0:34Luis Garcia:Welcome in to the latest edition of ESPN FC. I'm Dan Thomas, joined by Shaka here, it's fucking Stevie Nichol. In the Premier League we could start with Chelsea or Liverpool, but we thought we'd kick things off by wallowing in Stevie's misery. It's another disappointing performance from Arna Slaught's side, who of course looked so good midweek. That's the end of that. Brighton thoroughly deserving of their 2-1 victory. It wasn't all bad for Liverpool, because Chelsea would then lose against Everton. So what it means is that Liverpool remain one point clear in the race of the Champions League. But look at Everton now on the chase of their Merseyside rivals.
1:07Luis Garcia:Seven matches to go. Liverpool, of course, chasing that place in the Champions League. Stevie, for those who didn't see the match, how bad were Liverpool today?
1:19Well, I think a miss would sum up. You know, and the funny thing is we were laughing over the last couple of days about a Liverpool back because they battered Galatasaray. Yeah. And watching this, a Liverpool going backwards. Because it reminded me of what we were seeing before Christmas. Liverpool behind, on the slot, making all kinds of substitutions. Midfielders going to right back. Midfielders going to centre back. I mean, just a mess. And when this game finished, the team was a complete mess. Now, some would argue that Anders Lott's got to try something. That's how bad they were. That any changes would have made it better.
1:59But as I said, when you look at the team that started and then you look at the team that finished and the positions they're all playing in, this is just a scramble. He is absolutely scrambling around to try and figure out how to get this team together. And the truth is he still hasn't found it. Are we March? Yeah. The thing is for me, to your question, Dan, is this any worse than what we've seen for a whole lot of this season from Liverpool? What I thought was interesting
2:26Luis Garcia:today was slightly different. Arnazlott's come out with this narrative. It's very difficult to play against teams who put 11 players behind the ball. It's difficult to break them down. And Brighton have not been one of those teams for so long. And Brighton, it was such an open game today. But even so, right? Regardless, maybe he's kind of trying to change the narrative of their season, some of their struggles during the course of the season. But as this game went on, I don't think this was any different from what we've seen for Liverpool for at least 50 % of the season. I think it felt different because it got a Tassaray game and result.
2:57So now all of a sudden you're thinking, well, this is Galatassaray, you made the argument, is as good as Liverpool have been all season. And now you think, well, finally things are clicking for them. But that aside, the Galatassaray game aside, this is no real difference from what we've seen. You know, we were criticising Rossinia the other day for being inexperienced and naive with his comments. Anastolot doesn't fall into that category. So why is Anastolot not coming out and saying, you know what? This isn't good enough. We got beat in every single category possible today. Outplayed, outfought, outran, outthought.
3:37I mean, you name it. Every category that it takes to run a football team. Liverpool were second best today. And I would expect a manager of his experience to come out and say that instead of coming out with some sort of narrative about injuries or teams sitting back behind the ball.
3:54Luis Garcia:He has got a point though, hasn't he? Ekotike obviously out, Isak out. You're playing without a striker. He has some excuses that are valid, yes. But, when you play in a game and you get beaten on every single category that counts in football, you can't turn around and start throwing out little excuses. Sometimes you've got to put your hands up and say, this isn't good enough. I've not been good enough. I need to find a way. That's the kind of rhetoric he needs to be coming out with. Not lame excuses. Because that's what that's... That one you just brought out there, I didn't know he said that.
4:32No, that was before this game, though, to be fair. This is what he did. I mean, and again, that's just a lame excuse.
4:38Luis Garcia:What's interesting... So, what was it, 24 points? They're 24 points worse off than they were at this time last season. If I've been on the moon and I've just come back and I haven't seen any of Liverpool this season. You wouldn't believe it. What's the reason? How many reasons do you need? What's the key reason? There's not one key reason. Right. There's not one key reason. There are just so many reasons. I mean, this time last year, they only lost the second game. I think they've lost nine already. I mean, that's just, that's not acceptable. And the reasons are, there's multiple. Arna Slott clearly hasn't been at his best because of the way the team's playing.
5:19The players 100 % haven't been at their best. You question whether... What does Arna Slott have to do to warrant keeping his job?
5:29He somehow... Now, listen, I think he should keep his job, regardless of whether he gets in the Champions League or not. I think he should keep his job because of what he did last year. And then he gets, here's your chance. You've got to change it now. Because sometimes, you know, a lot of people say to me already, they go, well, he's not changing it now. So how is he going to change it in the new year? Well, trust me, professionally it does change. Teams can be at that level and then they drop down. Certainly not as low as Liverpool have dropped down without a real honest, straightforward, with you can put your finger on the excuse.
6:09So that's why I think he should get another chance at the start of the season. That really is where I think he is. I agree. I think he will. I think Liverpool will finish in the Champions League spots. Speculation is that England will get another fifth-place spot.
6:26Luis Garcia:Jack, you just said this doesn't surprise you. We've seen this from Liverpool most of the season. They've got seven games to go. Why are all of a sudden they going to find enough form to push themselves into a Champions League? Well, not this year. If England gets that fifth spot, I think Liverpool just about squeak in because so many others are kind of flailing around them similarly. Nothing happens in a vacuum. We're on a slot, not Liverpool's manager last season for whatever reason. And he comes in, spends 500 million in the summer. And then you see this. There's no question in my mind that he would not be Liverpool's manager to start next season.
7:03But he saw them through to a title win last season. that's brought him just about enough equity to see him start next season. I think Arnaz Slott, this has been a season for Liverpool to learn a lot from, including Arnaz Slott. Now, again, while you could look at the squad, whether you want to blame injuries, just poor form generally, I also think I've sat here in this studio and said time and time again, you give players an excuse to lose a game, nine times out of ten they're going to take it. On the back of that result against Galatasaray, he comes up and says, well, we're the only team playing on a Saturday and a Sealy.
7:41While that's true and that's valid, build on the momentum that you generated against Galatasaray. Don't talk about, well, everybody else has played Sunday. You want to play tomorrow. That's the message you've got to be giving. But he kind of comes up with this. And again, you see a rather lethargic performance from Liverpool, which surprised no one, really. I think I'm right in saying, if this happened to any other big club,
8:09Luis Garcia:this manager would be gone. At the end of the season. Not if they won the league the previous season. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Xavi won. Let's be honest, we can't use Real Madrid as the template. But what I'm saying is, Liverpool have these aspirations. I understand what you're saying. Rightly to be a big boy. so you have to make big boy decisions and to give Arnaslott another 300 million in the summer to spend when you're not sure about whether or not he can cope and that would be the reason that would be the reason why he would get the sack because they don't want to give him that amount of money, that would be the reason and that really is there's certain things that have to happen and one of them is Liverpool are going to have to go out and spend more money because this squad of players isn't changing unless they make changes.
9:03This squad is done. Right. They've got some big decisions to make, whether it's Mo Salah. Right. Virgil van Dijk has not had a great season. I'm pretty sure Kanati's on his way. They need to sign. They need to sign a proper right back. And the question is, do they need to sign a left back? They need to look in the middle of the park and say, what has gone wrong in the middle of the park? The three players that carried Liverpool to a title last season have not performed. And the question is, is that because Verts came? Is Verts the one that's upsetting the apple? They have so many decisions to make, but they have to make silence.
9:41But here's the thing. To change the attitude of the squad. While I get the conversation, whether you trust Arnaz's slot with another 300 million, 500 million, whatever it is. That's the only question. I understand that. When those players were signed, nobody questioned them. Nobody questioned their value, how good they were. Exactly. So surely it falls to the coach's door. I'm just making the point that I think it's a much broader conversation than do you trust him with that kind of money? Because those players were signed. But then you've got all the new signings have underperformed and credited to Alexander Izak.
10:23He's been injured for a long spell, but he wasn't playing particularly well before that. None of these signings have really performed as we thought they would, as we sat here in the summer and thought they would. Nobody from last season has performed in any way that we thought they would. So this is why Arna Slott, I think it's a far broader conversation about Arna Slott, his coaching, his management, than just do you trust him with that kind of money. But I think we've nailed it down to the reason why he would get the sack. And for me, that is really simple.
10:59Luis Garcia:They lost 10 Premier League games. Yeah. No, but for me, it really boils down to whoever's making the decision, the final decision, that exactly will be the question. Because of what happened after we signed so many players last year, A, we clearly need to sign players. There's no doubt. They have to go and make signings. so the question becomes for the man in charge whoever it is that makes the final decision is do I trust Anaslaut with this money and these new players and do you if the answer is yes and do you as Steve Nichol cool I think I think right now because he won the title last year you know I think we tend to forget what he took over was a bit of a machine and all the questions were how's this guy going to take over from Klopp?
11:50You know, Klopp's not a normal manager. There are certain managers in football who are just special. And you can't say Klopp wasn't special. So actually, all the talk was, well, it's going to be the same as what happened when Fergie left Man United and this and that and all of these things. And it didn't. He won the league. So you know what? Unless you can turn around and convince me that he was lucky, then I think he deserves another shot. But you think of that league title winning side,
12:17Luis Garcia:How many players did he sign? Exactly. No, well, it's not exactly. What do you mean exactly? So, how about you look at it from the other side of the fence? A new coach comes in, different way of playing, different ideas, because every single coach has got his own ideas. They're all different to the guy next to you. Yes. But he turned that into a title-winning team. So can you not look at it that way? Instead you just want to go straight to the negative. No, but we've just seen the negative, isn't it? It's like he was driving an automatic and then someone's giving me a Ferrari, which is stick, and he just can't drive it.
12:56Luis Garcia:He doesn't know what he's doing with it. Well, you're saying that. I'm not so sure that a guy who wins the Premier League, having taken over from Klopp, who changed the way they played, which nobody had a problem with, all of a sudden doesn't know where the gear stick is. I'm not so sure. I think too many of the players are getting off with the fact the way they're performing. Because to say they're performing below par is an understatement. Some of them are absolute garbage. You can't sack them. Here's the thing, though. You're tasking me to make that final decision. One of the first things you've got to ask is, if I sack Arnestlo, who comes in?
13:35Xavi Alonso. Correct. But now, while I sit here and say... He did well. I think he did well Real Madrid We did well
13:43Luis Garcia:But hold on And you're citing Bayern Munich You're citing Arnest Slott yeah Winning a title Well I'm just I'm just I'm just playing you again But I'm just playing you again Xavi Alonso took over a team That were fighting relegation And turned it around They were unbeaten And won the Bundesliga Right Arnest Slott took over a team Who had the calibre To win the Premier League And that's exactly what happened Right So I I think you to dismiss To dismiss Xavi Alonso in the manner that you have. I'm not dismissing. I'm playing you a game. I'm playing you a game. Very dismissing. Because every single thing we've just spoken about over the last five minutes depends on which way you want to look at it.
14:20Luis Garcia:Yes, I believe. You just happened to have looked at Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen and conveniently decided to forget the disaster that was Real Madrid. Yes, but we're... But I've chosen to do the opposite. I've chosen to look at the disaster of Real Madrid and forget about Leverkusen. So we're just playing the same game. Right. Whichever way, right? You could play that game. If we do decide to sack on a slot, whether you start the next season or six months in, we'll have that same conversation. Manager A, but what happened at such and such a club? There's nobody right now outside of probably Cesc Fabregas who has a squeaky clean reputation that that will come in.
15:04now Xabi Alonso I think ticks all the boxes for Liverpool for a number of reasons I think the Liverpool fans would love to see him come in there now again you've tasked me to make that decision I'm I'm kind of thinking well I'd like to start with on a slot but then do you take the chance that I mean four or five months in Xabi Alonso has gotten another job and now I'm looking at on a slot thinking he's it's not working out so what do you do Shane I call Stevie.
15:35Luis Garcia:I call Stevie. I call Stevie. I call Stevie for advice. Whatever car Liverpool are driving is in reverse at the moment. Everton 3, Chelsea 0. It has been a horrible run of late, hasn't it, for Liam Rossini? Everton outplayed them from start to finish in their tie, thoroughly deserving of the win. Horrible week. And of course for Chelsea, losing against Newcastle over those two legs, humiliated by PSG, going now to Merseyside and not turning up.
17:42Luis Garcia:What's wrong? I think you'd have to question the desire today. At no stage did they look as though they were interested. There was nothing to hang your hat on in terms of, you know, sometimes you can leave a ground, particularly away from home, and say, you know, we lost the goal at the wrong time, or we got unlucky with that, or the goalie made a mistake. Boy, you're sitting on the bus playing whatever it is and looking at his performance, and every single piece of it was off and horrible. and the biggest problem would be, for me, was my team showed no desire whatsoever. They played from the first pretty much to the 90th minute and just accepted what was happening.
18:26Right. They just accepted what was happening. Everton were at home. Everton looked as though they were hungry and Chelsea just looked as though they didn't have the fight for it. A couple of things about this Chelsea performance that kind of made me wonder. one are they now at a stage where they're looking for scapegoats who to blame in this in that there was a passage of play that Enzo Fernandez could have slipped in Cole Palmer he didn't and Cole Palmer remonstrated no given that is Enzo Fernandez and some of his own theatrics you don't want to read too much but that that just seems to me on the back of Enzo Fernandes and his antics and now Cole Parman and others you just wonder if they're starting to blame each other for what's going on and then to Stevie's point while you can look at the goals the third goal apart and blame individual errors no question for Fainer doesn't track Beto but then if you look at the build-up play to that goal from Everton two players pass the ball in midfield nobody from Chelsea gets anywhere close if you look at the build-up to the second Yes, it was a Robert Sanchez mistake, but two Chelsea players run into each other.
19:38I mean, it just feels so comical right now, some of the mistakes from Chelsea. And again, which is why I'm now starting to feel that this season is just winding down. Quite clearly, Chelsea can't be rid of it quickly enough. And these players are, a lot of them, trying to save their own heights. What does that tell you about Rosinha? Well, it tells me a lot about the players, that if you step onto the pitch, the first thing or one of the things that comes to your mind when things start going poorly is I'm looking for who to point at, who to remonstrate at. But no, to your question, you need a strong manager on the sidelines to kind of call that out.
20:19And whether it's drop players or make examples of them somehow, and I'm not sure that Leroy Rosinia, Liam Rosinia, excuse me, is that person. You don't get that feeling from him, from some of his body language on the sidelines. Yeah, you don't get the feeling that he's got that nasty streak in him. No. They're all good managers. I've got that side. You just... You know, as a player in a dressing room, when things are going bad, that's the one thing when you're coming off the field, whether it's half-time or at the end of a game, when you've not performed, and you're thinking, oh, I hope he's not.
20:54I hope we don't see that side of him.
20:57Luis Garcia:This is Premier League and Champions League. Yeah. This is horrible. Yeah. tactics, coaching, all that's all great but sometimes you need a fist and sometimes you've got to use it and you just wonder whether he's got a fist and you wonder whether he can actually use it and that I guess we'll find out the next time Chelsea step on the field because as a coach, next time you go out you point to this game and say I will not accept what happened at Hill Dickinson Stadium you threw me then so what happens next we've got to see the response what if there's no response and this just kind of to the summer and then are we talking about another manager for Chelsea well yes because if there's no response you know if I'm director of football that's what I'm looking for particularly after this poor performance I want a response.
21:58And if I get a response, that will tell me that the players have still got it in them to go out and win games. And that has to come from both the manager and the players. If they come out and they put on the same sort of performance as they did at Everton, then you've got to start questioning the manager whether he can actually deal with the players. Can he motivate them? All of those questions are needed answers. and if Chelsea limped from here to the end of the season then you absolutely got to start thinking about another manager I'm just looking at Chelsea's upcoming games now, they've got Port Vale in the cup then they're home to Manchester City home to Manchester United away to Brighton Chelsea could quite easily lose those three quite easily probably the only question mark is Brighton but look what they just did Liverpool and sure to your question I think Liam Rossini is in danger
23:00Luis Garcia:At what stage do we start looking above Liam Rossini and saying we've talked about this defence for so long that there should have been reinforcements made to this Chelsea squad a long time ago and they didn't come I think the fact that not that long ago Chelsea's Chief Scout Director of Football was Todd Bowley who quite frankly knows nothing about football so that's what you're dealing with at Chelsea nobody quite knows who actually has the final say and who's in charge and who's making the decisions because clearly they're getting them wrong and consistently wrong so if you think that Todd Bowley is going to let Chelsea limp to the end of the season between now and then without making a move then you're mistaken Who would you prefer to be in the moment?

23:50Luis Garcia:Arnaud Slott or Liam Rossini? Arnaud Slott, I've got a title win under my belt. And that stands up to the test. So regardless of what happens in the next few months, you know Arnaud Slott, as his reputation takes a dent, but he's going to find work. I meant safety-wise, obviously. Oh, safety-wise. Yes, sorry, just in life. No, safety-wise, I think Liam Rossini is in far more danger. Especially given Chelsea's history. well, both Chelsea's and Liverpool's history around managers. Liverpool tend to back their managers. Chelsea, as we've seen, both under Abramovich and under Blue Square, whatever it's called, Todd Bowley, they have at the slightest dip in results, they have parted ways with their manager.
24:40I think the difference between Chelsea and Liverpool is that Liverpool's owners have got vast experience in the sporting industry. And don't panic. They don't jump to conclusions and make quick, off-the-cuff decisions. That's what Chelsea do. So that's why you would be more worried about Rosinia.

Hello and welcome to the Riad Air Metropolitano. Welcome to the capital of Spain, welcome to the Madrid derby.
26:18Luis Garcia:It's match day seven in La Liga EA Sports and it's already a must-win game for Atletico against their bitter crosstown rivals. Lecae la pelota a Juliano, el envío, el remate! Gol, gol, gol, gol, gol, gol, gol! Here is Mbappé into space, killing Mbappé! El recorte fantástico de Vinicius, el centro, el punto de penalti, el remate, golazo! Real Madrid have turned it around at the Metropolitano. In the center of Koke, Sarro! Goal, goal, goal, goal, goal, goal! What a game this is! 2-2. Floated in, it's a great ball. Ade Kuler punished for the high boots. Julian, goal, goal, goal, goal, goal, goal!
26:59Luis Garcia:Atletico Madrid take the lead once more. And Sanabin for the side, Nicole pega. Julian, Kuler! Goal! Kuler! Julian with a piece of genius and Atleti are in dreamland. They are coming forward and a chance for Antoine Griezmann to make it five. A historic afternoon for Atleti. They have put five past league leaders Real Madrid. It is the 304th time these two sides have met and this is a big one for the coach Xavi Alonso. There's still debate about what his future might be. The Pajarito Golazo comes out! Wow! How about that? From Feli Valverde! My goodness me, that is a traitor bullet! Well, the ball from Valverde for Rodrigo, he escaped!
27:48There he is, the second! He hit it!
27:49Luis Garcia:Rodrigo, brilliant from him! Solo goal and finished superbly! Simeone, solo scores this time, Tex Poguena! He left Julián, he's done! Oh, that was nearly it! That is the moment for Atletico to grab an equaliser. They ground that out, Real Madrid, and they've got the job done.
28:13Luis Garcia:Since then, of course, there was a new man in charge. Arbaloa taking over Real Madrid, who safely made it through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League this week, and is still in the title race with Barcelona. For more on this, look at this beautiful line-up. Look at that, Ian Dart, the most handsome of them all. Ian. I wish. I've got two footballers here who are world experts in Spanish football, unlike me, I should add. But look, I think it's pretty clear from what the coach was saying there that Kylian Mbappe will be playing and he'll be an electric presence, won't he? It has to be.
28:50Luis Garcia:And everybody is expecting about Kylian Mbappe to bring his best. I'm not sure if he's going to be 100 % fit and sharp, but what we saw, and I was making a point, we saw a very good and sharp, and with that eager of showing that Kylian Mbappe is back and he's going to do a good job. Very needed for Real Madrid, because against Atletico Madrid, Kylian Mbappe is going to be very important. Not only his skills, his ability of moving around, not being in one place, and of course the goals. Mario, he seems to score, doesn't he, just about every game. this season I mean there's very few he hasn't scored in yes we cannot doubt about the quality of Kylian Mbappé scoring goals but what we were talking in Spain this season is that we demand more or we expect more in terms of leadership and playing with the team because it's true that he's scoring goals but they are not winning titles and they are away now from the Copa del Rey they are not so far but far from Barcelona in La Liga and let's see in Champions League but of course he's one of the best strikers in the world but personally I demand more on him I expect more on him in other things from the football pitch.
30:02Luis Garcia:He looked very sharp I thought when he came on for 20 minutes against Manchester City the other night but of course Atletico have Julian Alvarez who is bang in form at the moment as Spurs founder I think he was involved in five of the seven goals in that tie and in that 5-2 game earlier this season when Atletico beat Real 5-2 at the Metropolitano. He ran them ragged, really, didn't he? I think Juliano is back a little bit on his bed. He's confident again. The team, let's not forget, we normally focus a lot on the strikers because they don't score, but the amount of work that this player has been doing, the amount of effort, continuous effort every single game, is being shown, and I think that's why he's been keeping on the field every single time because he's got a lot of confidence.
30:47Luis Garcia:But when he's on the score sheet, we always are a lot happier. And I'm sure that Simeone is looking forward to see Juliano Arbanez once again showing that he's one of the best strikers in the world. One of the little subplots here is that both first-choice goalkeepers, we think, are injured. Definitely Thibaut Courtois. He's out for six weeks. He'll miss the two games against Bayern Munich and Iano Black as well. So two substitute goalies, in a way. Musso for Atletico Madrid. it. What's the biggest danger, do you think, with having the reserve goalkeeper? Who suffers most of the two teams? Well, I think Juan Musso is proving that he can play really well at a high level.
31:29Luis Garcia:It's not easy when you are a substitute player from General Black. I think Courtois is now one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the world, and it's going to be more difficult for Lunin because Courtois, as I told you before, is amazing saving the team in a lot of matches. So let's see what we can see tomorrow. But for sure that Oblak and Courtois, both teams, I think they are going to miss him. Definitely. I noticed Musso is in the Argentinian squad that's just been announced. Yeah, and he's done a great job. The other day, I think he made a few fantastic saves to save Atletico de Madrid of getting the result.
32:05Luis Garcia:But I think that at this stage, by the way that Coutois has been so key for Real Madrid in specific moments. I think that Real Madrid is going to suffer a lot more. Looney has been doing a great job every single time that he's been involved. Let me say that. But he's a totally different keeper. And I think that the defense feels safer when you've got a keeper like Coutois that not only because of his reflexes in the air with the ball, everything shows that he's a leader. Not many leaders that Real Madrid has got on the field. Alba Loa's first Madrid derby. Diego Simeone is facing his tenth Real coach here.
32:45Luis Garcia:He's been in charge for 15 years. I mean, you know all about Simeone. I mean, did you see that the other day? The players in this vote, they voted him the most annoying man on the sidelines. But is he annoying because he's so good or what is it? Well, it's one of the key points from Simeone. The energy that he puts, that he brings in every, not only in the matches, in the training ground every day. It's amazing the energy the ability to motivate the players to make them believe in the message that is not easy. 14 years the same coach hearing the same message. So I think it's one of the key points of Simeone and tomorrow is going to be the first derby for Arbeloa as a coach.
33:25Luis Garcia:So let's see tomorrow what happens. But Simeone knows what to do here. It's true that I think he won just two times here. I don't think I'm right. but it's not easy to win here. Let's see what happens tomorrow. It's his 50th Derby. I mean the idea that the game is bigger for Real Madrid because they're in the title race and Atletico on I think you can throw that out the window can't you always I think that with Simeone on the bench I think that you can throw this game is becoming a more special and more competitive than ever and We've seen it at Atletico Madrid won in the first leg and now in the second one in the second part of the season with all the problems the both teams have had during the season.
34:03Luis Garcia:I think the Real Madrid at the moment with the injuries that they got, I think maybe they are going to struggle a little bit more. But competitively, it's always going to be. And much more. Mario was talking about Simeone on the sideline, pushing. He's always keeping on your toes. So we'll have to wait and see if Abreloa can manage the situation that is happening outside, that sometimes are very important also. It's pretty amazing that Real Madrid haven't won any of the last six league meetings. In fact, the last three times they've played here in the league at the Bernabeu, it's been 1-1. What's your prediction, Mario?
34:35Luis Garcia:I have to say 1-2 for Atletico Madrid, but I expect a match with goals because I think both teams attack better than they defend. And it's true that they are the two teams of La Liga that they receive less goals, but I expect 1-2 for Atletico Madrid. Where are you then, Luis? I'm very close, I'm very close. But I think that what we've been seeing about Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid is that this game is going to be very tight once again. I predicted a 2-2 in the first one. I was totally wrong, but again, I'm going to go for another 2-2 because I know that both teams can score a lot, but I think that they are vulnerable at this stage.
35:10Luis Garcia:Real Madrid has got more to lose because the gap with Barcelona is going to be bigger, but knowing that Atletico Madrid is always going to be competitive for the Bernabeu, I'm going to go for a 2-2. And as the neutral commentator, I'm not going to give a prediction. I'm allowed that, I think. Before I let you go, Mario, I've got to say, really impressed with the catwalk stuff. You're a fact. He's an expert. He's an expert. Oh, no, my God. Look at that. He's got the flow, the colors. And you and Sid Lowe. Yeah, yeah, and Sid Lowe was there with Oviedo. Well, a new experience. Not the best of my life, but I have a good time.
35:43Luis Garcia:I enjoy with a lot of next teammates or ex-football players that I knew, so it was a good and a fun moment. Look at that turn. Beautiful. Look at that. Look Sid Lowe. It's a little bit more time, more nervous. And also his son, eh? Yeah. His son was there. Have you got offers coming over the phone now then? Look how quick. We have to talk to him. Look how quick he's leaving. Fantastic. Why didn't we get in the office, Luis? I wasn't there. I was invited, but I... Yeah, I was invited. I was going to meet the guys, but it was Father's Day the other day, and I had a meeting with my family, a lot of dinner, and I couldn't go there, but I would have loved to see the guys.
36:21Luis Garcia:He was intelligent. Funnily enough, I didn't get enough. Well, I did, actually, but it was for the Help the Aged fashion show. That's all right. Nothing more than Louis Garcing said, I had a meeting with my family. Mario, that was great. Thank you very much, boys. Sidler looks a natural on the catwalk, doesn't he? He looks so tense, so nervous. You boys could have given him some tips, maybe. What? When you've walked the catwalk in the past, do you remember this? back in the day. Here is Shaka. Sporting. Oh, look. Oh, I forgot about it. Boy. I wonder what you were talking about. This was the catwalk we did a lot.
37:03Luis Garcia:Look at Steve. Oh, boy. Oh, yes. And more. More. Is it Zoolander-esque? Why are you poking your belly at? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. The old days. The old days. Just a reminder then, you can catch the strips in person, I suppose, if you like, that link, on La Liga tomorrow. Barca against Raul Bet-Cardin, Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid. 38:44Luis Garcia:Go to maintainx.com slash sports. That's maintain and the letter x dot com slash sports. Bayern look unstoppable at the moment, don't they? 4-0 against Union Berlin. Gnabry with a brace. Kane, Alise also getting on the score sheet. Bayern, nine points clear. And of course, they'll be champions once again in Germany. Harry Kane then missing the chance to get five. I'm sure there'll be stern words from Vincent Kompany after the game. Let's hear from them both.
39:19Luis Garcia:Harry, 4-0, it felt like a very dominant, ruthless display. How did it feel to you? Yeah, probably one of our better performances of the season. You know, we played two games away against them this year and have been really tough. So it's a bit of a tough game, but I think from start to finish, the way we moved the ball, the way we got on second balls, kept the rhythm of the game high and intense. and then our quality shone through towards the back end of the first half and then carried it on into the second half. So overall, just a really good win. Your personal day in front of goal, how would you describe it?
39:52Yeah, frustrating. Scored probably the hardest chance out of the lot, obviously missed one in the first half and then the one at the end. When you're a striker, you miss this type of chance, even when you win 4-0, it just leaves a little bad taste in your mouth. But it is where it is. I've said that before as a striker, sometimes you just have days that work well
40:10Luis Garcia:and days that don't, at least I was able to get one today. Now, we talked about the Harry Dinho nickname the other day, and I say this with good reason, because Serge Nabry scored two goals today. He's on 99 Bundesliga goals. Not many have got to 100 Bundesliga goals in history, only 55 players. Firstly, what do you call him? What's his nickname? Serginio. There you go. What else would it be? And just talk a bit about what he brings to the team. Yeah, he was fantastic today. I thought he'd bring a lot of energy. 1v1, he was so dangerous. And then he gets goals, he gets into the dangerous areas, he's got a great finish on him.
40:44The strike for both of them really were really hard for the keeper to save. You see it in training as well, he's one of the best finishers I've played with. You give him opportunities like he did today, he's going to score goals.
40:57Luis Garcia:Really different kind of patience that your team had to show in the first half this week compared to last week. But it was spectacular in the end in terms of the results that your team got today. How did you see the game? Yeah, I think we were stable. I feel that Union Berlin is always a team that's able to defend compact and make it really uncomfortable. I thought they defended well, the box, and therefore we were getting into the right areas, but there was a lot of good blocks and headers and clearances and a bit of chaos that we couldn't exploit. But you felt that with the game, the spaces were getting bigger and bigger, and then eventually you did feel like we can score today.
41:39The only thing that could have been a problem for us is if we lost our patience and if all of a sudden we started to do things that we weren't doing before. And we didn't do that, so the whole game we stayed stable and deserved the win.
41:51Luis Garcia:Only a select few have broken the 100 Bundesliga gold mark. Serge Nabry moved to 99 today. What can you say about, I mean, you could pick out almost anyone in the team right now. it feels like it's the right time to pick him out. How do you see working with him? I think from the first day I've worked with him, I always compare, I think my first comparison is obviously the players that I was fortunate to play with myself, maybe the likes of Leroy, Raheem Sterling, and that calibre of wingers, Riyad Mahrez. And my first observation was he is that good, he has that, that's his level as well. But I think he can float under the radar a little bit because he's not the guy who talks the most, he's quite humble.
42:42And at the same time as well, he's been injured a few times, so he's not always been available maybe. But no, I think the team knows his quality, we know his quality. He's an important player, not just for the team, but just in the squad dynamics. So always happy to see him do well and we've got to continue. He's not the only player who does well up front, but for sure we ride a little bit on his momentum as well.
43:06Luis Garcia:So here we are, three games for you tomorrow. Mines against Frankfurt, Sampauly against Freiburg, and Osberg take on Stuttgart. Those games back-to-back-to-back on ESPN+. Now it was an interesting debate, wasn't there, yesterday between Stevie, who was very much for Manchester United, having a penalty. Shaq and Nadem defended the officials in that 2-2 draw. Here's what Michael Carrick had to say. My first one is he's definitely got one of them wrong, because he's given one penalty for us for the same thing that he's not given one, there's a two-arm grab. So Mateus one he gives, the second one on Ahmad he doesn't, which I think is almost identical really.
43:44If you have two hands on someone in the box and they go over and they're in control of the ball, for me it's two penalties, but it would be interesting to see which one they acknowledge is wrong, whether the one we got or the one that we didn't get. and it's a huge moment you don't give it they go down the other end and score and then becomes all of a sudden it needs to be a bigger penalty to overturn just because they scored when actually it's a penalty and it should be a penalty if you've already given one so a bit baffling really to make sense of that.
44:15Luis Garcia:Bruno also baffled Ahmad is getting to a point where he's going to shoot and he gets pushed you can see that something puts him completely out of balance it's frustrating for the small players because they always say the small players are soft and when it's the bigger players they end up giving the foul. Interesting reaction on our YouTube page to the clip we put up, Stevie defending Manchester United. You know it's bad when a Liverpool legend is on United's side. You know it's a shocker and a half if Sir Stevie Nicoll is on Manchester United's side. Fair play to Steven Nicoll for being unbiased.
44:50Luis Garcia:other two just need glasses and to take off the blinkers for Manchester City player of course Nadam. Shaka? Can I just say there was a little bit of miscommunication yesterday. Oh what with your eyes and your brain? I thought it was a penalty but then we get to the show and all of a sudden Nadam goes well I'm on team Shaka I'm like oh well I can't leave Nadam and team Shaka and Shaka's not on team Shaka so I had to kind of go with Nadam but I thought it was a penalty. I did You went with it because I could just leave Nadim hanging out to dry there Couldn't throw him under the bus I think you most definitely I think the opinion of YouTube has swayed Your thoughts, Shaq We watched the game together Yes First look, I thought Ahmad went over easily But then once you saw the replay I was saying penalty Which I was saying to Steve Why are you watching the game?
45:43All of a sudden we get to the studio Yes When we did the show and he said it I was like, ah What? And we had him going, did he just say that?
45:53Luis Garcia:But this is why I didn't play at a professional level, I just had enough of all the officials picking on us small people. It was just too much. And I just thought, I can't, I can't take this discrepancy every time, so I'm going to give it up and go into broadcasting and I feel very mad for him. And I don't feel it's talked about enough. What? People picking on small people. Officials not giving us the chance. I thought you'd been your football career. That's it. That brings us to the end of today's show. Stay tuned. Shaka and Stevie back with you to answer all your questions.
46:29Luis Garcia:Welcome to the next edition of Extra Time. Stevie, does a manager know when players are trying to get him sacked? Yeah, I would think so. Did you ever get that smell in your dressing room? No. No. Mine weren't smart enough.
46:52I don't think managers, no, I think managers kind of like players, feel that they're in the right and they're going to figure this out and now all of a sudden they get that dreaded call.
47:02Luis Garcia:But there must be a feeling. You must like when they're addressing you and nobody's paying attention or looking to the ground. I think more times than now, managers just kind of think, well, they'll be gone. Oh, I see. it's part of the territory for all of us. We discussed this on the show, didn't we? Stevie said you should stick with Slott, give him 300 million, see what he does with it to start the season. As we say, who is more likely to get sacked before the end of the campaign, Stevie? Slott or Rosinia? Before the end of the campaign? Yeah, that's what it says, before the end of the season.
47:36Oh, Rosinia. Yep. Slott's not getting sacked before the end of the season.
47:39Luis Garcia:Stevie, Liverpool this season have been outrun in 27 of their 31 games. That's unheard of. Unheard of. Other than form, there seems to be a major physicality issue with this team. Is this down to Slott's training methods or players not giving 100 %? Well, it's funny you should say that. Last week, I was listening to somebody and they were talking about and the Slott apparently is very meticulous about the physical condition of his players. Right. So that wouldn't make any sense if what I was listening to was correct. And he has been talking... What were you listening to? Do you want to share it?
48:21I'm trying to remember whether it was the radio or something else.
48:23Luis Garcia:OK. But at the same time, he has been complaining that he's had to play the same players. So maybe that's got something to do with it as well. But no, as far as I'm aware, he's very meticulous about the physicality of his players. I'm actually saying that, by the way. Let's be honest. If there was one thing that any team in the Premier League shouldn't be guilty of is not being physically at the best. Because they've got 45 coaches to take care of it. So surely 45 of them can all get it wrong at the same time. Right. So we're OK. Stevie, please tell me why Harvey Elliott wouldn't help right now.
49:04Luis Garcia:Just another terrible slot decision. I couldn't say that. I think Javier Leic couldn't do anything other than help. It's not possible. So why did Arnestock not rate him? I think he probably decided he wasn't a first-team starter. You know, you always have to have a squad. But probably, I can't remember the... I mean, he's still on loan, right? Is it at Villa? Aye. But he hasn't played at Villa either. Let's have a look. So there's maybe something that we don't know that people that are closer to him have spotted. Keep going, I'm just typing Harvey Elliott. Yeah, well, he's not... Listen, you can't have too many guys in your squad that are young.
49:53He's played five games this season. Right. No goals, no assists.
50:00Luis Garcia:There we are. I can't say anything about what he's done at Villa. But at Liverpool, I think clearly he wasn't going to be a starter. They can't start him because there's money issues. Oh, it's getting deeper than we thought. I know. That's why. Passive aggressor on producer. Sorry, I thought this was a known thing. Right. Okay. Somebody needs a holiday. Hi. If he plays ten times, they have to give him 35 million. Oh. Well, they obviously decided very, very quickly that they didn't want him. All right. Any other tidbits? Anything else? Okay. All right. Good. Xhaka, as a goalkeeper, that's not the number one.
50:38Luis Garcia:How long before the match do you need to know you're starting? And if you aren't starting the match, how do you mentally prepare? Well, I didn't know I was going to start in that opening World Cup game, Daniel. You didn't, Xhaka, no. I found out we were out for the warm-up and then all of a sudden I got a call from Bernaka saying that I was going to start. When did you get the call? I warmed up for about ten minutes. So did somebody get injured in the warm-up? Yeah, the Southampton goalkeeper, Kelvin Jack. Right. Well, he'd been injured before in one of the warm-up games, so it was touch and go.
51:12And then he came up to warm-up, and we all started warming up. And they're kicking shots at Clem Elder. Not Clem Elder, Clem Elder. Good shots as well, Shaq. Both feet. Both feet. I was like, if I'm not starting in goal, I'm going to audition to come off the bench up front here. And then Kelvin just kind of said to the goalkeeper coach and half to him and half to me and his breath that he can't make it. And Benaka said to me, like, are you ready? I'm like, yep. Wow. And that was it. Mentally, was that any different to knowing you were going to start? No, mentally it was better for me. Right. Because, I mean, this is trying to be a debut at a World Cup.
51:53I would not have slept the night before. Wow. I really would. And who was that against? Sweden. That's where you were brilliant. Yeah, back in the match.
52:00Luis Garcia:I was brilliant throughout my career, Daniel. Well, but that was the 0-0. That was the 0-0. That's one that Zlatan wrote about. Correct. Yeah, saying how brilliant you were. Wow. But little did he know, I was brilliant throughout my career, Dan. It's just... More on Harvey Elliott.
52:21Luis Garcia:Stevie? What? Did it make any difference if you knew who you were playing, Lake Poole? No. No, not really. Well because part of your job is to be ready, particularly when you're a young player and you're trying to get on the team. It was one of the first things, I think it was Mark Lawrenson, I'm going to say it was Laurel. But obviously the coaching staff remind you as well, but you have to make sure that when you get the opportunity you're ready for it. Right. Because you might not get another one. And if you're unprofessional and don't prepare properly, then you'll screw it up. Yeah. So... It's good advice for any job.
53:02The reason you're called a professional footballer is to be professional. There you go. And prepare properly. There you are. And so I was a good professional. There you are. B of the bang. The B of the bang.
53:13Luis Garcia:Dan, now that you've adopted Stevie's haircut, what's next? Consuming large quantity of chips, socks on the beach, dance moves. I'll take your dance moves, Stevie. Aye. They're pretty impressive, aren't they? Well, I think they would go well with your particular size. Didn't you model in that thing as well? No, I was the MC. Oh, you're the MC. Oh, his best was the one in the goals when he got the picture, remember? Oh, yes, yes, yes. That was the round matriculation. Oh, yeah, how come that didn't make me cut to the end of the show? I've gone there and... Oh, boy. What was that? 15 years ago, something like that?
53:46What's a right tube?
53:49Luis Garcia:What a lovely time. That is it and we're all going to go and be told off for not knowing much about Harvey Elliott now. Well, hopefully we'll be back tomorrow to look ahead to the derby. Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid. Barcelona in action as well. Nottingham Forest against Spurs. There's a lot happening tomorrow. Oh, come on, Tannen. You both off? Yes, I am. No, I can't, man. Are you in time? No. Somebody's got to walk, you know what I mean? What a hard life. Oh, boy. Can't have everybody seen it at home, can't I? Always be prepared. Professional. Always be prepared. Professional. Professional.
54:26Ready to go.
54:31Monster Energy. Everybody knows White Monster Zero Ultra. That's the OG. It kicked off this whole Zero Sugar Energy drink thing. But Ultra is a whole lineup now. You've got Strawberry Dreams, Blue Hawaiian, Sunrise, and Vice Guava.
