I think there's something in there yeah I the pieces are there but there's still pieces that don't fit Bruno in front of the back four or in front of the defence is stealth yeah but for now there's nothing I know but for now there's nothing better yeah no no but you have to start working your way out of it There's nothing better because what? Because we decided Ugarte is worthless? Because Magno... I mean, obviously he doesn't... No, no, but yeah. He doesn't trust Ugarte or Magno.
22:52Yeah. But they can't get into this idea that if they string some results together, they have to go knocking at Mr. Wilcox's door and say, we still need help in midfield. This does not change that.
23:06Julien Laurens:But you think it would be addressed in January. It's a difficult time to do something because they need a big player. Let's be honest. There's no point going to sign you or me to play in that midfield. To be honest, this is where I disagree. And this is a United thing. An average player won't be better than Bruno in that position. This is what happened. I'm asking you not to... Paul Kazamiri. This was the... When Ralf Rangnick was there, I think we both know the story, he wanted to take players on loan. And they're like, yeah, we're United. We don't take guys on loan. We don't have a budget, but we don't...
23:35You have to forget. You have to be a little more humble about this. You have to understand that if you can't get the player you want, if you have to take somebody, a mid-career, a veteran guy on loan to do what Casemiro does or Casemiro does to play every game. I'm just saying this exactly. You go and you do that and then you make your long-term. They have to get rid of the stupid idea that big clubs don't do that. Bro, you don't qualify for the Champions League again. You are what you are.
24:03Julien Laurens:You're a club that finished. I hear you. I don't know. They are home to Brighton on the weekend. I don't know if it's Saturday or Sunday, which suddenly becomes huge because you could also see Ursula going there and Brighton play them out of the park because United will have to play differently than they did at Anfield. And then we go back to square one again. And I just think it's going to be fascinating. I don't think Baléba needs another edition, does he?

A bandwagon fan. The biggest insult in sports. But this summer, during the FIFA World Cup, it's an invitation, America.
26:00Never watched soccer before? Perfect. Think a corner kick is a karate move? Sure, why not? Prefer sports where players can use their hands? Me too. Just here for the snacks? Now we're talking. So grab a bag of Leys and jump on the bandwagon. We're undefeated. Leys, the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Right and off Liverpool. How about some quick hits instead? Good job. Bayern win der Klassiker, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1. You do 11 wins in 11 games. Yeah. Competitions. Harry Kane is unplayable. and yet and yet without that boneheaded clearance from Joe Bellingham this game finishes the draw Nah maybe because Brian's goal came late what do you mean no?
26:45Julien Laurens:Nah Bayern were too good too too good I think for Dortmund apart from the last 10 minutes maybe when it was a little bit tense because of that Brian goal to make it 2-1 but even if they don't score that second one even at 1-0 up I don't think Dortmund come back So sorry so you're saying that like I don't think Dortmund were good enough to get a draw there anyway through the whole game. I think it was pretty obvious. It was 1-0. If Bellingham doesn't make that mistake, then you're saying, then what? Then Brandt doesn't score? Yeah, how do you know that Brandt scores after anyway? He does. He did?
27:16Julien Laurens:So did Olysee. You can't tell me if that doesn't happen, if the Olysee goal doesn't happen, you're sure that Brandt scores after. Well, I'm pretty sure that if he doesn't leave Brandt, this is the other thing, he comes out there. I thought Bayern in the first time, I mean, Dortmund had zero shots on there. It was such a domination. But then in the second half, they started playing. Yeah, but as you know, we've seen this before, right? From Bayern, yeah. This is when they risk beating themselves. That's what I would be... That's what I would worry about. It's deeply that they kind of can't keep it up, or they just take a little bit for granted and just try to control the game instead of keeping attacking and attacking.
27:55It's how you're this, or maybe Dormier are better than they thought we were. I'm just surprised that you only send on Brandt at the very end and he scores straight away. The Bellingham move, by the way, I don't understand. You know you've got your back. Clear it high.
28:11Julien Laurens:Don't clear it low and across your goal. I spoke about it with Nader Manua, who was obviously at the game for ESPN. He said there's nothing else he can do, really. Because I thought, oh, no, I'm sticking it. No, this is stupid. This is a really, really bad mistake. I disagree. And I think this is people sticking up for each other. I disagree. From Kane to Herding Island, he scores two as Manchester City beat Everton 2-0. but Gap, Pep Guardiola says it's time for others to score too, if possible. Well, you've asked about this, and I don't think it's a scoring so much, but Holland, okay, Manchester City players have scored 15 goals this season, right?
28:41There's two on the top of that. Holland has scored 11 of them. In the Champions League, they've scored four. Holland has scored three of them. Guardiola says, look, they're still creating chances and stuff. I'm not sure, though, that they are to that degree. I think they are very Holland-focused. There is an alibi there. Obviously, De Bruyne is gone. Some of the creative players, Ryan Scherke's been injured, came back. Bernardo Silva's kind of been in and out. Foden is still up and down. I think once they master that, then they're going to have more creative patterns of play. And then I think other people will get good shots.
29:18But right now, it's all Haaland. And Haaland scored twice, and he also squandered. He should have scored four. He should have scored four. Easily. I don't know what we're seeing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I agree. A late Kylian Mbappé goal, and then even later, Thibaut Courtois saved and nearly saw him injured, by the way. Yeah. Gave Real Madrid a 1-0 win away to Getafe, who end up with nine men. Dios, they're back on top of the table, but this was rough.
29:40Julien Laurens:Yeah, this was tough. And one, it was not a good watch at all, to be fair to us, watching and trying to analyze it. I'm not sure what Xabi saw, but the question, I mean, the first question after the game in his press conference and in his flash interviews was like, you're so dependent on Kylian Mbappé, which is true. That's 11 games in a row now for club and country, where he's decisive. Without him, I mean, the way I saw when Rodrigo started with Maston Torno, nobody could dribble in that team. Vinicius came on, zero dribble out, four tried, attempted, sorry. It's only Mbappé making things happen in this team.
30:13Julien Laurens:And Goula then obviously came on and gave him that really good ball for the goal. But there's still so much for them, I think, to work on because you can't just rely on one guy because there are days where Mbappe won't score. What I would say a little bit is Valverde deputizing it right back, where I think he's good, but he doesn't seem to want to play there. Yeah. We had Camavinga's first start of the season. We had Bellingham's second start of the season. Maybe there's some chemistry there. Yeah, I think that plays a tough team too. By the way, Alan Neom, I mean, this is like straight out of NHL ice hockey in 1970.
30:48He sent on the goon. Like, it felt like he was sent on simply to hurt Vini and straight away he gets sent off. That was pretty surreal. Paris Bonham Bred,
31:00Julien Laurens:Angelo and Boni, of course I was going to mention he didn't put in your cricket. Scores the only goal as Inter Milan win away to Roma 1-0, Gab. Where have all Christian Cuvie critics gone? The CCCs? Yeah. I don't know, they're all silent. No, look, it's not easy. I think the criticism to some degree should still be there. Inter scored early. Roma had their chances I think the worst thing Inter can do is we got there Gasparini made it difficult for them Roma I think a draw would have been a fair result but the big thing for Inter is between Bonny and Pio Esposito, they have a B team at strikers that you can get excited for and who knows, might be your long term solutions too once Turam and Lautaro are gone Arsenal stay top of the Premier League as Leandro Trossard's scoffed shot gives them a 1-0 win away to Fulham Jules, as I see it, Arsenal were extremely lucky with a goal, but they also deserve the three points because sometimes more than one thing can be true.
32:01Julien Laurens:Yeah, absolutely. And it was a tough game against a team that hardly attacks, to be fair, like Fulham, even at home. But I think they managed, I thought they managed the game well. Yeah, they got a bit lucky on that goal, but there's other chances that they should have taken that they didn't. But, you know, I think this team is moving in the right direction for sure. They're so solid. They're the best defence by far, not just in England, but in Europe too. They're so solid. They don't give anything away to the opposition. And I thought that was very impressive in that sense. With the ball, especially with Eze playing now in the Odegaard position, there's more to come.
32:36Julien Laurens:But yeah, I thought it was good. I don't like Eze in that. I like Eze a lot. I don't like Eze in that position. I'd love it if there was a way to try and win Eri there. But Odegaard is missed. Milan by Fiorentina, 2-1 on Sunday. and go top of Serie A. But Gab, I have sensed you're going to have a goal at Paul Santi Jimenez. Yep. Absolutely. Look, I'll get the takeaways out of the way first. Rafael Leal scored an absolute wonder goal, which is good. And then he scored the penalty and Fiorentina, who had a 1-0 lead, fall 2-1 and Milan go top of the table. Now, a lot of mitigating circumstances through Max Allegri for the goal that we see.
33:11In Juiz? Yeah, no Rabiot, no Pulisic. You know, basically had four starters missing. Yeah. Okay, fine. But Santi Jimenez, the Fiorentina defender of Parisi, it looks like his hand maybe brushes his cheek. Santi Jimenez goes down, clutching his face. The referee, who sees it in real time, assesses the situation, says no foul. The guy at the VAR, whose name is Abiso, which literally means abyss, as in like the depths of the ocean, as in like the depths of stupidity, realizes, ooh, there must be a clear and obvious mistake, because poor Santi Jimenez is clutching his face, calls him over. Referee looks at it again a second time, says, whoa, if he called me over, it must have been a mistake.
33:58And they were the penalty last course. Fiorentina absolutely furious, as so they should be. I'm going to take my answer on Jimenez. Dude, you're cheating. Not the first time you've done this. Not the first time. You can't have it both ways. You can't be Mr. Angelic, I talk to God, God talks to me, and at the same time behave like this. This isn't cheating winning a foul. This is just really unseemly. I honestly, I wish Allegri would just shelf the guy and say, this is embarrassing to us. Especially shelf him when Pulisic is back, because you don't need him, maybe. Ronaldo Raojo has to transform himself into an emergency center forward for Barca-Girona, off the bench, no less, to beat Salih Buellin-Girona 2-1.
34:39Jules, this was ugly. This was a dad from Barca. Hansi Flick also got himself suspended for the Classico in a very stupid way.
34:45Julien Laurens:Yeah, very stupid way. Got sent off and won't be there, as you're right, will be in the stands for the Classico next weekend. Maybe his assistant, the guy I don't like, the guy who looks like a Jens Lehmann. Yeah, yeah. Poor performance from Barca. Is it being back from the international break or with the Champions League coming up or the Classico coming up. I don't know. They got lucky. It's a nice goal in the end is the way it's built, the cross by De Jong and that number nine finish by Arrojo coming from nowhere. Really great run from him. Great finish in the 92nd or 91st minute or something.
35:22Julien Laurens:But yeah, you're right. It was not deserved really against the Giroud team that is not a good team. No. Who's not doing well this season. So one win this season for Giroud. Yeah. And I have to say, obviously play the 17-year-old Tony up front. He's not good. I want to pick on the guy. He comes in the fourth division. Why? The issues run deeper than Flick, right? We can go about Flick, Highline, ha ha ha, whatever. Why are you sending him a team where Ferran Torres and Lewandowski is out and he feels like it's the right thing to do to chuck the 17-year-old kid in there who is not like 17-year-old and look, people think he's a man.
35:56He's not. He's just a dude. He's not good enough. Also, at some point, chickens come home to the roof Kubaski and Garcia. Paul Kubaski, not good in this. So you knock it on the Girona goal. Yeah, I think the worst thing you can do if you're Barcelona is not just blame everything on Flick. No. Yeah, I don't think they do either. He's just, yeah, they just go away with it. But at the same time,
36:16Julien Laurens:Pedri, that goal, yeah. Pedri is a special. Chelsea's called three after the break to win away at Nottingham for us. Gabben Zomaresca needed to switch it up at halftime though. Yeah, this is the same crap as before. You got players missing and your B team is not good. And look, he tried Andre Santos behind Joe Pedro. That was a bit of a disaster. That's not his position, though. Well, dude, somebody's got to play there. I looked better when Marky, who of all you have played, he makes the run. And he was good. He was just making the run. I think he's what Pedro needed. There's no Enzo Fernandez.
36:48There's no Cole Palmer. Defensively, all over the shop. And by the way, people can pick on Ashampong and Chalaba. It's not just them. It's these fullbacks around them. Malagusto, Rhys James, not a good game. We did have a Romeo-Lavia siding.
37:02Julien Laurens:When Corsillo came on, you saw the difference. They can't play without Corsillo. Sticking with Nottingham Forest, Ange Postekoglu is out, OUT, out of a job that's just 39 days. Mr. Marinakis has seen enough, Jules. Enough. 20 minutes after that defeat, 39 words, statement from Nottingham Forest for 39 days, in charge of disastrous, to be fair, tenure of Ange Postekoglu no wins in eight, the quickest manager sacking in the history of the Premier League or something like that. I know there are chances and I know they played decently in the first half. For me, it was because Chelsea were abject because of what you just explained in the previous answer.
37:43Julien Laurens:It was just not good enough. The players were not on board with Postecoglu. He wanted to change things too quickly. He was not smart enough. His communication was dreadful again. And it's the same mistakes being poor on set pieces. He's got this dain for set piece. He doesn't want to work on set pieces. This is not good enough. His teams are the teams that concede the most goals on the return after the break for a reason because he can't motivate the players enough after the break. I don't know. There's so many things that were pointing out that this was inevitable for me. Obvious question. Did you need this game to learn this about Ange?
38:19No. If you were going to sack him, sack him at the start of the break.
38:22Julien Laurens:Yeah, you're right. Absolutely. And I think Sean Dash is coming, which I think should be fair. Or no. Or no. Cesc Fabregas, como dan Juventus 2-0. Absolutely, the knives are out for Igor Tudor. There's also a mini-war of words with Cesc. Yeah, okay. So Juventus had a bunch of absentees, but guess what? So did como. Como had four wingers and they were all out. Okay, so don't give me this. So yeah, this explains why Rugani was playing, which not something you never want to see. See that, no. If you're a Juve fan, oh, he's a handsome man. And he's a nice guy, too. Igor Tudor, before the game. Hey, look, let me go and wind up Cesc.
38:57He's like, well, the Como manager can go and buy whatever players he wants in the world, and they'll just get him for him. She doesn't mention Cesc by name. I'm like, dude, I know for a fact you know who Cesc is. So I think that kind of annoyed Cesc. Cesc later fired back, saying, well, he's under a lot of pressure. He needs to win all the time. We'll see how it works out. But Como wiped the floor with Juve. Nico Pazian, again, Nicole, he's out of this world. It is too Como have spent a lot of money. But guess what? but they've also, Cesc has also improved a lot of players who have not cost a lot of money.
39:30And again, this Jonathan David, Lopenda. Vlaovic on for 13 minutes. Lopenda rooted to the bench when you're losing. Really? Canaan Yildiz playing so wide. A lot of this is on you, Igor. And now you got Real Madrid next. This was way, way back on Friday, but Paris Saint-Germain had to come from two goals down at home against Strasbourg to draw 3-3. Josie, you're still going to blame injuries in the Club World Cup?
39:57Julien Laurens:Well, I mean, this was a C-team again by Luis Enrique on the pitch, to be fair, against... Warren Thayer, and we thank you when you call him Mr. C-team. The man with the cap for France. Yeah, but he would not start if everybody was fit. That's as simple as that. And neither would be 80 % of the team that played on Friday. But, Strasbourg are a very good team. Liam Rosigno is doing an amazing job. They were 3-1 up with 25 minutes to go or something. Then 3-2 up. PSG came back. Mayudo scored again, which is lovely to see one of the games of the weekend without that wonderful, wonderful kind of level.
40:30Julien Laurens:And this Strasbourg team is going to go far, really far. And for PSG, you limit the damage really by getting a draw because with all the players missing, there was not other match and the Champions League coming up, obviously. I think Lucho was happy with what he saw in the end. Do you think we can naturalise Strasbourg centre forward? Panickeli? Italy, yeah. Yeah, maybe. I'm sure the guy's got an Italian name. Yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure. I'll have a look for you. We've done well with naturalized Argentina. Yeah, that's true. Atletico Madrid leave it late, but Giuliano Simeone sets up Thiago Almada's winner and San Yen Oblak does the race against Osasuna, Gab.
41:05It's ridiculous. Yeah. From Oblak at the very end. I don't think Atletico Madrid were bad. I don't blame Simeone for setting up the way he did. You give Koke the star. You try things out. In the end, this is why you have a deep team. So you can turn to your bench. Simeone, by the way. Lovely move to set up. I'll just tap it. Yeah, let's go. O, O, O, O 'Reilly! Aston Villa come from behind to win 2-1 away to Tottenham Hotspur. Jules, time to praise Unai Emery's genius or find fault with Spurs?
43:31Julien Laurens:I would say neither, Gab. I don't think there was anything genius in Unai Emery. I just scored two goals from a 0.3 XG. You've seen Natty Cash at those passes. You've seen Luka Dean juggle like that. I don't know how he died. Was it intentional? I don't know. The first control, yeah, but his second touch. First control, yeah. First control, difficult and special. The second one, the way he just bounces off his foot. It's like, maybe that. If Messi does that, I buy it. Or Neymar. I agree. But still, I mean, look, I think Paris is born and bred. So obviously very special human being. I thought this was a poor game from start to finish, really.
44:09Julien Laurens:I thought it was poor from Spurs being at home, which is not new. We saw that against Wolves, against Bournemouth. They clearly have problems at home. We go back to what we've said before. when they have the ball, a lot of it, they don't really know what to do. Xavi Simmonds was not good if Kudus doesn't do something and I know he crosses the ball on the first goal but this is difficult for them and despite the changes that Thomas Frank made, there was not really any difference and in the end, to be fair, I think a draw is probably a fair result more than the Villa win. Yeah, Matisse Tell, I don't, I don't understand Matisse Tell ahead of Kolo Mwani.
44:45I'm just, I'm going to assume they're all, I'm sure both, are they both Paris-born and bred? Both Paris-born and bred, of course. So you're a special human being?
44:51Julien Laurens:Yeah, absolutely. But at least they scored before the international break, then scored with the under-21s during the break. Colomani's what? The PlayStation? You saw Colomani coming on. Yeah. Exactly. But I think you're loading a lot of pressure on Xavi Simons, which he clearly doesn't seem to be ready for, because there's nobody in midfield right now, with the injured players, of course, who has any kind of personality coupled with technical ability, right? Well, I meant encore. A little bit. He's not, he wants to be the leader, but he's not. So maybe Bergvall has to play, but then I don't like Bergvall.
45:25Julien Laurens:So when you play at home, you need a 10 in that role. You can't have a runner like Bergvall or Papé Matassar. You need somebody with creativity. Especially when your wingers are all runners. Well, yeah, yeah. But like, you know, I mean, Kudos is not a runner, but if Kudos doesn't really do anything, you need that which worked against Leeds away didn't work in this game but it's yeah I think it's a it's a warning sign a little bit for Spurs and for Thomas Frank Great weekend for the Simeone family we mentioned Atletico already have we or not this is the yeah we mentioned Atletico already yeah that's it but Gio Giovanni Simeone his goal gives Torino the win over Napoli on Saturday and Antonio Conte says his team was too pretty what does that mean?
46:05First of all I want to just take a moment on Gio Simeone had a difficult time so homesick that when he left Naples, he made sure that they kept sending him the same coffee that they had at the training ground, FaceTiming the staff and whatever. Dude's not even from Naples. He just played there for a while and wasn't even that good when he was there. True. And Naples, I guess, gets in your heart. Go ask Rafa Benitez about that. As in that, Boliconta says, oh, my team was too pretty. We tried to play a little too much or whatever. I don't know why you're saying this. You tried to play too much. day, meaning what?
46:41You passed and created shots and didn't score. The reason they lost this game, I thought, is simply a quality issue. Billy Gilmour not as good as Stanislav Lovarca. McTominay being out means that you have to go with the two wingers to play with Luka, which is a good choice, but your wingers weren't good on this day. Maybe we should have seen Politano earlier. Luka had a nightmare. You couldn't get in the ball. And I think this generally explains it. All this said, it's telling about Conte that he always goes back to the same thing. Not aggressive enough. Not ugly enough. Work harder. Yeah, I don't know if he's playing us
47:16Julien Laurens:or if he's being played when he says that. Is it nine goals in nine games in Serie A this weekend? That was not talking about pretty. It's not over yet. It's not over yet. You have to come on, man. We have new leaders in Ligue 1, Jules. Yes. And it's not Paris Saint-Germain. No. Mason Greenwood scores four goals and Marseille beat Le Havre 6-2. I believe it's four teams within two points. Yeah, that's right. Very exciting. Top of the table in Ligue 1. Marte did well. Le Havre down to 10 men after 30 minutes when the score was 1-1. So there was only going to be one win. Is that guy related to Hugo Lloris?
47:54Julien Laurens:Yeah, it's his brother. That's why it's a bad weekend because if you saw Hugo Lloris' blunder with LAFC, big mistake. Then his brother got sent off the day before. Not a good weekend for the Lloris'. It's a good weekend, we say, for Simeone's family. Not for the Lloris' family. and Greenwood, I mean, outstanding. We would have scored some of those goals. Let's be clear here. There's one penalty. There's a couple of tap-ins, but there's one really good finish too. Right foot, left foot. He's so quick. He's so electric when he wants to be, again, because he's the attitude. Sometimes he doesn't really, he's a bit nonchalant on the pitch, but incredible talent that they have.
48:29Julien Laurens:And Marseille top of the table. Does that be very happy? We have Strasburg and Lange, two points behind, yeah. Lange who lost away at Nice, but really are in there. They were being lucky to lose. Lens, no European football. Marseille, no European football. Marseille have Champions League. Oh, that's right. They have Sporting, yeah. And Lyon have the Europa League. So, yes. Strasbourg have the Conference League. So, it will be good. Even these got closer now. Monaco, you know, we're waiting to see with a new manager. But, yes, it's going to be a very interesting season. Graham Potter has been confirmed that the new Sweden manager, Gab, is going back to his roots.
49:05Yes. obviously before that. Graham Potter is actually the weird English football type that actually went to university or whatever. I think he coached the university team in Hull or whatever. Yeah, Stoke or something. In football, actually, he went to Ostersen when they were in like the third or fourth division. It's not a fully romantic story because it was a guy putting money into the team. But he revolutionized him, put him on the map and took off from there. Now he's going back to Sweden. I want to say I wish him well, but they could be playing Italy in the playoffs. so I don't want to see that.
49:38But yeah, obviously Sweden need to be punching much higher than that. And it's not just Jokic and Isak. I think top to bottom, this is a team that should be going to the World Cup. And it's a good opportunity, I think, for Potti. Just as a deal through their World Cup qualification, which could be at the World Cup or could be before that. And then he'll be on the market again. What's up between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, Jules? Boom, boom, boom. Mateta's in the room as he bags a hat-trick. But then he misses the chance of the Lever 4-3 win. I felt bad for him. How about that, Ali Kruppi?
50:08Julien Laurens:Yeah, Ali Kruppi Jr., who's 19 years old and scored a brace. Ali Kruppi Jr. His dad was called the same. His dad was a really good player. This guy's better. I mean, yeah, but he was good when he was 16, 17. He played in Ligue 1 and in Ligue 2 when he was 17. He was amazing in the championship last year. Obviously, Bournemouth own Lorient, so it was easy for them to get him. I think he had to wait for his time to start in the Premier League and he played a little bit, but that was his first start. And then he was outstanding. I thought he's so good technically. Yeah, I can't wait to see how far he can go because it's very early, obviously.
50:48All this creepy chat means that you avoid mentioning the miss from France's Olympic centre forward.
50:56Julien Laurens:So what a week, first of all, for Jean-Philippe Mateta, scoring for France on his first start on Monday night. Then this hat-trick, his second in the Premier League in his career. really good I mean the first goal is what you expect from the first two goals then the penalty but then maybe the easiest is the one that he should have scored at the end and I felt bad for him because I think he tries too hard and eats too strongly and he doesn't need to and yeah they would have won the game I don't think like yeah it's noticeably the chance to win the game but his miss is when I thought the Gakpo miss was far worse than this one oh similar I would put them on the same bat no?
51:31Julien Laurens:yeah I think I don't but yeah it's a shame Jean-Philippe you should be very happy with it. Yeah, yeah. And celebrate, be positive. Yeah. Local law enforcement have banned Maccabee Tel Aviv fans from traveling to Birmingham to face Aston Villa in the Europa League on November the 6th, Gab. But the British government isn't happy. Yeah, so this is a bit of a theme. So essentially, there's two ways that away fans can suffer travel bans. One is if UEFA inflicts it on them, usually because of bad behavior in previous matches. The other one is because the local police force, and it's slightly different from place to place, it'll be the police force in conjunction with football intelligence, local politicians, whatever.
52:18They decide, no, we won't want these away fans here. Obviously, with Maccabi Tel Aviv, there's a history given what happened when they went to Amsterdam last year, there was a backlash. The local police in Birmingham, or the people responsible in Birmingham have decided that they don't want them. The British government is saying they're not happy in both parties, both conservatives and Labour. I haven't heard from the other guy yet, but he's busy with other stuff. And they're saying, no, no, this is giving in to anti-Semitism. We should be able to provide for the security, whatever. Hang on, Jules, I don't know where you stand.
52:56My basic stance is, it's local police and the local people that have to pick up the can have to pay for this. So if you have to increase policing to be sure that everybody's safe, then the government can cut a check for that. Yeah. Send people. But if you're going to expect local people to foot the bill,
53:15Julien Laurens:that's what you get. I don't understand. Like, PSG fans are not allowed to travel by the police to Marseille for the classic. Lyon fans can't go to Saint -Étienne. Marseille fans don't go to Paris because it's too dangerous and you don't want to take that risk because of the financial cost, probably sometimes even the risk of people's life being in danger. So I don't understand why this has become such a big controversy, really. I guess there's, well, there's a certain backdrop. There's a political backdrop. No, no, no, I understand that. But it's just... I also wonder, too, like, you knew this match.
53:50This match has been in the calendar since the end of August. Yeah. And if you guys in government cared, or the opposition for that matter. You guys cared so much about this. You would have taken steps before now. Completely. I agree. I like things my way, my coffee, my schedule, and my treatment. So I talked to my doctor about self-injecting with the Vivgard Hytrulo Pre-Filled Syringe, which contains F-Gartigamide Alpha and Hyaluronidase QVFC. It's injected under your skin subcutaneously. 55:03Jules, you love your youth football. How about Yassir Zabiri and Morocco beating Argentina 2-0 to win the under-20 World Cup?
55:11Julien Laurens:An incredible achievement for this quite great generation of Moroccan talent. Wonderful, the best team by far in the whole tournament. They beat France on penalties in the semifinal, but deserve really, I think, even for me to say, to go through. And then they beat Argentina, who had beaten Colombia in the other semifinal. Comfortably, two goals from Zabiri, one free kick, one volley. He's been incredible. And some of the players you don't know play for Canberra in the RL Divis. They play for Watford. I mean, Mama, who is the player of the tournament, the right winger from Morocco, who was born in Montpellier, played for Montpellier, then moved to Watford, has not played yet in the championship, even before going to this World Cup, because they don't think he was ready.
55:54Julien Laurens:And yet they shine at that level and in the age group. Wonderful talent. Yassine, for the people who love that kind of winger, who plays for Dunkerque in the French second division. Incredible talent. Really well done to them. And it's not just them, because we saw the men's, obviously, A-team doing really well at the World Cup in Qatar. All the money and the support they put in their youth football all around with the centre of excellence that they built in Morocco, academies there it's just co-hosting the 2030 World Cup of course yeah they will as well which they will be a force it's great so I think that what I wanted to say is that they deserve all that success that they're getting at youth level but also the men's first team because they put a great plan together Gab you get all the harsh questions about band trafficking fans and difficult questions sorry but an track official had harsh words after the supporters were banned from traveling to face Napoli in the Champions League.
56:55Julien Laurens:They said it's affecting the integrity of the competition. Basically, what this guy's coming out and saying is that, well, wait a minute, then anybody can do that and then there'll be no away fans and it gives an advantage to home fans. Yeah. So, first of all, look at your own fans and look at their history. Look at Napoli fans and look at their history. I'm very much like Napoli Ultras, who have a bad, some of them have a really, really bad record. Yeah. Eintracht fans, also really, really bad record. And then maybe have some respect for the people who happen to live in Naples and are not football fans and could really give a hoot.
57:34Not only are they not violent, they don't care about Napoli, they don't care about Frankfurt. Bro, you're not the center of the universe. I'm going to go back to what the wise Carlo Ancelotti said. Football is the most important of the least important things. Yeah. If the police want to make a statement because of your history, I don't see Napoli fans. I don't see Napoli sort of banning Real Madrid fans when they come to visit. You should be more scared of them, right? Than your freaking Eintracht Frankfurt, with all due respect. Achieve something first and then come talk to us, right? So I don't understand this.
58:08Certainly football can't be in. We go back to the same thing. Of entitlement where people think we get to travel wherever we want, blah, blah, blah. No. There are other people who live outside. We make money off of it. And this is how we support our families. We're part of the ecosystem. But we recognize that there's people outside it, normal, ordinary citizens who don't care. And they should not be affected by it. And they should not have to pay for stuff like this. That's very true. Jules, it's that messy guy again. He gets a hat-trick as Inter Miami beat Nashville 5-2.
58:39Julien Laurens:It's just too easy for him, Gab. That's what it is. I mean, if you look at him play, one of the goals, the first one maybe, this is the kind of move that he did 10 years ago or 15 years ago when he was younger and fitter and I know this is MLS it's not in the Champions League no offence to MLS or Nashville but it's not a game against Real Madrid at their peak or Champions League I get that but still the guy is an absolute freak and it's amazing to see we said that before it tells you also a lot about the level overall of MLS fine but the guy is still obviously the goal and very special 29 goals in 28 league games.
59:19Julien Laurens:Let's see the playoffs are coming now. Let's see how they do. Because so far, obviously, since he's been at Inter-Miami, playoffs haven't been their things really or his things. So we'll see this time. But they are the best. They should win. They should win the MLS club. They are the best team. The MLS regular season record, I think, is 34 goals. I think it was Carlos Vela a few years ago. Oh, yeah, that's right. if you had played, if you just focused on breaking that record this year, I'm assuming, yeah. But even if you add the goals plus the assist, he's got like a ridiculous amount of assist as well.
59:52Julien Laurens:I think it's 16 or 17. It just smashes everything. Like, you know, goals involvement per 19 minutes must be so high. Back to Maccabi Gab. Sorry, it's another tough question for you, but their big derby against recently promoted Apoel Tel Aviv had to be abandoned before kickoff. Yeah, now I should stress, I suppose, Maccabi, Tel Aviv, and Hapa al-Talaviv, both from Tel Aviv, hence why it's a derby. I don't believe there's much of a political basis. This is not, this is a purely Israeli affair, although, of course, there are Israeli-Arab fans of both teams, and Israeli-Arab players, I believe, of both teams.
1:00:31This is just good old-fashioned hooliganism and rivalry. And before, there were flares, there were stones being thrown. There were 25 people were detained between those who were arrested and then later released. 15 injuries, including three police officers. And this is, if you want, nothing to do with politics, purely as full rivalry, right? Honestly, if you're Maccabi Tel Aviv. And by the way, this is Maccabi Tel Aviv. This isn't Beitar, Jerusalem. This is not one of the extreme teams. You wanted to make an argument about how maybe it's best not to put these guys in Birmingham. where they elected an independent MP because of his pro-Palestinian views, Ayub Khan, because he didn't identify with the Labour Party.
1:01:18Yeah. Maybe this is the best argument. Now you can do yourself any favors. Yeah. I just want people to be safe. I want people to play football whenever, wherever, within the limits of what they can do. And clearly this did not advance the cause. Just the one goal for Cristiano Ronaldo, but it's a big one. That's right. Joao Felix gets a hat trick, but I don't like him. So I don't want to go on that. Al Nasser beat Al Fateh 5-1. But Jules, moments designed to go viral. What did you make of Cristiano and Aisho Speed at the end?
1:01:49Julien Laurens:Cristiano scored a great goal, as you mentioned, but missed a penalty, by the way, just before that. But his friend, Aisho Speed, who was his biggest fan, right, I gather? His biggest fan, not his biggest friend. Yeah, fan. I think Cristiano has other friends. Yes, I'm sure. Closer to his age. Was behind the goal with the Al Nasser Ultras. And as the players after the game come and celebrate and do the usual kind of clapping stuff. Cristiano is pointing at Aisho Spid for him to do it, but Aisho Spid has no idea what to do, really. He has not watched Iceland or the Minnesota Vikings or whatever.
1:02:19Julien Laurens:Or Al Nasser even before, which is surprising because he's supposed to be Cristiano's best, biggest fan when this is what Al Nasser players do every time. I mean, I was there, so I've seen it last season. Could it see that maybe all he watches are the clips of Cristiano highlights and nothing of the fans? Of course, maybe. He's a crazy man. But the best bit is he's asking him to beat the drum. Is that what you're saying in English? And again, I should speak, we're not really sure either what a drum is or how to beat the drum to do the thing. So I'm sure next time it will be much smoother operation, if you see what I mean.
1:02:52Julien Laurens:The eyes of the world were on Sharm el-Sheikh last Friday, Gabi, as negotiations took place between Israel and Hamas. Were you surprised or did you find it weird that Gianni Infantino was also there with all the heads of states and presidents from all around the world? It is a bit unusual. Yeah. But I have to say this. I mean, when, and Gianni Infantino, of course, gets killed about, oh, look, he wants to be the center of attention, blah, blah, blah. From what we understand, Donald Trump, the president of the United States, who was also there, asked Gianni Infantino to come. Yeah. So, if the president of the United States wants you there, when you are the leader of FIFA, who's organizing, it's the same thing.
1:03:31Like, when he went to the Gulf, remember, he missed out of the FIFA Congress. Now, you can say, oh, you should stand up to him. And maybe if the World Cup weren't in the U.S., and Canada and Mexico, then maybe Johnny Fadino would be here differently. Obviously, he doesn't mind the spotlight. Obviously, it is odd. There's 20 heads of state and heads of government, and there's this bald guy there from a sporting organization, right? And sure, a sport can be a vehicle for peace or whatever, but I don't see Kirstie Coventry there from the IOC or other people like that. And does he milk it a little bit?
1:04:03Yeah. Yeah, but from his perspective, again, I wouldn't fault him. I would have gone. Yeah, me too. Would you have gone? We were president. We were co-presidents of Fiesta. We would both be there.
1:04:15Julien Laurens:Yeah, exactly. There you go, Johnny. When you step aside, or if you want us to replace you, you know. Just like you have a special league. You have his mate for that. I think Joseph. Great FA president. Thank you. Premier League. Chairman, Premier League. Chairman of Premier League. Chief executive. Sorry. Richard Masters, I'm coming for you. Yeah, you'd be amazing. You're okay with it. All right, Jules, this brings us to an end. We've got to come back on Thursday. You know why? The champions! I'm so excited. Hyped and amped. Until then, love the game. Love your neighbor. Love yourself.
1:04:56Turn it up. Storm has zero sugar and 200 milligrams of caffeine. so you can turn that workout up a notch. Good energy in, good energy out.
1:05:06Julien Laurens:Energy for life.
