In short

The hosts chat about their upcoming New Orleans trip, relationship/intimacy philosophy, parenting without anxiety, and whether/when to move to Italy, plus a long Q&A. They also discuss phobias (galliophobia/shark fear; thalassophobia/deep-water fear) and share personal stories (pregnancy timing, panic attack on a plane, parenting risk-taking).

Guests

No external guests. The episode features Pia Barancini and her husband Davide Berancini.

Guest backgrounds

Pia is a creative director and content creator; Davide is her husband and business partner. They mention Hillary Hogan (friend from New Orleans) and Steve Hogan (Hillary’s father), plus a long-time men’s group called the Dixie Dix.

Key claims

Sex shouldn’t be scheduled or transactional; intimacy grows organically from connection/gratitude. Parenting should avoid constant fear; kids learn from manageable risk. Moving to Italy isn’t desired now, though Europe could help future kids’ education.

Notable examples

Galatoire’s and a bar crawl with the Dixie Dix; Pia’s pregnancy discovered after a New Orleans trip; Davide’s panic attack during a flight with food poisoning; letting their child climb into wood chips with an OT present.

0:00The following podcast is a dear media production.

0:14Davide Berancini, welcome to the program. I love the proper presentation. Davide Berancini. Hello, hello, everyone. What did you just post on your Insta story? Oh, you're a cool short. Did you know what is it called when you have an irrational, overwhelming and persistent fear of sharks? Oh, that's us. What is it? It's called galliophobia. We're galliophobic for sure. But like, like means like, you know, when you're like, oh, in a pool, a shark might come. No, but you got that from me because I know that there's, I know that there's. There's no one is under there. There is a shark. You're only saying that because I have said to you, since you saw our pool for the first time, that I know that there is a shark in our pool.

1:07I've known it since I was little. There's a shark in there. Before I forgot, I wanted to start my conversation saying that I actually have a screenshot of it here. I found, I found. Say it again. I can't remember my brain. It's called galliophobia. Is gallio the name for shark in Latin or some shit? No. No. What does gallio mean? Let's ask chat GBT. This says celacophobia because celacos means shark. Fear of shark specifically. This is it. I'm looking right here. Greek for the meaning of shark in Greek is celacos. You linked that to a Greek word. Oh, galliophobia. It says related terms often confused.

1:53Galliophobia is the fear of shark specifically Very similar, sometimes used interchangeably. Okay. Thalosophobia is a fear of deep water. And I have that too. I won't go in a lake. Wow. Gross. What the fuck is below me? Hell no. The depth doesn't bother me. It's more of what eventually is in there. No, the depth doesn't bother me. And that's a conversation for a different time. I wanted to just bring it up because we've been yeah I was afraid to forget it thank you for bringing that up okay we're going to answer some questions Davide and I are going to New Orleans in an hour we are doing something really cool for work that no one will ever know about but it has something cool it's a cool thing that we manifest in

2:57I love you because you're like none of your fucking business somebody would never know about it so why are you saying it? that person that wants to say it but that doesn't want to say it no I'm just saying we're not taking like a the genesis of this trip is work and then my best friend Hillary Hogan who grew up in New Orleans she grew up in Pasadena she moved here when she was like six or ten or something but her parents are from New Orleans you might have seen Steve Hogan on our Instagram He is the older gentleman with the mustache in the southern drawl who is a very close friend of ours. We went to New Orleans last time.

3:33David and I were there together for his 80th birthday, which was like a year and a half ago, two years ago. We had the best fucking weekend of our lives. I was like five weeks pregnant with Carlo and didn't know. Just ripping in New Orleans, waking up, drinking all day, which is why Carlo is such a party boy. I found out like a week after we got back that I was pregnant. Makes sense. It makes completely sense. I know. I never thought of him. I was a number one frat boy. And I messaged him because we needed to go to New Orleans for work, but it wasn't super time sensitive. It was, you know, within the next month kind of thing.

4:11And I hit up the Hogan to see if they would be there, and they're going to be there. So we are just going to hang out with our favorite people and his friends. we're meeting up tomorrow with this group of friends called the Dixie Dix let's go which is just a group of gentlemen that have been best friends for like 40 years and we're going to go to Galatoire's with them and then we're going to go get some cocktails afterwards do a little bar crawl we're going to see some music we're going to do a shoot for LPA we have a meeting David's getting a shave I'm going to do a whole recap of this on Substack I love your Substack by the way yesterday I emailed you back when I received it yeah I said it's very cute I really like how you Hold on, you're subscribed to my Substack newsletter?

4:52I'm not. Somehow I got yours. And I answered back to your email. I saw it was your email address. I'm confused about your relationship with Substack because you have the app on your phone. Some pops in my... Somebody did that to my phone. The only Substack I think I... Follow? Is Michael Williams' one. And Riley's. I don't know if I follow Riley's either. You're a bad friend. No, it's not for them. Michael once wrote about me. I think that you... I think it was when he started. I think that you should have a sub stack, and I also think that you don't. I am very happy when I am right. I'm already over max capacity.

5:33Yeah. I mean, beyond. Should add something else to your plate. That will make you more content. Okay. Let's answer these questions. We're raw-dugging this. Do you ever see yourselves moving to Italy? I'm honestly kind of tired of that question, you guys. I'll tell you why we need to in a little bit more you will not feel that much of in Italy anymore you know a lot of people are moving to Italy yeah every time I open TikTok it's like some girl from Ohio who's like here's how I buy a villa in Sicily for$10 ,000 I love those quiet videos and they're like with the music like eroterical music this is our house in Sicily we just found in this village called and we bought it for I am a democrat we are both democrats I would like you to don a dress my political my political position but I would like to say that people associate loving America with the republican party and we are allowed to love our country we have so many things that most people don't, that they dream of.

6:50And we take it for granted here. And yes, not everything is fucking perfect at all, but we have the right to vote and exercise free speech and post fucking dumb shit all day long on TikTok and Instagram and make money in various ways. And yes, we have no middle class right now. I'm grateful to be here. So this whole idea that like, I got to get out of here and move to Europe. You know, a lot of the same issues that we have here are also issues in other country, many other countries, especially fucking Europe. Do I want to move there right now? No, I am grateful to be here. We are building businesses.

7:30And because we live in this country, we are able to build those businesses in a way that we can't do in other countries, period, full stop. And I have gratitude for that. I would like to move to the East Coast and frequent Italy a lot more. And then listen, I'm going to say dream scenario. If my kids want to go to college, they can go to college for free in Europe. So at that point, I'm like, yeah, like, you know, in 18 years when our kids, you know, I think living between New and our kids figure it out. In Italy, and when they go to school in Europe, which is a better education and a great and safe environment, I could see us like moving there.

8:11We would like a place there. I just think that we're much too far away. And it kills me that my children are not spending a significant amount of time with my husband's family and that we are very distant from them. And I would like to close that gap. But no, I don't have a desire to like be one of those people that like moves to Italy because I don't think I would be happy there at all on a day-to-day basis at this aspect of my life. I have nothing to add to that. Thank you. Yeah, I'm happy we're aligned.

8:49You know that I work out a lot and in true Los Angeles fashion, I keep those clothes on for a long time after my workout. And that's why I love Viore. Viore is an investment in your happiness. 10:43Hi, I'm LaBosworth Natale and I'm so excited because I'm a first time mom. Over the last decade, I've felt wellness products for millions of women at my company, Love Wellness, but nothing has rocked my world quite like having our miracle baby. Not even close. Tell Me I'm a Good Mom is my new podcast about navigating motherhood in real time in a culture where we obsessively document our kids, but quietly sideline mothers. Motherhood comes with endless advice, but very few honest conversations about how it actually feels to be a mom. So that's what we're going to talk about. Because we deserve more than parenting tips.

11:22We know we're not bad moms if our kid cries while we take a shower. Frankly, we deserve a rebrand. We deserve context, language, and a place in the culture. This is Tell Me I'm a Good Mom.

11:44how to prioritize intimacy when spending so much time together it's kind of a hold on i don't get it how do you prioritize intimacy when spending so like what's the famous interview is like are you are you asking about my sexuality it's like no and so you're asking about my success like yes i think they want to know i think they want to you know what i'm talking about it was like tomorrow it's like what do you think about i think this angel wants to know since we are around each other all the time how do you how do you make the bring the spark back are we fucking how do we are we intercourse i think that it's it's it's interesting i think this is not the first time we get that question and and and not to sound like the guy but i think it's more of a of a it's usually a question that i'm expecting from a younger person and i don't mean to sound you know you can get married at 21 and by the age of 30 being already where we're at.

12:53If you look at intimacy in that sense or any form of that might be so sex just to enjoy ourself rather than intimacy, like making love and finding ourself. And like, you know, like it doesn't change much from when you're just on a normal couple. I think we are very good at keeping ourselves as a couple. We kind of date. We do a good job on dating each other. And I'm not mean to sound like, you know, sometimes we don't do a good job with that. And that's how life is. But we bounce back from it. Like, this is so, it ebbs and flows. No, but you know what I mean? it's hard to treat that as a thing you put in your schedule and so yeah so we do it in an organic way you know and and i would like to talk for myself of course some of the highest moment of when i feel the most inspired to look for intimacy from my wife comes from gratitude and and and deep love and seeing my kids running around and, and, and as in our house and cooking or, or sharing a great time or going on a walk with the dog, like after those moments that reminds me why I got to say something, why I love you.

14:22That's when, when, when it kicks in. You and we talk about this when I ask you about, this is where our cultures are very different. I'll be like, Davide, have you ever had a sex with, with a, you know, have you ever done like this thing or that thing or whatever. And every time we have those conversations, it'll flow very organically and very quickly into him talking about, he never names names. He never is, he's never said anything vulgar about another woman ever in the 10 years I've been with him. He will talk about - Even before we got together, seriously, I think you can confirm that. Like I never had that.

14:59But he will talk romantically about how it felt to be 14 and kissing girls for the first time and picking them up on his vest, but how beautiful. Like, so he's in a different category. I, and I say it sometimes, like, to be funny, I'll be like, you want to have sex? But like, he's not the kind of man that if I walk up to him and be like, oh, you want to have sex really quick? He'll be like, Pia, what? Like, stop. How do you sound like that? He'll never, no, but when it'll be, it's when he, when we, when it, when we are connected and it happens, it's because it's like a really beautiful moment.

15:33So it can be. Or a moment of lightness. Yeah. It's not, and that keeps us on our toes with like how we treat each other. If I'm snappy at him and I'm being bitchy, like it's, it's like, he's not going to look at me and be like, oh, I definitely want to make love to you right now. Like, you know, and same thing with him. Like, so we have a really, like, beautiful life where we take a lot of pleasure in just, like, sitting outside with each other for a little bit. Or, like, the little kids this morning, we're listening to music and we, like, dance to it for a second together. Yeah, that's what I was trying to say.

16:04Like, I think it's a very nice, I don't know, I feel very connected. We keep it romantic around here. Connected regardless. And connected. Even in the life we have. In a busy life. Yeah. And I think it's okay to get to moments. So the question, to recap the question, we don't treat it as a scheduled activity. We don't treat it as a, very lightly. We don't treat sex like a transaction. Like we need to do this really quick. No. It's our sex, which is very fruitful. Okay. That's what you're right. Is based around not like we need to pleasure. like it's like it's really romantic and it's very connecting and listen it's not that way all the time you know sometimes we travel we are on a funny trip we are without the kids or we are somewhere and we just have a nice you know but but most likely is yeah what's next oh god

20:53This is really specific. I really like your work set up. Honestly, I do really like it. It's taken me, by the way, it was eight years. It's been eight years that we've been living in this house and for the first time in eight years i really like my desk and i really like our bedroom means a couple more things but we're on i would have only done different the only thing that i would have done it differently i would have put the desk facing the door and not facing the the wall but the mirror and the two windows on the side i think balance but oh chiro maria somebody asked you something really personal which is does he keep close ties with the Cuccinelli team.

21:35I remember he was the visuals guy. Absolutely. I'm more comfortable to answer to that than any question about bisexuality with my wife. Very close with that team. I, of course, own Brunello a lot, personally and professionally. Carolina Cuccinelli, I think, is one of the most talented, humble, intelligent and kind person I have met in my professional path. And we share the best. And every time we can, we feel home at their home. And I feel very fortunate. It's actually also, to articulate more, it really inspires me to be tomorrow, to do that to the people that will work with us. Did we go through a casual phase before making things official?

22:34Yeah. You and I? Oh, yeah, we practiced a lot. We had a lot of... It was never casual, but the rules were casual because... Our path wasn't a straight line. It wasn't a straight path. We really rollercoasted our... Spit it out. Our relation, our connection. But I think, to be honest, I think that's the only way. I think there is beauty in developing a relation and shaping it to the most solid form after being explored and exploring like all the forms a relation can have. I don't know if that makes sense. So I think first we had a lot of fun. First we were friends and... But there was always like a spark there.

23:23No, no, no friends as a friend. like we we enjoy time with each other we had a good time we were laughing we were like we explore all of that we had time where where where was very light with time where it was very meaningful with time when he was uh you know what's crazy we've broken up and had like a bad breakup and i've seen his dark side and it sucks we all have our demons i would say so you're in a room full of women why am I in a room full of women I don't know why are you in the room you put me in the room it's like some dumb thing we saw on the internet where this woman's asking her husband like okay so you're in a room full of women and you see it's like some that's my play very cool it's like so why am I in the room full of women it's like yeah why I'm in the room full of women you put me in there You put it.

24:22Someone asked, is one of us more anxious than the other when it comes to kids? I just, oh, to kids. Can I tell you guys something? I have zero anxiety around my kids. I thought they were talking in general. Yes, I want to be at the airport six hours before my departure. We have no anxiety around our children. We are never, that is, I mean this with love and I don't mean this to be judgmental. I don't know what happened to cause every parent to live with so much fear and anxiousness all the time. I don't think it's healthy for children. I don't think it's healthy for parents. And it does not cross my mind to be an anxious parent ever.

25:09When I see Carlo climb something, I watch him, I tell him to be careful. And by the way, we were at the park the other day and he was climbing something. And another mom was like, oh, your son's climbing the thing. And I was like, yeah, he's climbing the thing. She's like, it was really nice of her. And we had a full professional OT, occupational therapist with us there who works with Carmela, who was doing a session. And I was like, if he falls, he falls. He's going to fall like a foot and a half into the wood chips. And that's how he learns. And that's how he strengthens his body. Like, I'm not going to micromanage.

25:42I'll tell him from afar, like, put your foot up. Like, you got it. Like, hold on. okay, like use your body. You got this. Like be confident. Like I tell him that stuff. I'm not like, be careful, be careful, be careful. I'm like, use your body. If you fall, you fall. And the OT was like, no, this is like, if he falls, he falls. Like kids fall. So all the anxiousness that comes around parenting, I don't have, I have anxiousness, but I'm pregnant with the health of my child.

29:42I think it's fair to say that it's very easy for a parent and it took me a lot of maturity and it took me a lot of time to come to this conclusion and a lot of work on my mental end. I think it comes very easily for a person that becomes a parent to project and to transfer your own fear and complex. And I don't want to talk about trauma, but it's very easy. It's a high risk that you transfer that to your kids. And it's not bad. It's just natural. And I understand it today more than I could understand 10 years ago. I'm enjoying parenting. I love it. I'm very happy parenting. And I think that the only way to do it is trust in the process sort of thing.

30:41Either you make mistake or you succeed. Time will give answer. They will give you the answer. And I always say this. And today, by the way, it's Father's Day in Italy. And I would like to quote my father as a nomad. I remember very clearly asking him once, hey dad who taught you how to be a dad because my father didn't have a father and he gave me a very smart answer he said you guys you did it and a simple that answer was he really he made a lot of sense to me back then and it makes even more sense to me today so I just in general I've said this many times like I used to be a very anxious person and suffered from panic attacks and all these like, what ifs, like, what if something happens to my parents?

31:35And then like, my dad died. We like held him in this literally right where we're sitting. And then like, I'm still alive and I'm fine. It was a horrible, yes. Like, you know, my biggest anxiousness, like my only biggest fears are something happening to me and Davide together or separately. But honestly, like outside of that, I, you know, positive or bad thoughts, if they come in my brain, I replace them with positive thoughts and I keep it moving. Or I like, oh my God, one time we were on a plane. You're much better than me. I know. I mean, one time we were on a plane with both the kids and we had gotten food poisoning and we were flying back on a horrible, long fucking flight with Carmela had stopped throwing up.

32:19Carlo was five, but he was like not wanting to chill and Davide and I just felt like shit but we were like we have to get home and Davide looked at me and he was like I don't feel good I don't feel good I think I'm gonna have a panic attack I did have a panic attack I actually think I did by the way at this point I have had both kids on my lap for like an hour while he's like having a panic attack I looked at him and I said you don't have the bandwidth to have a fucking panic attack count back from a hundred and put on a fucking safe movie I need help with these games oh my god and then as soon as we got off the plane David was like you're better than me you know how to handle this better than me but that's just women are magical so we can do a lot more at one time than men can do men are magical you're magical I love you I think you're one of them I think you're one of them so much what red flags does david think women should look out for in men the biggest red flag to looking man is when he really tried hard to make you feel he has no red flag good one okay i love that okay this was lovely i have a call with my entire baroncini team in four minutes so i gotta wrap this up i'm a little bit you know i would like it to be more part of the the Baranchini team conversation, but like, I'm happy what I am as a creative director.

33:51This is all the, no, no, no. You, by the way, your role and my role in Baranchini is going to be gorgeous, light, fun, impactful, only creative. The call that I have right now is with finance people. Enjoy. And our lawyer when we have meetings that have, you know, other important things like products and product drops and you're going to need to get on a call with our ceramic guy with me in the next couple days because he doesn't speak English and my Italian is awful. Okay, love you, honey bunny. I can't wait to have a nice weekend with you. I'm really happy that you have had a really stressful two weeks.

34:33I would say it was more of a couple of months. It's been a stressful seven years. A couple of years, a couple of months, more than a couple of weeks. You deserve, you deserve to let loose and listening to some music and eat some good food. We are. And, you know, it's a busy trip after all. So I'm happy that we have the privilege to do that. Very cool. I love you. I love you so much. Thank you for having me. Thank you for coming. Anytime. Don't say anytime because I always have to switch the schedule around because you're too busy. But that doesn't mean that I don't want to come. No, I know you want to.

35:09You're just too busy. I love it. I enjoy it. I really do. Okay. That's great getting to know you more. is my pleasure.
