Between now and January 1st, we are going to do the award show, the critically acclaimed award show, Fronties and the Backies. Two separate shows. Yeah, two separate shows this year. Because if you remember last year, there was a musical number in the middle between them, which could have signaled the end of the show. Oh, you think that people just gave up after halfway through the show? It's quite possible. I realized the flawed system that we had the flawed editing that I did I stand by it apologize to no one yeah absolutely I'm going to apologize to absolutely fucking no one I stand by it and this year we're going to do two separate shows we're going to get a little freaky with it maybe we'll see now I'm excited for the new listeners who don't know what the fronties and the backies are the fronties are the best of the year the backies of the worst of the year.
1:01Simple as that. We cover all the stories that we've talked about, maybe some things we didn't, and give out some awards. Yeah, so if you have any nominations or any thoughts, anything you'd like to see covered again, we'll slide into our DMs. Is that the best way to submit, is to slide into our DMs? Yeah. What are they going to email me? I'm not going to read it. I guess so. Instagram at front.center. We'll put out some correspondence. forums or what a forum i don't know you know those things on your story where it's like ask me anything oh form forum no i said forum forum without a you you said like the the forum like no i said forum okay yeah forum i think i think i would can like a forum is like a back and forth right like we put something out to be like hey submit what you want to see on the front of the backies yeah but you fill out a form i fill out a form it could be both i guess yeah well we're Recruiting a forum for a form to submit.
2:01Forum instead of a form? Form follows function. I don't know. Just let us know what you want to see. That's right. And give us some nominations and stuff. Do our jobs for us. Thank you. Yeah, make our jobs easier. We're tired.
2:18Three, two, one. Kevin. What's up? Sick. Throat goat. Sinus infection. It's okay. Yeah. I'm not going to let it stop me from skiing. You're a warrior. Yeah. Sports are dead. Yeah, sports are dead. I don't even want to talk about them. No, I'm just... You're just excited about skiing. My quarterback is done for the season, so I am resuming my career as the world's worst gambler. Yeah. I lose so many$5 bets. It's insane. Oh, yeah, dude. I went six to seven on a parlay and needed the over on Monday night to hit. It's fucking raining. You know what? a design and branding podcast, I think sometimes I'm like, man, a lot of people don't care about sports, right?
3:05When we start the show, we start talking about our favorite teams or games that are happening. What they really don't care about is your sports gambling. I don't know. Everyone I know who listens to the show enjoys when I talk about my sports gambling addiction. Yeah. Well, I'm glad that you're only putting$5 bets out there, but you're losing them all. Be careful out there. Gamble responsibly. even if you're gambling$5 bets those things will add up. If you do 5 million of them. Make sure you're at least hitting plus thousands on your parlays. Because they'll never hit. That's right. But when they almost hit it's almost as good as them hitting.
3:41Combine a million things that are never going to happen together and one day you'll hit it and you can post it online. It was a very logical and smart parlay. If it didn't rain on Monday night I think I probably would have hit. Yeah. Kelsey and Swift and - If the Chiefs receivers weren't fucking dog shit. Okay. Listen, it's a hard, it's raining. They're running hard in the lights. Come on. That's a hard catch. Give them some - Bull, boo-hoo. Oh, it's eight got up in the lights. The ball's too perfectly in my hands and I get when I'm running fast, I can't catch it. Kevin, we got to get into the show because it's our Thanksgiving bonanza.
4:23Yeah. Happy Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving. Gobble, gobble. I have a couple things. I feel like saying happy Thanksgiving is a little weird. You say gobble, gobble. No, but you don't say gobble, gobble in a professional sense. If I'm writing an email, I'm like, hey, gobble, gobble, happy Thanksgiving. That's a you problem. Happy Thanksgiving? Say gobble, gobble. I feel like those words don't go together, though. You say gobble, gobble. I don't know. I need another way to say Thanksgiving. It's not merry. Is it happy Thanksgiving? I guess it is. It's gobble, gobble. It's the customary thing. Well, I guess - If you feel like you don't have the swag to say gobble gobble on an email, you should reevaluate.
4:59I'm a grown man. I can't be saying gobble gobble in my email. What do you mean to say? Oh, happy Thanksgiving. Yeah, yeah. I hope you're gearing up for some turkey. Yeah. I mean, listen, our listeners right now are driving to their parents' homes. They're maybe on a flight thinking about turkey, and we got you. Yeah. Thanksgiving stories coming your way on this episode. Yeah, coming at the end. We've got other stories. So I have some beef with Thanksgiving. I have some hot takes about Thanksgiving. First one, why are Thanksgiving and Christmas so goddamn close to each other, right? We need to spread these things out.
5:32These are essentially the two biggest holidays of the year, right? Yeah. And two holidays when you eat pretty similar meals, right? You hang out with your family and watch football and drink alcohol, right? They're basically the same thing. Why are they within 30 days of each other? I feel like we need to - Why are you complaining? No, I'm just saying Thanksgiving is exciting, but I'm also thinking about the next one coming next month. If Thanksgiving was in March or something, you know what I mean? Like April or something. And then what, are we going to watch fucking basketball? I mean, that's true.
6:04You bring up a good point. I love basketball. Yeah, but I just think these two holidays, they're so similar. And I need time off at different times of the year. We need to kind of push these things away from each other. Yeah. You eat turkey and watch football. Yeah. Christmas, you eat ham and watch basketball. I know. Come on. But they're too close. Or eat something else. I don't know. They're too close. Some big-ass roast. They're too close. They're too close. Luckily, my family is really close to New York. They live here, right? So it's like for me to go there and see them, it's not that big of a deal.
6:36But for you and other people that need to fly, like you're going to go to Cincinnati for Thanksgiving, then come back and then go to Cincinnati again for Christmas? Yeah. It's insane. I don't know. I mean, it's not that big of a deal. Okay, fine. There's no Thanksgiving songs. there's like 300 songs for Christmas and New Year there's definitely a Thanksgiving song what's a Thanksgiving song? that Meg the Stallion song where she says gobble me swallow me drip drop inside of me or something yeah yeah that's about eating turkey and dipping in the pan drippings yeah yeah so those are my takes on Thanksgiving but yeah we're excited we're excited about the the upcoming day three days off Yeah, I would never complain about days off.
7:20No, I love days off. That's the point. I just want them to be a little bit spaced out. Eh. Eh. Kevin, you listened to Andre 3000's new album? I did. I loved it. New Blue Sun. Did you? In stores now. I have not. In stores. In stores. What year is it? 2004? Go to your local record store and pick up Andre 3000's. I mean, that's probably the best way to enjoy it. Yeah. Wind instruments. Oh, man. Everyone's talking about it. Breaking wind. Yeah. I mean, that's your guy. Did you listen? I didn't listen. You didn't listen? No, I'm saving it. You're saving it? Yeah, I don't know when. Probably, it sounds like a good put it on with your family while you're sort of like.
7:57Everyone knows you can only listen to it once. Oh, yeah, one time. That's it. That's it. Have you listened, Kevin? I've listened to it. Yeah, what do you think? I think probably once or twice. How is he on the flutes? I mean, he's nice. He's nice? Yeah. He's nice on these woodwinds? It's not bars, obviously. He's not laying down bars, but it's interesting music. and I listened to his GQ interview which is a fantastic listen I'll take any type of Andre 3000 content I can get. It's good to have him in the spotlight no matter what he's doing I also like that he said he didn't want to rap anymore because it feels inauthentic to rap as an older gentleman.
8:33Yeah, you should watch the GQ interview it was really good. He was like, what am I going to rap about getting a colonoscopy? Yeah, I mean I kind of respect that. I mean it is a little weird like even when Jay-Z raps in sort of his later years. I think it's a similar thing. It's like, it's hard to a it's a hard sport to age in yeah so i respect it and uh i'm not like why is there no more rapping like i i think it's i think it's cool i mean anyone who calls anyone who's complaining about like nobody asked for this or like yeah why isn't he rapping like no you're get a life yeah grow up and like he's a grown man to think that three stacks would be beholden to your opinion or even give a shit like fuck out of here yes exactly what about him makes you think that that gives a shit about your opinion.
9:15Yeah, dude's just like, I mean, you see the videos. He just like walks around playing the flute. Yeah, living his life. Goddamn life. In the GQ interview, he's like, oh, I've really enjoyed this time out of the limelight. I've enjoyed my anonymity because I can go to the laundromat. And that's where they do a lot of the interview. Just washing his clothes. Dog, I don't know if you're going to have that anonymity anymore. Yeah, you think he's going to be pulling up to three stacks of clothing and he's going to have people there being like, look at this. I hope not. I feel like Andre 3000 is pretty recognizable.
9:46I don't know. But maybe not. Maybe he can sneak through and just kind of show up. Yeah, he rules, though. I'm glad he's back. Yeah, me too. I will definitely probably go see this live show. Oh, he's doing live woodwind shows. He is going to do live woodwind tours. Wow, that's pretty cool. He's going to do a tour. I like that. I think what's cool about his approach is he's kind of meandering and learning as he goes. Yeah, he did say that he was like, it's fun to listen to himself learn as he's recording this stuff, which I respect. Go off. That's sick. That's cool. You know his back, Kevin, also?
10:14Nathan Fielder, your guy. Another one of your guys. Big beat for your guys. Yeah. In some ways. Yeah. I mean, except for Joe Burrow, RIP. But yeah, new Showtime Paramount Plus show, The Curse, starring Nathan Fielder, Emma Stone, and Benny Safdie. This is extremely Kevin and Alex shit. Let's just start there. This is front and center approved television. You watched both episodes. I only watched the first one. Yeah. I mean, again, I can't get enough of Nathan Fielder. Yeah. I think he's brilliant. Yes. It's a tough watch. I will say that it's not an easy, uh, fun show. Yeah, for sure. I was cringing pretty hard in episode two.
10:51Uh, I had, I had to look away, um, which is pretty, pretty, not very typical for me because I love the cringe. Yeah. I get secondhand embarrassment. It's tough for me. So I, uh, yeah, I'm going to watch it, but it's definitely one of those shows where you're like, I'm not, I'm not, it doesn't have the click appeal. You know what I mean? It's like, Ooh, I got to watch. I don't want to watch. I don't know. They've been plugging the hell out of it on all sorts of ad campaigns and cable. It's a good duo, Emma and Nathan. It's fun to see them. It's a sick show. It's so good. And she's great. She's a national treasure.
11:23Couldn't recommend it more. Yeah. I will say, booting up the old Showtime. I guess Showtime's now part of Paramount+. Showtime is no longer a streaming service. Who could keep up with all this shit? No, it's not. Well, I have Paramount +, but I don't get the entire Showtime. package. I only get a certain amount of Showtime shows. Yeah, that's weird. I don't know what's on Showtime, but I will say this made me miss Deezus and Mero. It was the main reason I had Showtime the past few years. Did you just have it and let it roll? No, I canceled it. I canceled it. There's nothing on there for me. I'm not going to subscribe to something.
12:02I'm just throwing away money. So I resubscribed for the curse, but it made me miss the boys. you know I uh it makes me sad I went to the Nick game with my father we went to go see Wemby and uh Mellow and Mellow yeah in courtside do you know they have a show now they have a show yeah really yeah I know that I can't remember what it's called I think it's like interesting yeah I don't know look it up it's okay they just started like a I'm intrigued I mean it kind of sounds like a sick pairing yeah no I'm into it yeah Mellow and Mellow I mean it sounds good yeah uh I love that I love that I I would tune into that but you know maybe miss the good all days you know the boys and i was hoping they were going to be successful without each other you know but i don't i don't know it's early signs don't look great i mean i feel like but the marrow marrow show i'm gonna look this up arrow step i feel like he took maybe like he just like ducked out for a minute trying to you know get his yeah i mean dude's got a family okay it's a podcast digital series what's it called 7 p.m in brooklyn yeah i'm sure the same company that's behind Travis and Kelsey's show.
13:09Good for them. I mean, it does... Yeah, I'm intrigued by that. I don't know if I'm running to watch it, but I'm here for that. Good for them. I honestly root for them both. I truly want them to... I feel like at some point they'll get back together. I feel like they'll put whatever is between them together. Kevin, I just looked that up on my new MacBook Pro with the M3 chip with the space black sort of hardware, baby. Wow, Mac does that. Yeah, I finally gave up my 2018 MacBook Pro. Wow, sad. With the fucked up keyboard, but I had to finally say goodbye. It had a good run. You should have seen Alex's computer.
13:50It'd been through fucking war. I know. Like the command buttons got like a permanent like indent. Yeah. A lot of the buttons, a lot of the major like design buttons had that little finger. It's called hard work, dedication, hustle, grind. you know that's what happens to the keyboard but yeah shout out to apple hooked me up with the new computer they hooked it up for you yeah all i had to do was pay three thousand dollars um but yeah no it's a new it's a new day and a new dawn and i'm excited about it and i had to let go of my old baby did you soup it up i didn't really you know i'm not i don't need all that right now but uh it's a lot like uh snoop you know giving up a smoke you know it's me giving up my old uh laptop there how do you like that transition that's a good transition right there I know, I know.
14:32I'm a pro. I'm a podcasting pro, Kevin. Did you know that? Yeah. A professional podcaster. Last Thursday, Snoop Dogg shared an update that drove the world wild. Yeah. And he said, after much consideration and conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke. The post was on Instagram and said, please respect my privacy at this time. No, he had a three post. A three post? Yeah, he did three posts. He did, I'm giving up smoke. Yep. And then he did, please respect my privacy. Okay. And then he did one where he's just looking all fucked up and he said, natural high. Okay. I only saw the first one.
15:13I will say I did see the first one. And my initial reaction was, this is a brand new ownership. You got receipts? I 1 ,000%. You got any proof? It was in the wording. Because here's the thing. if he was quitting weed he wouldn't say give up smoke it just feels like a weird wording you got receipts though i don't have any receipts it's just in my brain you're gonna have to believe that i believe that i yeah i had my third eye was open and i i believed that this was fake i knew it was leading to something and maybe because my brain is broken because of this podcast and we know that everything is a bit and everything is promotion follow the money i mean well snoop dog is no stranger to a brand deal or partnership.
15:56Oh, no he is not. This man loves a branded partnership. All the respect in the world for Snoop, right? Living legend, rap icon, get your bags. But this man loves a brand deal. I actually looked it up, Kevin, to see how many brand deals he has. He's got multiple weed brands. He's got a weed technology social media site. He's got a production company. He's got a cereal called Brodus Cereals. He's got a wine. He sells pet food. And he's got a gin. Wow. Let this man cook. Yeah. And great names for these dudes getting bagged up. Yeah. He's got a venture capital company called Casa Verde. He's got Leafs by Snoop.
16:32He's got Snoopadelic films. Indigo in in dog go is the wine. Whoever's doing the naming over there. Shout out to them. It's probably Snoop himself. Yeah, dude. Lyricist. Yeah. Respect. All the in the world. But yeah, so the internet kind of went wild a little bit or it got sort of, it worked, this stunt, which was trying to convince people that Snoop was giving up weed for good and that you should respect his privacy. I like that he also brought his family into it. I had a conversation with my family. And then, yeah, just a couple days later, it was revealed there was actually an ad for Solo Stove, which is apparently a smokeless stove company and they were introducing the snoop stove which is a bonfire and comes with like a hat and some stickers and it's good for fire pits camp stoves pizza oven grills and all these things that you could do in the mountains um and uh without smoke no smoke and uh you know what snoop you got a lot of people yeah not me it was funny did you see the people like giving up smoke in solidarity oh no did people say yeah like if snoop's gonna give up i'm gonna give it up i mean meek mill came out and was like i'm giving up i'm giving up smoke too but it's because i mean he wasn't doing in solidarity he was like my doctor said i have like pre-emphysema so so this was a good way to get into the conversation yeah yeah but then like i don't know the comments were like yo snoop so sick like yeah yeah health and wellness baby good for you you know he's old Yeah, he's been smoking big-ass blunts for fucking 40 years, 50 years maybe.
18:1452 years old. 40 years, yeah. So, I don't know. The whole media storm thing is just so fucking stupid. And here we are, you know, storming, doing our shit. Here we go. I don't know. It's just people wanting to get into the conversation when you're... It works. Yeah. It works. It works. You know, people fall for this stuff. We're talking about it. It got a lot of press. No one was going to be talking about these smokeless stoves. So bring in Snoop and shout out to the Martin Agency. This is apparently what advertising is these days. And good for them. It did work. And I will say one thing that I know about brands, Kevin.
18:56A brand is nothing but a promise. Wow. I will say that. And if you fuck around and start breaking people's trust, Snoop, for some stove brands. Everyone knows that what brands say is 100 % true all the time, and they 100 % always live up to the promises that they make. They've never, ever, ever lied or done anything to invalidate the promise. Yeah. I want to say he can't do this again, but I feel like he could do this again. I feel like in three years, we'll all forget about this. Yeah, 100%. I'm giving up weed, and then it'll be like, I'm going to edibles. And it's just like - I'm giving up weed, and then it'll be for Roundup.
19:29Exactly. It'll be for some weed whacker. I'm giving up weed, and that's why I'm using Roundup D5200 weed spray. I mean, listen, Snoop, get those bags. He's a living legend and an icon, and he's not afraid of a brand partnership. He's collecting those checks, and I get it. But I'm saying don't tarnish the personal brand equity. That's what I'm saying. Do a million brand deals, but when you start talking and trying to switch people up or getting them confused about you as a person, I'm just saying, don't go run to that well too many times. You got to be careful about that. I'm cutting out grass with my new Toro lawnmower.
20:09Exactly. Kevin, do you see LaMelo Ball has to cover up his tattoo because it's violating rules regarding displaying of logos. It's got to be the dumbest rule ever. Yep, from the NBA. They made LeBron cover up his tattoos. I remember that. Yeah, like St. Vincent, St. Mary in Ohio. Oh, yeah, in high school. In a Catholic school. Yeah. So essentially the story is here is that Lomelo Ball has a brand called La Francaise. I thought it was La France. No, Kevin. It's La Francaise. And it is a clothing company lifestyle brand. And the logo is an L and an F in like a block letter type. And he has it right underneath his ear in sort of the back area.
20:53It's quite large. Yeah, in red. In red. and apparently per the collective bargaining agreement of the NBA, players are prohibited from displaying commercial logos or corporate insignia on their body or in their hair during games. They try to enforce the rule reasonably in accordance with its purpose and taking into account players' efforts to express themselves in a non-commercial manner. But LaMelo Ball's neck tattoo is an obvious violation of the rule and accordingly he required to cover it. Well, nobody said shit when Jalen Brown had the AT &T logo on his hair. His hairstyle. Yeah. I mean, this is so dumb.
21:29I mean, it's bringing so much more attention to this than anything else, right? I had no idea that LaMelo Ball had a lifestyle clothing brand called La Francaise. And now I just got my mom a balacabla for the holidays. What do you think that name means? Who knows? LaMelo Ball has one of the worst tastes in design. Do you see all the clothing? I looked through it. It looked fine. I don't know. It's so loud. It's so, I mean, it's, I guess, listen, it's not for me. I'm a grown man. Yeah. But it is, it looks like kids. It's for the Gen Z. Yeah. It's for a very young audience. Yeah. I don't know. I would expect this type of like CBA move from, you know, the NFL.
22:13Yeah. The no fun league. But for the NBA to be doing this, I don't know. It seems a little sus. I'm not, I'm not totally loving this. I think if somebody wants to get something on their body, they should be able to show it. If it's permanent forever, you should be able to show it. They got no problem with logos on jerseys, but you got to pay for that. Yeah. It's the logo on the neck. No, no, no. Yeah, we can put the Vistaprint logo on somebody's chest. Do you see what he was covering with during the game? It was like a fucking giant patch, too. It was like bright turquoise. It's crazy looking.
22:50Again, it's just bringing so much attention to this brand. And I would imagine this is the best thing that ever happened to La Française. Yeah, probably. Speaking of the best thing that ever happened to something, Stanley Cup. Oh, my God. Segway alert to fucking TikTok where Danny Marie Lettering posted a video on Wednesday that got people going because she was showing off her vehicles mostly charred interior from a Tuesday blaze. So I got a lot of questions here. Yeah. Why was this car on fire? Like first right off the bat, like showing off your car in embers. Like what is the fucking backstory?
23:29Because we're a Chevy. But like whatever, this car was, you know, it had gone through a crazy fire. And what she noticed was that her Stanley Cup, a bright orange Stanley Cup, was still sitting in the middle console and looked mostly unscathed by the fire. And believe it or not, Kevin, still had ice in it. Wow. Yeah. So she grabs it. She kind of shakes it around. You hear the ice. and she even put in the caption like if you're thirsty after you catch on a fire, Stanley is like is no problem and didn't take long for this video to catch on and this is obviously the best marketing in the world. Oh, yeah for a reusable sort of temperature controlled cup 100 % it literally was in a fire and it did not melt the ice Wow, that is fucking insane I mean shout out to Stanley for making a good product yeah uh that's pretty sweet yeah good for them yeah but i think the fire's a little fishy too yeah yeah kevin um 13 million views on this video wow and so stanley had no choice but to uh sort of uh react get into the mix shout out to them for for doing so and they uh posted their own tiktok video i don't even think they had like a tiktok account they just were like all right get this thing going and they said we've never done this before and we'll promise we'll never do it again um we're gonna replace the probably never do it again yeah the problem that's another car catches on fire and another stanley is there um yeah the president of stanley terrence riley said that he's gonna give her a car a new car replace the vehicle and thanked her for sharing the video and showing how durable stanley cups are quote i couldn't think of a better example of her products quality you're damn right you couldn't think of that is a endorsement unlike like any other.
25:18Yeah, your creative team probably thought of it. Kevin. The internet broke your brain. Yeah. No, for sure. I mean... You can't have joy anymore, Kevin. Yeah, I can't. No, it's the internet. I know, I know. You think this is fake? I mean... You're calling bullshit? The alarms are going off in my head. Yeah. I don't think they could ever prove it. I mean... I really want this to be real. I would love to open up a formal police investigation for arson on this car. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, that's one of my big questions. It's like, we're just totally sort of skipping over the part that her car was in the biggest fucking fire.
25:57We need a time on this. Yeah, what the fuck happened? One thing is your car's on the street, gets broken into, someone steals your fucking phone or something, your sort of console or speakers or something like that. That happens. But you just pull up to your car, it's fucking in embers? we need some more information. I'm sorry. We need to know what's going on here. That's some shady backstory. But I guess like, I want to believe that this is a real story. I want to believe that this is real and not a Stanley ad. Yeah. The Snoop Dogg thing is bullshit. Like that was very clearly ad guys behind that.
26:34I could tell that. This? Yeah. If this is an ad, Kevin, I'm going to be really sad. I mean, it is an ad. Everything's marketing. Every single fucking thing that can't be marketing. No, obviously now it's an ad. But I'm saying like if it was pre-planned and pre-determined and this is all bogus. I just hope we never find out. And I don't know. I guess I'm just a cynical hater when I'm saying that I think it's an inside job. But I don't think I actually believe that. No, Kevin, put it down on the record right now. It's an inside job. And if that comes to be true, like you said, I don't have the receipts for the Snoop Dogg thing.
27:09I said it was – I felt like a brand promotion. also you know snoop is the the biggest brand promoter in the world but like this i mean listen kevin call right now call your shot this this may not be real i believe that it is authentic yeah i mean it's cool it's good that she's getting a new car out of it i i like that yeah um what you know what really goes through a person's mind when they're like i guess car is been torched uh by what, how, who knows. You roll up to your car and it's like, wow, my car is completely torched. Time to get my phone out and make a TikTok. You're bringing up some good questions here, Kevin.
27:51You are. And I guess good for her for monetizing her misery. I appreciate that. TikTok's a crazy place. I mean, I guess it's not going to make anything worse to make a quick little vid of Hey, check out my car. It's burnt to a crisp. But my car check. Yeah, car check. My ice is still good. Yeah. Last night I fell into a TikTok wormhole of an account that just posts things that people leave in their Airbnb in Miami. Oh, wow. So they have like a party house that people rent out. And literally they come in on like a Monday after they have left that Airbnb. And they just basically say like they have lots of candy.
Read the full transcript
28:33They have lots. They left lots of eggs. They left sodas. They left what they left behind. Oh, candy, eggs, and sodas? No, like bread or Raising Cane's cups or whatever the fuck they are leaving behind. That's it? That's all they're leaving? Yeah, there was like a Louis Vuitton box, but there was nothing in it. So, yeah, it's not really that exciting. But to be honest, it's enthralling. You got to check it out. It's, again, it's right up there with the doctor and the chiropractor in Orange County who cracks backs that I like. You know? It's, you know. Okay. These are my TikTok sort of fetishes.
29:11Yeah, sure. This is what I'm into. Kevin, we've got to get into Thanksgiving. There's got to be a better way to say that. We've got to get into Thanksgiving, Kevin. We talked, you know, those are some big stories this week. But, like, the big story, Thanksgiving, it's here. Oh, hold up. Can't wait for a turn. Can we embrace debate real quick on the LinkedIn marketing influencers? Okay. The debate whether, what is the best marketing of the year? Is it the Snoop Dogg giving up smoke or the Stanley car fire? Kevin, this will have to be debated out on the fronties and the backies. We will pick this up on the fronties and backies.
29:47I'm going to make a note right now. Yeah, write it down, Kevin. This is a bit recency bias because it just happened. They both just happened. Yeah. But these are both good stories. And I'm sure there are other stories from February that we have long forgotten that we probably should also consider. Kevin, we've got to talk about Thanksgiving because it's that time of year. Gobble, gobble. Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate the best holiday of the year. It truly is. Weren't you just complaining about this at the beginning of the show? No, I was complaining that it's too close to Christmas and fucking Hanukkah or whatever, like end of year holidays.
30:21I want to spread it out. Yeah. I wanted to get more love. Like, it's the best holiday. And I feel like, you know, Christmas trees are going up on the streets. Like, we're just a little too tight. You know, these two holidays are just too close. I didn't say I didn't like it. I don't know. I just don't have a way to say to wish other people a happy Thanksgiving. I think we should have one major holiday every month. Yeah. Yeah, I agree with that. But, like, having the two biggest holidays of the year next to each other and also saying, like, Merry Christmas, Happy Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving. It's like, we need a new term.
30:54We need to move the date and we need a new - We'll say happy holidays. Yeah. We did this years ago, Alex. We already came up with this. Kevin, I'm just trying to bring Thanksgiving into a new decade. We're embracing debate. It's a new future. A new future? Yeah. Why does it need to be tied to fucking fall? I mean, it's kind of fall. Football. Yeah, I know. Okay, Kevin, what's your favorite part about Thanksgiving? not having to do shit and eating that's right and watching football that's right it's the cranberry uh sauce which oh it's the cranberry yeah of course and uh what's the the main brand in the can it's ocean spray and so uh you love to see ocean spray get in the mix here uh because this is their moment this is of all the brands uh that can really jump into the fray here on thanksgiving ocean sprays top top five here probably yeah probably on the mount rushmore of thanksgiving brands.
31:48Yes. And I look forward to Thanksgiving dinner. I'm actually starving. So the idea of stuffing and gravy, mashed potatoes, I'm not a big pumpkin pie guy, but listen, on Thanksgiving, all is welcome. But they did a survey, Ocean Spray did a survey of 2 ,000 Americans, which to be honest, doesn't feel like enough people. No, pretty light. Yeah. 83 % of respondents said they believe it's not even Thanksgiving without cranberry sauce. however it's not even thanksgiving without ocean spray cranberry sauce oh yeah and they said in nearly 46 of the respondents said they are as quote as passionate about their cranberry sauce preparation as their favorite sports team that's fucking cap if you're if you are passionate as passionate about cranberry sauce as you are sports it's a sad life yeah get a get a life yeah they also so dedicated that 20 of quote team homemade and 15 % of quote team can say they'd be willing to get a tattoo in honor of their cranberry sauce choice.
32:52This study is all over the place. What study is this? Um, yeah, I don't, I don't get the, do you think they actually did a study or do you think they are just saying this? Well, they got one more for you. 28 % of cranberry fans considered a red flag. If someone doesn't like their preference for cranberry sauce for dating, what is, what is this? Like we trying trying to find like lovers like yeah this was confusing there was some sort of like okay cupid tie-in here too like what the fuck yeah ocean spray pointed to the recent in-app matching questions on okay cupid which revealed some interesting stats on the canvas homemade cranberry debate question showed that those who prefer homemade cranberry sauce get 18 percent more likes than those who don't and 12 percent more in conversations well you know it's about putting the effort in and making something from scratch rather than just taking the easy way and buy it a goddamn can yeah this is this is so confusing so um to make it even more confusing they are releasing merch which uh gotta say goes a little bit too hard they did not need to go so goddamn hard with the fucking uh cranberry sauce uh merchandise they have t-shirts that look like they're from uh pen and pixel which is the famous uh 90s and 2000s uh mixtape artist uh duo honestly these shirts go fucking real hard kevin i could see you rocking one of these yeah i mean i'm not super passionate about cranberry sauce i was gonna come in here and uh just take the opposition to your stance on whatever you said uh canned is my stance you know my plan was to probably come in here and ride for homemade because everything's better homemade but that's i do think uh i haven't personally homemade had or made homemade cranberry sauce i i do prefer the taste, but I have heard that the effort is not worth the reward on this one, on this particular one.
34:45I mean, cranberry sauce is great. I love cranberry sauce. Don't get me wrong. Give me like a Friday leftover sandwich with like cranberry sauce, stuffing, a little bit of gravy and turkey. That shit bangs. Yeah. Yeah. The leftover sandwich, we can all agree, is better than the main meal. That's without a doubt. I don't know. It depends. I think anyone who shits on Thanksgiving for not being good food, you got to look at who's cooking your food. If you're having bad Thanksgiving meals, you should step up and cook. Step up and take the ranch yourself. Go off. Because if you got somebody who's worth a damn in the kitchen, they can throw it down on Thanksgiving.
35:23And it can be a great meal. Even turkey can be moist. If you do it correctly, and there are plenty of recipes. I believe Kenji's got a good turkey recipe out there. if you do that one i've had it two years in a row now my friends have made it and it's been phenomenal it's been moist they spatchcocked the bird like it's been great they did a great job and if you're sitting at home complaining about how shitty your thanksgiving food is that's because you got somebody in the kitchen who's not chefing it up kevin just said pull out a mirror it's you yeah you're the problem yeah you're the problem make your or or your or your Or whoever's cooking.
36:01Or your friends. Whoever's cooking, maybe it's time for you to say, move aside. Move aside, old man. Let me ball. Let me cook. Yeah. I mean, listen, I'm not going to dot, ride, or die for a Thanksgiving meal. I have some beef with it, but you're right, Kevin. It's down to who's making it. Over the past couple of years, I've had some restaurant-prepared Thanksgiving dinners, which is a new thing for me in my later years of life, I was shocked by how good the stuffing and the turkey and the quality could be. So, yeah, look in the mirror. It's you. Get those boomers out of the kitchen. Turn on some fucking YouTube videos of how to cook Thanksgiving meals and just do whatever they say.
36:50Get it going and make a banging Thanksgiving meal. Stop complaining. Or you can get DiGiorno's new Thanksgiving pizza with all the fixings. DiGiorno, this story comes from food and wine. DiGiorno, the sort of frozen pizza company, has done a survey of their own, Kevin. And according to this survey conducted by an online financial company, undisclosed, one third of Gen Zers said that they would serve pizza at their casual Friendsgiving celebration and those pies were significantly more popular than Thanksgiving turkey only 24 % of respondents said they'd be passing out plates of that ultra traditional bird what the fuck is going on Gen Z?
37:41All the Gen Z people probably eating impossible turkey Kevin? Speak for your whole generation. Defend your people. I'm not Gen Z. I'm not a millennial. I'm just a guy. I'm just a fucking guy. You're just a guy. Just a guy who is on a podcast or something. That's right. I don't know. That's crazy. That's crazy. That's crazy stat. But I also, you know, again, what's with all these fucking stats? So DiGiorno. Yeah, who's making all these fucking stats? Yeah, who's this unknown research companies? So DiGiorno, to take advantage of this data, they've decided to launch a Thanksgiving pizza, which takes a thick Detroit-style crust and piles it high with turkey, rich gravy, diced sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberries, two kinds of cheese.
38:32What type of cheese? And a crispy onion topping. The result is a full Thanksgiving meal pizza style. Yeah. You can miss me with this. This gets zero gobbles in the ranking system that I just made up that maybe we used last year. Yeah. I don't know. I'm not here for this, but I guess if you're Gen Z, all they know how to do is eat hot chip and lie. If you're going to a Friendsgiving, if you show up to my Friendsgiving with the DiGiorno Thanksgiving pizza, you're not coming in. Yeah. Gen Z doesn't want to do the work of making a turkey. Friendsgiving with pizza? That is nonsense. That's crazy. That's fucking crazy.
39:16If you show up to a Friendsgiving and they ask you if you want pepperoni or mushroom, you got to walk right away. You just turn around and go home. That's not a Friends. That's not a friend. That's a pizza party. That's a pizza party. At least, at the very least, if you're having a Friendsgiving and you don't want to make turkey, you can either just do something that you make. Get a rotisserie chicken. Get a rotisserie chicken. Yeah. Or, here's an idea, just make something else. Just actually physically make something. But I think that's the problem. I don't think you need to have a turkey or a bird.
39:45Or another play, order Boston Market. Get cornbread, Boston Market. Get KFC, order fried chicken and mac and cheese. Get Peruvian chicken, call P.O.P.O. and get some green sauce. some fucking Maduro's fucking delicious pizza on Thanksgiving you out of your goddamn minds you out of your fucking minds I don't know I mean shout out to anyone who even eats this pizza's the best we can all agree not DiGiorno even worse you're getting DiGiorno pizza oh my god sad state of affairs for whoever honestly I feel bad for anyone who's eating this Yeah, me too. This is the saddest thing. Yeah, this is like up there.
40:33This is worse. This would be like a this should be like a Hungry Man collab. Like this should be like DiGiorno X Hungry Man. And it should be like, you know, sad Thanksgiving. So sad. Even sadder is poor Kimberly Hollowayak, who is the senior brand manager for DiGiorno, who had to defend this. She said, quote, from Thanksgiving parties to Turkey Day tables, we're thrilled to provide a bold new way to appreciate the traditional Thanksgiving spread. Quote, our passion is pizza. We're always looking for unique ways to infuse the fresh baked taste of DiGiorno into moments of celebration, even the most traditional holiday dinners.
41:11Fuck out of here, DiGiorno. You know what I hear in that? Regret. Yeah. You know, shame for trying to fucking tarnish a great American holiday with your shitty fucking, you know, stove pizzas. Yeah. Oven pizzas. No need. No need for this. Stay away, DiGiorno. Stay in your lane, DiGiorno. Stay in your lane. With that said, I would try it. It looks pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. The photo is, it will never look like that. But the photo with the styling and all the sort of perfectly placed toppings on top of this Detroit style pizza. I'm sure if you were to make. I would give it a try. I'm sure if you were to make your own version of this, and if you had a fresh pizza dough, and you did a little leftovers, go.
41:54Yeah, go walk. Sure, it would be great. Maybe cranberry sauce is the sauce. Maybe we spread the cranberry sauce and throw a little cheese on top of it. It has cranberries on it, which is a bit of a weird thing. I mean, it's a savory, sweet pizza. I mean, listen, I would try this thing, but it's fucking weird. But not for Friendsgiving. That's my beef. it's like you can tell this as be like oh it's a fun little thing to bring switch it up people try it it's weird trying to pull off this data saying that Gen Zers are not cooking turkeys because they're too lazy and then trying to say that this is an alternative I know we love talking on Gen Z here but I think DiGiorno did them dirty with this stat I think that Gen Zers could probably make a turkey if they really They wanted to.
42:45Yeah. They got to look it up on TikTok first. Yeah. They probably would do it better than their parents. Yeah. Yeah. They got to stop dancing and take out their phones for a second and actually cook something. Kevin, moving on to a brand who I do support in their Thanksgiving sort of activities, Baskin Robbins. So Baskin Robbins ice cream, you know, sort of an iconic ice cream brand. I'm not, you know, not really. I don't think I've ever had it. Yeah, not really in my top, you know, sort of ice creams. But listen, I got to give them respect because they have not one but two different Thanksgiving ideas here, which I think both look pretty good.
43:32So the first one is a flavor. It's called Turkey Day Fixins and is a creamy combination of autumn spice and sweet potato ice cream with ocean spray cranberry sauce swirls, collab, and bite-sized pieces of honey cornbread. Wood. Wood. Yeah. The photo looks particularly tasty. Oh, yeah. Because I think it's got the nice little swirl cross section here. Yeah. They got a hell of a cross section for this photo. Sweet potato ice cream with bite-sized pieces of cornbread. Count me in. I'm in here for that. So, yeah. And I got a little quote here from Hannah Suits, who's the director of brand marketing.
44:09She says, we continue to push the boundaries of flavor innovation at Baskin-Robin and wanted to bring a unique scoop to the table that deliciously encapsulates all the sweet and savory flavors from your Thanksgiving sides. Alongside that, the return of the iconic turkey cake. These offerings are a delicious and innovative take on holiday favorites. So that is the second product that they're going on. The turkey cake. It is a turkey cake. It's making its triumphant annual return. Kevin, were you aware of the turkey cake? No. Me neither. But it is a dessert that looks like a turkey, but it's actually ice cream creation.
44:48Instagram worthy, they say. The cake can be fixed with any ice cream, but even maybe the turkey day one. You put the turkey day inside of the turkey, and then it's generously coated with caramel praline glaze, which makes it look like sort of turkey skin. And it also has drumsticks, which are made of sugar cones. Wow. They went all out. Yeah. It looks pretty cool. Now, this you can bring to a Friendsgiving. This would be a great thing to bring to a Friendsgiving. Yeah. Or even, honestly, a real-ass Thanksgiving. Yeah. This ascends. This plays. This plays. This plays, yeah. You got to order it soon because it takes up to 48 hours to create.
45:27Well, you missed the boat this year, but be on the lookout for next year. That's true. I'm here for these, both of these things. I think they both look delicious. Kevin, we talked about graters. Yeah, I think we talked about graters like the last episode, I think. Graters is the best ice cream. Yeah, show up to that with Thanksgiving. You want to really win your Thanksgiving? Yeah. Go to Get Graders from Wegmans, which is now available in New York City and Brooklyn. Shout out to Wegmans, the best grocery store on the fucking planet. I need to go to the New York City one. Yeah, me too. Apparently on Sundays, they butcher a big-ass tuna.
46:02And then they hand out some samples. Shout out to Wegmans. They've been delivering sandwiches to my apartment in Greenpoint. I've had a couple of them over the year or so. and this week they weren't delivering because there was some issue with DoorDash or whatever and we just called them up and were like, hey, we really want sandwiches and they made it happen because they got the fucking best customer service in the world. Shout out to Wegmans. Wow. Nothing better than that. Nice plug. Last story of the day, Kevin. Thanksgiving. One of our favorite stories from last year. Oh, yeah. This is my favorite story.
46:34I had to fight hard to get this one on the program. Yeah, this is it. This is it. Kevin's favorite story of the year, of the week, and of the holiday, which is, Kevin, I don't know if the people know, maybe some of our new listeners don't know this, that the day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for service plumbers. Yeah. We're calling it Brown Friday. And there's a company called Roto-Rooter. Cincinnati's own. Cincinnati's own Roto-Rooter, who is trying to bring attention to Brown Friday, not to be confused with Black Friday. And that's because of the sewage and wastewater backup that happens after people consume Thanksgiving.
47:16You got a lot going on that day. A lot of food. You got a lot of visitors, a lot of guests, a lot of stuff going down the drains at people's houses. Yes. And so this Roto-Rooter company, which is North America's largest provider of plumbing, repair and sewer and drain services. Since that, he stand up, baby. Shout out to them. They experienced a 50 % increase in call volume over an average Friday and a 21 % uptick in business over any other four, four day weekend period. Extra guests mean extra toilet flushes, showers, dishwasher, laundry loads, and garbage disposal usage. Simply put, Thanksgiving puts a heavy strain on the American plumbing system and it keeps our plumbers super busy the next day.
47:59So shout out to them for doing the Lord's work. and also for bringing awareness to Brown Friday, something that I have completely forgotten about since our last episode of recording last year, and I'm glad that they're back. Yeah. What are some things that you can do to mitigate the risk of Brown Friday? I'm so glad you asked, Kevin. One, never pour grease, turkey drippings, or cooking's oil down drains. They solidify in pipes like candle wax and choke drains. Yeah. You don't want to choke a drain. Yeah. No matter what the memes say, your drain cannot have a little bit of grease. Two, don't put potato peels, poultry skins, bones, rice, or pasta down the garbage disposal.
48:37Disposals can handle small quantities of scraps, but most food should go into the trash can or compost pile. Damn, they're talking about compost now? Yeah, dude, if I can save the planet. Let's go. Number three, make sure the garbage disposal is running when you add food scraps. Obvious there. number four don't flush wet wipes down toilets most want to dissolve and may clog the drain pipes and sewers even if they say they're flushable they're not they're right they're not number five place plungers in guest bathrooms to save guests the embarrassment of asking for one that's just good hosting yeah that's the most embarrassing yeah I don't know if you've ever I don't know if you've ever had to do the walk of shame when there's only one plunger in the house and you gotta you gotta you know gotta walk into the family room where everyone's gathering and uh you know you've you've already clogged the toilet at your aunt's house like three times in the past three times you've been there and you're starting to build a reputation for yourself as a toilet clogger and you gotta walk tail between your legs into the family room and uh ask them to get the plunger out of the basement and then everyone's looking at you and then you know when even when you plunge it it's not going down and then they have to get a they They pour hot water down the drain, and then they get a coat hanger.
49:56And then this lasts a full day. And then next thing you know, the bathroom's out of service, and there's only two bathrooms in the house. Yeah, they're on the same floor. They're on the same floor. Kind of close to the kitchen. Yeah. And the next thing you know, there's a plumber there. Very embarrassing. Yeah. Spoken from some sort of experience there, some sort of trauma, Kevin. And the last one, spread out showers and laundry loads so pipes have time to drain. Yeah. It's not something I was aware of. So, Kevin, PSA to all the turkey eaters out there. Be ready. Take care of your drains. Yeah.
50:33Kevin, I got some breaking news. Exciting. Breaking news. What's the breaking news? Comes from the dial-in. Comes from Rudy. Comes from the New York Post. Headline. Incredible. Ruckus Taco Bell Christmas party included three-way sex romps, vomiting, and guacamole ball lawsuit. Wow. Shout out to the New York Post. Always has the best headlines. Say what you will about their ethics and their journalism. Yeah, their morals. Those headlines. Those headlines are fucking sweet. Wow. What kind of early Christmas party is happening at Taco Bell in Los Angeles turned into an alcohol-fueled debauchery? So this was for staffers.
51:16They were encouraged to bring food in a potluck-style buffet to their restaurant. So this is workers and people that are sort of staffers of the Taco Bell. Yeah, so co-worker party gone wild. It sounds fucking lit. I wish I was there. This does sound like a pretty wild party, which is another reminder, another PSA. Don't be the drunkest person at the holiday party. You don't want to be that person. You want to have a couple drinks. I don't know, unless you can handle it. Talk about another walk of shame, Kevin. You don't want to be the guy. I'm him. I can handle that. I can handle the responsibility.
51:51I carry it well. Yeah, yeah. Oof, oof. No, that's early 20s. That's early 20s, Kevin, talking. Yeah, there's some incidents that the Los Angeles Police Department had to get. There's some wild things I can't say on the air here. But just now that there were some actual consequential and incidental financial losses and constructive termination violated anti-discrimination laws. Yeah, there's some things that we're not going to repeat here. But yeah, PSA, don't get too drunk at your holiday Christmas party. Take care of your drains and tell your family you love them. Enjoy Thanksgiving, everyone.
52:37Enjoy your family. And we'll be back on the other side to celebrate the end of the year. The fronties, the backies. We have a guest episode with Alan Peters. Incredible interview. Tells an amazing story at the end. Yeah, you're going to have to wait a little bit for that one. Yeah, make sure you get to the end of that episode. And thank you to all the listeners. We appreciate you. And thank you. Yeah, that's what I'm thankful for, the listeners. Thank you. Gobble, gobble, bitch.
53:45Head integral to hilarious and Hats hang out with the video. You made it! You made it!
