That's the classification for runner in my mind. Wasn't one previously, but now I'm there. And I'm running the New York City Marathon. I feel like I deserve the toys. Yeah, definitely. That's the thing. It's like I feel like I have earned the right to splurge up to and not limited to at least one sort of watched track. Are you going to make an edit? Of like a TikTok of me running? Training for the marathon, the marathon. i mean i can barely uh well if you're on strava then the next logical thing to do is to make an edit what does that mean oh just make an edit you know what does make an edit mean i never felt older make an edit a video content yeah it's like me running like oh yeah well you got to make it more interesting you got to do you got to do fun things i take pictures of myself for my strava runs uh that's uh maybe like uh maybe like a video of you peeing that's those those always go in mine in my videos.
0:59No, you can just do it on the iPhone. No, but I'm saying I got to be running and this. I don't know. Maybe get a friend. I don't have the energy. Maybe get a friend to film you. I don't have friends, Kevin. I'm 40 years old. How are you not in a run club? You love running. I go to the bandit run club on Saturdays. Make some friends. I make friends out there. Edit for edit. I'm not accusing you of not making friends. How dare you, Kevin. I have the ability to make friends in run club settings. That's not what I was saying. No, I am with you, Kevin. I should be monetizing this. I should be making more content.
1:34No, you got to make it just, you're not making, not monetize, but make a sick edit. No, no, no, no. I should be in more ads. Like, I started following some guy that he's sort of a jolly, chubby man like myself. And he has a thing called Suns Out, Tums Out. Yeah, you really think you're jolly? I wouldn't call you jolly. Well, he's just a He's a thicker gentleman. I don't know his jolliness or my jolliness. So you were assuming his jolliness based on his size. That's right. Very problematic. Yeah. Canceled the podcast. Yeah. No, I like his content because he is encouraging men with bellies to go out there and run with their shirts off.
2:15Yeah, pop the top off. Pop the top off. And as I've talked to you about, I have sort of insecurities about popping the top off. Yeah, you got to pop it off. And I'm not there yet, but this man gives me hope. and now he's creating a movement of other guys with their thumbs out. And now he's in ASICS ads and stuff. He's become a fitness influencer. Everybody should be able to pop their top off. I agree. No matter what. Shout out to him. I pop the top off all the time. Listen, I believe it. I'm going to run the New York City Marathon just topless the whole time. Well, that would save your nipples.
2:49You know what's funny? I'm of the things that I am considering and stressed about for the New York City Marathon. Nipples is top three. Yeah. Yeah. It's got to be. Because I don't want to make that dumb mistake of running in some sort of uniform or something that looks cool because I want it to, you know, be showing out. But yeah, wrecks my nipples. And that that's a pain nobody wants. Yeah. Well, here's a here's a show related thing. There is this new shop in Williamsburg. It's called Home Run. Okay. Have you seen it? I have not. You should check it out because I think they do like run clubs and shit, but it's like really, they got good merch.
3:26Okay. I'm not exactly sure what kind of brand it is or what kind of store, but I do. They're all, I think they're all about like, you know, being athletic and getting outside and shit. And they carry like, they carry some good shirts and they make their own stuff. Okay. I think it's like athletic slash. Home Run NYC. I mean, I think it's a lifestyle brand. Yeah. You know, there's. Shout out to those guys. They're doing sick stuff. Okay. Home Run's a great name. Okay. Yeah. No, Kevin, I know that you would only put me onto something if it was legitimate. And here I am, home run NYC, 19 ,000 followers.
3:57And yeah, some people getting after it. And listen, yeah, fitness is a lifestyle. Oh, but they posted something the other day that I saw. It was like a running jersey. And it said home run on the front. And it had blood streaks down the... Oh, for the nipples. Nipple blood streaks. Wow. Yeah. So their core. Wow. So they're cosplaying as people that got your stolen ballot for real? Oh, no, no, no, no. Oh. It was real. Oh, it was real. It was authentic. Yeah, they run. I thought they were printing blood on the nipples. No, no, no. I think it was like a jersey laid out on the McCarran track or something.
4:33Got it. And they're like a bin. And it was like, we're core. Yeah. No, I mean, listen. They seem cool. I'm a runner now. Yeah, go check them out. I will. I will. Free ad for Home Run. Yeah, shout out to Home Run. I was not familiar. there's certainly no shortage of run clubs and people running out there on the streets. What are you running from? Oh, too many things, Kevin. Too many things.
5:02Three, two, one. Kevin. So much run talk. I know. That'll probably be the longest opener ever. I mean, we got a couple things. Shadows to our new sponsor Strava. Yeah. Yeah, Strava, Home Run. Bandit Running. Bandit Running. Asics, yeah. We're just two fitness guys. Yeah. You like fitness?
5:26I will say, if you look at old clips of us. Oh, yeah, that's pretty bad. I can't look at them. We've come a long way. There was one I saw the other day. I was like, what the hell happened to my face? Oh, yeah. I mean, the lighting wasn't doing you any service. You keep saying that, but I don't think it was just the lighting. I look like I was stung by multiple bees in the face. Oh, it's all right. in the face uh speaking speaking of being stung by bees uh you have poison ivy kevin yeah i'm on steroids what happened how did you get poison ivy and why am i suddenly itching all over you're not itching it's it's impossible to catch it um for me at this point okay good unfortunately uh my girlfriend arden caught it oh she got a couple spots um yeah it's not good out there touching grass yeah i was out there touching grass i was uh i just came back from cincinnati i was there for like 10 days, hanging out with the nephews, hanging out with the fam.
6:13The nephew get baptized. So the whole crew was in. It was nice. It was really nice. Yeah, family time. Basically, one of my nephews hit... We were struggling to find activities to do outside at my dad's house. Just start. My brother-in-law had like some pickleball rackets and balls in his trunk. So they got him out and they were like hitting him around. And then one of my nephews just like smash it over the fence at my dad's and you know being a classic being a good uncle i was like all this time i'll go get that ball like whatever and i i was gonna like put one of them over to get it but it was like caught in between the fence uh it was like right behind the fence and some like shrubbery or you know what what was poison ivy and uh when i was reaching down i guess i i i nicked it and got oiled up and uh okay i didn't know and then i didn't shower for about 24 hours so it spread how did uh how did arden become the scapegoat of this it sounds like you just caught it yourself well i caught it but i gave it to her i yeah i guess i still had a little oil on my skin when we when we uh were sleeping that night and i mean she's got a little spot fun but so is it is it contagious uh well it's like from the oil so like what once you once you rinse the oil off it's fine you're fine you can't spread but like mine spread pretty aggressively and i also get like fucked up by it like i got it i got like under my eye which i'm a little worried about wow that's why i'm on steroids okay well steroids i'm juicing clear that shit up and then you'll be hitting i hope so speaking of home runs yeah you'll be hitting home runs right now hopefully i gotta find a softball league to play in yeah stat uh yes summer kevin we've made it to august summer is pretty much over now it's still summer you know it's a football season.
8:00Hard knocks starts the night. Come on. We're basically, uh, eating wings and, uh, I'm still in baseball. Wearing the denim jackets. Yeah. You're still in the summer. I'm still in baseball season. You're still in baseball season. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I have, I'm locked. I'm locked in. Yeah. I haven't really jumped on the Mets bandwagon. I know they've been hot and cold. They're, they're, they're, they're, they're a good team. I don't know if they're great, but I'm, I'm ready to, I'm, I'm about ready. I'm itching to get back on the bandway. I need to get my ass out to Citi Field is what I need to do.
8:27Yeah, damn right. Sort of anything else on the summer agenda here, Kevin, before we start talking about the big breaking news in the world of branding and design? Anything, anything? Top of mind? No, not really. No travel plans? Nothing? No, nothing. Maybe like a little bike trip or two. Just biking and running. Yeah. Just going nowhere fast. Yeah. I don't really have anything coming up. It's nice. Yeah, I will say the New York City Marathon, we've talked a lot about it, so we don't need to go too much further. But I'm starting to feel not dread and fear, but excitement. That's good. I will say that.
9:05And I haven't felt that way in a while because I've been just so terrified of the fact that I have to try to run 26 miles. No, you'll be all right. And I think I just got to stick to the training and I got to stick to the running. And I'll be okay. You got to start hitting the bridges, dude. The bridges, yeah, that's certainly going to be a problem. There's a lot of uphill. Listen, I don't know shit about running, but I did bike the route last year. Oh, yeah. Before the marathon started. That's classic New York cyclist thing to do. You go early and you bike it right before everyone gets there.
9:41Oh, why? I want to cry about it. I want to bike the race. Oh, yeah. Just keep adding to the shitty anti-cyclist rhetoric on the internet, Alex. Go ahead. But no, but as somebody who's ridden it before, I think the elevation is a bit surprising. Okay. No, that's good to know. Got to get on those bridges. Yeah. My father was telling me that. Don't neglect. Don't neglect the bridges. My father was telling me a little bit about the pre-run situation because you got to get so many people to Staten Island. There's so much waiting and sort of walking and standing. So, you know, it's hours before you actually can get out there and start the run, which that sounds truly terrible.
10:21Like the fact that there's going to be a lot of I may start the run tired. You'll be all right. But I'll figure it out. But yeah, Kevin, three months away. I promise not to talk about on every single podcast, but I do have to also raise some money for kids. So look for. Oh, do you really? Yeah. I mean, we should get you looking like a NASCAR car. Yeah, I think I'll start promoing or begging people for money online and on the podcast. I'm soon, sooner than later. Yeah. Now that I'm actually feeling like I may actually run this thing. So the worst case scenario would be to raise money, beg people for their dollars, and then let them all down.
10:58That would be actually the worst thing I could do. You'll be all right. Kevin, we have huge news in the world of food and beverage. I mean, as a podcast, we talk about design. We talk about branding. We talk about running. We talk about sports. We talk about – what else do we talk about? I don't know. Documentaries. I watched a Billy Joel one. Pretty good. A great long guy on there. Yeah, we get some news here and there, some new things, some collaborations. But this is big. This is huge. Yeah, you're very excited about this one. Yeah, you were out with the fam getting Poison Ivy. And a big bodega news bomb dropped.
11:38And I was like, I got to talk about this. I mean, this is why we have a podcast. I was like, maybe Kevin should should fly home, send a private jet and get him here. Emergency pod. Emergency podcast, because this is the type of news we have to discuss, which is two of the greats. Titans. Titans of industry of the bodega snack world are coming together, joining forces. Mondelez and Hershey's are putting down the beef. You know, they're putting down their fucking guns and say, it's time that Oreo and Reese's 1 and 1A of the bodega join forces to create not one, but two super snacks. It's pretty good.
12:26I like how they each got like a form factor. That's right. In the fight. Yeah. It's like a home and away game. It's like when the Mets and the Yankees play. They play some, you know, some games in Citi Field, some games at Yankee Stadium. And yeah, it's not just one product. It's two products. Yeah, they got a Reese's filled Oreo and an Oreos filled Reese's. I mean, Kevin, you're just going to say it so cavalierly. Come on, Kevin. You can set it up. This is huge. And we have some quotes from the brands. They've seen the comments in the DMs. You've twisted, you've dipped, and you've combined the two flavors on social media.
13:03And they're finally announced that the two products are ready for the world to devour. they are going to come out in September, but the presale starts August 18th. My first beef with this is that that's too far away. I'm excited about this, and I don't want to incur buy this. They should be in our hands right now. I should be eating these right now, but they've decided to make two flavor mashups. Also, these need to be readily available. They're going to be. I think they're going to be mainstream. All right, that's good. So the first one is an Oreo Reese's cookie featuring two chocolate sandwich cookies filled with Reese's peanut butter cream in the middle.
13:45I'll try it. Makes sense. Yeah. And then the second one is a Reese's peanut butter cup featuring milk, chocolate and white cream outside with peanut butter and Oreo cookie cream on the inside. I would also probably try that yeah I think they're both interesting but I don't I don't know as a creative professional I don't know that this is how I would have done it yeah what would you have done I think that the cookie prominent one is done right absolutely simplicity you have the two cookies the iconic Oreo cookies on the outside and then you have the Reese's peanut butter on the inside call it a day I'm good with that.
14:34Okay. You know, yeah, you're missing some of the, you know, cream of the Oreo, traditional Oreo, but I'm okay. You can leave some stuff out here. You know, we're collaborating. We're bringing two things together. We don't need to bring everything. On the Reese's prominent one, I think there's too much going on. Yeah, they're doing a lot. Because you have an outside that has both milk and cream chocolate or like white chocolate and dark milk chocolate. Well, it's probably more of a nod towards like the Oreo Hershey's bar. Correct. And then you have the peanut butter on the inside, and then you have cookies inside of that peanut butter.
15:14That's just too much going on for me. I mean, I like that they're trying. I think it may taste delicious. It probably will. I'm sure. And I assume that they've tried these, and they spent years in the lab trying to concoct the perfect combinations here. Yeah, 100%. I will say the packaging is, yeah, it feels really good, right? Because you have this blue and the orange. Maybe it's because I'm a Mets and Knicks fan. But it just feels right. It feels like these two brands were meant to be together. Yeah, I agree. I like what they did here. I mean, and I like that the fandom of the internet is giving this the praise and the love that it deserves.
15:59because I feel like these things this is big huge news here this is like Coke and Pepsi coming together is it? yeah because Mondelez and Hershey Co these are two giant companies that I would imagine the cross pollination isn't often but what do you think Kevin what do you got I'm probably more here for the Reese's filled Oreo than I am for the Oreo filled Reese's but I will say that I would definitely try both of them and you know i don't really out on a limb there yeah hot take i would try both of these wood um i don't particularly love like the white chocolate of the like hershey's uh cookies and cream oreo bar um having said that i do like it though like i i like it but you know kind of skeeves me out sometimes you know just uh i don't like maybe it's the texture or like just the the artificialness of that white chocolate, but I like it, but I don't gravitate towards it.
17:02I don't know. Having said that, I would eat it. Okay. You know, would. Yeah, would. I had Rocky Road ice cream for the first time this weekend, Kevin. Breaking news. Wow. I've never had it before. I mean, it's a flavor, an iconic flavor profile for ice cream that because I'm allergic and have been allergic to almonds my whole life, but - Look at you. Expanded the palate. I mean, I had to try it. It was, I didn't really want to. It wasn't my go-to. Chocolate, chocolate chip. Haagen-Dazs is my go-to, but they were out of it at the bodega. And so it was kind of like, maybe I should try this Rocky Road.
17:37Yeah. I mean, talk about a fire ice cream flavor would be the Oreo, the Reese's filled Oreo cookies and cream. Oh, now we're talking. Maybe even have it thrown some cream in there too. Wow. I think they could have used a small layer of cream in that peanut butter. Really? Yeah. I actually, I was at an ice cream shop this summer and actually had a strawberry cookies and cream. So instead of the sort of traditional sort of base, it was strawberry ice cream, which have you ever had like a pretty damn good? Have you ever had like cookie, cookie dough, cookies and cream? No, it's crazy. That's crazy.
18:09It's fire. So here's my take on Rocky road because, you know, I'm coming into this, you know, sort of late in the game. I like almonds when they're crunchy and when they kind of sit in ice cream for a while, they're a little less crunch to them. They're a little bit more soggy. And then, you know, so that's like they're good, but not great. And then marshmallow is not has no right. Yeah, I agree. I'm just not a fan of marshmallow. I'm not a fan of marshmallows in anything except for just on their own. I agree. Maybe a rice crispy treats, but. Great point. Rice Krispie Treats or s'mores, like actual s'mores.
18:49Yeah, for sure. 100%. But I do love just crushing some marshmallows. Yeah, no. But in ice cream, I don't know. It just doesn't add any value. Remember about a year ago, Mesa, she told us that marshmallows were healthy. Oh, she did, yeah. Oh, wait, no. Maybe she dispelled them. Oh. Hard to say. All right. We'll have to give her a ring. But I mean, I think you can make them out of collagen. They seem pretty healthy. They seem like not that bad for you. I don't know. Just from vibes. Well, yeah. Speculation. Kevin, I just had to. Can I tell you about the ice cream I tried? Oh, yeah. Kind of an old story, but I did try the Skyline Graters collab that launched probably at the beginning of the year.
19:33Okay. Skyline Grater. Two greats. Speaking of greats coming together. Absolutely. This is the Cincinnati. Two Cincinnati Giants coming together. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What is it? What's the flavor? It was like, it honestly was really, really, yeah, it was just skyline chili flavored. But I mean, they played up like the cinnamon and I mean, it tasted a lot like cinnamon ice cream. Like it wasn't, it was, it was delicious. It was good. I wouldn't probably eat it again. Kevin, it's called skyline spice with oyster, it has oyster crackers. It did have oyster crackers in it. And I felt the same way as you felt about the almonds.
20:07They, the oyster crackers were a bit soggy for my taste, but I don't know. It kind of added a nice salty mush. Interesting. Not my favorite, but it was good to try. I was happy to try it. Interesting. I mean, these are two titans of industry in Cincinnati, so I respect it. I was not aware that it existed. Oh, no, yeah. No, it came out earlier this year. French Pot Ice Cream Skyline Spice with Oyster Crackers. I don't have the time to read this entire Eater article that sort of goes into the flavor profile and the review. but you said meh mix reviews? I liked it. It tasted a lot like their cinnamon ice cream.
20:47It was kind of cinnamon forward. Interesting. I'm looking now because I just googled. I'm looking at the Grater's raspberry black chip. Black raspberry chip? Yeah. It's just so beautiful and so tasty. It's my number one ice cream flavor of all time. It makes me want to get to that. Not my personal favorite but I respect it. It's so fucking good. Um, Kevin, I think we need to move on, but this Reese's Oreo, uh, sort of collab has gotten me really excited and I really want to try these things. And I think it kind of made me think a little bit because I was like, why are, why are people, brands, PR agencies, why are, why are we not getting free stuff?
21:30I don't know. We are the number one design podcast in the world. we talk about sort of collaborations and sort of these these new innovations and these um these brands we're giving you free promo free ads on our program and we just want to test the goods yeah we just want to see what that pepsi prebiotic soda tastes like right yeah we just want to hear more about your protein packed matcha energy drink that one doesn't exist i just made it up but like i want to we want to try it right in the pipeline creatine cereal i think that yeah exists right I don't know. Man cereal? What? Man cereal? Yeah, I want to fucking try it.
22:06I'm a man. I like cereal. We're here to be your test dummies. Yeah. Brands. This table should be, every week we should be filled with goodies and things that we can try. What are we doing wrong here? We need to make more videos, more content, I guess. But we've done enough. We've done enough for your free stuff. Yeah. Well, I mean, I've been corresponding with some PR people. and they are either berating me, sending me one email per day, following up one AI written email per day, or there's some correspondence. And actually, I am working on landing a pretty cool guest. What? Okay. Through one of these people, but it got punted.
22:50Interesting. The Indiana Jones of snack food, they called him. Okay, wow. Well, don't give it away, Kevin, here. Well, I guess you could Google. This is a tease. This is a tease. We're hopeful we can lock this in. I mean, we do have some cool guests coming down the pipeline. We have a lot of cool guests coming. But, I mean, listen, cool people, great to help promote their businesses. I'm trying to get free snacks for us, Kevin. This is what, you know, we've put in the work. We need to get the rewards. Yeah, I hear you. I'm sick of not getting this. Speaking of rewards, Kevin, there was a little mix-up at the High Noon factory.
23:28Classic mix-up. that has gone a little bit viral on the internet because there was a shared third-party packaging supplier. Third-party packer. Who accidentally sent empty Celsius cans, specifically the Astro Vibe sparkling blue Razz cans to the good folks at High Noon accidentally. And they maybe accidentally filled them with high noon vodka seltzers. And we have a problem on our hands. Yeah. Because could you imagine trying to drink a Celsius Astro Vibe sparkling blue Raz, going to the gym, maybe going over to your parents' house, you're playing some backyard pickleball, and accidentally you got a high noon raspberry vodka seltzer.
24:25Could you fucking even imagine, Kevin? I couldn't imagine. You know, as people who are, well, we cover the industry. We cover a lot of beverage, you know, CPG. On the beat. And this is not a common error. No. You would think it would happen more often because these third-party packaging co-packers and suppliers. They're usually dialed. Yeah, they don't make mistakes. No. But they do make a fuck ton of different brands. Yeah. So it is not. It makes a lot of sense. I mean, it's probably the same can too, right? Yeah. 12-ounce skinny cans. The FDA had to step in, Kevin, confirming that no one's been harmed yet.
25:03Thank God. They've issued a recall warning and the risk of unintentional alcohol ingestion. Man, Celsius urges its customers to check all of their Astro Vibe sparkling blue razz cans, especially those with the silver lids or specific lot numbers on the bottom. And, yeah, it would be a real shame if those people accidentally consumed. Yeah, it's unfortunate. But you know what I would like to see personally? Yeah, Kevin. I would like to see them take this L and make it into an opportunity and have them come together and make 20, 25, 4 Loco. Wow. No, I mean, listen, they should turn these lemons into lemonade and make a Astro Vibe, sparkling, blue Razz, high noon flavor.
25:54This is the only answer here. It's the only logical thing to do. Yeah, it makes perfect sense. And ship it out to their retailers in Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Because between the dates of July 21st and 23rd, those customers, potentially in those regions, may have made a sort of... Their lives could have been flipped upside down by this. Yeah, could you imagine going for a run and you're like, oh, I'm going to crush this Celsius first. And you chug it and you realize, whoa, that was not a Celsius. Wow, wow. That is a vodka seltzer. I mean, I couldn't even imagine the horror.
26:32I mean, to be honest, would you even taste the difference? Yes. I mean, I think I've tried a Celsius once. Yeah? Oh, yeah. I had one Celsius and it fucked me up. I don't think I've ever had a Celsius. I was like, I drank it before a flight because I was like, oh, I got to get some stuff done on this flight. And then I ended up just like, you know, being anxious the entire flight, not getting anything done. You got jittery and anxious and started freaking out and scratching worse than poison ivy. Pretty much. Yeah. Is Celsius one of those drinks? I've never had it where it's like, it's so sweet that you literally can't add.
27:10It's not that sweet. Okay. It's pretty like, it's palatable. I think it's like quote unquote healthy or like low in sugar. I don't know. Okay. I'm more of a C4 energy guy. I'm more of just a coffee. Yeah. Just give me a, give me one coffee. I don't, I don't need any energy. Yeah. I don't even know that I've had high noon. I don't think I have either. Yeah. I mean, listen, problems that could be righted here on the show. I guess I would. I'd probably prefer it to a white claw. I think so. Yeah. But I don't know. High noon is just not for me. I don't know. I'd rather just have a beer. same Kevin you and I you know that's where we uh that's where we put down our sort of guns and yeah it's where the cyclists in the runner can shake hands you know what's better than all these fucking seltzers and drinks up here a cold beer on a hot summer day you know what the only thing better than a cold beer on a hot summer day you know what that is Kevin what it's a lazy boy boom and that's how we do a transition on this program Kevin did you have a lazy boy growing up I did not have a Lazy Boy, but I will say Lazy Boy is just one of those brands that's just so ubiquitous that you don't even think about it.

28:15Oh, they're such a good chair. Did you grow up with one? Yeah. Okay. An official one? An official one. Wow. I, again, am familiar with Lazy Boy because I live on this planet. I consider myself a Lazy Boy. Self-identified Lazy Boy podcast here. Exactly. but I was not aware of the history until I read this beautiful article written by the good people at Brand New Under Consideration. I mean, listen, I just have to say, the people over there do the Lord's work. Yeah, shout out to Armin. Shout out to Armin and the crew. And yeah, there was a guest writer. And I don't typically look to see who the writers are, But that's how good this article was.
29:04Oh, yeah. Well, shout out to Jay because Jay and the team at Brand New have really done their homework. And they have given not just a review of this rebrand, which we'll get into in a second, but a history of the company, the home furnishing company known as Lazy Boy. And when I tell you that I was titillated by this information, created in 1927, Edward Kanabusch and Edward Shoemaker created a novelty furniture project, started with a phone bench, which was a first of its kind because it had built-in storage for a phone receiver and a phone book. This was their first creation as a company in 1927, which you could imagine, you know, you're on the phone.
29:58You want to be sitting down. Yeah. You got to put the phone, you know, sort of receiver. You don't want to hold that thing. So you stick it into something. And then you got this fucking giant ass book. You want to put that all into the bench. Brilliant. And then two years later, they invented and patented a wood slat folding porch chair with the ability to fucking recline. Kevin, they invented the recliner. That's pretty good. Recliner, I hardly even know her. Wow. One customer suggested that they sort of add sort of upholstering to this invention and created a sort of year-long piece, not just a piece that you would sit outside, I imagine, on a porch or a front lawn and recline on.
30:44And that is how the Lazy Boy Reclining Chair was born. Oh, boy. What a story. Oh, my Lord. And yeah, for the last, what, 100 fucking years, they've been - It's been the go-to nap chair. The chair to sit at on Christmas, Thanksgiving, cousin's house, family get-togethers. The Lazy Boy is an iconic chair. The official chair of your dad taking a nap. 100%. Yeah, yeah. Grandpa snoozing while watching sort of C-SPAN. Yeah. He did that shit on a Lazy Boy. It's great for old people. You know, like they're able to sit down without getting too deep and then they recline and then they can bring themselves back up.
31:26I know because I watch it. My dad falls asleep in his constantly. It's an iconic chair. So iconic to the point where I don't know that we give it enough credit. And that's why I like this rebrand or I like this story because it's calling attention to something that we're taking for granted. Absolutely. And so they, as a brand, have had the same branding for the last 20 years. And it's funny because I can picture it because it's got the sort of reclining shape that the Z fits in. And it's got this sort of super wide, spaced out, Euro-style kind of typography. Yeah. And I believe they now sell a whole wide range of things, including mattresses.
32:10Am I correct? Oh, I don't know. I think they have reclining mattresses. I haven't looked through their inventory. Yeah, me neither. But I'm familiar with the logo. We're talking Lazy Boy. We're talking the recliner. I'm sure they've expanded their portfolio of offerings. But we're talking about the Lazy Boy. Yeah. And again, it's one of those things where Bernstein bears. Would I assume that the Lazy Boy was spelled with a Y? Y Lazy Boy versus Lazy Boy. Like, I don't know how I would have. I would have assumed that there was a Y in Lazy Boy, but the way it's pronounced is Lazy Boy. Yeah. Well, how are we feeling about this rebrand, though?
32:55Okay. So this rebrand is rough. I'm just going to say it. It is, you know, a return to the 1927 logo in many ways. everything sort of, it feels like a sort of athletic baseball team. It has this sort of italicized type and a lot of hyphens. And it's funny, as someone that has not considered a lazy boy from both a product or brand perspective, maybe in my entire life, I'm surprisingly not interested in change like yeah i'm like man this is quite a jump from what they have currently it's a completely different brand a completely different mark and without sort of seeing the old 1927 logo it just feels like it just feels like a script that came out of nowhere well hey the good news is scripts are coming back well remember people can't read scripts because kids don't write cursive anymore.
33:57Well, we're trying to bring them back. I think the design industry saw that article by the Dallin, shout out to Dallin. Yeah. And they said, we got to bring them back. It feels a little familiar. And I mean that not in a good way in that it's like, I don't know that this is an exciting new mark that is going to stand the test of time. It feels like maybe they're looking at themselves and looking at the past. And we're like, okay, how do we modernize this old thing? I mean, the focus on the Z in the middle is interesting. Yeah. I mean, I was sad to see this one go. I love this logo. It's very nostalgic.
34:34It brings me right back to 2003. Yeah. But upon doing the reading on Brand New, I've come around on it, seeing the old references. Yeah. I mean, I think, you know, they're returning back. They've referenced their old logo and their old logo is beautiful. And I think it, honestly, I think this logo looks great when it's carved into that wood. recliner handrail thing they got. And I love that thing. I used to take it off and play with it. Yeah. I will say there's a bit too many hyphens going on. I feel like if I was sort of working on this project, I don't know that they need those hyphens. I think they've maybe moved too far away from the iconicness of the last branding.
35:18I feel like this is too much of a whiplash for me as a lazy boy brand enthusiast as of the last 10 to 15 minutes. You know, I think, I don't know. It just kind of feels kind of generic. I will say that. It feels way comfier though. It does feel a bit more comfy, a little bit more rounded. Yeah. A little bit smoother around the edges, a little bit less sharp. And when I'm sitting on a chair, I want nothing but comfort and cushion. Looks like you could sit right in there. Yeah, it looks a little bit more cozy. It's inviting me to recline. It's a bit more inviting. Speaking of inviting, the 1990s logo, which I, again, was unfamiliar with until the great people at Brand New have laid out the history here.
36:09Yeah. That is a mark that we could work with. Absolutely. That mark is thick with multiple Cs. Yeah. And that's a comfy, cozy logo that we should have. 100%. That's the logo we should have brought back. Yeah, that's the logo on the Lazy Boy at my house. Really? Wow. That's what I'm familiar with. Do you have an affinity or sort of an emotional connection to that? Yeah, I mean, I think so. I think I also have an affinity for the 03 one just because I remember seeing it like, you know, on a building, you know. Okay. Yeah, I just like how bold and confident and thick and sort of comfy that old one is.
36:46I have to look. I'm, yeah, okay. I now see an old ad with that old logo. Oh, man. I think they made a grave mistake here. They really could have went back to that 90s. Well, let's calm down. Grave mistake. Yeah. I don't know. The 100-year-old company, man. I hope they live to see another 100 more. They'll be fine. They'll be fine. Those chairs speak for themselves. That's true. No one is buying those chairs for the logo or the branding. They're just buying them for the pure, poor, sweet comfort of it. And I do think that the number one touch point of these chairs is that wooden recliner handle.
37:24Okay. And I think this logo looks better on that handle. Wow. I did like the monogram. I thought that was a nice little touch with the LZB there kind of thing. I thought that was kind of nice. I feel like that maybe could work in some instances. I didn't think that was bad. I was pretty shocked to see that they're trying to bring Gotham back. Oh, yeah. Yeah. As a secondary typeface here. Makes sense. They're probably early on it. Early for the comeback. Yeah. I mean, the year is 2025 and they're bringing Gotham back. Maybe trendsetters here. Yeah. Obama. That's what I think about when I think about Gotham.
38:022008. Obama. Yeah. Gotham. Gotham typeface. I didn't even know what design was in 2008. Yeah. There you go. Just a kid out there. Just lying in a real cliner. Playing video games in my lazy bowl. That's right. Exactly. I also want to say one of the things in the sort of roundup here or the conclusions article, they said brand new did. This is one of those brands that has sunk so deep into the culture that anything new is going to require some adjusting. Oh, wow. And that is the type of writing. That's straight up gasoline. That's diesel. that we have to support here at our program. Kevin, Cindy Sweeney, and American Eagle are in a whole bunch of controversy that we are going to completely fly right over here because that is too hot.
38:49Speaking of handles that I don't want to touch, too hot for me. Wait, you're telling me she was wearing jeans in that commercial? Just kidding. Yeah, if you want to read some hot takes on this, just go to LinkedIn. Yeah, just go anywhere else but our program And you'll find no shortage of people talking about Sidney Sweeney in these jeans, jeans, pun, which, you know, kind of smart, but Jesus Christ. Yeah. I mean, literally. Read the room. Read the room. I think it's funny that people are like the latest stories that people are surprised that Sidney Sweeney is a Republican. Yeah. Like, did we not see the family gathering?
39:28Is she? Is that confirmed? I mean, who cares? One. But two, it's like, what did we also we just voted a Republican into office? Like, yeah, there's a lot of people out there that vote. Everyone's coming out of the woodwork now. I mean, listen, are we are we shocked? Are we this is we said we're going to move on Delta, Kevin, the airline choice, my airline goat. Best one. My personal favorite. They're my go to airline. But I will say I am alarmed by this next story. they are shifting to an AI powered pricing system. The AI will base the fare on what it thinks you're willing to pay versus a standard fare as hyper personalization.
40:15And then immediately got a ton of backlash and have now wiped it from the website. But Kevin, I got a spin zone. I've seen enough. What do you got? Spin zone for me is I'm a cheap bastard. and hopefully my years of you know being a stingy motherfucker will pay off here i like this take the ai will will say this guy's probably not willing to pay over 200 for this flight yeah let's charge 225 that's the most we'll get from this guy yeah so maybe maybe ai is good in this situation for me personally fuck man you bring up a really good point maybe this is gonna reward the cheap motherfuckers uh out there and i would i self-identify as cheap at times um i'm looking for good deals out there.
40:57But I do fear that this is going to be potential. This is definitely black mirror, bro. We're living in a black mirror, bro. This is Uber shit. This is what Uber does. If Uber had airlines, they'd be like, oh, you really got to get to that meeting? Fucking price it 10 times higher. How do they know? We read through this guy's emails and he's got a wedding that weekend, so let's charge the fuck out of him. He's got no choice. He has to get there and his phone's on low battery. He's got to fucking get on this flight. Let's jack up the fucking prices 10 times. Oh, it's raining and there's no enterprise vehicles available at his local Williamsburg sort of rental.
41:37Yeah. Let's charge this shit 10 times. Yeah. This is a problem. Yeah. No, this shouldn't be I mean, I'm sure the pricing is somewhat already being manipulated by AI. Yeah. But the individual manipulation of the prices maybe a bit too far. This is a problem. I mean, this is something that I'm glad that there's awareness to it because I feel like it's happening already and we're not aware of it. Like, I'm familiar with the fact is that, like, if you get, like, Taco Bell in Greenpoint is going to be more than Taco Bell in other parts of America or Taco Bell in other parts of maybe even Brooklyn. I think it's, you know, I think they call it dynamic pricing.
42:18I know those Christmas tree motherfuckers, those Canadians. Oh, yeah. they've been doing dynamic pricing on on on my ass for years you know the green point christmas tree is like nine million dollars and you go get one in long island city go to queens you know it's a third of the price but uh yeah this is this is not great um i i saw some posts also about sort of supermarkets potentially doing this where they will track your ass around the fucking store oh just leave us alone. Yeah. I mean, I, I agree with you. What you're willing to pay is a really troublesome term. Yeah. But yeah, I mean, our devices are listening to us.
42:58They're trying to fucking get every fucking penny out of our pockets. Yeah. But I like your, I like your perspective here that you're not opening up your wallet for much. So I'll drive. Yeah. They're good. I straight up won't go. I'll go somewhere else. I won't go to that wedding. Don't test me. I won't go to the wedding. I go to most weddings. No, Kevin, you definitely go to that wedding. Yeah. No, I mean, it is. I will say it's a little frustrating when you go on kayak and shit and you're like, what are these prices? Yeah. They're just making that shit up. Yeah. 100%. And I bet this is happening.
43:32I bet if you and I both look up flights to go to Cincinnati this weekend, I bet they're charging my ass at least double. Yeah, as they should be. So, yeah, at least the good news is they're bringing awareness to this problem. Yeah. Because it is a problem. But we'll see how far it goes. And hyper-personalization, those scumbags at Uber, those motherfuckers. Because they got us right where they want us. Well, hopefully the court of public opinion will shame these companies into being somewhat ethical. Oh, you're at a concert in fucking Giant Stadium and MetLife and you want to go home because it's Sunday night?
44:08$9 million for it. Oof. It's like the fucking motherfuckers. Is that what it costs? I mean, listen, try to get home from Jersey at fucking 11 o 'clock at night with 40 ,000 other Oasis fans and good luck. Just get on the train, dude. I know, that's what I did. That's what I'm going to do. Kevin, green eggs and ham? Who cares? Green eggs and spam. Look at this mock-up, though. Oh, you know what we didn't talk about? We didn't talk about that person that invented a Corona that goes into the sand. Oh, yeah. That only goes into sand. I don't fucking... I thought it was like some recyclability story or something that was going to sort of make the world a better place?
44:46No, it literally just is a rounded beer. Yeah, it's got a rounded triangle on the tip so you can put it in sand. Why do I want to do that? Yeah, also you shouldn't be drinking glass bottles at the beach. Also, if it's cold, it's going to get sandy as shit. Yeah, this isn't good for anybody. And also the joke online was do not shove it up your ass. It's also just a mock-up. It's just a concept drawing. How did this even become a story? This feels like such a – Well, I think it was like the don't shove it up your ass portion. That really puts some heat behind it. I guess you're right. But I like that you could put it into sand, but then you can't put it anywhere else except for up your ass.
45:27Yeah. You can't put it on a table. You can't put it on a bench. You can't put it in a recliner. Actually, maybe you could put it in a recliner. Yeah. If it had the cup holder. Yeah. It had the ER doctors in shambles on the internet. Oh, yeah. They're all worried. Yeah. A lot of the LinkedIn doctors are all worried. Yeah, the LinkedIn doctors. Yeah. I mean, listen, some things just aren't meant to be changed. And that Corona bottle. We love innovation. Did not need to exist. But yeah, Kevin, what did need to exist is Oreo and Reese's. And so if I don't have these on my desk in the next two or three weeks, Mondelez and Hershey's, you're both on watch.
46:13One last thing, actually, because I did a quick little Google. Mondelez is reportedly exploring the possibility of acquiring the Hershey Company. Let's go. Apparently, this is probably the first test in the water of these two multi-national conglomerate corporations that make snacks for the bodegas. That'll be an epic acquisition. What else? What will they do next, Kevin? That'll be an epic acquisition. I can't wait for that. Kevin, it's good to see you again. It's good to be back here on the program. Rate and review. Leave a star. Subscribe to the program. Follow us on Instagram. Sure, whatever.
46:50Or do whatever the fuck you want to do. Who are we to tell you what to do? It's fucking summer for 10 more minutes. All right. Peace, dude.
