In short

The episode is about budgeting for “glam up” expenses year-round—hair, nails, eyebrows, eyelashes, facials, Botox, massages, and similar personal-care appointments—so you don’t end months short or rely on credit cards. Hosts Shana and Vanessa, best friends and business partners plus Dave Ramsey-trained master financial coaches (in business since 2019), claim their system helps women stop living paycheck to paycheck, get out of debt without giving up treats, and reduce money stress in marriages and families. Key method: track how often you get each service (e.g., every 6 weeks), total the cost per visit including tip, multiply to an annual amount, then divide by 12 to set a monthly “glam up” savings target.

Notable examples

hair every 6 weeks at $120 with tip becomes about 9 visits/year and ~$1,080/year, or ~$90/month. They recommend a separate named savings account funded automatically on paydays (first and 15th), then transferring from it at checkout with notes.

0:00Vanessa:How nice would it be to be able to go to the salon, get your facial, maybe get your hair done, and know that you have the money set aside already ready to go for you for these appointments? Yes. So when they hand you the little menu price item, which you already haven't memorized, and you're like, oh, that's fine. I already have that in an account. I'm good. And I have that in a tip, and I'm all good, and I can go get my glam up whenever, wherever, and I have the money. Like that is the vision. That is the vision we want for you. Do you make good money but have nothing to show for it? Are you tired of living paycheck to paycheck?

0:32Vanessa:Do you have big dreams for your financial future? Do you want to get debt free, but you don't want to live on beans and rice? Or you don't want to give up those pumpkin spice lattes? Hey, it's okay if you don't already know how to budget or if you're using credit cards to get through the month. Hey, it's okay if you want to seem like you have your finances all together or you're not on the same page with your spouse when it comes to finances. We know what you're doing probably isn't working, but guess what? you're in the right place. We're Shana and Vanessa. We're best friends, business partners, and master financial coaches trained by Dave Ramsey.

1:04Vanessa:We've been in business since 2019, helping hundreds of amazing people like you create budgets, get out of debt, stop living paycheck to paycheck, and know exactly what to do with their money. In this podcast, we'll share with you everything we know, plus everything we're working on with our clients so that you have the best chance at reaching your financial goals. We want to help you take the guesswork out of your budget, improve your marriages, and even bring your kids in on a conversation. We can help you no matter where you're at, whether you're the single mom who's never had$500 in her savings account or the millionaire who's paid off four real estate mortgages.

1:36Vanessa:And we're not going to shy away from the tough love. We'll tell you what you need to hear and encourage you at the same time. This is the Financial Coaching for Women podcast. All right, guys, listen. This whole podcast is about being able to budget for fun things, all your glam up. So your hair, your eyebrows, maybe your Botox, facials, eyelashes, all of that. We want to make sure it's in your budget so that way when you go, it's covered. Yeah. This is, it's kind of tricky because all of these different glam up things that you have, they all have different intervals and, you know, but they're never cheap.

2:08I'm going to put it that way. They're never cheap. And you don't want to get to the point where you're at the end of the month and you have $40 left and you have a$60 pedicure or whatever coming up. Like that's not what we want for you. We want – and I – look, I think everybody benefits if – I'm getting on this train, right? Everybody benefits if you feel good and look good. Your spouse benefits. Your kids benefit. You benefit. The whole world benefits. I was talking to my realtor client. I was like, you probably make more money because you look so good. We're here for it. Again, we're not ever telling you no with your budget.

2:37We want to help you make the things that are important to you happen. And what happens to be important to many of you is getting your hair and all of these things done at a regular interval so you feel good about yourself. And so we want to help you figure out how to budget that. And we have a very strategic plan to do it.

2:54Vanessa:Yeah. All right. So let's think about how often you get this stuff done. So the first part of being able to budget for all of this in a month or a year is you want to sit down and look at, okay, how often do I get my nails done? How often do I get my hair done? Facials, all that. Think of any of your glam up personal care stuff. You want to list it out. We have a wonderful little tracker in our budget system. So if you're interested, go to budgetbesties.com forward slash budget. But inside our simplified budget system, we have a savings bucket tracker. And we have a glam up section. Glam up. Hold on, pause.

3:25We have to pause because we call it glam up. We used to call it personal care. Oh, nobody wants personal care.

3:30Vanessa:It sounds like something medical. People want to glam up. Okay. So we already have it. Yeah, we already have it labeled in there for you. Again, you can change the names if you want. but we thought it was fun. And we want you to start listing in there all the things that happen throughout the year randomly that you want to pay for, for yourself. And even if it's like, if your kids get their hair done every week or whatever, it doesn't matter if it's just you or everyone in the family, we want to list it all out. Yeah. So, you know, we'll get on a call as your coach. We'll get on a call with you.

3:56We're like, wow, this girl, she's got it together. She gets her hair done. Let's go, let's go over here and figure this out right now before we need a budget for that or somebody steals money from somewhere because they forgot about their hair appointment. Right. So what we're going to do is we're going to go through there and say, Hey, so and so how many times how often do you get your hair done right so we don't say how many times in a year do you get your hair done we say how often and they'll say something like i go every six weeks or i go every two two months or i whatever and so that we do that for each but each line item whether like vanessa said it's your hair it's facials it's your eyebrows it's your eyelashes that's a new one it's your nails like your your manicures or pedicures it's maybe it's massages whatever it is all of those we're going to go through line item the first question we're going to ask how many times a year and that helps us create the formula to figure out how much we're going to save.

4:40Vanessa:Yeah. So what you're going to do is take how many weeks. It's like, usually it's like Shana says, somebody will say we go every six weeks. That's fine. So then we're going to take 52 weeks in the year. We're going to do this in real time. We don't do math in our head. Yeah. That's not, that's not what we're here for. So 52 divided by six times. So how many times you end up going? It's about 8.6. We're just going to round up to nine. Always round up guys. There's There's no shame in the rounding game. Okay. So now we know that we go about nine times a year. Okay. And we want to make sure we account for now what the total cost of that is.

5:11Vanessa:So what is the total cost every time you go, including tip? Don't forget that. So how much is that? So let's just say for this one, it's hair and it's$120, including tip, every time. Okay. That person goes. Okay. So every time this person goes, they're really cheap compared to some of you guys. I love you guys. So my hair appointment's cheaper than that. Isn't that crazy? Yeah. But no. But some people it's like. Yeah. Okay. So now we've hit. Okay. So annually, you guys, you cost$1 ,000. Your hair. Yeah. Just your hair costs$1 ,080 a year to have it look gorgeous and perfect the way that you want it to.

5:47So what we want to do, and this is what all of our budget philosophy is about. We want to take the roller coaster right out of this. So we're going to take that random number that every six weeks, did I go last week? Did I go? Is it this month? This month I have two appointments? Whatever. Like, no. We're going to take all of that weirdness out and we're just going to divide this number by 12 so that we can have it monthly budgeted for. So now we know if I put$90 aside every month, then I will always have the money that always have the money I need to get my hair done. Right? And so you're going to repeat this process for every glam up amount thing that you do.

6:22Whether, like I said, manicured, pedicure, eyelashes, all of that.

6:25Vanessa:Yep. And if you have our savings bucket tracker inside our simplified budget system, all you have to do is put the annual amount in there and it does all the math for you. So you list out all the items and you tell it exactly how much it costs you for the year for that thing, including tip. Don't ever forget that. And then it tells you, okay, now total for your glam up fund for everything that you do personal care wise, glam glow up wise, it's going to be, let's just say$300 a month that you set aside to be able to make all this happen. All right, budget besties. It's time for some real talk. You don't need another budget.

6:59Vanessa:You need a budget system. Our simplified budget system is what you've been looking for. It's going to allow you to be bougie on a budget. You'll be able to easily set up a system that runs automatically and shows you exactly where your money is going. And it's going to give you permission to spend. Everybody loves that. Yeah. It's straightforward, pretty, and packed with walkthrough videos that break down the exact methods we use with our clients to get out of debt, set up a bills account, separate spending, build savings buckets, and end the paycheck to paycheck feel. If you're new to budgeting, this is the perfect way to jump in.

7:33And if you're already a budget nerd like us, you're about to meet your new obsession. This is the upgrade to your finances that you need right now. Yeah.

7:41Vanessa:So head on over to budgetbesties.com forward slash budget and grab yours. Now back to today's show. So what you're going to do then is open a separate savings account. Savings account, not a savings bucket, not a checking account, a separate savings account. You're going to start putting in$300 a month in automatically from your budget into that account. And that way, anytime you go to get your nails, your hair, your facials, whatever it is, you'll always know where the, that you want, that you have the money and where it's coming from. Those are very important things for us as women, right? We want to know that it's covered.

8:15We We want to know that if I go get my hair done, Sally can still get shoes. Everybody's going to eat. The bills are paid. We don't want any of that anxiety in your life. So you're going to have a separate account with it going in there every month.

8:25Vanessa:So that's the freedom of this whole thing. It's to know that I can save for my glam up stuff. I'm paying off on debt. The kids are eating. The groceries are getting funded. We can go out to dinner. We can have date night. All of that is happening. And I don't feel guilty. Because a lot of women will feel guilty to get this stuff done because they don't know if they can afford it because they don't have a system set up in their budget. Yeah, and that's what the system is going to do, like Vanessa said, give you the freedom. So the other hack – so your account, remember we said you're going to name it something, probably Glam Up, but you can call it something else if you don't love us.

8:56And then you're going to – every time you do a transfer, go ahead and put a note. It's right there in the transfer screen when you go to transfer them. That's actually what's going to happen, by the way. I don't know if we mentioned that. When you're at the salon, they're going to say, oh, that would be$100 million right now. Thank you so much. You're like, oh, okay. and then you transfer the$100 million literally from your GlamUp account to your personal spending. You pull out your personal spending debit card and you pay for it unless you got it out in cash because some people like that. But that's how it's going to work.

9:23And then when you do that transfer on that screen, there's a section for you to put notes and you'll just put, you know, manicure or pedicure or whatever it is. That way you can just have like extra information out there if you ever need to go back and look.

9:35Vanessa:Yeah. I love looking back at my savings accounts and seeing how I've spent my money throughout the month. It's really nice and it just keeps it organized. So let's look at this whole thing really quick. Again, you need an account for your Glam Up. This is your hair, eyebrows, facials, massages, like Shana said, all that stuff. You're going to figure out how much you spend in a year on all of these things. You're going to take that number and you're going to divide it by 12. So we know exactly how much we need per month to put in our Glam Up account for it. We're going to open a separate savings account to make this happen.

10:05Vanessa:We're going to name it something cute. You're going to automatically transfer money into their every single paycheck. And then whenever you go to spend the money, you're just going to transfer it from the savings account to your personal spending account and swipe the card. And real quick, you, like Vanessa mentioned before, you want to go ahead and adopt our whole budget system because it's going to do the freedom that you're going to feel when you have this, your budget system overall is going to do that for every part of your life, which is really cool. But you're going to base, you're going to adopt the system and that's going to tell you, oh, we get, we do our transfers based on the two big paychecks that we get every month, like on the first and the 15th.

10:38That's when you would do, if you're, if this is$300, you're going to do 150 on the first, 150 on the 15th. They go into the glam up. You don't ever have to do anything. You're always, everything's already happening for you. You just have to go get your hair done, girl. Like that's all we're asking you to do. Okay. So it's exciting.

10:52Vanessa:And you're less likely, well, we obviously don't want you to steal from it if you want to do a target run or whatever extra one month. But like the whole point of this is because it's completely out of sight, out of mind, in a separate account. It has a name on it. And you know, if you pull from it, you're not going to be able to get your hair done like you wanted to and feel good about it the next month. Right. So don't do that. But yeah, so this is going to give you the freedom to be able to stay looking good, feeling good for you and everyone around you without taking any stress from the rest of your budget.

11:20Yeah.
