0:00All right, let me just down this coffee real quick. dude i need a coffee no talking before coffee that's the rules of engagement here i had a hot coffee and i had like a half of iced coffee and i just feel like i said to myself i need to be high energy on this program today that's the thing we're bringing high energy high performance high energy show absolutely and then and then i didn't give myself the right fuel how am i supposed to bring the energy if i don't have the fucking coffee why don't you go do we not have something down no we don't have cold brew damn nothing we got nothing the fucking fridge man Yeah, damn.

0:32That's actually, that's probably on me. It's a major problem. I think I'm the one who's ordering stuff now. I'll put a fresh erect in for you guys today. Oh, thank you, Kevin. I really appreciate that. That's so nice of you.

0:49Three, two, one. Kevin! You are so wild. Holy shit. Hey, man. Well, we're doing it remotely. What do you want? I don't know. We're on the Riverside. Yeah, we are. I bring the energy. Yeah, shout out to Riverside. Give us a deal. Yeah, yeah. Well, if you were in the office, Kevin, we wouldn't be using these type of programs here. Well, I got to do what I got to do. You're reporting live from the Mile High City. How's the breathing, Kevin? Pretty good. I had no issues. I mean, I went pretty hard this weekend. I was on the slopes at high elevation, hiking, skiing, doing all the good stuff, schlepping my skis up mountains, finding good snow.

1:37It was awesome. I'm having a great time. Beautiful weather. I had two powders. Excellent. Kevin, I think we need to have an intervention for your skiing. It's practically summer at this point, my guy. This is too much. I see you on Instagram. You're throwing yourself off of mountains. What are we doing here, Kevin? What are we hiding from? I'm chasing the shred, dude. You know, they say that people in Denver are either running from something or hiding something. So which one is it, Kevin? I'm running towards the mountains. I'm just too stoked. Pretty sure it's my flow state, you know? I'm just out there just ripping turns, trying not to die, going fast.

2:14It's all good stuff. I'm not worried about anything else when I'm out there. It's a sick hobby. I'm happy about it. I'm happy I found it. It's very fulfilling for me. I'm a big sicko about it. It's not a problem because it's fucking awesome, but I'm a huge sicko. I would probably empty my entire bank account on that. That's great. I'm in sicko mode. I'm in sicko mode, dude. You know what it's a problem for? Our podcast, Kevin. You know the show that we do every week, Front and Center? We have a hit podcast to run, Kevin. What are you talking about? We're doing it right now. The numbers are going crazy.

2:46Shout out to all the new fans, first and foremost. It's our time, maybe. We're literally doing the podcast right now. I know, but Kevin, it's our time. It's our time. We've been working on this craft and doing these podcasts for, what, four years now? And, you know, the time has come. It's our time, Kevin. So I need you in – I need all of your arms and limbs and everything to be working, Kevin. I know you can – You know, I just – I need you. I care about you is really what this is about, Kevin. I'm concerned. So you care about me so you don't want me to do the thing that I love? No, I want you to do the thing that you love, but maybe on the weekends so that we could do our hit podcast here in the studio together in person.

3:29But no, I'm happy for you. I'm glad you have something that you love. And listen, you're happy. I'm happy. And the podcast is doing well, so I'm happy. And all I had to do was lose 60 pounds and get hot. So it's time to blow up. And you got to get home, Kevin. Come home. The kids miss you. Well, I'll be home soon. So yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm excited about it. I've still got more shred. So yeah. I mean, it's still alive out here. Dude, it's fucking April. Like, come on. The shred is. You can go till June out here. No, Jesus Christ. Kevin, White Lotus is the best show on TV and it's not even close.

4:10And I'm glad to hear. It is close. Severance is close. Severance is close. But you know what? I know that White Lotus is the best show on TV? Why? It's a scientific method that I'm using called how close do I watch the show to the release date in time. Because if I'm watching a show the same hour it's put on streaming, then you know it's great. And that's what's happening on White Lotus. I'm actually looking at the time and being like, ooh, it's on in 10 minutes. And that's how I know that show is fire. also the characters the plot the cinematography the the fucking women the brothers are you like what this show is incredible like and i'm sorry like i always say that things are good not great that's my kind of bit around here this is great i'm gonna give it flowers yeah i'm with it i'm uh you know things are happening i'm happy um it was a lot of build up but worth it i'll say you know i I think the storyline with the three women is going to pop next episode.

5:09Who knows? I'm thinking one of them goes missing. Really? Really? Yeah. It's probably the one with the Bob. I don't know what her name is. There's a lot of characters. I'm having trouble keeping track of their names. Yeah, I don't know their names. That's fair. I don't know. All I know is Lalisa. That's not her name. That's just who she is in Blackpink. But no, it's a great show. and I, I, the Sam Rockwell cameo, come on. Like that was, that was like a fucking Mike White is a sicko. Talk about sickos, Kevin. You're a sicko. He's a sicko. And I am, I'm, I'm here for it. And the show, yeah, I only two more episodes left.

5:49Kevin, you know what I asked you? Yeah. Did you Google that? No, at the end they did this sort of like next week on and they did this sort of like only two episodes left. So yeah, I had a feeling it was coming to an end. I think it's, it's, it's about time, But I'm going to miss it, and I'm going to miss Severance because I watched three episodes over the weekend, and so I got three more to go. So I'm getting there, and I was hating, but the show was also great. I just need – yeah, and I just needed to be mentally in the right place for it. Yeah. Honestly, I would take Severance over White Lotus.

6:19Yeah. No, I mean I think – Both good. Both good. We don't need to pit them against each other. They're totally different shows. and what I was watching both of them this weekend, I was thinking it's going to suck in like two months when we have neither of these shows. Because I'm in glory days right now with these two programs, having them both. Hey, but what? Baseball? Well, yeah. I mean, yeah, it's almost spring. But it's, you know, I just think severance, I need to be mentally like awake. I think that's the thing that like I realized this weekend. It's like, I can't watch a show before like, or after 9pm.

6:54Like I just I need to be fully caffeinated I need to, my eyes need to be open. Sun needs to be on, uh, you know, or outside. Like I can't do it at nighttime, right before I'm going to bed. Like I'm just gonna, I'm just gonna get bored. I'm going to go to sleep. And so I can't, I can't do it. Yeah. For me, um, you know, talking about like a mark of a good show, severance is one of those where, you know, right after the season, I'll probably just, you know, run it back. Really? I'll probably just run it back. Um, I mean, a lot of the, it's pretty dense. Like there's a lot of, there's a lot of stuff to get through.

7:24And there's a lot of nerds on the internet freaking out about the literary references and yada, yada, yada. I'm not so much into that, but - Can I go on the record there? I got to take. I got to take. Yeah, fire. We got to stop doing that. We got to stop doing that kind of over-intellectualization of television programs and tying it to literary stuff that clearly the writer, you weren't in the writer's room. You don't know what they were thinking. And they probably were. It's not that deep. It's just not that deep. And I refuse to believe it's as deep as these sort of people that are making sort of videos and content and I assume making money off of just making up stories about the backstory of Severance.

8:02And I just don't think that's, it's just not that deep. Everyone just calm down. I think it could be that deep. They do have a Severance podcast where they talk about it. Like I think it's Ben Stiller. I've heard it's cool. Michael Scott. Adam Scott? Adam Scott, sorry. I mean, Michael Scott. I think that there is, I think that there is some like depth to it and, you know, whatever. No, I'm not saying there's not depth. There's a lot of theorizing and, you know, I'm not here to hate on anyone making content. We're literally, you know, part of the problem. And we live in a society. So, yeah, but no, we do.

8:40It is funny to me when people start talking like theories and then they're just like so deep and it's like, you know, if you were this deep on anything else, it might be a problem. Like, yeah, no, that's what I mean. It's just like, go get a hobby. Go outside. I like the show, but I think there are people that are taking it a little too seriously. And I think those people need to – Well, if they just like it, they're into it. Don't yuck their yum, Alex. I just don't think you can – I think you can be into something without being a sycophant, crazy person. Just chill out. You know what I mean? I guess.

9:18Yeah. We'll agree to disagree there. Don't you have other things to do? Yeah. Like, I mean. Alex, if you don't like the content, just, you know, scroll on by. Yeah. Scroll on by. You don't have to. You don't have to like it. You don't have to. You don't have to listen. Just keep it. Keep it pushing. I guess. I guess you're right. I guess I'm just, you know, I'm so busy that maybe I'm just a little jealous of these people that they have so much time in their day to, like, go quite as deep and sort of as they do on these shows and read as much. Like, where do these fucking people have the fucking time in the day, man, to do all that?

9:49Like that's – get a job. That's what I'm saying. I bet if we analyzed your time usage and schedule, I think that we could come up with a more efficient routine, and I think we could find some time for you to get some things done on that front if you wanted to. Well, Kevin, I'm glad you brought up my routine because here's the deal. I go to bed at 6 p.m. Then I wake up at 3 a.m. Then I hit the pool. Then I dip my face in some Saratoga Springs sparkling water. I brought some here today, Kevin. Oh, very nice. Just to hydrate for the show. I hit the gym 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. Then I shower. Then I cover my face in bananas.

10:24And then I start my workday and I get that money. So when am I going to have the goddamn time to fucking read literary Severin's backstory? Wake up earlier. Hustle harder. Get it done. Yeah. Maybe segment your days into three. Maybe like three days for one day. It seems to work for a lot of people on the internet. Yeah. A lot of people in the hustle mindset. We were talking growth mindset earlier, but I think both are. You can have both at the same time. I guess maybe you're right. Maybe there's more hours in the day. I mean, I think that's the thing that I learned from Ashton Hall, which is the man taking over the internet.

11:02If you didn't see his video that went viral, he shows off his morning routine where at one point, He goes for a swim in his apartment pool and timestamps everything along the journey. And it's an insane routine. And yeah, he's giving the people of the internet fits. And listen, the manager's getting it in, right? Like what does it bother you? Like you said, Kevin, he's living three days in one day. Yeah. I mean, hold up. I got a question about this. So I'm not very tapped into this. I've seen the video. I'm like – Wait. Kevin, you're not chronically online? I'm a little less so. But I've been catching up because of the show.

11:46See, this is why we need to stop the skiing, Kevin, is because you're just been too – you're not topped in. You got to mainline the internet like I'm doing here. Well, I don't know. This is what you're – yeah. Hard to say if I need to do that. But are people like clowning him for this routine? Is he being – is he the butt of the jokes because he's doing what he's got to do to look fit and sick? I think he is the butt of this joke because he is a fitness influencer that has giant muscles, and people are kind of like, why do you need these muscles? This feels all performative, and this is – what is your job?

12:28What do you do for a living? That's what he does. He makes that video for a living. I know, but that's why I think people are conning him. And the other part people are cloning him for are because he's putting bananas on his face. So, you know, bananas. Do you feel like I brought props for the show here today, Kevin? Absolutely. People fear what they don't know. And, you know, if it's working for him, which it looks like it is. I mean, his skin was impeccable. Like, I mean, I don't know if there's like a lot of – The man is a machine. There's not a lot of scientific studies about banana peel on the face.

13:03But I asked Google about it and it says there are some potential benefits like exfoliation. Banana peels are high in antioxidants like vitamin C and vitamin E, which can help protect the skin from free radical damage, which I don't really know what that means. It's moisturizing and it's anti-inflammatory. So, I mean, if it's working for him and – which it clearly is, his skin is awesome. I wish my skin was that clear and supple. Oh, his skin looks phenomenal. If I could be this guy, I probably would. If we could just like Freaky Friday this, I probably would. In a minute, I'd be like, yeah. And especially, I mean, even if I had to make like borderline corny content, call it what you will.

13:55I mean, this dude is living life. He's jacked. He's jacked. He's living life at a high level and got a rock and pod. Great skin. Great skin. If I'm Saratoga water right now, I am bringing this guy in to be the official ambassador of Saratoga water. They need to be plugging him hard. They need to have a deal with this guy yesterday. This guy's probably done more for Saratoga water than anybody in history. He's done so much for this brand. Also, shout out Saratoga water. Pretty good water. Absolutely. As far as good water goes, the blue glass is iconic. It's very beautiful. And I got to say, putting this banana peel on my face right now feels pretty good.

14:36Yeah. It's cool. It's kind of cold and feels nice. Yeah. I got to admit, I love bananas. Bananas are delicious. Nothing wrong with a delicious banana. I assume he eats them. Yeah. He did eat it in the video. He ate it and he rubbed it on his face. No waste. Here's the other cool thing I want to try in this video. is face down in a pool of freezing, cold, sparkling water. That probably feels so crazy. It's probably so invigorating. So shout out to him. He rocks. Shout out to Ashton. He does got a lot going on. And he's very, very good. The routine is - He's very, very ridiculously good looking.

15:14So I guess naturally he can handle it. He could be the butt of some jokes. But I'm here for this. and Sarah Togawater bang his line. Get this man on a billboard right now. No, get this guy on some talk shows. Get this guy. I mean, this guy is – If he's not on Fallon and Kimmel and wherever fucking viral stars go, then it's a shame. He should be out here. Yeah, getting an NIL deal. Does this guy play sports? He did play – I think he did, right? Yeah, he played college football at Alcorn State. Yeah, fuck yeah. I saw a picture on Twitter. I'm happy for this guy. I don't know this guy. And I will say, Kevin, I went to the store to get my Saratoga water this morning.

15:56I did make a crucial mistake. I got still. I mean, come on. What a fucking bozo. Dorky mistake. I was too excited. I was like, I went to the store. I was like, oh, they got Saratoga. They got bananas. This is going to be a great bit on the podcast. And I got still. But I'm here for this meme. And to be honest, this is inspiring me. Because, Kevin, as you know, I've been on my fitness journey. And I posted as a joke on my story a picture of me, a workout pic, and I timestamped it at 4.36 a.m. I thought it'd be funny because I assumed that everyone understood the Ashen Hall phenomenon. The sun was out in my photo.

16:36So I assumed that people would get that this was not in fact 4.36 a.m. and this was not real. And boy, was I wrong. Uh, everyone was either just impressed, uh, shocked that I was up that early or giving me a ton of like, let's go muscle emojis. So that's the dangers of being too early on the internet. You know, I think I wasn't, I saw it. I was like, what the hell? Like, I was like, I know it's not four 30 and yeah, I guess good for Alex for getting to the gym at four 30 if you know, but I was like, yeah, that seems like cap. No, I mean, listen, I'm not, I'm not waking up at four 30. I mean, again, what I learned through this experience is that you can just lie on the internet and people will just assume that it is real.

17:17So it was a joke. I had to then explain the joke to people and send them the meme and sort of explain it to them, which that's a great joke when you have to explain it. Maybe we could run it back on the front and center Instagram. Yeah, no, that's good. And shout out to a friend of the pod, Zupong, who told me I'm getting hotter by the second. So that really made me feel good. I mean, listen, that's the ultimate comment. He knows hot. That's what I'm saying. I told him, I said, getting sort of a, oh God. That's diesel. That's a diesel gas compliment from, you know, that's an S tier compliment.

17:56So you should put that one up in the rafters. Bank that one forever. Thank you. No, no, no. I said my goal with all of this workout and all this sort of time that I'm spending in the gym is to be sexualized and sort of objectified by Zapong. That's the number one goal. And he agreed. He said sort of a gay man's compliment is the ultimate compliment. What an honor. What a huge honor. So I just want to shout him out and say thank you. Also, I want to say a shout out to Jerry Joseph, my trainer. I want to say thank you to David Bars. I've been getting that protein. And so Ashton Day in the Life video coming soon.

18:38And I think this is going to inspire a nation. Listen, I mean, Day in the Life routine video wouldn't be the worst thing. I feel like it probably – I think it would probably do some numbers. Do you know how hard it must be to make those things? Like I just – that's my – to be honest, like I'm as impressed by the workout as I am by the ability to make a video where you're just filming every second of your day and posting and stitching it together. It's like, who's got the time for that? I'm sure he's got a team. He's got a team. I guess, though, yeah, you are right, though. That is the job. I heard, I saw a reel about, it was AJ and Big Justice, they're on a podcast, talking about their production and what they do.

19:17And basically, they've got editors in the Philippines churning out videos for them, which, you know, kind of disappointing. You know, whatever. Do your thing. you got to do what you got to do but you know hopefully they're getting paid well um it was it was kind of crazy so they had a they've pretty big team too so like i think they said like maybe 12 but like i mean that this dude ashton definitely he's got like at least one person you know working on his stuff filming editing so shout out shout out to him that's a new hustle and yeah i did a video across my feed uh of aj and big justice doing the dochi anxiety dance and i just uh I kind of saw the beginning of the end, Kevin.

19:57I was like, ooh, how long can you do the booms and the double-chunk chocolate cookies? It's running its time. But that's all great memes. Enjoy them while you got them. So shout out to Hashton and getting that protein. I've been getting my protein. And Kevin, I got to say, personally, I'm a big protein guy. I've been getting my grams up. But I am tired of people saying that there's too much protein or too much talk about protein. The people want the protein. Let them have it, Kevin. There is a bit too much protein. We're protein maxing right now. As a bro who loves his protein, I eat a lot of protein.

20:36I'm advocating for it. I feel like it's a classic relationship dynamic where it's like, I got to get my girlfriend to eat more protein because she kind of just wants to eat noodles and carbs all day. Which, you know, go off. What? We need protein and it's vital to the human body. But I don't think we need protein ranch. I don't think we need protein monster energy protein drinks. Wrong again. I don't think we need protein enriched foods. That's my take. Get it from steak. Get it from chicken. Get it from eggs. Eat a spoonful of peanut butter. Eat some beans. Eat a handful of nuts. and if you want to eat protein bars, yeah, go off, but get out of here with Protein Ranch.

21:24That's insane. What do you mean? Listen, what am I going to eat with my fucking chicken, Kevin? I want some Protein Ranch. That's double protein. Protein on protein. Come on. That's what I need. Shout out to the people of Protein Ranch. Send me some stuff. I will gladly... Sauce Plus? Yeah, Sauce Plus. Is that what it's called? Sauce Plus. Sounds like a streaming service. I'm here for it. Send me that shit. I'm here for the double protein. And like I just – I think I'm just tired of people trying to sort of gatekeep or yuck other people's yums. If people want the protein, let them have the protein.

21:59They don't need to go to Expo West and be like, oh my god, there's too much protein. It's like, yeah, people like protein. Let them have their protein. Come on. Who are you? Who are you to take their protein away? Who are you to take their protein takes away, Alex? Yeah, no. But I'm saying like this is how it works, right? You're doing the same thing, just a level above. You're being like – Let the people make the protein. The protein maxers are right here. And then the next step up is the people complaining about the protein maxers. And you're one step above complaining about the people who are complaining about the protein maxers.

22:33That's right. And then I'm even one further step above being like, just do your thing. I'm just chilling. Just eat some steak. Eat some steak. Eat some beans. I get it. But like, yeah, we had muscle milk and we have Monster. And so Muscle Monster, come on, dude. You know, you get your energy, you get your protein. This is about convenience, I think. That's what people are missing here. It's like, you know, we need the protein, but how can we get it in the easiest and sort of most convenient ways? Yeah. Put it in my ranch, put it in my fucking coffee, put it in my water. Yeah. I don't know. I don't think nutrients and protein needs to be the most easiest, convenient, yummy thing.

23:15I think if you want to have a good balanced diet, you got to work a little bit. These CPG brands are not going to save you.

23:27You heard it here first. CPG isn't going to save you. I had this take on LinkedIn. I fired away. What did you say? What was the Kevin thing? I basically said it. I said, I'm sick of these protein-rich foods. Just eat a spoonful of peanut butter, some chicken, some eggs, whatever. These yummy brands probably – yummy, quote unquote, are probably not even that yummy. Oh, David bars are delicious. Yeah, David bars are good. But like protein ranch, like sauce plus, I don't know. Sauce plus. Do you remember that – Some of the ranch. I'm here for it. Do you remember that alcoholic beverage we covered like two years ago on the fronties or backies?

24:05Of course. How could I forget? The protein-loaded alcoholic seltzer. Pretty sick. Honestly, they were ahead of their time. I hope they're doing well. I can't remember what the brand's called, but I hope that I really do. I do not have it in my brain. Yeah. Yeah. No, I want all these brands to win. That's why I'm saying that we need to chill out. We need to let them fucking cook. Let the market determine whether we want protein, ranch. Don't go out and be like, we've hit max protein, too much protein. It's like if the people want ranch sauce with protein in it, let them enjoy it. Let them try to get in the way of these small businesses, these mom and pop brands trying to get that dough and trying to get that fucking protein money.

24:49Fair enough. That's all I'm saying. I'm saying let them cook and sponsor the pod. Kevin, springtime. Market regulates itself. Exactly. The market – if we had too much protein, then we will find out. Those brands will find out on their own. They don't need us to go around and say, oh, there's too much protein at Expo West. It's part of the healthy media ecosystem, Alex. That's right. Exactly. Things must go up. It must come down. If they weren't complaining about the protein maxing, you wouldn't be complaining about the complaining. Complaining about the meat. I see where you're coming. Kevin, I'm tired of this.

25:22We have to move on because it's springtime and baseball is here because we need hobbies. That's the thing. These people need hobbies and baseball. Baseball, springtime in the air. It smells like pitchers and catchers, you know, the grass. I could just smell the hot dog at Citi Field on a beautiful Sunday while the sun is out. It's a little cold, so I'm wearing a jacket. And Juan Soto's hitting smashes, oh, runs in the Mets. Hitting fingers, dude. Dingers only. And so baseball is here. And to celebrate, New Era released a cap collection nicknamed the Overlap because it overlaps each team's monogram on top of the team's full word mark.

26:00Kevin, what could possibly go wrong? Well, I guess they probably didn't look at the whole gamut of the teams. I would guess that they maybe did one of these hats and was like, oh, this is sick. Which is the one you think they went with first and were like, oh, yeah, this rules. I personally think the Yankees is pretty tight. I think the White Sox looks good. There are a couple that actually look good. I'm not super into it. I would just rather rock a plane logo. Like, you know, there's just a classic like new era fitted or, you know, if you want to get a little vintage, you know, go classic sports specialties, you know, snapback plane logo.

26:39Oh, yeah. No, no Mitchell Nest. None of that fake vintage shit. I'm talking sports specialties. If you know, you know. Okay. I don't know. But I'm a new era guy. Yeah. I guess they didn't really look the oversight. And when they flushed the system out, there were some things that – there were some words that were formed. There were a couple of stats that stood out. Specifically, the Texas Rangers had tetas on there. Yeah. And the Spanish for tits. Oh, thank you, Kevin, for translating for those at home. The Houston Astros kind of looked – ash-hoes. The quick eye kind of looked like assholes. And then the Los Angeles Angels, which I think is probably the worst offender here, really just reads as anals, really.

27:28That's really what it looks like. So these hats went quickly viral, and they shut it down. Yeah, they shut it down immediately, which is crazy. And now you can really only get these on a secondhand on eBay, which the prices have come down considerably. I saw them trending upwards of$1 ,000. when this story first dropped. $100? No. But now they've kind of leveled out to I saw like$180,$200. Probably like double, triple what the hat's actually worth. But I don't know. If the Cincinnati Reds had one that said something crazy, I'd be buying it. That's fair. If I was an Angels fan, I would probably want to get my hands on the Anals hat.

28:13You're right there. It's a sacred hat. Forbidden hat. I got another take. Yeah. I think they knew exactly what they were doing. Interesting. I'm calling BS here. I think they knew that these hats kind of looked like Tata's, and I think this is a setup. I think they saw it. I think they knew it, and probably someone was like, do you think we should be concerned about this? And someone very smart said, well, maybe they'll go viral, and we'll sell more of these hats. and that's what I believe, Kevin. I see you, MLB internal hat design team. You got your third eye open. You can't fool me. My third eye is open.

28:54It's actually in between, overlapping my first two eyes, Kevin. Listen, you're wearing a ball cap, but it's not covering your third eye. That's right. And I think the Mets one is kind of trash, but yeah, I think they knew what they were doing and good on you, MLB baseball, that you got people talking about baseball. It's the first time in 10, 20 years that people are talking about Major League Baseball because the MLB is historically bad at marketing. So I hope that this is an inside job. But we're so back, and all it took was a hat that kind of looked like it said anal on it. So, Kevin, did you see my Mets were on the cover of Sports Illustrated?

29:30I did not. Oh, yeah. Everyone was saying the SI was going out of business. Nah, they're still kicking. And my New York Mets are on the cover. We got Aura, Kevin. Wow. Aura. Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh. And you know what that means. World Series or bust. I mean, you guys definitely do have Oro. I will give you that. We do. The Oro left over from last season and enhanced by one of the top Oro guys in the entire league, Juan Soto. That's what I'm saying. You just add Oro to some Oro. And yeah. What's better when he does his little Soto shuffle and kind of grabs his crotch a little bit at the pitcher? That shit rocks.

30:09That's what I live for. And that's what I – I'm excited that we're here and spring training is here. It's going to be a very exciting year. You're going to hear us talk about it on the show way too much. You're going to be like, I thought this was a design podcast, and I'm just going to be talking about the mix. We'll keep it moving. We've actually got a good system in place for talking about sports now where we do it pre-program. That's true. That's right. We get out the sports takes before we get on the show. I think we should put that out separately just as a sports center kind of – you know, and, and for the sports heads and then, uh, the design show for the design head.

30:42So yeah, I guess I'm, I'm not buying this Mets hat though, but Kevin, uh, I, I, if I did, I'd put it on layaway with Klarna and that is how you do a transition. Wow. Uh, DoorDash and Klarna went, uh, made some news this week because they announced that there was now a way for you to pay later when you were buying your DoorDash delivery food. and people on the internet thought this was quite funny. Lots of memes, quite some stories. You can now put your tacos on layaway and you can finance your pizza from Domino's or Raisin Cane's. What do you, what do you think, Kevin? Are you going to be using this new feature?

31:20I will not be, I will not be using Klarna. I don't, I don't, it doesn't resonate with me putting things on layaway. Yeah. It doesn't seem like smart money moves as a guy who's, you know, Only making smart money moves? I'm not making smart money moves. I'm throwing it all at my hobby and my passion. Okay. That's right. Yeah. You're just putting it all into the shred. Yeah. I mean, if I could put that on a little bit, maybe. But yeah. I mean, here's my take. We live in a society. Yeah. We do live in a society. Do you think this is an inside job? Do you think Klarna was like, hey, let's make some noise here.

31:57What would be funny? We'll take some heat. We'll be the butt of the jokes. But at the end of the day, more people will know what Klarna is than they did the day before. Facts. The tweet of the announcement got 34 million views, 7 ,000 likes, and 8 ,000 retweets in 15 hours. And the memes are going pretty hard. So yeah, I mean, now your third eye is open. I'm with you, man. I think this was earnest, and I'll tell you why. these fees and prices on doordash grubhub seamless whatever the fuck they call this app like they're getting out of hand dude like i was on there you know again like i order a lot of delivery on on the weekends right and there was a service fee and like a delivery service fee and then like a delivery fee i was like what the fuck are we doing here i'm ordering two salads for dinner and it's 60 bucks so i don't know like i'm not gonna put that on layaway but i mean i could kind of understand why maybe you could if you've got a family of five so you've got kids out there and you're ordering a dinner uh for for your family you know that's a zillion dollars so i don't know that that's that crazy to be like okay now my dinner's 200 bucks i don't want to pay all that right now i'll put this in small installments over the next couple of weeks fair enough i mean that's a good point i mean i'm sure it will be helpful for some people like with big orders.

33:21Alex, you got a problem. You're paying too many fees on DoorDash or Seamless or whatever. And I'm a notorious problem solver here. So let me rip. Hear me out. Pick up your own food. So here's the deal, Kevin. I'm down with this plan except for two problems. One, I got to go outside. That's not happening. And then two, the fees are still there even when you go and pick it up. So when you look at the options of picking it up yourself or getting it delivered, it's not like it's a night and day difference. The fees are still there. The only way to avoid these fees is to call the restaurant, place the order on the phone, and then go pick it up.

34:09And you know I'm not doing that. I don't got the time for that. What is it, 1999? I do that. We are not – I'm not calling in an order and going to pick it up. It's better for the restaurant if you do that too. No, I know it's better for the restaurant. I'm just saying. But convenience over everything, I'm not – that's just not happening. So these fees are going up and I do feel bad that the restaurants don't benefit from the fees. It goes to the apps. So I mean I'm aware of the problem. I'm also aware that they've got me hooked on the teat, the tatas of these apps. and then from there, those fees were smaller.

34:47It was very convenient and not as expensive. And now they're just slowly raising. Uber did the same thing. Uber got us. Uber prices are fucking through the roof. Everybody does that. I mean, if they've got you, you're got. You're already got. YouTube TV did that. YouTube TV is almost as expensive as cable now. Yeah, and Spotify, Netflix, same thing. It's like, oh yeah, it's$4 a month,$5 a month. 10 bucks a month. And then just like every year, it's like a slow drip. They just like, it's 12. Now it's 17. Now it's 19. It's just like, they're just, they got you. And what are you going to do? Stop watching love is blind.

35:23Never. I know we live in a society. Yeah. And you're, you're in Denver right now. They're filming. That's where you're there to the, for the pods, right, Kevin? Yeah. Yeah. I know. I know what the show is and I am aware of it. No, this is what these apps are doing, but I'm onto them now. They got you, but it's so slow and methodical. It takes years, but they got you right where they want you. And it's at your home, watching Netflix, ordering food, and going broke out here. And it's fucking tough, man. So I understand. It's a very funny meme to be like, oh, I got home and I got my pizza sort of financed.

36:03But I don't think it's that crazy because prices are going up, man. Yeah. Yeah. Speaking of prices going up, eggs, you know,$14 a carton these days. Yeah, you got to put those on layaway. You got to put those on layaway. And so this week, a brand known as The Ordinary, known for sort of selling their minimalist skincare products, is getting in on the egg game. And they're selling eggs at their store for four bucks, Kevin. Pretty good. That's a steal. Pretty good. Pretty good. Two stores in Manhattan. And I saw this everywhere over the past week. And I thought it was genius. Like it's bringing so much attention to the brand.

36:43Their packaging is minimalist. So obviously it works really well on the top of an egg carton just to sort of put the ordinary eggs. And this is not easy marketing, but it's just like they put two fridges in their stores. They put some packaging on top of eggs and just jump right in on this moment. And I love that shit. I love when people take advantage and jump right onto the zeitgeist. And, you know, this is a crazy idea for a skincare brand, but it's not that crazy. Yeah. Millions of impressions. This is, like you said about Klorna, like this is going to put The Ordinary, a brand that maybe doesn't have as much recognition on the map.

37:21Yeah. It's definitely a cool way to get in the conversation. Like, I mean, eggs are a pretty hot button issue right now, you know? Yeah. Can't afford eggs, yada, yada, yada. Yeah. It is kind of crazy. I mean, I bought my eggs at the farmer's market and they've gone up. How much are those going for? $10 a dozen, but I gladly will pay Nestor Trello$10 a dozen for eggs. Actually, the egg guy or the egg lady rather is like my top Venmo recommended. Whenever I open Venmo, it's in the top two. So shout out to Nestor Trello. Trello Farms, good eggs. damn kevin's got an egg lady yeah i mean listen they're gas like i mean i'll take those i'll take those over any supermarket um any supermarket eggs i just feel i just feel real good when i eat them yeah no that's that's right eggs eggs are weird like if you think about them too much then immediately it gets weird and i do think the eggs in the average supermarket are kind of trash so definitely i think i think you're right here like try to try to get some uh some some some quality eggs but yeah no the price is it's a hot button issue of course it's political it's become this big thing so i i just think it's i think it's smart for a skincare brand uh to do something like this and then uh i saw it everywhere and i was like oh this is a good story this feels very front and center and then i found out who was behind it oh yeah classic it's like classic mischief getting into the advertising game a little bit here and uh yeah no it makes perfect sense they clearly get culture they clearly get how to crack that uh zeitgeist and get people to pay attention and i can't remember a time where they did something like on behalf of a brand yeah obviously they've done like some some promo stuff with like crocs right or whatever but i feel like it's i feel like it's always been kind of on their court definitely like it's always been in their the the mischief definitely and it's like i like it because it's not like super aggressive It's just like, hey, we got like cheap eggs.

39:22Like that's it. Like that's the promo. It's like, hell yeah, that rocks. I'm all for like cheaper eggs. The ordinary is like, their shtick is like, we're giving you high quality products for like a good price, right? So it fits. And it's a great brand fit. And I do like how a lot of mischiefs, activations or whatever you'll call them. A lot of what they do is like pretty loud and pretty aggressive. And it's nice to see this one. I'm like, you know, it's just like a fastball right down the middle. Like, you know. No, you're 100 % right. Yep. Just easy. Just easy. And it feels good. It's a good, it's a really good club.

39:57I'm here for it. You're right. It is a fastball right down the middle. It's, you know, it's just run the ball. Yeah. And this is, and it's funny. Yeah. Like, I mean, if Mischief was like an advertising agency, like this is, this is, they would be mega successful because I feel like brands would be lining up to just get some of this juice. And I don't think it's that hard for them. I feel like they get it. They understand what they're doing. They know how to take an idea and apply it and sort of execute it. And it's just the numbers. They put numbers on the board. And I did a quick little Google search this morning.

40:36I'm like, yeah, every single publication I've written about. And it's just like, yeah. And I don't even think it's because of mischief. I think it's just because of the purity and the quality of the idea. Yeah, it's a great idea. Just cheap eggs from a brand that doesn't sell eggs, but is known for high quality sort of affordable products. It fits. I do think the packaging is also helpful here, right? To put sort of skincare-looking packaging on eggs, it's giving lumen a little bit, which I think is kind of fun, which I think is one of my favorite parts of that show. It's just like the lumen-branded sort of everything.

41:10That makes sense. You would like that. I like it too. Yeah. I mean, it's just – you know that they're putting time and craft into those details, the set team. Yeah. I mean, Lumen's a firebrand. It's a firebrand. Looks great. A lot of talk on the internet about the Lumen brand, which I am here for. I'm here for that conversation and nerding out, maybe not on the literary references, but the Lumen typography and the branding. And the Lumen product placement in the Severin show is just very strong. It's great. Every time it pops up, you're just like, oh, nice little detail. Nice little detail. Kevin, before we get out of here, we got to talk about the big story.

41:52PepsiCo acquired Poppy for$2 billion. Damn,$2 billion? Wow. $2 billion. PepsiCo today announced the fast-growing prebiotic soda,$1.95. So we'll round that up to$2 billion. And I think there's been talk about this. There's been kind of like smoke and fire here and they were denying it. No, no, no, no, no, not us. But it is now officially official. And congrats. Yeah, good for them. Good for them. Congratulations to all involved. And I really, the founders, it's a husband and wife duo. They posted a really sweet Instagram post that I saw that was just like them starting the business at farmer's markets and this brand called Mother.

42:37And yeah, it was very – it touched my heart. I was like, well, you know what? The American dream is still alive. And this is – people working hard, making something happen, and they did it. This is the goal. Yeah. Thank you, Pepsi, for telling me that the American dream is still alive. That's right, Pepsi. Thank you. We have a quote from Ramon LaGuarta, chairman and CEO of Pepsi. He said, we've been evolving our food and beverage portfolio over many years, including by innovating with our brands in new spaces and through disciplined strategic acquisitions that enable us to offer more positive choices to our customers.

43:16More than ever, customers are looking for convenient and great tasting options that fit their lifestyles and respond to their growing interest in health and wellness. Poppy is a great complement to our portfolio transformation efforts to meet those needs. Wow. Yeah. All right. Don't clap. This is Kevin. No clapping in the mic. If you can't beat them, buy them. That's what this is, Kevin. And that's – Poppy is a soda for a new generation. That's what they say. Pepsi famously has been trying to be that for many, many years. And yeah, Poppy did it a little bit better than they could. Yeah. Yeah. Poppy popped off and it just goes to show you the power of the brand, Alex.

44:00Power of the brand. We're branding podcasts here. We are branding progress. So I got to say, yeah, quick shout out to my old boss, Rohan Oza, who did a deal on Shark Tank. He was a guest shark. And he bought, ready for this, Kevin, 25 % of Mother, the company that was, for$400 ,000. Wow. So my quick math, 25 % for$400 ,000, he turned into$500 million. Holy shit. So not bad ROI there for Mr. Oza. Shout out to Roh. And yeah, shout out to one of my good friends, Andrew Haynes, who was working for Rohan at the time and did the rebrand. And so he is the one that did the packaging that turned mother to poppy.

44:40And he crushed it, obviously brought color and energy and this visual identity system. And yeah, he deserves his flowers here on this program. So congrats to Andrew and Roh. Yeah, Andrew, come on. Let's get them both on. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, bro might be harder to get. He's probably upgrading his homes and looking at super yachts. Yeah, if he wants to throw us a couple mil, I wouldn't complain. Yeah, I mean, listen, it would be the right thing to do. Again, we had nothing to do with this, but we deserve it, right, Kevin? Yeah, definitely. Can I also get one more take off of here? Yeah, go ahead. Some more take.

45:22So first and foremost, we got to remember that vitamin water was bought by Coke for$4.1 billion. So from my math, that's two times better than poppy. So vitamin water is still the greatest. And then, yeah, everyone, we need to chill out about acquisitions. I feel like when companies acquire other companies, yes, I think it's great for CPG. It's great for the people. It's great for the industry. but like, man, we got to just chill out. Like, why are people getting so goddamn excited online? They're like, Poppy just got acquired by Pepsi. We got to talk about it. It's like, chill out, guys. It's an acquisition.

46:07This is part of business. And you had nothing to do with it. So just calm down. Just calm down. I mean, I don't know. Just relax. Just relax. I don't know. I just don't think people really have a lot of trust in big corporate entities. And to think that – I think we talked about this with the CSA acquisition. Corporations are maybe not great. I'll go on the record and say maybe they're not the greatest companies. Maybe their ethics are a bit shoddy. Not Pepsi or Coke. We're not these, Kevin. These are great companies. I'm just saying maybe, perhaps. I think people like these small brands because it's like, we made a product and we didn't compromise.

46:55And in a lot of these big corporations, there's a lot of compromise. And not that Poppy wasn't thinking about margins, but if you're talking about ingredients and better for you, that type shit, that's not really synonymous with Pepsi or big corporations. So while it is good that they are moving in that direction and they're taking steps for that direction, I can see why people are like, you know, upset or feel some type of way about big corporation just gobbling up other brands. Yeah, I don't know. That's what I saw, though. I mean, I think I saw. Yeah, I think there's always a part of people online that are like a little bummed that their sort of local favorite sort of band is now playing arenas.

47:34But I thought people were more happy for them. I think people were like, celebrating. I thought that's what you're saying no i was saying that people were excited and happy for poppy yeah me personally i'm excited and happy for them that's cool good for them no i know but like i i guess it just speaks to the sort of uh content uh society that we live in that like people need to make videos and uh we got to talk about it i think that's the part where i'm just like what's there to talk about it's a brand that did really well that clearly cracked something in terms of gen z and soda and Alex Earl and bright colors and prebiotic sort of fake health claims.

48:18And yeah, and built a nice business. And Pepsi is going to take that business and run with it. And$2 billion is a lot of money, of course. But if Poppy is a big, giant, global brand for the next 40 years, then they'll make their money back easily. Yeah, sure. I get why it's a flashy headline, but I don't get why people are – yeah, I don't know. I guess it's just something to talk about. We are talking about it. We're doing – I know, Kevin. We're talking about it on our show. That's the point. My brother in Christ, you are literally talking about it right now. Oh my god, Kevin. What? Wait, what?

49:01I'm the one – I'm the problem? It's me? Perhaps we are part of the problem. Perhaps we're part of the problem, but that's why we do this show. Kevin, enjoy your time in Denver. Enjoy the beautiful sunshine. Enjoy. Do you have more Shreddy to go? How many more times are we going to hit the slopes before we get back to Brooklyn? As many as possible. Hopefully four. Perhaps three. Damn, Kevin. We'll see what the weather does. Okay. Well, we need to get you back to work, Kevin. On the weekends. On the weekends, Alex. weekend trips thank you to all the new fans and shout out to everyone that's maybe listened for the first time this is the program Kevin and I talk about what's going on we have some more guest episodes coming up some really great people conversations oh we should talk about this next time is that we're doing more pods we we took the number of pods down a bit and uh i think the the the opinion from uh our massive global fan base was we want more podcasts not less and uh we hear you so we're just gonna keep uh yeah we'll be we'll be three three a month run the ball yeah run the ball kevin you know we didn't come this far to come this far actually absolutely yeah three per month oh three a month yeah three a month you heard it here first yeah three a month we're gonna keep running and uh thank you for listening yeah definitely thank you
