TikTok chefs need to be stopped, except for Salt Hank. Yeah, yeah. I need a sandwich. Who's that guy that wears the Yes Chef hat? That guy. Jesus Christ. The guy who says bitch? Is that? I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, there's too many fucking chefs. And the thing that's crazy that I'm actually impressed by is they have lines. They have fucking lines. People love TikTok. People love TikTok, but why? The Dave Portnoy Pizza Festival? People paying like$300. He has a pizza festival?
0:33Yeah, dude. Here? Yeah, in New York. It wasn't in Brooklyn, but I saw there's people paying like$350, and you get pizza. Yeah, and also not in the ideal format. It's like those pizzas aren't even going to be that good. Oh, do you know what they do? They slice the pizza slices into not even a full slice. It's like a third of a pizza slice. Well, I'm into that. You can eat more slices. You can try more pizza. Well, that's the idea of it, but it's insane. The ticket prices, dude. It's the arowanification of New York City. VIP tickets are$650 to a pizza festival. What are you doing? What are you doing?
1:17That's crazy. You can literally sit at home on Uber Eats and order a pie from five of the best pizza places in the area. Here's the thing about doing that. Delivery always is worse. You think waiting – you think the pizza place is going to some random festival yard or making their best pizza? Maybe. What do you mean? They have to bring their ovens? How the fuck do they – I don't know. I don't know about the oven situation. But I would probably take a pizza festival over delivery. Over delivery? Yeah. I'm staunchly against delivery. I hear where you're coming from. I do struggle with that. My pizza place – It steams itself in the box.
1:57It's going to be floppy. yeah i guess the pizza place that i do uh order from here for nino shot them out uh they do they they have something called the no cut project are you familiar with us no uh they're trying to start a movement and the movement is they cook it halfway they don't cut it wow and then you finish it off finish it off and cut it in your house which so what now now i'm doing all the work exactly now you're putting me to fucking work yeah i ordered the pizza you know now i have to make it and cut it what are you gonna they should send a little at least a pizza slice it's a great i applaud their innovation in that field but i don't i don't know if i'm aligned on that have you ever been to um san antonio pizza pop-up it's literally right it's like a block away from you oh i have it yeah it's it's fine it's good it's a good neapolitan well everyone i feel like two years ago it was like the best pizza you get everyone allegedly what i like about the for Nina no cut project is that it's like the no cut project it feels like you're joining some sort of uh you know sort of a movement and they have it on the box so like wow they're using the boxes that's powerful messaging yeah i just don't i don't think you're gonna get a good cook on that it's honestly maybe the worst of both worlds i get it but like even what is this papa murphy's yeah the the original the sorry the regular price ticket for general admission to the dave portney one bite pizza festival is$180, which again, right.
3:22I'm, I'm, you had it at three 50 and now it's one 80. So now I'm like, kind of, it feels like a deal to me. There's two tickets, one 80 and six 50. I saw the people, the, the thing that I was really driving me up a wall was the six 50 people getting VIP tickets to Dave Portnoy one bite pizza festival. Huh? I wonder like, what is that person? I would like to meet one of those people, I guess. Yeah. I think they're the same. to study them they're the same person that uh sort of what do you get with what do you get with the vip experience yes chef let's before we shit on the vip experience we got to know what it is right i'm on the website what do you get i mean they have decent like pizza places i'll i'll give them that they got frank pepe they got i'm sure they do like i mean that's dude eating a lot of pizza like yeah i want to know what the vip thing is what do you get for the vip i guess i can't find because it already happened.
4:14But good for them. Good for him. Whatever. Yeah, if you got a VIP pass, hit us up. I'd love to learn what was so VIP.
4:29Three, two, one. Kevin. What's up? That was a nice warm up. Thanks. I see that you're wearing your Cincinnati Reds shirt just to taunt me. Absolutely. Someone actually came up to me and they asked if the sort of Mets-Reds rivalry was tearing the podcast apart. Not really. I said not really. But now that we are – we're tied, right? Yeah, we're tied, but we're not actually tied because we got the tiebreaker. You got the tiebreaker. Because we beat that ass this season. God, the Mets are doing the most Mets thing possible, which is they've been in playoff contention for months and months and months, and then they just wait to the last week to throw it all away.
5:06Another season down to drain. yeah you guys are the tiebreaker watch that tiebreaker we'll see i mean how many games do have six six six or seven oh my god probably six because nobody played yesterday or pretty much nobody played yesterday yeah we both played today i mean i guess i guess i i don't know i i i want us we'll see part of me wants us to win and get in but then i just know we're gonna be knocked out next week so it's like kind of a a lose-lose situation for the nuts they're playing They're playing so bad. But, hey, I'd be happy if the Reds got in for you, Kevin. Wow. For you. Because, listen, I root for the Bengals for you.
5:45I will root for the Reds for you. Wow. Thank you. This is a true, true friendship. It's unfortunate that the Mets and the Reds are coming down to it like this. I don't take pleasure in the fact that I would say that they're my second team. Yeah. They're my home away from home team. Yeah. And you need baseball because football is dead. Because Joe Burrow is dead. Yeah. I don't like football anymore. Yeah, football is dumb. I agree with you. I feel like we haven't done a solo app in a while, but I don't know if that's true. That is true. Since the Cracker Barrel. How long has it been? Ooh, Cracker Barrel.
6:16Maybe two, three weeks. Did you hear they went back on it? I did, yeah. Wow, yeah. Didn't see that coming. You know, you do know it's funny. We recorded the episode and then - Oh, they went back on it immediately. Like right after. Yeah, I don't know if - That wasn't funny at all, Kevin. We might have to reconsider our scheduling. Oh, okay. Because I feel like, I don't know. It just seems like all the news breaks on Tuesday afternoon. Yeah. And I think I should give a public apology to Armin for brand new. Cause I, I think I don't recall exactly what I said, but I cleaned it up. I don't think you cleaned it up, but I was, I was, I was maybe criticizing them for not.
6:50Did he say something? No, absolutely not. I'm just, you know, I'm just being, uh, I'm being honest, which is, I think on the podcast, I was like, where's the brand new piece? Well, I was standing up for him and you stood up for him and I was kind of like, you got to be on the beat. But he was right. He waited and then he saw the whole thing play out and then chimed in. Well, I think that's his method. He doesn't need to be first. He needs to be the most thorough. And to be honest. And thoughtful. It works. It played right into his hands. It played right into his hands and I was wrong. And his piece on the Cracker Barrel saga was my favorite of all the pieces on out there.
7:26People still putting out takes and videos and things on LinkedIn. But Armand's was the right one. Yeah. Yeah. shout out to armin yeah shout out to him and yeah i think it's great work i think it's i think it's smart and makes a lot of sense especially in today's world where like things everyone's reacting so quick to be the one that's like hey i'm gonna let this play out for a minute and then i'm yeah no i i think it's i think it's great and also you know he's doing bigger and better things yeah exactly and and to be honest people were freaking out last month and then and now what yeah now what now no no one gives a shit you own a cracker barrel no no i did like that they made a video i don't know if you saw this on instagram it was them like taking down the new branding from the store that's like jesus christ like alan peters had a good take about like um because i think he was talking about that new austin city rebrand did you see that oh yeah i did see that i got from a dj pentagram austin pentagram um but he was talking about how like in this climate you know a lot of the rebrands are being rejected by the public now.
8:27And it's not like the best space for people in our industry to be in. It's bad. But, you know, I guess we just got to be better. No, it's not we have to be better. It's that you might not need to react so quickly. People on the internet and then also brands on the other side. I know, but like people... Everyone's going to have an opinion. I thought that Austin rebrand was fine. It wasn't bad. It wasn't great. People are bored. They're just on the internet. that they don't have anything else to do. And this is all very good for Alan Peters Incorporated. I don't want to give us any credit for his blow-up.
9:02We do not. I feel like ever since he came on our podcast. Ever since he came on front and center, he got that boost. Now he's got a million followers. Totally unrelated, though. Honestly. Shout out to him. Let's get him back on. We should get Alan Peters back on. I've known Alan for 10-plus years. and to be honest his his success yeah his popularity online it's fire i'm so happy for him it could not have happened to a better person yeah genuinely and i i think obviously with that fame and sort of following comes a lot of criticism i think he is seemingly well suited for it i think it's it's actually quite interesting to see how much he's become part of the sort of zeitgeist in culture of design online.
9:48Another thoughtful guy. Here's the thing. He's so thoughtful, but also so talented and smart. Yeah, he's so good. And I think for me, I see a lot of people on TikTok that are making content about design that are not real practitioners of design. Now Peter has the resume, the experience. Oh, yeah. You know what I mean? So it's like, let him fix a million fucking levels. Yeah, he's a titan of industry. Exactly. And he has all the right to do that. And I understand why people are like, why do we got to fix everything? Blah, blah, blah, blah. It's like, yes, I get it. But he's just making content.
10:19He's having fun with it. And I'm happy for him. Yeah. Let the guy make some content. Let the guy cook. Let Alan cook. Speaking of cooking, we have a new brand out. It's called Sperm Club. It's called Swim Club. It's a sperm health brand. And check it out. Yeah. It's very cool. Yeah. Get your sperm count up, Kevin. Yeah. Make your sperm count. Make your sperm count. Yeah. No, we did that branding project earlier this year. Is that this year? It was fun. It was a dream come true. I get to write about sperm and such. Yeah, yeah. So many jokes. So many jokes were made. You should see the deep cut.
10:52This is why we need a paywall, Alex. Wow. You should go and read. We should do one episode of you doing a brain dump of all your sperm count and sperm jokes. I got like 50 pages that didn't get used. Yeah, yeah. Sperm health is a hot topic. And shout out to Andrea because she is on the front lines, obviously Snackshot. She is sort of the queen of industry, speaking of industry. And she was the one that broke it to me that our brand launched. Yeah. So she's ahead of me. Yeah. She's really on the bleeding edge of this CPG type shit. Yeah. And it's not even – it's CPG. It's really a performance health brand.
11:30It's not a snack or beverage. But she's on it. And she's on the fucking case. And it's cool. Thank you, Andrea. Yeah. Big month for sperm too. Big month for sperm. sperm gummies launched as well yeah sperm worms yeah yeah kind of a fire brand too yeah it's the great sperm race yeah uh the between us and them i guess as far as brands go they already have the sperm race that's true so why don't we why don't we why don't we compete with the regimens yeah yeah i mean sperm health is hot so hot right now that's the thing you know what else is hot soda kevin uh shout out to the good folks at gander uh one of my personal favorite episodes of this podcast if you haven't listened go listen to the gander episode right now stop this episode and just go back and listen to that one because it's so good they launched a brand today with ben stiller yeah it's called stiller it's great i love the uh piece of content that came with it very zoolander oh yeah yeah yeah i mean ben stiller is just he was born to hawk products i think that's the thing that i've learned and uh soda of course is uh you know it's a new emerging trend yeah but The design looks awesome.
12:38The commercials are great. I ordered variety pack. I want to try it. I want to try the Shirley Temple, the root beer. Are we going to try it on the show? Yeah, why not? It's a write-off, Kevin. We can try whatever we want to try. Speaking of, do you want to try? Kevin, put that in. Put it in as a sort of a reimbursement. Yeah, fuck yeah. What do you mean? Kevin, this podcast, we can... We're making so much money with this podcast, Kevin. Oh my gosh. You can write off as many snacks as you want. I'm just going to pretend to try it. I've already tried these. Do you want to do it now or do you want to talk about it in a second?
13:11I don't know. Whatever feels right. Let's do it right now. Kevin is talking about the collaboration between Oreos and Reese's, two titans of industry. That's what this episode is titled. Oh, I guess you want to set it up. I guess there was some stuff that... Oh, okay. Kevin went on a really long bike ride. I did go on a really long bike ride. Do you want to talk about it? No. 106 miles. No big deal. 106. You know, I'm not the only guy in this podcast who likes fitness. Oh. Anyway, you know, we made it to Montauk. Shout out to the Montauk 7-Eleven. That place is fire. The epicenter of that town or whatever the hell it is.
13:48Yep. It is a town. We ended up chilling there for quite a while, like 20 minutes. Yeah. Got water. Emptied our bladders. Wow. Got snacks. All the good stuff. And I saw that they had the Reese's Oreos. and in the cup forms. So on our way back pre-train, I snagged two. Thank you, Kevin. Content. Yeah. Thinking about the content. Content brand, dude. Yeah. Never stops. Never stops. And then I had... Did you get a lobster roll? I did get a lobster roll. Okay, good. I wanted to make sure that you didn't go all the way to Montauk and just go to 7-Eleven because it's a great 7-Eleven. Yeah. It has its own merch.
14:26That's how great this 7-Eleven is. Yeah, the merch is pretty fire. The merch is fire. Now I get why. Yeah. no it is it's worth it it's got to be the one of the best 7-elevens it's by far the best best 7-eleven on the east coast for sure it's the best 7-eleven on planet earth as far as i'm concerned all right uh when i was there a couple weeks ago the merch was also that but i did get two towels okay that's good which i really like actually because they come in the sort of 7-eleven colors yeah and it makes me really appreciate how uh interesting that color palette is of 7-eleven with the green and the yellow and it really works it's really beautiful it's so iconic yeah i mean i think that they're doing a great job with all their like merch extensions 7-eleven you know they worked with uh jimarchez shadow jimarchez oh shout out always always open yeah of course i got the shirt oh yeah 7-eleven great brand and uh yeah bang our line we'd love to do something together yeah but no i picked uh picked these up at 7-eleven i ate some on sunday while i was sitting on the couch recovering uh in shambles both physically and mentally i was gonna say 106 miles how bad did your body hurt the next day honestly it wasn't that bad okay um the bike you were doing on did not look like a bike that was maybe meant to go 106 it's meant to go 106 miles okay people tore on those all the time okay so there you go shows how much i know about biking yeah i've already i've already tried these uh so i'm gonna i'm gonna abstain okay wow i don't want to i well you don't want to ruin your appetite well i just don't want it i just don't want a bunch of sugar to be the first thing i eat yeah i was gonna say i've only had coffee and water but you Coffee and water.
15:57But no, and then I went to Target last night and got both varieties. For the people that listen to the podcast, we talked about this a couple of months ago, I guess a couple of weeks ago, whenever it came out. The big collaboration between Reese's and Oreos. The home and away game of snacks where they have two collaborations. One that is more Reese's than Oreo and one that's more Oreo than Reese's. And we have them both finally to try. I am going to have this. uh the time is 11 17 a.m so breakfast is now served and uh yeah on first look it's it's it looks like an oreo that has white chocolate on top oh yeah then on the inside it's about it's it's it's reese's filling but then has like little crunches kind of reminds me of like you know that sort of uh hershey's cookies and cream bar that's exactly what it is okay that's what i'm expecting let me try it's so good it's so good but it's so sweet yeah i mean i think this is a job well done i don't taste a ton of oreo i know it's got the little crunch inside of it well i don't go back in for some more the i i found that the uh the crunch was maybe not consistent you know how could it be it's probably a hard thing to produce we also should talk about how good the packaging is yeah the packaging is the colors go to go together so well granted these this is my favorite color palette the orange and blue but these are also my two favorite snacks reese's and oreos just wait until you uh wait until you open see the interior packaging of the uh oreo reese's
17:31so delicious really good definitely tastes more like a reese's than an oreo i'll be honest oh yeah that's why it's reese's oreo that's why it comes first and then you got the oreo reese's i will be sick from this but this is um worth it for the for the pod and for the people outside the packaging on the oreo um uh sort of forward one is quite nice i think this sort of split band is quite well done my only beef with is the oreo has this like big fake shadow on it yeah it doesn't look proper and it kind of looks off in terms of its like um it's it's realism and then it also just like at first glance kind of looks like what oil would look like if it yeah um sort of like uh seeped through the packaging yeah uh shout out magic spoon i was gonna say magic spoon uh because that's they're famous for that oil uh that's they might have they might i'm sure they've corrected that in the five years oh this inside is really pretty really nice kevin this is what you're referring to that's what i was referring to wow interesting yeah i guess i hadn't really considered that's a really smart insight i think whoever the designer is on this that Oreo and Reese's both have a scalloped circular edge.
18:42Wow. They do have that in common. Wow. When you think about their brand identity assets. This is the type of analysis you can't get anywhere else. And blue and orange, in the overlap, they kind of create this brown. Yeah, both have brown. Both have chocolate. So listen, shout out to Graphic Design. Whoever did this did a nice job. Two iconic brands coming together. I like how the main message on the inside contains peanut wheat soy. This unit is not labeled for retail. I guess it looks so beautiful that someone would potentially just put this on their shelves. That's ruining the aesthetic here.
19:18We can't put that on the back. Hey, I don't make the rules here. Okay. I'm going to eat this, but we probably should move on. Or actually, okay, we'll hang here for a minute. We have a little discussion. So have you tried these too, Kevin? Oh my God. I had them with milk last night, which is probably the superior way to do it. Yeah, we're talking about sort of uncrustables and peanut butter and jelly before the show, and you were saying that you like a peanut butter and jelly with milk. I am just Oreos and milk or cookies. Not at the bodega. I'm going to get Tate's or Oreos. I'm going to get some milk.
19:49You have to. Okay. So upon first review, it looks like an Oreo. The inside is peanut butter. That's what it is. Well, as I'm are.
20:05that's really good yeah what do you do you have uh do you have any hot takes what would you prefer here hmm i think i think i prefer the reese's oreo combination but i feel like these like i think i like this better but it's novelty like i'm not gonna yeah i'm not gonna get this again like i i think i like the taste of it but i would never like come back and like be like oh yeah let me get that one again i feel like this is this could stay in the rotation 100 and i feel like this is like i it almost tastes like it exists i've had this before that's the kind of thing that's like maybe it's like another butter thing where it's like i've had some nutter butters and then oreos and it just feels like it it feels familiar yeah i completely agree i i loved the novelty of the reese's oreo cup um i thought that you know in my uh in my distraught state on sunday uh those really lifted me up and you know i was i was greatly enjoying them i think we threw them in the fridge for a second got them nice and crisp even better but i generally thought that it was perhaps doing too much it is too much yeah like i i preferred the simplicity and the you know just straightforwardness of the Oreo Reese's.
21:25I think that's what we said when we first reviewed them. We were like, oh, this Reese's is like very complicated and the purity of the Oreo with peanut butter on the inside is more what we would kind of want from these two brands. Yeah. Known for sort of, you know, being iconic titans of industry. Yeah, I agree with you. The Oreo feels more repurchasable or more like if these are sitting in my counter or sitting here in the studio in a couple of days, I might find my way back to them. versus these where this is very novelty. Yeah. I wonder if they'll keep running this because it seems like, I mean, there's just two, again, Titans of Industry.
22:00I don't see a reason why they would not keep running this. Yeah. Both products are very good. Yeah. I think when we say like, you know. The best. Well, no, like even these, even like the Reese's Oreos, it's like. Yeah. You think these will be on shelves in a year? I think they probably could be. I don't know if I would necessarily buy them again, but i'm sure people out there would i mean there are people who like the uh cookies and cream hershey bars which and there's people who likes you know regular reese's cups and you know i feel like if i was 12 years old i'd be eating the fuck out of these yeah the hershey's cookies and cream bar it's like who goes to the bodega and buys that i mean i've had it i've had it of course it's kind of nasty it's really kind of in my adult years i think it's kind of gross yeah yeah i've had it before i've enjoyed it yeah i mean it's it's it's a solid candy i just feel like with so many better options out there speaking of uh my wife went to my wife went to a sort of a conference or whatever with fast company and she came home with three or so tony's chuckoloni's full-size bars and talk about something that you don't want in your house because every night I'm just like breaking off a little piece of that Tony Shaglone.
23:20There's one new flavor that they actually have, and it's all of the ingredients. I'm not aligned with that. I think you should try it. I'll keep it up in mind here. Yeah. I mean, listen, I like the almond, the pretzel, the sea salt individually, but then you put them all in one. It's everything but the kitchen sink situation over there at Tony's, And the people over there at Tony's are doing the Lord's work. They are doing great stuff. One thing we should also talk about is it's Tony's Chocolonely. Did you see that? No. Online, they talked about the Mandala effect or whatever. Where people call it Tony's Chocolonely because that would make sense.
24:03It's a better name. But the actual name on the packaging, look it up right now, is Tony's Chocolonely. Huh. How about that? Which is a terrible name. and I feel like no one should want to feel lonely and it just kind of, it just makes me, yeah. It's always been there. It's one of those things like objects in mirror appear closer than they appear or something like that. You just, I'm just Mr. Choc-a-lonely. I'm so lonely, Mr. Choc-a-lonely. Speaking of songs from the early 2000s, should we talk about apple bottom jeans? Sure. So Nelly, the recording artist from St. Louis, did a collaboration with Bubbly, the sparkling water brand from Pepsi.
24:48And they are doing a collaboration with Apple Bottoms, Apple Flavor. It's also like the Oreos Reese's in that they're doing a cross collaboration where they have an apple flavored water and then Bubbly Jeans. Yeah, I learned something. What did you learn? I learned that the Apple Bottom Jeans is Nelly's brand. I had no idea. Really? I had no clue. What do you think? He was just singing about just like apple bottoms in jeans? Well, the famous song is the Flo Rida. You know, Flo. Yeah. Shorty had them apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur. Okay. That's not a Nelly song. It's Flo Rida. Oh, wow. So you're really schooling me here, Kevin.
25:29Not to say I thought it was Flo Rida's jean company, but I had no idea that it was Nelly's jean company. And I'm kind of shocked that Nelly is in any position for a brand collaboration. Yeah. I would, you know, he caught some heat for being at the inauguration or performing at the inauguration or whatever. I forgot about that. And he's been catching heat for other bad things. I believe. Allegedly. Really? Allegedly. I think there's been some lawsuits. I don't know. You know, I'm not a lawyer. I'm not a legal expert. I don't know how these things panned out. Really? But there were some not good things.
26:05Wow. But all that to say. Nelly. I love Nelly's music. It's the first rap I ever heard. 2001 in my brother's Honda Civic. We were listening to St. Lunatics. Okay. No, sorry. Country Grammar. Yeah. And yeah, I've loved Nelly ever since. My first time ever in New York, I had the Nellyville CD in there. It was cranking that. Holy shit. Oh, so good. Yeah. But I'm a huge, huge fan of Nelly's music. I, as well, also am a big Nelly fan. Country Grammar came out in 2000. That was the song of the summer. Everyone's talking about, what's the song of the summer? No song of the summer will ever be that song of the summer like Country Grammar was in 2000.
26:55That was a fucking bona fide smash. And yeah, I'm not going to take Nelly's side because I had forgotten about all his potential challenging politics. But all I will say is I'm happy to see a denim soda. Yeah. I'm happy to see Joda. Joda has made its way to the market. Again, Joda's back. Joda is fully back. Damn, I didn't even put two and two together. I think that to me was the thing that I was just like – Look, you got Joda behind you. Yeah, we famously talked about Joda in the past when Kate Moss partnered with Diet Coke to create the first ever gene soda. And now this is a fully. Is this Joda or is this Jeltzer?
27:40This is Jeltzer. Jeltzer, yeah, because it's sparkling water. Yeah, you're right. Jarkling water. Yeah, this is Jeltzer. I love to see it. There should be more textures on cans. Minimalism be gone. It's time for more jean products. And if you don't mind separating the art from the artist here real quick and focusing on the design of this collaboration, it's pretty fire. I mean, this key image with the apple bottom jeans. Yeah. It's great. Pretty sick. Yeah, you got the apple pockets. Yeah, apple bubbly even. Yeah, the green really pops. That neon green really pops on the denim, which I really appreciate.
28:24And yeah, Joda. I love anything Jean textured. Yep. Let's keep hammering this. Yes. Please. Shout out to Nelly. He's back. Nelly is back. Yeah, I think they were trying to be cheeky, I think, both with the jeans and also with the denim soda. Hell yeah. So I think maybe they're listeners of the podcast, Kevin. Maybe they know how much we love Joda, how much we love Jean textured things. So shout out to Nelly. please put country grammar at the end of this episode all right sure because it is the best song ever recorded kevin a big news for you uh coming out of new york city this week kith is bringing erwan to new york city in the form of kith ivy a padel brand and club where competition and community collide allegedly it's going to cost 36 000 in annual fees but you get access to the members only club the pedal court the first erwan location outside of los angeles cafe mogador from williamsburg a full service gerger uh georgio armani spa and of course a gym there's no set date but it's uh gonna open up this fall which technically i think it's fall right now yeah i think if we're going by the letter of the law it is fall um yeah what are you are you gonna are you joining um absolutely not what if we can we get like a studio uh yeah a studio membership i think uh i think that would only work for one of us i believe i believe that's how members only clubs work i've been seeing a lot of members only club uh conversation online i'm just gonna say it i hate members only clubs i hate them i just fucking don't want to be a part of any of them there's enough good shit that it's for everybody we don't need to make these exclusive places Yeah, well, where are you going to play a lamer pickleball?
30:14Paddle with walls? Pickleball with walls? I think it's just, Kevin, you got to call it Paddle. That's the way. Paddle? No, it's Paddle. I'm going to call it Paddle. Yeah, yeah. We have a quote from the one and only Ronnie Feig. Oh, he was going off. Firstly, the Kith Ivy Club in New York is our most holistic entry into hospitality, expanding outside of dining into true lifestyle services, sports, and wellness, and product. In parallel and equally important, Kith Ivy is a new brand for us, focused on the aesthetic coalescing around the sport of Padel. I saw it as an intriguing opportunity to help redefine what a relatively newly adopted sport could look like.
30:52These are just some of my least favorite words. Padel, Kith, members only, lifestyle, services. This is disgusting. Gross. Just gross. Just absolutely disgusting all of it this is rich people shit and and and not rich people with taste rich people with bad taste yeah you got bad taste if you play in padeo i really sorry i i i just struggle with all of this i don't know that i i don't know if you're a rich dickhead with bad taste then this is the spot for you but i and here's the thing i will say respect to ronnie feek like what he has built is absolutely incredible i remember when he was just like doing collaborations with like Red Wing and making some shoes for Sperry and stuff like that.

31:37This man has built a billion dollar business, a brand that is worldwide at the level of Nike and Supreme. And that is no small feat. I am absolutely not taking anything away from Ronnie Feig. Am I jealous that he's the Knicks creative director? Of course. But at the end of the day, Ronnie has done something absolutely extraordinarily impressive. but it is also a punching bag for people to criticize yep and kith ivy is is is maybe the most punchable of all of his offenses yeah i was scrolling through the collection yesterday and i don't know i mean some of the things were kind of looking intriguing but at the end of the day it was like 320 for a pair of shorts i don't know i don't yeah i don't know about that chief i'm not buying.
32:30I also don't love the branding. We are a design podcast, so I could talk about that. I don't think the Keith Ivy brand feels incredibly exciting or well-crafted. People saying he lost his edge. Yeah, lost his edge. Yeah, right. Yeah. I mean, listen, it's funny. The interesting story here, one of the things is Erewhon opening up in New York, which is interesting but this is not an Erewhon. Erewhon is a grocery store. This is just a smoothie. It's just a tonic bar. Yeah, it's a smoothie making shop. It's like one small part of the larger Erewhon. I don't even believe that you can get in unless you're a member.
33:09But don't worry, Alex. We can still Uber Eats our smoothies. I did see that. Non-members are allowed to sort of order a Postmates or Uber Eats within a select radius. I hope I can get my Haley Beaver smoothie. There's no way. You don't think they're going to bring it to Greenpoint for me? Absolutely not. I don't think they're going to bring it to Greenpoint. And let's just say there's a man on the streets. We were talking about cycling earlier. I see a lot of Uber Eats delivery cyclists, e-bikers trouncing around the city. I don't think that smoothie is arriving, not spilled. I don't know if you're going to be able to drink the smoothie.
33:51you bring up a good it's gonna be spilled over the driver's bag i as someone who orders a lot of uber eats and seamless do you ever do beverages i have done beverages and i'll be honest with you that's devious i'm impressed by the um the the manner and well i'm sure i'm sure they have i'm sure the modern technology allows them to do it you know what they do kevin what they tape it up they tape it up yeah that's the modern technology of tape is what they use and yeah i uh i don't know that we need this. I just think that's what I'll say about everything. The Giorgio Amani Spa, the sort of the Erewhon Tonic Bar, the Padale Members Only Club.
34:30I just, we don't need this. We really just - Cafe Mogador with the dress code, the by arrival dress code, vibes dress code. I was going to say the one thing that sticks out to me from this whole thing is Cafe Mogador. As a citizen of Williamsburg for over 10 years, I've been to Cafe Mogador many, many times. It is a delicious Middle Eastern restaurant with delicious, incredible, fine quality food. Why are they the one of all the restaurants in New York to be at the Kith Ivy members only club? Cafe Mogador is fine. It's really good, but it does not fit into this aesthetic and this sort of luxury lifestyle.
35:14I feel like they would be better off. I mean, typically, Kit does the major food group Carbone, Canna Cedales thing. That's their thing. So this is the approachable Middle Eastern restaurant at the Kit Ivy Club from Williamsburg, which it's a staple. It's been there for many years, and it's hard to get into on Sundays if you want to go for brunch. So listen, I get it. Part of your membership gets you some pita and some delicious dips. Yeah,$36 ,000 a year and you're still going to have to pay$15 for a dang smoothie. And$20 for some pita and dips. Yeah, I have a hard time with that. I mean, to be honest,$3 ,000 a month for this consumer doesn't feel insane.
35:55But you probably are better off just joining an Equinox, right? Because you're probably going to get this outside of the Padel core. But there are some really nice equinoxes in New York City that have like basketball courts and stuff. Real sports. Yeah. Exactly. They got a lifetime fitness now in Barclays. Really? Yeah. I would like to be a member of – because I would like to be a member of a gym that has a pool and a basketball court. I think that would be really nice. That would be cool. You could go to the YMCA. I know. I'm thinking about it actually because I just – I'm trying to swim. But hey, Kevin, you also brought to my attention that there's a drugstore named Drugstore that is sort of trying to pull an Erewhon kind of move.
36:34They're selling water for five bucks. Yeah, I saw this. Shout out, Andrea. Yeah. Always, always shout out to her. We form a lot of topics from her and, you know, just go check her out. I'm sure you know her. Yeah. But yeah, they're selling water for five bucks. Is that that much money, Kevin? Five dollars? I feel like in this economy. How much do you think a fucking tall smart water costs? Five bucks? Yeah, five bucks. I don't know. People are getting all riled up. I mean, it is just a plastic cup of water. I was going to say, I think it's the cup. It's probably just tap water. I think it's the cup that really is throwing people off because, yeah, it just looks like a coffee cup that you would get from sort of a cafe with a sticker on the side.
37:11Your take was, what the hell is drugstore? I don't know. Yeah. I tried to find out. I looked it up on Google Maps. All it was showing was CVS and Dwayne Reed. Yeah, no. It's a terrible name for a drugstore. Horrible name. Speaking of design studio, the design studio named Design Studio is no longer named Design Studio. Did they pivot? Are they not a design studio anymore? I don't actually believe they're just a design studio anymore. They're now called Further. Oh, so they're doing more. And so they're doing more than just design. Ever expanding. I believe they partnered with another agency or something like 3D, similar to Combo, where they're sort of, they're joining forces with some other agency.
37:47Well, I mean, that makes sense. And so I guess Design Studio didn't fit because they're no longer a design studio. Because they do more. Yeah. Their website said something about how design is going to be automated in the future. I didn't love that. Sure, whatever. Yeah, sure, fine, whatever. I always thought a design studio named Design Studio was so bad that it was great. Yeah. You know what I mean? I always liked the name as well. Yeah, I kind of always loved it. And then they've built a reputation as a really reputable design studio. Definitely. Airbnb and Champions League. They've done lots of really awesome design work out of Design Studio.
38:24Absolutely. But Design Studio, no longer Design Studio named Design Studio further. Yeah. You kind of hate to see, you hate to lose that name in the industry. Just, I liked the name. I thought it was, you know, again. Available for the taking. I probably... You know, it was just so brick to forehead, you know, as all the business people are saying these days. There's a lot of bricks being met with foreheads around these parts. I've noticed that here at Center. We're very brick to forehead. But good for them. I mean, expand past what you thought was possible. I will say, if you just spent 10 years with a somewhat generic name for Design Studio, Design Studio, I don't know that further is that much more ownable.
39:07It's further. But I feel like it doesn't feel that ownable coming from the guy named Center with the Design Studio. Yeah, I mean, you own that. but like I mean how important really is the name for a studio I don't know I would argue that maybe not that important it's probably less important than the work you're probably right but they do great work so they do great work I think the identity felt quite music band gothic that was the energy I was getting from the new aesthetic of further so it felt felt different very different it's like a hard pivot from what design studio was which was like a straightaway classic design Sure.
39:47So I think it's not a refresh. It's a rebrand, Kevin. It's a revolution, not an evolution. They're going on over there. I mean, they definitely are. It sounds like they are doing a revolution. Yeah. No, good for them. Happy for them. Good people, though. I have spent some time with them. Before we get out of here, we should talk about how the same person that bought LimeWire's IP is the person that bought the Fyre Festival IP. We've talked about that many times on this show. Fyre Festival, one of our favorite brands. Yeah, we didn't know who bought it. And yeah, it was announced that someone had bought it, right?
40:18Because that was the whole thing. Billy put up an auction and that was, was it eBay? Yeah, it was eBay. And I believe he was a little disappointed at the final number. It's funny that he said that. It is funny he said that because I felt the same way, especially when I saw who bought it. Like the LimeWire guy paid$245 ,300. How much money did you think you were going to get, Billy? I don't know. I mean, I think that's kind of low to be honest. It is low, especially when you have like$15 million to pay in restitution to all the people that you fucked over. Yeah. But, you know, Billy will land on his feet.
40:52That's the thing about our boy Billy. He always lands on his feet. Oh, he's got another scam right up his sleeve. Yeah, it's interesting. It's not a scam opportunity. Oh, opportunity. Yeah, big opportunity for making money. Yeah, I think this is intriguing because they haven't exactly done gangbusters with LimeWire. I think the last I heard of LimeWire, they had turned it into an NFT platform, which... Remember NFTs, Kevin? I do. Yeah. You still bullish on Bored Apes? 100%. Bored Apes are coming back, 100%. Yeah. Big, big Bored Apes. 2026. I'm getting paid in Bored Apes. Yeah. Big comeback for Bored Apes.
41:31Big comeback for NFTs. And so, yeah, they haven't exactly turned LimeWire into something special. so here they are the same people now trying to take fire festival and well give it new i think with the thing with limelight is they tried to make it an nft platform and then they were like yeah people don't people don't care like you need to kind of stay close into what the original software or brand did music so music i do believe that they're like a file sharing platform okay they are back to being a file sharing platform okay so good and they always you know they had the equity they got the lime logo yeah i said this uh pre-show but um you know fire festival devastated the expectations of the people who bought tickets limewire devastated uh people's computers our home computers yeah yeah yeah two brands known for fucking shit up i think just about everyone i know uh fucked up a computer forced their parents to probably get a new computer because of viruses because of the viruses obtained yep by pirating music on LimeWire.
42:36But you had to get that Lil Wayne, Drake, Eminem, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears collaboration song. You know how many times I tried to download the Kanye West song Heartless? Way too many. Wow, wow, wow. It was a heartbreak for Kevin. Yeah. I don't know how this is going to go. I don't know what they're going to do with Fyre Festival. Can someone launch a fucking festival with this goddamn brand already? at this point, what are we doing here? Based on what this guy is saying, it sounds like they will have a festival. And I think it'll be fire. I think it'll be good. Unintended. The only thing worse than this whole thing is that Ryan Reynolds somehow got involved.
43:15Oh, he was the... First off, it came out that he lost the bidding. He was the runner-up. How much money does Ryan Reynolds have? That guy is printing cash. He can't fucking shell out $250 ,000 for the fire festival IP? Ryan Reynolds sounds so broke right now. He lost the Fyre Festival auction. Yeah. To some random guy that owns the fucking LimeWire IP? Yeah. Ryan Reynolds lost to the LimeWire guy. That's embarrassing for you, Ryan Reynolds. You should be horrified. And also, you shouldn't put that out there. You shouldn't say that you came in second place. Yeah. You've had so much business success.
43:51Yeah. That's a huge L, dude. Yeah. You took a giant L and the winner took a giant L as well. This was a lose situation and you somehow lost. I don't know. 245k is not that bad but you have now have to launch fire festival you have to try to make that money back somehow i don't know i've been saying this i would do a great job i could say listen banger line we're here i i just want to see someone launch a festival like is that too much for me to ask and and again just keep it small make it a fucking uh 500 person thing in in williamsburg every tiktoker is doing a fucking food festival every saturday it shouldn't be that hard.
44:28Yeah, it shouldn't be that goddamn hard. You just get a couple vendors, you get a couple music acts, and you have a festival. Yeah. Right? Just do it. Just do a small one, and then maybe a bigger one, and then maybe bigger. You don't have to do this island fucking festival. If you call it Fyre Fest, I bet more than 500 people show up just to get merch. The merch is going to go crazy. Exactly. And then Ryan Reynolds is just absolutely the worst. I don't know. What does he get out of saying that he was involved in something like, or just saying that he lost? Yeah, he was involved, he lost, and then he went and made a Visa ad about Fyre Festival.
45:03Yeah, yeah. Like six or seven years post Fyre Fest? Yeah, so Ryan Reynolds had a statement, I look forward to attending their first event, but I'll be bringing my own pallet of water. Great joke, Ryan. The worst. Great joke. Just the absolute worst. And then, Kevin, you pointed me in the direction of this new ad for Visa by Maximum Effort, which is Ryan Reynolds' creative shop. and I really didn't want to watch it, but you forced me to and it was 30 seconds long and it was so bad. It's just so terrible. It's, yeah, like you said, an eight-year-old dated reference at this point and talks about basically you can get away from a festival on an island if you have visa, which it's like, yeah, like people didn't die in that festival.
45:50They just got, their expectations weren't met. like the way that it's visualized is is so cheesy his voice just makes me want to just fucking rip my hair out it's bad bad bad yeah bad and certainly you'll be able to pay i mean the whole thing of the the whole theme of the ad is like they get off the island because uh this visa this guy with a boat uh has a a square that accepts credit cards great yeah yeah good for him definitely uh before we get out of here kevin i will say there is a really good ad running and it's by nike and uh we have to shout it out we don't talk about advertising a ton in here but uh why didn't kennedy out of portland does it's it's called why do it and it's it's it's what i love about advertising it's an anthemic sort of multi-sport multi-athlete it just tugs at the heartstrings for the kids something for the kids feels good there's been a lot of talk about nike's downfall nike's not doing well nike blah blah blah and like oh god this ad i was just like this is this is advertising man this is this is what i love about so powerful so powerful and then that big it's like why do it why do it why do it's a flip on the just do it in the end big red just do it yeah no it's fire i like it i'm a fan and uh you said you haven't seen it but have you been watching football then i don't watch red zone kevin there's a there's a very limited commercials Yeah, there's a NFL ad with the Rizzler, and he's a Giants fan.
47:20The Rizzler, still back at it. Yeah, he's still killing it. I love that little kid, a little chubby kid. Yeah, what a legend. What an absolute legend. I hope he's – whatever happened to the Costco boys? They're still at it, too. They're still at it? Still giving out booms? Yeah. They made a video about Scataboom. Oh, get out of here. Okay, so we're just a giant. I guess they're all Giants fans. We're just local mascots now for the team? I mean, that feels right, I guess. I mean, New Yorkers. Are they from Jersey? Are they not? I think, I believe that the Costco guys live in Florida by way of the New York area.
47:57Probably New Jersey. Those are New Yorkers. I know a New Yorker when I see them. Is the Rizzler a New Yorker? Yeah, he's Jersey. Okay, good. Okay, good. Tri-state area. Boom. I love those kids. I'm happy for them. Happy for the Rizzler. Also, so Arizona's going to finally release the Rizzleberry flavor. about time yeah we've been waiting don't uh don't tease us on april fool's day it was an april fool's day bid and now they're going for the uh it's probably because of us we spoke out so uh negatively about being strung along yeah no how dare you put the rizzler on the packaging and not give it to the people we need that we need we need it uh that's the show today uh kevin always of butter.
48:33Nice. All right. Hit me with that Nelly.
