The Federal Reserve cracked the market in 1971 when they went off the gold standard, and America's central bank has now finished the job by breaking the market in 2008-2009 with the undisciplined use of quantitative easing. Prolonged bear markets have been outlawed, and anyone saving in dollars is punished every single year with 5 % or more debasement of their economic value. It's not exactly a rosy picture for millions of Americans. But this trend of debasement has slowly convinced more citizens to take their money and allocate it towards the public equities as a percentage of their portfolio.
1:01Mike Zaccardi highlights a recent JP Morgan data that shows U.S. household stock ownership as a percentage of total assets. It's now at an all-time high. Congratulations to all of you. As we close in on 30 % in that metric, it's important to remember that only 62 % of Americans actually do own stocks according to Perplexity. This includes ownership of individual stocks as well as stocks that are held indirectly through mutual funds, 401k plans, IRAs, and other retirement accounts. Now here's a breakdown of who actually owns these stocks. 87 % of adults and households earning$100 ,000 or more, but only 28 % of households that earn less than$50 ,000 actually own stocks.
1:39By education level, 84 % of college graduates, 42 % of high school education or less own stocks, pretty big difference. And then by race and ethnicity, 70 % of white adults, 53 % of black adults, and only 38 % of Hispanic adults. And then by marital status, 77 % of married adults own stocks compared to only 49 % of unmarried adults. Now we know that stock ownership and broadly asset ownership is a major driver of wealth in this country, but more than 30 % of Americans don't have any stocks in their portfolio. So we're seeing a big push from the private sector to improve that situation and ensure that more Americans have exposure to the U.S.
2:16economy through the stock market. It's a good idea. The initiative is called Invest America, And the idea is to have every newborn receive$1 ,000 in a special account that gives them exposure to the U.S. stock market. The concept calls for the child to hold that money until they are at least 18 years old, which would let compounding work in their favor and deliver economic value to a young adult thanks to the U.S. government setting them up in a good position at birth. Finally, the government doing something good. Now, here's Invest America founder Brad Gerstner talking about the program at the White House yesterday.
2:46Take a listen. And I know what it felt like that first time you had a little skin in the game where you thought you had a shot. You went from nothing to something. And like Dara said, that is the great story of America. The promise that there's mobility, the promise we can move up that ladder. But today, you know, we've moved to a society of dependency. Right I saw somebody answer the White House's tweet on this today by saying the answer to socialism is more capitalism This is more capitalism This is aligning every child in America with the upside of free markets and the benefits and that is your main street agenda Mr.
3:32President it makes America an ownership society again because all of those kids will see the benefit of compounding If you start with a thousand bucks and seven hundred and fifty dollars is added a year by parents, grandparents, by churches, by the companies in this room who will all contribute to the accounts of the kids of their employees by the great philanthropists in America. I think seven hundred and fifty dollars is a low estimate per year. I think so. But if you start, if you do that, by age 18, Mr. President, these are worth$50 ,000. By age 30, they're worth$175 ,000. And if you do it every year of your life, at age 50, they're worth a million bucks.
4:16The idea of Invest America is very popular for obvious reasons. Comedian Andrew Schultz shared yesterday that he didn't buy a stock until he was 35. He claims he was financially illiterate, and still is. And it seemed too risky. But let's get as many Americans as we can invested in the success of American industry early. I agree. And here's Andrew talking about Invest America a few months ago. Regardless if the concept is good or not, the emotional connectivity to the success of American industry is really important. When you know at 22 that you could get this thing that's been compounding for 22 years, you could pay off some college loans, you could put something down on a house, you could pay for trade school, whatever it is.
4:53I think you have a different energy towards America and its success. And then you have a lot less of these kids who are just like, America's this horrible place and capitalism is bad. Yeah, capitalism is bad when you're left behind. When you're invested in capitalism, it's great, baby. Now I would love to see Invest America become the law of the land. Give every newborn child a thousand dollar exposure to capitalism. And let's ensure we have the system working for our people rather than against them. The Federal Reserve and the politicians, they are never going to stop printing money. So let's not operate under some charade.
5:22Get the kids exposure to the 500 best American companies, and they will be very thankful to us a few decades from now. The new SEC chief, Paul Atkins, he seems to love Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. He gave a speech yesterday, and in it, he talks about the importance of self-custody for anyone holding Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Take a listen to what Atkins had to say here. Another core feature of blockchain technology is the ability of individuals to have self-custody of crypto assets in a personal digital wallet. The right to have self-custody of one's private property is a foundational American value that should not disappear when one logs onto the Internet.
6:01I'm in favor of affording greater flexibility to market participants to self-custody crypto assets, especially where intermediation imposes unnecessary transaction costs or restricts the ability to engage in staking and other on-chain activities. It's pretty cool to see the SEC, who historically was pretty abrasive and hostile towards this industry, now being supportive and trying to defend the rights of American citizens. Caitlin Long came out yesterday after seeing that clip, and she said, and with this, the SEC officially begins reversing decades of attempts to eradicate bearer assets from the U.S.
6:38financial system. It began with the UCC Article 8 in 1994, and it reached its peak under the Biden-war war on cash. Self-custody of private property is foundational to America. Now, I agree with Caitlin, and I agree that it is awesome to see the new SEC chief being such a staunch supporter of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. It's great to hear the talk, but now we need to see it put into action. And I actually have a lot of confidence that this SEC is going to deliver for Bitcoiners and cryptocurrency holders all across the world. It feels like every day someone is creating a brand new robot that's going to change the world.
7:12And of course, now we have a Paris-based firm that develops exoskeleton products. They just revealed Calvin. It's a robot that they claim to have built in only 40 days. But the best part is Calvin doesn't have a head. He literally is a robot with no head. Take a look at this thing.
7:47Now it's kind of weird looking at a robot with no head, but it seems to be able to do what everyone else can do. It's voice operated, self-balances, and has dexterous hands. But here's the thing about these robots. It's obvious that these robots are going to do every single thing in our life. You're gonna see robots on wheels. You're gonna see robots with suction cups and grippers. And you're also gonna see robots in your home and at work. They're coming fast and furious. There's gonna be tens of billions of them. And they're gonna take all different shapes and sizes. In Miami, I've seen little boxes driving down the street, almost like self-driving cars on the sidewalk.
8:16They're delivering food. We've obviously seen things like what Tesla's building and of course, everything in between. Robots are coming and seeing them in different form factors is all part of the experience. Some will have no heads. Some will have no hands. Some will have no feet. And of course, some of them aren't going to look like humans at all. There's humanoids, there's robotics, there's artificial intelligence, and there's machine learning. Technologists are going to assault every part of our world and try to automate anything that they possibly can. And so seeing the innovation happen is an important part.
8:45I have no clue if this one was actually built in 40 days or not. But what I do know is seeing the headless robot just tells me that we're continuing to innovate. And my guess is that humans, they're going to be the big winners in this entire robot revolution. That's it for today's show. Hope you guys are enjoying this.
