0:36We live in Fort Worth, Texas. And this is Financial Audit. Hey, thanks for coming down from Fort Worth, guys. So let's start with you, Megan. You're the one in front of me. What do you do for living in Fort Worth? I am an assistant property manager for an apartment community. Very nice. What do you make? 20 for an hour plus commission. What's the commission? Closing leases? Yeah, closing leases and renewals perfect what would you say comes in on a monthly basis what net what are we hitting um maybe 3 000 to 3 500 net okay okay very cool will what do you do uh i work for the railroad the railroad okay it's um 1850 wonderful yeah i'm not building the railroad i just work on the cars pretty much yeah we made the chinese do that so i didn't think it'd be you yeah okay so what do you make um i make about 2400 you make less a month for the railroad yes but what do you do what's your job i'm a car man you stay in there and mechanic yeah mechanic yeah they don't make they do i i pay child support oh so that's what i get what's your child support on a monthly basis 1700 okay that's pretty substantial yeah wait so that's what i get like on my check there's like a max child support in texas but in terms of percentage of income is it's yeah based off income well yeah it's based off income yeah so a little high wait how many kids two there we go that's why it's a little high child support so you went through a little divorce a little little touch of the divorce a little no i've never been married oh a little touch of the didn't separation yeah yeah that how old are the kids i got a seven and uh 15 so i take it seven and 15 okay yeah 15 i take it that you do not have split custody no yeah i don't have how many you see them are they here uh my son is here my daughter's not okay why don't you have some well my daughter is in michigan rip her so yeah it's too far and then my old it is um and then my son um when we set it up i was traveling for work so they were basically like default like They were like, you get every other weekend.

3:11There's two of them. Yeah. You nervous the dude's going to be dropping loads? Well, Megan's not worried about that. I can't have any more kids. Any more? Any more, meaning there's kids. Not possible. Right. But any more kids, as in there are kids. I have a son of my own. Okay. How old's your kid? He's 11. Okay. So you live with you? Yes. Okay. Full time. So that's the kid at the house? Yes. Yes. Okay. Very good. Very good. Do you receive child support? Minimal, but yes. What? How much? When it's paid, it's$86 a week. What do you mean when it's paid? What's the situation? He's very inconsistent.

3:53Yeah, but he would have a legal mandate. Okay. He job hops. So he's a loser. Mm-hmm. So when he's in between jobs, I don't get child support. And then it could take a couple weeks when he gets a new job for the state to catch up to him. Yeah. so for me to start getting that money back but yeah are you guys married? us? no are you getting married? 5:27So I just try to put them into a path that works. But either way, you guys shouldn't even be considering combining some things. What are you what what what possible is confirmed or combined? I mean, we just share, you know, like if we're going to get food or whatever, eat out. We'll just he'll grab my card. I'll grab his card. That type of thing. What does that mean? Grab card. Just grab her card and use it. to go pick up food food drinks and then do we remember each other like how is that working or is this we're just covering it's i think is there a discussion of who's covering the meal because i mean that's that's different than being on like a loan together or something that would be the huge concern right well i'm it's more of like if we go out to eat i i don't know i think we kind of just have like an understanding um like who's gonna pay that night i'll i'll ask him like are you paying for this or am I paying for this?

6:20I did pay for a lot of it at first. At first, yeah. And she realized I didn't have any money. She was like, oh. She was like, oh, here. Yeah, I'll help you out. Yeah, so then I started pitching in a little bit more as far as like the Sugar mama? I wouldn't go that far. Sugar mama? No. I mean, you did help me with rent. Yeah, I might have. Okay, well, that is a sugar mama situation. Hold on. No, no, no. No, no, no. What's your rent? What's your rent? My rent? Yeah, what's your rent? $1 ,650. How the f*** possible do you have a$1 ,650 rent if you're making$2 ,400 net? In what world did that make sense?

7:03Because you've been paying this child support for a few years, seeing their ages. So in what world do you think you should... What is that? What did you say? $1 ,600? Yeah,$1 ,650. $1 ,650 plus utilities and everything. think okay yeah what okay so 70 70 70 70 if they approve me they approve me for the apartment not afraid that the dude's just dating and try to get extra bill in no i wouldn't i don't know you guys i'm not going to suggest it but i mean dude's not paying rent he's having his girlfriend pay the rent how long have you guys been together since august okay i mean to be fair this didn't start until just like this past month.

7:46How did we meet? Yes, how did you meet? Because I guess we're in that era. We're internet strangers. We met on Bumble. Strangers on the internet. Oh, Bumble. Okay. I thought it was going to be like a chat room or something. You say internet strangers. It's a dating app. I mean, Bumble's the internet. It's a dating app. Yeah. A dating app. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Okay. So what am I trying to do here? Like, what do you want me to approach? What are we doing? What is going on in general? so we both obviously have our own debt separately that we have to work on. And when we move in together, you know, just trying to figure out, is this something realistic that we can both manage together and work on our debt separately and saving and all that type of stuff going forward.

8:35And you guys are already talking about marriage. No, no, you brought that up. I brought it up. You said the M word first. I did, but you said that's something we're considering in the future i mean if we're gonna live together i mean it might you know and things are going good moving in we are moving in together you are moving in yeah it's official we're going down because guy doesn't know how to budget his situation so he just moves in no it's not like that no well what is her lease is up and mine's not up yet but i can't afford the apartment and there's no point of having two apartments when I'm over her house or she's up for my house.

9:13How are you guys planning on spitting the bills? How are we doing? 50? What's the idea? 50-50 until I pay my debt. And then I can pay more because. So is this stack? Oh, my God. That's not all. Oh, fuck. Okay. So we both have debt going into our mid 30s. And then I'll pay more because I make, you know, I'll pay more because I make more money. But not. Not. well he's going to be getting his raise soon um plus so he so he's getting set up at work he'll be getting more money yeah i'll be getting a good raise yeah so i will make more than her raise so i'll get like a seven dollar raise an hour what's your hourly now 34 okay so i'll be making like 41.

10:06Okay, what's going to be your net at that point after child support? After child support? Yes, after child support because that's what matters here. Probably$4,$38 a month,$3 ,800. $7 wouldn't increase you to an extra, huh? $38 from$24 with a$7 raise. I think he might be also factoring in overtime that will be available to him. I do work overtime. Yeah. Are you factoring your overtime in the 2 ,400 that comes in? No, I didn't get to work overtime. I'm asking what hits on a normal basis. You said 24 net. Yeah. So. Why does that change all of a sudden? Because, okay. So before he got his raise or he's getting his raise, he wasn't allowed to work overtime.

10:54But now I am. But since he's getting his raise now, he'll be allowed to work overtime. So I think that's why it's going up so drastically is because 24 is low high. I think you might be not doing math very well. The math in your head. The math's not that thing. How the f*** am I going to budget for it then? Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. What can I help with? We just want to figure out if this is like something that's realistic to do. What? The moving in? Yeah. And he said you had to break your lease? Yeah. He's going to have to. What does that cost? We looked at the lease, and it's probably about almost$5 ,000.

11:38Okay, so what the fuck are we doing? Why do we have to move in together now? Because it'll be... Why can't you move into his current place? It's a one-bedroom. It's a one-bedroom. Cool, congratulations. You guys sleep together. You're dating. You're banging consistently. And then I have my son. Where is he going to sleep? On the couch? Yeah. But it's a temporary situation. How much longer is your lease? Until September. so it'd be about five or six months until his lease is up from the time that i would have to have a five thousand dollars with i'm trying i don't know your financial situation yet we're gonna go through it together yeah but five thousand dollars incorporated into a pile this big likely doesn't sound like something that's realistic or even making sense i'm trying to find a way around it well the how the what does that even mean trying to find you're not gonna find a way around you got to go through it that's not how finances works that's you're declaring bankruptcy but then good luck getting on another lease no no then what way around it are you talking about there's one go ahead go ahead little genius guy in the financial situation he knows all the answers because there's ways around it right so you guys are obviously going to get out of it because he already knows the ways around it so you guys are good there's no point in the conversation so what if i was in the military

12:52she has given you a face when you said that is this i mean well because if there is that there there's a loophole is that an option not so there's a loophole to not paying but you're getting a big boy raise to break your lease if you can show that you have military papers that you're getting uh like restationed or something are you getting me stationed No, but... Then what the f*** are we talking about? I don't know. Yeah. Huh? I don't know. I mean, I could get the papers. Huh? No, actually answer the question. You're bringing it up, so what the f*** are you talking about? Because I don't know.

Because I have... that city well with this guy with the ideas that he's throwing out it's not very smart so let's see here i'm just just combining the numbers to essentially simulate what you guys would be like as a couple for the payroll that came in we had 2732 from you that is uh certainly less than the 3000 to 3500 that comes in that you said would come in does that take into consideration my commissions? Yeah, but that was probably one of those times where... How are commissions paid out? What would they be? Because I have a PayPal and a Zelle. I also have a payday loan payout. Who the f*** took out a payday loan? This one. Oh, that was me. You already borrowed money from her for rent. Why'd you have to take out a payday loan? Because rent... You want to move in with this guy. This is the guy you trust. Because... I wouldn't be laughing at that.

16:53That's horrifying. Rent. Horrifying. rent comes out every month okay oh oh you know breaking information so i had to do something they want it every month caleb well yeah i mean well he didn't so to be fair i didn't give him money right away it was just this past month and when did you take out the payday loan because isn't this within the past month i have the most okay and then okay so what the f*** would your commission be because i don't see any commissions that are coming in it would come in as like a regular whatever the payroll looks like yeah it comes it comes in like that it's once a month the time varies it just depends when my how much would it be normally uh maybe in the range of five to six hundred or like three to six hundred dollars depends on the month i have miscellaneous deposit 240 oh i don't know what that is off the top of my head nope it was included in regular payroll he all he added up together your payroll and commission is$2 ,732.

17:54You're talking about this$250 less than you said comes in on low end. Maybe that's just a bad month. Bad month? What do you mean? So when you gave me your numbers, you were just calculating your commission as well? I mean, yeah, I was thinking of my hourly plus. So$2 ,732 came in. Again, we're simulating what it would be like to be a combined household. $430 came in through your child support. So boom, we're basically like$3 ,100-ish. You know, we're around there. You,$2 ,651 came in. a little higher than you thought. Gotcha. By the way, your commission was$168. It's not really moving the needle.

18:26But either way, our entire payroll, $2 ,651, 76 from you. Gosh, this is going to be one of those episodes where it's like, a more mature lady is taking care of the deadbeat husband. But then again, what are we going to do when we find out what's under your situation? Is that actually going to be true? Let's see. You just present as more mature. Okay, so in the simulated household,$5 ,814.59 came in. Now in the simulated household, what went out? What do you think went out? You guys are moving together, so you probably have at least had a conversation around each other's finances. Not that you'd have to be fully integrated at this point.

19:05In fact, I would recommend against. But either way, you would have a general idea. So in the combined household, how much was spent in the last month? I break even just about on my personal spending. Household number. $5 ,814.59 came in. What went out? Well, you're negative often. So, yeah. You're okay with this. $5 ,000. What did you say? $5 ,000. How much? $814.59. I'm going to go a little over$6 ,000. And you want to attach yourself to that. I mean, that's why we're here, right? That's why we're here. Okay. The classic thing. We've got to figure this out. It doesn't make sense. I'm asking you're okay with attaching yourself to that.

So your remaining portion of the 58, you're already over your portion.

22:26So it's got to be more than 58 because your account is negative. So that's where I was getting six, you know, 6100. Maybe if you really want to put a number to it. Does that make sense now? Yeah. I think we got it. I hope. I mean, I get like$2 ,400 a month, Caleb, right now. Uh-huh. What's the combined household expenses? More than that. What's the combined household expenses? Try to give me a number. Yeah, yours. Yeah. Okay, yeah. It would be more. Please translate this to him. Please get him to make an answer. So this is combined to what we make together. Okay. Okay, babe? I break even you have to make up the difference between whatever my share is the 27 I think you said Caleb and 58 you're clearly over budget so you would be over 5 ,800 is the combined household income this is actually happening right now in my life in this moment okay I got you I'm up to speed give me a number just give him a number over 58 please it's six grand okay oh yeah it was eight thousand six hundred ninety dollars that's what you're attacking yourself to oh my i'm not a math scientist genuine question okay you couldn't process what we were doing here yeah like are you able to process situations that are happening in real time in other instances yeah

24:06okay okay let's ground yourself i just want to proceed so do we recognize that again of the 5 800 that came in through the household like 8 500 was spent and that is yeah that's a lot for sure i don't i don't know how it gets to 8 000 but i'm assuming it's more on his side you are attaching yourself. I'm catching this early. This is like we are getting the first signs of cancer. Yeah. Okay? We are catching it early so you can decide to fucking cut off the tumor. Yeah. I mean, but the goal, right, is to get rid of the debt and then we won't be $8 ,000 every month. That would be the goal. You think he is capable of that?

24:55You think he is capable of that? in what world in your knowledge of him gives you that confidence because i would need some of that right now please yeah i mean like i said we're he's gonna be he's getting his raise he's gonna be able to work overtime this is not a guy that makes more money and does better because of that he makes if he doubles his income he triples his expenses it's possible but i guess no hopefully that won't happen i i mean i've had to borrow money from her and my family i mean i don't like to do that. So I'm definitely not gonna. I've had to do this. So that means I'm not going to.

46:06$727.77 with a minimum payment of$25. dollars no purchases only made the minimum takes four years to pay off interest is accruing you're only paying the minimum but we got all that on amazon and went out to eat as well our priorities are you say you want to get a house what house are you getting you can't afford to get a house you can't afford to do anything put everything on credit cards that are getting maxed out what are you talking about house what house would be in your future your credit score can't be great what's your credit score mine is like 650 6 great so yeah what house are you getting what kind of good mortgage you're getting.

46:38You're going to get good interest rate. We're just going to balloon your minimum payment. What kind of down payment are you going to get? What's in your savings right now? $4 ,000. Okay, so what house are you guys getting? Are you going to FHA? It would make your minimum payment even more substantial. So all of a sudden, your minimum payment is going to be like 50 % of your take-home. Well, the house won't be for another few years. We'll have time to save up money. A few years has gotten you into 90, almost$100 ,000 in bad debt. What's a few more years of your guys' pattern spending $8 ,500 as a household when 5 ,400 came in.

47:09A few years? Yeah, a few years you guys are$175 ,000 in bad debt. So I don't know what you're talking about a few years. What few years are you talking about? I mean, five-year plan. So within the next five years. Yeah, what's your plan? Because again, your plan was paying for him for his rent and now he's breaking a lease so you guys can get into a place where you don't even know your financial situation. You didn't even know his financial situation until you applied for the show yet you were deciding to get on together. Yeah, I mean, but it's going to be cheaper in the long run when moving together you are just assuming it all works that is how people end in a position because they just assume everything is going to work it'll work yeah it'll work out

Well maybe we should have because we're eight payments behind on this and we couldn't pay rent and we had to do our, honestly, relatively new girlfriend had to pay for our rent. Yeah. Not ideal. March end of March so really you yourself paying this rent you only did for a couple months before you started having other people pay for it via loans or whatever yes Yes.
