In short

The episode is an “emergency pod” covering behind-the-scenes sports production, then diving into the Instagram wordmark rebrand (“InstagZam”), and reacting to recent brand controversies and ads.

Guests

none are featured; it’s just the hosts (Kevin and another host) plus mentions of designers/agencies (e.g., Kodo) and CEOs (Chip Brewer, Callaway).

Key claims

logo rebrand backlash is often knee-jerk and unfair; most rebrands improve systems and solve business problems. They praise Armin’s delayed, thoughtful coverage.

Notable examples

Instagram’s new R shape and the shift from older Mackey Saturday wordmark/type; GoodGood’s LinkedIn golf ad where a man shoulder-checks/trucks a woman; Callaway’s CEO apology; Liquid Death + Garage Beer “We Want Your Pee” AI-data-center parody; Jif removing iconic jar striping while expanding flavors; Crocs introducing mascot “Niles.”

0:00You know, another thing I saw that I really appreciate on the internet, they had a camera on the cameraman that captures the home run trot from third base to home. Did you see this video?

0:15Kevin:Yeah, I didn't see the video. And basically, he's just sitting there watching the game. He's got a camera strapped to him. And then the second a home run is hit, he has to then, like, get onto the field super fast and then basically get the camera in position. to basically catch the guy rounding third and then get that shot of him hitting home. That's great. Pretty exciting job. I love some BTS. Yeah, I was not familiar. Sports production is insane. Crazy, right? Yeah, I mean, give me any sort of video about watching those camera guys operate the camera, like the punch-ins. I love those videos.

0:48Kevin:One of my favorite exhibits I've ever seen was at the Museum of Moving Image in New York. And they had the Mets broadcast. like they had basically like what was a live, you know, fee. Yeah. He had the director being like, all right. Cut to camera three. Cut to camera three. Camera one, punch in. Yep. You know, just directing the whole show. They had like the broadcast booth. It was insane. I love those videos. They have them. So tight. People do them on TikTok now. Like some of the producers are putting cameras on them. As they should. While they're shouting those things out. And I watch them all the time.

1:21Kevin:They're like, cut to Nick Jonas's face. Yeah. All right, back up. All right, then to Joe. You know, it's like. Yeah. they're just live directing it's awesome it's crazy and um a lot of respect to those people that's how i feel when i'm editing this podcast boom

1:45Kevin:emergency podcast i mean regular scheduled podcast emergency podcast uh guest snafu not snafu guest uh scheduling conflict podcast listen you guys we don't like to complain around here about how hard it is to be podcasters uh you know that's well done well basically what it came down to is i didn't uh i didn't finish a podcast before i left for california and i thought i could finish one i i got back you know red eye monday came back in a red eye monday morning 6 a.m yep took a little nap a little breakfast came into the studio ferociously edited a podcast and then uh sent it to the person for review because i guess oh this guy will totally like you know be quick about it and you know there won't be very many changes turns out he's on i think he's on vacation for his uh birthday so shout out to shout out to him yeah yeah which fair enough like i was like yeah we'll hold it we'll hold it but you know here it is uh yeah what time is it it's uh you can break the fourth one it's 2 31 p.m on wednesday 2 31 on yeah on wednesday which you know we'll see this is a speed run we'll see how fast i get this out i think i think i could probably I get it done by like, I'm aiming for like five.

2:50Kevin:Wow. Well, thank you for your patience. This will be a quick blast. To the listeners. And thank you to Kevin for the accountability. I like that. He said, hand up. You know, it's on me. Sorry, dude. Yeah, sorry, dude. We got a lot of stuff going. We got a live podcast in Montreal next week. Fuck yeah, we do. At Forum. Yes, yes. Come see us. Yeah, come see us. And if you live in Montreal, you know, I'm down to hang out. So yeah. Kevin and I are going to be there for quite a while, actually. So please, let's hang out. Let's meet some of our many listeners in the Montreal, Canada area. Yeah, sure.

3:22Kevin:I'm down to hang. I had another scheduling snafu. Now I need homies to hang out with up there. Well, it's going to be good. Let's do it. And we're doing a live show at Forum. We haven't promoted it probably enough. I shared one of the things. Okay. The theme is chaos. And we have amazing sort of panel of Montreal designers that we're going to be talking to. So first live podcast, first time we have three guests on the show, and it's going to be electric. Maybe we'll release it. Maybe we won't. Depending on how it goes. Yeah, depending on how it goes. If it goes well, we will put it out here on the channel.

3:57Kevin:If it's a total disaster. Well, we'll see. I don't know. If it's good, I don't know. It'll be very Montreal specific. Yeah, but maybe people care about Montreal disaster. Yeah, maybe we'll release it. It basically comes down to how I feel and if I want to or not. Fuck yeah. I like it, Kevin. Don't make any promises. Yeah, I'm not making any promises. Yeah, but if it's really bad, maybe we put it out because they need to hear how bad it went. Maybe not, though. Yeah, either way, it may or may not be released. We'll see. Well, I'm glad we're doing an emergency pod because we haven't talked about the biggest news of the week, which actually happened like two weeks ago, which is the Instagram rebrand.

4:32So what better time to talk about than now? I guess if we didn't talk about it now, then we probably would have talked about it in like a couple of weeks.

4:38Kevin:I don't think we're scheduled for a solo app for a minute. So I guess it was necessary. Also, we should say RIP to Dolly Parton. Yeah, RIP. A legend of the game. And RIP to Mackie Saturday's logo. RIP to Mackie Saturday's logo, which had a good run. Both Dolly Parton and Mackie Saturday's logo had a great run. Absolutely. And yeah, if you live under a rock and didn't pull up Instagram in the last 10 minutes, they decided to change their word mark. I'm going to be honest with you. I've opened Instagram so many times from the time they rebranded it until now, and I noticed it once. Yeah, I was going to say.

5:15Kevin:I did notice it only once, and it has changed nothing for me in my life. Yeah, absolutely. I'm still addicted to Reels. Yeah, exactly. I don't think anyone has opened up the app and thought, oh my God, am I on the wrong app? Is this InstaZam? Oh my God, what am I doing here? I'm here for the word mark, and everything changed. Literally, it's not even used that much. It's only there at the very, very top. And the icon is what they're known for, obviously. I have something called Instagram Plus, which you can change the icon. That's exclusive. I have some other shit where my icon doesn't look like your icon.

5:49Kevin:What do you have? What do you got to pay extra for that? Yeah, you do. Mine was done by Pablo Rochot. It's like a hand-drawn Instagram logo. You know what else I could do with that? I can post my stories for more than 24 hours. Wow. Oh, I can extendo those stories. that's crazy i know i know i have special a schmuck like me just has to post it again yeah so if you ever see my stories you're like wait a minute this has been up for two days it is wow i got special fucking powers that's pretty crazy i know shout out to me but um yeah so the instagram word mark changed and people freaked out yeah i mean it's kind of common knowledge that this is what is gonna happen yeah this just happens now but it it does surprise me every single time that a popular brand, let's just start there, a popular or well-known brand changes their logo, everyone is going to fucking freak out.

6:49And Instagram, I learned this week, has three billion users. So that's almost half of the population is using Instagram. So that is a lot of fucking people. And so, yeah, the immediate response, I think from everyone was a unanimous, nope, hate it. The R looks like a Z and it's bad. Instagasm or whatever you said. I just got to say it. We need to stop hating every rebrand. I'm talking to designers because this is our listeners. That's us. It has become a sport where like a new logo comes out five minutes later, everyone on Instagram or Twitter or wherever fucking threads or wherever they go.

7:38Kevin:Wherever you bitch and complain. Wherever you bitch and complain, LinkedIn, the old one was better. They ruined it. This one sucks. And it's like, guys, we do rebrands for a living. This is our profession. Yep. And so what are we doing here, right? Like, you know, Cracker Barrel, oh, I hate it. Jaguar, terrible. Like Instagram, no. Like we need to stop. Like were all of those logos perfect? Yes, they were. But like I'm not going to get into that. But like most of these things are the new version is better than the old version. Sure. And for the most part, I assume that they were trying to solve a business problem with that new mark.

8:23They didn't just do this because they wanted to. There was some brief that was given to some people to design something that was going to work in the world different from the old one purposely. And you know what? You didn't see the fucking brief. You weren't there in the room. You weren't in the sessions. You weren't in the meetings. You don't know what the client even asked for. So you don't know the constraints. You don't know the strategy. You don't know what they presented and got killed. And you don't even really know the problem that they were trying to solve. But yet you are going to criticize it and critique it and tear it to shreds because it makes you feel better.

9:07And we need to stop doing that. It makes the entire industry look bad. And I'm going to be honest. It makes the individual look bad too. Because for the most part, it's jealousy. They're like, I would have done this better. Why didn't they come to me?

9:22Kevin:and it's like they didn't they went to kodo yeah they went to they went to kodo like all like all massive businesses they went to one of the best design agencies in the game a company that has been doing this for years and has lots of proof that they can do this really really well and so what i liked that was interesting was that there was this immediate first wave logo comes out everyone hates it and like i liked it from day one hand up i was right we didn't have a podcast or i would have said that and i actually you know um and then a week later it comes out codo jeremy mickle something special these are the people behind it yeah they got the freaking thanos squad or whatever the voltron squad whatever the fuck you want to say and everyone's opinion seemed to shift.

10:14Oh, what do you mean? Oh, they actually got good people to do this. Wow. Shocking.

10:19Kevin:Dang. I'd like to work there someday. I'm going to change my tune. What I also really like is that Armin, we've talked about many times in the program from brand new, shout him out, been on the show. He does this thing we've recognized is that he doesn't immediately jump on the first week review hype cycle, which he probably would do better numbers if he did, because in the, you know, the way the internet and culture moves so fast these days, there's a lot of discussion happening very, very quickly. And then it becomes old news in like three or four days. He doesn't put out his review. Uh, he didn't do it for Coke.

10:58He didn't do it for, uh, sort of, um, for, for Cracker Barrel. Like he didn't do it for Instagram until about a week or two later. Yeah. He's just being thoughtful, which I, in the beginning, I think I was like, oh man, you're, you know, the business hat of mine was like, you're missing clicks. You know, you're missing page views. What are you doing? And now I have come to really appreciate that. Not only does he take his time, he is thoughtful about this approach and then also lets some of the news kind of come out and then becomes like a second wave media source to like talk about some of the backlash and then address it and gather some of that information.

11:41Kevin:Yeah. And he's painting the whole picture, you know, which I think is really, really valuable. And so I have a lot of respect for him and the review that they put out because it provides a lot of context, a lot of information, and then a lot of the details, which didn't come out until the Kodo case study came out. Yeah. Which, um, it's good. I'm just going to say it. The type is good uh the i liked in the brand new article that the old type was a typeface called billabong did you see that yeah yeah it's like one of those typefaces that you would never use not even like you know if you're making a live unless you're making a live laugh love sign for your mom's kitchen you know it's got that sort of pinterest uh sort of energy to it um which i didn't know which i think is hilarious is that the like og first that's the very very very first one like Back in the day, every post had to have a filter on it.

12:33Yeah. And so that was the old type that Mackie Saturday cleaned up and sort of did a much better version of in 2013. Wow. So that's 13 years ago. And even then, Instagram was like a very different app. And that logo was connected to like the old vintage camera logo that they had at the time. And it connected. It worked. It was a bit of a vintage throwback thing. Shout out to Mackie. He constructed that shit and made it a sort of very clean looking, nice script mark. But they did rebrand, I think, six years ago. or like they switched to the sort of new modern camera gradient version. I guess I could probably look up when they did that.

13:29Kevin:Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.

13:372016. So, yeah, I was right, 10 years ago. So three years after the Mackie Saturday mark, They switched to the sort of new gradient simplified camera and they kept the old wordmark. And that never totally made sense to me. It didn't feel like they were sort of part of a similar system. They then rebranded, I think, three years ago, so 2023, and introduced some new aspects like a new custom typeface that's like a mono, some other aspects of the brand, handwriting stuff. But the wordmark was kind of the last sort of frontier. And yeah, they made it better. And so they got Jeremy Mickle, who we need to get on the program.

14:27He hasn't been on the show, right? No. Good dude. amazing talented fucking designer does all the custom word marks for you know the olympics and sort of adidas and just has done all sorts of yeah incredible incredible typeface work and uh yeah they they they uh they they did some great work it's better you know it's it makes more sense with the new icon which is now the famous icon that everyone knows and yeah i mean it's good. I don't really have anything to say other than it's good. And people are wrong about it. I think in about three months, this will be known as the new Instagram. This will be the Instagram logo.

15:08No one will think about it because to your point earlier, they're just going to scroll right

15:11Kevin:past it. Yeah. I'm just swiping, dude. They're just swiping. And I'm sorry, Mackie. We love you, but you had a good run. You had a great run and it had to go. I mean, I don't know if it had to go, but it went and we can all be appreciative of that work and I guess the new work too. It happens. It happens. This is part of the game. Part of showbiz. I don't want to be advocating for the new design, the rebrand haters out there, but I mean, did it need to happen? I mean, it didn't really need to happen. Literally, you could take that word mark off of the app and nobody would care. But they do commercials maybe and they do ads, which to be honest, I don't think they need to even do those things either.

15:55Kevin:They have 3 billion users. They don't need to make ads. And I will say the rest of the system that they sort of put with this wordmark, I don't know that it did much to change the brand. It really is just an updated wordmark that fits better with the icon. And that's all that people seem to be talking about. Everything else is kind of like a mishmash of some of the old stuff and some slightly new stuff. Yeah, it looks cool. I'm not going to hate on it. I like it. I'm just, you know, I'm asking questions. I'm asking valuable questions. It's a very, you know, listen, you know. And I'm not going to bite the hand, you know.

16:31Kevin:If we hate all rebrands, you know, what's the solution? Don't rebrand ever? Like, what are we supposed to do? We should. What are we supposed to just, you know, hang out? Have no job? No, we have. No rebrands, no jobs, brother. No, that's what I'm saying. We should be rebranding, but we celebrate. I'm agreeing with you. Oh, shit. I'm confused. I thought you were disagreeing. I'm backing up what you said earlier. Okay, cool. cool okay i like it i also like that kodo snuck in like a million different r explorations into their case study i don't know if you saw that it was a way of saying kind of fuck you internet haters we looked at a lot of r's and this is the one we chose yeah which i respect that i like that a lot um i also like that it's a little fucked up and hard to read yeah no one's gonna think that it's instigasm i'm sorry it looks it's a r it's a little bit of a funky r it gives a little bit of something called character yeah nobody is mistaking that for anything so let's uh it's cool.

17:22I dare I even like, I like the R that looks like a C. I think it's the coolest part of the logo.

17:26Kevin:Pretty sick. Yeah. And so that's, that's really the news. That is the story. I think people like got bent out of shape for no real reason. And, um, yeah, you're making us all look bad. So stop it. Criticism is part of design. Like I think that is fair. Like I'm not saying that we need to love everything, but maybe, uh, think about it for a day. Yeah. I mean, I just think it's like the, you know, this black and white, you know, the biggest thing ever. Like, it's fine. It's fine. Like, if you're, if you don't like it, it's fine. If you do like it, it's fine. Like, you can have your opinion, but like, I don't know.

18:01Kevin:Let's, let's, let's pump the brakes. Let's pump the brakes a little bit. Like, you know, let's just, you know, keep it tasteful. We don't need to be sensational in every aspect of our lives. And we don't need to write these sensational LinkedIn posts. Except for if it's about a, you know, pretty horrible. Callaway and good. Yeah, Callaway and good, good. then it's justified that is probably warranted kevin has created something called the linkedin story of the week uh so uh new segment alert yeah and that comes from uh callaway golf uh clubs and something called good good i was not familiar with good good me neither you just filled me in it's a like a barstool sports that's just basically what i'm getting from the five seconds i've spent on their website makes sense so it's the they're the bad boys of golf i think it's just like more of like a, yeah, like we're an up and coming new lifestyle brand for, you know, casual golfers, maybe who like to party, maybe, you know, maybe who like to play good golf, you know?

18:54Kevin:Sure. I'm not, you know, don't quote me on that. I have not really looked into them. Great. I love it. Very much. Sounds good to me. And again, I've not done the research either. That's the front center difference. Absolutely. And I did watch this video 60 seconds before we started recording. It's quite shocking. I mean, I mean, I think so. If you didn't see the video, essentially it is a woman standing on the T. She's about to drive and she grabs a driver from her bag. Tries to grab. Tries to grab a driver and some guy runs from like 10 to 15 feet away and shoulder checks her. Yeah, just trucks her.

19:35And that video was posted on LinkedIn.

19:40Kevin:and I guess it was part of the larger video that I watched. I mean, it was like 60. It was like 45 more seconds. I think the push happens at like 15 seconds. So it was like a teaser for a larger video. Yeah. I mean, the larger video is 60 seconds. And the larger video is... Yeah, it's not going to twist it. It's not that much larger. In the biz, it's the 15, the 30, and the 60. So that was the 15 for this. Well, I think it was just getting clipped. It might have... Oh, really? Yeah, it was just getting clipped around. They were just clipping the 15. I think that they released the whole video in its entirety.

20:11Kevin:The 60 seconds, people are getting upset because rightly so. A guy trucks a lady. Yes. That's just crazy. It's fucking insane. I mean, literally, I watched the full video. It doesn't get any better. It's not like there's no particularly good reason why that video needed to be made. Yeah. I was doing a little poking around on LinkedIn and the CEO of GoodGood was like, Yeah, sorry about it. We were referencing Obsession. I haven't seen that movie, but does a woman get trucked in Obsession? I don't know. I'm not familiar with the film either. But yeah, the sort of gist of the long form video is that he is obsessed with his golf club and it turns him into a madman.

20:55Right. So then he's just like gone kind of Joker mode, like because of this. Yeah. Yeah. Scene read, I guess. So all in all, the whole thing's in bad taste.

21:05Kevin:It's pretty bad. Yeah. It's just, there's nothing creatively interesting about it. And so immediately the internet turned, they flipped the what the fuck switch. And we're just like, what the fuck is this? I think also because golf has a sort of like image of sort of quality and decorum generally. I'm not saying that this would be acceptable in any other sport whatsoever, but I'm saying I think it's even more startling because of golf's reputation. Definitely. It is a bit more of an exclusive boys club. That and also like I think when Tiger Woods like a sort of golf golfer was doing all that sort of crazy shit with hookers and sort of waitresses like it was more shocking than like if you know a basketball player baseball player football player whatever would have done it.

21:49And I think that's because of the country club element of things. But like again this doesn't make sense in any sport. A man laying out a woman just is just it's just a bizarre thing to see on your timeline and it's awful. so both brands had to come out and put out statements good good golf posted a video to our channels that ultimately depicted actions that are not aligned with our values as a brand we have since taken that content down and sincerely apologize good good also stood for making the game of golf more inclusive to all and we'll continue to ensure that our mission moving forward

22:20Kevin:yeah I mean you posted it it's against our values but we yeah I like I mean target got to some hot water this week we don't need to get into that but there's just like I guess the answer now is do something really dumb and then it's like apologize and keep it moving. Essentially, the target one was fucking crazy. Holy shit. I think we just need to again. Like I know we, you know, we're moving fast like we talked about and people need to get these videos and these blogs up and we need to get the clicks. But like maybe take a half a second and say, yeah, maybe maybe putting this stuff out there.

22:54Kevin:Yeah, it's wild that it saw the light of day. you know that's what i mean you would think that like at any point of this like creation the creation of this video somebody would be like hey yeah you know like maybe uh maybe that's not how it should go or like hey is there anything else we can maybe do like maybe you know yeah maybe could it be a could it be like one of his friends who gets trucked like that's probably a little better like yeah it's probably enough like he doesn't need to truck a woman he could probably yeah he probably truck someone else and it you know and and no one would no one would talk about Is there another way we can convey this concept of how good this driver is?

23:27Kevin:That's not putting a woman under the ground? Yeah, yeah. Just the fact that it wasn't stopped at any point is just crazy. Yeah, no. Like, ooh, how many people did this get through? Yeah, I mean, I imagine Good Good Golf is probably, again, more willing to take some chances and do some things than Callaway, which is a pretty big brand. Yeah. And so I'm not going to read their full apology because boring. but I do what I do really like is the ending. The video was completely inconsistent with, we believe that we have been a positive force for diversity inclusion in the game of golf. So not just like we strive to, we believe we have been.

24:07This video is completely inconsistent with that. I assure you that we will learn from this and do better. Humbly, Chip Brewer, CEO of Callaway Golf. That is the most CEO of Callaway Golf name I've ever heard.

24:21Kevin:Chip Brewer. Yeah, damn. Sorry, Chip, you fucked up. Yeah, that's pretty tough. It's pretty tough. But hey, you know, people probably talk about this driver more than anyone ever would have. Yeah, heads are probably going to roll a little bit here. Yeah, heads will roll, but also this driver sounds incredible. Oh, my God. I'm just kidding. We got to talk about Liquid Death and Garage Beer. Yeah, this is probably one of the better things I've seen come from them in a long time. I was going to say the same thing, Kevin. We haven't talked about it a ton, but... No, you have. Every opportunity you get, you say the thing you're about to say.

24:58Kevin:Which is that... And I disagree. That Liquid Death has lost its fastball a little bit? I mean, they're just doing a lot of stuff, yeah. And I don't think it percolates up to the top of the media cycle. Fair. And I don't think we're seeing everything they're doing. That's fair. I mean, you're right. They're taking a lot of shots on net. I think pound for pound, video for video, Liquid Death is probably putting out more shots on net than any other brand is. And they're still hitting a good amount. They did some diaper thing this year that was pretty fun. They just got to stay in the piss realm. I like it.

25:27I like where you're heading, Kevin. This was your favorite brand, and maybe it's still your favorite brand. I know this is - I like what they're doing.

25:32Kevin:Yeah. Salute to them. And listen, you know what? I'm a reformed hater, so I'm happy to join you here. This one is a hit. Like this one - Yeah, massive hit. This is what Liquid Death does best. Yeah. And to be honest, Jason Kelsey a little overexposed, a little everywhere. I could probably do this commercial without him and enjoy it. He's crucial. But it's a great spot. So the idea is it's called We Want Your Pee, and it's liquid death and garage beer. So garage beer is a beer brand founded by the Kelsey brothers. And so they're joining forces, urging fans to donate their urine to cool down the water guzzling AI data centers.

26:16Kevin:Yeah, the chorus of the song is let's pee on computers together and save humanity. So I think this is brilliant. This is like I often compare Liquid Death to SNL, which is maybe apropos because I do think that Liquid Death sees themselves as a comedy media sort of vehicle as much as a obviously water beverage. They and SNL misses a lot of shots, right? We've talked about that. I watch every week. A lot of those skits are not great. It happens. But then every now and then - That's show business, baby. It's showbiz. Every now and then you get a really great spot or a really good idea, executed well, and this is that.

26:56And yeah, the idea about AI data centers needing lots of water to cool down is like a very fodderful thing to make fun of.

27:08Kevin:Yeah, and it's a great idea. I think we should all do it. Yeah. And I think urging their people to send in their piss to these AI companies is just hilarious. And the video is really great. And the song is very funny. And Jason Kelsey fits the role perfectly as sort of leading man for this video. And it's got this big anthemic vibe. It's brilliant. Yeah, it's fire. Good for them. And it's really, really good. And I like to see them winning. I will be sending my pee to an AI data center. I didn't love the Mr. Beast thing quite as much. You didn't like the video boy? I like calling him video boy.

27:52That is objectively funny.

27:54Kevin:But I just, I don't know. But is Mr. Beast still a thing? What happened to Mr. Beast? Yeah, Mr. Beast is still a thing. Yeah. What? But wasn't, are the videos still up? Are the videos still coming out? I feel like I haven't seen that. Yeah, you're just not like 10 years old. Oh, yeah. You bring up a good point. You bring up a good point. Mr. Beast is for babies. You're just not a child. Mr. Beast is for babies. Yeah, and he's still putting out videos. Yeah, escape 100 cops, win$500 ,000. Fire. Four days ago. I genuinely want to see that video now. Every once in a while, they'll get me. I'll be on Facebook, scrolling around or whatever, doing my thing.

28:30Kevin:Wait, you're on Facebook? You got a Facebook? Oh, dude, I'm on Marketplace. Listen, I'm a member of a couple groups that I get a lot of intel on my hobbies. Okay. And it's really good for that. Okay. And you get like the boomers complaining about something. It's awesome. But yeah, every now and then I'll get got by a Mr. Beast video and I'll watch it. That's good. I'm happy to hear that you're still Beast Head. But yeah, I'm now on his YouTube. He's still doing his shit. Oh, yeah. Trapping people in places and having celebrities fight for each other and stranding people in the wilderness. You know the vibes.

29:05Did you see the Jiffre brand? I did. Real quick before the Mr. Beast. I do think one thing that's very funny is that Mr. Beast did a day in a week in the life of Mr. Beast, like sort of more of like a traditional influencer type video. Nobody watched it. I mean, 50 million people watch it, but like compared to his like 200 million. Yeah. That's nobody's videos. That's absolutely.

29:26Kevin:Yeah, definitely. You want to talk about Jiff? Yeah. So I hate it. that's good uh jiff is the peanut butter company that uh i also hate there's just the peanut butter you know like i mean i don't love the p i don't eat the peanut butter anymore so maybe you know maybe this is a good point to be like oh well i guess this is where i get off yeah this it's not for me anymore like i just don't i prefer something a little uh more a little bit natural more less sugar yeah you know that type of shit but this is uh yeah They removed the full striping around the jar of peanut butter. It just makes me sad because I just really love that iconic package.

30:08Yep. So, yeah, the old packaging was iconic. It kind of was known for these three stripes, the RGB of it all. And in an effort to expand the flavor lineup, it appears, because they no longer just have creamy and crunchy. You know, back in my day, Kevin, you had two options, creamy and crunchy. Yeah. Now you got to have your no sugar. You got to have your reduced sugar. You got to have your honey flavored, your hot honey flavored, your cinnamon flavored. It's all about the flavors. Yeah. And so to accommodate the flavor expansion of the Jif brand, they kind of lost some of the sauce.

30:47Kevin:Yeah. I guess it makes sense. You got to expand. I'm not a huge fan of putting these like the apple and the celery I don't know do we need to know obviously peanut butter is one of those things where you just kind of put it on everything do we really need the education moment that that package is providing can't we just like can't it just be peanut butter and you just know what to do with it yeah you bring up a great point I hadn't noticed this until you pointed it out I think that was one of the reasons behind the rebrand Yeah, skews and then they're trying to modernize and show all the uses of peanut butter.

31:22Kevin:But we already know. What uses of peanut butter? So they got peanut butter on pretzel. Rice cake. We got peanut butter on rice cake, peanut butter on celery, peanut butter on apple. If you don't know to put peanut butter on those items, what have you been doing? I don't know. We don't need to be educated on where peanut butter goes. Yeah. Peanut butter, we know where it goes. It goes everywhere. It goes everywhere. You know where it sometimes goes? Straight into my mouth. Do they have that? Just a spoon. Just a spoon, exactly. They should have that on one of their fucking packages. I don't know.

31:55Kevin:It is just like, something like this is like, man, I just wish we could have just left that alone. Yeah. Just leave it alone and figure out how to do the SKUs in other ways. I think there was a way to keep sort of iconic-ness. Look at us being haters. Hating against a rebrand. This is the first change in 30 years. I mean, they did also extend the logo a little bit. I do the logo when you look at it. Yeah, they took the drop shadow off it. They did take the drop shot off. I don't hate that. I do like this. Leave it. Just leave it. Leave it be. I think you could have done this without removing. I think you could have lost the drop shadow, but kept some of the like color thing.

32:32Like I just, it's such an iconic piece of packaging.

32:35Kevin:It's just, you know. Yeah. Some things don't need to get modernized. Yeah. But you know what? Here we are. Here we are going against what we said before. So full circle on today's podcast. absolutely uh do we want to talk about anything else uh we'll just we'll just say it crocs got a new mascot niles okay uh we weren't gonna talk about it but it's a crocodile and he's wearing crocs um very good job by crocs great mascot um and yeah that's the show i will i will take your word for it because i'm not a crocs guy i've actually never put a pair of crocs on wow yeah that's so brave of you i uh they're fire but they never had a mascot uh they had he niles was always It was on the rivet, they call it, I believe.

33:14Kevin:What does that mean? It was on the logo on the shoe, on the little binder thing on the strap. But now they bring them into real life. Shout out to Niles. Did he always have a name? But now he's out there. He's out there. I'm sure he always had a name. Well, I'm happy they did this. Yeah, we got to go. Adios. All right. Peace.
