tucson living uh for a living by the way thanks for coming down and being on the show you canceled on us last week the day of ruining my entire schedule but no hey we're putting that behind us how dare we're friends here you got sick yeah i was i i didn't know why you got covid yeah assert wait when was it you you want some you want some covid no i i tested negative before i came i'm trying to get a sniffly nose over here so what do you what do you do for a living uh usually i do it i got laid off like three weeks ago i'm sorry um that's that's the market right now it sucks yeah it's it's it's tough out there in a few industries what type of it were you doing for like what in what industry um so i've been i switched industries and into a firm that was trying to change their business strategy okay and they failed happens businesses fail sucks okay what are you doing now what have you yeah what does these last three weeks look like i've just been applying for the hell out of jobs for the hell out of jobs yeah how many jobs are you applying to on a daily basis uh probably about 10 um the i'm it's getting kind of desperate actually um so i've gotten through basically every it job available in tucson yeah and so i'm starting to like i'm getting desperate and looking at like it's not a major market tucson no it's like a million people in the whole metro yeah and it's it's nothing compared to phoenix and i can't really commute up there because i got a kid in the area so i'm forced to stay in tucson yeah okay that was gonna be my follow-up question so you have a degree in it i do and certifications yeah i was gonna say i could always gift you one from course careers but sounds like you don't need it but okay that's fine okay yeah i mean it's a tougher market out there right now for sure it's not like i mean unemployment is relatively low compared to historical standards right now and really but the industries that are like still desperate to hire a more service-based lesson like tech probably lesson like there is still jobs obviously but they're but they're terrible they're more competitive or they're terrible what are you turning down the terrible jobs at this point i'll take anything oh that's because uh i i'm a big fan of eating well that's exciting um and having and having a home well yeah what about like retirement i do have a 401k how much is in there because i don't have it 32 000 okay well that's good uh it's about to get split in half oh you're going through a divorce aren't you it just finished last week oh okay and it's gnarly uh my my legal fees are in the low 20 000s kill me uh the divorce went on for a year and a half wait why was it so divisive so i'm transgender and my ex-wife what yeah my my ex-wife uh decided to kidnap my child across the country when i started the yeah when i started home and she ran off across the country with my kid you started transitioning and she lied she lied just long enough to get to establish residency in tucson and then i got served with divorce papers because i couldn't went to tucson yeah because we lived in mission in michigan okay oh i'm from there so i i would escape michigan as well but i don't think you're escaping the winters no i i had a home there it was yeah um it was a it was a nice one i had a half acre uh like it was 1800 square feet i had to sell it to move here and then had to live off of the proceeds and because the job market's been so when did you so that was a year and a half ago yeah so you came to tucson a year and a half ago a year ago i had to sell it and then get ready to move what'd you sell for and what did you net no just what did you net i netted 53 grand okay because it was a gift like from my from my family savings right now how much is in my 401k or savings oh my liquid savings liquid savings is gone where'd the 52 000 go you've only been out of work for three weeks have you been working this entire year that you've been down here uh no i haven't been able to i've worked in total maybe six months of it um because i tried to get a job uh mid last year it turned out to basically just be an it sweatshop and then i decided i would start a business and it didn't work out well i ended up breaking small businesses fail yeah it's great that you what the it sweatshop so i'm not gonna walk past that i want to make sure to watch it because i've had someone on here that got fired and she was like oh it's because i had to pee i'm like that's not why you got fired it's because she was breaking like the rules of the company so like i'll elaborate happily so yeah you do you know what an msp is no so they're a managed service provider they're an outsourced it department okay and when you're working as like one of the people that actually is doing those tickets you are on camera the entire time you're work and your your ticket count is constantly monitored yep and if you're not like constantly just pooping out tickets sounds like a customer service job and it's it's i mean the on-camera part's a little weird but it was creepy every room had a camera and they even had like cameras like pointed it at the entrances of the bathrooms the entrances of bathrooms okay that's weird yeah obviously very micromanaging i understand tracking the ticket count and stuff like that for you know customer service jobs and sales jobs and just whatever like there's goals you have to hit and things to go through um how much were you making like 52 000 it was much lower than what i made in michigan sure i didn't really feel it was like the first job you got right when you're done here yeah so how'd you go through the 52 000 so first i have a big stupid truck that i love and I keep fixing and I have a loan on it.
6:15Great. It's lifted and it's very good. And you need that to do it. Yeah. And it drinks lots of gas and it has big silly tires and I take it off roading and it may not be the most responsible thing, but it's a lot of fun. And it decided to have lots of things break after I moved here. So you'd rather take the net from selling a house instead of putting a down payment on another piece of property or instead of contributing more to an emergency fund or just like anything and you put it into a stupid gas guzzler so hear me out it was my only vehicle and i was living in my rv when i moved here okay so which was pulled behind the truck okay and and how how long did you live in the rv when you got to tucson i only got my apartment um like late january okay so these last three weeks what's been happening i've been applying for jobs i know on that but i've got like how are you living how am i living how are you living uh eating the bare minimum like freezer meals um the little michelina one dollar meals things and just basically just enough how are you paying for it with what little life i i have in my account you told me you have nothing in savings well they gave me they gave me severance okay when they How long was the severance for?
7:34A month. And I made$34.50 an hour at the place I got laid off from. How long were you working there? About three, four months. Oh, okay. Then one month severance. Actually could be considered generous, to be honest. They were pretty generous about it. Okay. We'll dive more in. 8:21The story's a tough one. We need to get your financial foundation. From your perspective, 0 to 10, 0 being the absolute worst, 10 being the absolute best. Where are your finances right now? What's your financial score? i would put it in a one or two it's pretty bad um i have something in retirement but yeah but it's getting split in half it's getting split in half to a much lower number than i would have ever wanted and yeah my ex does have to pay for a portion of my attorney's fees now which feels nice because how much uh about a third of them okay which that feels nice at least because i was deceived and the judge saw that but still if you want your hammer financial score it's free in the description below.
9:00Also, if you want to get yelled at, if you need to get yelled at to have a little money change, go to calebhammer.com slash apply and you can be on this show. Alrighty. So we start with a thick daddy of a card. This quick silver one. $9 ,167.57. Which, fun fact! See? Okay, this is stupid. Glad you at least made the minimum monthly payment, which is a f***ing insane than a monthly payment especially for zero income right now 334 dollars right now but with the 242 dollars of interest accruing there was still a purchase on here and guess what we're 167 67 dollars 167 dollars over the bat over the credit limit over the credit limit you're over and we have an apple subscription or apple payment or whatever that hit it uh-huh so for a while i wasn't allowed to touch the funds from the house what what house the one you sold yeah what does that mean how why so there was an injunction because it was in question quote unquote whether or not i could keep all of it what does that have to do with putting a bill on a card that you can't pay off well you see i needed to do that because i couldn't afford to keep both my cars otherwise and well because i have two cars the you you said you you you told i so earlier you said it's my only car that i had in the state where was the other car couldn't have in michigan at my mom's house because i i had to drive you go get it when did i get it why didn't you just go get it well get rid of the stupid truck that's draining your money because the other one was draining it too um it's also very old and broken it's like 27 broken cars
10:54uh what well i like them congratulations i like you being able to pay bills what the what so the other car was my first car i've had it for like 10 years and i just keep fixing it and it's always broken and it sounds like we should keep it but i like it what do you like about it is you can't use it well it works mostly oh my gosh um there's just always something a little wrong with it and i'm what's your obsession with cars i just like what americans and their cars who cares it's an engine yeah i know and the the dumbest part is i actually hate car-based transportation but i like cars great i'd like to take a moment to thank today's sponsor helium mobile as viewers of my show you all understand how important it is to cut unnecessary expenses wherever you can.
11:44A great example of this would be switching over to an affordable phone plan. Helium Mobile is a phone plan that I've been using for over a month now, and for just$20, you're able to receive a ton of value. For only that$20 a month, I'm getting 5G coverage that includes unlimited data, texts, and calls. Another great feature is that you can earn mobile tokens that can pay for your phone bill. Just open the app and go to Discovery Mapping. Share your location anonymously to help other users know where most of the users are and that's it you'll be rewarded with tokens because you've helped other users set up mobile hotspots in the area to further improve the coverage and guess what helio mobile wants to help you guys too they're actually sponsoring this video to give you a free one month trial again that's 30 days of free unlimited data texts and calls all on your first try just use my promo code caleb at the link in the description below and if you're locked into a phone contract don't worry enter your details of the form linked below for a chance to have helium mobile clear the remaining balance of your device plus they'll give you six months free of their unlimited plan 242 dollars of interest recruit is insane 30.74 interest rate absolutely insane over the balance so what was this locked up in the house fund thing that you were trying to talk about so my uh i got the house from my mom we had lived in it since 2005 and she gave it to me uh when she moved out and it had like 45 grand in equity and i netted 53 and my my ex's lawyer was trying to argue that it was all community property and eventually was she on the title no oh but you guys were married yeah and the house went into my name during a marriage we were married like four years five and then you guys did a little diddle had a kid yeah the diddle happened before the marriage okay the the marriage was prompted by the diddle okay and you uh got divorced for being trans yes okay so the ex-wife was not in favor very much not um there was there was a lot of pretty terrible things she did in the meantime one of which resulted in a another set of uh bills i had to pay off that i only paid off mid last year what uh i went to the psych ward okay and well did you have issues oh yeah okay well that's where people with issues go yeah and it was from her abuses that kind of sent me going insane great and yeah i only paid that off mid last year and that didn't help that's also part of the reason those cards are pretty what's the kid situation right now so i the divorce is over and i now have 50 50 custody of my kid um that's all i wanted and so she spends half her time with me half her time with mom okay how's the kid she's four yeah so why was the divorce so messy what was the messy part of the divorce because if she was just like nah i'm not gonna date someone who's trans or marry or be married to it's like if that's not what she's into that's not what she's into i guess so whatever do whatever you want right but why'd it have to be messy she got really resentful because she didn't want me to so she's catholic and very uh very strong in her belief that trans people aren't uh real okay well and that kind of became a problem i don't care about your transition i don't give a about her religion why why do we have to fight she got for a messy divorce instead of just like if you want a divorce divorce and call it a day that's like congratulations you're doing your thing and she has her beliefs who gives a i wanted it to be that way okay but what was she fighting on then she wanted me to not have um unsupervised access to my kid okay and she so during the divorce she accused me falsely of five felonies what um like during trial um one was forging documents the other was child abuse um diddling the kid and abusing her and i forget what the fifth one is did any of this get proven no they were all unsubstantiated and none of it happened sure right uh repercussions for her yeah that's why she has to pay a large portion of my lawyer's fees okay uh the judge was not pleased with that that's good because people should face repercussions for false allegations if they can't be proven right she's also living with her parents rent free and he decided because he was upset that he's gonna uh impute income to her like her getting to live there rent free so like her housing that she's getting for free is considered income at like 700 a month yeah how's the challenge apart anything like that so i don't have any right now um i have till june 1st to get a job before i'm imputed with 52 grand in income per year huh yeah wait what so what was the number 52 grand in income a year okay okay yeah so june 1st is enough time to get something because then i won't be imputed if i do get something that was the agreement the judge made so you're just not working right now yeah have you filed for unemployment so i don't qualify why because you haven't been in the oh because you didn't you weren't at that job for very long and i wasn't making enough beforehand because my business didn't make much as expensive it was a terrible idea but it was fun and i learned great that's what business is it's a yeah it's another cope laugh yeah look at me and grow all you want yeah yeah hearing a couple of always hurts me but it's a cope laugh okay wells fargo with a Wells Fargo card.

I believe like a few months from now, if I remember right. No, it's technically already ended. Oh. It ended in this statement. So interest is accruing now. Should be accruing now. How exciting. It's like a bit at this point why uh i've gotten very used to losing money at this point yeah it's hysterical okay like yeah but now you got 50 50 custody for a kid you want the kid to live a good life i don't think you can just be like as one of the parents ha ha ha i'm struggling with money and it's hilarious oh isn't this so cute that i'm struggling with money ha ha ha i'm such a cutesy little you know money struggler like no this is real dude yeah take it real so i do have a solution and i say dude is gender neutral before people freak out i say dude to everyone i agree dude is gender neutral i know reddit will just go like crazy on that you know called this person a dude you do the sound so well did you used to be a redditor yes for a second so my my plan is this i'm considering bankruptcy that's just an out okay why so what's your logic around it i have some i think i have some pretty solid reasons that debt will take quite some time to pay off especially considering the interest that's going to accrue yep i need to get rid of the rv that i have in my name that also has a loan and my truck that has a loan has a loan oh yeah okay okay and that's like 20 grand and the truck has like seven grand left on it and so what in the end when you go through different things like what are you gonna drive with my my old first car the one that like doesn't work ever and needs money constantly yeah that's very smart for someone who just went through bankruptcy because they couldn't afford to pay their bills so right the only saving grace i have is that Tucson does have good public transit.
21:13And there's a bus stop right in front of my apartment complex. So you get rid of that piece of s*** then? I still keep it, but I just... Why? Why? What's the point? Well, I do work on it myself. I do all the work myself. So you want to go through bankruptcy? You want to go through those fees and that legal process? Yeah, I've already talked to... After just finishing what you finished? Yeah, I've already talked to a lawyer about it. I know the prices of what it'll cost. What would they say? 1700 for like his fees how are you coming up with that you don't have it unless you pull from your retirement that's exactly what i was going to do so what is your life okay yeah it okay it's cheaper to do that than it is to pay all that interest over that time that i would actually have to be able to pay that off yeah and when you're scored i have it's gonna be regarding that i have another out um my family has rather great credit and and yeah i know my my mom has agreed that if i want to get another home another home like we're talking about another home or something some like something like if i need a car or any any kind of like credit for an actual physical thing i can put it in her name because she bailed me out once while i was here already what when i because i because i could not touch my house funds and i didn't want to like go crazy on my credit cards this is not going crazy racking these up to the limit and beyond okay yeah sure but didn't go crazy and she she sent me a few thousands that i could pay rent um at the rv park so voices yeah there's there's ghosts in here i uh so i wrecked my partner's car uh early this year that's your partner over there that is my partner so you found someone already yes in the wow okay you wrecked their car so what what's happening then you wrecked their car so what's what's the impact of that so what are you doing okay sorry i'm just trying to digest yeah so i was driving for uber for quite a bit of time that's what i i was using my truck to drive for uber and then it broke really bad and i couldn't afford to fix it and my wonderful partner who is very is is far too sweet and trusting not long after i met them let me use their car for uber and the very first drive i took it on i got blinded by the sun on a left turn and wrapped the front of the pole down like a person okay wrapped it around a pole why was your foot still on the gas if you were blinded that's a great question and i don't know i was very tired and should have been driving if you're so tired because i needed money yeah okay so consequences of that um the car was worth like like four or five grand it was like a little ford focus um and i called my partner crying and then we figured it out and i gave them the money i had just gotten from my mom yeah that was the other thing uh i got four grand from my mom she just partner just said didn't have collision insurance okay yeah and so i gave them i think like two or three grand out of that um and i was going to give them the whole thing and they just said no just you need a little to be able to live please and then i helped them find another car and then it turned out the car market in tucson sucks and they had to get one with payments on it which you pay for now so you just push that off on someone else your the consequences of your own actions yeah you're smiling about that cope smile yeah how's that affected the relationship um there are uh some jokes here and there about it um and there doesn't seem to be much resentment about it um i mean that was rather early on in the relationship and we're like six months in now and it's still going quite well uh surprisingly i i don't deserve my partner they're far too wonderful for me okay then we have a trio card of 2461 and 49 49.14 interest is accruing balance 2461 the minimum monthly payment of 73 so again no purchases this is close to its max yep that one actually used to have a higher limit and it went down good you're not a credit card person use is i plan on never take him out again like i don't plan on ever having credit cards again so you don't want to work through it i don't think i don't think it would be wise considering where where i think my income is going to be okay and you really think for the next 10 years anytime you need credit your mom will just borrow things even if there's weird state issues or whatever in the in the short term i'm not i don't think i have another choice uh well i mean yes you can work and manage the debt but where am i gonna make enough money to manage all that debt and pay my rent my rent's like 850 and then i have good rent that's cheap i literally so i sorted rent by lowest in in the area that was close to the job i got laid off from and i picked that place no obviously we start um it you're in a difficult situation right now the unemployment part sucks that you can qualify for that um
26:47the thing is is you're just not working at all why haven't you picked up a service-based job to at least try to bring in some money like yes you've been applying for jobs but what else have you been doing outside of that these last three weeks so i tried to apply for those like anything like walmart or like the gas station down the road which if your resume is in a complete piece of i still got i still got told no and i made a little customer service resume resume they just it was the generic boilerplate after reviewing your application carefully blah blah blah we've decided not to move forward the usual boilerplate boilerplate stuff and walmart i've played there nothing ghosted every single coffee shop every single restaurant every single thing all the openings i'm realizing i just have to carpet bomb the city with resumes yeah because if you're the only person that can't get a job in the entire city of tucson then what's going on with me right what am i doing wrong and it's it's difficult i don't because i'm right in tucson is under the national average as well.
27:51I want to take a moment to talk about something very important when it comes to your financial future, investing. And with today's sponsor, Moomoo, it's never been easier. Moomoo isn't just another trading app. It's an all-in-one investing app that encompasses easy-to-understand analysis with complex research tools. And boy, has the platform been helpful during earnings season. And if you're unfamiliar with earnings season, it's a quarterly event where big companies like Apple and Microsoft publicly share how their company has been performing, which tends to cause drama in the market, kind of like your favorite reality TV show.
28:27However, with Moomoo, you don't have to feel like a noob. Take the Earnings Hub, for example. This tool gives a high-level overview of all the important companies giving earnings, and if you click into a specific company's earnings, Moomoo will break down the most important information in a way that anybody can understand. Moomoo also recently rolled out fractional shares. If investing in major companies like Apple or Nvidia has seemed out of reach, Moomoo has come in and changed the game. With as little as$5, you can start owning parts of these industry giants. This makes it easier than ever to diversify your portfolio without a large initial investment, which is perfect for budgeting.
29:07And it's not just about playing the market. It's about being smart with your money. Which is why I personally take advantage of Moomoo's fractional shares to easily budget for weekly investments into my favorite stocks and ETFs. And now is the best part. In honor of us being smack dab in the middle of earnings season, Moomoo increased my new user bonus from 7 fractional shares to 10. That's$50 in free stocks just for making a qualified deposit. It's time to take control of your money. Moomoo, thank you for supporting our channel. now let's get back to the episode i i feel like i've just i need to make a better customer service resume or something because i've never worked out what about just stocking shelves you're not going to need a customer service resume just essentially show that you can do work i've tried um i gave like i gave um one of those places a like my actual resume and i've tried abridged versions that are like look here's what your resume looks like we might look at it in a but Dodge Ram 1500 from 2007.
30:10Okay. So this is the old piece. Yes. And it still has a loan on it right now. How long has this loan been? I bought the truck in 2021. How long is this term? Four years, but it's still, what'd you buy it for? Like 11. It's a, it's a nicer one and it has the bells and whistles and blah, blah, blah. bells and whistles for 2007 yeah okay uh it's got the bell and whistle from 2007 look like well it has the cd player it has the hemi v8 it has locking differentials it's got the towing package it's lifted at from stock and i made it taller but you'd be getting rid of this yeah i'm gonna get me getting rid of it because i i can't afford it at this point and everything what's that when you're going to be going through bankruptcy and everything yeah and i'm going to be getting rid of that i have the option to keep it through bankruptcy um yeah but i'm not going to want to no at this point there's no point i'll just keep my one cheap car exactly and deal the one that doesn't work well it's never broken down it's just nickel and diming me it's an old midwest car how much have you put into repairs for this truck for the truck yes in the last three years that you've had it probably about seven thousand are you are you absolutely i wish okay so the front suspension decided to crap the bed and i did it myself i've never had that response i'm flattered but we're thinking about debt right now the repairs were at least made with mostly with cash mostly the tires were not the tires were bought by my partner who oh my gosh so early in the relationship i will i would vent about these things and they would kind of shove their credit card at me and be like i will pay for this because they felt very bad for me and they're they're far too sweet and i didn't really know that because of you yeah do you feel any more responsibility to pay that quite a bit i just don't have the ability and it does feel awful yeah yeah i really feel like you haven't like i in the service-based industry even just stocking like shelves overnight i know you could have been working there might be some resume things might be applying to the wrong jobs and no it would not pay for every single bill but you would at least do it during that one month of severance and yes obviously apply for every normal job in the sector you want to work with at the same time like i'm talking these are like these are desperate like go crazy type of days like you know the moment you wake up to the moment you're sleeping is either stocking shelves or applying to jobs both at the same time if you can you know it's just like going absolutely wild i really think you could have been bringing in at least a little bit of income right now i'm trying are you with the wreck are you prevented from driving uber eats again no i was driving uber with a passenger oh why haven't you done any more of that so my truck aged out of uber yeah what about the other one the other car it's a 1990 so and the minimum year is 2008 now so this stuff that you owe to the law firm is this after what your ex owes oh no they they have or she has to pay one third of that of the 8368 oh that was before trial and trial was three days so it's going to be more than double that days yeah just to essentially what was the the main fight was just over a custody it was custody the nature of the funds from the house yeah and which you ended up getting pretty much then she got some of your retirement yeah she gets half her retirement she has no retirement she did not work throughout the entire marriage wonderful okay so what do you what what do you owe oh you oh to the law firm yeah it's gonna end up being about 15 grand oh do they have payment plan options or how does that look so my my lawyer felt really bad for me and i kind of ended up kind of like getting friendly with them and they're just gonna let me pay like as i go without interest so i did get lucky in that sense and she's she's not even having me pay right now and she understands like i don't have a job so that's a nice at least but i'm very far in the hole on on that one and that's more than the value of both my cars combined i actually sold i had three cars before and i sold one to help pay for the lawyer i had a i had a chevy one ton truck like a 3500 And then you have another debt That I don't have right?
35:02You said the RV has that? Yeah the RV has like 20 ,000 left on it How do I not have that? That's your biggest debt It's double the other biggest debt you gave me It's just the Quicksilver Why do I not have that statement? So the bank I get it from is super shady And they won't give me statements What's the interest rate on that? It's like 7 or 8 % it's actually it's not that bad not that okay well it's not it's if it's seven or eight percent it's keeping up with market and then plus depreciation and everything and gas and all that bullshit maintenance you're just you're losing it out versus putting money in the market so what's the minimum monthly payment on that 250 what was the term length 10 years oh i didn't rvs whole different breed okay yeah it's bad kill me right now how long have you had it a year year and a half um let's it's worth what i owe but i'm still just gonna let it go in the bankruptcy because i mean getting it you're committed to this bankruptcy it sounds like it's like it's it sounds like the best option for me at this point considering the money before the rv i was like this is it's quite workable with your industry specifically and that may have required some annoying uh what is it an hour and a half to uh to phoenix a little like a little under two hours yeah which would have absolutely would have sucked but even temporary commutes there would have been a possible thing people do that from san antonio to austin and vice versa and that's about a couple hours with my 27 year old car i know there's some listen we can talk solutions and there's always going to be okay but okay but okay but and we deal with them as well at that point we start looking at buying you know something that's doesn't have ac like all this crap but is safe and reliable for a couple years for like five to ten thousand hours and we figure out how to get that so we can commute to a better job like there's ways to milk the system in life instead of just giving up oh but this oh but this okay i guess we're just gonna do nothing then well i guess we just give up and we just go through the bankruptcy that's the thing we've just we've decided to just let everything go well that's the thing with that car it doesn't break down it just has little stuff and i don't want to get stranded why not even what's your credit score it's not that awful yet then why not consume like consolidation loans instead of bankruptcy like why do you want to just obliterate everything for like a decade your credit and everything like you're relying on your mom but this is such as relying on anyone other than yourself even though it is your mom and i'm sure she loves you but imagine something tragic happened in five years and then you have another five years where you're you can't qualify for anything you know and you just absolutely have to for whatever reason you know and uh your kid's gonna be 14 so if you had to do some like parent plus loans it wouldn't matter at that point because you would have been out of bankruptcy for a while um but i don't know you're really just if if you're gonna live 80 years i mean an eighth of your life you're just declaring that you can't do anything with credit you're committing to something for so long just because you decide that this isn't something we want to tackle i'm not opposed to bankruptcy as a concept it's a good legal maneuver that can be used in many instances and there's been a lot of people there's been a few people on the show where i'm like i actually might be the only option i don't see that being your only option though you can work through it and not face that major consequence now i know you've just been through the legal process so usually a lot of the reasons we don't want people to go through is because it's very stressful and it gets it gets but you just been through legal so maybe you're like oh what's another one but that is exactly it i'm i've been down to the courthouse in tucson at least a dozen times at this point you're giving up though at this point it's it's much simpler than having to live under the under the boot of that dayson though yeah but it won't be for 10 years though it might be because i don't know what kind of income i'm going to be making well of course not that's hypothetical but even still we can look at industry standards and if you're willing to expand your horizon then just the tucson market even if it would suck and i do not want you to do this but even if it's a sacrifice for two years where you live in phoenix for two years and only see the kid on the weekends i know that doesn't seem like that doesn't feel like an option why that kid has so many emotional problems from being taken from me um i couldn't do it to her and she comes before i do i i know i agree she comes before you do but she is involved in the situation what do you mean your finances directly impact her so if a couple years sacrifice well she barely has any memories at this point because you only start being able to form concrete memories around the age she is anyway you know for two years and it would again i am talking major sacrifice i'm not saying you're never going to see her absolutely drive down every evening you know of a week you know like there's a lot of things that we can do here i'm not saying this is great i'm not saying yeah 100 let's do this this is the only way i'm just throwing out potential solutions where your only solution is i've given up and i don't think that's the only solution i don't know it feels like it's the the faster way out to not having to feel not having to worry about how am I going to pay off, you know, six or seven hundred dollars or more worth of payments every month on on this terrible debt that is on depreciating assets.
40:34Now, the truck is worth more than I than I owe on it now because, well, those trucks are going up in value because Americans are insane. But the RV is going to go down in value and there's no way to get rid of that without bankruptcy, because realistically, who's going to buy an RV right now? Another thing with bankruptcy for you that i just don't feel confident on if i'm knowing right i think a week before your episode goes up we uploaded an episode of someone who went through bankruptcy it didn't fix anything because no behavior was fixed and without going the process of paying off his debt and actually learning the behaviors around it just a few years after bankruptcy the dude fell into some of the worst debt i've ever seen because he just took out everything predatory you're not fixing any of the issues that got you into debt in the first place bankruptcy sure it might clean this slate a little but then your slate's gonna become well without changing anything i would argue that most of the reasons i am where i am are from factors outside of my control my dog had lots of vet bills last year okay why didn't you have pet insurance i so it wasn't completely out of your control you're right but so there's responsibility things here the moment i hear someone say everything was outside of our control and deflect everything sure maybe 50 maybe 75 even maybe the vast majority but to immediately deflect and say everything is out of your control is immediately worrisome to me and that even speaks to me more that going through bankruptcy is not going to be a solution because your behavior all of a sudden what's going to happen on the other side of bankruptcy for you oh and other million things outside of my control happened that i was not prepared for by the way fun fact if you actually sacrifice and have a fully funded emergency fund a lot of the things are in your control which you didn't do so you actually didn't take control of the situation because if you had those funds saved like a responsible adult then no you would not be in the debts so i i'm not gonna just i'm not just gonna take that that's that's some immediate deflection of a child and you know that's that's not how we're gonna do things i but it's all in the past now and i've learned those lessons but i hope so but there's no action suggestion you have because the checking account thousand bucks in there okay well what do we do here in the entire time going to mcdonald's what's the grease monkey thing by the way that's that was an oil change um okay well that's fine and i only went there because there's a 25 dollar fee and then we're going into gas station getting going into gas station getting some amazon uh some purchase on google a google subscription been moving out 45 going into gas station getting some bull getting in a car wash for our mid-2000s piece of yeah that needs oh that was for the 90s car you don't even live in the snow or anything this is sand hey i have a good reason for that i've been working on repairing the the crappy old you better have a good reason because you do it like five more times in the statement i know and i've been working on fixing the paint because it has rust on it and i fixed i fixed it but it's i live in an apartment i don't have access to wash it there how often do you have to watch it wash it before the truck burns and dies on the side of the road it was the car not the truck the car but how often does it have to be washed to prevent it from be catching on fire on the side of the road well none but okay well there you go then it's but it's also got like i was fixing rust on it and i wanted to actually have it not be super unrepresentable when i'm coming up to like a job interview or something oh they buddy if anyone sees your car when they're pulling up to a job interview they're weird they're in their office like they don't know and if you're pulling up to walmart even like we're talking about those jobs you're in a parking lot with a million other cars that's just a bull excuse and if it was a one-time thing because you fixed it distant paint and you got that to do it that's fine but we're gonna i'm gonna call it multiple car washes so okay car wash mcdonald's again subway steam games mcdonald's going into gas station getting some bulls** mcdonald's amazon amazon so amazon is a lot of car parts well we'll see i'll look at it uh go daddy what was it are you paying for so that was my part of my business i had cancel it your business is dead i know mcdonald's amazon cafe some ritual.com vitamins okay and the the 45 i have a good reason for that one that's my therapist i did i call yeah on venmo oh you venmo your therapist yeah that's unique okay well maybe it's not but i've had a few therapists and i've never whatever going to gas station getting some bull we have some storage adobe mcdonald's rock auto what's that those are car parts so many car parts so uh car parts oh we're back to the car wash wouldn't want to be unpresentable when we're parked in a car parking lot that nobody knows who's driving which car mcdonald's little scissors oh we're back to the car wash you know it's crazy snowy and stuff out there i bet it's a little dusty sure but like i had one more reason that i wanted that i went through the car wash it's the so i was having weird issues with the air suspension on that on the old car and i thought maybe if the because it has like road reading sensors i thought maybe if i could clean them up it would actually make them work and it briefly did and then it they ended up breaking again fantastic mcdonald's no i already said that one getting a gas station getting some bull some microsoft payment maybe a subscription maybe a game maybe an in-app purchase i don't know amazon more car parts then went out 70 dollars is that therapist again that one i was probably paying to my partner for paying on i so we we obviously are together a lot now we'll pay for like half of something or like half of a set of groceries or whatever going to gas station getting some gas uh oh well no that may have been groceries or prescriptions and then amazon again and then going into gas station getting we are endlessly going into the gas station getting some you are addicted to taquitos you are a taquito addict if i've ever seen one other than taquito man himself you know Are those naked shakes?
46:44Nope. They're so good. The smoothies? Yeah, they're pretty good. I've been getting them every time I go into a job interview for a little energy. Oh, that's interesting. So again, we would rather do bankruptcy than just control our spending and learning how to budget. These actions, well, we have a lot of debt and we're over a credit card limit on a card, but these are the actions. We're choosing naked shakes. So if we're choosing naked shakes over getting a balance under the max, does that really suggest to us that our behavior, our maturity, our understanding of finances has changed in the slightest and that it will be any different on the other side of bankruptcy i say not well i don't plan on having credit cards afterwards so i wouldn't have a choice says you you say you don't plan to you of course not you don't want to but the same thing happens with the other people on the show same thing happens with other people on dave ramsey show on oh on roman show on just everyone's show that they talk about this you don't plan to it's in it's because your behavior your behavior isn't planned to you didn't plan to do any of this did you plan to get to buy debt no it just happens because your behavior hasn't changed and you're not like acting like an adult with your spending or money management if you ever budgeted in your life do you know how to do a budget have you budgeted we're obviously going to send you through our budgeting class but so before i left michigan i actually had an excel spreadsheet great and after i after that whole thing exists in arizona by chance no the second you leave the michigan border it actually just uninstalls from your computer no um after i left i kind of i just was so focused on other things i kind of just stopped doing it and just kind of tried the economy we live in in the world we live in i just tried to raw dog my finances unfortunately not being focused on our money is not an option it's just not and i just i tried to live as cheaply as i could and then just huge things came up also joking about things so how like do the excel joke fine but you're like you're joking about your purchases your cars how are we expected to accept that you've learned a lesson by any means i don't know okay debt payments 9.3 percent of your spending or 428 dollars and 45 cents 1052 dollars 53 cents went to housing or 22.7 percent 0.5 percent went to phone transportation 27.7 percent or 1374.91 cents necessary food grocery stores as well also know what that's known as one percent interesting but going out to eat was 4.1 or 187 dollars and 75 cents unknown shopping typically amazon i bet that a lot of that is car parts but if it is that numbers 873 dollars 75 cents or 18.9 medical and health care 1.3 and i'm sure your medical and health care um is expensive so i got lucky on that one uh i applied for access which is arizona's like medicaid um so my medicine is cheap i don't pay for doctor's visits when was that i got it like mid last year and were you making 53 000 during that time i only made it for a couple months but during that time were you yeah but the so you didn't claim it they didn't know it because your previous well the way the thing is is it's per quarter so they didn't know it and it did it also didn't disqualify me so no i may have the next quarter though i'm not sure i don't know their system but it's not like you're living in poverty with 53 000 maybe it was subsidized a little after that again i don't know their system 1.1 went to subscriptions we don't really don't need that right now that's 1.1 that could go to debt and take that up to above five percent or 10 percent 3.5 with the miscellaneous bullish for 169 163 dollars 366.52 cents went to other large purchases also known as 7.9 percent you're spending large purchases yeah lots of venmo driver's license fee that's fair enough upper freight home depot campground fee is very important and your storage unit the miscellaneous was mostly the car washes and steam games so the the campground thing yeah i pay them a fee every month to keep my rv there but not actually good more and more fees for the rv that's god that's great so but they also give me a sweetheart deal because i have like it's like a 50 foot by 50 foot area that i get to use for whatever i want so i can work and you can't afford it so that's a real sweetheart deal but i can also work on my car there i can store things i need to there i got rid of my storage unit and i store all my stuff in my how do you afford to work on your car there what do you mean how do you afford to work on your car there with what money perhaps that money because it's all your severance well it's severance that no longer exists well it's either that or i don't have a car at all but you're pumping so much into the car the money that you've put into this car and everything if you take that combine with the rv and the tube you have another loan on the 90s car no there's no loan on i bought it i bought it in those cars over just the past couple years did you could have got a 10 000 car that's operated that works and gets you places whether it has the bells and whistles are lifted or whatever is different it gets worse oh good do tell so um to protect what little i have left of my severance and savings um and because i only had nothing in savings how much is in there well i mean not myself like my savings of like my my retirement savings um okay i stopped paying on the truck so it's it's running late right now how many how how many how how late one payment so far same with the rv okay um it takes what like six payments to start getting into repo so yeah i'm not worried about it four six something and i asked my bankruptcy lawyer it takes about a month and a half two months with with the way the courts are right now so i wouldn't even have to deal with like getting repo yeah sweetheart deal when we're not paying our bills going into the gas station getting naked smoothies when we can't pay our bills and blend some vegetables and fruits at home like a adult you're 27 not i don't have a blender oh oh my gosh maybe like the price of five naked trips is the price of a mid blender at walmart you know the place where you should be stocking shelves maybe stock the shelves of a blender and then take one home legally show me your amazon okay let's grab it i think we're gonna bring your partner on camera here in a little but i wanna actually let's bring him up now come on in i didn't know you had that much credit card debt dog you didn't you did not know they had that much credit card debt no how long have you guys been dating?
53:21Six months. Okay. I mean, usually finance conversations, you know, three, six months in. Someone has to be petting her. I thought that was a human yelling.
53:38Brief interruption. Y 'all got to use my favorite high yield savings account where you can get up to 4.6 % on your money, plus FDIC insurance up to$2 million. You can also get up to$300 for signing up today. It's the personal high yield savings account that I use for my money, so don't let your money be losing money while it's just sitting there. Click the link in the description below and get those bonuses. All right, come on in again. So how in love are y 'all? Enough in love to let her buy a$1 ,300 off-roading tires on my credit card after knowing her for two weeks. What are you? What are you?
54:16That's ridiculous. Why? So how bad's your debt? Well, so I have about$10 ,000 in credit card debt. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So are you okay if your partner is never able to buy a house with you within the next 10 years? Because they're not going to be able to participate. And that mortgage lender is going to be like, bankruptcy, huh? That's interesting. yeah i that's not ideal what do you think about the bankruptcy it just seems like a cop-out to me instead of like i know it's hard for you to find the job in your industry and what you bring your mic down what you enjoy doing the most right now but what do you think i mean i'm not gonna like touch hurt finances with a 10-foot pole uh for yeah but what if y 'all get married that ain't happening oh it's not happening well i mean not anytime soon we're we're both divorcees you're divorced too yes i am i'm 25 whose dog mine okay was it from the marriage no i've had her for long before i even knew my ex she's very old oh well she's very cute she brings the happiness to the table and the credit card debt also much much much credit card debt she had Lyme disease when she was younger and she has all kinds of arthritis issues that are very expensive so i'm still interested on the fact that you just did not know how much credit card debt there was
55:54but i guess it's not impacting y 'all's relationship much right now yeah we don't live together um we really we did briefly six months because um in january uh she was briefly homeless really yeah So I let her stay in my one bedroom apartment with her four year old daughter, which was deeply unpleasant. How often does your partner actually apply for jobs? I don't know. I have a job, so I'm not like watching her. Okay. Well, you know, maybe you didn't need to be brought into the conversation. That's okay. Well, I can give some insight. Sure. She doesn't know how to cook. So she eats out at McDonald's.
56:31Learn. Google a video. YouTube a video. This platform is free. welcome to it she also hasn't been like applying to fast food jobs and stuff okay which i mean you kind of lied and why is that fair there's no money so bills sure that sucks and sure it's a step down like a lot of people would view it i'm not saying do that i'm the temporary thing well in every single evening or anytime you're not working you're applying to jobs like it's a full time job well the only things i don't want the only things i can't i can't really see myself being able to deal with is fast food why it just seems so overwhelming and i would i will do there's different parts of it that can be less overwhelming but working at jimmy john's was like the least overwhelming thing ever i just sat in my car and delivered so that part i could deal with so do it apply to jobs dude well that's what i'm doing not those jobs well just not like it and choosing i just try not there's certain ones i can't deal but i will do i'm still desperate you deal they're loud there's too much you can't do loud i can't do loud can't do loud she's autistic unlike noah so like any any anywhere where there's going to be a ton of noise all day it's just not happening i mean there's also there are different parts there's different areas of the fast food you could just literally be out online that's just like dumping the fries you know like i mean i haven't worked at mcdonald's specifically but you know i've done Jimmy John's, a pup, of course, steak and shake where I made shakes and did dishes.
58:09Dishwasher. I mean, why not? I did dishwashing. Dude, dishwashing. Like, you know, it's like, yeah, there's always going to be dishes coming. Might be a little noisy. Can you handle that? Well, the other thing is her daughter is she's in daycare, but it ends this summer. So she'll have to pay for Daycare at some point Like She can't work a regular 9-5 Because she has to pick up her daughter You'll split daycare Yeah but If it's during my parenting time I might be responsible for it For all of that daycare time Your parenting times So my parenting time is like 5-2-2-5 So one week I'll have her from Wednesday evening till Monday morning That makes sense But that's still half the month though right?
58:58it's a daycare needs yeah so you it is it depends on like what because my ex might not have to pay for daycare because her her mom is retired and she lives with her mom how's the communication between you both sparse and uh is it getting more cordial though a bare minimum but yeah there's occasionally like a rude message from her here and there but great it's it's rough so i can't even put anything down for your income because you just don't make any money i just need you to go bring in an income right now if we're in a massive recession and the job market was and unemployment rate in tucson's lower than the national average like it's but if like unemployment was like great recession levels i'd be like you're right and you might not be able to flip burgers right now like that's hard well people are fighting those for those positions but that's not where we are people are fighting for the positions you want that i want you to get absolutely what do you think about the commute to uh to the other the big city phoenix it's long it's hard it sucks we don't make any money and there's no job so well the other thing is she hates it and she wants to become a she wants to become a lawyer now what the that's something you haven't even you didn't even bring that up there's so many lawyer you're to go through law school with what so how are you going to qualify for the student loans for law school after bankruptcy you can guess what i'm going to say it's it's going to be through through my mom or grandmother who both have they'll do that are you sure they can they can they make they make they both make a lot of money what's a lot of money uh my mom with her husband they make like 200 grand a year it doesn't even matter so really at this point i mean you're just like oh this this is why i don't think bankruptcy is going to help you i think this is i think this is what this conversation is coming down to is i mean you just have things you can fall back on and it's it's not bad that there's a support system but you don't have to do anything you don't have to do anything you can just be lazy you can just give up and you'll never learn a lesson because mom and dad will just take care of us and that's just what the end that's just what our life is going to look like and you'll get some uh you know stockpile once they tragically pass away or something and it's just like you never have to take care of anything but i don't know how you'll manage that i don't know how you'll manage not getting in a debt just being irresponsible haven't taken any care of anything might go through school they'll just pay for it doesn't matter doesn't the consequences of our actions don't matter just do anything and everything so i think that's just what your life comes down to which absolutely terrifies me because the moment that the support system doesn't exist you're just ruined you're destroyed and at that point that's when we have the conversation and i'll actually you know be like this is how you get out of this but it doesn't even matter at this point because right now you're just like i'll just do the easiest thing whatever and just let go of all my debt because guess what for the next 10 years if i ever need to do something want to do something mom and dad they'll just take care of everything because that's how i live my life so i don't know that kind of that's kind of it for me that's i don't know that sounds like a really sad life in my opinion i'll be honest that's just irresponsible childish and just kind of sad i mean just not learning anything that's a bummer but i don't i guess that's that's where it is do you want to talk about the inheritance oh there's also that uh i do stand to inherit quite a bit of money what's quite a bit of money about a quarter million okay quarter million you're not going to retire off of that no what are you going to do with the quarter but i don't know how you're going to do anything so my plan is this i want to live minimally in my crappy little apartment that is nice and cheap uh work some service job enough to pay rent and food go through school and keep the inheritance for a later date that i do not touch drive my sad little 90s car that i fix here and there myself you're pumping more money into that than it makes sense to just have another car i have a good reason though because more than that i didn't touch it on maintenance for like the past few years and now i'm having to catch up because now it's my main car because it mostly just sat before but i just never got rid of it okay and now it's and now it's gonna be my car i don't think anything's actually gonna change in your life or in your behavior or anything's gonna be beneficial until there's actually consequences your actions you actually have to take care of anything it's kind of oh i don't want to say pathetic because it just sounds mean so but i don't know i'm kind of embarrassed what is the total of all my all the debts i would have to pay off come out to a month you think so getting it paid off within a few years it would be how much maybe allow the you can sell the rv so i'm not even counting that because you can sell for the price so i wouldn't count that i also what could you sell the truck for i could sell the truck for about 7 ,500.
1:04:04There you go. So I'm not counting that either. And that actually takes a thousand dollars off another debt. But who's going to buy it with a loan against it? What do you mean? Nobody's going to want to wait for a title from another state. That's not true. I've done it. People do that. What are you talking about? You're saying no one in this world does that? I don't know if they'd want to do it for a$7 ,500 truck. Dude, I don't know. Fine. We'll call$1 ,600. Even still. so we'll add a thousand dollars to it but you got rid of that you got rid of the rv 33 898 you have an extra working an it job with the bills that you have with the minimum payments you go aggressive you go hard you you you should be able to you should be able to pay it off in two years you should be able to pay off all the debt in two years a fraction of the 10 years that you're paying for but again it doesn't matter because you're just falling back on other people and you'll never learn anything anyway so i don't know this this i'm very disappointed at the end of this conversation so that's gonna that's gonna be it make sure to check out all the resources linked in the description below there what i use or would use in specific situations including the best watching program in the history of the internet even though i'm disappointed though we will go to the post show right now and we're gonna have conversations and i think he has more uh uh questions uh for the couple situation ship and stuff like that so stick around today on the financial audit post show because inflation is like seems like it's faster than the gains on most people's investments at this point no i'm invested in maybe that's the inflation of your life is your stupid cars you're probably not wrong but i also really hate trying to find another car for myself where i like my old car because it never breaks so entitled i'm sorry but you seem really entitled to watch the financial audit post show click the join button below.
