Liverpool’s back line is in “disarray,” with Virgil van Dijk and Konate not defending/leading well and Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate struggling. Mo Salah is described as a “passenger.” Manager Arne Slot is criticized for team selection, especially starting Alexander Isak over sharp-form Dominic/Eberechi Eze? (referred to as “Eketiki”), and for not addressing second-ball problems. United are praised for winning every second ball and exploiting chances; Bruno Fernandes hits the post.

Notable examples

early United goal by Brian Mbwema; Liverpool equalized via Cody Gakpo; Harry Maguire scored the winner. Slot/Slotter debate includes a missed referee call on an alleged Van Dijk elbow on Alexis Mac Allister.

0:00Are all batteries the same? That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with Power Boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell.

0:34Welcome, everybody, into the ESPN FC studios for this, the latest edition of the show. Alongside Craig Burley, Steve Nichol, I'm Sebastian Salazar. Great to have you with us. We do have a lot to get to, but I think there's only one place that we can start, and that, of course, Manchester United's visit to Anfield, where they took a 2-1 win over Liverpool. Brian Mbwema opening the scoring very early to give United the lead. Liverpool equalizing in the second half with Cody Gakpo, but five minutes later, Harry Maguire. That's right, Harry Maguire, game-winning goal as Manchester United win 2-1. That is four straight losses across all competitions now for Liverpool.

1:09First time that's happened in more than a decade. What does it mean for the Premier League? Well, right now, Arsenal have opened up a three-point lead atop the table. Meanwhile, Liverpool sit fourth, four points back of first place. Our good friend and colleague, Frank LaBeouf. Frank, I'll get you your thoughts on this game in just a minute, but Stevie, we've got to start with you. I feel like there was a lot of problems for Liverpool today. Can you pick one that for you was the biggest? Pick one? Yeah, what was the biggest problem today? My goodness. I don't know that there's just one big problem.

1:43I think there are so many big problems. List them in order of importance. And the one thing, well, we sat and we watched one of the title contenders in Arsenal yesterday. And I said yesterday, you know, titles are, you start at the back. Defenses win titles. And that's why Liverpool's got no chance now of winning this title. No chance? How can you possibly win a title when your back four are in so much disarray that you can't defend against anybody? I mean, Manchester United should have been two up at halftime. Bruno Fernandes let Liverpool off the hook when he picked the post and it went wide.

2:22I mean, Conor Bradley looks half the player that he was when he bust on the scene. you know, Kanati has had a terrible start. Virgil van Dijk, to me, looks as though he's trying to do too much. He's trying to cover too much. And Kerkes looks out his depth. Now, that's the base of your team. And when that isn't functioning, it's not functioning when the opposition are getting at them, but it's not functioning with the ball either. Because when they're coming out, every man and his dog doesn't want to pass the ball to Kerkes. You've lost the left-hand side of your attack before you even start. So when you go down the right, we're looking at Mo Salah, who looks like he's forgotten how to play the game.

3:04I mean, as fantastic as he's been, absolutely, I mean, life's sensational for Liverpool. But right now, Kierkegaard and unfortunately Mo Salah right now, both of them are passengers. And you cannot win titles with passengers on your team. and not only can you not win with passengers when the other nine are not exactly hitting the heights either you see what happens you can absolutely lose to a man United side who with all due respect it was about hard work it was about defending it was about covering each other and then they took advantage of the opportunities that came their way that's what Liverpool were up against they weren't up against Real Madrid or Barcelona or anybody else they were up against a hard-working team today and they couldn't break them down and couldn't stop them going the other way.

3:59I mean, Liverpool played like a basic, average Premier League team. Yeah, the defence wasn't very good. The attack, though, to Steve's point, wasn't much better. We'll get to Man United and they sort of praised that they should get because they've come into this game in a bad way and they played as well as they could, got the results. So we'll get to them. There's so much for Liverpool to unpack here. I understand the Kierkegaard. The Mo Salah is glaring. I think it starts with leadership, and you can include the manager in that, but we'll get to him. Leadership is your star players. Your star players are Mo Salah, who's not taking the bull by the horns, and I actually think Virgil van Dijk.

4:42Virgil van Dijk, to me, is not leading at the moment. He's blaming. And Kierkegaard is having a bad time. There's no doubt about it. he's getting swallowed up by the pressure of going in with these big players in this huge football club with these big expectations. But I don't think it helps when your captain's looking at him every two minutes and blaming him or digging him out. Even at the end, the clearance that comes off Kerkhez's face, what's he supposed to do? He's tucking in behind Van Dijk and Van Dijk's turning around and he's gesturing to him. The crowd see it. And I just don't think that helps the situation.

5:20now Andy Robertson's big boots to fill because he's been a great left back for a few years but he can't really do it anymore so Stevie and I have talked about this about maybe taking him out the pressure cooker but Robertson's been struggling for club and country but then you get to Alan Slott and you talk about team selection that's four defeats in a row they were playing their biggest rivals historically at home he's once again favoured Izak over their most informed player in Eketiki. Eketiki should have played at Chelsea. He should have played today. I told you it was going to start. You did say he wasn't going to start.

5:55He should have played. Alexander Izak's a great player, but he's missed a chunky pre-season. And since Eketiki has come in, he's looked sharp as a tack. So he's not only playing a player who's not quite ready yet in Alexander Izak, he's denting the confidence of another. And we talked all week about Man United being weak in the middle of the park. and somehow shoehorning Florian Wirtz in there to expose Casemiro, and he chose not to. I think that one, to me, is more debatable. I don't really think the Eke TK one should be. So there's lots of things here that are falling on the senior players, but there's also a lot, I think, falling at the feet of the manager.

6:37Saying, your selections of these star players in the last three or four games, you could argue he's getting it wrong. You know, there are certain things in football that were around 100 years ago that still are very important today. It's not always about the tactics and all the fancy play and all the philosophies and all of that nonsense. There are basic things that you have to do to win a football game. And the one thing that stood out more than anything to me today, and I put this down more to Arnest Lott not doing anything about it than the players on the field. Manchester United, at no stage today, tried to play the ball out from the back.

7:21This was going to be, and you could see it after five minutes, this was going to be about second balls. And second balls, winning second balls had been around for 100 years. And Manchester United won every single second ball today, whether it was on the halfway line, whether it was in either of the penalty boxes. I mean, there is nothing positive you can say about this Liverpool side in terms of tactics or just getting the basics right. And in that particular occasion, to me, that's down to the manager. Because as soon as you see that the opposition are not playing it out and they're going to be kicking it long, because Van Dijk and Kanati were winning every single first header, but it was second ball that was the most important thing.

8:08And Man United played for that. and it was part of why they were so good in the first half because they played it long, they won the second ball and then they were putting people through. Slott did nothing about it. And leadership, leadership on the field, Salah, Van Dijk, you've got a World Cup winner in McAllister but nobody spotted it, nobody did anything about it and it just continued every single time. Just briefly before I go to Frank, not on any analysis of the tactics or the performance, on a technicality and it was a difficult one on a technical you asked me about it on a on a laws of the game as we sit here now the referee should have blown the whistle for the Van Dijk elbow hit in the back of McAllister's head now the out from the referee to the VR was that he didn't see it was a head knock and allowed the game to go on and look we can debate whether he saw it or not I can understand he saw Mbemmo getting up which he did picked himself up ran past Van Dijk by the way, that's not Kirchiz's fault it's not Kirchiz's fault that Mbema runs by Van Dijk and then he's looking at Kanati to come and help him but my issue with this is it's a head knock or not, now McAllister goes to the ground, we saw in the highlight, he's holding his head, I think the referee saw it, was unsure what to do, let the game go and then said in his microphone to his colleagues, he didn't see it, so that was his out, taking nothing away from United.

9:38The defender from Liverpool then wasn't good enough, but technically that should have been stopped on the spot. Frank, the boys are hammering Liverpool, especially the back line. You're a World Cup winning defender. What are you seeing from this Liverpool defence? I agree, but it's not only the back line. I mean, all the two guys, you know, said it all. I mean, it's a squad problem. It's a coach problem. It's the individual choices that Slot made today and he made mistakes and I agree, Zach shouldn't have played. He has to play and there is no debate and I don't care if they pay 130 million for the guy.

10:16He's not ready yet. He's lacking confidence. He shouldn't have played. For me, only Gakpo tried, hit the post three times. So he's the only one who survived. But really, most players, most of them are only the shadow of themselves. and they lost what makes Liverpool a special club, the spirits, the fighting spirits. We don't see that anymore. We saw kind of senators where Van Dijk is, I agree with Craig, that guy is the leader when he has the ball. Very nice, not serving everybody, but defensively he's not there anymore. He's not the captain, the best defender in the world that I used to see. He's not there.

11:03He's not commending well. Konate is doing what he can, and he's also guilty on many occasions. We see players doing stuff like, yeah, Bradley, the young Bradley, he's not the player that we saw. And we say, OK, Tran, he's going. Bradley is going to play. He's good. He's good enough. He's ready. No, he's not. What about Salah? I mean, the chance he has. I mean, that's not the world-class Salah that we used to see. He is three yards away from the goal. He shot three yards away from the goal. So that's absolutely crazy. But again, to not repeat what the guys have said, it's the spirit and maybe the physical condition, the willing of going for a fight.

11:51And as Steve said, today it was a big derby. It was stop playing football, stop playing nice football. Play a war. You know, fight for your colours. Go for it. It's why we love watching Liverpool. And we loved watching Liverpool last season. The fighting spirit. Go for it. Second ball. You know, put the pressure with the fans. It's going to get crazy. Ten minutes we had that after they scored the goal. Before that and after that, that was tiki-taka. Liverpool playing tiki-taka. Come on. you're insulting your club playing like that I think there's a lot of eyes on the manager now and I tell you why not just because it's 0-4 in terms of results think about last year when he came in he takes over Klopp's team makes a few tweaks here and there but the personnel is pretty much the squad that was there and he didn't have to make these big decisions not really you know, Darvin Nunes wasn't going to play much and, you know, it was Lewis Diaz was there.

12:58Nowhere near the squad, right? You know, Sabozlai played and McAllister played and Gravenberg played. Sometimes it was Curtis Jones. But there wasn't really that many big decisions. Trent was still there at right back. Robertson was still doing a half-decent job at left back. So the decisions were pretty simplistic. There's maybe just one here and there to freshen things up. And it was great for six or seven months. And then it did falter when he did have to go to the well. He made a big decision in the FA Cup. At Plymouth, they got knocked out. They got knocked out of the Champions League and it started to unfurl, but they'd done all the hard work early in the season.

13:33So they got the just rewards in the Premier League. This season, with the recruitment, he's now tasked with making these big decisions. So it's became a lot cloudier for him and there's a lot more questions on him now than there were last year when he basically shuffled his team. He's first 11 out, week in, week out, and they did a great job. Now it's who plays up front. Now where does Florian Verts play? Now who plays right back? Sabozlai, Bradley, Frimpong. What are you going to do with Kirchiz? What are you going to do with Salah? He's got all these questions now, and I think he's struggling.

14:06As footballers, we always like repetitiveness. Right. And as a player... Same 11, week in, week out. Well, they got Eintracht, Frankfurt, and then they got Brentford. What time you turn up for training? What time you start? What time you finish? I mean, you like things to be normal. And we've been sat here since the start of the season questioning who's playing. We don't know who's playing. We don't know who's going to play right back. You've got three right backs, and you're playing as a central midfielder at right back. And here's the problem. Is there not time to figure out what the best 11 is?

14:43You've got an incredible squad. Surely you could put together a very competitive 11. Well, you're running out. If you want him in the Premier League, you're running out. And that is one of my points. we're sitting here and we don't know what the team is. You can guarantee that most of the players don't know what the team is either. That's a horrible place to be when you've got so many players. Well, the manager. Is it not the recruitment? If you're saying that these pieces are making this team better. Are you going to let me finish? Yes. The manager has to decide what the best 11 is. The manager has to decide and then put them out and then give them an opportunity.

15:18Do you have an idea what their best 11 is? No. No. I'm not with him every day. I'm not coaching him every day. Is there something you see in the 11, for instance, that he put out today that you would switch? I'll tell you what I see. That you would change. I'll tell you what I see. I see a team that knows that at any stage, the whole thing's going to be switched around. They're going to bring a centre midfielder on. You're going to stick a centre midfielder right back. Is Isaac playing? Is Akitiki playing? Should Salah be playing? It's just question after question. And if you think everybody on the outside's asking questions, I'll guarantee you a large majority of the players are asking questions as well.

15:53Every time they step on the field, they're not quite sure what's going on. But we started it. Sorry, Craig. Go on, Frank. If I may. Yeah, go on. Sorry. I think we started the debate, in fact, to put the best 11. Imagine you're Anoslatan, you see the beginning of the season, you say, OK, Moussala's going to play, Virgil van Dijk's going to play, Konate's going to play, McAllister's going to play, Gravenberg's going to play, and Conor Bradley and Kierke is going to play. And you see those guys who have been absolutely fantastic being, again, the shadow of themselves. So suddenly you say, well, you know, I should change maybe to try to find somebody else, except maybe Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Konate.

16:36But I think he tries to find solutions. I think he's been, in a good way, I would say, betrayed by the non-quality of his players that they showed last season, I think he's lost. The guy is lost because nobody is at his own level. That's the main concern that Sot has right now with the players that he was confident about before. What would worry me as a player in the dressing room is that we did the community shield. OK, it was the curtain reserve to the Premier League against Palace. It's not the be-all and end-all, but it's a little test before the start of the season. and we saw, obviously, we talked about the problems in the back line then, and we said, OK, he's got to figure that out.

17:18That was August, particularly the left-hand side, Van Dijk and Kerkers. It was staring at us at Wembley that day, and it's a problem. But when Eke Tiki came in for the football, we all went, I'll tell you what, that's lively. That's lively. Am I hearing that that's the change you'd make? That's the first thing you'd do to face this team? Well, I think that's a glaring one. Because you guys have danced around it, not just in this show, but for weeks now, the Mo Salah issue and what to do there. Nobody's danced around anything. Well, we've had the conversation of, is it time to have the conversation about removing it from the lineup?

17:51It's time now, yeah. It's time now. It's absolutely time now. But I want to go, just before Mo Salah, I want to go back to that just briefly.

18:01Is we looking at a price tag here? Because Ekotiki's been their biggest threat. It was Kodi Gakpo today, but Ekotiki has been scoring goals, he's been linking up the play and Isaac had a tumultuous summer. His head had to have been all over the place. Maybe some of it was his fault, maybe some of it wasn't but you can't deny it. He was training with Real Sociedad, he wasn't training with Newcastle, he certainly wasn't training with Liverpool. It was a prolonged transfer. It takes a bit of time to get over that, get in, get your fitness and get your sharpness but you've got a guy who's playing great.

18:35He's another big signing, not as big a signing but he's come in from Germany, he's playing great, and you leave him out. Now Florian Vert's week and say, right, he hasn't done it, he hasn't done this, he hasn't done that, so maybe he doesn't want it right. We could debate that. I really don't think, I think the Eketiki emission is a worry for me, that you're shoehorning somebody in here, because I've got to get them in the team, I've got to get them in the team, when that's detrimental to a result. Because you need, when you're struggling at one end, goes without saying, you need it in buckets at the other end.

19:09And Liverpool are struggling at this end. And I just don't get the decision at the moment to go with Izak over Eketiki. As a coach, you've got a responsibility to the fans and to the players and to the team to put on the field the best team to win a certain game. And when you start Izak over Eketiki, you're not doing it for the right reasons. And the players would know that? Absolutely. Absolutely, absolutely. Nobody will know more than Eka Tiki, but if I'm in that team and I'm looking around going, hold on a second, we've got a gang here. And by the way, who made a difference when they came on?

19:46Straight off the bat, Eka Tiki. Straight off the bat. So if I'm a player and I'm going, well, hold on a second, it kind of smells like it doesn't matter what I do here, this guy's going to play. That's not good for the dressing room either. But as I said, the most important thing about it is you can't be shoehorning people in just to either try and keep people happy or because they paid a lot of money for them. And again, if you're Fring Pong, you're brought in as a fullback. But yet you're going to upset your middle of the park and you're going to stick Sobislai at right back again because he doesn't deserve to be brought off.

20:23So you stick him at right back. Those decisions, that's not what championship winning teams do and championship managers don't. he's gonna he's gonna lose the bench if he carries on like that he's gonna lose the bench because players who came on today frim pong kirsty johns uh even kiesa kiesa i don't recognize kiesa from last season he was anonymous and today he came on worked hard last time he scored the goal the winning goal i mean it works those people they work hard and they see players being picked by the coach because of their price tag, because of their fame, because of their pass, but not because of their right now qualities.

21:05And that's something that you can be blamed of. And on top of it, you can lose the players who are on top right now, especially you go in Kittike. All right, so Liverpool then two to one losers against Manchester United at home. Let's hear from both managers, Arna Slott and Ruben Amorim. Do we lose confidence? I cannot see it yet because every single game we've lost we were able to create in the second half an unbelievable amount of chances. So if you look back at all the free games we've lost in the Premier League, I don't think if you just put all the highlights behind each other you would say it's hardly possible that they lose this game.

21:47So we can keep producing what we are doing and do a few things a little bit better then there's every reason to expect that we start to win football games again. But I cannot promise you that Wednesday evening we are again able to create 8, 9 or 10 open chances. I hope so. And with the players we have, then it will lead in the end to us scoring more goals. We are the same team that we were 90 minutes ago. The way people see the team is different. But we are the same team. So we have a lot to do. We had some luck in the few moments. We had an amazing spirit. we need to take all of that to the next game so the goal is always the same Anthony Slaughter we're creating lots of chances unbelievable amount of I don't look at the defensive aspect of the game but we're creating lots of chances

22:40should he be ringing the alarm bells more in the press there or is that what you'd expect a manager to say in this situation yeah I think to be honest he's let me put it a different way I hope that's not what he's saying in the dressing room what he's saying is trying to be positive trying to go for what could have been what maybe should have been in his eyes but the most important thing is he's not saying that in the dressing room because if I'm in that dressing room and he's saying that I'm thinking hold on a second because they know they are struggling you know you can talk about you can talk about so-called opportunities, but the most important thing is the big picture.

23:22And the big picture is Liverpool today, if I'm wrong, tell me, I don't think they strung four passes together in any one move, ever. And I don't think they've done that all season. So you can talk about little half-chances or anything, but in terms of the way they play the game, they are miles off it. Should we give Man Utd some... I think so. Yeah, I think so. Yeah. You know what? I should lead into this and say, if there's any stupid questions about Man United on extra time, I will implode. Let's save your anger towards extra time. I'm serious. If somebody's picking out questions, it says, is that going to win the title now?

23:57Are Man United back? I will pick this table and throw it. That's a big result. I agree, Craig. Frank, why are you downplaying this? It's a huge problem. From a United perspective. No. You know what? I don't agree with Zahmarim, what he said in a press conference, and saying that they are the same team that 19 minutes ago. That's not at all. I mean, the triangle, Cunha, Mbemo, and Ahmad Diallo, I didn't see it since the beginning of the season. Those three, they made a difference today. Of course, Kerkes and Virgil van Dijk on the left side, they weren't at the top. But those three, and I don't know why Ahmad Diallo doesn't play from the beginning, because that guy made a difference last season.

24:38And for me, he's a game changer. And on top of it, you have Bruno Fernandes, who came a little bit more in the middle and did what he had to do. They weren't fantastic. They were very professional, very hard on the man. And they did what they had to do against, let's say, not so good Liverpool. But I want to remember the triangle. Embermo,

25:05Cunha, Ahmad, because I think Cunha was a little bit Ahmad Diallo, but for me that was the difference. The goal came from them, Embermo and Ahmad. The chances they came from Cunha and Ahmad. Cunha had a hell of a game. It was more in the shadow from the others, but he was working hard and a great three guys there playing very well. I mean, they kept it very simple, didn't they? I mean, it was simplicity is what it was. You know, when we don't have it, get behind the ball. And then when we do have it, let's try and get at Liverpool and take our opportunities. But what we're not going to do is have Liverpool come and squeeze the life out of us and we're going to cough the ball up in our own penalty box.

25:53And that's it. After that, it was about being organised and the desire to defend. Can they replicate it? Like, obviously, away against Liverpool at Anfield, that's how the game's going to go. The problem is, that's the problem, because it's Man United. Man United at Old Trafford, are they going to sit in against Brentford? I mean, if that's your only way to win... Well, so Jim Ratcliffe's wiping his brow because he made a stupid statement about three years. Yeah, three years, right? But they've gone to Liverpool. Listen, they've gone to Liverpool. OK, they beat Sunderland at home. First time under Emery, back-to-back Premier League wins.

26:28That tells you the situation they were in. They've played as well as they could in the current climate, away from home, at a Liverpool side that are struggling a little bit. I'll give them their due. They defended well for the most part, got lucky. OK, you've got to ride your luck. Ball comes off the post a couple of times, Keita makes a couple of good saves. But Maguire and Delecht in particular were strong. I thought, you know, Amidjala was a decision that surprised some because that's an attacking decision on the wing-back area. But he went with them. I think because Liverpool have been struggling in that area, down the left-hand side, I think the omission of Cesco was an interesting one because he scored two in the last two games, Brentford and Sunderland.

27:10So you could argue he's just trying to find his feet. But he goes with Cunha because Cesco's going to post up against Van Dijk and Kanaty. He's going to stand there and those two are going to have a bun fight with him. Whereas Cunha, he's going to start there, where he ain't going to finish here. He's going to try and drag those players into different positions. And if you drag Kanati and Van Dijk out of there, there's little pockets for Mbemo or Mount or somebody else to get into. So I thought that was quite... And I agree with Frank. I thought Cunha's all-round performance today, just holding the ball up when he had to, particularly at the end, taking the pressure off, you know, attracting fouls on him.

27:46I just thought, you know, we saw a little... It wasn't like... It wasn't outstanding stuff, but it was just little things in the game where you thought, That was quality play from him. So I thought, you know, in that sense, Ruben Amarim got it right. You've got to give him a lot of credit for that. It was a huge win for him, a huge win for this team. The question is, it was your question, do they take this forward with any sort of consistency going forward? That is the big question we're looking at with this team. Frank, when it comes to Ruben Amarim, I feel like there's been a lot of doubts whether he's frankly the guy for Manchester United.

28:20Does today, this result, give you some evidence that he may well be the guy?

28:29As Craig mentioned, it can be a beginning. But now we have a question mark. You know, when he plays Atom and he has to lead the game and dominate the game, how is he going to do and how is he going to work with the guys? And will he give the best 11 or will he go somewhere else with some other players? I don't know. I don't know because we don't know who is Amorim. We don't know. We are unbalanced with him because of some comments that he made and everything. That was a good performance. That was a very good quality performance. But we are talking about consistency in football. That's the principles that we want to see.

29:07Consistency. Some players were at the top today. Delir, even Dalot, they worked very hard. They were good. And they did what they had to do. But you have to wait and see because it's Manchester United. They can do that one time and disappear three days after. So let's see how it works. I'm sure we probably sat here under Ten Hag. You might remember. And Dan Thomas or whoever it was sat there probably said, is this the turning point? And it was like, well. I think the biggest positive, right, is that there is no question that, regardless of how good you think this squad of players is, the one thing they did today was play for each other.

29:49And certainly as a coach, if you can get a bunch of players to cover each other, run for each other, play for each other, then you've got a chance. At the end of the day, does Manchester United have a good enough squad to go and dominate teams and outplay them? The question is no. And I don't think that's down to the manager. All the manager can do is to keep his team together and keep them fighting as a unit. And then you go from there. And where that goes right now, I mean, nobody knows. It's too early to say. Manchester United, 2-1 winners at Anfield as they defeat Liverpool. So your team just got knocked out of the FIFA World Cup.

31:45Real Madrid needed every minute of this match to pull out the 1-0 victory over Getafe, despite the fact that the home side was reduced to nine men in the 84th minute. They nearly got an equalizer in stoppage time, but it was Kylian Mbappe's goal, his 10th in nine league games this season. That was the difference, ultimately, for Real Madrid as they picked up all three points. What does it mean at the top? The Spanish First Division. Well, Real Madrid now first place. They've jumped ahead of Barcelona with 24 points through their first nine games of the season. They've got a two-point cushion over Barcelona with a week to go until El Clásico.

32:23All right, for more on this one, let's welcome in a former Barcelona player, a good friend and colleague, Luis Garcia. It was pretty clear the guys thought that was a straight red on Neom. Luis, you agree? Yeah, I actually agree. At the end, it's all about interpretation. How do you see the game, where the ball is, and the direction of the ball? I think the guys were totally right. And Nio just arrived into the game. I think Nio didn't approach the game the well that you have to be. It's very intense. You are fighting to get a point of this game. You are very close to it, so you have to be very focused.

32:53And I think he lost control. Nio wanted to make the runoff of Benicio Jr. because you are in the half of the pitch. So the only thing that you have to do is to run back, track by Benicio Jr. He's far away from your goal, so you have enough time to challenge that. and he decided just to make the break right there. And of course, you are not even looking at the ball. You are not interested in what is happening. You are just focused on stopping Vinicius Jr. And in the end, Vinicius Jr. changed the direction. You hit on him. So I think it's all about interpretation. I think the interpretation of the referee is totally right.

33:25So it was a red card and changed the whole game because from now on, you are not focused on the game. You concede that first goal, so it's game over. Getafe hasn't even had a shot on target. So even Real Madrid hasn't been the best game today. I think they will deserve the game, the three points, because at least they tried during the 90 minutes. God, it was ugly, wasn't it? But those red cards did change the game. I mean, before that, there's not a lot separating the teams. And this was a huge game for Real Madrid. Like, they had to have it this week. Yeah, yeah. And this is what they had to expect.

33:58We talked about it. This is the way Getafe, this is the way they operate. This is how Bordelassa's teams go about it. Like, this is, I'm thinking back, I mentioned the pre-game season before last, Barcelona went there and it was bordering on us all. I mean, Robbo talked about it, Stuart Robson talked about it in the commentary. It was off-the-ball stuff. A bit like we saw there with the challenge on Vinicius Junior. But it was a lot of off-the-ball stuff on Lewandowski that day and getting away with it. That's kind of how they operate. So as long as you're prepared for that going in, you know what's going to happen, then you should be OK.

34:32In terms of the performance from Real Madrid, even potentially losing points at the end there against nine men, I don't think it does a lot for next week for Xabi Alonso to go, right, this is my 11 I'm putting out against Barcelona. It's crystal clear. Are you saying that because it was Hitafe or because nobody did enough to kind of earn that spot on the weekend? Well, you know, Bellingham's chasing his fitness, so he got plenty of game time. Does he chuck him back in to the classical because he thinks he's fit enough because he made a mistake in the Madrid derby by playing him when he'd only 20 minutes of football.

35:06Arda Goulet, who's played most of the games, if not all the games this year, certainly started him, comes on, creates a chance. He has been one of their chief creators. Maston Tuano's been, you know, he's been lively. He got taken off today, he didn't have a great game today, but he's been lively. So, you know, the only one, I mean, pretty much Mbappé. Mbappé's playing, right? Yeah. But, you know, David Alaba goes off again. He said these horrendous injury wars, we don't know at this moment in time. The center of their back line is really beat up right now, if you're around Madrid. No Rudiger.

35:36It is. No Dean Hoisin. Harvahal's had this suspension. And Trent Alexander-Arnold, he's been, I think, injured. So they have these issues at the back. So it's not simplistic going into next week. I think it's crystal clear Rodrigo won't play. Vinicius Jr. will. But in terms of patching up the middle of the park and the back four, I think there's a lot of questions. Adeguilera has given him something to think about. You know, coming on again, making a great pass for the goal. I mean, he's the difference. Him and Mbappé are the difference in the three points today. Against a Barcelona side next week who you know are going to play a high line.

36:15So you need somebody with that type of quality to pick a pass for the pace of Mbappé. You wouldn't start Jude in the Classical? I would start Jude. I think I would start Gouilera as well. I mean, Gouler was... I don't know that you... I mean, how many midfielders are you going to have? I think Gouler's an easy option to leave out. I think Gouler was the fall guy in the Madrid derby. He gave a penalty away, which was unfortunate with a high boot, but it can happen. That's not taken away from his performance, where he scored a great goal and created the goal for Mbappe with a passing. But he was the one that was subbed on the hour mark, I believe.

36:49Not Bellingham, not any of them. It was Gouler that was taken off, and you can have argued he was their biggest and best playmaker that day. So I think in some sense, if I was out of the Goula, I'd be a little worried that I'm the easier guy when it comes to a big decision. Why do you say easier? Like from the manager's perspective, you're saying? Just because he's a smaller name. A whole lot, yeah. Who am I going to leave out? But it's pretty clear that it means my goal is going to be more and more impactful player right now. He is. Exactly. So is he going to try and win the game or is he going to make sure he doesn't lose it?

37:20If he's going to try and win the game, then you've got to play Goula. If you're making sure you don't lose it, then you go with strength. instead of just that acuteness and that ability to make a pass. Luis, we talked about it in the pre-match show. This was a big start for Jude Bellingham. What did you make of his performance? Well, overall, it's just minutes for him. It wasn't an easy game. Overall of the game, I think that Real Madrid wasn't in his best. He was trying to find a way of creating. He was trying to find a way of these new ideas of Xavi Alonso. and they were all frustrated by a very well-organized etapa.

37:58They have no intention of giving anything to you to try and get it. So it's all about getting the rhythm of the competition. Let's not forget, it's been quite a long time without playing and all these minutes are going to help him to when the important moments arrive. Now we are far away from the real decisions that Xavi will have to do because all competitions are right open. La Liga is still open. Champions League is still open. so match will be very important. So you need to have the best players in the best form and sharp and rested when the important games arrive. And right now, Juve Bellingham needs to get those minutes, needs to get the rhythm of the competition.

38:40And Getafe is another game that you can use them. You know that at the end, you're going to manage to get the result. It was quite late. It was because of some different circumstances. But in the end, they managed to get the three points. And for Jude Bellingham, it was fantastic to have those minutes because midweek, you are a very important game and probably you need these kind of players to show up. And Jude is one of those that in the big games, he kind of likes to show off, likes to be important. And he's going to be really, really a key player for Real Madrid. I would imagine the team selection in midweek in the Champions League isn't going to reflect the team selection come next Sunday.

39:18I think he's going to have to play certainly a hybrid team. I don't think the 11 that starts in midweek is going to start at the weekend. So he's going to have to. Do you think what we saw today is then a good indicator of what we'll see next weekend? No, I think. You're saying you're going to rotate midweek. I think it's maybe a better indicator of what we'll see in midweek. I think potentially, you know, Rorigo might play again because I don't think he'll play in the Classico. I think anybody who if there's three or four players that Alonso's thinking about not starting in the Classical and they're squad players I think he may play them against Juventus I think the Champions League in its new format gives you a little bit more leeway in that sense that he can do that particularly with such a big game at the weekend but both managers going into this Classical and I'm sort of pitching ahead away from this weekend but it is such a big game and both of them have got food for thought I mean, if you watched Barcelona yesterday, particularly in the first half, he is going to scratch his head, Hansi Fleck, and he won't be on the touchline, it doesn't seem.

40:20He's going to be scratching his head thinking, I need to put a back four together that can A, play an offside trap, and B, do it at the right time. Because they left so much space for a Girona side. The second bottom of the league should have been four up at halftime. Can you imagine doing that against this current Kylian Mbappe, this current Real Madrid side? all right Mbappe ran offside 100 times in the last classical or the first classical of last year that ain't going to happen this year he's a different player he's he's the man now he's brimming with confidence he's scoring goals he's timing his runs and when you saw that Barcelona line yesterday again just malfunctioning time after time after time then Hansi Fleck has that to solve so both I think it's both managers have got some intriguing decisions to make ahead of next weekend's clash.

41:08Luis, if you think about this weekend, just this weekend, we saw both teams, Real Madrid and Barcelona, win but kind of struggle to get those three points. Who do you think right now arrives to the Clasico in a better moment? None of them. I mean, if you see the way that they arrive, none of them arrive in a moment that you will say, yeah, they are going to win this game. They are really favorite. I think the Craig just talked very well about that Barcelona vulnerability at the back, how they are exposed, how they can be really, really, really defeated by a player who understands that high line and can get into the right time, into those spaces.

41:52And Kylian Mbappe is doing a great job and he's got a totally different finish than what we saw yesterday on Girona players or what we saw no longer ago. or we saw against Sevilla that they arrive and they concede four goals. And if we go to the other side, we saw a Real Madrid today that is really not convincing at all. I mean, they struggle so much to create chances today. They have so much problems to build up just with a team that is well-organized, not much pressure, no intention to going forward. And yes, only with one chance, two chances that you create in the whole game. And of course, because Kylian Mbappe is in a fantastic form.

42:30So none of them have favorites. And again, we've been talking a lot and every single year is the same. Classicos are totally different. There is a midweek game that we have to count about it because depending on the players who are going to be involved, are not going to be probably part of the weekend's game. And that's also something to get a count with. But I think that El Clasico is always a different game. And it doesn't matter how you arrive. It's about what you can deliver in that game. And in the same way that I can see a Barcelona strong and scoring three goals, I can see a Barcelona being destroyed by that high line and a good performance from Vinicius Junior and Mbappé.

43:07I get what Luis is saying. While Luis is saying Real Madrid have struggled against teams that are well-organised, Barcelona are not. It's the one thing they are not at the moment. They are not well-organised. They are dishevelled. Yeah, I mean, they can still play some great stuff going forward. Don't get me wrong. It's a mess at the back. It's a mess. Not only do we see it, but they see it as well. You know, Chesney yesterday after the game was the first thing he said. You know, we can't hold a line when nobody's closing the ball. That's not a little foible you tweak with. That's a basic principle of the game, of defending.

43:46And so when you're getting such a major thing wrong so often, you can't get away with it against Mbappe. All right, so Real Madrid get the win, 1-0 against Getafe. That puts them first place in La Liga. Usually when Luis Garcia joins the show, guys, you know he's ready for bed. He could be anywhere in the world. Well, he is ready for bed. I think he's in Hong Kong right now. And we got some pictures here, Luis. Are you balling again? What is it? We kind of played a match yesterday against some of the Manchester United. They've been former Manchester United players and former Liverpool players.

44:23we were involved in one of those kind of games. And, well, it's all about catching up with some former players, enjoy the game once again. And, yeah, we had a good time, but I'm in Chengdu already. So I moved the city, I'm still in China. But on Tuesday, we got a very important game, my team, the one that I'm working on, JDD in Champions League. So we'll try to do our best. Lewis, there's a word in the English dictionary, and I know you speak, although you're Spanish, you speak very good English. There's a word, it's got two letters in it, and it's no. You're allowed to say no now and again. Stay at home.

45:02OK, I'll try next time. You can't say no, Stevie, can he? Well, if he's not listening to the wave, he's not listening to you. Luis wearing the number 10. Obviously. No surprise there. All right, Luis, great to be with you. Thanks for joining us for our La Liga coverage here. Of course, it all comes to a boil on Sunday. Real Madrid against Barcelona, El Clásico. Wasn't the most exciting in camp. He's going to score from Ale Moreno. Kind of range. Freaking. Moreno couldn't reach the goal for there. It's way too far out for him.

47:04Inside the penalty spot. Give our guy some love. Big deflection as well. 37th minute. Wow. Morgan Rogers from outside the box, 1-1. It is a great strike, but if you watch Vicario here, he's so far over. And he's blinded that ball. So his starting position is horrible. It was a great finish. This is a great ball from Matty Cash. Hollywood, wasn't it? Late in the second half, Emiliano Buendia. 2-1. Vicario can't see anything either. They thought Rogers may have been interfering, but actually he was onside. So it did not matter regardless. Villa then, 2-1 winners over Spurs. And a big missed opportunity there for Tottenham.

47:50They've been up to second with a victory instead. They'll have to settle right now for six. Villa in the 11th, 12th points from their first eight matches. Frank, you had an eye on this one. What went wrong for Spurs? Well, I think they didn't try enough. They didn't pace the game enough. and they were having the ball most of the time, but they didn't create enough. I mean, Aston Villa didn't as well, but they were a little bit luckier. They shot twice and they scored two goals and what a second goal. I mean, the pass from Cash to Dean, the control from Dean and the finishing from Bondia, everything was a beauty.

48:31But I think he's missing a little bit of something from a little bit more character for Spurs, a little bit more finesse, something that you can find with somebody being on top of everybody else. And you don't find that. They have a good quality team, but something is missing. And it was lacking today. Well, Xavi Simmonds... That's your answer. Odebert. Kudos, even Kudos, who's a good player. Just flattering to deceive. You know, just trying too much. and I think they're struggling to find their identity from what they were, which was a shambles, which they were in the end, to what Thomas Frank's trying to be, which was the organisation of Brentford with a fast-paced counter-attack.

49:21I think they're somewhere in between. There's no Madison who's injured, there's no Kulisevsky, particularly Kulisevsky. They've lost Hung Minson, who was faltering at the end, but was a big player for them for many years. Brennan Johnson's been out of form. who was popping up with the odd goal or two last year. Solanke's out. Richarlison came off the bench. So they're lacking... They're pretty solid in the midfield with Paulinho and Bentoncourt. Romero had to go off in the warm-up, so Dancel came in. Didn't really affect him that much. But the front lines are behind the striker, those wider players and the 10-player.

50:01It's lots of touches, He's lots of little dinky douche stuff, but not a lot of end product. Not a lot in the final third. Xavi Simons, I thought was a gamble paying all that money for him. And today, we kind of saw... Unfortunately, the amount of times I've seen him, what he did on this field today is kind of what he does most of the time. Gets it in certain areas, but doesn't have that final ball. Kudos is that close to it. Tell. I don't think Tell's good enough to play center forward for Spurs in the Premier League. So yeah, they are solid until you get to the front. And then you're kind of asking questions of where's the goals coming.

50:45Spurs then fall 2-1 at home against Aston Villa. Let's get you caught up on some... Oh, before we get to Major League Soccer. Get caught up and done. Yes, we got extra time coming up with Craig, Stevie and Frank taking your questions off of social media. Should be a great time. Let's go back to Friday real quick. PSG taking on Frank's club, Strasbourg. This is a great game. Six minutes in. There's a right do, eh? To Bradley Barcola from point-blank range. He makes it 1-0 PSG. Good little combination play between the two of them. And a camp punish from Barcola. How about the fighting Frank Labus?

51:2529th minute. Cross is going to come in here from the right side. Joaquin Panicelli heads it in.

51:36A big Duncan Ferguson tight head around. Big man getting up and leveling 41st minute. Neway losing the ball. We get flicked at Diego Moreira and Strasburg up 2-1. Good miss hit that. I think the miss hit does the goalie.

51:56Strasburg up to one into the second half long ball going to get in here for. Moreira. Puts it across the panicelli is second of the day 3-1. If we take in a. Half volley. Post time.

52:1656 minute here. PSG trying to get right back into the match. Long ball for Due. Strasburg goalie. Yeah, that's a penalty. I do believe he was playing for this. Just leave your feet. There you go. On his way down as well. Due drawing the penalty there. Big moment for PSG as they were down 3-1. Gonzalo Ramos stepping up to the spot. He converts. 3-2.

52:46PSG not done. 79th minute. Mayulu played through. First you don't succeed. Keep hammering home 3-3. It does well. It doesn't give up on it. A lot of injuries haven't they PSG particularly to some of the key players. Yeah, quite a rotated spot to be fair for PSG. who you saw there all on the bench for this PSG team. But it is their second consecutive draw in domestic play. And as a result, they're actually second in the table right now, looking down at Frank Strasburg, who trailed PSG by just a single point, and looking up at Marseille, who with 18 points through the first eight matches of the season, are in first place right now in Ligue 1.

53:34Of course, Frank's still with us. How worried should we be about these back-to-back draws for PSG in France? People are not very worried, as Craig mentioned, you know, and you two. There was a big rotation inside the Paris Saint-Germain team. No Hakimi, no Nunu Mendes, and we know how crucial those two players are for the team. No Neves, no Vitinha, no of course Dembele. Gvalicelli came on and he changed the pace of the game as well. It was nice to see Doué playing against his brother, his older brother, playing for Strasbourg. But yeah, we can see that they are over the others. But it's nice to see a competition.

54:22Strasbourg did very well and Panicelli was a real new face for me. and with a bright future because the guy worked so hard for the team defensively and never giving up and on top of his scoring the goal, making him the top scorer of the Ligue 1 with nine goals, I think, this season. So it was a great game to watch. It was entertaining. But when Paris Saint-Germain and Luis Enrique woke up and said, OK, now we have to put back Nuno Mendes, Varchella and some others, it became more difficult for Strasbourg to cup and from 2-1 they came back to 3-3. So everybody's pleased to see a competition. Everybody's pleased to see that Paris Saint-Germain is still Paris Saint-Germain and when some other players, they're going to be invincible in League One.

55:15It's not quite a B team, but it's not far off it. And the quality you're leaving on the bench, my goodness. It's not far off it. You look at the back four, Frank's talked about, But you look at the midfield, there was no Vettinha, no Neves, no Fabian Ruiz. That's heart and soul, right? That's their engine room. They were the best midfield in the second half of last season. And I forgot Marquinhos at the back, sorry. Marquinhos didn't play at the back. Obviously, Desiree Dewey is back from injury. He played. You could consider him a starter. But apart from that, you might be looking at one, maybe two players that would get into their starting XI.

55:50So they've got a deep squad now. But, yeah, they've had some injuries. but if you looked at that side, that's not a reflection of where PSG are. PSG right now sits second in Ligo. What about Serie A? We've had some movement atop the table in Italy as well. Juventus lost to Como. How about that? So that drops them out of the top four. And AC Milan, with a big win over Fiorentina, now has them in first place with 16 points through their first seven. We watched that game, didn't we? Your mate didn't play, Captain America. Pulisic, yeah, he was in the stands. And Santi Jimenez, though, did get in late, the Mexican international.

56:26He came on? He came on. I should have had a goal. Thanks for that. There you go. I'm sure they'll be talking cereal on the Gab and Jewel show. 58:15All right, no picking on Don. Oh, I'll be light picking on. Don't go far. Extra time. Right around the corner.

58:31Hey there, everybody. Welcome into the studios for today's edition of Extra Time. It's a bit half-hearted, isn't it? Pete's talking in my ear. He's paddling on about Frank or something. Oh, yeah, fair enough. The Jets have probably lost again. Oh, that's what it is. Okay, yep. Zero and seven. Big Jets fan. 0-7. All right, why don't we get a look at our back? I'm told we've got a picture here. Something we all want to see. This is Stevie's breakfast. No, oh my God. By the way, it got spoiled by Liverpool against Man United. Did you get it down before the game started? I just about made it before kickoff.

59:09Can you walk us through that menu? I'm not super familiar with those items. You've got Danish bacon there on the right bottom. A couple of fried eggs. nice and soft so that when you bust the head, all the juice comes out and I can dip the toast. Oh, wow. You're a pro. Oh, what? So I get the toast, right? Get some tomato sauce. What do you... A tomato sauce. OK. Yeah. Yeah, you can see the bottle. It's on the right-hand side. Just above the fork. What's in the tub? That's beans, baked beans. Why can't... Why don't you put the baked beans on the plate? Well, because it makes a bit of a mess. A bit of a mess?

59:39Isn't that a mess? That's a mess. On the left-hand side. What's that? Well, it's the fried potatoes. Got it. So, yeah, it's fantastic. Sausage. Look at the sausage. Nothing sweet. My TV, nothing sweet. And a cup of tea to drown it down. Why are you taking pictures of the aforementioned breakfast? Well, because I was sending it to Dan to cheer him up in hospital. And then... He's just had a life-saving operation. Yeah, but I didn't... So I sent him that, right? He's not the cat eating or much. I didn't realise, though. So I called him. I said, hey, how you doing? He went, he goes, oh, thanks for that picture.

1:00:13I goes, oh, I thought you enjoyed it. He goes, yeah, I'm not allowed to eat anything yet. I was like, oh, God, I didn't know. He's not allowed to eat anything. He's not allowed to eat anything. I was like, oh, I'm sorry, Dad. And even when he is allowed to eat anything, he's not allowed to eat that. Dan couldn't eat that. No? No, he'd have to at least half it in two. That'd be about a week's worth of food for me. That was about five minutes. All right, let's get to the questions here. First one from Amir. Man, it's obvious you and Craig don't get along. Who's that for? Is that for me or Stevie or Frank?

1:00:47Everybody. Everybody? Anybody. Anybody. Most people. Cooperative today. Who's this for? Who's this for? What is you? Who's you? Who's you? Who's you? Well, I mean, as a self-centered person here, I always just kind of think you is me, but I guess you could be all of us. Well, we need Amir to get back in touch and let us know. Why doesn't Amir send in? Do we have any, do we have like a tense, tete-a-tete? No, but why doesn't he send in a semi? You didn't want Manchester United questions. No, no. But why doesn't he send one in that's obvious? Right, right. Okay, moving on. What was Steve's... Hold on.

1:01:21And if it is you, if it is to you, I don't know why he says that. Because I give every presenter a hard time. Yeah. And you guys don't see behind the scenes? And it doesn't matter if it's a female presenter or a male presenter. It's a presenter. Maybe you bully equally. Maybe you... No, I don't bully. I just question. Maybe you represent the world. Craig, maybe you represent the world. Oh, now we're getting deep. Now we're getting deep. All right, Stevie, what was your blood pressure? You know the problem is with something about yours? Too many woke ones. Sorry? Too many what? Too many woke ones.

1:01:58Too many get upset. Oh. What do you want to see? Some boring freaking show where everybody just sits here and nods at each other. Yeah, I like to have a little text. You're completely and utter muppet. Yeah. There it is, Craig. Get it out. Oh, it is. What do you want? You want to see a vanilla? You want a vanilla show? I'll give you a vanilla show. If I leave this show, Greg, we love you like that. If you argue with somebody, you're bullying them. Get them, mate. Oh, God, they need therapy. Oh, shut up. We're all friends here. Stevie, your blood pressure during the game, please. I was going to get that off my chest.

1:02:34I was going bonkers. My language was terrible. I actually locked myself in the bedroom. Really? Totally alone, not even out of the road. It's a shame you got out. Out the road. That's a good one. I can assure you. He locked himself in the bed. Was this outfit picked after the game, I'm assuming? It's the only one he's got. Nah, come on. He's got some lime green ties. This is definitely the auditioning for The Sopranos. Yeah. I wouldn't have a problem with that. Chuck asks, how bad was the language from Stevie? After Maguire scored, did Greg think about going home after that? So, you were still at home.

1:03:09I wasn't here. They weren't together. I was at home. No, it was horrible. I was really angry. And I actually did a digital with McDonald's straight afterwards. Oof. I was biting my tongue. Are you like a swearer, or do you like throw things at all? Like physically, are you like a pounder? I shout. You're more shrewd. You're a shouter. Okay. Got it. I get angry. And us, do you guys agree with Bruno that the pressure group and booing, excuse me, from the home fans directed toward Liverpool players helped Manchester United? What do you think about that, Frank? Well, I thought, you know, that was part of the game to be booed by the by the fans from the the the other team.

1:03:57And but, you know, it brings you the the willingness of making sure they're going to shut up at some point. So scoring a goal, it's very nice as well, you know, to make sure that they don't talk anymore. But it's part of the game. And it's always good. And I never complain about anything. It's part of our game. It's part of our job. I might be wrong, but I think the question is actually referencing Liverpool fans getting on Liverpool and helping Manchester United. I don't know. It was definitely whistling in that first half. The Liverpool fans were not burning the players. but there were definitely groans of frustration.

1:04:37There was whistles for sure. Yeah, but there's a difference between booing. There was a universal frustration at times when players would turn back the way. Do players sense that from the crowd? Like, does what Bruno's saying make sense then? Well, yeah, of course you do. Absolutely. Yes. Well, you ask Kerry Kez whether he heard it or not because the more he got the ball, the more he went backwards. Yeah. I mean he was I think the best example when he got the ball you could actually like hear almost like a clattering of like Because you knew it was going to happen you're waiting for it and then he does it No, he wasn't the only one, but he just did it more than anybody else And when you know the reason you do that is because you're scared to make a mistake That's why you do it.

1:05:23That's why he goes back It's extremely safe and you don't want to make a mistake. Come on Frank. You know what? Maybe maybe he doesn't help the away team, but for sure, it doesn't help the home player team. That's for sure. I was the captain of Marseille and we played at home and when we had a bad result and a bad game, all the fans, 50 ,000, they were booing the players. It doesn't help and it won't change the result. It's burying the players who don't know where to go. They don't know what to do. So if you're a fan, You have to understand that what you're doing is not serving your cause. It's absolutely stupid.

1:06:04And you are there. You're a supporter. So your fans are just support. If you're not happy, you get up, you get away. I saw that at Chelsea against Manchester United. And you feel guilty about that. But we tried to resist. And we came back from 5-0 to 5-3 with my teammates. But we didn't feel that the fans, our own fans, were hating us. That's the worst. That's the worst because you fight against the circumstances and on top you have to fight against your own fans. That's stupid. The thing is, most fans don't want to boo. You know, there are some morons around that will boo people on their own team.

1:06:46But what most of you heard today was frustration. And I was doing it in the hearse. Now, if I was at a game, would I do the same? I don't think I would. But at the end of the day, it's frustration. Does it ever work the other way? Where, like, that pressure from the fans makes you better? For the away team? No, no, for the home team. Like, that, we demand more. Does that ever bring the best out of a team? No. The home fans shouting at you, booing at you, screaming at you, swearing at you, does absolutely nothing to make anything any better. Next question we touched on in the show. Will Salah keep starting?

1:07:24I think you said no. You said now's the time to make the move. Well, I said it's definitely it. I think when Arne Slott goes into his team meetings with his staff now, it's a conversation. He's in the vets. It's a conversation, isn't it? Entry to Frankfurt midweek, Champions League. He'll probably shuffle it up. He's got Brentford in the league after that. On the paper, it's not the toughest game at the moment. They need it. They need it. There's no easy game for Liverpool at the moment because they're not functioning as a team. So I think he's having a discussion. The problem is, is we've had this kind of discussion actually recently around Jude Bellingham.

1:08:01You know, not playing for England. How is his position in the Real Madrid side going to be? Is he going to be an automatic starter? Which we think he will be. But if Thomas Tuchel has a bee in his bonnet with him at a World Cup and doesn't play him, how do you handle that player and how does that player react within the camp? Now, go back to when Klopp took Salah off at West Ham. 18 months ago, whatever it was, he threw a strop. Threw a right strop. So what if Slott drops him? How's he going to be in the dressing room? You've got to think about these things as well. Stevie, what do you think the reaction would be from Liverpool fans if Salah's no longer a lock in the XI?

1:08:42You think they'd be OK with it? Yeah. Really? Proper fans, people that actually have an idea of what they're looking at, will kind of be thinking along the terms of what we're talking about here. You know, they had the situation with Verts where it became clear eventually he had to make a decision and he made the decision. Now the Salah one's a harder decision because it's Salah, but at the end of the day, regardless of who you are and what you've done, there comes a time when you're not helping in any way shape or form that you have to be sat down and that takes a strong manager but it also depends on the on the player it depends on most if mo salah realizes how much he's struggling then he has to be able to take that and if he takes a strop and becomes becomes a pest then that that that tells you some not very good things about his professionalism frank you want to weigh in most yeah most of i came out after the second goal manchester second goal uh and he came out and uh and where you would thought you know he will need most allah to score a goal and to maybe draw that game and slot already started the changing for me and uh he he really think that most allies uh was useless at that time and he say well okay i have to make a change so i really think that it's a possibility that the next game, maybe not on track Frankfurt but against Brentford, Mount Moosala doesn't start and it shouldn't be a problem because it's obvious to everybody that he's not the Moosala we used to see.

1:10:22You said would the Liverpool fans be bothered and Stevie said no but... I'm disappointed, yes. No wins, they've got four defeats in a row. The only thing fans are bothered about at the end of the day is winning games. Don't matter who pulls the red jersey on or the blue jersey. He was playing bad and they were winning. Arsenal are winning. City are winning. Those are your two biggest rivals. More straight losses. First time in a decade. That's why Vets kept playing. Because he kept winning. Right. He was able to keep playing Vets. As soon as the losses started happening, you had to pull him. To try and get him into form.

1:10:55But when you start losing and the players continue to do the same, comes a time for everybody. For all. Oh, where's Don when you need him? percentage chance Man U oh you're going to hate this question Steve finish above Liverpool this season why does the panel keep picking Liverpool

1:11:15shut this down the whole thing shut it down that's the stupidest of stupid I'm going to take that as a 0 % then oh my god they couldn't win a game for two oh my god Jesus god does Harry Kane not get enough recognition as one of the best players in the world Frank what do you think Is Harry Kane underrated?

1:11:38Don't think so. I think every time he does good things, we talk about it. And we were happy that he got his first trophy with Bayern Munich. I think it's an unfair statement. He's a great player. He's really a great player. One of the best strikers in the world. And we say it when we have to say it. And we mostly said, and how many times we said, that he should leave Spurs to win trophies because he's the kind of player who should be playing for big teams. And he does now for Bayern Munich, and I think everybody's happy. That kind of question always gets me in a sense that how does he not get the recognition?

1:12:19How in the mind of this individual? How do we determine what's enough recognition? Yeah, I mean, I feel like he gets a lot of love. Yeah. I think from his peers in the game, there's a lot of respect. If you saw any list of the top nines in the world, he'd be included, right? You know, and it's not just the fact he's at Bayern Munich now, which is one of the stronger teams. Let's be honest, he was doing it for years at Tottenham, who were not. They had the moments, but they were not the strongest. All right, last question here. Are both the Premier League and Bundesliga races over? This feels very, very early.

1:12:55How would the Premier League be over? What Stevia said, I mean, your words. Don't start what Dan Thomas says. I'm not going to Dan Thomas you, but I will say. I was annoyed at the time and I said. Okay, okay. There is a chance. There's a chance. Of course there's a chance. We're not ruling Liverpool out. I was upset. I was getting upset. She says things when he's upset. But let's be honest. Right now, there is no question that Arsenal are big favorites. Absolutely. You can't rely on City. you can't rely on Liverpool. But it's October. It's October. It's October and Arsenal have not proven under this manager that they can get over the line.

1:13:38What about the Bundesliga? Bayern with a five-point edge over Leipzig and Dortmund. That one feels a little safer to call. Yeah, I think so. Ultimately. Bayern, seven wins from seven matches. Perfect so far for this season in the Bundesliga. All right, that'll do it for this edition. There's only one stupid Man United question. For us, that's not one. Yeah, we'll take that. We'll take that. Especially on the day when they won. That's not too bad. That's not too bad. I thought there would be a barrage of them just flooding in with utter stupidity written all over them. I think you're telling the producer that before the...

1:14:11How many do you think hit the cutting room floor once I made them? I think there was a pretty good filter for today's time. We'll be back for another edition of the show tomorrow. See you then.
