In short

Free agent frenzy and major NFL trades (recorded March 10) with fantasy football implications, focusing on how new landing spots change player value and backfield/target shares.

Guests

Hosts are Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright (Fantasy Footballers Podcast). No additional guests are described in the transcript.

Key claims

  • Kenneth Walker’s move to the Chiefs makes him a potential fantasy difference-maker due to Kansas City’s historically poor forced-missed-tackle metric and his forced-missed-tackle profile; Chiefs’ passing game should open up.
  • Malik Willis signing with the Dolphins is a high-risk/high-upside gamble given the contract size and Tua’s dead cap context; could be a fun late-round/dynasty target.
  • Several backfields become uncertain: Walker leaving Seattle, Bucky Irving’s situation affected by Buccaneers signing Kenneth Gainwell, and Steelers’ RB value impacted by Rico Dowdle signing.
  • Mike Evans to the 49ers should benefit younger/other Tampa targets by “clogging” fewer routes for Ibuka and others.

Notable examples

  • Chiefs sign Kenneth Walker (3 years, up to $45M; $28M guaranteed).
  • Dolphins sign Malik Willis (3 years, $67.5M).
  • Buccaneers sign Kenneth Gainwell (2 years, up to $14M; $10M guaranteed).
  • Cardinals sign Tyler Algier (2 years, $12.25M; $8M guaranteed).
  • Steelers sign Rico Dowdle (2 years, up to $12.25M).
  • 49ers sign Mike Evans (3 years, up to $42.4M; $16.3M guaranteed).
  • Colts extend Alec Pierce (4 years, $116M), while Michael Pittman is sent to Steelers (renegotiated deal mentioned).
  • Bills trade for DJ Moore (second-round pick; 2-5 swap).

1:04Jason Moore:Welcome to the Fantasy Footballers Podcast with your hosts, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright.

1:22Mike Wright:Welcome in.

1:33Mike Wright:Jay Grizz in the house, Sandy Holloway, Mike Wright, the Fantasy Footballers Podcast.

1:42Andy Holloway:someone has no shares of Kenneth Walker so they could not show up today oh I mean dude you and I are living large

1:51Mike Wright:we are living large the people are waiting if you've listened to this show for a long time you know that Ken Walker is kind of my guy I love it when fantasy forces you to believe because the year of Mike by the way continues we're doing all right it continues we're doing all right because uh i'm not dodging

2:13Andy Holloway:like i'm not invincible as uh we'll see i mean i don't know it could be the decade of mike my man trey benson is down bad guys that's true he's down bad uh i'd love i love it's not it's not perfect but the the white whale was landed so everything else doesn't feel as important

2:33Mike Wright:And poor Mike was in the middle of doing a guest pod yesterday when all the big news is breaking on free agency. By the way, this show is being recorded and released immediately. We were waiting as long as we possibly could because, you know, even when we're recording right now, even probably before you hear the show, there'll be more news or little signings and trades and things that are going on. But we wanted to give as much time as we can so we could come on here and react together and talk through all of these moves. But, yeah, Mike was on a guest pod, and, you know, right in the middle of the guest pod, we're finding out all this news about Kenneth Walker going to the Chiefs.

3:07Mike Wright:And then Mike comes in about an hour later after he's done, and he's got music playing on his phone. It's a little cool on the gang, man. It was celebration time. It was just, yeah, it was a special day. And I've got Kenneth Walker in our League of Record, who I picked up at the trade deadline from these two losers over here, Papa Josh and the Falcon. Oh, yeah. You're not a loser. Let me go. Let me do this. Not a loser. Loser, loser. That's what I, yeah, from right to left, the two on the left are the losers. But, yeah, you guys traded two. And I didn't think for a minute I might be keeping Kenneth Walker.

3:43Mike Wright:I do now think I might be keeping Kenneth Walker, the new starting running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, Mike. The MVP of the Super Bowl is now a Chief.

3:51Andy Holloway:The Walker is on an absolute heater right now. Life is good for him. Super Bowl MVP, big bag of money. And, I mean, staying with Seattle would probably be a pretty decent chance of getting some more Super Bowls the way that the team is currently built. But going to play with Mahomes, not bad. It has to be just, you know, it might even be a better situation if you're trying to chase Super Bowls. Like, they'll figure things out in Kansas City. And as much as I am on the team of your running backs really don't matter. There's so very few difference-making running backs in the league.

4:34Mike Wright:Yeah, CMC, Gibbs, Bichon, Saquon.

4:36Andy Holloway:And I think Walker can be one of those guys because of his ability. I think he was number one again in forced missed tackles. Shoot, someone put it up. Can't remember who it was, but there was a stat showing. number of Kenneth Walker 15-yard runs in the last two years versus the Chiefs. Running backs in totality, and it was like three for Kansas City.

5:00Mike Wright:No, they really haven't had a weapon at that position since Kareem Hunt.

5:03Andy Holloway:I think it has been part of the problem for Kansas City.

5:08Mike Wright:Yeah, Kansas City had one 20-yard run last year. Walker had 10 all by himself. When teams have to focus on what Mahomes is capable of doing, and they brought back Travis Kelsey and they'll make more moves. Who knows? Maybe Tyree Kale returns. But, you know, you just open up so much for the running game, especially if you're capable of catching the football. I think Kenneth Walker is capable of it. It opens up the pass.

5:30Andy Holloway:That's what I think is such a big deal about this is what the Chiefs had at the running back position, no one had any concern in the world about having to, you know, like, oh, we've got to pick a play here and we're going to have to sell out to stop the run. No, they were not concerned.

5:47Mike Wright:The rubber's going to meet the road when it comes to the health of Kenneth Walker, too, because we've talked about part of this success. You know, Sharbs, as annoying as he is, and I saw the memes going out immediately that the Chiefs signed Charbonnet instantly. But as annoying as Sharbs was, Kenneth Walker had one of his healthier seasons of all time. It made him ready for the playoff run. He obviously was great there. No, but I was thinking yesterday, there are two players. Like, Kenneth Walker, things have broke really well for him. and then because I mean you win a Super Bowl you're the MVP and then you get a bag of money but the other one I was thinking of is Rashid Shahid because sure Rashid Shahid goes from one of the worst teams in football with the Saints he gets to go to Seattle win a Super Bowl and now he signs an extension and gets a bag of money not the only player we'll be talking about today it's full free agent frenzy episode of the show thank you for joining Mike and I Tuesday March 10th ultimate draft kit.com.

6:46Mike Wright:The post combine update is available. Now the dynasty pass is available. Now go check that out. And the community is joined the foot.com. We appreciate each and every member of the foot clan supporting this independent podcast going into year 11, 12, something like 12. Are we at the point where we forget how many years?

7:05Andy Holloway:I mean, the, the, the, the 10 year anniversary Megal show was two years ago.

7:11Mike Wright:Yeah, you're right. You're right. So 10 plus two, equals something around 12. But yeah, big show today. Appreciate you joining us. Let's jump right in.

7:24Jason Moore:Free agent frenzy.

7:29Mike Wright:So we will circle back to that move, the Ken Walker move and some of the implications. They're good. But let's start with the first bit of news or one of the first deals that we heard about yesterday. It's not Arizona, and that might be good. I don't know. The Dolphins signed Malik Willis to a three-year deal worth$67.5 million.

7:51Andy Holloway:Jason got this one in his predictions. I thought the Dolphins would not be able to find the money after, you know, they hadn't cut Tua at that time. We knew it was just a matter of win.

8:02Mike Wright:You mean the$99 million in dead money that they have to absorb letting Tua Tungavailoa go?

8:07Andy Holloway:That is what I am referring to. and giving a 27-year-old Malik Willis$45 million guaranteed. The truth is, if it works, this is a great quarterback contract.

8:23Mike Wright:There's two types of working on this show, though, Mike. There's the working for the team and the working for the fantasy team. Oh, it's going to be solid. And that one should be pretty good.

8:32Andy Holloway:It should be solid for fantasy. I'm looking on our profile right now. Malik Willis, four years in the league. We are at six starts. Six starts. Yeah, yeah. So, again, it could work. Malik Willis in the limited action has looked great. He has. But we have seen backups come in who will start one or two games in a season, and all of a sudden you're like, well, that guy should be a starter. Mike Glennon is one of them. I think it happens more of a backup looking like in one to two starts they should be a starter than the other way around. But the contract could be okay. But with all that dead cap, putting all the chips in the basket of Malik Willis, I think it is an intestinal fortitude move.

9:30Andy Holloway:I'll say that.

9:32Mike Wright:it it was something i thought i thought arizona was going to make the splash for malik willis kurt warner went on uh i don't know what podcast it was but he was talking about like he he watched the last two years of malik willis and there were 28 so the green bay years uh yeah there were 28 total plays in which he had to basically play quarterback so you're not talking about design runs you're not talking about little screen passes that any quarterback in the nfl can make you're talking about i sit back there read a defense make a throw so he didn't say it was bad like the 28 wasn't there were some good there were some bad he just said like that's what you're evaluating 45 million guaranteed on is 28 basic drop backs to make a decision on malik willis now i really i'm not going to change my tune just because he goes to miami instead of arizona i believe that malik willis will be successful i think he's a good player i think i think the what he brings to the running game is going to be amazing not just for fantasy but just for that team but yeah it's impossible to say it's not a risk it's impossible not to say that there isn't some unknown with jaylen waddle and what he's going to be able to do in that offense devon a chan in that offense like we are we're entering a brand new head coaching era for miami part of the connection there their uh new head coach is the former um you know they have two two different connections to green bay so they have familiarity with malik willis but you know it's going to be one of those things that you're like Malik is a gamble right like he's gonna get drafted probably um Malik will

10:59Andy Holloway:be a fun late round target in single quarterback leagues and if you're you know we're in dynasty season if you have Waddle or Achan on it it could have gone bad could have gone much worse it could have gone horrifically bad here so I I think you can at least have optimism and you don't have to just go all the way into the season just quaking in the boots.

11:25Mike Wright:Quinn Ewers fans are... Oh. Quinn Ewers sports cards holder is not happy at the moment. Yeah. Rushing totals in his three stars last year, 41, 73, and 60.

11:36Andy Holloway:Yeah.

11:37Mike Wright:I mean, that's a lot. And Tua Tungabailoa ends up leaving Miami. He'll get paid, and now he's got a one-year deal being the second lefty in Atlanta. I know Kyle is so excited about all the amazing Atlanta signings yesterday. Atlanta and Arizona. Oh, God. Just.

11:56Andy Holloway:Handshake. Just dominating the free agency period. If your goal is to be bad.

12:04Mike Wright:It's so embarrassing. It's so, for both teams, the signings have just not been. I mean, they needed someone. Maybe things work out, but.

12:14Andy Holloway:They needed someone with Penix already looking very shaky as a potential franchise guy. Hurt yet again. Will he be ready to start the year? They had to do something. So I don't blame the Falcons for going for it. You're going to get him, what, super cheap?

12:34Mike Wright:Would you rather have had Minshew, like the Cardinals sign, or Tua for your backup?

12:44Andy Holloway:I think Tua. I'll take Tua. Probably.

Read the full transcript

12:46Mike Wright:Probably.

12:48Andy Holloway:Kyle says, low risk, no reward.

12:52Mike Wright:Oh, that's the move? It's a classic low risk and no reward move? That's a good line, Kyle. I mean, it's like if you have to see Tua play, something bad has happened to Penix. He's either played poorly.

13:03Andy Holloway:I like to imagine the GM was like, we got to get the lefty. I know. We can't flip the offense. It's impossible. The ball must spiral the same way. It's like when your quarterback is a mobile running quarterback. It's like the Ravens. Oh, yeah. You got Lamar. Okay, well, we want to go to Huntley. He's also athletic and can sort of duplicate what Lamar is able to do. And they're just applying that to left-handedness.

13:31Mike Wright:It's amazing. All right, we did talk about it. Ken Walker, three-year deal. Let's get into the details. The Chiefs signed Ken Walker, three-year deal worth up to$45 million. $28 million guaranteed. Nice. He's just 25 years old. He was number one in forced missed tackle rate. Kansas City was dead last in that stat last year. Two years in a row, Kyle?

13:53Andy Holloway:Walker was extremely high in that stat two years ago as well.

13:58Mike Wright:So now the question becomes, Mike, for this show, where does Kenneth Walker go in fantasy football? Because there are players like Buck Yirving, who they signed Kenneth Gainwell.

14:12Andy Holloway:Yeah, give me Walker.

14:13Mike Wright:There are players like the incredible Chase Brown after last year's run. That one's tough. Derrick Henry, a year older, in Baltimore.

14:26Andy Holloway:And they lost their center.

14:27Mike Wright:They lost Lindenbaum.

14:29Andy Holloway:Yeah, that's a devastating blow to that line. That's huge.

14:32Mike Wright:I mean, he's getting paid more money than all the other centers by a lot. Josh Jacobs or Ken Walker?

14:39Andy Holloway:I see it's one of those things people are going to be very excited for Kenneth Walker because so just to zoom out real quick this is awesome like on paper this is so incredible a truly dynamic running back like you said number one enforced missed tackle rate last year Kansas City if their running backs dead last in that advanced metric of in like the one truly like what the big thing you need for your running back is I need a guy who can actually make something happen on his own not just get what's there make something happen he Walker he probably jumps into the late first based off of the hope and the dreams of how just how awesome the player was into the situation I don't know it's going to be risky business but he will be like between Walker Chase Brown Jacobs I think those are really difficult questions to answer right now I feel

15:45Mike Wright:like the hype for Walker like there there could be a plan in Kansas City to not like we all want Super Bell Cow.

15:54Andy Holloway:I don't think you're going to get that. I don't think you're going to get that. No.

15:58Mike Wright:And whether they bring back Kareem Hunt or something to be, I mean, that's best case to me for the Chiefs backfield is not bringing in another younger, able-bodied running back.

16:10Andy Holloway:You need, you need. But someone like Kareem Hunt. Someone coming. The problem with Kareem Hunt is like. Goal line. Yeah. Yeah. We, we need to know.

16:19Mike Wright:So they have, they have Rashard Smith still too.

16:20Andy Holloway:We need to know that walk. Yeah, Smith is not a competition for the high value. We need the receiving. We need the goal line work. We need to know for sure that that's locked in.

16:30Mike Wright:The triple threat of super running back. He carries the receiving and the goal line.

16:34Andy Holloway:It is very, very exciting. If you have him in Dynasty, like me, I mean, that's just part of it. But I mean, seriously, I went back into my Dynasty startup rankings, and you're like, you have to move. You've got to move Walker up. He's 25.

16:56Mike Wright:He's on the Chiefs. It seems like he probably took less money, too, to go to Kansas City. Because Travis Etienne signed a four-year deal worth$52 million. I mean, that's more money than Walker got.

17:08Andy Holloway:We still haven't seen the guaranteed money on Etienne. So, I mean, total value is potentially higher for Etienne. but you know, I mean, that's, it's not a huge difference of$7 million. Yes. That's, it's, it's a lot. I get that, but I'm saying he's two years older. It was a little surprising. You like the saints had to, you know, you have, we talk about the loser tax. When you go to the saints, you should at least be believing that you're not really going to have a chance at a playoff run this year. It's not impossible, but your odds are against you. Maybe two years from now you'll make a run and so it's like can you actually win a super bowl if that's your goal where it's a much higher odds with the chiefs and you take just a little bit a little bit lighter on the money i don't blame walker for doing it so the saints made a big

18:00Mike Wright:splash travis etienne ends up in new orleans four-year deal 52 million no guaranteed money that we've figured out yet uh in terms of the numbers but we'll get that 27 years old year six of the nfl earlier in the week the saints and converted they had converted 10 million dollars of Alvin Kamara's salary into a signing bonus. Cleared a bunch of money. Multiple reports from beat writers saying this may clear the way for Alvin Kamara's retirement. Do I understand how that all works? No, but, I mean, this is like a legendary New Orleans Saint player, Alvin Kamara.

18:31Andy Holloway:And at least last year he was the one saying, don't trade me.

18:35Mike Wright:Yeah, I feel like he was setting the table for the sunset. And for them to go out and spend this kind of money at running back, to me. I don't think Kamara necessarily wants to play that secondary role. Maybe that's what he'll accept for a year and being a leader in the clubhouse, so to speak.

18:55Andy Holloway:Kamara's advanced numbers were horrifically bad.

18:58Mike Wright:No, and he was banged up again. I mean, we get Kendra Miller back out there. He got hurt again. So this will be Travis Etienne, Tyler Shuck, Chris Olave. Kind of exciting.

19:09Andy Holloway:Yeah, it's an exciting young team. Well, I mean, Shuck's kind of old.

19:17Mike Wright:Can ETN finish as a running back one again in New Orleans?

19:22Andy Holloway:It's in the range of outcomes. You still have the Kellen Moore offense, high pace. We'll get a lot of receptions for Travis ETN as well. I think it's possible. It's just will they score enough on the ground?

19:40Mike Wright:and then the the you can't miss this part of all these deals right um ken walker obviously leaving seattle their backfield is now completely in flux charbonnet is coming off a major injury they they're gonna they got it covered man well there's rumors this morning about rashad white to to seattle so mike finds this very funny dude because rashad white and sharbs on the that's

20:05Andy Holloway:your backfield?

20:07Mike Wright:One yard of carries. Well, we'll see. We'll see what they do. They're trying to defend the title, but the big move here.

20:14Andy Holloway:That will be the real wake-up moment of like,

20:18Mike Wright:oh, I guess Walker was really

20:19Andy Holloway:good.

20:20Mike Wright:Yeah, it could be. Or they could make a splash. We'll see. But ETN leaving Jacksonville is huge. Oh, man. I mean, Bashaw Tootin.

20:28Andy Holloway:Yeah. That's Jason's bit. That's Jason's bit.

20:31Mike Wright:No, and he's not here. But Bashaw Tootin right now, Sky's the limit. He's a great offense. Yeah, it's very exciting for him. I mean, Etienne was a super surprise last year in terms of how fantasy-relevant he ended up being under Liam Cohen after a down year. So, you know, Tootin was fifth in rush success rate and 11th in forced missed tackle rate among 55. 55! Running back. So, you know, going into his sophomore year, that's exciting.

21:02Andy Holloway:And Etienne will, I mean, with him gone, that vacates. He had 52 targets last year. If you're telling me Tootin gets the majority of those, it'll be very, very fun. And the Cohen system, it seems to be, it might be one up there with McVay and the Shanahan system. It's going to work.

21:26Mike Wright:I mean, you have to look at last year, even with Bucky Irving. I know he was hurt. But Bucky Irving's success with Liam Cohen the year before? Compared to his success last year, Mike? Right. Let's take a break. We'll talk about some more moves.

21:44Mike Wright:What's up, Foot Clan? You are confident and disciplined and focused on details, just like everyone here at the Fancy Footballers, right? Those are words you'd use to describe us. 23:14Mike Wright:All right, we're back into the free agent frenzy here on a Tuesday morning. The Buccaneers signed Kenneth Gainwell, who was a revelation for Pittsburgh last year. Two-year deal worth up to 14 million 10 million guaranteed it's not a crazy deal he's 27 years old or about to be and this was the leading wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers last year at the running

23:37Andy Holloway:back spot this it this one's a this one's a blow to to Bucky because I you know I just shared my thoughts on Rashad White he was not a threat you know Sean Tucker is just this imaginary nebulous being that the Buccaneers never actually cared for. You'd see him flash on the field, but then they would never give him work. They didn't tender him. And Kenneth Gainwell is a true

24:10Andy Holloway:player who can take away from Bucky Irving and duplicate what Bucky Irving does on the field. Not as good as Bucky, but you're getting 85 % of Bucky. That's someone who should get touches.

24:23Mike Wright:The thing about Kenneth Gainwell that I think we've seen throughout his career is he forces his way on the field, whether you believe he should be or not. There was a point of time, middle of the offseason, Jason could not handle the inference, the suggestion, that Kenneth Gainwell could take away from Caleb Johnson. There was not a pot. In a case, he's not here to say nothing. But I remember the conversation. It was like, hey, buddy, people like Kenneth Gainwell. I mean, great teammate, great player, versatile, does the little stuff that you don't see in the fantasy football stat sheet but teams love.

25:07Mike Wright:Now, I've seen a lot of people say, what are you talking about? Bucky is fine. Bucky's everything. And Bucky will be. He'll be okay. His ceiling's down. But I think the question that you have to ask yourself, is Kenneth Ganwell a better player than Rashad White?

25:21Andy Holloway:Yes.

25:22Mike Wright:That's enough. You know what I mean?

25:24Andy Holloway:And that's not a, well, you know, in my opinion, no. He's better. Yeah. He's more versatile. He's a better athlete.

25:35Mike Wright:Yeah, I agree. He'll get you more than two and a half yards on the ground. I don't know if the team, and I don't know all the details of what went on with Bucky Irving's absence. It clearly wasn't all recovery from a physical injury last year. The vibes were weird. Well, I mean, I think there were some mental health things going on, and they were dealing with that. But from a reliability standpoint, that puts things in flux, and Kenneth Gainwell is a stabilizer, so they bring him in. The Cardinals. Oh, the Cardinals. Oh, they reworked James Connors' contract, right? Yeah. And then they said, what if we made two of you?

26:11Mike Wright:The Cardinals signed Tyler Algier to a two-year deal worth$12.25 million, dollars eight million guaranteed um 25 years old i i hate this just because of trey benson

26:24Andy Holloway:like algier is good algier with the money i mean the james connor had to take less money just to make sure he kept a job and to be on the team and then you go day one and sign tyler algier i know it's it's not as you know it's not the high profile money that the other guys are making but Algier is a good player and 8 million guaranteed is enough that I will project that he will end up being it'll be him and Connor and then Trey Benson is just cooked yeah yep

26:59Mike Wright:I mean this is the this is the we don't even find out if it can fly no this is the we don't believe in you at all um this isn't pushing you out of the nest so that you can fly this is so you land on the ground and the animals eat you. I mean, Algier and Connor are workhorses. I think that's the headline. Like, these are not guys that need plays off. If they get it going, they're not going to turn to Trey Benson. And they wanted Connor back enough to rework the contract. Connor keeps the job, like you said. I mean, Algier himself had seven red zone touchdowns last year. The Cardinals had six total.

27:39Mike Wright:Algier is a pretty good player. yes he is it's not a flashy signing i thought arizona would not rework the contract of connor and would sign etn instead they brought connor back and they spent less money on algier um but i i don't think it's going to be a very fun fantasy situation no and by the way they they basically have come out and said just if we want to get into arizona which nobody does but you should kind of in fantasy because michael wilson was crazy and trey mcbride and they basically come out and said jacoby brissette's our starter they signed Gardner Minshew and Mike Mike Mike's like why would you sign Gardner Minshew are you getting rid of Brissette as your backup little did you know Brissette was the starter in that situation and Minshew becomes the backup so it's weird because the Cardinals are going to be awful this is a tank tank tank move they were one and nine with Brissette I think maybe oh and nine I don't even remember but Michael Wilson was insane with Jacoby Brissette Tray McBride set the world on fire with Jacoby Brissett.

28:36Andy Holloway:I will remind people there was an astronomically high pass rate as they could not run the ball at all. You know, Connor went out early. Trey Benson went out in week four, and then they were rocking Demarcato and Michael Carter and Bam Knight. That was the trio. That was getting absolutely nothing done. Algier and James Connor is a much, much better tandem than anything that they had last year for the majority of the year. So I don't think the pass rate will be anywhere near what it was. But we know how Jacoby plays, and we know how he plays with these guys. So you can keep your optimism and still, you know, pretty much wherever you were going to draft Arizona Cardinals, you just kind of leave it there.

29:24Mike Wright:The Broncos re-signed J.K. Dobbins to a two-year deal worth$20 million. I think all three of us got this one. Dobbins back to Denver. Do you remember in the –

29:34Andy Holloway:I don't remember if we actually predicted this one. I think we had all said it was going to be Denver.

29:40Mike Wright:I think we predicted Dobbins.

29:42Andy Holloway:It seemed the easiest one. That one and Wandale were like the lowest hanging fruit.

29:49Mike Wright:Oh, no, me and you got it. Jason missed it. I think that puts me in the lead then. Because Jason got the Miami Malik one. That was big. I got the Evans 49ers. Right. But I didn't realize Jason had switched it up with Dobbins. So Kyle's words, not mine. What a loser. Yes. Speaking of Jason Moore.

30:11Andy Holloway:And the word out of Denver is the Broncos will also draft someone.

30:21Mike Wright:That means that the word out of Denver, ipso facto, we screwed up with RJ Harvey.

30:26Andy Holloway:They drafted him too high, and Harvey is a good athlete. Seems like a good pass catcher. He's a good pass catching running back, but at least through one year they're saying, no, you cannot be the guy. Depending on where they draft a running back, I don't imagine it'll be anything crazy. Like probably just a day three, get some depth in there. I will be drafting Dobbins ahead of R.J. Harvey. Just touchdowns? Dobbins was awesome. Yeah. last year. Yeah, he was. Dobbins will probably have another injury because, I mean, if you want to label anyone injury-prone in the NFL, J.K. Dobbins is – He earned it.

31:08Andy Holloway:Yeah. His body does not like the game of football, but he is a very, very good football player.

31:16Mike Wright:Gainwell got more guaranteed than Algier or Dobbins. Dobbins and Algier both got$8 million guaranteed. The deal's worth more for Dobbins long-term. Had the foot injury two months on IR. I think he was pretty close to getting back, wasn't he? If they had moved on, I think there were some rumors about him getting back out on the field.

31:35But, yeah.

31:37Mike Wright:So, J.K. Dobbins. Look, that's another situation that I think is going to be really murky. Because they'll use a committee. They're searching for jokers everywhere. Joker, Joker, Joker, Joker, Joker, Joker. Keep searching.

31:48Andy Holloway:Between Harvey and Dobbins, the much better runner. between tackles, just the pure running back stuff. That's Dobbins. I imagine people will be in on Harvey, and they're going to hope that the second round pick can really take the leap. I will be probably on the other side.

32:10Mike Wright:Well, there was a 15-minute period of time in which it seemed like the departure of Kenneth Gainwell may open up the door for Caleb Johnson. Yeah. Nope. Doors closed. The Steelers have signed Rico Dowdle. Yes. Two-year deal worth up to$12.25 million.

32:30Andy Holloway:Yes.

32:31Mike Wright:So now, what is it, Warren Dowdle, Caleb on the bench? Caleb Johnson, go hang out with Trey Benson. Go get some fro-yo.

32:40Andy Holloway:Yeah. What could have been?

32:43Mike Wright:They won't notice you gone.

32:44Andy Holloway:Rico Dowdle is back with Mike McCarthy, which the first time Mike McCarthy was pretty frustrating at the beginning of the year, refusing to turn it over to Rico Dowdle as they just watched Zeke be a mere shell of himself.

33:00Mike Wright:It's the same situation.

33:01Andy Holloway:Only to have Rico Dowdle then take the job over the second half and become a thousand-yard rusher.

33:06Mike Wright:Why did he go there then? He must be okay with what happened.

33:09Andy Holloway:The Steelers situation is going to be – this one's difficult because Jalen Warren was great to start last year. He misses some time, and they figure out how to use Kenneth Gainwell better in the offense. Is Rico better than Warren? On the ground, yes. And Rico Dettel is actually – What about in the sky? Rico's not bad through the air. This is a really tough situation to figure out who's going to truly have

33:39Mike Wright:the value feels like some cold water for the jalen warren managers oh yeah yeah if i have

33:45Andy Holloway:worn on my dynasty team i'm upset about this yeah yeah so and i and if you have rico just the complete opposite this is a this is a situation where he can come in and take the job which we

33:58Mike Wright:weren't sure he would get that chance at least he's he must look at it like i can do that yeah over and over again he has to look at those situations dallas he had to work on it yep Carolina had to work on it. All right. The 49ers. This is a big one. They signed Mike Evans to a three-year deal. 16.3 guarantee. That's not a ton. The deal can be worth up to$42.4 million.

34:26Andy Holloway:Yeah, but structurally, if you're telling me it's a three-year deal worth 42, but it includes 16 million, that's a one-year deal.

34:35Mike Wright:Yes. Yeah, this was the word for his camp. And then they'll reevaluate. was that he loved it in Tampa Bay, was ready for a new challenge to close his career.

34:43Andy Holloway:That was Mike Evans saying Tampa Bay is not a contender next year, in his opinion.

34:48Mike Wright:That's what you think?

34:49Andy Holloway:Yeah.

34:49Mike Wright:I don't think so. I take him at his – I actually believe the statement, and it wasn't just that. There was a second part of the statement that talked about how much confidence he has in the other dudes in that room. He talked about Abuka, McMillan, Godwin. The offense. Well, I just mean like I think he looks at that situation and he wants to see those other guys succeed. I really do. And with him on the field, they have a clogged up. Like, this is great for Ibuka.

35:15Andy Holloway:Yes.

35:16Mike Wright:Like, super great. Godwin is good. Godwin may be the wide receiver that you prefer to Ibuka. We'll have that debate for six months. But at least Godwin is on the way out, and Ibuka's on the way up, and McMillan's a very talented player. And don't forget Taz Johnson's involved in that offense. So there are moves in the offseason that just work for everybody. Now, this doesn't work for Ricky Pearsall because I think Ricky Pearsall is never going to materialize into a dominator, but maybe. We'll see. Evans is old.

35:47Andy Holloway:We haven't heard yet on Juwan Jennings. We haven't heard yet on Romeo Dobbs, which there's been a lot of Romeo Dobbs to San Francisco smoke. I mean, not saying with Mike Evans there that if they sign Romeo Dobbs, Dobbs is going to come be the superstar. But if they bring those two guys in, if you're talking about Ricky Pearsall, it's a condemnation for sure. If you're like, we've got to go with two free agents because Ricky Pearsall, we don't think you can be reliably our number one guy.

36:22Mike Wright:John Jennings is still a free agent, and Kendrick Bourne ended up signing with the Arizona Cardinals. Enjoy your money. Gosh, that's 26 % of their targets vacated. but yeah I mean overall this is what I wanted to see happen I wanted to see him leave Tampa Bay because I want to see what can happen with those other wide receivers in Tampa Bay and he missed extended time last year he didn't play a lot of football had the hamstring issue, the jokes about the substations have already begun his hamstring versus the substation I think it might be his hamstring versus father time because that is going to stack up

37:03Andy Holloway:McCaffrey needs more blood to siphon? yes fresh meat we need he hasn't tapped in

37:11Mike Wright:to Mike Evans yet yeah yeah Colts big move one of the first ones of the day Alec Pierce four year deal 116 million to stay in Indianapolis imagine this deal two years ago oh mama like if we just said this is what's gonna happen in two years you know what I see

37:29Andy Holloway:in two years Alec Pierce getting 84.

37:33Mike Wright:Alec Pearson, Alec Pierce being the bell of the ball of the offseason. Yeah. Which, by the way, like New England apparently offered him more money. And he ends up being the highest paid free agent in history. The cap is through the roof now. It's 300 million, 308 million dollars. Alec Pearson was objectively impressive on almost every snap he took last year. He earned the money. But the Colts immediately sent Michael Pittman out the door and alec pierce is truly their number one receiver i mean that is that is a big transformation pitman goes to pitman goes to pity city michael pitman is now michael pit man because he's a pittsburgh stealer so we'll talk about that and the implications but let's let's talk about alec pierce first um they're gonna try to bring daniel jones back he's on the transition tag Alec Pierce and Daniel Jones had a great rapport he's a big play receiver which you love to see it I mean where does that put Pierce in like does that change his entire structure in your mind in terms of the kind of player he is he's a number one now for Indianapolis I don't see Alec Pierce

38:44Andy Holloway:making a huge jump so last year he did miss two games ends up as the wide receiver 23 and, of course, over those later weeks of the season that was no Daniel Jones, even though Alec Pierce, week 16, was able to put up 22 points, and week 18 against Houston to put up 27. It's on the season as a whole an 18 % target share.

39:13Mike Wright:That's going to change.

39:14Andy Holloway:It has to. That's going to change fundamentally. It has to.

39:17Mike Wright:The money plus the departure of Pittman, I think is unquestionably going to be, like I would put him at, I'll probably project him around 110, 115 targets.

39:28Andy Holloway:Okay. It's the utilization of him. He has, in his career, 41 receptions, 32, 37, 47. Those are not the numbers that you need to be a really reliable, high-end, top 12 type of a fantasy starter. show me the numbers on the contract again those are the numbers that are going to persuade me that

39:54Mike Wright:this was a a decision by the team to say out with the old in with the new we're going to keep the young stud that we believe can be a true number one now i he's never gonna he's gonna profile more like the mike evans type of career numbers to me like evans was not a perennial 100 catch guy right in tampa bay because the yards per cat i mean evans in tampa bay premier years finishing as a top 12 fantasy receiver. 67, 70, 74, 86, 71. He had 196 catch season. Mostly he's in the 70s. His average per year, Evans, Hall of Fame career, 72.2 catches per year. You get Pierce into the 70s

40:33Andy Holloway:and that's far better.

40:35Mike Wright:Yeah, I'm not expecting him to transform into Jefferson. He's got a type. They have Tyler Warren for intermediate receptions. They have Josh Downs. so um yeah i mean it's a big move and he didn't he didn't leave they didn't let him go and then michael pitman goes to the steelers for almost nothing i think losing the contract well they signed him to a new contract three years 59 million dollars oh really i had missed that

41:04Andy Holloway:you didn't see that they they renegotiated oh good good for good because pitman is good Michael Pittman is a good wide receiver. I was hoping this wasn't just casting him to the aisle of misfit toys.

41:18Mike Wright:No, I think that Pittman is a good wide receiver. I would call him solid in terms of they needed another guy. DK could not carry the load at all. Some people are like, well, I'm going to take Pittman ahead of DK now. That's not me. I'd be taking DK ahead of Pittman still. I think I will take neither. Neither is an option. It might be Kirk Cousins. Is it Will Howard time? It might be Kirk Cousins. Did you not see this this morning? Oh, no. Mike just threw up in his mouth.

41:50Andy Holloway:They're going to go from Rodgers to Cousins?

41:53Mike Wright:That's the talk. The talk is to move from one veteran. If Rodgers doesn't come back, move on to Cousins. One-year deal with Cousins. No. No. Oh, Pittsburgh, I'm sorry. I didn't like Mike sitting in it and relaxing. oh man um you'll never draft dk again no no all right we'll take a break you're telling me it's kurt cousins yeah i mean it's just a rumor mike oh i did i would go well how else i would go will

42:23Andy Holloway:howard if i'm the steelers i would go will howard too just i mean what they uh third round was that what will howard was i believe he was a third round pick i mean to take a quarterback in the third and then be like, no, we're going to turn it over to old beat-up cousins. Just let Will Howard go. It would be very Mike McCarthy. Oh, Howard was a six-rounder? We're way off. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

42:50Mike Wright:Never mind. Bring in cousins. All right, we got more to talk about. Really? He was a six? We'll be right back. Sorry, Will.

43:00Mike Wright:All right, Foot Clan, whether you are on the go or at home, T-Mobile, Well, they're built to keep you connected wherever you're scouting your fantasy team. And that on-the-go part, that is important. With America's Best Network, you'll be connected to the latest news and player projections. So when you're on the clock, you can draft a winning team. I can think of so many situations where that element of being connected while you're on the go is fundamental to fantasy football success. I'm in the midst of multiple leagues right now where I am responding to trade offers. We are massaging the trade offer.

43:30Mike Wright:We want to make sure that I'm the one that gets the player, not another player manager in our league. So trade offers when you're on the go, all the news that's breaking so you don't make a mistake. And my favorite thing, maybe I'll mention it. Look, you're sitting and you have a quiet moment somewhere out and about. You want to jump in the UDK. We've got the player profiles. You can watch all of those in there with T-Mobile. You can jump in on the player projections and our stat projections and all the 130 ,000 words of content. Again, T-Mobile making that easy to do. Every bit of news. Things are changing all the time.

44:03Mike Wright:New player contracts, all that good stuff. So from off-season to game day, every play is better with T-Mobile. What you got to do is visit T-Mobile.com slash network. 44:29Jason Moore:If you're an NFL fan, ESPN is where you need to be this season. It's the biggest lineup they've ever put together. Monday Night Football, every week, every game on NFL Network. Now also available with an ESPN Unlimited plan. And for the first time ever, Super Bowl 61. on marquee matchups, MVP quarterbacks, international games, the whole season start to finish. Football's on ESPN.

45:00Mike Wright:Did we not talk about the Bills trading for DJ Moore yet? I thought we talked about it on the show. I don't know. Let's talk about it again. All the shows blend together.

45:13Andy Holloway:Oh, yeah.

45:15Mike Wright:I was like, what does this have to do with the Bills? I did think he just randomly hit it, but yeah, the Bears got a second-round pick. DJ Moore goes to Buffalo. It's one of those moves that makes sense for everybody. Especially the Bears. Yeah, I mean, especially the Bears because the Bears weren't using him. This move works for the Bears. This move works for DJ Moore. This move works for Buffalo. DJ Moore is maybe not as good anymore as we think he might be. I don't know why he was the screen merchant and that's it and the backfield guy. But you wanted Odunze to have runway. You want Luther Burden to have runway.

45:53Mike Wright:Oh, yeah.

45:55Andy Holloway:I'm saying for the Bills.

45:57Mike Wright:I think this might have broke while we were on the foot cast. That might have been what I was thinking about.

46:02Andy Holloway:But the Bills traded a second. They did a 2-5 swap to get D.J. Moore.

46:08Mike Wright:That's a big trade.

46:09Andy Holloway:The Pittsburgh Steelers did a 7-6 swap to get Michael Pittman.

46:14Mike Wright:That would have been better for them. If you just put in the second, let's say they drafted one of the best available of a good wide receiver class, the best available wide receiver in the second round, and Pittman. I'd rather have those two players than DJ Moore. He played with Joe Brady in Carolina. There was familiarity there. Loveland, Burden, Odunze. That's what I'm most excited about. I'm also most excited just to have more weapons of any kind. they released uh for for josh allen they released carter samuel i think yeah um i don't know it kind of works for everybody that the price was a lot expensive sometimes you got to overpay it happens yeah yeah i mean and uh yeah the the bears they got a trifecta of youngsters

47:01Andy Holloway:oh man the bears that that offense is that's exciting they're so please stay goodish caleb okay we need no no please get please regularly good yes please improve that accuracy that won't

47:18Mike Wright:let's go out it let's go up jay grizz wants to see it we got this one right it wasn't hard to do but the titans signed wandel robinson to a four-year deal my favorite comment about the titans was that dable is now acquiring the players that got him fired in new york yeah but wandel's a great player they didn't really have a receiver in Tennessee. That's the essence of what I think, you know, people don't realize it. I'm in on Cam Ward. I do believe in Cam Ward. I always kind of have. The end of the year was needed. Ten touchdowns. It was needed. One interception over the last ten games. And that was, again, you didn't have weapons for him.

47:57Mike Wright:Calvin Ridley wasn't around. Those other youngsters, you know, Chimray DK, good player. Versatile, gadget, special teams. um i o manor good player solid player probably not meant to be your one by any stretch so wandel comes in he just gets it done he's a productive receiver yeah 92 for over a thousand

48:19Andy Holloway:only four touchdowns last year and he should with his 38 million guaranteed he should walk right in to be a 20, 25 plus percent of the targets. So if you do believe in Cam Ward, Wandale will be a very interesting target.

48:39Mike Wright:Yeah, Wandale had four top 12 finishes last year, which was more than Sutton, more than T. Higgins. So I don't know if you can get the kind of targets you'd hope for with Cam Ward in Tennessee, but maybe. I mean, he's coming off of 30%.

48:56Andy Holloway:Is there a world where Wandale is undervalued

48:59Mike Wright:in fantasy?

48:59Andy Holloway:Yes.

49:00Mike Wright:Okay.

49:01Andy Holloway:Because the Titans have that stank on them.

49:05Mike Wright:The Seahawks re-signed Rasheed Shahid. I mentioned it earlier in the show. Three-year deal worth up to$51 million. He is one of those players that I don't know if it's ever going to translate into fantasy as well as it does in real life. I feel like he is such a dynamic, great player. But I don't know if fantasy consistency is what you're going to see from Rasheed Shahid at any point in Seattle. You're going to get Torrey Horton back. You've already got JSN who's going to... JSN seeing that contract that Alec Pierce got? Put a down payment on a Scrooge vault. You can pre-buy the Scrooge McDuck vaults and he bought two of them.

49:42Mike Wright:Yeah, he's going to break it open. So will Puka, by the way.

49:48Andy Holloway:So Rashid Shahid gets traded to Seattle and I'm seeing one, two, three, four, five, six. Six games of eight or fewer yards. I mean, it was weird that it never got going. Maybe we'll have it with the entire offseason and having the established roles that it'll be better for Shahid.

50:15Mike Wright:Okay, the Raiders have signed Jalen Naylor to a three-year deal worth$35 million. $23 million guaranteed for Jalen Naylor.

50:24Andy Holloway:there was a report last week that Jalen Naylor was going to be a hot commodity on the free agents market yes that people were going after by the way from the Minnesota Vikings Jalen Naylor yeah if you don't know who he is he plays wide receiver I don't blame you Jalen Naylor is a dynasty only name of name recognition but they said he was going to have a hot market 23 guaranteed 1717.27 years old. I mean, it's okay. This is a what does the NFL know that we don't and that the Minnesota Vikings didn't know.

51:04Mike Wright:They don't know anything. The Raiders paid the loser tax to get a solid wide receiver, not a special one. Every team has one guy like Jalen Naylor. The Cardinals is Greg Dortch. It's like a guy who's kind of productive for you and you respect their ability, but they don't go and dominate somewhere else. I can't count how many Raiders wide receiver signings have been in this category, whether it's Adam Thielen to the Raiders, if you remember that deal. Naylor's fine, but he's a 27-year-old wide receiver who didn't, you know, he just wasn't a game changer. They have Deontay Thornton. They have Trey Tucker.

51:41Mike Wright:They have Jack Besch. They don't have wide receivers. They're going to draft some, too.

51:47Andy Holloway:So Thornton last, or I'm sorry, not Thornton. uh, Naylor the past two years, 28. And this is appearing in all 17 games, 28 for four 14. Followed that up last year with 29 for 444 yards.

52:00Mike Wright:Was it him and McCarthy that had the connection?

52:03Andy Holloway:Uh, let's, or was it wins?

52:06Mike Wright:I just, I feel like there was a nice little run for Jalen Naylor.

52:09Andy Holloway:I would have to cross reference him. He had two games, week 10 against Baltimore and week 15. Yeah.

52:14Mike Wright:Five for one, 24 and three for 47. And that made him 20 something million dollars. Okay. Good for you, man. Chiefs re-signed Travis Kelsey. One-year deal worth$12 million. He's back. Do you care?

52:27Andy Holloway:Yeah. Wasn't he the tight end two or three last year?

52:31Mike Wright:Don't take tight end two away from Kyle Pitts.

52:35Andy Holloway:I'm so sorry. Please.

52:37Mike Wright:Yeah. Second half was real rough. It's. Week 12 on, he would have been on page four. Giving him 12. 63 for 500.

52:46Andy Holloway:It's the amount of money that is, I think, interesting. If you're Travis Kelsey, the money says that the Chiefs wanted you back. He was weighing his decisions of the offseason, decides he wants to play at least one more year of football. And it just seemed an unnecessary move that he would get paid that much. Well, you have to.

53:13Mike Wright:That's like the Cardinals with Fitz on one-year deals. You end up having to pay these legends, legend money, regardless of what they're really worth anymore. You're not going to get them back on anything else. And he'll probably end up a top five tight end. He'll probably catch 50-something passes for 600 yards and three or four touchdowns.

53:32Andy Holloway:Yeah, there is a scenario where it matters. But as a reminder, and for Walker as well, that Mahomes is coming off a devastating knee injury and may not be ready week one.

53:44Mike Wright:oh i bet he is i bet he is um isaiah likely three-year deal with the new york giants

53:56Andy Holloway:harbaugh likely reunited yeah uh theo johnson gets a little kick in the yeah kick in the sensitive spot theo johnson was someone i was i was pretty interested in but a three-year 40 million for it likely is a legit weapon so this is exciting for jackson dart i was thinking the

54:17Mike Wright:same it's good for jackson dart more weapons on the field it's not like theo can't catch touchdown passes yeah he probably won't be as good for fantasy but he's still good for dart yeah they're interesting you get neighbors back i mean they did they did lose wandale so and they're they could they could be in the contention for tyson or lemon or

54:36Andy Holloway:That's going to say, where they're picking, love.

54:40Mike Wright:How do you not add another weapon?

54:42Andy Holloway:They should.

54:43Mike Wright:You've got to give your quarterback a shot. Kate Auton, three-year extension with the Buccaneers, $20 million guaranteed, just a machine.

54:50Andy Holloway:All right, good for you, man.

54:52Mike Wright:Kate Auton is back. And maybe slightly more relevant if, I mean, tight ends aren't relevant, but maybe more relevant with no Evans permanently. We had the Max Crosby trade. That was a big trade. Ravens. Did you hear Jamar Chase? I was going to say Jamar Chase. Not pleased. Upset. He was live on Call of Duty or something. Upset.

55:16Andy Holloway:Which, yeah. I would be upset about it too.

55:20Mike Wright:Burrow now has to face TJ Watt, Miles Garrett, Max Crosby in six games. Uh-oh. Better fix that offensive line. Raiders also picked up Lindenbaum. I don't know if we mentioned that.

55:34Andy Holloway:that's a huge move for gente it's gigantic it's gigantic fixing the offensive line was was the the most important thing i wanted to see from the raiders i am going to blitz

55:46Mike Wright:the rest of this news mike because i just want you to basically interrupt me if something is interesting gotcha okay trubisky to the titans picket to the panthers kendrick born two-year deal to the Cardinals. Falcons sign John Dotson and Austin Hooper.

56:03Andy Holloway:The Dotson signing does seem chuckle worthy, but Darnell Mooney is out the door. Dotson will slide right into being their wide receiver, too. Probably won't have anything of note, but...

56:16Mike Wright:They brought Zaccheaus back, too, right? What? Yeah, you didn't know that? Did I miss that? Yeah, buddy. Reunited. Okay. It's not going to matter. uh khalif raymond to the bears that's kind of cool for the bears special teams no offense to the saints does that bother you with juan no offense all right i mean charlie kohler to the

56:37Andy Holloway:charge how many years of how many years of no offense do we need before you're like he's he's

56:44Mike Wright:fine not fantastic no dalton schultz uh one-year extension i didn't see that one with the texans coming back to the Texans. Bills, three-year extension with Dawson Knox, doing the dirty work. Tyquan Thornton coming back to the Chiefs to run nine routes when people are hurt. Traylon Burks signed a one-year deal, had one catch last year, signed a one-year deal with the Commanders. Yeah, but that catch ruled. It was great. Vikings restructured Hawkinson's contract, keeping him in Minnesota. And Devin Singletary is back with the Giants, which means they have Tracy Singletary and Scatterboom. Don't do it, Giants.

57:21Mike Wright:Maybe it'll be smoke. The Giants are so much better off bringing in Jordan Tyson. That's all I'm going to say. Than spending that early pick on a running back. We got a breaker.

57:30Andy Holloway:All right.

57:32Mike Wright:Breaking news. Fabulous news for Jameer Gibbs.

57:36Andy Holloway:Go on. The Detroit Lions have found their RB2. Former starting running back from the Kansas City Chiefs, Isaiah Pacheco. Okay.

57:48Mike Wright:Does that bother you at all with Gibbs? Because it doesn't bother me one little bit.

57:53Andy Holloway:The only thing that would have bothered me for Gibbs would be a hammer. And this is not a hammer. No. No, this is – Why? This is – If you are inside the five, why would you put Pacheco over Gibbs? No, you wouldn't. This is amazing news. That is excellent news. Celebrate, Gibbs manager. Tyler Algier, I thought was – Going to the Lions. It was a legit possibility. and if Algier had gone, you would have had to say, oh, man, that's five to seven rushing touchdowns that Gibbs won't get. But Pacheco, Gibbs stays in the one-on-one contention.

58:28Mike Wright:Before we close the show out, and we'll get into more Free Agent Frenzy on Thursday, Mike and I. Before we close it out, though, I'm going to throw one name into the hat for the Seattle backfield. You ready? Sean Tucker.

58:42Andy Holloway:Yeah.

58:42Mike Wright:Would that be interesting to you at all? Sean Tucker released not tendered by the Buccaneers. No, because he – Are you out? You don't believe?

58:51Andy Holloway:I believe he has talent, but it's hard to have seen him have that long of a career with Tampa Bay, have success, and then the team really never doing anything with it. It's very surprising. Maybe it could have been horrifically bad coaching decisions. Those do happen. But if he went to – if Tucker goes to Seattle, I'd be more confident in Sharps.

59:16Mike Wright:All right. Well, that'll do it for today's episode of the show, ultimatedraftkit.com. If you want to jump into the Dynasty Pass right now, the Dynasty show will release. Is that tomorrow? Will it release tomorrow?

59:24Andy Holloway:Yes.

59:26Mike Wright:And more of the Dynasty implications for all of these moves if you want to tune into that. Communities, join the foot.com, and we will say goodbye. Shout out to the Ducers.
