In short

The hosts celebrate the New York Knicks winning the NBA championship (“World Champs!”), relive key comeback moments and player highlights, and discuss New York sports culture, merch/design, plus adjacent news: World Cup watchability and food/cuisine clips, NYC “Mom Donnie” grocery RFP branding, and design/packaging stories (Coke World Cup cans, Coors Light “taller boy,” and KFC’s rebrand by JKR).

Guests

No clear guest names or separate guest bios appear in the transcript; it reads like two hosts (Kevin and another host) plus references to public figures.

Knicks fandom “gatekeeping” is discussed as unenforceable; the championship feeling is “surreal” and “new.” The comeback is framed as the greatest comeback/tip moment ever. OG Anunoby’s personality and post-win media moments are emphasized. Brands are “jumping on” Knicks hype.

0:00I know now that we're all here to talk about our Knicks fandom credentials, as we talked about in the pod last time, you know, I didn't I forgot that I was I did the title cards for Knicks movie. Yeah, no, I've been a fan since I was a kid, too. I'm like the probably the biggest Knicks fan in the world. I think you and the rest of New York City, man. It's what a time to be alive. I'm such a big fan that I was cruising around MSG the night of game three. Okay. I was looking for trouble. I was trying to. Oh, yeah. I was trying to. I was ripping jerseys off Spurs fans. Yeah. That's how big of a fan I am.

0:35Dude. Yeah. Thank you for joining the worst segment of Knicks fans. Not even Knicks fans. I feel like. I put on for my city. That's the song. That's the song. I put on for my city. On for my city. Put on. No. It was. Honestly, I was like, oh, man. I can't wait to go outside and mix it up a little bit. Like when they win. Notice I said they. Yeah. I'm not. The Spurs. No, no, no. When the Knicks win. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not there fan-wise to say we. We, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, out of respect. Listen, that's the thing about Kevin about you that I have always appreciated. You have morals.

1:10You have a code. A man must have a code. And you can't just jump on a bandwagon and start saying we. Yeah. You just can't. You just can't do that. There's levels to this. Yeah, you can be – listen, you can be happy for a team. Yeah, you can be fired up. You can even root for them. Yeah. But like there are levels and we need to enforce them. I think there's like a big conversation. I mean I like gatekeeping. I don't want to put everybody on to everything. Yeah, we're pro gatekeeping. I think it's funny. For some things, for some things for sure. For some things, maybe not. Some things not everybody should have.

1:41But like it's literally impossible. You can't gatekeep sports. It's like literally – especially like the Knicks. It's hard to gatekeep. New York City basketball team. I will. I mean, it's the... If I could, I would. It is truly a basketball city, and it's a good thing for the city. But it's also like, I could imagine putting a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the team over my entire life. You know, constant disappointment. Maybe not constant disappointment, but a lot of disappointment. Listen, there are some really tough teams. Shout out to Danilo Gallinari. And shout out to so many terrible teams that I've had to watch through the years.

2:16You know, you finally make it to the finals. you win the finals and you know everyone in the mom is wearing the bootlegs nick nick's finals t-shirt i mean listen kevin we should start the show going crazy jumping on buses which like honestly if there's a time to do it go ahead go for it i know i know nicks fans to the front

2:40three two one Kevin one question for you who let the dogs out was it you the New York Knicks are champions of the world we did it what a time to be alive shout out to Jalen Brunson shout out to Ogie Anna Noby shout out to Josh Hart shout out to Mikhail Bridges shout out to Carl Anthony Towns Landry Shamit Deuce McBride Mitchell Robinson, Tyler Kolick, dogs. Absolutely. All of them. What a squad. They did it. They fucking did it. And to be honest, Kevin, you know, I didn't know what it would feel like. I was out of the country. What's it feel like? It's confusing. It's a very confusing feeling.

3:21My whole life I've wanted this, and my whole life I've never felt this feeling before. It's a new feeling. You got it. I got it. Yeah. Because the Mets won when I was two. I didn't get the feeling. and uh you know the giants they're my one c team one c yeah you know and that's and that's there's a big difference between my one a my one b and my one c i'll say that for sure i'm a blue and orange guy through and through everyone knows that yeah me too i bleed blue i bleed blue and orange and i didn't know what it would feel like and uh i'm still quite stunned but there is definitely some some conflicting feelings of yeah um it's like your favorite band that you know you loved when you were you know when they weren't anybody and now they're the beatles it's they're the biggest thing in the world and uh you got to share them with all of new york city and uh listen i was trying to keep uh the new york knicks but uh it's impossible it's impossible they're the hottest brand in the world i know it's a crazy time to be in new york it really is you know we got the knicks winning we got the world cup i don't even give a fuck about that yeah we got j-lo on subway takes talking about what it what it means to be a new yorker listen j-lo people getting mad listen j-lo millions of videos talking about other people's definition of yeah being a new yorker yeah yeah i mean a lot of new york discourse yeah there's tears to the shit kevin and listen i've always said you know i'm not a 1a new yorker but i'm a i'm a 1b you know and that's better than uh most people that uh you know i grew here they flew here so it's true i did fly here to be honest i missed a lot of the magical new york city energy because i've been gallivanting around europe shouts to good people of belfast shouts to the good people of hamburg doing doing design shit and uh i missed i missed uh i missed some of it and it was disappointing but i did watch obviously two in the morning uh the amazon prime uh euro feed was was electric you got gallinari yeah yeah yep you got gallinari on there you got um you know chris bosh for some reason you got some really interesting characters on the euro feed but um yeah it was uh you know i had to stay locked in and uh we did it all right we talked about this before you left off yeah fair yeah but uh you were talking about like oh i'm gonna i'm supposed to be out of town for the most of the most of the finals yeah it's like how could you let that happen i mean listen it is it is i i will i will look back on this and to be honest i probably you know won't think about where i was too much i think i'll just think about how great this team was and how how wonderful the feeling was of winning but yeah there was definitely a little i mean at least you're back now i'm back now you're back for the most important stuff dude i my i had a flight home on sunday i would have missed the championship like you should have seen me when we went up to nothing and my flight was not going to get me home until game like i had a a breakdown i had i had an anxiety attack i was i you know i spent many hours talking to chat gpt um as as as my as my my foremost therapist outside of my my team of therapists yeah actually an employee about what what do i do i almost pulled out of the conference damn i listen i almost was like guys some things are bigger than design and this is this is a once in a lifetime opportunity yeah i mean it's pretty it's pretty big i mean even as a football fan yeah as a ravenous football fan i try to you know avoid yeah you know booking a ski trip no i get around that general area until i know it's safe yeah yeah like when i know it's like uh when i know it's not gonna happen yeah like you know if we've got we've got clearance Sure.

6:49You know, I'll go. Yeah. We can go like President's Day weekend, whatever. Listen, I fucked up last year when I booked this trip. And yeah, I guess I wasn't really considering the New York Knicks winning the NBA championship. And that's... Who's the fake fan now? Hands up. That's on me. And I should have. I should have looked at the NBA final schedule, which probably was pretty locked and should have thought, hmm, maybe this trip could happen. But never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen. But listen, hey, I wouldn't change it for a thing. We did it. We actually – Does it feel good?

7:25It feels incredible. What do you mean? I mean it's surreal to see OG Ananomi on Good Morning America being asked about. Oh, yeah. Fried. Everyone's saying he's stoned as hell. Yeah, he looks super high. I personally prefer the McAllen Bridges drunk IG Lives. Oh, you liked that? That was weird. I caught like a super cut of that last night. And I was like, how long did that go for? Yeah. And he just sat there by himself on live? Yeah. That's crazy. I guess he was just answering questions from the fans and talking reckless. Talking really reckless. But I guess that's what happens, man. I think you got like a week to just kind of talk recklessly after you win a big championship.

8:02I think you got a week. It made me like Mikael Bridges a little bit more. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Because, you know, he – listen. I don't think we've ever seen that much personality. That's what I'm saying. To be honest, that's one of the best parts about all this is like you're seeing these guys personality which listen josh hart has been hilarious cat's always been funny brunson's been kind of funny in his moments like these guys have good personality for sure so now you get to see them yeah you just get to see more unleashed and i think that's what is really making more and turned up to 11 yeah and like that's wonderful like to see jalen brunson sit down at the podium and you know for the post game and be like should i be myself or should i talk my shit it's like that's that's i'm just so proud yeah that's pretty cool yeah i mean these guys are great guys and i do think that's why New York has loved this team yeah and like why they've actually fallen in love with them you know at this scale easy to root for they're super easy to root for and like the fact that they just like they're not this like superstar driven team it's you know it kind of reminds me of like the Pistons when they won the championship with like uh Chauncey Phillips and fucking like uh Ben Wallace and she yeah Rasheed Wallace yeah and like these guys that But like, yeah.

9:12The Red Hamilton. Yeah, just like a good team. Yeah, yeah. The power of friendship. You know, that's the thing. The Nova Knicks. Yeah, and I love it. You know, you got your Timothee Chalamet's and your Taylor Swift and the Haim sisters, famously of Los Angeles, California. The Taylor Swift Haim. Is that how you say it? Haim? Haim, I think. Haim? Haim? Whatever. Yeah, whatever. That was a bit tough. It's a bit tough. Yeah. The shirts, I don't know. Yeah. A little cringe. Very cringe. Very cringe. Very cringe. But listen, you're Taylor Swift. Whatever. You could do whatever. And that game will go down in history.

9:47And as all of us, our design listeners out there who just love to hear us talk about sports. I mean, that's the greatest comeback in NBA history. It's the greatest tip in. It's the greatest sport moment. It's the greatest tip of all time. That I've ever seen. Pause. I love that OG Ananobi yesterday said, I was trying to dunk it. Which is hilarious. Like, they're very funny. They're a very funny team. And I'm just so happy for my boys. We did it. That's why everybody here is a Knicks fan now. That's right. I mean, it is a bit of a shame that I had to share it with the 8 million other people of New York.

10:23That's all right. That's what sports are for. They're just sitting together. And I guess I wasn't prepared for that. I guess I wasn't prepared to have to share my little brand, aka the New York Knicks, with 8 million people. But hey, you know, it's I'm happy. Yeah. I'm happy to share them. I mean, just from an outsider perspective, like, you know, I said this in the pre-show, but like it is kind of like a stay in your lane type situation, you know, because it's unenforceable, you know? Yeah. What are you going to say? What are you going to say? It's like, what are you going to be bitter about winning because other people are happy?

10:58Like that's the shittiest feeling to have to reckon with. But it is a feeling that I. Yeah. I'm allowed to be like, oh, yeah. It's just hard. It's just hard because you like, you know, it's just, it's everybody. But I'm happy for all of us, new fans, old fans, everyone. My maintenance guy in my building, when I walked downstairs today, he was wearing the bedazzled shirt and the hat. And I was just like, fuck it. I saw a guy with a bedazzled shirt yesterday in Greenpoint. I need one of those. Fuck, dude. How do you get it so fast? I need that fucking shirt. The hat is atrocious. We should talk about design because it is a design podcast.

11:31But like when your team wins, one of the things I was looking forward to was like, let's see this hat. Yeah. Let's see this hat. No good. Terrible. Just unwearable. Like truly terrible. Like stuff. I don't know. Like the finals hat was good. The finals hat. Yeah. The finals hat was really good. I might have to get that one. Yeah. Because the finals hat was solid. That's a wearable, cool. Also, it's much cooler when you get the finals hat and then you won the finals. Right. Of course. Like wearing the finals hat and losing is rough. But like I think about the 1994 Champions Rangers hat. Are you familiar with this hat?

12:00Yes. That's an iconic hat. Oh, they don't make hats like they used to. But they could. They fucking could. Like that hat is so, so, so bad. The one that they gave to the Knicks players. Yeah. I will say the bedazzled shirt goes really hard. Yeah. And as we bedazzled a center hoodie here. Ahead of the curve. We were ahead of the curve. Yeah. I was very pleased with that. I do think I need to purchase one. I am slightly horrified. I think you need to get like three. Yeah. I bought the Skele Funk sort of fantasy explosion Knicks championship hat. Very nice. So I'll cop a couple pieces of merch to celebrate.

12:36Yeah. I mean, listen, I mean, it feels, I know this is going to sound terrible, but like wearing a Knicks hat around New York City right now, like I don't want people to think I'm a fucking poser. Who cares? I just, it's just, it's just, it's just tough. It's just tough, Kevin. No. It's tough that we won this championship. I'm worried about these other people. But like, listen, I'm happy for me. Yeah. Nothing hurts anymore. I feel kind of free. Wow. We did it 53 years. The burden has been lifted. Jalen Brunson, dog. Yeah. Dog. What a time. What a time to be in New York. I mean, I can't believe just he takes over these games.

13:11I've never had a player that was just like, watch him cook. Watch him cook. Yeah, you already know what's going down. We're down five. We got this right where we want him. It's insane. It's insane. The way in which they came back in all these games is just. I mean, I've been watching it all season. I mean, I thought we could have won it last year if our players didn't break down at the end because Tibbs played Josh Hart every minute of every game. Like, yeah, we were ready. Definitely. It was our year. It was our year. Yeah. It was our year. It was our year. Title of the episode. We did it. Our year.

13:49I did it. We did it. Shout out to me. I do love the Nike ad that Josh said. Oh, for sure. Come on, man. That's the kind of shit that you just don't even think about. Did you know Josh Safdie directed that ad? I did. I did, though. Did you see the A24 NYX hat that they put out, just like blue and orange? I did not. Do you know what's funny about our center hat that we just made? In my head, this is before the NYX went on the run. I was like, maybe we should make a blue and orange. And now I'm like, I'm glad we didn't because now everyone would have been just like, oh, they made a center NYX hat.

14:19Like brands were changing their avatars to blue and orange, like Glossier and Air and all these brands were like, yeah, we're like jumping on the Knicks. I never thought the Knicks. Wow. They couldn't change their logo for pride, but they could change it for the Knicks. Wow. I mean, the fact that we're even like talking about this is fucking surreal. That brands were like, yeah, the coolest thing to talk about is not like Love Island or Pride Month. It's fucking Tyler Colick and Miguel Bridges and Deuce McBride and Ogiean Anobi. The fact that anyone cares about Ogiean Anobi is so funny to me and so amazing.

14:55I just can't stop watching the clips. It just makes me so happy. You should watch every single clip. I watched the last five minutes of the game four again last night. And it's just so fun. I just knowing that like knowing that we win that game and how many times should we have lost that game? Like when we hit your foul shots, Fox just dribble out that ball. Like some Josh Hart missed the layup. Like so many times in which that game is a Knicks loss for sure. But this is a team of destiny. Like you're a sports fan. You understand that. Like there's just some magic for sure. It's just luck and magic and things that just have to happen.

15:35Yeah. And even like, I mean, if you look at like the Western Conference finals, like, I mean, the Spurs probably a way better matchup for the Knicks than the Thunder. I mean, the Thunder are a complete team and they blew it. It was terrified of the Thunder. They didn't move on. But like. Terrified of the Thunder. And you play who you play. I mean, if SGA is, again, like so many things have to break right for this team and they fucking did it. And yeah, I mean, we're onto the Mets, baby, you know, just four games out for the wild card. Yeah. Last night, y 'all lost 12-0 to the Reds. Yeah, I did see that.

16:03We got our ass kicked. Yeah. What happened? You guys fell off? I thought you guys were young and our pitchers. Listen, this is a feeling and that's why we had to jump on the mics and take a victory lap. We did it. We fucking did it. What feels better, completely the New York City Marathon or Knicks winning the NBA championship? Knicks by a mile. Listen, lots of people run marathons. I could have run a marathon any year just as I'm a gifted athlete, but the New York Knicks winning NBA championship, Like the fact that they did a Knicks takeover on Jimmy Fallon last night and like I get to watch that, you know, tonight.

16:41Like I just I'll be watching these clips and these will be memories forever. Definitely. How many pieces of merch are you going to? Are you going to? Because I have a contingency plan for if this ever happens to me. OK. Yeah. How many pieces? I'd get one to rock. Yeah. Probably one to put on ice. A couple of stock. And then one to put on super ice. Like, oh, throw it in the archive. Maybe throw it in a frame. I definitely want, oh, a frame. Yeah. I definitely want that bedazzled shirt. I do think I might need to cop that finals hat. Yeah, yeah. And that's really it. Like, the kit shit, like, I don't know.

17:15There's a lot of bad merch. For sure. I saw on Instagram, like, I've had to meet that it was like, 12 pieces of Nick's merch that don't suck. And I was like, oh, half of these are still really bad. Yeah. So I don't know. Like, I'm seeing a lot of really bad merch. I got a bootleg, which I'm very happy with. I almost wore it on the podcast. I'm going to hit some bootlegs. Yeah. We're going to go to the parade. I think we're going to have to see what's out there. I mean, listen, the bootleg stuff is – I was happy to get that. Jalen Brunson kind of doesn't look like Jalen Brunson. I kind of think it's amazing.

17:45You think it's AI? It's totally AI. Yeah. It's like JB, but just a little bit off. Nice. It's like just a little bit squished. Yeah. I'm excited to see the bootleg heat. Yeah. Because the NYC bootleggers always go crazy. Yeah. No, when I was at Central Park for Game Pop, some guy was selling a Brunson egg and cheese shirt. And it was so bad that I almost got it, but it was so terrible. It was like – it said bacon, egg, and threes. That's what it said. And it didn't even say Brunson. It just like didn't even say the Knicks on it. It was like just trash. And he was like – he said something like he sold 20 ,000 of them or something like that.

18:28Yeah, yeah. and selling them for$20 a pop. And it's a bad shirt. The actual final shirt. I just love this city, man. That's the thing about New York, man. New York or nowhere, Kevin. That's the thing about us. Yeah, dude, you should have been out there, man, hustling. We should have made mixed shirts, and we could have been rich right now. New York or nowhere, bro. I told you I met the guy that does New York or nowhere, that dude. He's from Arizona. Oh, wow. Yeah, yeah. What is New York or nowhere? It's like a brand. It's a brand that this guy created, and now it's like a saying. Yeah, yeah. It's become like - I know the saying.

19:06I'm kind of familiar with the brand. Yeah. To be fair, he's a real Nick fan. Yeah. He's not from New York, but he's a real Nick fan. He's been selling New Yorker Nowhere shirts for a while. Oh, what the hell? He's Nowhere? He chose Nowhere? No. I mean, no, he lives in New York. Oh, he lives in New York. He chose New York over Nowhere, a.k.a. Arizona. Okay, all right, all right. But yeah, I mean - I don't know if we can let this slide. Although I have no authority to speak since I'm not a real New Yorker. There's a lot of real New Yorker sort of gatekeeping around here. I think you're a real New Yorker if you were here rooting for the Knicks in 2026.

19:40There it is. There it is. That's my subway take. If you were outside. If you were outside. Yeah. Shout out to J-Lo. I love that she's the authority on real New Yorkers. And then she posted some video of her watching the finals game in what seemed like the most beautiful mansion of all time, which is like, I mean, God, hopefully that's, you know, in New York. God knows where that mansion is. It's probably in LA. But probably in LA. Yeah. So yeah, I guess she's the authority. But I will say one thing about the take on the subway takes. That's a, that's a, that's good. Lightning rod. That's a good take for J-Lo.

20:16That's like the most relevant she's been. She's obviously from the Bronx, so she, she can, she can have that take. It is the most controversial thing that she could possibly say so good on her for doing it like she you know that's the whole point of the show right it's about having a hot take and so i love the all i love i loved all the um actually takes you know like um actually this is what i think yeah it means and it's like yeah who fucking cares i don't know like yeah i guess i just want to know where that house is that she was watching that game in because it was just such a ridiculously giant like on like just like It just felt so non-New York, which, yeah, probably somewhere in LA.

20:56But, yeah, we did it. I mean, this is the thing. I've been waiting my whole life, and here we are. And now we've got to move on to World Cup, unfortunately. World Cup fever. Unfortunately. Yeah. What are you talking about? Let's go. Soccer. Yeah. World Cup. World Cup. Go USA. I couldn't name one player on that team. Yeah, me neither, but I'm still watching. Yeah. I do like the jerseys. They look good. Yeah. I mean, they won the first game, right? Yeah, they thoroughly whomped. They thoroughly whomped Paraguay. Paraguay. Great. They were looking good. We play Australia on Thursday. Okay. What time?

21:31I think like I think it's like five. Okay. Maybe. I don't know. That's fun. Maybe it's later. I can't remember. Australia. Friday, Kevin. Oh, Friday? Yeah. Friday at three. Friday at three. Australia. Shout out to all the Australians here. Yeah, you're going to have to kick your ass. Beautiful. But you're not keeping up with it at all? I mean, I guess you are. I've been in Nick's fucking, you know, sort of dream world. What do you mean? Keeping up with the World Cup. Who cares? I will say, if they're going to make it out of this, you know, group D, whatever, then I'll start caring. And then I'll jump on the bandwagon.

22:09Like everyone jumped on the fucking Knicks bandwagon. There you go. So I can root in USA. Yeah, I can't wait. Who cares? But I will say my favorite part of all this was because the World Cup is happening here in America, there have been some amazing clips of people from around the world coming to America and trying our incredible cuisine. Yeah. It's nice to see the positivity kind of – I feel like pre-World Cup, people are like, oh, it's going to suck here. It's not set up. There's a lot of negativity swirling around the reaction and reception. And, you know, to everybody's credit in the U.S., for the most part, from what I've seen, you know, it seems like it's been going well.

22:51Been on our best behavior. Yeah, we've been OK. I mean, I don't see any problems. Like, listen, I think we're here to welcome everybody. And I just love the Japanese tourists discovering Texas Roadhouse or the British guy discovering biscuits with gravy. Like, that's, you know, very much like me traveling the world, trying English breakfasts and drinking Guinness. you know it's like you know um yeah welcome welcome to the greatest country in the world you know the scottish people were going crazy in uh oh yeah boston yeah they they took them i don't know if they took them or what i don't know what these people are doing maybe they have like months off yeah they went to a red sox game hell yeah they were just going crazy singing all the songs they were continuing to sing the songs even like into the inning wow yeah well i saw they went on getting rowdy the the great uh cop slide yeah our iconic landmark of boston yeah i mean listen we uh we have a lot to offer here um i saw uh people were surprised by our mexican restaurants giving out free uh tortilla chips oh yeah the uh i was hearing that the japanese fans were not ready for the free appetizer yeah they were getting they were kind of getting full on the chips yeah listen that's what happens man when you go out for mexican food you get full on the chips and then And you can't enjoy your fajitas.

24:05I know. That's a lesson that I think all of us have learned at a very young age is, you know, you can go crazy on the chips, but you got to stop after a basket or two. Yeah. You can't eat all the chips and salsa. Otherwise, you're just, you know, you're not going to be ready for your maintenance. Yeah. You're eating so many tortillas. That's right. Yeah, exactly. So that's a rookie behavior. But listen, that's what happened when they're traveling over here. I had some people were upset with me for criticizing British cuisine on our last episode. So I will only say that the food of Ireland and Germany was amazing.

24:34and that I loved it and that I wouldn't say that your best restaurants would be average Greenpoint establishments. I wouldn't say that. And you wouldn't say that you got food poisoning right before you got there? And I wouldn't say, I wouldn't let them know that I got food poisoning, yeah, from Frankfurt, sort of a Japanese restaurant. But that's on me. Oh, hell no. Don't eat the sushi in Frankfurt, Germany. That's on me. I made a foolish mistake. Did you get sick on the flight? Oh, yeah. It was incredibly nauseous. I almost threw up on the flight. Oh, my God. Yeah, it was a real fucking nightmare.

25:02But I'm back in the greatest city in the world And I'm back in Mom Donnie's New York City. And all is right in the world. It's 75 and sunny. The Knicks are champions. And yeah, we're here. And we should talk about the Mom Donnie RFP. The RFP is the hottest one in the city. Yeah. Are you familiar with New York City Groceries? I am. I'm familiar. It's a new initiative from the Office of Mayors, R.M. Mom Donnie. It's trying to bring down the cost of everyday groceries and household stables in New York. They'll consist of a network of five city-supported grocery stores, one in each borough by the end of 2029.

25:34The first store is expected to open its doors in late 2027. All they need is a branding and design studio. So this dropped and yeah, it became the hottest RFP in town. Oh, wow. For our New York-based design agencies. And yeah, it's hilarious and amazing. Did we submit? We did download the PDF. I will say that. I did take a look at the RFP. It's quite long. It's got a lot of length to it. It's got a lot of legal language to it. And yeah, we might have to submit. I did see some... Shout out to the person in the comments. I got to find that person who said that many people are saying that Center is the greatest to ever do it.

26:20I didn't pay that person to post that. They tagged us? They did. Of course, they said Center is... Many people are saying. And then, of course, I had to jump in and say many people are. so shout out to seven locks brands aka patrick murray he's the guy who shout to patrick i don't know this is patrick he said many so immediately zaron posted his instagram post about this rfp immediately like jessica walsh oh dream job for us at n walsh and order like let the games begin and jolene shout out to her working assembly we got you and you know everyone is like yo we want every new york design this is a dream project um and so that to me became the fun part was like the comment section of this thing.

27:00And I didn't want to go like, higher center, we're the best in the world. So shout out to fucking Patrick because he was the one that posted many are saying Greenpoint-based center is the greatest to ever do it. And then I then jumped into the fold there just saying that, confirming what he was saying that many people are indeed saying that, which shout out to him, shout out to that legend. I do not know him. So truly shout out to Patrick. Yeah, where's this energy about pitching, killing our industry? Yeah. Well, it's paid. No, no. I'm messing around. I'm kidding. It's a paid project. It's a joke, Alex.

27:34And to be honest, I think we do a great job on it. We are going for our grocery brands and our packaged goods. We do a good job there. We do do that. I'm excited about this project. I'm excited. I think it's a great project. But I do, you know, Mom Donnie, he bought the Nexus Championship in his first season. There we go. Unbelievable. And then he's put RFPs out there for design studios, trying to make groceries more affordable. What can't this guy do? I'm voting for him next year so the Knicks can win again. He's an absolute legend. And yeah, I'm excited to see what comes to this project. Obviously, it's not going to launch for a long time.

28:07I'm excited to see who it goes to. Yeah, on Polymarket, can you sort of – Ooh, that'd be good. Who do you think is going to get this one? If you find potential traders, I think you can bet on anything. Yeah, I think Pentagram is three to one. That's what I saw. Three to one? Yeah, no. I think they're the most likely. but I don't know. Yeah. I don't know who we'll go to. It's certainly going to be interesting to see what happens of it. And I also like the mom, Donnie a world cup jerseys. Did you see those fire? Yeah. And the campaign where the world comes to play. So mom, Donnie did this like whole New York city world cup campaign.

28:43He's a big sports fan, like big soccer. Yeah. Big soccer, bigger soccer fan than basketball fan. But I saw him wearing that, that, uh, is that Josh Hart jersey? I think he's been wearing, but he's been wearing it underneath his suit like every day for the last like week. Sick. And someone said that he looks like a kid mayor, you know what I mean? Just like a child that became the mayor because he's wearing his jersey underneath his suit. And that's all I can say now. Listen, I mean, the city has never been. Is he going to be in the parade tomorrow? He must be. He must be. I mean, he was the first person that tweeted.

29:14He said, parade Thursday. Did you see him meet iShowSpeed at the World Cup? I didn't see that, no. He's like, iShowSpeed's sitting like a seat or two away from him. Yeah. And I guess the chat was like, you're sitting next to the mayor. and he's like, who's the mayor? And then they dap each other up. I mean, listen, it's a great time to be a New Yorker, the greatest city in the world. And I think when this city catches a buzz like it did over the last month, and I think the buzz is still going. It's going to continue. Yeah, I think it's going to just ride out into the whole summer. And it just, it's fucking awesome.

29:43And I do think Mount Donnie gets a little bit of credit for this. I think there's a vibe in that he brings and an energy that he is a man of the people. He's out there. He's doing cool shit, working with cool illustrators, making a design RFPs, rooting for the Knicks, World Cup shit. It's all popping. New York City, baby. We're back. It's funny. Like the New York Post, whenever he's at a game, it's like, oh, quote unquote, socialist Zoran is at the Knicks game. And it's like a picture of him and like the nosebleeds. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. He said that he paid$1 ,000 to go to the Knicks game or whatever.

30:18Yeah. I mean, fuck it. Who cares? But also like he should be there. Yeah. And also, I respect him that he's not going to sit courtside. He's not going to be there in the fucking front row. He's not going to pay that money. I'm sure the Knicks would. Maybe. I don't know if Dolan goes that way. Yeah, but I think he said he bought a ticket face value or he paid that. Whatever. Who cares? The Knicks are fucking back, man. We won the NBA championship. Yeah. Or he shows up at the World Cup and they're like, wow, look at him and Hochul in a suite. And it's like, yeah, they probably should be in a seat.

30:53You know what? And Trump's got the UFC in the front lawn of the White House. And listen, everyone's doing their thing. That was such a weird weekend for them to pick to do that. Yeah. Because it's like, nobody cares. I like UFC. I don't even watch it. Yeah. I didn't even see that many clips from it. No. Like, I saw the All-American Chris Wyman was there. But of course, you know what I mean? That should have been the biggest story in all of sports. But shout out to the Knicks, you know? Yeah, the Knicks in the World Cup. Didn't stand a chance. Yeah. just yeah who would have thought ogianna noby way bigger than donald trump you know you love to see yeah um but i didn't yeah who cares ufc on the front line of the white house i'm gonna say something controversial it looked cool like yeah like yeah just like obviously like it's horrific and it's insane that like that is even possible and to think that like if if like that any other president would have done it like they would have been you know crucified and and kicked out of office but it did look kind of sick uh just to just the visual yeah the sort of the you know the just the the photography the sort of the the cage the pit there was one picture of some guy winning that was like up on the cage yeah and then he had like the white house in the background and i was like that's insane yeah it's insane for sure i mean it's the same thing with like you know how a flyover goes hard you know yeah that's what i mean there you go uh real recognized real right If something goes hard, you got to say it goes hard.

32:19Also, he walked out from the Oval Office. Did you see that? I did not see it. I thought you said you didn't see any clips. Oh, that's the one clip I saw. I saw him walk out. What's his face? You know that country star that walks out at his concerts? Morgan Wallen. He walks out from his dressing room, and then he walks with John Elway in Denver or Tom Brady in New England. He always picks someone up on the way. Travis Kelsey in Kansas City. And so Trump did one of those with, what's the UFC guy's name? Dana White. From the Oval Office to the ring, which, again, that's what they should have done.

33:02But insane. Absolutely insane. And some real design news. We should talk about the Coke World Cup hands. Because World Cup is happening. Yeah, damn right it is. people, non-NIC fans, sort of care about this kind of thing. Like I said, I will start carrying in about a week after the USA team wins one or two more games. Yeah, you got to come down a little bit. I have a parade to go to, Kevin. We can't be thinking about the World Cup. We're still celebrating here in New York. I think by Friday after the parade. You'll be ready? I'm not. No, no, no, no. I'll still be coming down. But like maybe next week, I'm ready to talk about the World Cup.

33:37I think Friday at 3 p.m., you could probably muster up the energy to watch that game. I think you're right. I think you're right. I did not watch the first game. I will be honest. I did not. But I think I could find it within myself to watch that game. But yeah, we should talk about some of the brand activation, I guess. Coke did awesome cans. Just really cool. Oh, for sure. Really cool design. Like a really cool pattern system. Really just like, really sick. And like collectible. Like that's what you want, right? If you're like a World Cup fan and you're like, you want to see this like - They're digitally collectible too.

34:06Oh, okay. Okay. less interest than that but like yeah the cans look great package design really strong really really strong um yeah and world cup like brings with like a really cool like global vibe and just yeah i like the kits from the usa team oh i really like that levi's had to take their logo off of the stadium and covered it with their logo that's a strong brand whoever did whoever had that idea that person deserves a raise yeah it's funny that like fifa is not allowing these stadiums yeah imagine putting your name or brand on a stadium and then it's like oh yeah you got to cover that up like how yeah you pay all that money to have the name on there and it's like yeah fifa yeah fifa says no so yeah that's such a weird thing to to have to do yeah but yeah shout out to levi's because they made that genius move because yeah they have that uh they know their logo is as iconic as anything and so to replace the word levi's with the levi's brand symbol is is that's a stroke of genius and uh a really really smart move um cores launched a taller boy so kevin help me understand exactly what this is it is a limited edition can that is basically looks like um it's like the height of like three or four different cans stacked on top of each other.

35:29And instead of saying Coors Light, it says Coors Light. Yes. So basically you can store three normal sized cans in it. Okay. But you don't buy it with the beer inside of it? No. It's a big cup. It's a big cup and it looks like a can. It's a big cup and they made 125 of them. Oh, we're going to need more of those. why where are they sold where are they selling these things of course's website oh they made 125 and i think they made 125 more wow um i really like this i think it's really cool it kind of looks like a mock-up i need to see a real picture of these things yeah i feel like if you're going to do this type of campaign like i get it you can have a key visual um and i'm and i'm happy to to sort of see a what seems like an ai or photoshop mocked up can visual which looks really cool but i need to see a real one of these i need to see what this looks like in real life so but yeah smart smart packaging i guess this is like goal exactly cool wow brilliant wow dude it just breaks itself yeah brilliant brilliant marketing uh shout out to the people uh drugo five all right right that's who did it shout out to them yeah is that true yep yep shout out to them i mean it's cool it's a cool idea i think like you can probably see what happened here was like what if what if we made like a triple tall boy yeah you know with beer in it and yeah logistically yeah it didn't work and they're like all right well i guess a cup is the next best thing yeah wow i mean listen we'll uh we'll take it it's cool i mean you know i'd love to see somebody you know do rip like three beers out of there yeah do a nice chug yeah i'm looking now the the knicks are doing pre-championship parade parties wednesday night oh man what okay We're just we're just trying to stretch this out here.

37:21But, you know, listen, shout out to shout out to all the establishments of Brooklyn and New York City really cashing in on the Knicks fever by having watch parties, setting up projectors inside of your restaurants that never have shown basketball or anywhere. So people got to watch. No, that's what I'm saying. I like that. It made me happy. I was like, man, like, you know, these these restaurants are, you know, getting crafty. Somebody's got to make money off this. That's what I'm saying. Everyone's trying to make money off it. And like New York City and Nick fever. So it's like every restaurant is now a sports bar.

37:51Yeah. You know what I hope? I hope that next season that this Knicks fandom doesn't wane and disappear. And maybe people will want to watch Knicks games with me on a random Friday night or a random Tuesday night. Because I just think if all these fans disappear in two weeks, which I know they will, that will be sad. Fair enough. What do you think? Do you think people will like, this team's going to make another run at it. It's not going to be a different team. We'll see. It's hard to lose. Like Mitchell Robinson or something. There's going to be some guys that are. He played well. He had some crucial minutes.

38:30But he's a free agent. There are players that are going to go there. Yeah. They won't be the same team. It's really hard to do that two years in a row. Yeah. So we'll see. We'll see. But I'm saying, will the city. I think you guys got the main core guys locked in for a little bit, right? Yeah. So I don't see why not. But will the city get excited about the regular season game more so than they did last year because they're champions? I don't know. We'll see how it plays out. All right. We'll find out. The big branding story of the week is KFC. So KFC, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Fast Food Giant has more stores than any other sort of restaurant worldwide or something like that.

39:08I mean, Fried Chicken rocks. Yeah. It's bigger and it has more stores than McDonald's, I read. I think Subway still has the most locations, but as you know, anything can be a Subway if you just stick a sandwich, just a drawer of bread and some meats in it. You have it at a gas station. But as far as global actual brick-and-mortar stores, I believe that KFC has – close to McDonald's, I believe they're one and two. So the point is KFC is a fucking big deal. and they have a rebrand by the good people at Jones & Oles Ritchie and it's great. I will say they did a really nice job and what I think is really fascinating about it is it's actually quite a rebrand.

39:52It's not subtly different. It's actually quite different. The logo is considerably different. They really cleaned up our boy, the colonel. One of the things that has always plagued the colonel was that his head was massively big, but then his tie, people thought looked like little legs. And it's one of those things that you just can't unsee when you see it once. Yeah, it's nice they gave him the collar to clear that up. Yeah, they gave him some neck. And then they turned the bucket into sort of the centerpiece of this brand identity system, which, iconic. Yeah. An iconic bucket. The bucket verse.

40:37The Bucket, enter the Bucketverse. I love it. The striped bucket is sort of the iconic KFC symbol for the brand. And they did something really smart here where they took the stripes off, but then they made the type thick enough and red so that it could act as stripes on the bucket. So you didn't have to put the type somewhere else. type of stripe because the type got weird like there was just this weird thing that happened where you had this like this big illustration of the kernel and then you had these stripes and then you had this like kfc mock lockup that was just like not working together and so they figured out a way to bring all these elements together by remove by making the type the stripes yeah and then making the sort of uh figure giant on the side and it works yeah it really works Shout out Studio Drama.

41:33Shout out to the lads. With the custom type. Yep. So of course, in any JKR project, you're going to get an iconic system. You're going to get a custom typeface. And you're going to get a lot of really great mock-ups. That is not here. I like the bucket hat, Kevin. No, I mean, that's a classic. You're doing a bucket. You're entering the bucket verse. You got to have a bucket hat. Yeah, you got to have a bucket hat. then of course like you said they cleaned up the kernel much better much much much much better you know still kept the kind of same style but when you look really closely and shout to armin on brand new of course for breaking this all down uh it's nice it's really nice i really like the spinning motion of the bucket that's really nice and really classy they're also leading into the bucket on you know more things that are not you know just like graphics that are you know i saw a commercial, I think, in the finals that was like every night of the week, they got like a bucket deal.

42:31Yeah. Shout out. It's an iconic asset. They got legs one night. They got tenders another night. They got nuggets. They're throwing everything in the bucket now. Listen, I'm not going to lie to you. It makes me hungry for some KFC. Yeah. I will say that. I'm always hungry for fried chicken. Yeah. I mean, KFC is awesome. I will say, actually, I had KFC one night in London. Yeah. I did. I did. London's food sucks. And then you'd eat in KFC? Well, it was like, actually, you know what? It wasn't in London. It was in Belfast. Okay. It was in Belfast. It was late at night. It was like two in the morning.

43:07Oh my God. And I've been known when I'm on the road to indulge my worst behavior and order Uber Eats to my hotel room. And I did eat some Kentucky Fried Chicken. And you know what? What'd you get? Did you get a bucket? I didn't get a bucket. I got a Zinger sandwich, which was kind of mid. I got some wings, which were solid. And then I got a wrap, which was actually really solid. I didn't eat everything. I just kind of ate as much as I could and passed out. But yeah, I did just have... Shout out KFC. Shout out to KFC. And I did ask some of the locals. I was like, okay, if I'm going to eat fried chicken at this time of night, what would be the best?

43:53and they were like you should go kfc so yeah kfc is fucking delicious and i'm sure international kfc it's probably even harder it hit really it really did hit hard um there's a word mark finger looking good uh that i think is nice and saucy i guess is kind of the vibes there but yeah i mean the the centerpiece is both this bucket and this typeface which i think is uh is really well done i the photography is cool one of the things that um did kind of stand out to me was the sort of negative space in the sea kind of makes like a chicken a drumstick which is cool that's a cool little secret thing i don't know if it's like totally working 100 but i like it i love the uh the uh the pendant the bucket pendant the necklace there that's really sick the bucket hat is brilliant and uh yeah this is just a job really well done by jkr doing exactly what jkr does well yeah now that you listen to the show you know you'll be able to say hey do you know there There was a drumstick in that KFC.

44:51Yeah. Yeah. Point it out to your friends. It's like the FedEx arrow. It is the FedEx arrow of the KFC chicken bucket identity here. I think it's interesting that J.K.R. also did Popeyes like a number of years ago. So, I mean, listen, that's pretty impressive. They clean up and fry chicken. Yeah. They know chicken. They got fried chicken on lock. And KFC is owned by Yum! Brands. So I'm putting my crystal ball hat on my, my looking into the future. Do they do Taco Bell next? And I could see a world where JKR gets there. If anyone was going to do it, it'd probably be them. Yeah. I mean, this is, this is what they do.

45:29And we got to get Tosh on the program. Tosh Hall, executive creative director. I was with him in London and he's down to do, he, he, he's doing press and interviews and stuff. So he, I asked him, I was like, well, you're going to, you're going to do the pot. He's like, you never asked me. I was like, I never thought you would actually do it, but he's going to, he's going to come on and we could talk about all this stuff and yes I mean listen they do a great job and this is why they get these jobs because they do it well and I think the KFC wordmark before and after like that's quite a substantial change so shout out to them I think the illustration styles are they're kind of all over the place I think that's the point like they're just like anything goes in this kind of world as long as there's a bucket in the middle of it as a window which I think is quite cool uh but i do find it to be just just a lot uh you know kind of for me that's my only negative thing about any of this is like just i feel like that like illustration styles like basically all of them as long as they sort of contain inside of a bucket or welcome yeah i think that maybe feels quite maybe we should put some parameters around that but yeah i mean the kfc like logo in a bucket on a hat looks good.

46:38Like the motion spinning out of a bucket is really, really strong. The spaces like the Dubai store. I don't know if you saw that. Like those renders are fucking wild. Some wild rendering happening over there. So yeah, shout out to them. Did a great job and always do. Packaging is really cool too. Like outside of just a bucket, like the fries and the sort of boxes and yeah. Yeah, a finger licking good job. A finger licking good job. And yeah, before we go, we got to say shout out to tom brady for the good night and go puff and go puff oh yeah this is a go puff tom brady uh collaboration they launched good nuts where do you stand on tom brady's nut kevin uh you know would you try it i would definitely try it i mean i have recently been trying once upon a coconut okay i have recently recently been indulging in once upon a coconut chocolate coconut water.

47:31Okay. And it's phenomenal. It's really, really good. I had my first one this weekend when I had food poisoning. I had the watermelon one. Fantastic. Yeah. Really, really good. Once upon a coconut. Shout out to that brand. Yeah. But we're talking about good nut. No, I know. But coconut water in a can, this is now their competition. Yeah. I'm here for it. I mean, I always like seeing people take big swings with, especially like a brand name. Yeah. We it's Tom Brady so I mean I don't really care but whatever they had to know for him they had to know that this was coming right like no one was like good nut like no one's gonna make fun of this I think right I think everyone knew they're in on this yeah everyone's in on the joke it's like you know it perpetuates itself right yeah it writes its own headlines you know you're gonna get a big bump from like oh wow did you see Tom Brady's good nut yeah yeah no i mean all the jokes the yeah yeah exactly all the jokes that have already been made yeah exactly i so you think it's promotionally smart to launch in some ways it is i think you're right like i mean i don't think it matters i don't like yeah like it's a gopuff brand i'm sure it'll move you know yeah people love getting is gopuff still a thing yeah of course have you been i haven't been gopuffing i don't i don't do any you're right you don't do any delivery yeah i forgot about that Kevin you and Thomas when I was listening to the episode Thomas had never gotten delivery food a day in his life and you you were like yeah me neither I was like what the like that that's still blowing my mind yeah so you've never had gopuff you never had seamless you never uber eats I mean like very rarely crazy very we gotta get Tom Brady's good nut on on the program here we gotta you get it here in 15 minutes we gotta try this good nut yeah we should have had some for this episode Kevin come on good nut whoops we'll have to do it next time and it's it's it's all right, Kevin, we'll get the good nut bundle and we'll have ourselves a great afternoon.

49:29Yeah. Good for Tom Brady. Yeah. Finally, something good happens to Tom Brady. Yeah. Finally, something can happen good for that guy. And yeah, finally, something good happens for the New York Knicks. Thank you to our listeners. We got some good interviews coming up over the next few weeks. And thank you all, all the international listeners, all the people that That came up to me in my travels, friends of the pod, fans of the of the stew. But, you know, friends, friends of ours. Yeah. Forever. And yeah, it's officially out. We're doing a live show and sort of off Montreal sort of plus. What's it called?

50:07Forum. Forum. Yeah. So off Montreal and forum from Casarney. I've joined forces. This is one amazing week in Montreal. I'm going to be doing a talk for off. And then Kevin and I are doing a live podcast where we're going to be interviewing studio founders of the Montreal design scene. It's going to be sick. A live podcast, aka like a Q &A session with them. Yeah. Yeah. Interviews. We're talking. We're talking. We're talking to people. We're having a conversation. Yeah. What do you think a live podcast is, Kevin? We're talking to people into microphones. Yeah. It's going to be brilliant. You should check it out.

50:44Everybody. Yeah. Stay safe out there. You think we could, could we meet after this? I have a pretty serious live podcast I need to have with you. Oh, without microphones or with microphones. All right, guys. See you next week. Peace.
