In short

Gal Gadot discusses hosting Saturday Night Live, her training and stunt work for the movie The Runner (including sprinting scenes), and her career path from Israeli pageants to Hollywood action/comedy. She also talks about auditioning for Wonder Woman, her experience with SNL’s live format, and broader thoughts on film culture and online backlash.

Guests (and backgrounds)

Gal Gadot (Israeli actress; known for Wonder Woman; also appeared in Fast & Furious films; previously Miss Israel). David Spade (comedian/actor; SNL alumnus). Dana (podcast host/participant, name not clearly stated in transcript). Additional recurring voices include David and Dana as interviewers.

Key claims

Gadot did most of her own stunts, including running, after nine months of daily sprint-focused training with an Olympic trainer; she finished the film on crutches. For SNL, she says she was largely “in the dark” about pitches and live logistics, learned material by heart the night before, and found the monologue nerve-wracking. She was cast as Wonder Woman after auditions with Zack Snyder/Warner Bros.

Notable examples

Tom Cruise sprinting comparisons; SNL Wayne’s World wardrobe (blonde wig/glasses) and being cast as Garth; Wonder Woman’s Hebrew/Israel-focused monologue; Miss Israel/Miss Universe experiences; online “chaos” campaigns affecting movie reception.

2:34I feel like when I'm either drunk or tired, it's really bad. And which one are you now? Yeah. Tired, right? but maybe you had a little I'm not going to tell you oops you know my wish I wish I had Tom Cruise doing my stunts in a blonde wig yeah cause he's the best at it

2:55Dana Carvey:I got a blonde wig I got these glasses I remember the Wayne's world yeah yeah too cute it was like real life me talking to a pretty girl and them just acting like I'm not there I'm dying to know what you said. I'm so sorry. We just did seven minutes and here we go again, but it went surprisingly well. But wait, let's hear if I can hear David. Oh, okay. Spade right here going on. I have both of you. You may never hear from me again. Guys, I think we should keep it all. I like it all. Because it's so organic and messy. Like my life. Messy. Yeah. I know. Life is messy. I think we all don't have makeup on and we all look good.

3:45I have makeup on. Oh, you do? You look the same. But that's a good makeup when it doesn't look like I have makeup.

3:53Dana Carvey:On the advice of my attorney. Obviously, he wears makeup. How I get this look is a mystery. But anyway, you've checked. Just look up like this. Well, whoops. Dark back there.

4:13Dana Carvey:my hair in the back is just dark brown and it's real and then if you thought for one second he would cut the sexy part you're out of your mind no this is just my coy kind of german man whoops Sorry. Oops. It's just a fun attitude to be in. I love it. Thank you. I love your accent. I want to talk like you. It's very subtle, though. Very subtle. I love it. I feel like when I'm either drunk or tired, it's really bad. And which one are you now? Yeah. Tired, right? But maybe you had a little mimosa. I'm not going to tell you. Oops. That's it. Whoops. Maybe someone had a mimosa. Who knows? No, no, I'm very, I'm just tired.

5:08Thanks for doing this. But it's like the type of tired when you get like tipsy, when you get silly. I do like it. You get spacey and crazy. We call it punchy. David, I'm so sorry I didn't answer any of your remarks. No, we talked about it and they said nothing. I said it was important at all. Good. David, I think you're tired. With the five hour energy behind you? Or are you doing like a subtle, is this like a subtle partnership?

5:37Dana Carvey:Not subtle. It's our sponsor. It's not subtle. You have to read a 12 minute. So elegant, you guys. Yeah. We are kind of, I don't know, what do you call us? Whores? Or what would be the word for what we're doing? Oh yeah, I see. You have one in your background too. Okay. I'll get my. I put them way back. did you get the jug we sent you to drink the whole interview no i'm kidding we don't do that we'll send you a five-hour energy hat if you want i love hats

6:13and i love how generous you guys are gal we like to give i'm wearing a hat because i don't do my hair on Sundays. Okay. I'm doing, actually the one I wanted to ask you is that I'm doing a movie right now and then I have to run down this hill and I was watching The Runner this morning, the movie you got coming out and I was like, I have a, I was thinking she must have be running a lot and have a stunt runner and I have a stunt runner only because I run down a hill and they They had to get me a stuntman because I wasn't fast enough.

6:49Dana Carvey:They had a stunt runner and I was happy to do it. Yeah, but that's not fair. Did they prep you for the role? Did you do workouts and training? Let me explain the difference between our movies we do. I read most of the movie. I read almost all of my part. Your arc. And then I say, ignore the rest. I say yes. Then I read it. then I go and uh this one's a long one so we did we do a lot of stuff in it and there are stunts and they said they just want it done the right way but you know the funny thing you can you can attest to this when you're doing stunts sometimes they go we got a stunt man to do the hardest part and then they're piecing together we got to get a piece of you doing it and slowly I'm doing the whole thing because they keep going we need you at the beginning and a little bit in the middle and then at the end of it, just to make it look real.

7:44So you're doing everything. I'm doing it all. But only slowly, which is sometimes harder.

7:49Dana Carvey:I mean, you've done all kinds of stuff. Obviously, with Wonder Woman, we can get into that. But I did agree with you, I think you said, because I said Tom Cruise hangs from airplanes. He goes underwater for 12 minutes. But the sprinting, if it's real, is his greatest stunt. At his age, to turn over like that. I don't know if the way they shoot it, but a full out sprint is hard. I think he's the best actor, runner, runner, professional. I don't know. He's the best. When, when, when it became super hard for me, I was like, okay, it was literally, if Tom does it, then I can try to do it too. You know, but I was lucky.

8:33I was prepping for this film for nine months, nine months of every day running and doing like crazy things with your feet and walking on on like on a rope and doing like all these different things to keep your feet strong okay for nine

8:52Dana Carvey:months with a freaking uh olympic trainer so it was yeah malachi davis who ran a 44 downhill is very dangerous you can yeah and break your neck oh definitely i was a runner in high school and college so i kind of know excuse me i just kind of know how this happens this is fake i didn't but i was curious about that we can talk about it now if you want but that's extraordinary and i i do honestly i'm not blowing smoke i love the premise of the movie i love that the mom gets a call and then is being directed because when you see it and then you're sprinting you're told where to go and you're kind of running all day basically or you know sprinting yeah so when you read the script it's not just sprinting because it's like the movie starts she sprints and then there's another piece of it where she really sprints but then you need to start the day and today we're filming a scene where she runs but she's exhausted so you need to have the level of exhaustion to to tune it down and up it's um i was i was watching going okay from the beginning uh i was going okay here's a scene where she's not running i know in her head she's like oh not running today and then you get going then she finally gets the call i go here we go but then he goes you go wait i like when you go wait you want me to run five miles right now run yeah and he's like yeah and here's your clock and you're like god dang it so i i uh i do think that's very cool and i you know my wish i wish i had tom cruise doing my stunts in a blonde wig yeah because he's the best at it and you know what dana i think he does do you got the nine cameras ready i'm gonna give it one as fast as i can and i got maybe one more in me and that's it like i don't think you can do that over and over how fast you go i the mobility i we all know tom's not a teenager he's in incredible shape but the mobility that hip flexors all this stuff has to happen in your lower chain to be able to sprint i'm kind of curious did you ever do a day where the character is sort of just trying to cover miles like running a six minute mile for like an hour or stuff stuff like that or was it sprinting jogging walking what's the whole world of the type of running you did when i prepped when you're in the movie what we see yeah what you've seen i don't know i mean well you're sprinting and then sometimes you're kind of walking jogging you're tired yeah yeah i'm exhausted and but but that was um we tried to be very methodical and technical about it because we knew that I'm not going to be able to give him 20 takes per course same setup you know so we kept the important ones and when we shot them I really gave everything that I had um and then the other ones I had and I have an amazing stunt woman that I work with and she did some of the wides and all of the you know it's like what you do but i finished the movie on crutches i finished the movie not being able to walk so not just so tom is the best so tom really is the best okay that's not the second best yeah no i don't know but no but you do it he only does it once or twice a movie you know uh yeah you have to do it a lot and it is hard and even a stunt stuntman is like they get burned now too you can't she broke my stand stanny broke her feet as well we both finished the movie on crotch it was impossible to film to listen even my uh listen let me tell you something here we go even my uh amazing trainer who trains the the the american champion that won the metal gold for sprinting he told me that runners the train for the olympics they don't run so much you need to recover the body needs time to we ran every day all day it was sick it was insane which i think essentially helped my helped me with my character yes because she's so worn out and she is so out of herself and out of control that it just you know helped and then no one knew if it's gonna to work.

13:28Kevin McDonald, our director, never shot anything like this. And he couldn't even talk to a filmmaker that done anything like this because no one filmed a movie when the entire movie, the actress has to run. So we were like, okay, how much can I run? We were talking to doctors, we were talking to different trainers, how do we split it? But we made it through. And I'm so I'm so happy and thank you for taking the time to watch the movie this morning.

13:56Dana Carvey:Oh, Ron. Well, we got it very late. I didn't see all of it. Here we go. Here we go with the excuses. Obviously, I can see who's the professional here with the printed notes and who has the yellow cord. Well, that's how I remember. Which one's better? I type these. I know. You're a professional. But I do this so I can memorize it. David's like this the whole podcast. Watch, looking up. So anyway, what am I like? You're in the moment. I'm in the moment. What sign are you? What sign are you, Dana? You know, think of a schizophrenic. Think of someone who's very introverted, but also extroverted. Sort of a twin, two twins.

14:39You're Gemini. Yeah. Okay.

14:41Dana Carvey:And you're a Virgo. David, I'm not a Virgo. Cancer. I just guessed. Cancer. Like what has been? When? 22nd of July right on the edge oh he's the 23rd you kind of came down a little bit on that one of June well we're both on the edge Capricorn on the cusp I'm a Taurus guys the bull right the life force oh you're May 5th no I'm April 30th wasn't that a good guess though I really committed yeah close enough you studied You studied. That's amazing. I'm a Taurus with a Taurus horizon in the ox year. And I'm not stubborn. Good God. And what's your husband? What's his sign? Cancer. Cancer. Oh, a cancer and a Taurus.

15:31Dana Carvey:Okay. I got it. Very homey. Very family oriented. Yeah. There's so many. My brother's sign is feces. Oh, boy. That's an old stand-up line. Some comedian. I don't know what. my sister's a pisces i'm a feces yeah that was not my joke david cover me get do a joke now i watch that out i'll tell god that i would gal that i was in a restaurant and this guy came up to me and said can i pitch you a movie he goes i'm not even the pro writer and i don't have an agent but i am a leo and i know you're leo and there were good guys you're not a leo and he's pitching the whole thing and i'm like dude i'm not a leader that's all i could wait to say and then he just goes oh you're not i don't know and he goes all right and he walked away i go were you just guessing like because he got in the door and he goes christmas and i go no no you're guessing one in 12 and then people are always it was a good guess but it was wrong wow

16:36dana have you ever caught yourself mid-sentence and think wow maybe i I shouldn't have had that extra coffee this morning. Yeah, you have.

19:44Dana Carvey:What's your favorite movie that you've done so far? I'm just throwing that out for conversation. You don't have to answer any of these. His was Tommy Boy, Joe Dirt. Mine was Wayne's World. It's a good one with the small jacket. No, small jacket, big fat people. Fat man with a little jacket. You guys were close, huh? From SNL. Yeah. Yeah. Dana was the good one on SNL. I came on with Farley. Dana was kind of the king running it. And we came on with Adam Sandler and Chris Rock and Rob Schneider. Wow, wow, wow. Yeah, Mike Myers. Peters, John Lovitz, Phil Hartman. Yeah, these guys were the good guys, and we came in, and they were all there together.

20:32It was so fun. It's like truly a legendary generation of comedians. So fun. When did you go do it, and were you scared? Did you watch it when you were a little twerp in Israel? No, I've never. You didn't see it at all? I didn't see it. No, because they don't air it in Israel. and it's very, you know, it's America, it's American culture. I just wasn't exposed to it. And it's funny because when I was offered that, what? She was going like this, American, you know, it's, you know. It's like, no, it's like. She's got a better wide shot. What I'm trying to say, it's like, you know, it's one of those national treasure type of shows, you know.

21:20but I wasn't exposed to it. I knew the name. It was familiar. I knew the concept, but I wasn't sure. Then I got the offer. And you didn't really know much at all when you got the offer. Wow. You didn't know that's hardly knew, but my husband knew a lot of it. My husband used to study in New York and like love the show love that he's 10 years older than me. So it's like the generation, not that like youngers they watch it. I don't even know why I said that. It doesn't matter because it's not a generational thing. Anyway, they asked me to do the show and Yaron told me, this is the big, if you do SNL, it's like, that's it.

22:00You've made it in America. I'm like, sure, let's do the show. And then I wasn't. She wasn't even scared. She's like, all right. Yeah, let's do the show. Then what happened? Yes, but big mistake. Big, huge, huge mistake. because, well, first of all, I came and I think on a Monday or a Tuesday,

22:25Dana Carvey:they do all the pitches. So you go into Lauren's room and everyone are there. Now, the people that worked with me back then didn't give me the context. So I'm just like, you know, going with the flow. Sure. Right. Tell me what to do. positive, but no one tells me what to expect. Um, and then I'm in Lauren's room and people are, one guy is like, okay, you and I were married. I'm good. We're going to have a baby together. And he goes on this thing and I'm like, try and, and then the next one and the next one and the next one. And I'm like, Oh, they're pitching me. They're pitching me. Okay. No, everything was like, wow.

23:11Wow. Completely in the dark. Not to mention, I'm so embarrassed. People are going to think I'm not okay in the head. But I was telling people as we got closer, I said, wait a second. Is it really live? Is it really live? Or is it like live to tape live? Is it live live? That is a question. It's not that dumb. It's live. Yeah. Okay, good. Right. And it was, and then I was like, okay. I'm going to do it. I'm just going to try to come as prepared as I can. So I learned all of everything by heart the night before. So I didn't sleep. And everybody are telling me, don't, don't, don't read the cards.

23:57Dana Carvey:It could change the next day, right? Anyway, it was, it worked. It was good. It was like good, but it was way too, I was not ready whatsoever. But the people there were incredible. Well, that is part of the secret fun of SNL. You're watching a movie star or an athlete. People don't do, I'm not here, do sketch comedy. Try to do sketch comedy because no one's putting pressure on you. Everyone knows you're just coming into this thing, and that's part of the fun of it. But I can't believe, usually there's an attache. It might have been Marcy Klein back in the day, but someone who would sort of guide you through the show and maybe tell you basically.

24:36Dana Carvey:From the SNL side. from around SNL. Did you have someone there with you? No, I had. I didn't have someone there with me the whole time. Did you go alone? I don't remember. Who was the cast when you posted? What year? What year? And we'll be able to tell you. I'll look it up in my notes.

25:01Dana Carvey:Nope, it wasn't 2017. It was. It was 2025. It was Sam Smith was the music So that one you would have had Kate McGinnon was still there Who's brilliant of course Brilliant You would have had Cecily Strong Aidy Bryant Yes Maybe Kristen Wiig No Kristen wasn't there She had left And the men The men No Hater No Hater had left I think right Hader wasn't there. No. But try more. I like this game. Oh, it's kind of fun. Not Bill Hader, not Fred Armisen. No. I'm trying to think of that cast. Oh, yeah. Armisen. James Austin Johnson wasn't there yet. No. From that cast. I can find out. Do you want me to find out?

25:55Let me Google it. Yeah, we'll pause the podcast for a minute.

25:59Dana Carvey:And how was your... No, I love you looking it up while we're talking. How was your monologue? Let's ask her how monologue did you like. How is what? Was your monologue about Wonder Woman or what was it about? First of all, it was the first time they broadcasted to Israel. So it was like Israel and hello and falafel and hummus jokes. And it was. The whole thing is directed only to Israel. No, it was like, this is the first time it's also being broadcast to Israel. And then I said a few words in Hebrew. and then I said something about you know Israeli food and then it was probably Wonder Woman and stuff I don't remember guys the amount of pressure you guys were was it overall a fun monologue was that a scary part or was that kind of the fun part because it's just you reading the cards no it was nerve wracking because I have I get in front of many people.

27:02I have stage fright. Sure. And someone told me right before, as I was about to come out, she came to say, Steven Spielberg came to see you tonight. Oh, why would someone... Why are you telling me this right now? No, no, no. This moment never happened. So it was, you know, I was just a ball of stress that night. They should say that to every host. That would be a great idea.

27:32Dana Carvey:I remember when you were on Now and someone's out there. That you want them to fail. Yeah. Christopher Nolan called me right as you were starting your show. Yeah, he's actually muted. I'm watching. Spielberg's there, but I'm watching. I go, thanks, Chris. Do something about that boat. By the way, have you seen The Odyssey? Yes. Did you get to watch it? I did. What an incredible film. Crazy. I know I was exhausted watching it I mean it is extraordinary how many people did got beaten up at the end

28:13Dana Carvey:that giant sword fight that was extraordinary but the thing about it is that it's just so much practical effects you didn't watch and you don't want to hear the end and I was thinking how funny that I was watching Jaws this morning and that was Spielberg and how interesting Jaws is when you haven't seen it for a long time. Well, Jaws is a perfect movie. What was the pickup? Did you see Jaws? I've seen it many years ago. Right, and I hadn't seen it since I was a little twerp and I was like, it's so cool the things now I know more about movies. Literally everything. And so when I watch it, I'm like this.

28:52It's more fun and it's actually better because of so many interesting things they do that I never would notice now. And so, which makes it more scary that Steven Spielberg is watching you. I remember watching a documentary about Steven Spielberg. I don't know if you got to watch it. And it was, I think, I don't want to, I think it was about Jaws that he was having a hard time. I think that's the movie he's talking about. And then he called all of his amazing filmmaker friends. And basically he goes, you know, just fake it till you make it. I think it was George Lucas and all the biggies. Yeah.

29:32He had, he had access to every big director and he was saying, what do I do here?

29:37Dana Carvey:I think he was 27 with jaws. I'm not sure. 28. Um, it's a perfect movie. They're, they're very rare. shark go in the water cage. Go in the water. Farewell in the doon. My we Spanish. Robert Shaw. But yeah. Odyssey is an epic thing you kind of have to see. And so that's cool. Yeah, Dave, you've got to watch it. Yeah. Okay. So the movie that you're filming, did you run downhill yet? I'm going to ask you something that they do in Europe that's a cheese run. Have you ever heard of this? Cheese run. They roll a big circle of cheese down a hill and people chase it. I've seen it on YouTube. Oh, okay.

30:29I thought it was something. And a lot of people from the town come out. Yeah. I don't think.

30:35Dana Carvey:I don't even know what it's called. It does sound a little shaky. Anyway, all you need to know is it's a bunch of people running. Okay. But we also have to do all these things. So you survived it. Everything is good. Listen, they said, I'm a perfect physical specimen. These are other people's words. And there's nothing I can't do. Other people's words. And so super talent. Brilliant. Whatever. Other people's words. My words. My words, not yours. But it's been fun. But the movies we do when they're straight comedies, I think you do a little of both. And I think also like movies like Wonder Woman has comedy in it.

31:20You know what I mean? There's parts to keep it. It just has to have it because it's fun to have a little lightness. It's life. You can't, it doesn't matter how dark or whatever the film is. You need to have some humor to keep it alive. I wish I would have more opportunities to do comedy. I feel like I haven't, I haven't done that yet. And it's something I would love to do. Right. Right. Well, just hold on a second Throwing it out there You guys, let's do something with the whole legendary You know She's totally game for it That's a good story Red Notice was a huge movie on Netflix I think 230 million views 100 million seconds Billions of minutes I don't even know what it means I don't even know what it means It was like, I think it was first most watched movie on Netflix for a long time until K-pop.

32:19Look at that. K-pop. They broke our record. They break every record

32:26Dana Carvey:those guys. They're pretty amazing. That's a cartoon. It's a cartoon. It's a puppet show. It's a Disney ride. Ours was real. We were the first movie to go back filming during COVID. So that was like, look at me in my shorts hands. How did you do that? It's like a special effect. Looked like a T-Rex. Yeah, I have normal arms, you guys. How did we do it? It was, yeah, it was insane. Now that I think about it, how serious it used to be. It was you, the rock, what, Ryan Reynolds, maybe? And Ryan Reynolds, yeah. That was it, yeah. That seems to work. You know, Dana, she gained attention locally when she won what in 2004?

33:15Best newcomer. Miss Israel, do you know?

33:19Dana Carvey:Oh, I mean locally in Israel. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Miss Israel. Miss Israel. How was that? Yeah. Were you waving to everyone? I did. It's so now when you think about it. How fun. Dated. It was a lot of fun Actually I was Where do I even begin I was supposed to go to the army And my service Got pushed In six months Did they push it because you won They pushed it afterwards again Because I won But like originally I was supposed to go to Do my service then it got pushed in six months then my mom signed me up for the Miss Israel competition. And in Israel back then, in the beginning of 2000, it was considered to be like an amazing thing.

34:17It's not like, so I was like, yeah, I'll go for the experience. You get to travel somewhere with a group of first responders, blah, blah, blah. I'll go for the experience. I'll get to tell my grandkids. Grandma was competing in the Miss Israel. Then I won and I was freaking out. Did not want to win. I took it way too seriously. Like I thought now I'm supposed to do all these things. Cause you know, they always talk. You got a job. Yeah. What do I do? What do you even do? What does that mean? I'd rather just win and split with the money, but then like, okay, tomorrow. No money. No money. You don't get any money.

34:58You get a car. Is it like an American? They try and see three.

35:02Dana Carvey:What? Is it like in America and we have Miss USA and you have to wear a bathing suit and high heels? You have to walk out and then they interview you? Is it like those kinds of things? Then I competed in Miss Universe. Oh, snap. And then in Miss Universe. Against Arnold? Against Arnold Schwarzenegger? No, he was. I was Mr. Universe. She's Mrs. Universe. Bring her on. Yeah, we should make a baby out of the universe of mincemeat. It's really good with German accent. well anyone could do Arnold let me tell you something you could be Wonder Woman I'd be Hercules we make a baby I don't know that's a good one we should write that comedy together and cast it out yeah I'm trying to think of a comedy we're going to come up with comedies once we hang up we're going to come up with a comedy I love that So for a year In this universe I completely did Everything in order to make sure I'm not going to win Oh really?

36:11Used to smoke in front of everybody

36:13Dana Carvey:Smoke, eat cheese pizzas, ice cream Exactly Being like a normal 18 year old And did you achieve your goal? What place did you get? Special skills Didn't even make the first round She was like see ya yeah yeah okay Fala Abdul was one of the judges and she asked me a question and I completely understood the question and I said sorry English no speaking oh wow I don't know what you're talking about well that's a comedy movie in a way someone trying to not win I me don't know why are you wearing overalls no English me no talk with what you say I scared I scared Taking a dive in the Miss Universe Yes, took a dive You could do Polymart today You'd make a fortune if you had that information Oh yeah, because you could probably be a top five What is Polymart?

37:16Dana Carvey:It's something you can bet anything in the world You could probably bet right now how long this podcast is going to last It's a gambling site It's an open gambling market So people bet anything Do you gamble there? Um, uh, we're going to go to a commercial and take a quick break. Yeah. We'll be right back. Uh, while we tell her what not to ask us. Okay. Okay. You don't have to understand. That guy's a gambler. He's a gambler. No, I'm not. I, that poly market is interesting to me because I'm not, I do do some sports stuff, but when you can bet on like, how long will that Taylor Swift concert be to the minute over or under this number, there's so many weird things people think of.

37:57and you can bet on real life and things people already know. So there's somewhere someone that knows what color hat will this girl wear out on stage and they can bet. So people are winning right now. It's very weird. I don't think it'll be around forever because it's so nuts that they're trying to stomp it out. But right now it's interesting. Right. I probably gave it the worst explanation.

38:21Dana Carvey:No, I get it. We got the general gist. You got the gist. You got to feel for it. We get that. You got the gist. You know, gist. The broad strokes. You got the broad strokes. The cliff notes. Tell it to me like I'm a four-year-old. Yeah. Tell it to me like I'm a two-year-old that got hit by a car. Hey, live signal. Make it very simple. Okay. Hmm. What else do we got on here? We got, I like this. Well, we got, I want to hear about Vin Diesel. I just, I kind of, I love those fast and furious. David. Huh? What did I miss? I'm going to go have a smoke. Go ahead. No, I love that Vin Diesel, one of those Fast and Furious, he's in a car flying across the canyon.

39:03Dana Carvey:Maybe he's upside down with a guy. They're just flying and did nothing. They shot off this mountain. Oh, he gets shot out of a rocket. And then Vin Diesel goes, this was always the plan. I'm like, what the fuck? Not possible. This is always the plan. Do you know the amount of feedback, comments, whatever that I get from people around the world? And I'm not just talking America here. like think china thailand right um that watch morocco huge global but it's a phenomenon it's like whatever they i will give it that there and you were in two of them or one of them you were in six and 14 ah you're not as professional as i thought you were give me look down Stop connecting eyes with you.

39:52You scream at me. Fast and five and fast.

39:56Dana Carvey:It's furious and fast. You're fast and slightly angry. You were in pretty fast and kind of perturbed. Were you in Tokyo Drift? No, that was number three. I think that was the one that's known as a bomb. Tokyo Drift was kind of funny. Maybe because... It bombed. It only made a billion. yeah that's a i like this is kind of stupid but in the world of today when spider-man makes freaking two billion i know no it's still going to get me going yeah i saw the trick i saw the preview for spider-man and i was like i that's how i found out i didn't get it because i saw it on and i was like oh i guess but i i uh that was the whole joke all right also i got it i know i like it um fast and furious when they said they're they're you didn't hear about this but one of the cast members unfortunately passed away and they were like we got it we're we got to do it that's the last and the fast and the last one they were doing and then that did the best because they say it's last and then they go it did so good we're gonna do three more and you go like you know people do it all the time maybe they meant it at the time and then they saw how well it did but they announced they announced one just last week they announced another one last week actors do it all the time when they say this is my last film i'm not at all it's a good trick it's like a spin-off it's a new one vin's baby is driving no they announced they announced one where where vin diesel's character goes to college it's called the fast and the curious David, take over.

41:42Save it for Gal's next model.

41:44Dana Carvey:Take it away. Vin Diesel goes to community college. The fast and the curious. That was the first movie I've ever done in my entire career. Second project I've ever done and first film I ever. Did you take any kind of acting or are you just a natural? They just said, come on. I have like, I, I, uh, always worked with like, uh, with a one-on-one with coaches. With a coach. Yeah. Okay. But you didn't go to some college. Insecurity. Uh, I don't know if you studied, uh, acting, but I always have this insecurity of the, you know, um, no, there's a syndrome, the, the. Imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome.

42:31And I'm like, when are they going to realize blah, blah, blah. So, yeah, I'm always working with someone. Right. She goes, I've seen your movies. I have a question. Have you guys ever taken acting class? Yeah. Fuck off. I'm not sure.

42:45Dana Carvey:We clearly haven't, if you've seen our movies. No. We clearly have not had any formal training. If you've seen the particular things we're in. I will tell you, Gal, just to waste your fucking time, and we can cut it out. but when I was I started at the improv doing stand-up when I was like 20 and then I just looked younger than these regular comics and I wasn't even that good but they this this director came in this woman who was great and she was an actress and she said I have a movie I need a lead to play high school but no one can do it and you look like high school and it's a comedy you have to do it and she goes can you just come over tomorrow and talk about it wink but I was so naive anyway i went over there and she goes read it and i read i didn't know how to read or anything but i was like holding the script and kind of reading it she goes no try to act it out walk with it and just kind of look at it and i do it and she goes i can't give it to you because you're not ready and i was like and she goes i'm gonna give you an acting teacher you will be good you just have to know some basics and i'm and she was like i'm so mad i want to just do it with you and And it killed me.

43:55It did help me. But it was such a brutal – But then you realized that was something you wanted to do as well. Well, I was doing stand-up, and I wanted to do more than that. Actually, it sounds stupid. I wanted to do sitcoms because I grew up on them. I used to go to sleep with your sitcom every night for the long experience. Quiet, Anna.

44:16Dana Carvey:Which one? Rules of Engagement? Oh, yeah, which one? Just Shoot Me? Just Shoot Me. Oh, really? That was a great one. Was that in America or that other place? In Israel. Okay. And it got all the way over there? Yeah, it got all the way over there. I'm going to go over there and visit now. Every night, prime night, prime time as well. Woo! This is a refreshing break with Snapple. We all know about Snapple's iconic real facts. So let's take a minute to go over some of my faves.

47:21Dana Carvey:Snapple real fact 455. Movie trailers used to come on at the end of the movies, but no one stuck around to watch them. I've heard that. Snapple real fact 831. Adults laugh only about 15 to 100 times a day, while preschoolers laugh an average of 300 times a day. Snapple real fact 1983. The first player drafted to play pro football never played in the league. That's interesting. Snapple, real fact, 1274. Kickball is referred to as soccer baseball in some parts of Canada. Hmm. So grab a Snapple. Take a second. Enjoy the moment. Because let's be honest, this might be the most refreshing part of your day.

48:05Snapple, make your break more interesting.

48:12Dana Carvey:Did you have to audition for Wonder Woman? Yeah. I would assume that's a good question. I would assume they went. They cast me based on all the movies I've been with. Fast and furious. Yeah. They're like, you're Wonder Woman. I am? I almost quit acting because it was like the rejection. I was never like, I was planning, I was never planning on becoming an actress. So you did audition then For Wonder Woman Of course I auditioned for it I thought they'd just go You're Wonder Woman Was it director meeting Read, read, read It was They told me there was a Very confidential Big audition Warner Brothers want to see me for I came in a room with the casting director And Zack Snyder the director And I did a scene that nowadays, like afterwards, only afterwards I realized it was a scene from pop fiction.

49:14And then went back to Israel thinking I'm never going to come back to Hollywood to do it because I got too many rejections, too many, too close ones and then rejection.

49:27Dana Carvey:Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I already had a daughter who was two. I was like, this is fucking, this is insane to go back there. But then they called me to come and do a callback with Ben Affleck. and I came, and I got the part. Wait, was Wonder Woman with, was it Justice League first, and then your own? No, Batman versus Superman first, then Wonder Woman, then Justice League. When you got, you know, in the wardrobe department, and you get into Wonder Woman, you got the thing on. No, I'm just wondering if you looked in the mirror and went, I'm Wonder Woman. I mean, there was a, not like, I'm Wonder Woman, like a person with like a mental issue damn girl yeah i was like holy shit how could it be that this little girl from the middle east okay america to me i grew up in america was still is you know the land of opportunities i'm playing this iconic american figure how did that happen like insane.

50:35It was amazing. It was like bigger than me. I watched it growing up. It was a big deal. Oh, yeah. How amazing is that? Linda Carter was unbelievably stunning. And you know, it ran, I think, for two years or so. That was it? That's it. Really? Two or three years. We can check it. Makes an impression. Wow. When you say, do I look good in this outfit? And you have to put your golden lasso on people to get the real answer? Yeah, all the time. I used it for some years. Oh, yeah, the bold and lasso. We're taking that out of your monologue. We're going to tell your monologue.

51:10Dana Carvey:Well, when I got it, I did Wayne's World. They put all this stuff on me. I looked in the mirror and I go, I'm Garth. Yeah. No, I actually went, I'm Garth. How did that come about? Did you write it for yourself or was it a script that was sent to you? It was a sketch. Mike Myers came into SNL and had a sketch, Wayne's World, but he didn't have a sidekick. and Lorne Michaels said, I think you might want to have a sidekick. And I was babyface for my age, kind of like David. So Mike said, you can be Garth. And the only thing he said was, Garth digs Wayne. So I went in the wardrobe apartment because he was brown hair.

51:46Dana Carvey:I got a blonde wig. I got these glasses. I remember that. Wayne's world. Yeah. Too cute. Still getting on SNL for a while and then they spun it off into a movie. I don't even know. That's amazing. We did two movies and yeah, I was able to write my little Garth parts, but I was the sidekick. I was like Robin, he was Batman, but it was fun. Do you feel like the industry completely changed? Completely shifted? Yes. Well, there's so much content. There's a million shows. When we're talking about that era. Yeah, for sure. Now. Well, there was no wokeness or political correctness back then. Oh, my God.

52:28Dana Carvey:You just could do comedies and they'd be a little offended or whatever. Wayne's World's pretty innocent. We don't do drugs or anything. But yeah, completely different time. It wasn't digital film. You had real, you know, it was like he did Tommy Boy a couple years later with Chris Farley. I couldn't describe how different it is, but now everyone can make a movie. Everyone can get on their iPhone and put it on Instagram or YouTube. I don't know. Yeah, it was an innocent time in many ways. Yeah. I think. Well, how would you describe it, David, the difference between early Hollywood in the 90s to now?

53:04Dana Carvey:It's a good question. By the way, mine was similar with Dana, where Chris Farley and I just worked together. We hung out a lot, and Lauren said, let's write them a movie the way they are in real life. And so that was the same thing, from SNL. Wow. Got SNL writers, and then he had a deal at Paramount and just said, we'll greenlight it, let's go. And it was a pretty easy process, especially back then. a lot harder to get movies now and then there's that woke part that comes in but you know and theaters versus live streamers do you think it's gonna balance like do you think woke will like you know people will stop being you know that sensitive what happened when they did you don't have to even answer this but in Snow White was there when people start changing like a movie that was the same and the new one is different i think that was where someone noticed why are you changing because they're still doing it you know they what was different i don't understand what was different well they were saying well i thought oh they oh maybe the only part was and i may be wrong is the no no tell me is it were the dwarves they were they didn't want to use dwarves is that crazy i don't know oh they wanted to use by the way i'm not supposed to call them uh you're not supposed to call them dwarfs you're supposed to call them magical creatures oh okay i have a very good friend who uh is a dwarf who wants to be called a dwarf oh really yeah by the way brad williams he's a stand-up comic he's brilliant wait little little magical creatures in the movie or in the movie oh in the movie oh you could say because they were uh i wasn't a lot it was so i think we're a little bit lost in translation.

54:50I think the needle is and I get it, it shifts, it goes too much and then it goes back to the center, whatever. But I think that the movie was very similar other than, you know, by the way, in the animation the dwarves are animated and they kept them animated in this one too. So I think that story-wise and everything, the story was kept super original. It was very much like the original one. Right. There are other movies where they start to change things since then, and that wasn't that long ago. But there's been changes where people go, why are you changing that? Yeah, it's true. Odyssey took some flack for that.

55:42So, uh, yeah, but then you go, when you watched a movie and you were like, you kind of forget about it. If you never heard anything, you don't care. Yeah, exactly. I feel like the, the noise we're hearing is mostly, uh, created online. Usually I think it's like, I have, it's not even a conspiracy. I know that it's true. There's like other forces that are not American and not Western are using and social media and all of that to kind of create chaos in our lives. And they managed to do so. And they do it in all different ways. Yeah, they do it when they use hate campaigns towards Snow White or whatever, or hate campaigns towards musicians or politicians or whatever it might be.

56:30Dana Carvey:Chaos. Just to create chaos, to create division. Yeah, and divided. It seems like something like that, like even Snow White, but a lot of movies. where when they decide to go after one, they pile on. Like it's not even like no one even wants to say. And they do it. Yeah, they do it so smart. And we became so superficial that we just followed the word. We're like, no, it's a bad movie. Right. It's just once people. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. No, I don't go on social media myself because it's so toxic. But do you go on it? Do you have an Instagram account? Can I? Yeah. Okay. I'm going to look at it.

57:12Dana Carvey:Yeah. Follow me. I'm on. With the account you don't have. Yeah. Nice job, Dana. She got you. I'm on it. I'm surprised. No, I know. David, do you follow me? I'm about to. Yeah. He's clicking on now, Heather. Well, I had to get a feel for you and make sure, you know, we want to get to know our people before we follow because it's not a light thing. I don't want you to experience the fame you're going to get when I follow you. I want you to be ready. David Spade. How many do you have? How many? I don't go by numbers. You have many. I do? Follow. Here, I'm just following you. Yeah, Spade has a huge.

57:52Okay, I'll give you about a, I might give you a week free trial and see how you do. I'll follow you. Hold on. Oh, thanks. I hope I'm good enough for you. I mean, my only advice is really give me the A stuff this week.

58:03Dana Carvey:My assistants, assistants, assistants will follow you. Wait, how many do you have? Well, my assistant, assistant's assistant. Do I have an Instagram page? Come on, you guys. Well, there are people who don't do it. They don't do it. There's famous people. I'm not sure. You don't even want to know how many she has. This is, this is. Let me guess. Let me guess. We got to hang up. Followers on Instagram? Yes. Yeah. I'm going to channel it. I'm going to channel it to you. Wonder Woman, Justice League. Okay. Fast and Furious. You're about to be wrong. I'm going to say 90 million. That's so high, by the way.

58:52That is so - How close am I? Hugely high. I can't even believe you guessed that high. You're missing 13, I think, or so. Okay. 103 million. It's just the way my mind works.

59:03Dana Carvey:Did you look it up? No. It's our connection. no because i'm i'm seeing this person and looking at her resume and thinking where she sits in the universe of show business and i came up with 90 million where do i sit in the business of show business well you're good to know you have a seat you're like sean conrey or something you know you're iconic oh my god you're the best thank you that's like now you returned the sexy compliment they gave you the beginning. Now we went through, sir. Sean Connery. Thank you. Sean Connery. Have you seen that clip on YouTube or something? I think it's his second James Bond and they're playing Baccarat and they're doing this stuff.

59:46Dana Carvey:And he goes, what do we call you? And they go to Sean Connery and he's doing the talking with the cigarette hanging out. Bond. James Bond.
