In short

Luke Wilson recounts getting stuck in an elevator with Wes Anderson and James L. Brooks during a 30th-anniversary Bottle Rocket screening, plus lots of tangents about Hollywood stories, old-school TV interviews, travel mishaps, and Halloween costumes.

Guest backgrounds

Luke Wilson is an actor and “friend of the show,” promoting his Netflix golf show Hawk. He’s worked with major figures across film and SNL, including Gene Hackman, Nick Nolte, Martin Sheen, Mickey Rooney, Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, Charlton Heston, and Harry Dean Stanton. He also co-stars in Hawk with Fortune Feimster and Molly Shannon (and has worked with Will Ferrell).

Key claims

The elevator incident lasted over half an hour; Luke removed his tie and jacket while waiting; the LA Fire Department got them out. Wes Anderson stayed funny and asked for updates via intercom, while James L. Brooks was initially quiet. Luke says his “Hawk” is a golf show and discusses how he’s often in demand for projects.

Notable examples

Joe T. Garcia’s in Fort Worth (they were put in a barn-like room); Luke’s gym story about an older man demanding he turn off a podcast; Halloween costumes like The Royal Tenenbaums and Joe Dirt; Luke’s “stuck” elevator fear scenario.

1:58But I'll never forget, as David walked up with the Mater D, David was saying, ah, this place is bigger than Chili's. It was. It was like five Chili's taped together. And this kid working in the airport said, hey man when are you gonna make a comeback oh yeah come back and i said well i uh you know you're already really down because you just missed a fight and i said well i i gotta get back to la to get this comeback started so how am i gonna be at least at least two days before i start the old comeback asking dina like like he was an anthropologist about married life you know Yeah.

2:47Dana Carvey:I was like an exotic insect. He's trying to understand. 43 years. You're telling me that when you walk in the door and it's the same woman, you don't want to. Yeah. What do you do then? We have Luke Wilson. Luke Wilson. Friend of the show for real. His first time. Yes. He has been on the show. He listens to the show and he said, let's do it again. Let's run it back. He's on his show Hawk on Netflix with Fortune, Molly Shannon, a lot of people we know. Will Ferrell, obviously. And looking forward to that. And of course, we have a nice chitter chat with him. And we hear all about what it's like to get stuck in an elevator.

3:39Dana Carvey:that goes a lot of places and there's some unexpected twists and turns in this episode i'll leave it don't worry we definitely interrupt him we definitely interrupt him but he's definitely in our hall of fame officially in the hall of fame of favorite guests we have a lot of favorite guests and he is he's uh a charming chap with a great sense of humor and tells great stories. So here he is, Luke Wilson. Luke, the first big question. Oh, here we go. First of all, I have, I was going to start with the question. So I feel like this is like a political debate where you're jumping the gun on me, but go ahead.

4:21No, I've been like, we love questions.

4:25Dana Carvey:Not since William Shatner, but we've been asked the question. I know that. And my first question was, and I have a lot. yes okay the first question was dana dana since you won't tell us the town the name of the town that you live in will you at least tell us the names of your horses i'm like i'm just as i listen to this show i'm like i like how dana's kind of evasive each time he says where yeah he's very north of santa balda uh yeah yeah it's a hermit kingdom we central central california I'm like, yeah. I've heard this horses. What are the names of your horses? Magrosa is the mom. Magrosa and Rojo.

5:12These are like Jiminy Glick questions. What are the names of your horses?

5:15Dana Carvey:What is the names? Now you fancy yourself a cowboy. Now what are they? Excuse me. Magrosa and Rojo. They're gray and red, kind of. But yeah, I keep... That's enough. Could we... I mean, you don't have to answer any questions I ask, but could you tell us your personal address where you live in L.A.? Would you give me your will you at least give us your pin number? Will you at least give us your four digit code? Hey, man, I know I'm. East of Fresno, I'm east of Goleta. no idea where any of these look we don't have crime here so we don't lock our doors ever so that's all you need to know

6:07okay fair enough i guess i guess dave we won't we get invited up there anytime soon we couldn't get there he goes go to santa barbara and then i'll come get you

6:19Dana Carvey:you guys are both invited because we have 2 ,600 people who are going to listen to this. So I want to make sure that they don't, you know, barge up here, but that no one's ever asked me that question. So thank you for the question. Well, I could sense just in different shows. I'm like, huh, this guy doesn't want us to know the town that he lives in. Okay. That's it's interesting and you know

6:51I'm unintentionally

6:52Dana Carvey:mysterious to people I'm unintentionally mysterious I don't know why it's a little Howard it's a little Howard Hughesian and I love Howard Hughes but he is someone I want to know a lot about so I guess that was it you ask him a question he dances around another question go ahead Well, I was just, this is more of just a statement. In the last couple of weeks, I've been going around saying a couple of things, one of which is, Judy Garland never owned a car. That's a great one. Which was what you were saying. A direct quote. From the great Nathan. Wasn't Nathan Lane funny? These are the Mickey. It was so great.

7:42I mean, you guys have had so many great episodes and to me, it's some of the great ones are when it's just you two guys talking. And but that Nathan Lane was so funny. And the fact that the fact that Dana and Nathan's stories linked up perfectly. It was not like Rashomon. Yeah. And, you know, that the Barbara Man, Barbara Mandrell, Barbara Mandrell. and nathan lane saying it that he kept repeating it as if it was an incantation yes and then then of course just you know you talked about mickey rooney before in that great line of saying from 1937 to 1944 i was the biggest star in the world wow number one star in the world

8:35Dana Carvey:You hear me? Bang. The world. And these are direct. And so, Nathan, I hadn't seen in a long time. I felt like we were literally I stepped back to 1981 in New York with him. And we and so we co-signed these memories that I told these stories and thought maybe I was a little exaggerating. Nope. It was spot on. The only thing I did disagree with, I thought the woman on the cover of the magazine, I thought it was Farrah Fawcett. But he remembers Barbara Mandrell, which is funnier. if it's funnier. It's funnier. Yeah. Barbara. And you can picture her in 1981 being on the cover of People. And the other great one was Mickey throwing his arm around Nathan saying, you know what I like?

9:19You know what's great about us? We like girls. I'm just glad we like girls.

9:26Dana Carvey:These are direct quotes, word for word. I didn't even do that. You've heard my scatman Caruthers stories. He was another one that we didn't get to. But yeah. He goes, Dana's a little light in the loafers. It's like, you know, and what Dana's saying, like, yeah, back then, you know, I had kind of a floppy haircut and like sometimes would do these imitations where somehow these guys thought that. Yeah. It's so funny. Like, I think we talked when I was last on about how, you know, how fun it is to have worked with those older guys. But then Mickey Rooney, that's kind of behind the generation that I ever got to work with.

10:05And you got to work with Burt Lancaster and Scatman Crothers. I mean, that's a whole other story.

10:10Dana Carvey:And Kirk Douglas. Yeah. Kirk Douglas and Burt. I know it's kind of weird. Well, since this is about you, I mean, I'm trying to just ascertain where you've cross-checked older actors and you're working with them and going, holy shit, I'm working with X, Y, and Z, as they say. You must add. you must have all those stories you have such a long resume oh for sure and i mean those are my the kind of the really along with working with people from snl which i've always loved it's getting the chance to work with those kind of i always look at them as like 1970s actors even though some of them got started kind of well before that but you know like gene hackman or yeah or nick nolte or martin sheen and those guys are just so great and like mickey rooney their stories somehow are just unbelievable.

11:03Yeah. Or not unbelievable. They're very believable, but you can't believe how great they are. But they're referencing all these cool things you remember. It's really cool that you got to work with those guys from that generation.

11:15Dana Carvey:Jesus, Reggie. Well, and also on SNL, we had, we had, sorry, it was just, we had Robert Mitchum and we had Charlton Heston as a, as a host. And that was very interesting on SNL, hanging out with those guys. Yeah. Right. How, how, how was, how was Robert Mitchum as a host? You mean Bob? Bob. Yeah. He had the classic Jack Daniels bottle, like a half gallon of Jack Daniels. And he was just stories about Vietnam and politics and weirdness. And we were in a Jack Handy sketch. If you know the reference, sometimes they're very esoteric and brilliant. we were playing beekeepers in the Himalaya mountains and we're dressed in the outfit and neither of us ever really knew what the sketch was about but he was he was old school yeah yeah I remember asked I I knew I knew Harry Dean Stanton the great character actor I knew Harry Dean knew Robert Mitchum and I said what was I asked trading i said what was robert mitchum like he said great guy always stoned oh really that's how it described mitchum and yeah he liked his his jack but it's harry dean say he liked a couple cocktails right i mean that was old school back then they had a bar on every set everyone was strong he was a he was a dan tana's fixture harry dean oh yeah i i remember being on a plane with harry dean and this would have been like 2001 and he asked the the uh the stewardess you know can i smoke on the plane she said uh no you you may not and then he said even in the bathroom um so yeah those guys were from another era here's trivia luke that i the first girl that dated me in la when i moved out here wound up with harry dean's tent really really not not not rebecca dma uh no from risky business they were they were friends oh i didn't i thought they were an item but really no it might have been them but that was it was uh it was um sort of probably in the middle because i am older i'm not older that's the only person i'm not what what was your what was your what was your first year in la david and and and was it before snl yeah i was back a ways i'm dana now it was just back then you know yeah What clubs did you play?

14:03They should call this The Evasive Hour with Dana and David No, they call us the Vagrant Maybe not

14:12Dana Carvey:When we aren't recording, this will drive the audience crazy, I'm going to tell you everything I wanted to know if Luke has ever been called Puke when he was a kid Oh yeah Were you around for Luke Skywalker? or was it you missed that oh those were two two big top two answers on the board oh and you know and my my friends called me puke and i had another friend um joey joey who called me sluk because his his his his family said when i called the house i'd say may i speak to joey this sluk oh this is slow this look all right i would have called you luca laylee oh look at luka play yeah i yeah it's funny luca play and i'd never seen that movie and then in like you know you know like eighth grade people started saying luca play key and i didn't get that i was called lucas because i was such a little puss and i went out for football and i was fragile and i couldn't get the girls i'm like fucking put me in that movie lucas was a great movie football i'm sure was rather intense like kind of texas football arizona yeah yeah people don't know we must talk about last time you have an enormous vo2 max gift which is unusual when you told me your 880 time i was like damn that's national traditional class vo2 max is you know this uh so that's it what i'm curious about with someone like you because luke is an alpha male name like a stud right so in high school neither david and i we could not really get girls were you popular in high school were you a late bloomer yes yes i um well i went to this school that i went to this no i went to this school that was very academically oriented.

16:14No, it wasn't military school. Owen went to a military school, but I went to a boys school that was very academically oriented and I did not have good grades. So things were more kind of oriented towards honor roll. And, you know, this guy was already had a scholarship to Princeton. And, but I did have, I had a really nice class and I really liked everybody and got along with everybody and so i i you know it's like when you say popular you think of like the uh the homecoming king but i i just feel like i had a nice class where i got along with people and not that you know you never had differences with guys but um yeah um kevin costner graduated high school

17:04Dana Carvey:graduated high school of five one then went to six one how tall were you when you graduated high school you don't have to answer these questions um no no i i this is great um i i think probably that i think i was about the same height i am now about you know 5 11 or 6 feet and then i'm always trying to figure out i think i think i kind of weighed more in high school almost i feel like i weighed like 170 i mean i weigh that up yeah i feel like i was maybe kind of bigger in high school Yeah, you kind of ballooned up lately. For a half mile, runner. Yeah. He's been with fucking Swartzen for the last month.

17:48Oh, my gosh. How embarrassing. Oh, I feel bad for him. He, you know, a few, and I only say this because he was so public about it, but about six days into the movie, he went down with his appendix, which is hard enough. And we were in, you know, Louisville, Kentucky, but he was outside of Louisville. Are there any doctors in that city or no? He was not even in Louisville, I don't think. He was kind of out more kind of in a rural area. Wow. But he got his appendix. And, of course, he was staying in, you know, like, you know, an extended state suite. So not where you want to convalesce. convalesce but his appendix he that he got hit with that had to get operated on for that then he got an infection and of course he was making these uh instagram videos yeah all about the illness but but we did get the movie done we had a good time and yeah and he was i mean to me i i only know him from having done the ridiculous six with adam sandler and i just that was when i first that was ridiculous and and i was in that scene is just i know i know what is working do was he writing jokes on it uh he was there for the yeah he was there for the duration i can't remember he played a part video village and cranking out jokes yeah and uh which which he did and then i i'd never been around him and just he's such he's such a good guy and such a funny guy yeah and so so it was funny to to do this movie we just did many wars together because he is guy he's he's a character and he was playing a real character i saw him with his watermelon head on instagram and i couldn't help but shit all over him every time he posted something i had no sympathy at all and i just make fun of him immediately i know at one point i said to one of the producers i said should he be posting these videos kind of possibly on his deathbed yeah um is this kind of aren't we aren't we kind of like a football team where you don't want to be posting about like where you where you're where you're kickers just had knee surgery um but yeah um yeah i started i thought gosh am i am i starting to now think like a producer but but should he really be doing this?

20:21Is this just how the younger generation does it where nothing is, nothing is secret. Everything is shared.

20:31Dana Carvey:Running a business means wearing a lot of hats, but I used to find that traditional banking options always seem to slow me down with endless friction, like plain phone tag just to chase down the status of an international wire transfer. 23:21Luke, I ran into one of your buddies last night. He's like, he even knew we were doing this. I'm like, holy shit, man. I know. He went to dinner with us when we went to dinner. What was that place called? Go. oh yeah joe t garcia's yeah yeah joe t garcia's in fort worth where i'll never forget you it's this mexican restaurant that started in a little house and then just over the years kept expanding and expanding and expanding to where it takes up a whole block and it goes through kind of an outdoor area then into another building and through a dining room but but i'll never forget as David walked up with the Mater D, David was saying, this place is bigger than Chili's.

24:06It was. It was like five Chili's taped together. I went and they had Luke. They go, we'll take care of you guys. They put us in a barn 100 yards away from the restaurant. I go, no one's working in this place. They just sent a guy in and sent a bartender in there for us. We're like, I kind of want to get a feel for the whole place. I know it's like that thing where I'm sure you guys have had it happen before where this, well, we'll put you in a special room and it's, and they lead you to a room where it's just you and your two friends be like, well, we, we would like to kind of be maybe out in the bar.

24:41It's kind of cold and dark. You know why? Because we're not going to get, we're not going to get mobbed. We're not going to get. Mobbed.

24:52Dana Carvey:Mobbed. Attacked. They had someone from like Real Housewives of New Jersey that went there and said, I need my own special room. So they're like, I guess we I guess that's what these people want. They want that shit. And it is fun to go to a place like that because you want to see what the vibe is and get in there and mix it up. And especially like Fort Worth is a great town. And that that is a that's my favorite, you know, Mexican food in Texas. is pretty much this is usually the point in the show when when the guest asks you guys so so when does the show start always like that happens yeah like no no nobody we don't this is good as it gets pal i mean this is it speaking of the show i had this i had a funny thing happen where i guess you guys will tell me if it's funny or not it was funny to me but I I was down in San Diego when I was I was at this gym and I'd stopped using those earbuds because I felt like they were kind of giving me tinnitus and at the at the you know gym I'll go to in LA I just play it off my phone with no earbuds because you know there's that music black terrible music blasting everyone everyone else has on earbuds so I yeah exactly so so I just listen to it no one ever says anything i just have it on loud and i'll be you know on the elliptical but i'm down in this gym in san diego where it was kind of older people older than me and you know same thing i had it playing you know just off my phone with no earbuds and finally this older guy next to me was like would you turn that off i was listening to you guys that's what i'm going to and he said would you turn that off shit off and i said i said oh my gosh i said i i'm really sorry i didn't realize you could hear it i could hear it he said would you turn that off okay i said i'm really sorry and then he said it's obnoxious and i wanted to say that me doing that or the guys on the show um no it's a good question i I can't believe Lovitz would say that to you.

27:09Dana Carvey:It's so out of character. Lovitz goes to your gym. Turn it off. Is this the one where they make fun of me? You guys are always using that line. He says, we're like, jealous? Jealous? Jealous. No, I saw him the other night for dinner, and he was so funny. He goes, oh, the bill came. He goes, I got it. And then he goes, my wallet. I just wanted to make sure I had it. No, he does a whole dance. He knows what he's doing. No, he said he'll split it. He splits it sometimes. I like playing funny. Yeah. John's just eccentric. I took one day to know him and 20 years to believe it. He is great. He's another one of my SNL favorites.

27:59Dana Carvey:He is always funny. Oh, no, he is a monster in the paint, if you know the reference. John Lovitz in 8H was a laugh machine. I just saw him, you know, I was clicking through channels and saw him on an episode of Seinfeld where he was really funny. He's funny on everything. Every time he shows up, he's funny. He really is. Excuse me. And he is one of those guys that he, you know, he doesn't appear to be exerting any effort. But, you know, if someone's not funny, they're very sharp witted and kind of. uh you know have ideas i have a question when we're done talking about love it's but um which i do like to hear uh when do you have any any of your movies i can think of tannenbaums where it's like a halloween costume because i see some tannenbaums right right it's kind of cool to see that that's that's the primary one it seems it's a good look but yeah that's an every year I get pictures from different people.

29:00I like that. Don't you think it's cool? And now pictures from, you know, people that weren't even born when it was out, but they'll have the Richie Tenenbaum character, which is my character, and then the Gwyneth Paltrow Mark Margo Tenenbaum character. But yeah, I mean, I'm sure there's some Joe Dirtz. That's got to be a popular one. Joe Dirtz is actually I want to be more flattered, but it's pretty easy. It's like People go really lo-fi. It's like last minute. I have jeans, work boots, flannel shirt, maybe cut the sleeves off. And then some don't even put on a shitty mullet. They put on like a messy, they mess up their hair.

29:40I go, no, you're not winning any contest. And they love hearing that. Because the Tenenbaum one is, you know, I'm always thinking, where did you get a camel hair suit? and like this, you know, vintage Vila, you know, shirt and headband So I'm definitely always impressed by the effort that goes into it. Dana, do you have a Halloween character? It would just be

30:09Dana Carvey:Garth. Any high school girl with long blonde hair does the glasses, the flannel goes like this Yeah, it's very cute It's very sweet yeah david and i were playing this giant 5 000 seat casino and go let's do q a so we come out and they're already you know the casino it's pretty raucous in there on the left there was a teenage girl dresses garce jumping down screaming i love you i love you let's go to the other side of the stage there was another teenage girl and then there was a joe dirt in there too i think and we made them and a tandem bomb they're good hey do you know do you know luke wilson is i uh i really want to i want to i really want to see you guys live um so i'm gonna and by the way your your travel stuff you guys always kid around that you talk too much about the travel stuff but yeah i think that anybody that has to travel for work it's it's very appealing to listen to someone else's travel we give you the lows not the highs we give you the exactly whether it's the the plane or the room i just had a classic one where i they wouldn't give me a key to my room after i've been up and down and i said oh you're you're you're you know and i didn't have any id um and i said oh you're gonna give me a key we're gonna work Oh, you're going full Luke on him, huh?

31:42Dana Carvey:Do you ever try to scam the maids into doing it? Oh, yeah. I stand by when they're there and I go... Sometimes it works. I know. I always say I can describe exactly what's inside the room. You're going to see a green backpack and you're going to see a pair of pants hanging over the shirt when you walk in. They go, Luke, do you want me to get those towels off the ceiling? What accent is that? well most no if so people know if you're in the mgm grand you you do your show you have to walk kind of like a half mile to your room and then it goes and it doesn't work the worst and you're like really that's what i'm saying yeah it's the walk that gets you um yeah they're like go down to the ferris wheel take a right then it's about you're going to pass four bars and then you're going to get on a lady susan then i don't like to fly but the last time i came into santa barbara it was a hard landing i don't i have no fear when we're about to land i just don't like to take off but the flight attendants both basically screamed i was in the pointy part of the airplane and they were sitting there i was like bam and i got to be the cool guy for once what hey you okay you okay you all right calm down i'm more like on the takeoff when they get scared when those flight attendants get scared they pick up the phone and go what the fuck is going on that's when i get scared because i go they they've seen it all no that's where i listen and i hear really that bad okay we'll we'll clear the set yeah i i get anticipatory when you hear that drink cart just rattling it can be a little scary they go like They go, yeah, they go.

33:32A terrorist on this flight? And they go. Okay. And I'm like, you shouldn't have said that so loud. I'm sitting close. A terrorist on this flight?

33:42Dana Carvey:Yeah, I had a friend who was so afraid of that. We got on a plane and then there were empty seats. And then 10 Middle Eastern men sat down and started going. And I go, it's too obvious. Just relax. It's way too obvious. Nothing's going to happen. But he was absolutely. This was after 9-11 folks Don't write me any letters please No letters please Don't let me do the metaphorical Anyway I just tried to film a fight out in the street I was walking along And it was fucking boiling out And I'm like Going through my day I got this Luke shit I gotta do I'm just kind of going through my head This Luke shit?

34:22Our favorite reoccurring guest I know And I'm finally excited about doing it once And then I go, and then I see this African-American kind of black guy, and he's walking by. Kind of black guy? Well, there's a Mexican guy, and they're already arguing. So I go, should I film this? It's 2026. He's digging. I go, should I film these guys fighting? Because then I can get on TikTok and be a big hero, you know? Mm-hmm. Because I always see fights. Everything I see on my TikTok is just fighting. Mm-hmm. So I start filming. Then the dude looks at me and I go, I don't know what to do. So I, I walk away.

34:59Then he runs and punches the dude and then throws him on the ground. And the guy gets up and throws something at him. And I'm like, should have filmed it. But anyway, then I walked down, blah, blah, blah. And then I guess I'm almost to my car. He's walking this way. He comes right at me. And I was like, cause I know I'm the little rat that was filming him. And I have the evidence. Right. And this is just another Monday. On the way here. Yeah. Are you kidding? Yeah, that's right. No, I swear. Yeah. And then I was like, oh, no. If this happens, the worst thing will happen. Luke will be sitting waiting to get on the Zoom like this.

35:34On Instagram, somehow I'll get those videos of guys on golf courses getting in fights. Oh, yeah. It must be a sign of getting older because I do not like to watch them. No, it's really rough because, you know, someone's day is ruined.

35:51Dana Carvey:Well, you'll see a guy with his shirt off being alpha alpha, right? Like he beats up everyone in his life. And then some guy just knows how to box, cold cocks him, knocks him flat in front of his wife. First she's like, oh, go get him, you sexy beast. And then she's like, you're not so tough. It's kind of sad. The only good one was when. There were guys that are in their 70s. You're like, gosh, this is just, you'd think that hopefully you'd get to that point and not want to be thrown down. always be getting in fights there was one guy that was saying i don't fight screaming at the other guy and then finally and the guy was kind of big he was screaming at and then he took off his shirt he's like let's go let's go yeah i saw that one and then he fucking threw him down and then the guy got him again he beat the shit and he finds out the guy's a hockey enforcer he's a real hockey player that beats guys up he threw him around like a rag doll and the guy kept coming back and i'm like do you have ct why do you keep coming back and get beat up again now you have you're out you're out of gas and you still got to go come on you fucking pussy and then again wham yeah that's like whenever you see those flyweight boxers and you think okay if you put kind of like an oversized t-shirt on one of these guys they might just look like a little guy but i do feel like i have a good radar for someone that's just kind of a badass that you'd look for those cauliflower our ears what does your youtube feed you luke at night and you're just like i'll go some youtube clips it starts feeding you obviously golf golfers getting beat up what's in your rotation i'm i'm i'm always shocked by how on the money it is or something i haven't thought of that i'm like gosh i cannot wait to watch this a lot of it will be you know um i got into a real like john Houston interviews phase and then also I like like like Mitchum on Dick Cavett kind of things like you know rock get a lot of rock and roll I do get old clips from like midnight special of bands those are great and the Don Kirshner show and and then there's a great one like a European one called Rockplast with this kind of funny bearded host but it's you know it'll be like the rolling stones in 1972 but that's i know kind of what i get the the most it seems i uh but yeah i'm always youtube is great just anything you're interested in you can look it up and uh but yeah it's always fun to see those great old you know in those interviews where you know they're not bombing through the interview like they do now on talk shows they were just so much more conversational.

38:43Yeah. Dick Cavett was like a, I get a lot of old Carsons. Yeah. The old Carsons are just great. And like I went through where I, I think I watched every Bob Newhart and Johnny interview and those are so unbelievable. Like them making each other laugh and it's also so conversational, but there's just, you don't feel that vibe of, okay, you know, this story, then that story and this story then an ice bucket ice bucket challenge and um i don't even know if it's planned like i mean nowadays i never knew that you have to sort of give them an idea of what you're going to say and tell them stories ahead of time and they go we like those stories i back then it really felt like i don't know if it was planned or not but because it would have dead spots which was fine you know they would just talk and then we wouldn't have a good answer and then it'd be silent yes yes yeah yeah that's what i I like that.

39:40It's more real. There would be pauses in the conversation where Johnny would be just looking and kind of smiling. Dana, you have great Johnny stories, even though it kind of ended with him. Maybe he had his feelings hurt by Corsenio, but did you guys ever get to kind of smooth it over?

40:01Dana Carvey:Not really. I kind of regret that. It wasn't Corsenio. Corsenio, they're making fun of Corsenio as much as they're making fun of us. You see that, Carsino? So he was okay with that. It was one where Susan Day came on, and Johnny didn't know the Partridge family had been off the air. So how's that show going? And he felt on Monday, before he started the show, Johnny apparently said, is she Edward? She's now. Did you see that? He didn't say Saturday Night Live. So that was unfortunate. But inhabiting Johnny was just complete Nebraskan earnestness. You know, so Luke, you just came into it and you shut up the mic and here you are.

40:43Dana Carvey:And you're talking to Dana Garney and David Spudler. I guess there are some pre-fi entertainers. Is that right? It's just this sort of that's why he's good with old people. But I was and young people. But I was going to say that he was the king and there is no singular king now. There's so many shows. I mean, Colbert just got bounced, but like the competition and the intensity, because all the other choices. But Johnny was the settled king by the 70s. Cavett made a little noise, but yeah. So that was Snyder was good. Tom Snyder. He was great. And that's that's that's that's another great, you know, YouTube thing is the American Masters about Johnny, where he goes back to Nebraska.

41:26Yeah. where you kind of see that other side of Johnny that you would hear about where he was a little more quiet and thoughtful. But yeah, Tom Snyder was great. He'd smoke a few butts during an interview. All right, sir. Fair enough, sir.

41:43Dana Carvey:Yeah, I went on his show once and then he didn't show up. I'm in the chair and the show's starting, the music, everything. And there's no Tom Snyder. And his first line, this was like 97 or something. He goes, so you're making fun of Johnny on the show. why are you making fun of johnny carson he went right after that like four years after the effect and i said you know what fuck you and they cut that part no i just said are you kidding i'm kidding ask johnny you know what tom fuck you and the horse you rode in on well uh so anyway tell us about getting stuck in an elevator because that's my biggest fear oh god i uh It just shows how the news has changed.

42:25You could have written a book or had some great movie come out, and people are like, so you were stuck on an elevator.

42:37Wes Anderson and I and James L. Brooks had gone to the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences for a 30th anniversary screening of Bottle Rocket. Bottle rock. Cool. The first. And, and it was, you know, we went and, and got to walk around the museum a little bit, which is really cool. I'd not been in there. And then we had, and then we did a nice talk before I say nice talk because it was great to do it instead of a Q and a after, but we did a talk before and Wes was great and really funny on stage. And James L Brooks is always really interesting and thoughtful. And then when we finished that, we were going to go to dinner.

43:25And for some reason, you know, we were only one floor up, but they put us on this elevator and it was, you know, 11 people. And the thing just stopped. And I'd not been on an elevator that fully stopped and gotten stuck. And I had on a sport coat and a tie. And about, you know, 10 minutes in, I take off the tie. And then, you know, at about 20 minutes in, took off the jacket and, you know, could not get out and eventually kind of pried the doors open, you know, that much to get a little air. And then you had to eat James L. Brooks. Did you have light? Was it was it dark or was it?

44:07Dana Carvey:It was it was it was it was daytime. time and then they did have to call the uh the la fire department and and looked out you know got the doors apart and saw those guys walking and they they we we we didn't feel that they were walking with the urgency that we would have hoped for but but but still i i said hey at least we're going to get to see some hunky lf la fire department you know but they they did get us out but it was over it was over half an hour and it was it was definitely yeah i'm not at not claustrophobic but did start to think you know okay you know what would happen if there was a fire or an earthquake or something bad and we're in a metal box oh yeah what were the other people like did they interview hey luke wilson were they civilians so a quote-unquote or were they part of the show on the in the elevator it was you know a few a few public a few publicists of a few people from the academy james o brooks so so yeah no just regular people so a quote-unquote yeah right there there was nobody that wasn't associated with the talk but yeah so we managed to get out of there but it yeah it is a couple of people took took pictures and and then it went i guess it's gone semi-viral.

45:33Dana Carvey:Are you crying? I'm just so, I'm very curious about Wes Anderson because he doesn't do a lot of interviews. And in that situation, was his creative mind going like, is he going to put that in a movie or something? Or he seems, his movies are so singular, Wes, you know? Wes was really funny on it because Wes got on the intercom, the maintenance and had this, I wish I could remember what he was saying. And then, and then, and then at one point through the doors to the LA fire department, you know, Wes said, would you just at least give us an update? Are you making progress? And the guy was like, sir, we're doing what we can to get you out of there when we can get you out of there.

46:18And, uh, and he, and he cut, and he kind of gave Wes a bit of a brushback bitch, um, Which Wes took in good stride. But Wes was I James L. Brooks at the beginning was very quiet. And I thought, gosh, I hope he's not claustrophobic. And then he got very funny and started filming it. I was I I felt like I was getting kind of a little more starting to think, you know, getting a little more concerned as the time went on. And it was airless, you know, to feel that airless feeling where you get that sheen of sweat on you. And then, yeah, just thinking. And when you look through the little. Is this it?

47:04When you could get the door open, it was it was a metal bars, a great, you know, it wasn't just an open floor where you just thought, OK, if they pry these open, we can at least jump out or crawl out. And then the other side. The other side was this thick, you know, museum glass.

47:22Dana Carvey:I had a stuck elevator story. If you want to hear that. I would love to. My wife and I and Arnold Schwarzenegger are in an elevator. It's not a competition. Yeah. I know. It stops and everybody's kind of quiet. It just stops. And we're just sort of waiting, waiting, waiting. And then it lurches a little bit. And then Arnold, two minutes of silence just goes, yeah, now it's getting interesting. You know, but he was like the terminator he's like don't worry i know how to do things in these situations they're gonna come in the minute now but this is a very interesting situation but the elevator is supposed to go up and the doors are supposed to open but we're stuck in the darkness and i go thanks for explaining that whole thing no problem let me light a cigar and i'll tell you more you don't mind if i smoke but most of that story was true until i went off on a flight of fancy but Yeah, this is getting very interesting.

48:22Dana Carvey:He was very cool. I will say that the L.A. Fire Department was great. They got us out of there. They were very cool customers. So thanks to those guys. When they moseyed on over there. You know, I would say it would be less scary. It wasn't like backdraft. I'll put it like that. They weren't charging extra stairs. I love backdraft. What you'd hope for is a little more kind of. Check that door for heat. Yeah.

48:51Dana Carvey:look david there's some things in life you just want to keep running like your browser history right you don't want everyone or a questionable swimsuit choice fyi but when it comes to your phone bill total transparency is everything i gotta be honest that's why i really do i love mint mobile yeah listen my if i anything ever happens to me please drive to my house and burn my laptop um they looked at everything these guys at mint mobile they looked at everything wrong with the wireless industry and they actually fixed it they uh offering premium wireless for just 15 bucks a month you get the uh blazing fast data you get unlimited talk and text on the nation's largest 5g network without any hidden gotchas that's they usually have it's incredibly easy to switch keep your current phone you can have your same phone number mine's bad by the way i would change it uh and then choose a three six or 12 month plan to completely say goodbye to that annoying monthly bill you know it is time to ditch those overpriced carriers come on people to get your new wireless plan for just 15 bucks a month is anything 15 bucks a month anymore nothing go to mint mobile.com slash fly wall that's mint mobile.com slash fly wall cut your wireless bill to 15 bucks a month at mint mobile.com slash fly wall that's it there's no catch right david from payment of 45 bucks for three months 90 for six months or 180 for 12 months plan required$15 per month equivalent taxes and fees extra initial plan term only greater than 50 GB may be slow when network is busy includes up to 20 GB hotspot capable device required availability speed and coverage varies you just go to mintmobile.com all your answers yeah Yeah, that's mints.

With her thrown on the line, Mo and JoJo embark on an increasingly unhinged scheme to secure succession. 54:00Now, Luke, listen, I think that if you told someone, because I've been stuck, and my story is way better, I'm not going to tell it, but I've been stuck, and if you told someone, could you handle this for 31 minutes you might be able to get your head around it but people forget you think you're in there forever there's no ending oh that's why you freak out all night so they hear 30 minutes they go i could do 30 but you're not told that ahead of time so it's like being on a desert island or anything you're on the runway for for two hours you go i guess but do you think it's there's no end right and yeah and then they they stuck they stuck they stuck it like a a little spatula through and you thought okay what the hell is that gonna do and then they stuck you know like a kind of a clothes hanger thing through and you know nothing was really doing anything and uh nothing's doing yeah was there cake on the spatula that's what i'm not kidding that's what it looked like but because of course you know i'd said you know they'll have the jaws of life they'll pry these open they'll break the door off I would think.

55:10But I did say at one point, you know, to the woman from the academy, I said, you might need to call the head of the academy now because the maintenance, they're not doing much. They don't seem to, or at least call the president of Otis Elevators. Just call the president Trump.

55:31Dana Carvey:I like the name. No, that top, I mean, I'm sorry I interrupted. I was halfway through your elevator story and then I inserted Arnold and then we finally got the rear of the spatula and all this stuff. We're just glad you're safe, Luke. But shouldn't we mention the show that he's on? What is with the Hawk and what the hell is that about? It's a golf. It's a golf. You got me there. I've been doing so much press. Did you see me? It's a golf show. Oh, you've, okay. You've been on a press tour for this. We'll make it interesting. I only did a couple of days, but it was coming off two weeks of nights.

56:17So, so I, I, you guys did nights on Swartz's movie.

56:22Dana Carvey:Do you just get an offer kind of every day of something? Seems like you are highly in demand. Very. Just every day they go, there is this thing. You're probably not going to do it, but they like you to do this and that. You know? No. No, I'm sure it's just like, I'm sure it's just like with you guys where people say, are you working all the time where you say, no, you know, sometimes you're very busy. And then other times it seems you're off for six or nine months, um, which, you know, can be, can be, can be nice too. I mean, I, I enjoy both. Um, or something doesn't come out like for a year and they go, where have you been?

57:01One guy goes, yeah. The big question is got any movies when they get nervous, they don't know what to say. got any movies coming out i go like i remember someone asked me during the wrong missy i go oh uh yeah the wrong missy on netflix i go oh i didn't see that got any other ones well how many do i fucking need it takes a year to shoot a year to come out when was kidding around with will ferrell about that where he said he'd had a guy say like so are you still making movies and i said one one and will said yeah i i just had a movie come out maybe like four months ago where i'd missed a flight up at mammoth and it was like snowy day the flights are only two days i got the day wrong and this kid working in the airport said hey man when are you gonna make a come back oh yeah come back and i said well i you know you're already really down because you've just missed a flight and i said well i i gotta get back to la to get this comeback started so how am i gonna be at least at least two days before i start the old comeback but thank you

58:13Dana Carvey:he's like get back on that audition circuit i remember being at an event first few months snl afi kirk douglas thing jimmy stewart's over there and we're around this table i remember people he's 82 he's jimmy stewart jimmy fucking stewart and they're saying yeah he's not working much lately and i thought you cannot win the game of show business if jimmy stewart can't win it what chance do i have yeah he's not really fucking you know anyway even you know when those kind of old actors just kind of stop working in a dignified way they kind of do that whether it's like gene hackman or they kind of say it about jack nicholson now like oh well you know jack he's not working anymore it's like yeah well he's 86 it's probably he has 40 classic movies and three oscars does that count for something right so he's probably enjoying just sitting around with his art.

59:19You know what a good move is? And this is what I'll do is when I see someone that hasn't been working for a while, what a strategy is a real strategy is they announced their retirement. They go, they're just not that many parts. And you know, I'm going to, and so you never really have to do that because you sort of get forced into retirement from show business. But if you say that it's your last swing of people going, you know what? They'd be good for this because you're in the paper again one last time to announce a retirement paper and they go oh okay well maybe we should use them right but it always seems to be it always seems to be guys like russell crowe or daniel day lewis where i you know steve martin had that great line where he said you're you're out of the business for five years before you know it no one gave you the memo yeah do they

1:00:13Dana Carvey:mention oh uh your brother to you a lot and try to contrast and compare or anything like that oh yeah they always and always get and of course now we we both have golf shows um so bring up you know bring that up but yeah people that's another thing people always want to kind of say like are you guys competitive and say no you you you it's kind of like we're on the same team where you want the other person to do well you know we're not we're not uh we're not we're not the everly brothers we're not feuding we actually get along very well just very well and we are in the business firmly and doing work and uh this is it looks a little like richard gear and pretty woman here right now uh yeah yeah dicky dicky gear and pretty woman richard gear in Pretty Woman right now.

1:01:08Dana Carvey:With Jules Roberts? With no gray hair. Like younger than that. Like early, like Officer and a Gentleman. I don't know why I just saw that. There's another great actor. Kind of unsung great actor. Where's he been? Hilarious. Richard Gere? No, he is a stud, yeah. Is that what you're talking about? He was great. He is fantastic. Unbelievable. Officer and a Gentleman on top of everything else. What's your go-to? I'm always so curious about movies that you love You don't have to say your best or whatever But movies that you would watch another time Maybe or something like that I'm just curious I'll throw out The Godfather just to start it Oh for sure The Godfather And the great thing about that is it's always on But I do love Chinatown And that is one of those ones where I feel like i still don't understand everything about it which is great yeah and like like yeah i think fay down away to fucking p cotton yeah james james khan wrote down to thief is supposed to get what about they're redoing heat i know i saw that but i think um i think what they're doing with heat was michael mann wrote a book which is a not a precursor whatever that word is but i believe that's what they're doing so it's like val kilmer's character when he was younger de niro character and i i read the book it is great oh the greatest thing about heat was i think that pacino when pacino went full sudden scream that was what are you gonna do you're going to make a move.

1:02:57Dana Carvey:I can't even. Was that in Kate Mandelini? That's brilliant. You know, Kate Mandelini. Yeah. That was that, that showdown between De Niro. The only scene De Niro and Pacino were in together. Yeah. Did you guys used to go to Kate Mandelini? I used to go there all the time. I'm so mad it's over with. Cause I know no one did anything with it. No, right across from Dana's manager's building. I'm going to lunch there for South Payne. I have a manager? What about you guys? What are a few of your guys' favorite movies that you can watch repeatedly? Yeah. You know, I love Soylent Green. I watched that recently.

1:03:42That's one. I don't know that I've ever seen it. I know what it's about. Don't tell me what it's about. Edward G.

1:03:48Dana Carvey:Robinson. I like science fiction. I know Soylent Green is people. Yeah. I mean, as far as... Yeah. Yeah, and Edward G. Robinson is so brilliant in that, and Charlton Heston. I love Planet of the Apes. I love 2001 Space Odyssey. As far as Redford in the 70s, some people don't like it, but I just look at Three Days of the Condor, the way we were. I look at all the president's men. I mean, his run in there all the way to the natural, and then the horse whisper, whatever. He's like underrated or something, but his charisma, especially three days the condor with fade done away. And one of the greatest moments when she says goodbye to him at the subway station.

1:04:31Dana Carvey:And he goes, just don't call any, I just need five minutes. And the hurt on her face is like as good as it gets, you know, it's like James Fonda and the China syndrome, you know, China center was unreal. Silkwood too. I mean, yeah. Silk, Silkwood's one of those ones. I've tried to find it to watch and it's not on Amazon you can't find it on YouTube I don't know Mike Nichols directed that that's a great one it's so cool I like those mysteries with big stars once upon a time in Hollywood I love some Tarantino you're always doing that that's a good plan where he's crying let's face it i'm a goddamn husband don't cry in front of the mexicans what that guy say to you i think there's a lot worse things than going to italy and make italian westerns i'm goddamn italian western how many you've seen one two let's face it i haven't been a stump man a long time and i like hanging out your haciana when you're out of town i'm brad pitt and there's no one cooler so fucking cut it quentin he's a good one no i memorized the whole movie i saw it 11 times i just love movies i love movies i think that was that was definitely uh a two two times in the theater for me which i had not done in a long time yeah you have to see it i love i love i love when you quote that dana and that's one that does have a lot of gold in it oh yeah it's it's it's magic one thing i was just I was so curious because you said a few minutes ago, like if you have nine months off, what do you do?

1:06:12Dana Carvey:Are you a painter? Are you an athlete? Are you, you know, what are you doing with your time off? What's your hobbies? What's your muse? I'm all of these things you mentioned. I'm a painter. I'm an athlete. Are you? Okay. I snorkel. I sail. Yeah. I think you are. You're a renaissance man. I've been sketching you this whole time we've been. That's funny. I don't call myself a Renaissance fan. Other people do. Yeah. These are other people's words. I do play a lot of golf and I go back to Texas a lot. I don't do it. I want to, as I've gotten older, I want to kind of try and do a better job traveling.

1:06:59like owen does a good job kind of going to you know different countries and stuff isn't he good at going alone i see him alone sometimes i'm like that's all i kind of would like to do that i do that more than most people but to travel alone i don't really do yeah i think he like you know i've been i've gone to london with him he's been like uh we got to go over to to dave's house i got to get my bike and i'll be like you you keep a bike in london same thing in Paris. I have to go to Javi's house. I've got to get my bike. You have a bike in Paris as well? Yeah.

1:07:38Dana Carvey:I hung out with him a little bit. He once said, you know, hey, you want to go to Argentina and surf? I go, I guess so. I'm thinking of going to Gelson's in a few minutes. Yeah, exactly. I know. Argentina is west of Texas. That's all I really do. Well, the only reason I bring up the artist thing is because I don't know if you heard this, but I was hanging out with Christopher Walken a while back, about a year ago. And I said, do you paint? And he just said, of course, all old actors paint. Like, it's of course you paint at a given point. You're too young. No, I haven't taken it up. But I mean, it is one of those things where I just always appreciate when, you know, anybody has, you know, I don't fly fish, but I know those guys.

1:08:26to do where you just yeah you know you just appreciate having something where you can kind of lose yourself for a few for a few hours yeah um uh but um like meditate so does this take us to buzzing around no i okay another thing one of my favorite things was when you guys were on bill mar recently and and and you could it was i i club random is great is great as well um where he interviews people and you know he yeah he smokes and he drinks on it yeah yeah you guys did seem to be his favorite guests and and um but it was funny at the end you know where he seemed kind of high and had a good buzz he was like i i could sit here and talk to you guys for two more hours and david said i gotta get to a dinner i had a hard hour i know i would have gone longer but yeah and he was serious but i was like that that would be a great way to leave a talk show like i uh actually got to hit it thanks for having me uh that had me laughing as much as anything because then he got really hurt he goes well and i go dana can stay i don't

1:09:49Dana Carvey:know my wife happened to be in i had to meet her and you know it just what happens is with these monologues these comedians like larry david and bill maher they just love old-timey impressions in illicit circumstances like they laugh forever i mean it's crazy how much they love that shit so i love to do it for them you know and he's a good laugher bill was funny bill's a good half asleep drunk and stone and laughing and it's just funny to he's a fun hangout yeah yeah he is it is different uh than he is on uh real time he's great on real time but he does seem like on club random like he is at home just catching a buzz with people and uh but he he really he no kidding he seemed to enjoy you guys more than any other guests i've ever seen on there even though i did notice david was a little more quiet than dana and reserved during that show bill was trying to kind of talk about you know you know being single and oh yeah i didn't like that he didn't like that david was david was not getting down with that i'm like bill i haven't seen you out in 10 years where where are you guys like this worst thing he's like we like the younger guy i'm like shut up right off the top right off the bat and david looked like suddenly like he was on 60 minutes he was just kind of turned into a statue i'm going bill just say you do i don't care but don't try he was definitely doing it like hey you and me we like and he's like we don't apologize guys i'm like me again am i still in this kind of ask asking dana like like he was an anthropologist about married life you know yeah i was like an exotic insect he's trying to understand you know 43 years you're telling me that when you walk in the door and it's the same woman you don't want to yeah what do you do then yes you don't want to do it like the end of five easy pieces and just get on a bus and leave like great reference five easy pieces funny take your ham sandwich that whole thing was fantastic i just want the bread so remove the bacon and the tomato between your best thing in the world is to be in some movie that people have seen and liked because it doesn't happen often but oh but like luke when people see you in movies you go i've watched that a hundred times and you go if this is anything like when i used to watch a movie then this is the ultimate compliment because i i know it's i just it's hard to get one right and being a good one i can never quite you know kind of accept it because i know how i feel about those movies and i just think how can they feel that it's it's like when um you know uh but yeah i i i know what you mean and you are and you are so lucky yeah to have people say you know you know we watch this you know me and my friends watch this once a month yeah um me and my dad watch it me and my kids watch you go fuck so which one is the biggest banger is it i mean tenner bombs for the costumes but is it some west movies or or that some of the some of the will ferrell sing it a little bit old school and those ones i think i think old school and and idiocracy and but but there's so funny there's somewhere like idiocracy just was such a flop when it came out you're then that's the feeling i have about it was just a failure yeah so then when people quote it to you say they love it you're something oh thank you thank you but there's still for me there's still the sadness there and even like where were you yeah yeah my judge right mike judge yeah yeah people mention a lot like this is like idiocracy like it keeps coming up people like this is they predicted this exactly and then so at least it made a dent that's all you want is some culty exactly and then now there's the last made a movie called the family stone so i'll have people say Me and my family, we watch that every year at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

1:14:14And you just can't. I don't believe it.

1:14:18Dana Carvey:I don't believe you. I have one called Trapped in Paradise where we just fell down in the snow for three months. Me, Nicolas Cage, and John Lovitz. I mean, people go, it's on our holiday list. I go, really? Let's unpack that. It doesn't even make sense. We're just falling down in the snow. nine weeks of nights for these guys on top of it being not well i mean i i just did two and a half weeks of nights it will make you feel like you've like you've lost your mind i and you know being older makes it so much harder i think i think i did i think i did a month of nights you know when i was like 28 or something and you know just yeah you're so lost you know when you get home people are going to bed you're right going to work doesn't right it's so weird i mean i've got some nights coming up usually if i'm part of the writing we troubleshoot the script for nights we go this is a bar tonight it could be in the day or not could anything be in the day and it still makes sense right it doesn't need to be night yeah okay it makes a big difference and everyone's fucking out of it yeah people get people get loopy and you know that then it does yeah it's and then you get home and it's it's a very odd feeling unsettling to me almost when you're trying to go to bed and that yeah exactly just for uh just for a second ago i mean what i remember telling john voik he's hanging out in new york for a while when i was doing this and got to know him and it's talking about coming home and the champ and so again don't have to know oh sorry john void and deliverance and stuff and the only thing he said was you know we worked really hard on those movies really hard so he didn't he didn't disown them or go yeah it was pretty good but deliverance is one of those movies hard to watch in a way because but it's um you know and that guy who who had his way with uh who's the actor ned baity he was at he was at a gym i used to go to in la for a while and he would do that to you no he tried but no but he said that he had a problem with it i thought it was fine but he had a problem with it you know i'm sure he did yeah that's something like hey we just wrote this at video village ned we're gonna throw something at you let's try it.

1:16:44Dana Carvey:Gilbert Godfrey had that great bit where they're trying to get Ned Beatty out of the trailer to shoot the scene. Ned, Ned, we're ready on set. Ned. So anyway, if you don't know the movie, look it up kids. It's great. John Borman, I think from that, and it was from a, from a, from a James Dickey. The book is great. Um, remember that name, Lewis. Lewis. Yeah. Yeah. And of course, Burt Reynolds in that was so awesome. Yeah. Remember what you were saying about coming home and it being hard work? Because I do remember, you know, John Boyt reading that he spent a lot of time with, excuse me, a lot of time with Vietnam vets and that great speech he gives to the high school.

1:17:33I think a lot of that he kind of made up and it was kind of unscripted. scripted and that's that's another one of those hal ashby classics like you mentioned ones you can watch over and over like the last detail and yeah um but yeah i don't i don't mean to keep no i i don't i don't mean to keep you guys i i feel like bill moore i could talk to you guys i got a dinner that's when david david says i have a lunch actually down at craig's i can't be at craig's craig's doesn't open till five you gotta i gotta get there and get in line just so

1:18:09Dana Carvey:make your public the publicity department happy this is the longest we've ever done when does hawk come out and on what platform just just make uh hawk comes out july 16th on netflix and it's uh and it's uh 10 episodes and it stars will ferrell and molly shannon fortune fortune fortune who's great and uh she's awesome and jimmy is in it he's incredible chris parnell that's uh that's what i was gonna say chris parnell's in it um but yeah it's it's it actually it's it's very funny and will is great and i know you guys are fans of his so oh yeah he's people definitely get a kick out of it but i really appreciate you guys i really appreciate you guys taking the time because the show is great and i i mean like i was saying i i i love it when when it's just you guys talking sometimes even more than than a guest although uh there was there was one time when when uh i just remember tuning in and dana said dana said to david you you got pink eye motherfucker and i was like this is why i feel like it's it's it's not just about hollywood and snl it's like hanging out with friends when you were you know in high school or age well we do forget that we're kind of and kind of this is the new broadcasting that we're actually sort of on new television so you got pink eye motherfucker i'm gonna make a t-shirt out of that yeah i do good i do remember that david never gets defensive it's like ping pong anything i throw at david he just millisecond he goes right back right back at it it's always funny to hear dana say something we just keep going thank you though that's very nice you made my you made you made my day really i clint eastwood in that movie because you're an actually listen to this and actually kind of like it so we have we don't get a lot of feedback so that's very nice i i i i i don't miss him i really don't miss an episode so so thank you guys and you're a good dude and you'll see you look like richard gear when you see you turn to the side i'm telling you dan and we'll figure it out one day but um it's a compliment
