0:34Alex Aljoe:Welcome in to the latest edition of ESPN FC. I'm Dan Thomas, joined by Ali Moreno and Stevie Nichol. We'll be talking FA Cup a little bit later on, but we'll kick things off in La Liga. Athletic club taking on Barcelona. Real Madrid, of course, beat Celta Ligo yesterday, but Barca, with that 1-0 victory thanks to a brilliant goal from La Minha Mar, means that Barca four points clear at the top of the tape. For more on this, Luis Garcia joins us. Luis, it's what being a superstar is all about, isn't it?
1:03Rob Mac:Yeah, exactly. And at some point, we were wondering why Hansi Fleetwood was keeping LaMilla Malde in the right side after a tough game during the week, knowing what is coming for the young talent, but it is what it is. It was rested Rafinha, it was rested Lewandowski, it was rested Pedro in the middle of the park, but LaMilla Malde wasn't rested. And today, he had a tough, tough game because it was well marked it was double up in a few occasions but it just needs a good pass in the right position to put in the top corner and to make the lead for barcelona and in the end the three points it wasn't an easy game for barcelona tough difficult atletico de bilbao had a few options but i'll mention it they are in the right positions they create a lot of opportunities they don't have the clinical the the accuracy in the last year they have so many problem this season.
1:50Rob Mac:Athletic-Claude Bilbao, no Nico Williams today. That brings more threat on the wide areas. It was all about Njaki Williams, Berenguer, that he was very tired also after the midweek game. So in the end, a good three points for Barcelona. Very important ones to keep the momentum going. And of course, after the defeat of Newcastle, I'm sure that they are going to be happy to face them in this midweek game. Best player in the world? Yeah. Well, I've been saying that for a while, but yes. And it's getting to the point now to where he doesn't even have to play well to have an impact on the game. It wasn't a good game by Laminya Mar.
2:26Rob Mac:And we talked about it in halftime. He didn't have the impact that he would have wanted. He was very quiet. Pedri comes on the field, makes a difference, finds Laminya Mar in a good position, isolated 1v1. And Adama, when he sucked in, now he's collapsing towards Laminya Mar. But he's panicking because he knows he's giving him time and space. And as he is panicking, then he loses his footing. And guess what? In you losing your footing, you allow La Minha Mal to cut to the inside and finish in the manner in which he did. And so it's that story of a player that maybe goes missing for long periods of time in the game, hasn't had the impact.
3:00Rob Mac:It's been a tough match. Adama has done well defensively. And you lose 1-0, and the game winner was La Minha Mal. That's a superstar. See, and that's when we cross the threshold of somebody who doesn't have to be at his best to still be better than you. Be better than Atleti Clou. And he didn't need to be better than Atleti Clou over the course of 90 minutes. He needed to be better than Atleti Clou in one sequence. And he was better than Adama, scores the game winner, and Barcelona take the three points.
3:28Ryan Reynolds:You know, your superstars always forget what's just happened. And they're ready to make something happen themselves. You know, he's not running around thinking, oh, it's not my day-to-day, things are not quite going for me. He's running around going, get me the ball because I'm going to separate us from this team. And then he gets it and he doesn't panic. Composure, accuracy, picks his spot, delivers it. I mean, that's what being a superstar is. And there's no question, this guy is a superstar.
3:58Alex Aljoe:Yeah, you can see he's already got his career-high season goals and we're, you know, three quarters of the way through. From a defensive point of view, Stevie, just tell me what he does to put the defender down. What's going on there?
4:11Ryan Reynolds:Well, with somebody like him, and there have been similar types of players before him, where you know they want to go on the left-hand side, and so the obvious thing would be to show them down the other side. The problem you have with him is that regardless of what side you show them, he's still going to be as good. and so you end up trying to cover both sides and he's too good 1v1 is too good that you can't cover on both sides and so that's why he's got the numbers he has because unless you kick him early unless you double team him, triple team him all of these things you're going to come off second best and in that position in the opposition's penalty box you're a dead man walking
4:56Rob Mac:One of the big factors as it pertains to defending La Minya Mal that is making a difference now more so than he did in years past, is fear, right? There is fear now from defenders. And you can see it and feel it from the left back of Atletico in the sequence, Adam Aboiro, as he's coming across. He knows that La Minha Mal is open. He has been sucked in because of the run that is coming underneath. Now, once that ball is being played past him by Pedri, he knows he has to go and recover because, yes, that's La Minha Mal. I'm going to go and get tight because this guy is going to kill us. And in that effort of coming and getting tight, he comes off balance.
5:33Rob Mac:And when he is off balance, then, I mean, it's just, uh-uh. Right. And that's it. Sit down. I'm going to take it to the inside. Here comes the goal.
5:40Ryan Reynolds:And as well as Sean on my side, if you get too close, his first step is so good that you're dead again.
5:47Alex Aljoe:Right. So that's why you need help. Luis, they needed help today because they looked tired, didn't they? And obviously, they've got Newcastle on Tuesday. They fly to England tomorrow. There's no rest.
5:58Rob Mac:No, there is no rest for any team that is trying to challenge for every competition and Barcelona is right there. And of course, the rotation today was needed. We saw in the midweek game how so many players, they were so tired because of the demanding game. Today, rotation in the middle of the par, we didn't see Pedri, we didn't see Rafinha, we didn't see Lewandowski, even that we knew that it was going to happen. At the back, also some rotation to give some rest to important players that they are going to need be needed in the next coming games. But yeah, in the second half, when Pedri just get involved, you could see that the game changed.
6:32Rob Mac:You could see that the possession was better. You could see that the build-up was better. But it's true that during those 45 minutes that we saw, Rafinha looked tired once again. He wasn't fresh. When he received the ball a couple of times, he missed the ball. And that's not Rafinha we all know. But it's what it is. We are in the toughest moment of the competition. They need to know and understand. And Miquel is going to be a big battle.
6:52Alex Aljoe:Yeah, Luis mentioned it. Tough. is his life if you're competing on all fronts.
6:56Ryan Reynolds:If you want to be at the highest level and be the best player you can be and play with the best team, then you're going to have to go through these periods. And you have to do what you have to do. Whether you go to your bed for two days, whether you get a cold bath, you have to get yourself in a position.
7:14Alex Aljoe:What does a cold bath do? Does that help? Wake you up?
7:16Ryan Reynolds:Apparently, yeah. Really?
7:18Alex Aljoe:Not that I ever have.
7:18Ryan Reynolds:I can't imagine you ever having a cold bath. No, that didn't happen in my day. Sorry, an ice bath, not a cold bath. Yeah, so yeah, as you said, that's what it is. Tough luck.
7:33Alex Aljoe:You chose it, get on with it. And Newcastle next, obviously, in the Champions League on Tuesday. We'll talk about them a little bit later on, but they look tired and leggy in their game.
7:44Rob Mac:So if we talk about vibes, about positive energy, Barcelona has much more of that than Newcastle does. And what can be very frustrating for Newcastle in playing against Barcelona is that Barcelona will knock the ball around. And they will not get in the back and forth with Newcastle because they know that if they control the pace of the game and have Newcastle chasing, then they can take advantage of the quality that they have in La Millamale, in Rafinha. It's going to be critically important, though, that from here till the match comes around, that Hansi Flick and his team get this team ready to play.
8:21Rob Mac:not by knocking the ball around, but to Stevie's point, a cold bath, an ice bath, massage, and mentally and physically rest after this game so that then you can create and manufacture some sort of performance away from home.
8:35Alex Aljoe:Luis, ice bath every day for you? Almost every day done.
8:41Rob Mac:On these days when I sleep only a couple hours every time that I travel, ice bath is the best cue, not only for me, but also for the players. He loves it.
8:48Alex Aljoe:All right, thank you very much, Luis. Much appreciated. Just remember every single game. live from Spain on ESPN Plus throughout the season. We continue tomorrow. Four ties for you, including Valencia against Alaves. And then on Monday, Espanol take on Real Oviedo.
9:03Ryan Reynolds:Luis sounded very serious there, didn't he? Well, yeah, he does. I bet he does.
9:10Alex Aljoe:Manchester City through to the next round of the FA Cup, defeating Newcastle 3-1. Newcastle would start the game the better of the two sides, but in the end, City dominated and thoroughly deserving of their victory. Manchester City did well. This is Manchester City reserves pretty much did very well. But I just feel a little bit the story is Newcastle because I don't understand what happened after being so good for the opening 15-20 minutes.
9:32Ryan Reynolds:Well, the biggest problem Newcastle generally have, particularly at home, is they play on emotion. And when you're playing on emotion, it means you're given every single thing, every single minute. And so when you've just come off what they've come off, the last couple of games and you don't have that energy then they blew a gasket such a good start clearly before the game they were revved up let's not forget about what happened the last couple of games, let's make sure we're at it and they were, but unfortunately they couldn't sustain it and Newcastle cannot sustain that type of energy playing with that sort of emotion in front of that crowd and that allowed City, when they dropped to get in the game and after that, then City just took them by the throat.
10:19You know, it's funny that sometimes we talk about
10:23Ryan Reynolds:when you make so many changes, you're playing basically reserve players or players that are not playing. And the worry is that they won't have enough in their legs because of that. But it actually went in Manchester City's favour. They absolutely had more legs when it mattered most and when they took control, that extra energy, you know, breathing, breathing. When you breathe, people forget it goes straight to the brain. It clears the brain. Newcastle couldn't breathe. They couldn't think straight. And so City, not only did they have the legs, they had the brains, they had the composure, they had the ability, they had the players, the goals, you name it.
11:03Ryan Reynolds:And so for me, that last hour of that game, Manchester City were absolutely in control.
11:08Alex Aljoe:For more of Stevie's meditation classes, be sure to click on the QR code. which we'll be showing you later on. Ali, we talk about the depth that Arsenal have. There's a lot of depth, this Manchester City side, which obviously is going to play when you're looking at the fact they're still fighting on the Champions League front as well as the Premier League as well.
11:26Rob Mac:Yes, there is depth, but not at the same level that Arsenal has. So, yes, you may have two players per position, but those two players per position are not playing as well as those two players per position are for Arsenal. So that's why the comparison is a little apples and oranges. Arsenal, I think, and their depth is probably the best in Europe, whereas Manchester City, even their best group hasn't been consistent enough. And that's why you find difficulties in believing in Manchester City as it pertains to Champions League. It was hard to believe in Manchester City today for the first 20 minutes.
12:04Rob Mac:If you had been watching this game for the first 20 minutes and you had to go to the grocery store, you would never have imagined that there would have been the turnaround that we saw today. Sometimes you have to just go and meditate at it. Yes, breathe. The cutting-edge analysis of breathing. Yes, well, truth is, and give Manchester City credit, in that those guys that got an opportunity today that I was questioning in the pregame, they were very good. A combination of that is Newcastle not breathing enough, apparently, and Manchester City just being able to have outstanding performances. Sabino, he didn't mean to score the goal, but he did mean to take on defenders the whole day, and he was doing that time and time again.
12:45Rob Mac:Stevie in the pregame highlighted Jeremy Dokum getting an opportunity. He was dangerous over the course of the match when he was on the field. Marmush getting an opportunity, scores two goals, and you're thinking, if you're Pep Guardiola and you had set out a perfect scenario for this match, of course you don't want to give up the first goal, and you don't want to play the first 20 minutes that you did play. But on the balance of the 90 minutes, this is exactly how you would have imagined and envisioned the game going, that these guys that get an opportunity were outstanding on the day, win the match, and now you focus on what's ahead.
13:16And to your point, what's ahead is Real Madrid, Champions League,
13:21Rob Mac:where that depth is going to be tested.

13:23Alex Aljoe:Let's get some reaction, shall we, after the game. Here's Pep Guardiola.
13:27Rob Mac:Pep, congratulations into the FA Cup quarterfinals for the eighth year in a row. but what did you make of your team's performance out there tonight?
13:33Ryan Reynolds:What do you think?
13:34Rob Mac:I think you enjoyed it, did you?
13:36Ryan Reynolds:We played so good. For the first 20 minutes, always in this stadium. Always happened, but after we, when we dropped them and made sequences of passes, and especially Savio and Jeremy, were so decisive. We made the best performance we played in this stadium in our time together here. So really, really good.
13:55Rob Mac:Talking of Savino, he got man of the match. Is that the easiest goal, though, he'll ever score?
14:01Ryan Reynolds:Yeah, I don't know but the ball was why don't follow the action because the ball was I don't know was clear to go but yeah we played really, really good Savinho haven't at that age and the one against one is unstoppable when we finish the final product we'll be top, top, top player
14:18Rob Mac:And how crucial was the timing of the second goal you scored then just after half-time given how well you ended the first half?
14:25Ryan Reynolds:Yeah of course it's important to score in the second in the first minutes but the game was really good. The first 50-20 minutes after that until the end was brilliant. The defenders, the midfielders, and both Nikos in general. Everyone happy for Muammar, making a fantastic, especially his second goal. But everyone, to beat Newcastle, you had to perform really well, especially here in the FA Cup in one game.
14:53Rob Mac:You were very animated today on the touchline, Pep, and obviously had some words with the referee. at full-time. What were you unhappy about?
15:02Ryan Reynolds:Listen, it's not about penalty, no penalty and it happened. There are everything actions that is difficult for me to understand. Because the fault to Jeremy is too clear and after, of course, I would not be in silence. Many, many, many times happened. Listen, we have all the records in this country. I'm sorry, even for the referees. All the records. We have also the manager of the most yellow cars in the house that have that record. So I'm so proud of that. So it's too clear. There are actions that are not understandable. You can make a mistake or an action and penalty or penalty. How do you conduct the actions?
15:43Ryan Reynolds:So when Jeremy dribbled, dribbled, and was pulled from behind, it's in every world's fault except here. So okay. That's what it is. So that's why well these are the yellow card. We have two games banned. So we'll be on holidays and the team will continue.
16:03Rob Mac:And I just have to ask you, after Omar Mamou scored the third, what were you saying? It looked like you were repeating something over and over again.
16:09Ryan Reynolds:I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. What were you sorry for? For how good we were playing.
16:16Rob Mac:And how nice is it, Pep, to make ten changes for your team to perform like that ahead of such a big game in the Champions League next week?
16:22Ryan Reynolds:It's what it is. We did it in against Lavaia Leverkusen and it was an incredible, incredible critic side, right? It wasn't me. I was the first that said maybe it's too many chances, but I trust a lot with those players. With the Mano games, everybody has to be involved and it's the only way because in three to four days we'll have a travel to Madrid and after that travel to London, so it's many games.
16:44Alex Aljoe:Rollercoaster there of emotions from Pep Guardiola. Was he happy? I don't know if he's ever happy.
16:49Ryan Reynolds:I think you need to give him some lessons in sarcasm.
16:53Alex Aljoe:Yes.
16:53Ryan Reynolds:His delivery is not there, is it? No. No, I wouldn't say it is.
16:57Alex Aljoe:Real Madrid next. They're going to this game favorites, rightly so, considering what we've seen from Real Madrid, Ali, and from what we've seen from City, in the fact they've been able to rest 10 players.
17:06Rob Mac:Yes. And this could have been a stressful match for Manchester City and ended up being not so. Yeah. Whereas you watch Real Madrid play yesterday and every minute of that match was stressful. And there is pressure that surrounds this team. There is pressure that surrounds Arbeloa. So beyond the physical aspect of the game and the fact that Real Madrid just haven't played well and haven't played well for a while and haven't created enough opportunity, haven't scored enough goals, they've had their issues defensively, they get disconnected in the midfield. Beyond all of that, then there is an aspect of, how are you feeling going into this match?
17:42Rob Mac:What is your level of confidence going into this match? And you must say, Real Madrid, if indeed they present themselves as confident, they're making it up. they're lying to you straight to your face because there is nothing to really draw confidence from, not even winning yesterday. Winning yesterday was due to a deflection that if the ball had gone off the post and in for Iago Aspas with minutes to go, it would have been yet another defeat, three in a row in La Liga. So Real Madrid are barely hanging on. Manchester City are coming in this, I wouldn't say flying, but feeling a whole lot better about themselves after this result against Newcastle.

20:08Alex Aljoe:Chelsea through to the next round of the FA Cup. However, However, they made to work hard for it against Wrexham. Wrexham twice in the lead. They thought they got an equaliser late on in the tie. However, VAR would disallow it. Chelsea in the end winning by four goals to two. Alex Aljo caught up with Rob Mack and Ryan Reynolds after the game.
20:29Rob Mac:Rob, Ryan, a rollercoaster of emotions, I'm sure. How do you sum that one up? We'll come to you first, Ryan. Well, it feels like a win to me. We are hosting Chelsea at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham. I mean, if you look back five years, people wouldn't even say the name Wrexham. And, you know, cut to today and they say they can't stop saying the name Wrexham without a eating grin on their face. I've censored myself there. So, you know, it's a profound shift in everything about this community. And, you know, the town has lifted its fortunes with the club. and that's the thing that I think early on Rob identified that if the town succeeds in lockstep with the club we've done something wonderful.
21:18Rob Mac:If one succeeds without the other then we're missing something. How special is this group of players? What have you been saying to them in the dressing room just now? Well they were buzzing back there and we were hoping that that was the case because you could feel the excitement at the end of the game in the stadium. The supporters saw what they just put into that game. They gave it everything. We're playing one of the best teams in the world. And for them to go out there and make it as competitive as they did was incredible. And, you know, VAR is up for debate. I don't know. Do you like it? Do you hate it?
21:52Rob Mac:I want to say what Rob just said. Can you believe something on this? I think the chant was, F*** VAR. Sensor that. That would be the beep. Lucky this is not live. They did say that. They're going to actually call VAR on what you just said. Yeah, that's it. No, I mean, look, at the end of the day, the rules are the rules. And I feel like we put on a really great performance and it was reflected not only on the pitch but in the stadium. Yeah, and now I guess the aim is to be playing Chelsea in the Premier League next season, get your revenge. It's been the aim since day one. It really has. I mean, nothing's really changed about that.
22:32Rob Mac:I just, it's so moving to see how galvanized it is around here, how these supporters just feel about this football club and how infectious it is. And just to see people all over the world, you know, adopt Wrexham as sometimes their second team, sometimes their only team. It's a really beautiful thing. I think the story resonates because there's a Wrexham all over the world. There's a Wrexham in every country, everywhere. And it's just been awesome. It's just awesome to watch those boys out there leave their last drop of blood on this field. in Max Clearer's case the actual last drop of blood he's bleeding quite profusely back there but it was pretty amazing I got misty-eyed a few times especially when you hear the fans singing your names as well Deadpool
23:15Ryan Reynolds:yeah that is always a little surreal it is very strange
23:19Rob Mac:if I could remember 10 to 14 ,000 names I'd sing a song back to them and you'll be back here on Tuesday, you go again Tuesday we go again, Hull City, and then Saturday or Friday we have Swansea. So, yeah, it's a big week. It's a big week at the Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground. Well, thank you so much for your time. I know your family is here, so go and enjoy the rest of the evening here in Wales. Thank you very much. Thank you so much. Great FA Cup time, wasn't it? Oh, absolutely. And I know the tendency would be to go down the path of how impressive Wrexham was, but as a player while they may be excited about the sort of performance that they put forth there's also going to be a part of you that says, man we were right there you go up 2-1 and it's 20 minutes to go and you're thinking, hey let's hang on and hold on for the next 10-15 minutes or so and make sure that Chelsea don't get back into this match and then we close it out and as they push numbers forward maybe we get a counter attack opportunity and score a third and this is done and they just were not able to get beyond those first 5-10 minutes.
24:29Rob Mac:Chelsea scored right away, made it 2-2. And even at 2-2, it was still competitive and the red card did something to this match that really conditioned the way that Wrexham were going to play. So while the story in itself continues to be magical for Wrexham, and it will be, and I have no doubt in my mind that this team eventually will make it into the Premier League and that in itself will be magical. I think today, yes, there was magic, but there was potential for even more magic. And they had it in them to score a couple of goals and to see this through, just unable to do so in the end.
25:03Ryan Reynolds:This is a great barometer for all the Wrexham players. Because they have an opportunity. They could even do it this year. They're in a position, I think, where they're going to be in the playoffs right now. You never know. They might go on an incredible run. And so for the Wrexham players, it's two things. It's one that if we do go up with a couple of additions, we could compete to stay in the league. But the real lesson is that as well as you play and as good as you think you've been, the teams in the Premier League will punish you for any little mistake. Because that's why they lost. They weren't outplayed by Chelsea.
25:41Chelsea just have that little bit of quality that when the opposition make a mistake, they pounce on it.
25:47Ryan Reynolds:And that's the only difference between these two teams today. Chelsea could win this thing. They could, yeah. They could, yeah. But to be fair to them, they're probably in a list of the eight other teams that are going to be in the next round. I don't think so. Not all eight.
26:03Alex Aljoe:Tomorrow's games, you look at those opponents. Obviously, you've got Arsenal, City, Liverpool.
26:08Ryan Reynolds:Chelsea could lose to all the Premier League teams that are left. Let's put it that way. Well, Liverpool were there. Sorry?
26:19Ryan Reynolds:Do you know what the scariest sound to hear on a factory floor is? Silence. That means something somewhere broke. 27:38Alex Aljoe:Elsewhere, Arsenal were made to work hard for it, but in the end they booked a place in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory against Mansfield. Eze the hero in the end as Arsenal advanced to the next round. He caught up with Jermaine Bergford after the match. So first and foremost congratulations on another goal in another game in the FA Cup. You must really enjoy this competition.
28:00Rob Mac:Yeah it's a special competition. We all want to play in it but the main thing getting into the next round is what
28:07Alex Aljoe:we set out to do wasn't easy today it was a difficult game but yeah we put in the performance obviously going a goal ahead just before half time they were very very in your faces very aggressive on the press they were breaking play down really well what was said at half time it was just understanding the conditions that were playing up against us it's a difficult place to
28:30Rob Mac:play there a strong team the fans everything about this place was difficult today so just understanding the conditions that we're in
28:38Alex Aljoe:and doing what we needed to do, which is focusing on the basics. Talk me about your goal. Because that looked to me like a man that was possessed. What a finish. Holy spirit. Holy spirit. 100%.
28:52Rob Mac:Yeah, no, it was... I just saw the opportunity, I saw the space to get a shot off. And whenever I'm in and around the box, I want to try to create and make things happen.
29:01Alex Aljoe:And yeah, today I've scored and I thank God for it. Congratulations once again. Good luck this season. for all four competitions. I think you lot are fantastic. You personally are my favorite player. So I want you to keep up the good work. I appreciate it, man. God bless you. Thank you very much. Oh, nice bit of love there. Jules never gets loved when he interviews people like that. They just want to get away as quickly as possible. Jules, who was at the Newcastle game for us. But of course, we want to talk to you about Arsenal. Jules, they can win all four.
29:31Ryan Reynolds:Yeah, they can. I don't think they will, but they can, of course. because like City, I guess, they can still win all four. If you ask Arteta and the players, this is exactly where they wanted to be at the start of the season. If you said to them in March, this is where you would be at, who you will be playing and when, and that's exactly what they would have signed for and taken. So this is good. There is some squad management to come forward, for sure. And you mentioned the injuries that happened this afternoon, but people had game minutes today that needed the game minutes. It was good for some of them to start, good for some of them to play like they did.
30:08Ryan Reynolds:And then in midweek, you go back into the Champions League with probably as many as, what, seven, eight, nine changes. Ideal, Stevie. How many teams have you got winning this? What do you mean? I said Chelsea. Arsenal can win four. Chelsea can win it.
30:23Alex Aljoe:Don't get Marty because you said a stupid thing and now you're going back to it. You're holding a grudge. could win over it? Just because I said Chelsea could win and you said eight other teams. Who's not going to win it? Sorry again? Who's not going to win it? Southampton or Fulham. There you go. Leeds, whoever they are playing. West Ham, Bradford or Brentford, whoever it is on Monday. There you go. I don't think any of them are winning it, so that's all right. I'm glad you've done the research there. Question. Those other teams.
30:47Ryan Reynolds:Arsenal will not win the four. Let's be quite honest. OK. And there's a reason why it has never been done. Because it's, there are so many things that have to go your way. It basically has to be the perfect storm. So, yeah. Even you're not putting any money on it at all.
31:05Alex Aljoe:I don't know. Premier League, they've got. Carabao Cup, they can beat City on their day. FA Cup, you know, not many people can win that. Apparently. Champions League, I think, it's fair to say it's the big question, Mark.
31:18Ryan Reynolds:This isn't the first year we've sat here and talked about a team that could maybe win. Well, Liverpool, of course. We did the same thing. We talked about Liverpool. And it all fell apart. And it completely fell apart. Well, it's because you've had
31:27Alex Aljoe:that team against Plymouth.
31:28Ryan Reynolds:Yeah, oh, exactly. So I don't see that happening to Arsenal. Let's put it that way. They could possibly win a couple, but they won't win four.
31:36Alex Aljoe:Right. They won't win four. How many then, Ali? Where's our line on this? How many trophies are they going to win?
31:42Rob Mac:I'm going to put it at two. Right. And then priority number one being the Premier League. And I think that is sort of the conversation starter. Everything else that comes after that, I think, is a bonus. The one thing that you have to make sure you do is Premier League, and it's right in front of you. And if you're able to do that sooner rather than later, it may free you up to then push that number from two to three and maybe even four. But two is the number in terms of the trophies that I think realistically they're going to win out of the fourth.
32:14Alex Aljoe:Jules, what are you chuckling at?
32:21Ryan Reynolds:Four, like I said, I agree with Stevie. I don't think they will do four. I think they will take one if it's the Premier League. This is it. I think when you're there now, and I spoke to John Stones earlier after this game tonight, and he said when you're now in this position, you dream of all, you go for everything. And when you have big squads as well, you don't need to prioritize. We mentioned Newcastle today because the FA Cup was the one thing they knew they could win really more realistically than anything else. But if you're Arsenal City especially, then you know that you could win the Champions League.
32:56Ryan Reynolds:Of course, Arsenal are in the right side of the draw as well. They've got some momentum, especially in Europe. They top the league phase. The Premier League, like Ali said, seven points, even with a game more, is significant at this time of the season. So I guess you dream, you always dream, but realistically, one, definitely, and I think they will go with two, but I don't know which ones.
33:16Alex Aljoe:Meanwhile, Jules, obviously you were at St James' Park covering Newcastle's clash against Manchester City. not quite the fortress of course that we're used to when we talk about St James's Park this kind of sums up their form of late just not good enough I know they haven't got Bruno in midfield and they're missing some key players but the way in which this game went today would be so disappointing
33:36Ryan Reynolds:for the fans yeah absolutely and the place was rocking when we arrived already like an hour and a half before kickoff then they took the lead and started so well for the first 20 minutes where We said their intensity, how aggressive they are. It's very difficult to play against, especially with the crowd here. The problem is if you can't keep that intensity for longer, if there's not that consistency in terms of how much you will hassle the opposition, how well you will press, how high will you recover the ball like they do on their goal. It's because they recover the ball on the halfway line and then play through the high line from City defensively that they score that goal.
34:13Ryan Reynolds:After that, they just could not do it again. and against a team like City that can get the ball, control the ball, dictate the pace of the game. It's more and more difficult. I was a bit disappointed, I have to say, about what Eddie Howe did or didn't do, especially because we mentioned a halftime, Volta Madre having to play so deep in that midfield three where one, he's not comfortable at all and two, I'm not sure how good he is at it anyway. And then at the start of the second half, he's still there in the same position and the second goal from City comes from what? Mateus Nunez, who runs into that half space.
34:43Ryan Reynolds:Votemada is the man with him. Let him go, it's the cross and then Marmou scores. And I say, I really don't understand why Votemada was still there after the break. Any word on the rugby today, Jules?
34:56Ryan Reynolds:What rugby? Yes, Scotland. Scotland beat France there, it's a big shocker.
35:01Alex Aljoe:Where are you going, Jules? Where are you going tomorrow? Anywhere exciting?
35:06Ryan Reynolds:No, I'm going back to London on the longest train ever. I mean, I thought Newcastle and London where two big cities that the train will go quick from one to another. We stopped in places I didn't even know existed in the UK. Some places I've never heard of. So it's the same return journey tomorrow. And by the way, you can't talk about rugby, Dan, because seeing how England are doing right now.
35:27Alex Aljoe:Don't understand what you're saying, Jules. He was asking on my behalf. I was very much asking on his behalf. Stevie, for you, it's fine. Sunday roast the marcotti tomorrow then. Enjoy that, Jules. Thank you very much. Enjoy your journey back and all those stops. Thank you. Just a reminder then, the FA Cup continues tomorrow. Fulham against Southampton, Port Vale against Sunderland, Leeds against Norwich City and then on Monday… I'd say there's a winner in amongst that one. …against Redford. All those games live on ESPN+. Back to our top for the game. That makes sense. Back to our main game. Athletic club taking on Barcelona.
36:05Alex Aljoe:Barcelona winning 1-0 thanks to World E from Lamin Jamal. Here's Hansi Flick. What important is the victory tonight? Very important. It was a tough game today. At the end for us it is important to win this match. Because the team has been suffering a lot during the 90 minutes. Of course, but I think we have some good chances also in Bilbao. But at the end we have a clean sheet today. It was also so important for us. and we know that that tier in Bilbao is not easy to win.
36:39Ryan Reynolds:How important has been Pedri in the second half?
36:42Rob Mac:The smart, the pass, everything?
36:45Alex Aljoe:Yes, of course, Pedri is a game changer and he changed also the game. So, he gave us more control and also for us, really good.
36:56Ryan Reynolds:Do you think that Daniel Mo plays better when Pedri is on the pitch? And he has been changed when he was playing better, the performance of Daniel Mo, maybe?
37:04Alex Aljoe:Yeah, both of them are good with the ball. I think also for Dani and Petri they know each other very well. Also in the national team. They know how to play with each other. So this is a good thing. I think also in the second half Dani played much better.
37:24Ryan Reynolds:The last one, because Petri has said we are all very tired. Do you have any time to recover until Tuesday?
37:30Alex Aljoe:Yes, this is why we go directly overnight here in Bilbao and go directly to Newcastle. I think it's so important to have these two days together with all the treatments, with all the food, nutrition has to be perfect and this is why we did this. And breathe. ESPN FC on your screens tomorrow. breathing exercises. Exactly. Well, I imagine we might talk some Champions League.

40:33Alex Aljoe:Meanwhile, the US Women's national team in action against Colombia today. A win for the US would see them retain the She Believes Cup. And it would happen in the 82nd minute, and Lisa Thompson.
40:47Ryan Reynolds:Lisa Thompson there, nice little ball to a great first touch, but wow look at that man. Top corner, nobody's getting close to that.
40:58Alex Aljoe:Where are the spiders? Lay their eggs. Nice. The US then perfect, three games, three victories as they once again win the She Believes Cup. Crystal Dunn will be joining Ali on the latest edition of Football W that drops on Tuesday 8.30 Eastern on ESPN+. Right, so we talked about this yesterday in the Celta Vigo game. Madonna, back in the 90s, wore this Celta Vigo shirt and there was then a Madonna special night, if you like, in Vigo last night. Everybody dressed up, excited to pay tribute to the 90s legend. And has the shirt turned up? Well, a very certain Madonna tweeted today, this shirt is hanging in my archives.
41:46Alex Aljoe:I'm wearing and representing your team in spirit. But they won the shirt back.
41:52Ryan Reynolds:Yeah, she never said that you can have it.
41:54Alex Aljoe:What they're asking for is for the shirt back. Juan Mata, where's he playing these days? Australia. And he scores here a free kick. Yeah, beautifully taken.
42:08Rob Mac:And this was necessary because? Well it's Juan Mata. Oh, alright, okay. Okay, alright, okay.
42:15Ryan Reynolds:I'm pretty confident Juan Mata takes every free kick, corner, goal kick, and throw-in. Yeah, well taken Juan Mata. What's the agent compared to you? Yeah, probably not much in that.
42:27Alex Aljoe:He's breathing well though. Mata greases the nickel. Well he needs to. More the same. We all need to. Stay tuned, extra time's next.
42:37Alex Aljoe:Welcome in to the latest edition of Extra Time. Thank you very much for all your messages. Ali is here. Stevie is getting angry at me today for no reason. I said that Chelsea could win the FA Cup. You got Mardi about that for some reason. You got what? What is it? Mardi's like moody.
42:53Ryan Reynolds:I didn't get moody. I just said, well, a bit of a stretch, aren't I? I don't think it's a stretch. Well, you could have paid it. They're not any further ahead than probably half the other teams. You were correct. Oh. There are a couple of teams that will not win it. Right, OK. But... Well, it's between Liverpool City and Arsenal... It's just the way he said it. It sounded as if it's like, oh, they're going to win it now.
43:16Alex Aljoe:I think my phrase was, they could win this. And then you went, well, I don't know, there are seven other teams.
43:20Ryan Reynolds:As I've told you many times before, it's your tone.
43:23Alex Aljoe:Oh, the tone that it is.
43:24Ryan Reynolds:Your tone.
43:24Alex Aljoe:OK, right. You know what you could have done, Stevie? You could have done some of your breathing exercises to just kind of calm down. Yeah, Stevie's doing meditation today and ice baths. Some things, of course, he utilised well back in his playing days. Stevie, Leicester won the Premier League 10 years ago. Today they sit 23rd in the Championship. What team from your era had a fall off like this?
43:43Ryan Reynolds:Leeds United. Yeah. It's the team that are battling in the Champions League, of course. Leeds United got the semi-finals of the Champions League. And then absolutely disappeared. Yeah. You talk about complete and utter mismanagement of a football club. Giving way too much money for players, giving way too much money in salary, spending money, spending money before it came in, expecting it to come in, and then it didn't come in.
44:09Alex Aljoe:So yeah, absolutely. Some great stories of players' negotiations from back in those days. Ali, despite them losing today, did Wrexham prove that they can manage playing Premier League football?
44:21Rob Mac:They proved they can compete. And they proved that on a given day, they can give themselves a chance to win these sort of matches. but what they also show themselves is that there is a difference that some people may seem as gigantic. The difference is this, but this is a lot, between what Chelsea is capable of doing with the mistakes that Wrexham provided or made and the opportunities that they provided Chelsea with those mistakes as compared to what Wrexham can do with the mistakes that Chelsea provided and made. And so I think it's a message for the club of if that's where we need to be and that's where we want to be, how can we get there?
45:07Rob Mac:Well, first, we got to make it there. We got to get out of the championship. But secondly, if we want to stay up there, then they have to do what they have done already with this club, which is player turnover. You move from the players that got you from the National League on to the next, on to the next, on to the next. and you continue to build the team as such. They've done a very good job of it so far. I have no doubt that once they make it into Premier League, they'll make the correct decisions too.
45:33Alex Aljoe:We saw Laminya Maal score a world-eer, of course, today to give the victory for Barstow over Athletic Club. How many goals will he score against Newcastle over the two legs?
45:41Ryan Reynolds:Oh, dear.
45:42Alex Aljoe:Do you want to hear something stupid that I said?
45:43Ryan Reynolds:Yeah.
45:44Alex Aljoe:When the draw was made, I said that Newcastle had a chance. Not a surprise. That I said something stupid? Yeah. Since then, they've gone awful.
45:57Yeah, they've...
45:58Alex Aljoe:They seem to... How many goals will it mean you might? We don't need a Newcastle analysis. Aye. Sorry. I feel like you forgot the question.
46:07Ryan Reynolds:Sorry, you thought of the...
46:09Alex Aljoe:I feel like you're going down the road.
46:16Ryan Reynolds:I'm going to go... I'm going to go a minimum of three. Wow. Yep.
46:24Rob Mac:Yeah. Over or under three? Under three. Under three? Yeah. More likely to be two than it is three. Regardless, the news is that Barcelona are heavy favourites to advance. Yes, exactly.
46:40Alex Aljoe:Yes, and that was a ridiculous statement. Max Dallmann is such a promising young talent, Stevie. How should Arsenal utilise him to best develop his talents over the next 18 months?
46:51Ryan Reynolds:Wow, that's a tough one.
46:56Ryan Reynolds:I'm going to have to go back and look at the Man United model with Fergie. Right. And Fergie got people out on loan and got games under their belt. So you would say get out on loan?
47:09Ryan Reynolds:I think so. It's the only way he's going to... He will get to a certain level by training with the first team and the first team squad every day. but you really don't start taking proper leaps until you play first team football and he's not going to be doing that anytime soon I don't believe at Arsenal. So where would you send him?
47:36Ryan Reynolds:I would send him to the top of the championship. Send him to a team who actually are going to be dominant and he's going to get plenty of the ball and he's going to get reps. that's where I would send them. You know, you see players going to teams in the bottom half of the Premier League. There's no point in doing that. There's no point in going to a Burnley because all you're doing is defending. It makes you a better defender. But Arsenal want you to be in the final third creating and scoring goals. So, yeah, I would, wherever it is, even abroad, I think the most important thing is it's a good level and you're at a team that's going to have a lot of the ball
48:16Alex Aljoe:and that way you get loads of reps. Stevie, which is more difficult, successfully fighting relegation or winning the title?
48:27Ryan Reynolds:I think winning the title. It's more difficult? Yeah. Because when you're in a relegation fight, it's more about scrap and desire and running and all of those things. When you're going to win a title, you have to win games, which means you have to create and score goals. and obviously you have to defend properly as well. So I think it's easier to get out of a relegation scrap because you can get everybody together. You keep clean sheets, you pick up points. That'll keep you up. To win titles, you have to win games.
49:04Alex Aljoe:Final question. Of course, a couple of years ago, Ali said that he would disown his own son if he could adopt Pedri. Ali, one last seat at the Moreno dinner table. Lamine, Pedri and your son don't have a seat, who would you give it to?
49:23Rob Mac:Well it's not Lamine. No. The controversy is surrounding who he brings to the house too. Okay, right. I'm going to give Lamine and Yamal off.
49:36Alex Aljoe:Obviously you have two sons, you have Gregory and Alejandro, so which were you originally ditching? Was it Alejandro? Alejandro, yes. So he's... Okay, so they're playing the same position. Right. Right.
49:45Rob Mac:So I figured that Pedri is going to get us further forward. I think it's cheaper to feed Pedri than it is to feed Alejandro.
49:57Alex Aljoe:Yeah, that's fair enough.
49:59Rob Mac:When he comes to visit, the budget in the house gets stretched. So if it is for a meal... For one meal, I'll keep Alejandro. If it is for an extended period of time, bring Fedri because feeding Alejandro is... you're losing money. Right. You gotta make this about mathematics.
50:21Alex Aljoe:No, no, that's fair enough. Never mind the art, the love of the family. And how would Mrs Moreno feel about this? That maybe I'm losing my seat. Yes, I think that's the first.
