0:30and take control of your money once and for all. Hi, my name is Ted. I am 31 years old. I am from Rexburg, Idaho. And this is Financial Audit. What's up, buddy? I've never heard of Rexburg, but thanks for coming down. What do you do for a living up there? I am a truck driver. Room, room, drive, drive. Love it. Room, room, drive, drive. That can be actually pretty lucrative, depending on, I think it's the long haul ones that really make the money these days, right? Well, how much are you making? Well, and that's what I do. as I do the long haul. So we're making money. Yeah, I'm making pretty good money.

1:04I just got a pretty decent-sized raise. But I make 54.5 cents per mile with a 16 cent per diem. And I do about 10 ,000 miles per month. What's your typical month look like? My typical month, I'm bringing in about$4 ,900 a month. Okay. Yeah. And net and everything? Yep. After 401K taxes, it's about$49. That's great. That's about$60 ,000 a month. Or$60 ,000 a year net. That's not bad at all. Okay. Cool. And then I also am a Navy reservist. Oh, what are you bringing in with that? $360 a month, but then they take out the health care for that, so it only feels like about$60 a month. Dang, really? Yeah, but it's only weekend, so.

1:58But then you're not getting health insurance taken away or taken out of your trucking pay. No. Because you're not doubling up. Okay. Cool. So what's going on, man? So I'm basically here to talk about my finances. I have disagreements with my wife about the money, and I'm just tired of fighting her on it and trying to make her understand. Well, hold on. What the fuck's the wife? She is at home with the kids. Oh, okay. Yeah. Well, how long have you guys been? Kids. Okay. How long have you guys been married? We've been married for seven years. Just last month. And how old are the kids? They are three and a half years old.

2:39Two? Twins. Okay. We've got twins. Disagreements with your wife. So you come here, but she's not here. So what are we settling with these disagreements? I don't think this is the most productive marriage conversation when one party is here. Right. Well, I mean, because I'm the spender when it comes to the finances. but she does a lot of pushback and I've tried to educate myself for the last couple of years on it. And she seems to fight me on every twist and turn when it comes to finances based off of my spending habits in the past. And so now I guess she has some reservations on that. Well, what does that look like?

3:14Are you guys just like endlessly fighting? What's happening? Sometimes. Well, no, what does the situation look like? If this is what we're talking about today, what does it look like? so i'll bring up hey let's maybe try to consolidate our debts let's take out a ten thousand dollar loan fifteen thousand dollar loan maybe consolidate our debts into one monthly payment with a low apr and she's like i will not do a ten thousand dollar loan we're gonna dig ourselves into debt we're trying to dig ourselves out of debt true and have you changed your behavior that got you there in the first place which a debt consolidation or something wouldn't necessarily do fun fact have your spending no you haven't but have you no okay so why would that be the option sounds like wifey might be righty why right well because we are paying our bills we are still paying our bills why don't have this conversation with her why are we why am i doing it just to you what are you trying to do because i'm trying to educate her because i've been trying to do oh you're trying to educate her i am you're the one that got you guys into debt you're trying to educate her yeah but okay so i've started this journey 10 years ago okay 10 years ago i started my years of getting into debt 10 years it stems back 10 years ago i didn't have any financial literacy no one did no one did oh there you go you've seen the show i have i've seen almost every episode but 10 years ago i started my first financial uh problem and the very next year it got worse and then the next year it got worse.

4:43So you're the one to educate the wife who has been financially disciplined and wants you guys to not take shortcuts that would get you in a worse place. I feel like I'm supporting wife. But like two, three years ago, I started learning about stocks and investing and budgeting and financing and things like that. What is learning about stocks, please tell me? Because there's a lot of things that people learn. So I like to watch a lot of YouTube and they'll be like, hey, invest a hundred. Well, careful, there's right or wrong places. But it's like, oh, take$100 invest in the S &P 500. And it's like, but I tried that and it was very slow.

5:15So I'm like, I'm not going to do that. So I did at one point, a couple, I'd say four years ago, three, four years ago, I did throw about$1 ,000 towards AMC because they're like, So you're the one to educate the wife on the household finances. AMC buyer. Well, yeah. And then I sold for a loss, but. So you're the one to educate. So what are you trying to have me do? Just tell the wife that, oh, and all this guy's right. I came on, Mr. Ted came on and you know, listen to him, he's the man he's so smart, big guy took a loss at AMC, listen to him well, what are we trying? well, to a certain degree, yes what's your intent?

5:52to a certain degree, yes, because it's like, I want to educate her but then I can't, and then I don't know, like I just

6:05I feel like I have the knowledge but I don't know how to knowledge you just but i don't know but i don't know how to put it into practice no what is your knowledge because your knowledge might be incorrect if we're applying incorrect knowledge we lead to a worse place so what is what is your knowledge my knowledge is well i watch a lot of financial stuff yes but there's good and bad i'm out on the road for 10 11 hours a day driving and so i'm listening to podcasts i'm trying to educate myself on it i'm trying and then i try to talk to her about it and she doesn't have any clue what i'm talking about she has no idea good because she wouldn't be buying amc i just just need you to help me build a case that so my wife can build a case on your behalf so far i know that you were the one that took the household into debt that you're the one that tried to start investing and bought into AMC and took a loss.

7:09What case am I building on your behalf? Just because you're a fan of the show, I'm not going to be on your side. But I understand the numbers. I do understand them. I just have a hard time putting them in practice because she pushes back. She will push back on any advice that I try to give. Some good, some maybe bad, but I try to educate her on some of the good stuff like a debt consolidation. but then when she pushes back, it does kind of put me in a... Yeah, like taking out a$10 ,000 loan to collect all of our debts into one at a lower APR kind of thing. But then it's like when you fight with somebody that you love, it puts you in that mood.

7:51Why is it a fight immediately though? Why is it not a conversation around this? She has always been, I guess, stressed about money and about finances. Her ex-husband would go behind her back frequently and take trips out on the road he was a truck driver before too how old is she she's 31 as well okay but uh he would wow she really likes that truck driving okay i guess so well or military because we're both kind of military i don't think he's a veteran but that's just my opinion he didn't go through boot camp i did but what did he do what do you mean well he was in the national guard but he never went to boot camp so people who don't go to national people who are in the National Guard and are not veterans?

8:33No, I think they are. If you're serving, if you've gone to the boot camp, if you've gone to DD-214, because at that point you're not really, in my eyes, my opinion, coming from somebody who served honorably for four years. He didn't serve honorably? He didn't. Nope, he got medical discharge. So because of medical discharge, he's not a veteran? Because he never went to boot camp. He never got a DD-214. It's going to be very interesting to hear other military people's thoughts in the comments. It would be. I probably upset a lot of people with that one, but that's just my opinion. You seem to have a lot of opinions.

9:06I do. Kind of. I'm very opinionated. Are they correct? The military one, I have no idea because that is not in my life. Financially, so far, it doesn't seem like it. In what case would I help you build? So you say you've been f***ed up for 10 years. What? You want me to start from the beginning? Oh, for f***ing sake. Okay. Well, I'll cut you off if I'm bored, but sure.

9:29Okay, so it started 10 years ago. When I bought my first car. And that's kind of where the debt is now is, is all these upside down. My first car. Yep. Our debt from now, 10 years later is from our first car. Because of poor financial decisions that I made. To be fair. Okay. Go on. The last two years I've actually been doing better financially. Yeah. Head down that road. Educating myself. But you wouldn't be here if you were doing well financially. So I don't know what the. You're right. Yeah. Go down that little road. Okay. So 10 years ago, I bought my first car. I was a Prius, and it was something that I knew I could afford because I was in the military.

10:09I was active duty. I had that consistent paycheck. I knew that that money was going to be coming in. So I had a$300 car payment, which wasn't terrible at the time. But then the following year, my wife's father passed away. And in that same week, my grandfather passed away. And my family, I guess we're emotional buyers when we get depressed. Oh, come on. Don't say you got a car because someone passed away. I traded my other Prius in for the notes. That's such a— It is. Listen, everyone does cope spending in certain things. That is like an ultimate— It is. But I justified purchasing that second vehicle because that money was coming in.

10:50I was getting a consistent paycheck. I wasn't going to get fired from the military. You don't just get fired from the military. That money is coming in regardless. So I knew I could afford it. it put me only about$100 in my checking account every single month after all the bills were paid because I was not making a lot. I don't think you could have afforded it then. You just mean you were able to make the bill. That doesn't equal afford. My financial education at the time told me, if you could pay the bill, you can afford it. Your financial education today is telling you to buy AMC. I don't give a shit at the time.

11:21I think you're pretty good. Yeah? Well, what are you doing today? How good is your retirement? I've got about$300 in it right now. Uh-huh. Yeah, your financial education is great. It is more now than it was in the past. Your retirement is more now? 300? 300. It used to be higher. So your retirement used to be higher. It used to be a lot higher. Okay. What happened? Did you gamble in it or did you take it out? No, I actually had to use a lot of that for gas and car maintenance. What the fuck? Okay, so you're the one we're listening to on finances today. Your financial education is a lot better today than it was in the past.

12:00I'm taking money out of my retirement for maintenance. I had to. Had. Please tell me had. So I was driving over the road. As you're trying to take out a personal loan and the wife won't let you because she knows how much you f*** up with finances. I haven't taken out a personal loan. I want to to maybe consolidate our debts. But to get to where my retirement, I had about$6 ,000 in my retirement. And when I left my over the road job, I took that retirement out. When? It was about June of last year. So this just happened. We can't use that. This is two years ago. Excuse anymore. This just happened.

12:35I was trying to keep our family afloat and pay the bills. And why weren't we? Because the local job that I had was not paid. Why didn't we have a full emergency fund? The person that we trust with our finances, the one who's learned so much more and has gotten so much better over the years. Well, because. Hmm. I think that person would have an emergency fund. The person I'm taking advice from for financial. You would, but you didn't. So why didn't you? I did once upon a time, Caleb. Oh, and then what happened? The person that we're trusting for financial advice. Probably blew it on Christmas or birthday for my kids.

13:08I thought you were going to say crystal meth, I'll be honest. No. I know we did a trip out to Arizona last year as well, and that cost a few hundred dollars. And we drove out there, got hotels, went through a lot of gas. But that was a couple hundred dollars. That was an emergency. No, it wasn't an emergency. But we used our emergency fund. Because my wife wanted to see her brother that would live down in Arizona and take the kids down. Which is an emergency. For her, it was because she doesn't see her that day. Was he dying too? Well, no. Okay. Then what was the emergency? It wasn't an emergency.

13:41Okay, so there wasn't an emergency. Yet, the one we are listening to for financial advice, used their emergency fund for a nice little family go away. Yeah. And then we didn't have an emergency fund. So in order to take care of the family, when an emergency happened, we pulled from our entire retirement, which, by the way, over the last year, last year you pulled out halfway through the year. Best year the S &P 500 has had this millennium. Millennium. And you lost half of that ability to gain the return. I did. Plus penalties, plus taxes. But I'm going to hear a but. I want to talk about why. I want to talk about why I spent all that money from my retirement for the gas and whatnot.

15:40We wanted it to be an emergency fund. It isn't. It's a start. It is a start. Why does the guy we're listening to Financial Advice only have$250 ,000 or margin fund? Because it's a start. When all of our money is essentially going to bills,$250. Why does everything go into bills? I know how much you spend on fast food. I know. Well, okay, but that is on the credit card. It's not coming from our checking account. It's coming from my credit card, which is. How was that better? The guy we're listening to for Financial Advice. How many times do I have to say that in this episode? Okay. What the f*** are you talking about?

16:12Go on. Okay. So I'm trying to. I'll try to not interrupt. I'll try to explain. So I want to talk about this local gig first that I had that kind of put us in this position where I had to pull from my 401k. That's not what put you in. But it did put us. It did. That is not the primary cause. It is linked. It is. It is linked. so we were spending

16:41$850 on gas when I was doing this local job just in gas to commute from my house to my job which was in Idle Falls and in Pocatello I had to go there every day it was local but I had to commute to the Home Depot where it was based out of that's not local it is I had to drive 30 miles to pick up the truck and then I would drive the local truck to local areas throughout the southeast. Oh, but it's not local to you. It is local to me. It's 30 miles away. 30 miles is local in Idaho? It is. It's pretty close too. Like, they hired me out of Brexburg. It doesn't have to be I don't know why they hired me.

17:21They should have hired me. Uh-huh. Yeah, and then 80 miles to get to Pocatello. It is local. I don't know these words. it's okay so from here to i don't know what 30 minutes texas is too big of a state for me san marcos is just over 30 miles away a completely different city for texas that is not local for texas okay whatever idaho is significantly you got a lot of smaller yes you have a lot of potatoes i know go on no you got a lot of smaller cities in between so rexburg is a hub idaho falls is a hub pocatelo is a hub boise is a hub twin falls doesn't mean the hub within the hub is local But they classify it as a local.

18:00Even if I were to get a local. Who's that? You? I had to drive 30 miles with a not very fuel-efficient vehicle to get to my job. Can I ask you a question? Yeah, what's up? I immediately am going to distract you. Why'd you keep that job? Why? Instead of mass applying for another job where you're not blowing money to literally work it. Well, it took me several months to realize how detrimental this job was. The guy we're taking financial advice from? Yes. So I got hired on with the assumption that the job was going to be paying$1 ,000 a week. Was it? No, it wasn't. After taxes, it was$900. What, did you forget that taxes didn't exist?

18:39Well, no, but I was assuming that that$1 ,000 would almost be net. Like they would pay me$1 ,100 gross and then$1 ,000. What did they tell you they'd pay you? They just said we could get you close to$1 ,000 a week. Sounds like you were close to$1 ,000 a week. And then they took out taxes, which wasn't much, obviously. government not them whatever and then and then they took out 25 a week for my 401k to invest into the 401k that i had with them but that didn't have to do you chose i chose to do it after about four months into it i decided to go ahead and start investing in it but it was paying me so i was paying about 800 a week after taxes okay so after taxes the 401k i was paying about $800 a week.

19:20We went from$900 to$800 by losing$25. I'm confused. Yeah, and then the taxes. You said$900 after taxes originally. So that's what it would – so they said that they would pay me close to$1 ,000, but I didn't – they didn't tell me that close to$1 ,000 meant$900. Uh-huh. So$900. You lost the week of income per month in order to have the job. So$800 a week is what I was getting paid. So$3 ,200 a month is what I was getting paid. We're paying$8.50 in gas every month just to fill up the car to commute to and from. And then my wife also, she works in Isle Falls, so she had to drive to and from. But we have two vehicles, so she would generally take the more fuel-efficient vehicle.

20:00But we would pay$8.50 a month on that. Then I had to pay$150 in maintenance every single month because of how much I was driving just to get to Isle Falls or get to Pocatello. Sounds like we apply for other jobs instead of losing our job. I can't. I couldn't. Not with that job. It was very— How many hours a week did you work? It varied. How many hours a week did you normally work? I would work between 25 to 30 hours a week, sometimes more. How many hours were commuting a week? Commuting a week, it would be round trip an hour, two, three, three hours. It'd be about seven or eight hours round trip commuting.

20:38So 40 hours a week is what you dealt with, and you couldn't apply for other jobs. I couldn't. I couldn't? Even though other people who work 40 hours a week apply to jobs? And here's why I couldn't. because the schedule would not allow me to so it would allow you to log into linkedin no it wouldn't now here's why though let me let me explain please let me explain i'm gonna let you try so i had to get up at four five o 'clock in the morning every morning start my job at 5 36 o 'clock in the morning okay okay so five in the morning then i drive to idle falls or i drive to pocatello and i start my day so why i couldn't apply for a job so yes it's five in the morning yeah okay so that's when you woke up what time did you wake up sometimes i'd wake up at four oh that's interesting but i'd get up and i'd drive and i'd come home sometimes one o 'clock in the afternoon sometimes i was working all the way till six seven o 'clock at night if i had a schedule like that where i'm working till six seven o 'clock at night nobody's gonna want to work another job want yeah want to i don't give a fuck about your wants i care about how you had pull out a 401k.

21:43But you also gotta spend time with your kids too. I'm not saying don't, but if you put an hour aside a day to apply for jobs, it's worth it. Okay, I could apply for another job, but what if I couldn't make it to my ship at McDonald's or at Burger King or whatever? I'm not saying pick up a second job. I'm saying a replacement job for the job that wasn't working. Because nothing pays as much as a truck driver. Yeah, but you lost an entire week of income. I did, but So I'm sure you could have found something that would have at least equaled the three hours. And that is what, maybe, perhaps kind of lost but then we have to pay more for babysitting costs because my wife would have to work i can't just go and work a second third job and nor can i say that i'm saying uh getting a different job listen buddy you lost this job in the end anyway and your entire complaint of this job is that you spent a week of income per month in order to maintain that job but then you lost it anyway but that's where adults look for a different job and that's what i did and now we have a new budget with the new job that i have budget yeah i've got a budget you have a budget I have a budget.

22:41Uh-huh. I'll admit, I do not follow it. The f*** you're talking about having a budget then? Well, with the credit card. I spend more on the credit card, but the budget, I do have one. And my wife and I, we do stick to it pretty rigorously. Do you? Yes, we do. That's very curious. Yes, we do. You could look at it. I just did. Can I have some money? I want some fake money. I'd like some fake money. We might go over once in a while. Money, please. Okay, we might go over once in a while. Look at this. but we do sometimes. Hey, you little tit. You know the household income. I know the household income, but I'd like you to disperse this.

23:20This is an infinite amount of money. So you essentially just have to take these stacks and disperse them into different categories. Label the categories. Tell me what, show me what your budget is right here. And by the way, the way you do it is stupid. it just use the simpler budget app by the way which you get i'm for free okay the premium version for free you and your wife will hook you guys up use it the audience they get a two-week trial i've got this is a very manual way to do it and obviously your budgeting is not working but go ahead okay so we budget seven hundred dollars label it just i'm gonna give you some time talk walk yeah you can talk me through it okay so seven hundred dollars for grocery good go ahead and put seven hundred dollars aside for it then go ahead label it up this can be your little grocery column.

24:05Okay. You know, put the post $700 for grocery. I don't have it all right here exactly, but it's close. You budget. You should know your budget. Well, I have it mostly memorized at this point because I look at it quite a bit. $803 is our mortgage. That's incredible. Yeah. VA home loan. I don't think that's what made the minimum payment low. Well, and it's also just a two bedroom condo. That's what made it low in the middle of nowhere. $803 for our mortgage. We have an HOA of$150 and 52 after the fee it's 150 so we got our hoa we have 150 that we budget out for utilities every month but sometimes it doesn't go that high sometimes it's significantly less but we we have it in there in case because it has gotten close to that before looking like a pretty healthy budget so far it is like oh i'm sure keep going and i've got it written down too but we we budget out$50 for a date night every month.

25:03That's cute. Keep the romance alive. You should. You should get away from the kids once in a while. Once you have kids, you'll understand how important that is to get away from them. We pay$80 a month to one of our doctors for the birth of our children. We still owe quite a bit on that. They're three and a half years old. They're three and a half years old, but they're million dollar babies. Yeah, when they were born, they were a million dollars. They spent time in the hospital and then labor and delivery and ambulance. What's wrong with them? They were two and a half months early. Woo! Wow! Yeah.

25:39So they were this big when they were born. And they were really tiny. They spent two and a half months in the NICU. I do have a subscription to a study app for my Navy job. Go ahead and put all your subscriptions into one. About 37 for all my subscriptions. very curious how necessary these subscriptions are when we're dying in debt go for it continue and then we got a$665 car payment for one vehicle and$562 for the other one$1227 $453 for gas but that might be off by a little bit because now I'm driving a different job and I'm not commuting as much. 453. And then I think our last big thing is childcare, which we lost our most recent, our cheapest babysitter, unfortunately.

26:34And so we spent about$1 ,800 a month on babysitting costs. I hear you're into 14-year-olds. I'm not. I'm not into 14-year-olds. What? Isn't that when you and your wife met? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I'm not into 14-year-olds, Caleb. I was 14 when... No, was I 13 when I met her? I was either 13 or 14 when... I was 14 when I met her. It's hard to think that I'm not into 14-year-olds, Caleb. That's sick and gross. And any adult who is into 14-year-olds should be shanked by the ball sack. If you're an adult and you're into 14-year-olds, get help, seriously. Like, that is beyond sick. Keep going. Okay, you made me lose track, Caleb.

27:17into 14 year olds. Are you kidding me? Sure. I mean, if you want to look at it that way, sure, I guess I am. She's still, I'm going to incriminate myself if I say that. I should probably not say stuff like that. She looks really young still. So, I should probably not have said that. I probably should not have said that. But she, she takes good care of herself. I think, oh, and then I do a credit card payment of$2.50 a month. Yeah, all your debt payments outside of your mortgage. $250 a month for my credit card. I think that's just about all the major things. I got all the subscriptions, gas. So this is your whole budget.

27:55This is your rate and budget. This is the budget you write. That I remember off the top of my head. I remember off the top of my head. These are the big things that I remember. Come on. What else do you budget for? We also pay a 1 % tithe to our church, which is about$60. You strike me as going to a very white church. Yeah. Most of us are. What kind of church? So my wife and I are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Oh, there it is. Yeah. We should be paying a 10 % tithing, but we can't afford a 10 % tithing off of the budget that we have with the debts that we have. Is that it?

28:29That would be$600 a month. I believe that is about it. So that's your whole budget. Cool. Good, good, good. Yep. So lay it out in front of you. That's your budget. Let's see. Okay. So our entire budget is what? uh 5 ,677 is what i got okay because you guys's household income was somewhere around there right pretty close to it should be yeah you spent 8 ,160 last month so incorrect incorrect incorrect incorrect what are you talking about follow this entire household budget the guy who's an expert in personal finances you spent double that you spent double you spent double so what is even the point i can explain why do you oh we can explain we have a budget we follow the budget we write down the budget we don't follow the budget okay so i'm an expert on my budget i don't follow it so a lot of it was on the credit card that i did spend we do on the checking account generally we keep it within bounds but the credit card i generally we keep it in we do what the fuck we don't overdraft we don't overdraft we've never gone negative instead we just spend double on a credit card but instead we just yeah we'll spend double and that's okay that's better that's okay I justified it because that month of statements that I sent you, there is a charge in there for$500.

29:46The car had to get new tires, had to get brand new tires. So that was a$500 charge that had to go on there that we now overspend on our budget. So$5 ,600. The interest that is likely accruing on these credit cards is just as bad as an overdraft fee. But we didn't have an emergency fund, so we did pay. Why didn't we have an emergency fund? Oh, because we're done when we go on vacation because we're the person that everyone should look up to for personal finances. I was spending a lot of money on gas and maintenance and, of course, No, not just that. It's because you didn't manage your money. Put$1 ,000 on there.

30:12Guess what? We're still within our budget. But you spent, in terms of what came in, on a better month than what you're saying, I'll be honest, probably because we're combining with the wife a little. But either way, you still spent$2 ,000 more than you made on a monthly basis, basically. Right. So what the f*** are you talking about? Why are you the one that I am supposed to back in the argument against you? We will call your wife later in the episode. Okay, we will. I will call her and I'll tell her. I did explain$500 of the$2 ,000. $500 of that was for the tires. 25 %! Well done! Of course I did eat out quite a bit.

30:46Being out on the road, it's a lot easier to... Why wasn't that in your budget? Well, this is pretty f***ing exciting for the world of financial audit. Something big, Mar. Download Simpler Budget today. I thought you had a little rent budget, guy. I do have a rent budget because we are paying the monthly payments on it. We are still paying the monthly payments on it. But the interest that is accruing is going to be just as bad as an overdraft fee in terms of monetary amount. my justification to do that and it's a terrible justification i get it but this is why i'm trying to educate myself and trying to get more knowledgeable i'm still in my infant stages of learning to be fair bullshit 10 years you're 31 10 years of infant stages learning 10 years of making a mistake seven years of being seven years seven years seven years of being married and combining a household income okay oh so you're just excusing your immaturity seven years of being married and combining a household income my wife actually got me on a budget i was really good with our money seven years ago because of so you've gotten worse the guy that i've got i've got i've gotten worse and part of the reason why i've gotten worse is because my paychecks have gotten bigger and lifestyle inflation is like i gotta find it why are we listening to you that is what it comes back to in this conversation because you want me to be your ambassador but i can't be i am not going to be your little mormon missionary to your wife it's not happening no but in the last two years like i said it's the infant stages of me being financially educated the last two years i'm trying to learn it but i have to undo a decade of financial mistakes is this what someone's brain is like who's never had coffee in their life yeah i don't drink coffee is this what happens we're not allowed to drink tea or coffee but yet we can have soda every now and then it's weird i I don't know.

33:21It's weird. Well, it's not that bad if you can't drink coffee when you get your own planet in the end. Planet without you on it. Why'd you come here then? Because I want to get more educated. More educated? You said you wanted me to be on your side. In person. I want to get more educated in person so I can bring a case to my wife to argue my case. Sounds like she already has the correct opinion. But she pushes back on a lot of things. Because your opinions are dumb. From a mistake that I made 10 years ago. No, no. You're trying to consolidate now, but you spent - Well, I'm not trying to consolidate now.

33:52It was just an option that I floated around a while ago. Oh, you are doing some revisionist history here compared to what you were telling us before, buddy. You were advocating it quite hard. You got into a huge argument. You wouldn't get into an argument and just floating an idea unless you are pushing for it pretty hard. That was when our finances were a lot worse than they were today. When the f*** was it? Why did you bring it up then? Because I was looking at maybe getting - Buddy, you pulled from your 401k just a few months ago. Yeah, I did. to pay for gas and maintenance in the car. Garbage disposal went out, so I had to pay for a brand new garbage disposal.

34:23Because you didn't have an emergency fund to go to a foundation. Nope. And then I had to... You can't change that now. There was another set of tires, too, that also went out, too. Sounds like we should have been applying to different jobs. And that's why I did. That's why I have a new job now. It took a long time. It did. You said you lost your job. I didn't lose my job. Okay, what did you say then? So I got a different job. So what was the issue then in that situation? So I was driving local. Because you weren't living paycheck to paycheck. You were not. I kind of was. You were not. With the budget that you laid out, even with the gas prices being higher, which you confessed were higher in your budget than they are in reality, you guys still had wiggle room in your budget.

35:00Yet even now with your finances making more money and everything and having to put more money in terms of gas, you still spend$2 ,000 more than you bring in. You had the wiggle room. You were still spending on bullshit, and you weren't willing to cut back because you're a child. Yeah, well, now I'm making more money now, so it should start to balance out. It should start to balance out. But I was still living in that mindset of I'm back on the road. I'm going to spend. I'm going to spend. I'm going to spend. I'm going to spend. I'm going to spend. And it's on a credit card that I've had for 12 years.

35:28So that's the one thing that my wife doesn't really have is the credit card. She doesn't see the credit card. She doesn't know what's going on in the credit card. I did come clean to her. She doesn't know what's going on in the credit card? I talked to her. So you're going on? I talked to him. I talked to her. Oh, what are we confessing? Is this a gay woman marriage? It is not I don't think you have twins do that Are you offended by the idea of Taking a dick? A little bit I mean I was in the Navy so Something wrong with that It's all gay underway Listen I don't care I don't care what you do or who you are You put a hundred people A hundred angry testosterone driven men in one room What are you confessing to right now?

36:13I'm not confessing to anything, but you're throwing a compliment or not compliment. What is happening? A remark. You're throwing a remark at me. Oh, do you have a problem taking dick? Well, no, I don't. No, no, no. But you were so insulted. But you get 100 people in a room. You were so insulted when I suggested that maybe you were with the dude when you said he. No. That's why. Is that it? There's a lot going on. A lot of finances going on. You might need to go wash yourself clean in the garden of Eden in Kansas. I probably should. I like Kansas, actually. I know. That's fair. But. All the good stuff.

36:50Where was I? Like, what were. I lost my train of thought. You want me to talk. I don't know, buddy. We lost it. You were talking about your wife. You called her a he. You got insulted that I suggested that potentially she was a he. What were you blaming your wife on? So, oh, yeah. So I had a conversation with her. I had a conversation with her about my spending. I told her when I knew I was coming on, I was like, hey, I got to come clean about what's been going on with the finances. She's like, are you spending on the credit card? I'm like, I am. And she's like, how much? And I'm like, more than I'd like to admit.

37:23And I think it's even more than I dared even look at. But I don't look at it as long as I pay the payment, the minimum monthly payment. I don't like looking at the credit card. And I use it as a justification to spend and eat out. But I did tell her I'm eating out quite a bit. Two, three, four dollars a month. Then what is this budget? What was the point of that? I told you to give me what is spent on a monthly basis. Your budget. Well, that's what's theoretically supposed to be spent. Remember when you had to pull from your 401k? You went on this vacation, right? Okay, so what was this vacation to?

37:56What was this so special? We went to Arizona for a couple of days. Arizona. So you only spent$250? On gas and hotels, it was about$250. But then we went to the Legoland with the kids. Oh, Legoland. So that's more important than a 401k. It's building memories with my kids. You don't have kids. You don't understand. No, but I do have retirement. I wouldn't pull for it for them because guess what? Me being able to take care of myself in my older age would be also important and more fun than a quick little experience that they wouldn't remember. Because they're barely in the memory. That is what I'm trying to do now.

38:25How many dollars do you have in your 401k right now? I've got about$300 in my 401k. Okay, shut the f*** up. You pulled out$6 ,000. It's better than some people who come on here. You pulled out$6 ,000. Trust me, you comparing yourself to other people on this show? I'm not trying to. You just did. But what I'm trying to say is there is something there, and it is coming back, and I am starting. Even a lot of the worst people on the show have$300 in retirement still. And I'm starting again with my new job. I am starting to reinvest in that 401k. Now, why do you have to start again? Why are we saying that word?

38:53Because when I left my job, I took out that 401k. Because? Because of gas and maintenance. Because we didn't have an emergency fund. Because I didn't have an emergency fund. For Legoland. For Legoland in Arizona. But because of Legoland, in the end, the math works out that Legoland, we took out money from our 401k for Legoland. It's essentially what happened in the end. And dinner, making memories with my wife and kids. Not memories for them. They couldn't remember. They're just entering memory stage of life. You'll be surprised at how smart a three-year-old is. I'm sure they can be smart when they know how to point out what a pen is or something.

39:23I don't know. That's exciting. But we know when people start forming memories and they're in that area. There's going to be pictures. It's really great. But they'll also really be able to remember when mom and dad are unable to retire. and they're putting their life on hold in order to fund you. I have a plan to retire, though. Oh, please tell me this grand wisdom plan. Because you've been so good so far at financial life. Does it involve AMC this time? It does not. Oh, good. It does not. Which new meme stock are we on? No meme stocks. I'm done with the meme stock. I did the Dogecoin when it first came out.

39:50Of course you did. But I only did$10. So it was like$10. If it goes up, it goes up. And it did. And then I sold it and I got like$12,$13 out of it. wasn't a big deal. But I did, that was many years ago. That was like five years ago, four or five years ago I did that, 2020. But my new plan to get us to a retirement now is with the job that I have now where I'm able to invest in my 401k on a regular basis. What about when the next vacation pops up? What if you want to go to the ancient holy land of upstate New York and show that with the kids? We are planning kind of like a staycation. We go to Boise every year.

40:26Every summer we go to Boise for a day, just a day. and we budget$150 for that trip. We do budget that. We may not be able to make that happen this year. We didn't go last year because of my local job. I'm investing in my 401k again with my new job. How much? It's 3 % with a 50 % employer match. And it only goes up to that 3 %? It can go as high as I can invest. That's not going to get anywhere, buddy. But I can invest 8 % of my check, and then they'll invest 4%. So they'll invest 50 % of the 4%. Okay, so they'll do 50 % up to 8%. Up to 8%. Why aren't you doing that? I can't afford it right now.

41:00I don't think you can afford the 3 % you do. I can because – You spend double what you make. No,$2 ,000 is more than you make. Sorry. But things are going to change. Oh, why haven't they? If they were going to change, why haven't they? Sorry we haven't gotten into the finances yet, but I got to break this man down. A lot of the reason why things haven't changed is because a lot of the pushback that I'm getting with my wife that we fight over these finances over – I'm not surprised. Look how we've had this conversation so far. Yeah, well, you're not my wife. You're being an arrogant prick though.

41:26I get that. Why act like you know what you're talking about? You wouldn't be on the show if you did. But she is so set against, and I get it, Caleb. I get it. Maybe you need to leave her for a man. Maybe. No. No, I shouldn't. He's insulted again. I joke about getting with her brother. He's a good-looking guy. Yes, it's a joke. They laugh about it so much. He's a good-looking guy. But, no, I don't swing that way. My dick doesn't get hard for other dudes. If it did, we would not be having this conversation. What? My dick can get hard for other dudes. What does that mean? I'm just saying. Wait, no.

41:57What does that mean? If my dick got hard for other dudes, do you think I'd be here talking to you? I'd be talking to your producers instead. Wait, what? And we would be in the back room doing something else. Oh, no. Don't think so. Now I'm getting insulted pictured at it. Oh. Also, not my preference, but I don't get insulted by it. Well.

42:19Yeah, no. Do you joke about that one as well? Lots of giggles? I've got lots of jokes. When I was in the military, they called me AJ for a reason. I'm just saying. But we're not going to. aj aj but by saying anything on a camera it might dox me so i probably probably what does aj mean you want me to tell you if you sure awkward aren't i so awkward aren't i so awkward well every time every time you saw a dude in the shower well i don't know i guess i would just stand in the shadows and they'd be like oh that guy's freaking awkward you were in the cut corner of the shower i i guess i don't know i i was very shy when i first joined the military i was very shy so i kind of like was reserved and i stayed back and they're like oh he's awkward they're they're weird people yes yeah they are but i'm trying to oh oh we're still gonna yeah i'm just trying to argue with her and i have financial are you sure she's actually even argued or have you just argued at her.

43:22Say that again. Sorry, Kevin. What do you think your financial score would be? Zero to ten, zero being the worst, ten being the absolute best? I would say I did do the test a year ago, and it gave me a two, and I'm going to disagree with that. Probably the mortgage. I'm going to say I'm at a two and a half. Okay. What makes that extra 0.5? He's actually proud of this. Look at him. I'm actually pretty proud of that because I do have a budget plan in place. I'm not following it. But it is there. So it is there. I have a plan. So I have a plan. Okay. So I have a plan. I have a good mortgage. There is something in retirement.

44:00What is the point of a plan without following it? To give you a roadmap for when you are ready to initiate. I don't know. Get a plan. You're so far off the road though, buddy. When I'm driving a truck, it's like I do a trip plan. Sure, I'll do a trip plan. but things can always go awry and things have to change. And that's so a plan for me isn't a hundred percent set in stone either. Cause there could be things that hinder that, but it is as good. It's still good to have a plan, right? Go on to hammer financial score. Take this quiz at Caleb hammer.com link below as well. And you can go to Caleb hammer.com slash apply.

44:38If you want to come on the show as well and tell me about your weird fantasies in the military, I'll listen. I don't have weird fantasies in the military. Uh-huh. Except blowing people up. It's my job. That's the kind of blowing you're doing in the military? You sure? Oh, sure. Okay, so we have a Navy Federal Credit Union. Remind us of all our good, awkward memories there. I also had to, in the credit card statements that you'll see, there are charges on there that my best friend accrued. But he... You didn't like weed or something? No. What are you... It was... Why does your best friend have your credit card?

45:16He's been my best friend. Well, he had information to my credit card. Best friend. He's my best friend. He's been my best friend for many years. We also make jokes with him as well. We do. He is very left-leaning, and I'm more right-leaning. So you're in denial. But he did have access to my credit card information. I let him use it for DoorDash, Uber in the past because I was making good enough money to be able to pay back. And he would pay me back, too. He would always pay me back. but he did have access to that. And there are charges in there that he made that I did not make. I had to tell my wife about those because she knew I was coming on this show.

45:50And I was like, I don't want you to see those charges and be like, those were mine because those were not my charges. I just want to ask, like, I want to ask the producers, where do they find people like you? Then I remember everyone on the show's in the audience. This is huge for financial audit. For a year now, my team and I have worked with experts to create what I truly believe are the three best educational programs in the financial space online. We have our budgeting program where I teach you how to create, manage, and revolutionize your budget and control your money. And then there's the investing program where I teach you to define what investing profile applies to you and your life and then teach what specific investing strategies applies to you in that situation.

46:33And now finally, we have our debt program where I teach you the best ways to pay off debt, manage debt, and even take advantage of good debt. This has been a revolutionary project that we've been working on for over a year now. And just like over 10 ,000 people who've already taken our educational programs, you can now take advantage of all three of them bundled together at a 15 % discount. I've heard from thousands of people now who've taken these classes and they've literally changed their lives for the better. And finally, you can too at a more affordable price. Head to Calebhammer.com or click the link in the description below.

47:08You will not regret this. This is crazy. I don't know how you find anybody in Idaho because - Well, why does your wife not know what's in your credit card? Because I use it as my credit card, my responsibility. So in reality, these DoorDashes, you're probably actually doing them. I'm not. And you're hiding them from your wife. I'm not. My best friend is doing them. But that's a weird thing. It is. He's my best friend. And then to hide it from your wife and have to tell her, wait I'm hiding some DoorDash orders but they're definitely not mine well they're not DoorDash I do DoorDash but in the past I would let him use it for Uber I'm coming on the show about the secret credit card that you have no idea what the purchases are and now conveniently guess what if you do see purchases on the show they're my best friend of DoorDashing yes this is all he doesn't have access to the card anymore the first Are you kidding me?

48:03The first purchase, are you going to say this is your friend? It is. Only F***s? It is. OF. It is. The OF. Because I don't have Only F***s. I don't. Sounds like someone in denial needing to look at something. Have you seen my wife? You haven't seen my wife. No. Okay. She is drop dead gorgeous. Okay. Let's see. I will tell you. Why would I ever? I will give you the brutal opinion of myself. Okay. Because that's how I live. Okay. Let me find a photo of her that I... OF. at the beginning,$19 that my friend... Oh, hold up. Sorry. Don't swipe. I thought there was going to be more pictures. No, don't swipe, Caleb.

48:42Thank goodness it was clothed. Yeah. I'm sorry. You're right. I shouldn't have done that. Yeah, don't swipe. I'm instinctually a swiper for more pictures of her person. If you want... That was the closest thing to a Mormon nude that there is. She was wearing jeans. I will get you her Facebook instead, and then you can see more Caleb. jeez i saw her jeans it was just jeans guys it was i mean yes she is very attractive to men attracted to women so if you want to scroll through on her facebook all her photos i mean not my personal type but that's okay it doesn't matter i can see um men who are interested in women being attracted to her yeah so why would i want to indulge in that yes why would you why would i here's the thing too caleb what you got to understand is i don't pay for sex i don't pay for sexual explicitly material i don't pay for that on top of your credit card that are conveniently now that your wife has seen it for the very first time that is my best friend's credit card purchase it is uh-huh the reason if i don't call him in the post show will he confirm it he's at work oh he's at work he's at work people can't take calls it work well he probably could but we probably could call him but so i can call him we probably i can call him and he will confirm this well he should he should because he said he purchased he did he did i don't pay for that i don't because if i did if i if i did if i did yeah i don't i never went to a strip i never went to a strip club in the navy my justification is if you want it you You can get it for free online, okay?

50:21You can get it for free online. Yeah. You can. So why would I purchase that? It's on your credit card, buddy, not mine. Because he had access to it. He doesn't have access to it anymore. Thank God because he said he will pay me back next month for that. He did. Why is the card hidden from the wife then? I was pretty upset. Why is the card hidden from the wife? Because of my fast food purchases. That's why. Yeah? Yep. Yep. You cannot believe me all you want. Oh, I'm going to call him and find out. Right? Right. Yes, 100%. 100%. $8 ,837.26 with a minimum monthly payment of$215.77. Purchases of$1 ,323.33.

51:14That's insane. All for the OF. It's not. But it's not. Normally, I would say for the Titi. I just don't think it's that case. You can go through it, and you'll see that not all$1 ,000 is because of that. $500 of that is for tires for the car. Then there's like$300,$400 for eating out. There is a subscription. What were you watching eating out? I wasn't watching anybody eating out. I was eating. I was eating at the truck stop. I was eating the Arby's or the McDonald's or whatever. I don't know. People probably get pretty bored when they're parking at night in the truck. They do, but that's why I have my wife who we video call, and we will do that on a video call.

51:54Why would I indulge in that if we can video call? Why would you hide it from her? Only the fast food purchases. Why would you only... Only the fast food purchases. Only conveniently the one that gets us in less trouble. But I came clean about the fast food purchases. About the fast food purchases. And then I'd let her know, too, that he had access to that card. She's known that he's had access to that card. Listen, buddy, telling your wife about, like, seeing the Nair video on, you know what that is, on OF is better than getting, like, a lot lizard. It is. It is a lot safer in theory. In theory.

52:34I would say in action. But it's also, it is dishonest. It's unfaithful to do that to your wife. OF or a lot lizard. The OF and the lot lizards both. I've actually Oh my gosh guys I've actually been approached by a lot I have been approached by a lot One time It was in Amarillo But I said I had no money And she went on her merry way If I open up your browser choice And go to the website of the OF Are you telling me there will not be a login And there will not be an autofill There shouldn't be Shouldn't be I'll show you I'll show you. I only use a web browser of the Google internet browser. Yeah, I don't want to get demonetized.

53:21We can check that in the post show. You want to check in the post show? In the post show.

53:27We might have to check every browser. How long do you think this takes the payoff? I only have that one browser. How long do you think this takes the payoff only doing the minimum to payment without purchases, without OF purchases, which there are endless? I don't OF purchase, Caleb. On this credit card, there's a lot. There is, but that was from my best friend. Of course it is. But either way, without the purchases, only the minimum payment, which is what you're doing, how long does it take to pay off? Minimum monthly. Because you have a retirement plan. I do. 25, 30 years. 25, exactly. So you will be?

53:5950. 5. 56. 6. 3 years from being able to take money out of our tax advantage retirement account. Yes, we are. Our plan is working so well. O.F. McDonald's. Chick-fil-A. O.F. That's my best friend. O.F. That's my best friend. Burger King. Yep, that was me eating out. Chick-fil-A. Eating out. O.F. is your best friend with how many purchases is this? I agree. O.F. Why would I pay for that? O.F. Okay, but why would I pay for that, Caleb? Why would it be on the credit card of yours? Because my best friend had it. McDonald's, of course. Yes, yes, yes. And he was - Grandview Country Store. O.F. Grandview Country Store.

54:38O.F. O.F. O.F. O.F. OF! OF! OF! OF! We mixed it up and went to Express Amusement and Jails Cause and Chick-fil-A and Arby's, but we're back, baby! We are! OF! Blue Jacketer! That's not the only thing that's blue-jacked on this statement. Blue Jacketeer is a Navy app for me to study for my job. And that is a necessary part. And then you studied what men's assholes look like on OF! McDonald's! McDonald's loves winning and gossip bullshit. Got some bullshit. Got some bullshit. Carl's Jr. McDonald's loves Hardee's. You do love those Hardee's, don't you? I like Hardee's. Hardee's is good. I know you do.

55:21And Carl's Jr. and Chick-fil-A. I like eating out, and I have my reasons for it. Of course I do. In both ways.

55:34I love my wife. McDonald's, stinker. Eating out the stinker. That's a gas station. Minion got some BS. McDonald's. We're back, baby. OF. OF. Got some BS. Stinker McDonald's. I was pretty upset when I saw that because I know my friend. Typically, my friend shouldn't have been spending that much. And he did. And he did. And I'm upset, but he said he would pay me back. So. $238.86 of our friends. OF. And he's paying that back as soon as he gets his tax return. For soon. I don't know exactly when, but probably about that time. It's tax.of. and he doesn't have access to the card anymore because his phone blew up, so he doesn't have that credit card information.

56:15Oh, his phone blew up, so we can't call him? Well, no. He got a new phone but lost the credit card that was attached to it, so he doesn't have that anymore. We're good. We're good. So he doesn't have that. So now the only purchase that should be on my credit card are FastFace. Wife, I think you have an interesting conversation. Oh, wait. I think we're calling her later in this episode. Spotify, Arby's, went and got some BS, GameStop, Spotify is important. Vending machine. I would do Spotify in your position. I get it. Winning's I got some BS. Winning's I got some BS. Winning's I got some BS. Interest$127.77.

56:50That's insanity. In just one month. And you're afraid of overdrafting, but you're accruing interest for OF. That my friend is going to pay me back for. But it is still on your card regardless. I know. I get it. Even if I believed you. I know. You should believe me. I think a Mormon has a lot to lose. We do have a lot to lose. That's why those are not my purchases, Caleb. The fast food is. The blue jacketeer is. Okay. The car. Yeah, get her on the phone. Call my wife right now. Sure. And tell her what. I think I'm going to talk to her. All right. We can try. She might be on her way to work. We'll double call.

57:29Put it on speaker. Yeah. To me.

57:39Hello, wifey. How are you? not too bad i'm on my way to work cool so i think we gave you a heads up that we might be calling you since this conversation involves you just a quick little mormon conversation real quick if we could um i know he hid this credit card from you right his special little credit card and the purchases on it right yeah part of it he did and i was like not happy about it because it happened I think like twice. Twice? Okay, wow. That's great. So he seems like a man who hides things sometimes. Yeah, I mean, he only did it twice, but every time it was like devastating because I'm like...

58:19Well, twice is a lot. Did you confirm... I think he was like, I'm ashamed to tell you. I'm like, yeah, but you've got to be honest with me because if you're not, that's going to hurt our marriage more. It will hurt our marriage and like, I don't need that. I don't want that and I don't want a merch to be based on that But I know like he's trying His best to do better and that's why I know he's glad He's out there because I feel like he It's like I need this from him and I'm like I think you do too So he's A perpetual hider of things And lying about the Things he is hiding So of these two times after you Confirmed at him the first time he's making a shocked face How are you Pikachu facing me after What we just went through are you kidding me after what she just said Come on but I'm talking to wifey on these conversations on the things that it's do you know the purchases on this credit card?

59:09I know of most like the big ones I know of those like what? I'm going to say he's a perpetual liar though he's only done that twice that's a pattern especially after confronting the first time and then he does it again but either way so you know some big purchases on here what purchases on this credit card that he's hidden from you? I think like most of like the fast food habit, I know that that can be a bad habit of him. Has he improved over the years? Yes, he has. I've seen improvement. I know that when he's out there, we have like a rule of like, you can eat out like once a week. I eat out twice a week.

59:45The only reason I do it twice is because my job will pay for it. Well, I think he's, unfortunately, I do need to let you know, I think he's imagining eating something else out because he spent almost $300 on this credit card on only. He said that that was his friend. He sure did say that. That is my friend, Caleb. After he... I trust him on that. I know. I want to. Okay. Okay. So, this entire conversation here, he came into this saying he wants me to be on his side to show, to show you that we should be listening to him for his financial wisdom, for his financial plan for the household. But literally, he hasn't said one thing that actually makes sense.

1:00:33He's the one that pulled from his retirement fund. He is the one that invested in AMC. He is the one that is spending$2 ,000 than the household brings in on a monthly basis. I don't know what to do in this conversation. This phone call was supposed to be the phone call where I honestly kind of confront you and say, hey, I think it's time to listen to this guy. But I don't know what to do with this guy in front of me because he does nothing right with finances, but all he does is argue to you about finances. So, Caleb, so I'm driving the Toyota Camry right now. We've had this card for about, gosh, I don't remember, five maybe years.

1:01:10And the thing that I'm really pushing is him is I want to keep it because, Caleb, this card will be ours in two years. We've sung so much money into it, so much time into it, so much effort into it that I think it'd be stupid at this point to get rid of it when I trust her. She's reliable. Like, I want us to have two reliable cars. Why? Because he has to go to drill every week. One weekend per month, he goes to drill. I want him to be safe. If he's driving the car to Doug Andrus, that's fine. It's only 30 minutes. And, I mean, I commute to work every day, except for Thursday and Sunday. Usually, I don't go anywhere those days.

1:01:43But I'd like to keep her. The Corolla, that's a huge mess. But the Camry, I'd like to keep her. And he's like, well, I don't want to because what if we need a cheaper monthly payment? Yeah, we get a cheaper monthly payment, but we might run into the same things that we did with the CRV that we had. I ended up sinking$3 ,000 into it that I could have used to go to school. I had to use it on the CRV and stuff because that SUV we had was dying. I want to keep this car, but now I don't even know. I don't know if it's stupid for me to want to keep it or smart. I just know that we almost own the thing, and I know that once we own it, we won't be upside down as much.

1:02:15I don't want to continue to be upside down in cars. I don't want to do it. Well, I'm trying to get through to him. You know him more than me. You guys have been together for a while. You guys have kids together. Are you crying? No, I felt a little bit irritated. I'm kind of losing my voice a little bit. I'm okay. Okay. So I want to just know just how you think I should approach this conversation from everything you know because everything we have talked about, he has acted so arrogant. He has acted like he is the person of superiority on this subject and that he just, he's right. He's right on everything.

1:02:51Right on everything. What do I do here? So, yesterday, I'll be honest here, we did have an issue with this. I felt like my feelings didn't matter. And, you know, my husband, he can't be arrogant. He can't have a pride problem. I've tried to stem it. If I'm with him and I'm actually next to him, it's easier for me to stem it and cut it off. But I'm not there. I'm in Idaho right now. and you know I've told him I'm like he told me that he wanted to go into this listening and the other day we kind of had an argument in the morning where he was like well he's probably going to tell us this I'm like you don't know if he's going to tell us this you don't know if he's going to tell us that and I'm so set on this because this car we almost own it it's almost ours yeah we pay out the ass for it but it's almost ours because he's not French I'm like he's like then what's even the point of going on the show I'm like it's because I know that he could help us and that's why he said he wanted to go and he didn't want to go and I think to argue with you he wanted to go in so that you could give him advice so you could help him so I don't know why he's being so arrogant difficult I don't really know but I wish that he would shush his mouth and listen to you because you're a professional in this I love Braxton and I don't want him to feel bad when I'm saying this but he needs to set cool it and listen and whatever you say we can try to go with that I don't know why he's being on you this much um but I know that you can have an arrogance problem, right from, because everything is right, but it's not, because I have an opinion, and like, yesterday I felt like my feelings, didn't matter my opinion, didn't matter, I'm like, I'm not a 50, since they're going in, and what's going on, I just want to be a part of that, I just want to be a part of it, because I'm not going to be treated, like I'm a housewife, I have a mom, and I also work, and it's the 21st century, so like, I'm not going to be treated like, this is the 50s, and I can't say anything, and like, yeah, my religion, like we're Mormon, and like, I'm not good at like I'm not traditional I'm not traditional I love my faith I love being a Mormon but I'm not like this super submissive quiet type that just kind of lets things happen no I want to be a part of it and I want to know what's going on because if I don't know what's going on it's going to make me anxious it's going to stress me out because I'm like I'm making money too I want to make sure that we're okay whatever's going on we can figure this out like it's really stressful with these cars especially I've learned four things from this conversation.

1:05:12You guys fight all the time about money. He's pretty arrogant. His friend purchases a lot of OnlyFans. And he and all his male friends giggle and make jokes about being gay together. So there's interesting little things here. But this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to get you guys both on the Simpler Budget app. I think that is going to be good. Help you manage this a little better with the automatic connections. Go through the financial education together. I'm going to gift you both all of our debt class, our budget class, our investing class. You guys are going to go through all of it together.

1:05:45You get it for free. I'm going to have him go to therapy. If he's not already, I'm going to give him three free therapy sessions with our partner at Sondermind. So there's a lot of resources and stuff here, but hopefully he comes back with a plan. We're going to make a plan by the end of this. I hope if we can make it through this episode. But that's what I've learned so far. And then on the little naughty little subject of that OF, I'm going to call his friend in the post show. and actually make sure it is and we will let you know the answer. Okay? All right, yeah, I just, I don't know, like, because my husband, like, he told me, he's like, I want advice.

1:06:22I want to be grilled because I feel like if I'm grilled, it will help me get more into, like, mind of my finances, but it sounds like the opposite is happening here. I'm not there, so I can't really know 100 % for sure, but it sounds like he's being really difficult for you and I wasn't expecting that. Well, here's the thing. It's not just him. It's basically everyone that comes on the show. People come on the show, they're on camera for the first time in their life. They're just normal people. And also it's the first time they're getting real pushback. And I go pretty hard. And naturally that can oftentimes have people, you know, kind of bring out that side of them.

1:06:56But by the end, I like to see that finally start to make it through. And that's what I'm hoping to see with him. But we'll do that, okay? I'm going to... Yeah, because if he's hearing me right now, I don't want him to be super pissed at me. Yeah. I'm going to have him pull up his magic underwear, and he's going to face this like a man. She doesn't like being hung up on. She doesn't like it when I do that. Okay. So that's interesting. Let's talk about the cars. Let's talk about them and why they're the mess that they are. Which one is the one that she specifically really cares about? The Camry.

1:07:35so that's probably that one right there okay let me start this one first okay and we'll get to that so this is a 2022 toyota corolla yep so as many of you know i've been a big supporter of course careers for a long time i'm not just a partner i actually own stock and i'm an investor so why did i partner with course careers because i truly believe in what they're doing a lot of people have questions about online certifications versus traditional college degrees let me be clear i I wouldn't put my name behind something unless I knew it worked. The thing is, not everyone has the time or resources to spend four years in college or take on massive student loan debt.

1:08:11Horse Careers offers a practical, affordable way to launch a career in a high-demand field like tech sales, IT, and accounting, where companies are hiring based on the skills needed, not broad college degrees. In fact, right now, one in three companies are dropping degree requirements, and that number is only going to continue to grow. I know some people think online programs are a quick fix, but that's not the case here. Course Careers takes effort and commitment, but they provide you with a streamlined, proven path. They offer up-to-date, self-paced courses, one-on-one or group coaching from people that work in the industry, and most importantly, they help you actually get hired.

1:08:48Just look at graduates like Nemeso, who went from driving FedEx trucks to a cybersecurity job at Disney. That didn't happen by chance. He put in the work, and Course Careers guided him every step of the way. And what truly sets Course Careers apart is that it's not just about learning skills, it's about landing a job. Their curriculum is designed based on what employers actually need, and their network of industry coaches will guide you through the entire process, from learning the skills to interviewing, resume help, and beyond. So if you're serious about starting a new career without wasting years or piling up debt, give Course Careers a try.

1:09:21Start with their free intro course linked in the description to explore your options. And when you're ready, use the link in the description for$50 off the full course. Your future starts right now, and Course Careers is here to help you shape it. All right, we owe on here$34 ,323.45, with a minimum monthly payment of... $562. Oh, yeah, that's, I mean, that's kind of money. $562.26. Yep. Okay. With a 7.5 % interest rate, so you're barely keeping up with the market, even when I buy the overall market in the investing app I use, MooMoo. It's not getting that. I mean, it's getting a little more than that, but with depreciation and everything, it doesn't even matter.

1:10:08How much is this car worth? I think I just looked at it the other day. It's only worth like$20 ,000. It's worth$20 ,000. So you're underwater by$14 ,000. And I will explain that. Okay, so we were driving a$20 ,000. 2010 Honda CRV that was my beater car to get me to and from my long haul job that I had at the time I was driving a 2010 Honda CRV just to get me to and from I don't fall as mech like boom boom junky beater car that's only commuting a little bit of miles and then it started to run into problems with how much I was driving and then with the local job with the 800 miles that I was or 800 worth of gas I was putting in and all the miles I was putting on all the maintenance it was costing us a lot like we had to spend three thousand dollars on a car repair for it so to be clear we had to get a nearly forty thousand dollar car that's the only option i my justification behind that was getting a more reliable vehicle i like reliable do i like forty thousand dollars i don't like it either and that's why i was trying to negotiate with the dealership to get it as low as we maybe we talked them down from 800 to 500 so i mean 800 hours a month they probably extended the fucking turn yeah they did but that's not talking them down they made more money but to me They made more money.

1:11:20In my mind, it's less money going out. It is, but that's how people justify longer terms and paying more money. That's the position that I'm in right now where the finances are the way they are. That's the position you put yourself in. Exactly. No, no, no, but it's not correct. Don't try to justify being correct. So it cost$3 ,000 to fix the car. It had all those problems. It had$3 ,000 to fix it. I'm not saying do that. And then the problems started to come up again like two months later. And it's like, I don't know how much I can keep putting$3 ,000 onto this car. Not much more. I wouldn't say to.

1:11:48I'm not defending that. I need something safe and reliable. But you went to$40 ,000. We did. The reason why we did that is for reliability and less in gas, less in maintenance. I know why you did it. It was a dump decision. I get it. Now you can't even sell it and borrow the difference. Probably not. Maybe with the Camry, but not with that. My wife wants to keep the Camry. So we're kind of stuck with this for a couple of years. At least a couple of years. Yeah, we'll see. And the interest rate's brutal. The minimum of the payment is brutal. When did you get this? I got it in November. Veterans Day.

1:12:27$14 ,000. What a way to treat a real veteran.

1:12:33We did something that was going to be reliable. That was going to get me to my next drill. That was going to get me to my job. And I knew I could pay it because I was getting a different job at that point. $14 ,000. in the hole on this car and just what what is it four months it's four months oh my that's that's the problem that i've run into what was your shopping what did you even do did you shop around i i went online to see kind of like i wanted to get another prius to drive because i know that they're good on gas and they're good on maintenance and they last a long time and there was nothing on the lot so they rolled up with i guess their cheapest vehicle and i guess it wasn't and they so did you go to another dealership no but we oh you we no no no wonder why you got an expensive way but we did try to push back on it and that's why we did it doesn't matter it doesn't matter you got the term extended and you're paying more interest long term my mindset is the smaller the smaller the bill it's broken yeah no it's the smaller the bill that goes out the more we're able to afford it if yeah or you could have done half the term, same minimum payment, same interest rate, half the price of a car, and you would have been fine if you shopped around.

1:13:45You didn't shop around. You didn't put effort into this. I did, though. No, you said you went to one dealership. I did, but I did go to one dealership, but I did look at it. And they brought out the cheapest. Because I wanted, there was a certain car that I was looking for. I wanted a Prius. They didn't have a Prius. So you go to a different place. I probably should have, Caleb, but you know what? When you have a mindset. My concern, you already did this. I'm not going to bash you for doing this that's not what i'm doing here what i am concerned about is it is not getting through to you you are still willing to justify him meaning the next time you fall into this position you will do the exact same thing not anymore i don't think so based on your language well i'm trying to get that's why part of the reason why we come here why i came here that's why i'm here get a guidance essentially i need i'm trying and you're trying to defend it this is why i also tried to get on a year ago and i didn't get on a year ago if i would have gotten on a year ago there may have been a more clear path forward our beautiful producer lindsey wasn't here i know she wasn't here you can't explain i can't explain i tried finances were a lot better we needed a navigator at that point they were better finances they were better probably why you weren't on the shot but i have a plan i have a plan i want to say i have a plan your magical special plan step by step give me the plan in bullets from beginning to end what the plan is so i got my new job with a 401k for retirement that i'm setting aside how much three percent with a one percent match well 1.5 because it's 50 of what i invest so 4.5 so that's going to start saving over retirement we are going to try to stick to our budget okay that's our plan is try to stick to our budget.

1:15:50Yep. Try to stick to our budget, which I laid out, which we... Your income on a monthly basis again is what? Well, it's... $4 ,900, right? With the new... Pre-taxes? Pre-taxes? After taxes, about$4 ,900. Pre-taxes? Yep. And then my wife... Pre-taxes? Pre-taxes? How much? Pre-tax, I bring in...

1:16:12About$5 ,400. Okay. Keep going. Okay. My wife is going to be starting phlebotomy school. this year? Lobotomy school? Phlebotomy. Plasma. Needle in the arm. So my wife wants to start phlebotomy school.

1:16:33And then we also have a plan to set aside excess funds to tackle. Yeah, what is that plan? I'm having you talk about the plan. Don't say a part of the plan is a plan. Okay, well, I mean, the plan. Oh, don't put that away. You're writing out your plan. I need to see what this looks like. To tackle debt this year. You have how much in retirement again? Remind me,$500? I've got$300. Right. Or it might be$400. Excess funds to tackle the debt. And, I mean, this is a plan that we've got for the next. That's your plan is you have a plan. Well, the plan is to my 401K is getting invested in. We're going to stick to our budget.

1:17:113 % plus 1.5. Yep, we're going to stick to our budget this year. You're going to try to stick to your budget is what you said. It's really hard when you're out on the road and you're driving 10, 11 hours a day. and the last thing you want to do is cook a meal and then clean up after it. That's the last thing you want to do. And I don't have a kitchen. So when we put our little happiness... I don't have a kitchen in the truck. So when we put our little happiness over our kids' future, would you like to know, by the way, how much you'll have in retirement? I'll tell you. If it follows the market, if the market continues, about$300 ,000 a year.

1:17:37Or$300 ,000 by the time you retire. $300 ,000. That's not enough for you and your wife. Not enough yet, but that's assuming no raises either. That's assuming no raises, but this is where your plan has you. Fine. Fine. Let's assume an extra 1 % just for raises. Compounding. Cool. You got the$371 ,000. Which is something. Sure, but that's worth$150 ,000 today. That's what your entire retirement would be according to your plan. It's a plan. That's not. Yes, you're right. That's a plan. It's a dumbass plan. Coming from zero over there. It wasn't zero. It was like$9 ,000 or something. It wasn't zero.

1:18:11Well, close to zero. Nope. It was$9 ,000. Take that. If you don't add anything else, keep that 8%. Let's just do general market. You add about$9 ,000 in retirement. That within itself would have been$83 ,913. Not nothing. And then part three, remind me part three of the plan. Is this your entire plan? It's the bulk majority. There are other plans to get more money. Oh, there's plans, plans, plans, and the plans of the plans. So say part three one more time. I have it here for the camera. So the wife to start school and earn more money. That's part three right there. That's our entire three-part plan is 4.5 % to retirement, wife starts school, excess funds to tackle debt.

1:18:59As we pay down our debts, I can start putting more towards our retirement. I probably would. Part four of excess funds tackled to the debt doesn't exist if we don't follow part two, which is stick to our budget. Even if you get more money from the wifey, if you don't follow the stick to our budget, there is no excess funds, and you spend$2 ,000 more than you make. This plan seems to be broken. I think part zero of this plan is learn how to budget first. I'm trying to learn, and the stuff that I'm trying to learn, I can't teach her because she doesn't understand it like I do. She doesn't understand the math.

1:19:37That's why you're going through the budgeting class together. That's what I want her to do. I want her to take it with me because maybe then She could see it maybe then She will understand it and I hope she does Because I'm tired of fighting her with Fighting her on this well it shouldn't be It shouldn't you are fighting At her I can tell from your personality Okay Agree to disagree I I think She did say that I am pretty prideful I am And a lot of that does come she said the same thing I did Yeah she said who would have thought Well about that I'm pretty prideful and arrogant And I am. Who would have?

1:20:11A lot of that comes from my military background. I like to tout that. I've got the best job in the Navy. So, of course, I am prideful. What, the cut corner? No. I build bombs. Cool. For the aircraft. Please don't leave one here. Have you seen Top Gun Maverick? I haven't, but... I was on that ship, so... Good, good, good. Oh, this is the one she wants to keep, but it's 17 ,000? Yeah, that's the one she wants to keep. Okay, 26. Okay, so this is a Toyota what? Toyota Camry. Camry, year? 21. Okay, minimum monthly payment is$332? No,$665. That's a biweekly payment? So I paid a little extra when we first got it, and so I messed it up a little bit.

1:20:56So$665.98 is a minimum monthly? Yep. Okay, well, I don't know if I 100 % agree with her. You might both be wrong. Never mind, it's worth$191. If we're both wrong, please educate me. It's worth$19 ,000. Yeah. No, I'm selling this using$2 ,000 of it, borrowing$8 ,000 and getting a$10 ,000 car that you shop around for and get approved by, like, two mechanics. She will not want to get rid of it. Well, maybe that's why she's not here, and maybe you guys aren't compatible. We are compatible. Financially. Financially, maybe not. Also one of the leading reasons for divorce in this country. What is the interest rate on this car?

1:21:36It's 4%. I like that part. It might be 2%. Wife, if you're hearing this, we can take this from a$17 ,000 debt to an$8 ,000 debt that speeds up our entire process. You are dramatically behind on retirement. I would sell this. I hope she does. I'll let her know. Well, show her this, right? She won't watch it. Why? She thinks you're an a**hole. I am. She will not watch it. Why? Because she thinks you're an a**hole. That's not a good reason. That's still correct what I'm saying. That's why she's refusing. Okay, well, just show her this part and tell her to stop being a little baby. I will. I'll show her this part.

1:22:13Okay. It might be a 2 % though on the interest rate on that. 2 %? 2.7 or 2.9 or something. Yeah, I mean, that's delicious. We've got a good interest rate on it. Okay. I see a checking account here. Nope. Yes. Yes. Checking 2 ,791. Which is super afraid of overdrafting? I don't want it to ever hit zero. My mentality, if I see zero, it's gone.

1:22:42What's her current job? She works at Chick-fil-A. Okay, and she wants to do the blood thing? Yep. I was going to gift her a course career certification. You know I love them, but I don't think they have one for that. They're more trades-related and tech-related. The bottom is kind of a trade, but they probably don't have it. Well, they probably don't have that. They probably don't. I'll talk to my boys over there. okay we got an apple bill apple bill common sense that's a gas station and apple bills are fat cats fat cats is a movie theater 32 dollars okay we had to go venmoing out 52 dollars where the fuck does that go then chick-fil-a i think she's supposed to be making money from them the venmo might be to a baby mcdonald's what but you have the child care of like...

1:23:26We pay our babysitters through Venmo. Okay, McDonald's, Amazon, Amazon, Amazon, PayPal out, Mint Mobile. That's good. I'm glad you do that again. Okay, cool. And Clip National. Clip National? Let me see. $5.20. CTLP National. Enter. That's the one at the bottom. Is that the bottom? Sapros Denny's. I think you... Not 100 % sure. Invenmo at$88. Pull up your Amazon. Let me see. Might be Venom machine or something. I don't know. I assume she's going to the school and it's not going to be free, correct? It's... We're going to use our tax return to pay for it. Well, okay. You got some child tax credits.

1:24:12How much is coming in? We get$4 ,000 for... How much is school? It's$4 ,200. Okay. That's if you actually use it for that. You spend$2 ,000 more than you make on a monthly basis. At some point, that'll catch up. I hope the tax return can go to that. In fact, a lot of people... Exactly. And then the rest of it, we're probably going to charge on the credit card. So how are you... So she can get through school and make more money. Credit card on a... Or school on a credit card? Come on, even Sally Mae loans are half a credit card interest. Should we look at maybe a small loan then for that? Or...

1:24:48I don't know. What kind of school is it? Is it... It's a community college. I think it's a community college. Okay. You should apply for federal loans. I mean, you have some pennies, right? They can pass over? No? I used them. Oh, you already did. I used them for my job. Fair enough. Okay, yeah. Some federal student loans. I'll talk to her. Well, it's better than a f***ing credit card. I agree. We just don't know how to finance it. That's why we're thinking about using the - Federal student loans. Okay. And if you don't get approved for that, even Sally Mae, which I hate - Yeah, but we don't know anything about student loans.

1:25:18What do you mean? Well, you're the guy that knows everything about personal finances. You're the expert, right? I'm not. I never. You don't know that student loans exist. Well, we don't know how to navigate them. You've never looked it up. I've never had to take out any student loans. Doesn't matter. We're talking about putting a school on a credit card. So usually that would imprompt me to look up something. I look up everything. I'm always looking it up. Why do people not look things up these days? Do people not care to be informed? A lot of people are financially arrogant. Oh, are they? Or they're confused and they don't know.

1:25:46Are they? They? They? A lot of people are. A lot of people? What these people be?

1:25:55Backpack, backpack. That's for our kids. I assumed as they were covering flowers. We are looking at moving back closer to our parents so we can save on child care. To have the parents watch how far away. Wait, but you own the home, right? We do have a mortgage, but to have our parents watch the kids for free, that will significantly cut back on the child care. Okay, let's talk about that in a second. Pokemon. Is that for the kids too? That's for the kids to watch. Yep. They watch. You look like a Pokemoner. I watch a lot. Are you sure it's for them? I mean, I indulge in it. I have a nostalgia with it.

1:26:35I can always, I know that every time you say something and deflect it, either your friend does it or whatever, I know if I ask a little more, it comes back to you. I do like Pokemon. There it is. Why didn't you say that? Well. And warmers, lots of just, it's just lots of, I don't know. It's buying lots of things to the house and stuff, whether or not they're necessary. I don't know. Pull up your subscriptions as well? Subscriptions. I don't have any. I mean, I do have the YouTube subscription, but I don't know how... Premium? No, it's... So I subscribe to a guy on YouTube for Pokemon giveaway deals.

1:27:08Is it a random giveaway? It's not a random giveaway. It's to get premium access to trades kind of thing. Like, if you want this Pokemon, you pay a little extra. You skip the line, essentially. I guarantee you I'm going to cancel it because I haven't used it in a long time Good you should And I won't even ask you to apply it to ours Even though obviously ours Mathematically content wise Offers more than any other YouTube membership On the history of the platform We've confirmed it with the source I haven't subscribed to yours because You can when you're out of debt Let's do it when I'm out of debt Well there it is, there's your payment to that YouTuber Chick-fil-A, McDonald's Going and getting some bull and Venmo and Trina's hair.

1:27:51That is our hairstylist. My wife will go to Trina to get her haircut. I will go to Great Clips because I don't care what my hair is. Oh, here's the mortgage. $161 ,531. Now, what is the house worth? Last time I got a home report on it. What do you mean home report? What are you talking about? I get emails every now and then from the mortgage company. Okay. I would check multiple sources, talk to a realtor as well. They're estimating it to be worth$203 right now. Okay, cool. minimum monthly payment, $803, okay, $50, $203, okay. Okay. And you're planning on moving. We're planning on moving. We don't know when.

1:28:35We need to get rid of that car, get on a, okay, I will do the budget if you do this financially well. You know, she specifically said, even though she finds me to be an asshole, which I am, but I'm a asshole in like a real way to, and that has actually benefited people, including the audience, including$10 ,000 in 10 months for the median guest. You can be that. She can be that. She specifically said, you need to listen to me and follow that guidance. Well, I'm saying to her, Toyota, time to go. So follow the same advice you gave, lady. So household income, we know 4 ,900 hits from you. What about with hers combined?

1:29:09She, on a good month, will bring. Normal month. A normal, I'll just average, will bring in about$1 ,100 a month. She doesn't work many hours, does she? She, at max, will work 29 hours a week at$13 an hour. Yeah, that's pretty brutal. What's her... Is the child care even worth it then? Because you'd save more not paying for$1 ,800 a month in child care. She needs a break from the kids. Yeah, but you're paying the premium. She's just going to work. She could go to the mall for a couple hours a day, and that's even better. You're paying more in child care than she makes. And she wants to work. Plus, also - I guess she wants to work, but you know she's paying literally to work.

1:29:50I get that, yeah. She's paying$700 a month to work. But she wants to work. I get that. That is a want in this case. She wants a break from the - I get that. And there are other breaks, but you are paying$700 to work at Chick-fil-A. She is paying$700 a month to work at Chick-fil-A. There are other things that is not a one-size-fits-all situation to take a break. If we do move, which is what we're planning. If we do move, then we save on that child care. She can go to work and she can. Sure, I'm down. I'm down for that. Then she can save for her retirement. Hey, I'm down for that. All I'm saying is right now, she is paying$700 a month to work for Chick-fil-A.

1:30:29She wants to work. For a want. A want does not matter when your retirement is. Okay, when you have two kids who drive you up the damn wall. So it's one size fits all. In order to get away from the kids, I have to spend$800 a month. She wants to work. I know! I know! It will help to... It's not. Mathematically, it's not. Show me where it doesn't make mathematical sense. Okay, you spend$1 ,800 a month on childcare and she brings in... That's our budget, but we don't always hit that. And she brings in$1 ,100, so the math is$700. But we don't always hit that. But sometimes you do, and that's what you put in.

1:31:07So guess what? Even if you don't, you're still under by a couple hundred bucks. So she's doing that as a want. She can have a hobby. She can do things. You can take the kids, go do things. There are other options. I can take the kids when I'm gone 20 days out of the month. Oh, my gosh, you little f***. I can take the kids when I'm gone for 20 days out of the month. I am just. And I get 10 days at home at best, and then I get a drill weekend. Oh, you're fighting on everything. I am bringing up 1 ,000 different things saying it is not black or white. It is not. She works at Chick-fil-A, and you guys lose money, or that she has no time away from the kids.

1:31:36That is not the two. I'm going to move on because you're being a c***. That she could put on her resume that she's worked. It was hard enough for her to get a job anyway. It was hard enough for her to get a job because she took two years off, almost two years off to raise the kids. Picture men's assholes right now and calm down. Your debt payments total not including your mortgage. Well, this is what we're going to do. We're going to get rid of the car. You're going to get a personal loan for$8 ,000. You're going to get a$10 ,000 car that you shop around for. And then the one you get, you're taking the multiple cash to get a seal of approval.

1:32:05that it's going to be a good buy and not completely destroy your entire finances. So I'm actually going to make that$300 minimum payment,$562.26 for the Corolla. And then, of course, the Navy Federal Credit Card, also known as OF from Friend, is$250.77. So your new debt minimum payments, when you do the right thing about the Toyota, because you will, will be$1 ,078.03. And if she's not willing to, then she's not on board for this. and you guys need to see a marriage counselor immediately because that is the financially right thing to do. Mortgage. For now, I'm going to say 803.53. I'm going to assume that's going to translate into rent if we have to move regardless.

1:32:46Rent might be a little higher. Utilities, how much on a monthly basis? We budget out 150, but we don't always hit it. Yeah, but we don't always hit it. I'll do 150. What about internet? It's lumped in with our HOA. Cool. Okay, what's the HOA again? 152 after the online fee. Gas, room, room, drive, drive, both. We have it in there for$450, but with my – No, Caleb, with the new job that I have, now that I'm driving over the road. Yes, then tell me now. Okay, probably$250 for gas. Car insurance. Car insurance is$176 or$173, something like that. $176. Necessary food for the house. You budgeted$700.

1:33:25I think that is reasonable. TP fund. This is stuff for the kids, stuff for you guys. This is makeup. This is whatever you need. We put that in with our groceries at$700. experimental dildo that you're taking care of$200 a month for the TV fund healthcare. Anything. $260 that TRICARE takes out of. Yeah. But that takes out of the check that comes in that we already calculated. I'm talking about, I'm talking about expenses, like going and getting prescriptions. Okay. So we spend probably about$15 on prescriptions each month for my blood pressure and anything else. haircuts need them for the military haircuts that's not healthcare that's in the TP fund okay it's in the TP fund everything else is in the TP fund do you have any pets?

1:34:12I have a dog she's nine so pet food how much? about$25 -$30 a month I'll do 30 subscriptions I'm giving you I'm going to say 40 should cover what you need right? I'll give you 50. How about that? I could probably do 40, but 50 is probably being generous. I'll give you 50 because I'm just a generous guy. Also, I should just say for the sake of this video, because everyone gets a little upset when you make fun of their community. Mormons, I do not hate you. I don't hate anyone of any race, class, religion. I don't give a f***, which is very easy to make fun of. And fun to make fun of. We are. But I do it from a place of love because I don't actually give a f*** about what you believe in.

1:35:02It impacts nothing in my life. $3 ,379.56 is what you'll need to live on a monthly basis. You bring in$6 ,000. This shouldn't even be a conversation. Really? Obviously, it would be a little higher with the Toyota full monthly payment, but not enough to make up the gap. You'd be like$3 ,600. Did you put in our child care, though? Oh, there we go. Thank you. Okay, so we're doing$18 ,000? We budget out$18 ,000. sometimes it's more sometimes it's less but that's rounded okay 5179 that makes more sense you would be tighter with that full car payment but you still have wiggle room of the six thousand dollars that comes in on a monthly basis yes we're still taking into account her doing the stupid job math which doesn't make sense because actually you would have about a thousand dollars no you'd have like you'd have like thirteen hundred dollars left over if she wasn't working and there was no childcare expenses, but whatever.

1:35:49$820.44. Okay. Let's just eat up that$20.44 to just miscellaneous$800. That is what you guys have. Now, how much are you actually considering moving home? How much are we considering moving? Where are you on the scale of will you or won't you? To move? Yes, to move. To move too. I'd like to just because. And her? She'd like to too So you guys want to The problem is we don't know how to go about selling And or renting out our place We would like to rent it out Keep that mortgage Keep that equity I like that Let's pretend you don't sell it We are both heckbent on moving But also we are hesitant to move Because we're afraid that if she gets a job She doesn't want to move a whole lot either So she doesn't want to move and then a year later move again Yeah why would you do that So, yeah.

1:36:46Why would you want to do that? But, I mean, we want to try to move closer to family. Well, with the child care taken out, you'd have$2 ,620 left on a monthly basis. But we do want to get a closer place to family. We do want to get a closer place to family. I'm going to say rent will go up. It'll eat some. Let's say you have two. A lot. The housing market. Okay, let's say you have$2 ,000 left on a monthly basis at that point when you move. So your debt without the mortgage. I'm just trying to do situation versus situation, whether or not we sell the house versus rent the house. Okay? I'm going to assume rent is going to cover the mortgage.

1:37:15It'll probably be better, but let's just be conservative. Yep.

1:37:23So your bad debt is$60 ,000. Well, actually, no. So we got rid of the Toyota, so minus the$17 ,021.26. But then add in our new$8 ,000 loan. Okay, so$51 ,403 of bad debt with the$2 ,000 net you'd have at that point. It'll take 25 months to pay off, which isn't that bad. So that's a two-year process, right? Two-year process. Let's call it another three-quarters of a year to get an emergency fund. That says be conservative, round it up, three-year process. Cool. But if you sell the house and you move, walk away at 40, call it 35 net. 35, you can pay off the Corolla. you'd only have the$8 ,000 left on a monthly basis and then plus the$8 ,837 from the Navy Federal and at that point with the$2 ,000 it would be an eight month payoff fully funded emergency fund and everything in less than two years I think with the interest that is accruing on these houses I would almost be willing unless you change actually no because you need to change your behavior in the process I would actually do the long-term process.

1:38:35The long-term process, only because it forces you to change your behavior. If you sell your house and use that to wipe out most of the debt, you won't have actually changed your behavior, and you might just mess that up again. And I think short-term, if you're 100 % perfect, I might pull the equity out of the house, because not everyone needs to be a landlord. And I would just pay off the debt and have a fully funded money in like a year and a half. That would be absolutely incredible. So you'd recommend selling? Maybe if you actually are able to fix the behavior, seeing how you so far haven't spending 2 ,000 hours more than comes in on a monthly basis.

1:39:06I would personally do the long-term process because you at least learn the life skills along the way and that might save you based on your life more money over time even if mathematically on the other end it might more because the interest rates on everything is so high. So that's up to you but there are two paths forward. Three-year process, year and a half process. Or cut it down the middle and do two. Put it in the middle but I want to get out of that as quickly as I can. That doesn't make any sense. I don't know what process gets us to, too. You said three years, one year. But I'd like to get out.

1:39:34It's three years by not selling the house. It's one and a half by selling the house. I'd like it to be as short as possible so that way we can actually have a retirement. Sell the house, and then I'd just be maxing out retirement. You don't need to be a landlord. Who cares? Okay. Okay, I'm going to call your friend in the post show. Don't text him. Do not text him or anything. We are giving him a cold call, and we will see what he says. So join us in the post show. Join the Elite membership. I highly recommend that one specifically because it has more content than literally any other YouTube membership.

1:40:00We've confirmed it with the source of the platform that we are on. It is worth it more than any other YouTube membership. I will actually pay for it by sending you a digital gift card after you sign up for it and then email members at CalebHemmer.com. Spending a budget you guys overspends. You're out of 10. Debt. Nothing in collections. The debt's pretty brutal in terms of especially the car situation, rolling that over in the Navy Federal. Spending only fans having them go up. Okay, it's not great.

1:40:28It's going to be a 1 out of 10. Two out of ten. Two out of ten. Emergency fund. Nothing. I didn't see anything in savings. There is a decent amount on the checking account. I'll call it one out of ten retirement. At least you started, but it's nothing. One out of ten. Real estate. This is the good part. Equity position. You're close to like that 20%. Okay. Yeah. It's halfway decent. Seven out of ten. Okay. Hammer financial score. Congratulations. calculations and that house is leading the way you are going to be at a 2.5 out of 10 i hope you guys actually make this progress this is going to be an interesting post show very curious to see what he says but until then make sure you guys download the simpler budget app everything's automated it makes your life so much easier see you in the post show can you call your friend yeah i'll call there were hundreds of dollars of only purchases on here and he tells us it was his friend.
