0:00I mean, if you want to extend like a Saturday or whatever. I'm not going to. I love this podcast more than I love most other things. My weekend is not included in that list. Sorry. Wow, look at you. I know, I know, I know. I hate to say it. Work-life balance. Kevin, ever heard of it? Wow. Look at you, Alex. Weekends are sacred for me. I'm sorry. I have an active social life. I was just saying, if you feel that's necessary. I appreciate that. I said I would be open to it. Listen, Kevin, you are - Anything for a banked episode. I love banked episodes. You are. That is true. You love banking. I know.

0:38And I also love the guest episodes. No shade to us right here, right now. No, I get it. I get it. I get what you're saying. The guest episodes are nice. Yeah, I like our one-on-one banter. Yeah, I'm all right. I like this. I don't know. Been there, done that. I like this week's episode, though. Yeah, I mean, it's my favorite episode. I agree with you that the guest episodes, we should try to avoid too much of you and I yeah yeah as the rift grows I will as our beef becomes more public yeah not many people know but Alex and I can't even be in the same room yeah it's a Desus situation Desus was just on Paulo Torre finds out they were talking about gooning what Kevin sorry old 41 year old guy here real quick what's good you don't know what gooning is no don't make me feel bad you should google it no tell me what it is it's coming that's what it is yeah like uh aggressive style like you know you could be the the people are like how are they using it people have goon caves where they have like crazy setups of multiple monitors they like you know this is like a an obsession, uh, like where it takes, Oh, it takes away from your life.

1:58It's almost like a, it's maybe a bit of an addiction. Masturbating? No, gooning. It's different. Why is it different? Cause you're like, it's a way of life. If you're a gooner, it's like a way of life. Coming as a way of life? For some people. Yeah. It's like all they do. What do you mean? That's all that they do, but it feels like it's transcending the act. it's more than just a verb. It's a bit of an iceberg term. It's a lifestyle. Yeah. Because just black and white, tip of the iceberg, it means one thing. Nutting, the action of. Correct. And then the deeper iceberg is like, if you're a gooner, you're about that life.

2:42It's your life. Got it. Got it. Got it. You're all about gooning. yes yes okay thank you yeah that was really helpful for me words are getting complicated i'm hoping that that one makes the miriam webster list this year i have seen it used a bunch or at least uh you know a decent amount here and i have always it does make me feel old when i'm like oh god i don't really know exactly what that means but thank you for keep all that in by the way that's really good stuff

3:13three two one kevin thank you you are like a teacher there yeah i'm i'm happy to do it yeah now that i actually i might need to bring you in for the sva masters in branding uh course that i'm doing in the spring where uh yeah you might have to teach the kids you know we might have The kids already know. Maybe. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what the – Online correspondent Kevin Pettori comes in and does a little teaching, a little guest lecture. Yeah. I'm the right guy to come in and teach a college-level course on gooning. That's what I'm saying. I think I – I have my PhD in that. That's what I'm saying.

3:57As a teacher, I'm trying to bring in lots of perspectives from different places. And yeah, correspondent, Gunning correspondent, Ken Patori is here to teach a quick little seminar on Gunning. Yeah. I mean, whatever it takes, whatever you need me to do, Alex. Listen, I'm happy to teach the kids. As a professor, I've not yet taught any classes. Oh, you're in like the warmup loop. I did workshops and those are classes, but I want to make the best class of all time. you know i'm not are you doing like a full class yeah full semester in the spring yeah yeah that's nice they gave in march yeah is that spring i don't know i think it starts in march it goes march to april oh okay that's cool whatever the point is is i'm a i'm a teacher coming that's i haven't made this official announcement to the people it's nice they eased you into it a little bit they didn't just throw you into the deep end well they it was a test it was a bit of a trial balloon to see if I could do it.

4:56Well, that's good. The kids liked it. They met their teachers there at SVA. That's good. Well, yeah. Is this a class? Is this a professor at potential? And I passed the test, I guess. Good for you. Good for them. Yeah, sign up for SVA, Masters in Branding, and come take my class. What class are you going to teach? Branding from scratch. How to do brands from nothing. Very nice. Like all the amazing things we do here. Wow. Like a regular old Ina Garten. That's what they say. That's what I say. I'm the Enigarder of Gunning. Kevin, this is our Thanksgiving Day episode. So people are probably traveling to their homes right now.

5:35Yeah, or just staying in the city. Whatever you're doing today. I hope you're having a good time. Hope it's stress-free and easy breezy. I like to think that we're right now coming out of the speakers of like a Hyundai Sonata that someone is driving to their parents' house. Yeah, probably. That makes me feel really good. I like to think that we're the background noise of a Thanksgiving dinner. Wow, you think that's... Absolutely not. If you're playing front and center your Thanksgiving Day dinner, please send us a clip. But how about this? If you're in the car, I've actually never seen anyone listening to us in the car.

6:16I've not seen a visual. I've seen visuals of people playing YouTube in their homes. I've seen in our studio. I've seen cool shit. If you listen to our show, can you just show us? It's a weird thing to ask for, but show us you listening to the show and we will repost you on our Instagram, which is great. This is a public service announcement. If you tag our podcast in your story, 100 % repost. Guaranteed. Unless it's something horribly horrific unless you're that one lady who keeps spamming our account with all of the new bureau posts yes we will not repost who we we like but shout out to her shout out to her but no i don't know what she's i don't really know what she's doing i don't know what she's doing but yeah every every day she posts in texas and something related to tom holland not that if you tag us anything legitimately connected to our show we will repost it yeah you could even try to get one over on us maybe yeah put in your portfolio oh i love working on my portfolio tag us something weird and maybe Alex will repost it.

7:19We will repost it from our front center channel. Maybe Alex may or may not read it and repost something. Oh, I'll certainly know who you are. Yeah. That's a long way for Sammich to say thank you for our listeners. Oh, we're grateful. We are thankful for you guys. Thanks. Are you going back to Cincinnati this year? I'm not. Wow. I'm going up north. Oh, you're going skiing. Yeah. How has skiing impacted your time with your family? I don't think it really has. Do you have a sort of a chart of how many or I feel like you didn't go to Thanksgiving last year. No, I do the same thing every year. I go ski.

7:53I ski Thanksgiving. And then you do Christmas. The day before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving. And then my dad comes to town and we hang out. We're going to the Islanders game this year. Oh, nice. Yeah. So we're going to hang out on Friday. Long Island. And Saturday, we're going to watch some football. Wow. That sounds fun. Yeah. It's a nice time. I stay for the one-on-one time with my dad. No, that's beautiful. Yeah. It's nice. And he comes here. Yeah, he comes here. You get to show him around a little bit. He's the only one of my family who comes to visit. Well, I like - I mean, it's the easiest for him.

8:23It would be very difficult for a lot of the other people to - Where does he live? Can I ask that question? Yeah, he lives in Cincinnati. Okay. But he comes to Brooklyn for - Yeah, he does Thanksgiving at my stepmom's sister's in Scranton area. Okay. And then drives here Friday morning. Ah, beautiful. Yeah. Beautiful. That's great. Me and my dad used to do the same thing when my brother lived in New York. Ah. Yeah. Why Islanders? I don't know. We're just looking for stuff like guy shit to do. Guy shit. You know, there's like only a handful of things. You know, the Rangers also play hockey. They're not in town.

8:55Okay. So Islanders. Is he a hockey guy? Not really. Just a fun thing to do. Yeah, not a big NBA guy. Oh, okay. That's fair. Yeah. He's not huge into the NBA. Live hockey is electric. Yeah, I know. It should be fun. I'm excited. But I was thinking about maybe the Knicks game, but they're playing the Bucks and that's a bit of an expensive ticket. Yeah, no, the Knicks... I ain't trying to pay$200. But if anybody... It's a real shame. I haven't purchased tickets yet. And if anyone's got any... Hookups? Got a hookup, two tickets, to the Knicks-Bucks game on... For sure. Whatever that date is. It's the Friday after Thanksgiving.

9:33Let me know. I would gladly take my dad with the electric. We're just pining for tickets and all sorts of different things here. yeah i would let's just say i would be thankful yeah yeah no we're in a thankful mood i tickets for nick games have gone too crazy dude it sucks it really sucks i can't and i i think i complained about this in the last episode i can't watch them because i don't have the fucking package or whatever i don't have tv so it's like i gotta go to the game spend a million dollars or i gotta i don't know i don't i don't know what to do you got a spare computer line around what does that I mean, just like...

10:05Off mic, I can give you some sites to go to that are pretty reliable. Okay, send me some reliable. But yeah, this is Thanksgiving and we are thankful for you guys. I will say I'm kind of in the mood for Thanksgiving this year. I don't know why. Maybe it's all the running I've been doing or whatever it is. I feel like I'm ready to let it rip this year. Nice. Hell yeah. I'm in the mood just to eat a whole bunch of shit. Hell yeah. And home cooking. Are you going home? Yeah. My parents are, yeah, well, it's going to be a little bit smaller, but yeah. My mom is one of the great home cooks in America.

10:43Right on. I'm sure the spread's going to be banging. Spread will be there. Shout out to Joanie. I'm even in the mood for turkey. Yeah. Dude, I've been on a huge turkey kick. Really? Yeah. There's a turkey guy at the farmer's market. I've been buying a lot of turkey from him. There's a turkey guy at the farmer's market? Yeah, he's selling turkeys. Wow. So you've been eating turkeys on the regular? Yeah, turkey thighs, turkey breasts. Wow. I bought a bunch of turkey backs last weekend. I made a ton of turkey stock, which I'm going to have turkey soup this week. Wow. See, the reason I think I'm so excited about Thanksgiving is I probably have had turkey three times since last Thanksgiving.

11:19Yeah. I don't eat turkey at all. Turkey sandwich, of course, is my preferred method of eating turkey, which I don't even know if I consider that turkey. That's a different breed, I think. It's turkey breast. Yeah, but that sliced turkey, it's not the same as sort of - Not the same as carved turkey? Correct. Those two things, they taste very different to me. But you're talking about going to the farmer's market and getting a real bird. Well, parts of birds. I don't get the full bird. I'm excited about it. I'm excited. And a little bit of time off, end of the year. We're all a little fried. It's Friday here in the studio.

11:56I like this sweatshirt here. It's one of my oldest garments. Wow, oldest garments. I was going to say, it looks brand new. I got this in 2007 at the Nike outlet in Nashville, Tennessee. Yeah. It's got a bit of a Marty Supreme kind of energy to it. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. A little bit. They had a pop-up yesterday. They were selling those jackets that have been all over the internet. 250 bucks. Oh, fantastic. Yeah. Great deal. You have to wait in line for like eight hours and yeah, 250 bucks for a windbreaker. Sure. Whatever you say. Whatever you say. But this isn't the Marty Supreme episode. This is the Thanksgiving episode.

12:28So Kevin. The best episode of the year. Yeah. Best holiday of the year. Kevin has put together a laundry list of things that brands are doing to celebrate the holiday. We have gathered many stories. And so we'll talk about what people are doing. And oh, are we giving gobbles out this year? Yeah, sure. Sure. So the first story comes from Oreo. I think it should be a zero gobble, a one gobble, or two gobble. Okay. Yeah, that's it. Zero, one, and two. will remember this incredibly easy straightforward system for ranking these stories so the first one comes from oreo oreo has a thanksgiving dinner cookie bin so uh i was thinking about desserts for thanksgiving and i don't think outside of pie which i'm going to go on the record and say i'm not a really huge pie guy i don't know that thanksgiving has great desserts do you agree or disagree that sounds like a indictment on joni's uh thanksgiving spread here's what i'll say about my mother and she's a listener so i will tread lightly her best work she's not a big dessert person not that she doesn't eat it but she's that's not where she puts her energy and to be honest i i'm thankful for that because i'm not a huge dessert person i much prefer savory to sweet yeah 100 and like at the end of thanksgiving i'm so stuff that like to be honest i don't i'm not even looking for things i'm looking for like a bite of something maybe a cookie maybe some haagen-dazs ice cream like i'm not looking you should do like something you know it'd be a fire uh thanksgiving dessert for you what do you got get to wegman's this weekend or get a delivery driver to wegman's pick up some graders that's the move maybe if they got like this the cinnamon's a great holiday flavor pairs well with the pie um i'm you know i'm only going for that raspberry but i mean get a couple black cherry chip or whatever.

14:19Get a couple of them. Oh, get a couple of them. Yeah, get a little smorce board. Get a raspberry chip, get a cinnamon, get maybe a chocolate chip or a chocolate chip cookie dough. Sorry, I'm being distracted, Kevin. There's a man shirtless outside on our fucking... Oh, they're vibing. They're playing awesome music. They're having fun. They were singing Michael Jackson earlier. It is 30 degrees here in New York and there's a shirtless guy just hanging out doing some sort of construction thing going on out there. Hey, yeah, listen, here's the thing about Thanksgiving, and this is not about me. but it is our podcast.

14:51We can do whatever we want. I really, this is my prioritization of my Thanksgiving day meals. Appetizers, one. Yeah, that's the first thing you eat usually. But that's my most important thing that I eat. Yeah. So I, Oh, that's at the top of the list. Yeah. Top of my list. So it's like my, my mom makes like fucking amazing spinach do and she makes like, you know, all sorts of like artichoke, hot artichoke dip, like all this stuff, like pigs in a blanket or like bacon covered wrap dates, like all that shit. By the time dinner is served, I'm barely hungry. Yeah. And I feel like that's important though because I need turkey.

15:26We need the stuffing. We need the, you know, gravy, all that kind of stuff. Dessert is like, is it far distant third for me? So I don't know. So, but maybe Oreo is trying to jump into the fray here. They are doing a limited edition test and learn tin, which includes six unique Thanksgiving-inspired flavors that invites fans to join a bold taste journey and share their honest feedback. You ready for the flavors, Kevin? Yeah, yeah. Cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, turkey and stuffing, creamed corn, sweet potato, and caramel apple pie. This is intriguing. Yeah. I mean, Oreo has done some crazy flavors over the last decade.

16:15Yeah, you can customize them too, you know? But these are now, we're getting into some uncharted territory. Turkey and stuffing Oreos? Is that really what I'm reading here? Yeah. Wow. I don't know. Creamed corn Oreos? Yeah. These sound kind of interesting. Yeah. I spoiled it a little bit for myself. I read the reviews. Oh, no. There were people who weren't very happy. People were hating. People were hating. People were saying. They asked for the honest feedback. I paid$20 for shipping and I haven't gotten this yet. Oh, that's different. Yeah, people are kind of popping off in the comments. And, you know, would I personally try these?

16:54But would they not like the flavors or would they not like that they hadn't arrived yet? It's both. Oh, okay. But having said that, I'd give this a go. Yeah. If this was at the Thanksgiving I was at, I'd be excited. I mean, you'd probably need like a couple of these. You can only really split an Oreo in half. It depends on how big your Thanksgiving gathering is. You can really only split these in half. That's fair. Maybe in quarters if you were really trying, but even quarters seems like a lot. Yeah. But I don't know. I mean - I like this idea. I'm just going to say - It's a good idea. I like the tin as well.

17:30I love a tin that you can just have forever. So the tin is shaped and looks like an Oreo, which I do really appreciate. That's the best part of this entire collab. It is very cool. Is it a collab or just a limited thing? Sorry, drop. thing drop my bad here's so there's two things i like about it i love the tin and i love the sort of like variety pack yeah slash like give us your feedback kind of thing so that's three things technically that i like about this here's my number one beef with this why are they chocolate covered oreos well you can customize that um with the oreo id so you can you can have them fudge covered or you can have them not fudge covered really yeah wait oreo id what is to my understanding Ike ID?

18:09What are we doing? We're customizing fucking Oreos now? Yeah, that's the drop. It's from Oreo ID. What the hell is Oreo ID? It's where you can customize your Oreos. I was not aware. Well, now you know. Okay. Well, I just accepted cookies, which is very funny when you go to Oreo. Oh, yeah. That made me laugh as well. Okay. So here's what I'll say. Then that's interesting because I do not like milk chocolate fudge covered Oreos. That's too much. I don't need chocolate or fudge on top of my Oreos. I'd rather have them just be regular Oreos. That's what I'm saying. If these were regular Oreos, then I'm way more interested in this thing.

18:45And from what I'm being told here and what I'm seeing on this website, you can customize it and you can choose to not have any chocolate fudge covered on their Oreos. Which is probably the move. Which is what I would do. Then I'm really into this. Then I think this is a great idea. For sure. I think the chocolate fudge is throwing me off as well. Yeah. I'd like to punch up this idea for you. Who likes chocolate-covered Oreos? It's too much chocolate. It's too much. Yeah. Oreos are great. Absolutely. And then you can't even put them in milk. No. Which is the number one reason to put it. They don't retain any of the...

19:14Yeah. It just rolls right off. Here's my punch-up for this. Yeah. Because, you know, do what you will with these limited edition flavors. But I guess, well, Oreo ID flavors, whatever. But let's keep that tin around. Let's put regular-ass Oreos in them. I like it. You know, maybe like a circular... Some circular sleeve-type things. Okay. that you can show up to a holiday party and just have a huge thing of awesome Oreos, what people actually want. Yeah. I am also, I'm with you. The tin's awesome. I don't know about the Oreo ID thing. I feel like that's a little too much. I don't know that I need this customization.

19:53I think this is a little too complicated. I think that's my last thought here. It's like, just make the tin and sell the tin. I don't need to customize. Give me two of every one. take off the fucking fudge chocolate on the outside and just and just send it to my house and make it available and make it because i just went online to maybe potentially order this for my thanksgiving guess what sold out notify me i don't want to be notified you know i'm gonna get this uh i'm gonna give this a single gobble i love the tin don't love the flavors and the fudge i'm with you a single gobble it could have been a two gobble thing yeah if they would have just made it easier and they took off the fudge and just and just made it available you know just kept it.

20:31They had this. Also, the design of the whole thing, not really great. I'll say it. Aside from the Oreo tin. The tin is great, but I'm saying the website, the sleeve is kind of a bad design. So certainly, one gobbles feels right. Kevin, this is a story. The next one is apple pie-flavored mac and cheese. We almost talked about this on the show last week, and we decided to punt it to this week because of the absolute brilliant decision to bring in fucking American Pie's Jason Biggs to promote this thing. Yeah, I mean, fire, fire, absolute fire. When you put this in the channel for Front Center on our Slack channel, I thought you made it as a meme.

21:17I thought you took Jason Biggs and put him next to apple, you know, Kraft mac and cheese apple pie and was like, oh, isn't this a funny idea? And I was like, I don't know if we could post on our page. Like, you know, you're implying that he is going to fuck this mac and cheese. That seems a little crazy for us to post. And it wasn't a meme. It was the real marketing from the Kraft company. Yeah, Kraft is popping off with this. This is probably one of the better brand marketing moments of the year, to be honest with you. This is on Fronty alert. This is on Fronty Watch, dude. You crazy for this one.

21:53Yeah, I saw this on LinkedIn and I was like, that is AI. That's AI slop. It does kind of look a little AI-ish. It looks like AI. Yeah. And then I looked into it and I was like, holy shit, there's a YouTube video from Kraft? Yeah. On Kraft's YouTube channel? Yeah. Like, whoa. This is. So I was pretty shook. And I mean, I guess everyone knows there's like a, I guess, relevant topic for us for other reasons. But everyone knows by now that like the apple pie hack is to throw a slice of American cheese on top. Yeah. Wow. Apparently it takes it to the next level, like a Kraft single. So I guess they're leveraging that relationship there and making a good old time.

22:37And I just love the implication that this guy is going to fuck the apple pie mac and cheese. Yeah. No, again, we've talked about horny brands. There should be a massive hole in the mac and cheese bowl. We've talked about horny brands. Horny brands are certainly a trend. But it's something we've been talking about, something that we've been monitoring here as a trend. And I think this is maybe the tipping point. This is the Kraft Heinz company. Yeah. A billion dollar company implying again that Jason Biggs is going to fuck their product. That's the implication here. There's no other way to read this.

23:16Right? Yeah. And he's got his like little coy expression. Yeah. You know what he's going to do. His look is, I'm going to fuck this mac and cheese. Yeah. He says, you already know. You already know. This is - You already know what the fuck's going on. You know what's being implied here. But it's absolutely a brilliant move. I think it immediately gets everyone talking about it. Yeah. I've seen it on lots of different pages and places since. It's meme culture integrating, memification of marketing. But this is fucking brilliant. Yeah, this is awesome. And I love it. The other thing I love about it is that how crazy is it that the American Pie movie, I looked it up, came out in 1999.

23:59This is now 26 years ago. Damn. This is a almost 30-year-old reference. Wow. That's pretty awesome. That's timeless writing, comedy writing. Imagine you're a writer that you like, it was your idea in the writer's room. You're like, you know, the American pie sort of chasing Biggs, having sex with a pie. Like you created a lifelong cultural moment. It's the keystone of that entire movie. Yeah. The entire franchise. The whole franchise. I mean, it's really, really smart. The other thing that I think is really interesting, and this is something that has already been on my radar, but a sweet apple pie flavored mac and cheese is really interesting.

24:45Like, that is something that I have never even considered trying. I mean, we have talked a lot about Van Leeuwen mac and cheese flavored ice cream. so and there's been a lot of innovation on the uh sweets side of things yeah there's been a lot of sweets going savory but not a lot of savories going sweet correct and there's a lot of sweets going experimental yeah and oreo being one of the main players van lu and there's lots of you know we've over the years we've talked a lot about brands that are doing these like nathan for you type like flavors that make people just say what the hell is that and craft mac and cheese so i went online i looked at the sort of so they have a lot of new flavors you ready yeah so we got the apple pie which seems to be probably the craziest one they have hot honey ranch jalapeno everything bagel mac and cheese garlic parmesan mac and cheese pizza mac and cheese and smoky barbecue mac and cheese these kind of all sound pretty are there celebrities uh that are on each pack or promoting each pack that look like they're about to fuck them not to my knowledge but the colors of the packs are quite bold and vibrant yeah and they do look quite cool i'm just gonna say it this is intriguing yeah honestly shout out to whoever's idea it was to get what's this guy jason big jason biggs jason biggs american pie yeah i know i know i'm familiar i'm familiar with the reference i'm just not yes super sure of his name i always forget it jason dicks shout out to the person whose idea it was because i'm sure this was just like you know kind of a shot you know shoot or shoot moment yeah and it went through and i'm sure they're they're thrilled who yeah whose idea this was i don't know but it is a wild it's a wild flavor slam dunk and it's a crazy idea and it totally works two gobbles for me and yeah two gobbles for me and three gobbles We have a quote from Jason Biggs.

26:39Quote, this to me just felt like a real opportunity to be nostalgic, not just for me and the pie, but because I grew up eating Kraft mac and cheese. Wow. Wow. Beautiful. Full circle moment. You know what he said? You know what he said there? He said, I fucked apple pie before, but never mac and cheese. And I've always thought about it. And to be honest, this is the moment. But yeah, no, these other flavors, they have limited edition. Everything bagel mac and cheese. That's probably pretty good. Hot honey mac and cheese. I mean the packaging for these things also really cool like colorful uh like some nice illustration stuff um obviously uh this is an audio format go go just type in limited new mac and cheese flavors these things look pretty tasty and this is again very oreo of them uh the oreification of cpg where new flavors are just dropping and uh I would like to I would like to line all these things up and do it and fuck every single one i was gonna say i'm right there with you i was gonna say taste them but sure kevin um also i see this is like uh they're very much on like there's a goodles uh of energy to the kraft mac and cheese they see goodles out there and they're like uh we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna step up the uh the innovation the colors the the fun and I respect it.

28:00I respect it. Yeah, shout out to them. Watch this space. Next story, Kevin. Two gobbles for you, I imagine, right? Three. I said three. Oh, three. Fuck. It broke the scale. They did. I agree. There's nothing in the stock that's going to top Jason Biggs for mac and cheese. Butterball, the famous brand known for their turkeys, they got some stats, which is another thing that I've noticed over the years. I don't know why, but Thanksgiving brings a lot of data. Yeah. A lot of data-driven marketing moments. I don't know why this moment brings so much fucking statistics, but about 37 % of millennials feel intimidated by the turkey cooking process, according to the 2025 Butterball Togetherness report.

28:46Kevin, have you gone through this? No. Okay. Well, they got some insights. 89 % of consumers plan to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Only 28 % of consumers expect inflation to cause them to celebrate Thanksgiving differently. And 84 % of Thanksgiving hosts plan to serve turkey this year. But only 47 % say that turkey is their favorite part of Thanksgiving. And apparently 37 people are potentially, they're scared. They're intimidated. I mean, it's tough. It's a lot of pressure. It's a big dog thing to cook. We talk about this every year where turkey can be one of the the great dishes of the year if you if you know what you're doing and you've uh prepared and if you if you got it lined up you know yeah like if you got it like that if you knock it out of the park it can be one of the one of the greatest accomplishments ever because you know if you make a good turkey everyone's gonna be like damn i've never had a turkey like this before yeah you make one good turkey and it has the power to impress not even not not only just your family but like you know the people who are at your house or you know it changes the perception of turkey in people's minds forever like i remember when i had a i had a really good turkey for the first time maybe like seven years ago and wow my brother-in-law's batch cocked it and straight up knocked it out of the park and i was like i didn't even know turkey could be good and you think about that every time you think of him i would imagine yeah for sure yeah he threw down no i remember uh yeah one of my cousins he the first time i ever had a fried turkey you know going through with that experience and yeah i think i you know changed my perception of him.

30:19He's a man. It's a legendary accomplishment to cook the fuck out of a turkey. Well, Kevin, 37 % of people feel intimidated by the turkey process. As they should. But 68 % of people say that wearing the right outfit helps them feel more confident. Yeah, definitely. Which, sure, whatever you say. So the people at Butterball have an idea that they were inspired to create, which is a practical and suitable Turkey Day uniform, which consists of Thanksgiving hosting pants, which are designed to assist home chefs during the busy holiday. Each pair features six thoughtful details to make cooking easier, including dedicated thermometer pockets and loops for kitchen tools.

31:06So essentially what this is, a pair of pants that are basically carpenter pants, carpenter sweatpants. Pretty much. Yeah. And it's a cool idea. The quote from Rebecca Welch, the Butterball Director of Retail and International Brand Marketing says, it's overwhelming to move from being a guest to being a host. When you're a host, suddenly you're in charge of the whole day, making the meal, cooking the turkey, making sure everyone's having a great time. You're keeping the day on schedule and that's stressful. Show me the lie. Yeah. I mean, it's a collaboration with Hedley and Bennett, which is one of the premier cookingware brands.

31:39They make a lot of good stuff. Their aprons are pretty iconic. Got it. So I wasn't familiar with that aspect of this and I was not familiar with their work. So it's a, okay. So they have a real kind of a - Yeah, they make really good stuff. A clothing manufacturer partner. Yeah, they make like aprons. Okay. If you look around on cooking videos, you'll see them pretty frequently. They got the little ampersand logo. Okay, cool. Yeah. So just look for that little tag. A lot of people wear them. Okay, cool. I'm now looking at these pants and they're less sweatpants is kind of what I thought they were.

32:10Yeah, they're like a cotton slack. They're a legitimate work pant. Work pant. They kind of look like an apron kind of energy. Yeah, they're kind of nice and baggy too. Yeah, they do look kind of cool. So they're blue and then they have little turkeys on them. Yeah, it's like a white turkey print. Almost looks like a blue print. Yeah, interesting. Which makes sense. Interesting aesthetic. And yeah, dedicated pockets hold meat for thermometers, which is obviously a big tool. And then a towel and utensil loops keep the most used tools within easy reach. A bottle opener ensures holiday drinks stay flowing.

32:45And to finish all off on a personal note, Butterball says cheeky pun forward iron on patches for a fun, playful touch. Cool. These pants are doing a lot. Honestly, they're doing a lot, but I like it. They're doing a lot. Well, I'm going to give this one two gobbles. Gobble, gobble. I'm going to give it one. I think it's a great quality garment that they made. It's actually usable. Like, you know, it is kind of difficult when you're managing a lot of dishes in the kitchen. Like, you know, where am I going to put my freaking spatulas or whatever? I don't know. Like, I know where I'm putting them because I, you know, I'm a seasoned vet.

33:21But if you're intimidated by the turkey, this could help you out quite a bit. Yeah, if you're part of the 68 % or 37 % of people that are intimidated, and you got to join the 68 % of people that say wearing the right outfit helps them. Definitely. I mean, I do appreciate this. I think this is like - Do we have a price on this or no? I think - Well - Are they just giving them out? If you called their turkey hotline, you could have gotten one for free. What is a turkey hotline? The Butterball - You don't know what the Butterball turkey hotline is? I'm not familiar. It's a hotline they have set up from sometime in November.

33:55I don't exactly know when it launched, but through December 24th to help people with their holiday cooking. That's pretty fucking. It is kind of the season for turkey. That's great. It's like a phone a friend. You're like, hey. Yeah, you give them a ring and say, hey, my turkey's doing this. Yeah. I'm freaking out. Or you could text your turkey questions. Yeah. Wow. Interesting. 1-800-Butterball. I like this idea. I feel like that's a really easy, winnable thing to just make a hotline for people to help people if they're tricky because they're so intimidated yeah sure sure one gobble for me gobble gobble uh instacart uh is uh what are they doing they just have a list of pies well they claim that pumpkin pie is the most popular pie of thanksgiving is it and there's been a lot of well there's just been like a lot of discourse like david chang going on thursday night football and being like pumpkin pie is not actually that good or like i mean i'm with him there you know No, I think we're aligned here.

34:54But basically the story is saying, hey, there's a lot of closet pumpkin pie lovers out there. They're not standing on the table and advocating for pumpkin pie. They're being recessive. They're letting people shit all over it. Interesting. So they're responding to the internet's general disposition of pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie has almost gotten the candy corn treatment over the past couple of years, where they're like, this is so overrated. Like, you know, this sucks. Like if this wasn't like a, you know, they're like maybe claiming that it was like psyoped into popularity by Big Pumpkin. Bunch, bunch.

35:34Okay, I see what you're saying. But they're basically here to debunk these rumors and saying that, quote, while many people claim pumpkin pie is not their favorite, our data tells a different story. The share of orders for pumpkin pie surged more than 2 ,000 % the day before Thanksgiving. Well, I mean, of course. Showing that pumpkin will likely be part of the dessert table. Other Thanksgiving tables like apple and pecan follow close behind, but there's room for some flavor twist too in our top 10. I mean, of course pumpkin pie is going to go up the day before. That doesn't prove anything. Also, just because you have pumpkin pie doesn't mean you like it.

36:08Exactly. Here's the thing. If I'm throwing a Thanksgiving, I'm having pumpkin pie. I'm not going to make it. I mean, maybe I would give it a go. I would outsource it. I'd tell somebody to bring it. or I'd just get one from the grocery store or Instacart and I would just have it there. It needs to be there even if it goes in the trash. And I'm not a big guy for wasting stuff, but I am going to have like one very small piece of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. Yeah, I am not even having that one piece. I'm going to be honest with you. I, at this point in my life, know myself enough to know I just don't like it.

36:44And you know what? That's okay. I'm allowed to admit that. And I'm allowed to, like I said before, The dessert is not really a big part of my Thanksgiving day needs. So if I'm going to have a very small bite of something as far as dessert goes or a small sliver of pie, I'm going apple. Yeah, for sure. I'll take apple over pumpkin. But I think this data does nothing to prove any point other than people are ordering pumpkin pies on Thanksgiving, which everyone knows. But I think it's because the one person that does love pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, they would be so offended if it wasn't there. They'd be like, what?

37:23You got three pies and pumpkin what? Where's the pumpkin pie? It's just like a staple. So you have to have it. But that doesn't mean that people like it. I think if you lined up those pies, you'll see the pumpkin will be the one. Yeah, 100%. It'll be the last one standing. Last one standing. I agree completely, but it does need to be there. It's a staple. That's fine. It ain't right if you don't have pumpkin pie. I'm giving this one zero gobbles because this doesn't feel like anything. Zero gobbles. Just like a report with some very loose data about people's ordering habits. Here's the power ranking of pies according to Instacart.

37:54What do you got? One, pumpkin pie. Two, apple pie. Three, pecan pie. Four, sweet potato pie. Five, cherry pie. Six, berry pie. Okay. Seven, key lime pie. Eight, cream pie. Nine, peach pie. And ten, butter pie. Peanut butter pie. Yeah. I don't know what a peanut butter pie is. What is it, cream pie? Is that after Jason Biggs gets done with it? Oh, my God. Peanut butter pie probably, I mean, I have not had that. It looks delicious. Peanut butter pie is great. Yeah. Where's chocolate pie or chocolate cream pie or chocolate chest pie? I don't know. Chocolate chest pie is great. That's my top. That's my number one.

38:33That's not really a pie, though. I guess who knows? So what's your Mount Rushmore? i mean apple pie for classic you know and then i do like a chocolate cream chest pie and then i don't know like banana cream pie like that to me that's not really that's like that's not really banana pudding yeah you can make anything a pie that's what i'm saying like banana cream pie like that is not really a thanksgiving pie but that's the best one and then just fucking order some ice cream get it from hagen does i don't know i don't like any of these i like key lime pie kind And sweet potato pie, I'm allergic to nuts.

39:06So like pecan pie, I'm out. Pecan pie is great. I'm taking pecan. I'm taking cherry. I'm taking a cheesecake. Okay. And then I'm going to either take some sort of like chocolate cream pie. Chocolate chest. Yeah, chocolate chest cream pie. I'm going to have a flex spot at number four. So for the chocolate chest pie, the peanut butter pie, and we'll throw ice cream up in there. I just have to add to my list, order a pie for Thanksgiving from Petey's Pie Co. Shout out Petey's. Shout out to Petey's. They're my number one go-to pie place here in Brooklyn. They make a great chocolate chest pie. Oh, yeah.

39:44Big, big, big fan of that. Absolutely. Yeah, and the banana cream pie, also very good. Yeah, zero gobbles. Zero gobbles is a bad idea. This is not new information, but it helped spur a conversation. Okay, so Kevin, the next story I really like. KFC says cluck turkey and get a better bird this holiday season with$25 extra crispy festive feast and brand new gravy flight. So essentially people, myself included, have been saying that turkey is trash. I know that you're on this turkey kick, but turkey is not great. Unless you make it incredibly well, which most people don't. But there's a reason why we eat it once a year and we don't eat the rest and chicken dominates.

40:31And I feel like on this show, we've talked about this year after year that there are some people that just skip turkey and they're just like, I'll just get a rotisserie chicken or I'll just get something else. And there's people even do steak I've seen. I've done steak. Yeah, steak, which I, again, steak better than turkey. 100 % but KFC is now throwing down and they're putting up billboards that are anti-turkey that say shit like gobble gobble this or be thankful you don't have to eat turkey or give that dry bird the bird pretty good me this is a plus mark the colonel's back the colonel's back with an attitude here I love it I love Turk I love a KFC a famous chicken company going out there and being like, fuck Turkey.

41:16Yeah. I mean, I love Turkey, but this is good marketing. Yeah. And I feel like this is a battle that has been kind of bubbling for many years, but a brand really needed to take this and throw it down. And I think this is brilliant. Everyone knows that chicken is so far superior. Fried chicken compared to Turkey is not even close. No, it's not even close. I mean, I am very hungry for KFC right now. Yeah. And so they have some data because of course they do. They say that 35 % of consumers hate turkey and 37 % of Americans now are ordering takeout or delivery for Thanksgiving, which that's not super surprising to me.

41:54I feel like it's a lot to make all this kind of food. And if you get it delivered, that's - It's honestly really nice to not do anything on Thanksgiving and just, you know. Do you know how happy I would be? And I'm not saying that anyone should do this because it's a little bit blasphemous, but But if you get a bucket of extra crispy fried chicken, and then you get a$4.99 pot pie, and you get a bunch of their sides and fixings, you're going to have a great time. Oh, for sure. Oh, my God. You're going to have an incredible time. You can even get some mashed potatoes and gravy. You can make it feel like Thanksgiving.

42:27Yeah, definitely. I just think this is fucking brilliant. I think KFC. Yeah, this is one of those things. Off the top rope. Off the top rope. I can't believe no one thought to do this in the past. Yeah. Like chicken talking shit about Turkey. Come on. So good. It's right there. It was right there the whole time. And the copywriting is great. Who are whatever agencies behind this clock Turkey, give that dry bird, the bird, like it just, the stuff writes itself. Absolutely. It's like that Nike campaign about running, you know, it's just like, it's just the lions are right themselves. So it's like, this is just tapping into the cultural consciousness about how, how far superior chicken is to Turkey and just, and being the brand that puts it out there.

43:07Yeah. It's a gobble gobble for me. Two gobbles for me. Absolutely. So the deal that they're promoting is$25 extra crispy festive feast. And I guess you get a whole bunch of stuff. You get a brown signature gravy flight with three flavors. Signature brown white peppercorn gravy. Damn. And new Southwest cheddar gravy. Oof. Includes eight-piece bucket of extra crispy fried chicken, biscuits, two large sides of mashed potatoes, and three sides of eight-ounce gravies. I mean, listen. Hell yeah. I would fuck this up. I might get this tonight. You might fuck it up like Jason Biggs. I was going to say I might do this for dinner tonight.

43:42Who cares? Just a regular night. Yeah, I was going to think of that too. Last story, I think, or maybe one of the last. Heinz has a really good idea too. So this idea is that leftover gravy is inspired by, remember the 90s sitcom Friends? No, I don't remember that. So apparently there's an episode with the one with Ross's sandwich where David Tremor's character Ross is upset with a coworker. Does he fuck the sandwich? He doesn't fuck the sandwich, but it's a classic situation where he gets upset with a co-worker who steals his leftover turkey sandwich. So basically, they have this idea that leftover gravy is the next day's main event.

44:23So they're selling, it's like a kit. You get gravy. And I believe this is how it works. that is for your main Thanksgiving dinner. And then you get an empty bottle. Yep. And then after the Thanksgiving day dinner, you then fill the empty bottle with your leftover gravy. And it kind of looks like a sort of Heinz bottle, sort of classic ketchup container, but with a sort of a purple motif to it. Yeah. Here's the thing. Okay. I'm going to pick and choose where I, you know, I'm picking and choosing my battles. And I'm obviously, you know, a hypocrite in some regards, but I am going to choose to be sustainable here and admonish this zero gobbles for shipping an empty piece of plastic.

45:12That's pretty, pretty egregious. I hear you, Kevin. I salute you. I'm going to give it one gobble. I think it's kind of fun. I just think the packaging, I'm a package design guy. And I feel like a package that says leftover gravy and something about having that in your house and sort of the iconic Heinz label and typeface. Yeah. I don't know. It's something I like about it. And also the purple. I don't know what. Something about it. Sure. Just really speaks to me. I really like it. Yeah. I mean, this is my favorite part of Thanksgiving, honestly, is the leftovers. Yeah. I love like a turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potato, stuffing, whatever you got leftovers.

45:51throw it on a sandwich, call it a day. A couple of years ago when I was on my road trip, I had a bunch of leftover Thanksgiving sandwiches while I was exploring the Grand Canyon. Wow. That's a very, very fire day for me. A day never to be forgotten. Yeah. I'm with you. I agree with you because I'm typically so full by appetizers on the day of Thanksgiving that I don't really appreciate Thanksgiving, the meal itself. It is much more appreciated the next day. And then I do think there's something about putting it on some good bread. If you get some good, you know, like sourdough, you get, you get something like something, you get, get some good bread from your local bakery.

46:32Yeah. And then you make a really good turkey sandwich the next day. That is, that's heaven. Yeah. I'm with you there. And then you just put enough stuffing or you'd put a little bit of gravy. Like you don't go, yeah, you don't go hog wild. You don't go too crazy. And I think that really makes it something. Absolutely. Speaking of stuffing, the next story, White Castle is basically just selling stuff. Oh, they're giving you a recipe. Oh, they're giving you a recipe. Yeah, they're just providing the recipe for slider stuffing. They do this every year. This sounds horrible. I thought this was a good idea.

47:05It's a terrible idea. No, I'm kind of into it, though. Really? Why are you into it? I don't know. It's just something about putting a burger and stuffing. Oh, so that's their sort of way they're basically saying you should get and yeah it's like enhancing the stuffing or using the frozen sliders to you know make make stuffing with the bread of course yeah so you just basically go buy white castle sliders and then you just break them down and turn them into stuffing is that what it is yeah they do this every year that is disgusting yeah it's pretty bad i'm putting one gobble zero gobbles for me i mean listen i get it but if that is some sad shit like Like if you're turning White Castle into stuffing, like just order KFC.

47:43Like just do what we just said. Or order, you know, Boston Home Market, whatever. Popeyes does a turkey. You can order delivery. Yeah. Or just don't do it. Like just order. Make something regular. Have a - Get a pizza. Have a salami sandwich. Yeah. Have a pizza. Like if you're that down on your luck that you need to have a white, turn your white castle sliders into into stuffing it's not down your luck it's uh god damn it's a high low situation hot no i mean this is like a low this is this is this is taking a low and turning it into a low is it if this showed up at my if this showed up at my friendsgiving if this showed up my thanksgiving i'd say i'd say thank you this is this is fire oh yeah yeah i mean you'd only make like a small dish of it but yeah i would love to try it yeah remember i'm all i'm all into burgers whatever burger anything so burger stuffing fuck yeah i'm in oh kevin remember like i think this was last year di giorno did their thanksgiving day pizza i think i saw that it was back so i guess it must be some sort of success but yeah they they they those those crazy maniacs at di giorno were doing a fucking thanksgiving pizza with stuffing and gravy and turkey and mushrooms that is better than this yeah that is a blasphemy uh that do not bring that to your friend's house.

49:05That is significantly better than turning white castle sliders into stuff. Sure. I'm sorry. Zero gobbles. And then, Kevin, your favorite story. Yeah, Brown Friday. Here we go. Take us out, Kevin. Hey, so just a reminder, the day after Thanksgiving is one of the toughest days of the year on pipes and plumbing. And it's one of the busiest days for plumbers of the entire year. You know, that being extra traffic from not only, you know, the feast from the prior day, but you got family in town. There's a lot happening. There's grease being maybe potentially poured down the drain. I hope not. But just stay vigilant out there.

49:42Maybe don't pour the grease down the drain. Double flush. Take the precautions because you don't want a plumbing nightmare on Brown Friday. Yeah. Yeah. And who is the company? Listen, I saw several companies this year trying to jump on this wagon of the story. And the one I have was not the one I like. But the OG one, the one that we've known and loved is from Roto-Rooter in Cincinnati, Ohio. So shout out Roto-Rooter. What I love about this is on Thanksgiving every year, Kevin turns into like Bob Barker about spray and neuter your pets. But his cause is about brown Friday and then drains. No flushable wipes.

50:30Those things aren't actually flushable. Yeah, you got to be mindful of your scraps, be mindful of your drains, be mindful of your bathrooms, and think about those people out there. It's their Thanksgiving as well, and they don't want to come to your house. It's their job, but they would rather you have a great Thanksgiving where all your toilets are working and pipes look good. They just want everyone to have a great time. And that's why we do this story. We want you to have a good time too. That's right. And so, Kevin, I'm thankful for you. Thankful for your sort of your spray and neuter your pets.

51:04Yeah. That's the. Yeah. Just take care of your pipes. Take care of your pipes this holiday season. Thank you for listening to our show. We do appreciate you. We have a lot of good guests coming. We have some already banked. We got some people. End of the year is coming quick. We got the fronties, the backies. Oh, my God. Award show season is right here. Jesus Christ. We got a lot of shit before the end of the year.
