Just get some mouth tape. I'm scared of mouth tape too. Why? I just, I feel like I'll - You're scared of the unknown.
38I'll never wake up. I'll be - No, it just makes you breathe out your nose. Yeah, I don't think I can do that. Which is the best way. I don't think I can breathe out my nose. Are you a mouth breather? I'm a mouth breather. You'll start mewing. I know. I think it would be good for me, but - You've been saying this, you gotta mew. I don't breathe that well. I'm just gonna put it on the record. I'm not a great breather. I got a book for you. It's called Breath. Okay, okay. which just came yesterday. Yeah. Wim Hof? I don't know. I don't think it's him. Okay. Yeah. It's another guy. Breathing is on my list of things that I would like to get better at.
07Yeah. So maybe I should read this book. Work on your breath work. I think it's sleep, you know, like sleep, diet, exercise. These are things that I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm making big strides. Yeah. Big, huge improvements. Breathing. I'm telling you, you got a mew. I don't, what is mewing have anything to do with breathing? it helps you breathe out your nose okay if you got your tongue sucked up to the roof of your mouth you're not breathing out your mouth that's your mouth closed yeah that's anxiety that's what i got my anxiety when you put your tongue to the top of your mouth all the time do you know about that no yeah that's an anxious thing no it's mewing if you're mindful about it and you suck it up and makes your jawline better yeah that part i know but like i need to do it all day just so i breathe better you start off and it's like you know whenever you think about it and then next thing you know it's becomes a little ingrained do it you don't even realize you're doing it okay breathing
09three two one what's up nothing how you doing great uh you've been are you responsible for the Prospect Park fire. You were just talking about how you were biking around Prospect Park evening. You know, are you the culprit? Yeah, I was going too fast, creating too much friction. Yeah. Must have caught a spark. Fucking burned down the place. No, I'm not. It's crazy. It was on Friday night, you know, they had a big-ass fire. Did you hear about it? I did not hear about this at all. I was out of town, so I missed it completely. I was out of town, too, but we were tracking it, yeah. We were actually tracking it in the car.
47So what happened? There's just a fire. It's been very dry. I don't know if you've noticed, but it hasn't really rained here in a while. Which is, I mean, it rained Monday morning. Yeah, it did. But it's very dry. And yeah, optimal conditions for fire. Yeah. 81 degrees on Halloween. Yeah. That's what they're blaming. Global warming. It just ain't right. Joe Biden. Yeah. All this. Not great. Did anyone get hurt? There was a minor injury or a handful of minor injuries to firefighters. Okay. About 100 FDNY people it took to get it out. Yeah. It's a lot. I mean, it's wildfire. Wildfire. You would never think that.
33Who would have ever thought there would be an urban wildfire? No, in Brooklyn. Yeah. The photo's kind of sick. Oh, yeah. It's crazy. Yeah. It's right by the dog beach. Yeah. It would make for a good Bonnie Bear album cover. You know? something something uh moody set the set the vibes right you know some sort of brooklyn wildfire wow yeah it's beautiful i can already beautiful metaphor song yeah uh kevin are you gonna be uh i haven't seen you in a minute uh what are you talking about yeah no it's been a while what at least a week two weeks a couple days your hair grows so fast dude it's crazy like when i sit at this podcast i sit and i like i i stare deeply into your eyes and then every time i'm like man this this this hair is just you were you were i'm on steroids you were clean shaven like bald on halloween which is what 12 days ago and now you already have a full like a full hair up top you could start uh gelling that well the the top was always the top was a seven Oh, okay.
37Yeah. I didn't take it all the way down. You looked pretty clean though. Yeah, I showered last night. Did we talk about how you won a contest as the Rizzler? Oh, no, no. No, we should talk about that. I won a costume contest. Well, yeah. Congratulations. I went to a bar with some friends. Yeah, absolutely. I did bring the boom. You brought the boom. Went to, fuck, Old Stanley's or some shit in Ridgewood or Bushwick or something. My friends really wanted to do the costume contest. Okay. I didn't care. Yeah. This was November 1st or 2nd. Yeah. Oh, my God. Halloween's over for me. Yeah, way over.
14But as I complained about putting my costume back on, I did realize that it was a T-shirt and baggy shorts. Yeah, not a tough costume. And I have nothing to complain about. Yeah. And I had some friends who went all out. My friend Ian was a pirate or something. Shout out to Ian. He was a pirate? or something, I don't know. He said he was Russell Crowe. I think it was supposed to be a couple's costume, but his girlfriend's costume got stolen off the porch or something. All right. But he was very accurate to the era. He had some fucking... He had some pants. He had some pants? I don't know what they were called.
56Pants? They were very accurate to whatever era he was supposed to be. A lot of effort in the friend group. They put a lot of effort into the costumes, and I roll up in the Rizzler outfit. It's just you in a Rizzler t-shirt. Yeah, and big Jordan shorts. And they had a little show-off moment where you got to - Go on stage. Yeah, you got to do a little walk, show off. Yeah. And I was just doing my Rizz face. Yeah, that's what took at home. And the judging system was on a clap-o-meter. Okay. And I got no claps. Oh, wow. I got silence. People were not fucking with it. And then shout out to the bartenders, the staff of the restaurant or bar, whatever it is.
49They advocated for me and I won most original costume. Okay. So I got a little trophy. Oh, nice. A little skeleton trophy and I got a free shot. Wow. Wow. This is redemption because last time we were on the podcast talking about Halloween, you were talking about how your costume was a disappointment because you had to explain it to so many people. Sign of a tough costume, I think, generally, when people are like, what are you? Can you explain it to me? Well, yeah, I just was kind of sick of explaining it to people without culture. Yeah, exactly. People don't know the Rizzer. Yeah. Disgusting. Gross.
23And then this is grand redemption. Yeah. You took home a trophy. and I'm happy to hear it. It was worth it. Yeah. No, in the end. In the end, it was worth it. Yeah, sweet, sweet. I have two Rizzler shirts now that are probably... Yep. I don't know if I'm going to be wearing them anymore. Yeah, you got six weeks max on those Rizzler shirts. I would actually... You think he's going to fizzle out? I think he's already fizzling out. What's he going to do? Because he's at school. Yeah, yeah. I mean, he's... Let him live. Yeah, but what's he do next? He's got a... He's going to keep making videos, dude.
58Why does everything have to be this like, oh, you got to level up and level up and level up and level up. Why can't we just enjoy? Yes. Why can't we just enjoy things how it is? Because that's what we do here. We build people up and then we break them down. That's not what I do. You know? And then, no, I'm saying us as a culture. And then we maybe build them back up again. Oh, remember this kid? He was the Rizzler. You feel old now? When he's like 25. He's at college. He's probably going to rock. He's like a great kid. yeah the video where he's behind the curtain will never not make me laugh when he's just kind of like the father I guess whoever the guy that's like an OG video it just cracks me up even thinking about his face it's just genuinely a good time it's fair but I do think all good things must come to an end until we bring them back we should probably taper our Rizzler talk No, I know.
54Why? I think we should do a graphic. How many days since we've talked about the Rizzler? It's a lot. A week. It's never gone over. It hasn't gone over seven since. I've had people come up to me, or at least on DMs, send me a message, and they're like, love the podcast, big Rizzler fan. That's our main point of our podcast. They should know. We're putting them onto the primo internet culture. That's true. What do you got now? Who is the next Rizzler, I guess? Who are we looking for? I'm trying to find the Rizzler within. Okay. I'm doing some personal work. Okay, that's good. A little last TikTok?
36Oh, yeah. Trying to lower the screen time of the reading time. I just balled out on thrift books. Spent like 90 bucks on books that are about meditation and breathing and eating. Wow. And mindfulness. Wow. That's what I'm fucking on. Trying to work on my body for ski season. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. This is big. Kevin is starting to. Very stoked. Yeah. Kevi Shreddy. Yeah, I'm ramping up. You're like Mariah Carey. You come out of the frozen sort of ice, and then we'll see Kevin once a week at work. Yeah, definitely. He'll be taking some personal days, some sick days. Yeah, you'll be lucky. You'll be lucky to see me.
19We'll be so lucky. I mean, Kevin, you and most people around this time of year start to think about new year, new you. You know, the holiday seasons, it's tough to stay in shape. I've been feeling this a little bit. Weather is colder. My 40th has come and gone. I needed a new goal. So I signed up for the New York Marathon. Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's something I've always wanted to do. It's something that I have not felt in good enough shape to even attempt to do ever in my life. and I feel like I needed something to work towards and also what better time than the present. Yeah, that'll be great. Yeah, bucket list goals, I feel like are, I don't have too many of them.
03Yeah. And this is on there. So yeah, no better time than the present. Definitely. You should, I rode the marathon route. Okay. The morning of the marathon. No way. I got up very early. Okay. Ripped the absolute living shit out of that. 26.2? Yeah. What'd you do? um do you know the time uh actually we it wasn't 26 points it ended up being longer because the cops wouldn't let us on the queensborough bridge yeah yeah we had to backtrack yeah well some people whatever yes anyway you should uh it's a long you should over index a little bit on your training because there's a lot of elevation it's a lot of run yeah yeah there's a lot of hills you're going yeah it's surprising amount of hills yeah you wouldn't really think so i've heard that yeah just not great keep it in mind not great i mean 26 miles is a fuck ton of miles i'm i'm starting to definitely it's starting to sink in what i've kind of uh committed to and i think i'll be able to get there like i think my uh training over the last year has made me believe that definitely if i put my mind to something and i set a goal i think it's mental i think it's mostly mental well just do some do some you know hills because you're gonna need it you're gonna yeah I've heard on Good Authority as well that it's probably more – it's a difficult one.
20Yeah, the weather was perfect this year. So that's another thing I'm nervous about or hoping for is if you get that type of weather, it's an enjoyable day. Everyone's outside. Everyone's cheering. You got music. New York comes alive. Anyone can run the New York City Marathon in the sun. That's right. I know. I'm worried about a rainy kind of cold day. No, that's even cooler. That's when the real dogs come out. Yeah, I don't know that I need more. adversity on a 26 mile run. But yeah, I'm not training just yet, but I'm thinking about it. I'm thinking about it, but I'm going to do it. Maybe I'll go to Mark Wahlberg's new gym.
56Oh, that'd be great. Municipal Gym, a fitness recovery. That's what it's called. And we have a quote from him, which I really appreciate here. The first time in history that luxury and serious fitness meet. shot at equinox shots fired equinox could never uh basically it's opening in nevada recovery rejuvenation therapy juice bars cafe retail stores only the best vitamins and supplements for you big crazy collapse pretty sweet actually i fuck with this yeah you're in Bro's just making like, I mean, he's just, he loves working out. Yeah. And he's just making a place that he wants to go hang out.
45Yeah. I fuck with the vision. We've talked about his schedule, right? He wakes up at 2.30 in the morning. Yeah. And then he prays and then he eats breakfast at 3.15 a.m. It can't be healthy for you. I mean, you're certainly supposed to rise with the sun and sleep. He works out from 3.40 to 5.15. Two things. One, that's so fucking early. And two, that is a long ass workout. Well, have you seen his body, dude? He's putting in the work. I will say. He's not sitting at a computer all day. I think Wahlberg is a guy that probably has like 30 businesses, right? He's got the burger place. He's got probably multiple production companies.
22He's making money off of all these shitty movies he makes. Of course. And this one kind of makes sense, right? I'm actually surprised he didn't already have a gym. Yeah, this could just be a passion project for him. Yeah. He said, giving insight into what fitness customers can expect from a municipal gym, mentioning his early morning training regime that went viral, the 4 a.m. club. Yeah. We'll be training together. We'll be showing people what they are capable of doing. I'm going to document all of your success. We're going to create a new platform where people get the recognition they deserve for the work they put in.
56I'm fired up. Yeah, dude. I'm about to run through a fucking wall. Yeah, 4 a.m. Maybe just go out to Nevada and start training, Alex. Yeah. Get some desert training. I think you're right. I think I need to start training to go to this gym. Don't forget to stay prayed up, though. Yeah, that's true. I got to wake up at 2 to pray. What time does he go to bed? Ooh, 7.30. That's not enough sleep for me, I don't think. 7.30 to 2.30? I mean, I guess that makes sense with daylight savings if it's getting... I mean, 2.30. 2.30 is insane. You should be sleeping a little bit longer. 2.30 a.m. is insane. Yeah, this is crazy.
30I think the earliest acceptable time to like willingly, like if you don't have any other priorities or like if you're not like going to late work or early work, you just have your own free will. I think 4 a.m. is probably the earliest you should be waking up. He works out twice in this schedule he has for himself. Yeah, because he's fucking shredded. If you want to look like Mark Wahlberg, you got to work like Mark Wahlberg, dude. Yeah, he doesn't have any time for. He doesn't really work in the schedule, which is pretty sick. He's got family time from 11 a.m. to 1, which is also the same time that he has meetings and work calls.
09And then he's got another hour of work calls. This dude works two hours a day while also being with his family. So this is aspirational. He's got his priorities in line. No, I mean, this makes a lot of sense. Like I said, I'm pretty surprised that he wasn't in the fitness business already. I'm sure he's had some deals or some partnerships. Municipal is the premier fitness apparel line. Oh, I was going to say, what's with the name? That's the - Yeah, you don't know Municipal? I don't know Municipal. Is that a brand? Yeah, you got to stay prayed up, dude. Oh my God. Is it the workout clothes? Yeah.
45Oh man. You know it. I have some. You're right. He's kind of making those weird videos. Okay, yeah. Just makes a bunch of bad basics. Municipal. I don't know if they're bad basics. I've never worn them. No, me neither. What is the definition of municipal? Relating to a city or town or its governing body. It doesn't matter. It's just vibes, bro. It's just a vibe. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not, I don't know. I'm not here for the clothing line. I think the clothes look bad. I'm not. I'm not feeling this. But I think the gym, I mean, it makes a lot of sense. Yeah, I guess I got to go out to Nevada. Yeah, I'm a line mark.
25I'm down. I want to be in the 4 a.m. club. Oh, speaking of, we should probably say this now. Who do you got? Tyson or Paul? Oh, my God. Tyson. You got Tyson? Yeah. There's no way that Tyson wins this fight. I'm happy to take the other side here. I don't see Mike Tyson falling or playing the little Paul games. He's 58 years old, which is actually... Yeah, but he's one of the greatest boxers to ever live. Yeah, but... He's still got it. Jake Paul is 27. That's such a big difference in age. Jake Paul is a fucking wimp on steroids. I'm actually surprised by Mike Tyson's age. Maybe it's because I'm getting so old, but like 58.
08He's right on the cusp of maybe being able to fight. Like I thought if you would have asked me like how old is Mike Tyson? Have you seen any videos of him? What? Of him going at it again? You still got it. No, people fall for these videos every single time. every time Jake Paul fights someone, they're like, oh, did you see the videos of the guy he's fighting? And then he gets in the ring, and you're like, oh my god, why did I fall for those videos? He's always fought scrubs. That's what I'm saying. You think Mike Tyson's a scrub? No, Mike Tyson in his prime. Are you going to go on record on Mike right here?
37No, I think he's... You're calling out Mike Tyson? I think he's 20 years past his prime, and I think that matters a lot. I disagree. You're going to bet on it? I don't think you could just go into a training program at 58 and just fight a 27-year-old who is not a professional boxer, but very close. He's the Brawny James of boxing. You know what I mean? He's not really a professional, but he can play. He's close. I wouldn't say he's the Brawny James, but... Jake Paul is not a professional boxer. He's a... I mean, I guess he technically is professional, but he's not at the level of a professional champion.
17I feel like I hope Mike Tyson eats his lunch. Again, I agree. I wish he would, but I just don't think that like Jake Paul, 27. Jake Paul's got to lose too. He's got to lose one. No, he does. But I think if he wanted to lose one, he'd fight a real boxer. Mike Tyson is a real boxer, dude. No, he was a real boxer. I know, but that's why he's fighting him because Jake Paul is not at that level to fight an actual real boxer in his weight class. There's a Netflix doc. I'll probably watch that. It's a doc? It's like a 24-7, like HBO sort of behind the scenes of training, which, again, I'm not proud that I'm going to watch it, but I will watch it.
00Yeah, it'll be fine. And then the fight's on Netflix on Saturday. On Saturday? Yeah, it's this week. Interesting. Interesting. Yeah. I might tune in. Yeah. I mean, is Tyson favored? Who's favored in this fight? I don't know. I don't know if any reputable book allows you to bet on him. Really? Yeah. Interesting. I just... I would guess that Tyson is favored. Yeah, I think he is. Yeah, he is. I just don't think it makes sense. Oh, speaking of reputable books, I got served up an ad for this website platform where you can gamble on like... The election? Yeah, the election. Is it Kashi? Yeah, it's...
44Or Kalashi? or Kalshi, whatever the fuck it is. But you can bet on average gas price till the end of the year. It's insane. A little inside baseball here, Kevin. I spoke to them about two months ago about doing their advertising for the election. Yeah. And we turned it down. At the time, we were just too busy. And they had no time. They were like, oh, we need to get our creative ready for the election. I was like, it's in two weeks or whatever.
14I thought it was a cool idea. I mean, it makes sense that you can bet on things that aren't sports. Yeah. And I just don't know how they became the sort of brand, but apparently$100 million were wagered on election night. That's insane. Which is pretty fucking crazy. That's wild. Mm-hmm. Betting on real life stuff is kind of, I don't know. Yeah. I honestly, I trust the integrity of sports more than I trust the integrity of some of that market manipulation type shit. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. Jake Paul is favored in this fight. Tyson. Oh, really? Yeah. Which I think, again, I think that's the right move.
52I'm putting a paycheck on Tyson. Okay. I think in Tyson's prime, he is 50 to 1. You know what I mean? Like he is, it's not even remotely close fight. I don't think Tyson is going to win this fight. I just think he's too old. I think he's too old. You think Tyson's going to go out there and let himself lose? I think people are... Jake Paul? Yes, yes, he's going to take the bag. And I think you're just, I think people think the name Mike Tyson, and they picture the baddest man on the planet, you know, fucking knocking people out and just absolute dominance. He's still bad, dude. That was a long-ass time ago, though.
30That was so long ago. He's still bad. Yeah, I don't think he's got this. I think Jake Paul knows exactly what he's doing. He is fighting yet another person who has a name or something that could drum up attention. I think people will watch the Netflix show. I think people will watch the Netflix fight. And this is everybody wins. Tyson will get a bag. Jake Paul will post more dumb Instagrams. And everyone will eat more Lunchleys. That's Logan Paul, right? Everybody's going to wear his W. What? Oh, the W deodorant? Dubs, yeah. Yeah, no. What a great brand. Amazing. Good for everybody. I'm happy for everybody involved here.
10Yeah, I'm sure there will be a lot of W logos everywhere. Yeah, no, I'm sure. Yeah. Someone's got to buy that stuff, right? I'm sure that a lot of people, I'm sure a lot of impressionable youths are buying that brand. Yeah. Kevin, we've got a rebrand. Rebrand of the week. It's A &W. A &W counted as a fast food hamburger chain. Have you ever been? No. Me neither. I think of A &W as a soda company, but it's a chain, right? They do both. They do both, obviously Root Beer, but I know them more for the Root Beer than I know them for the Root Beer. Well, they're rooted in Root Beer. They're rooted in Root Beer?
49Yeah. And who did this rebrand, Kevin? Because I am looking on brand new, and it was done by Rethink. Not familiar. But are they, let's see what they're there. They did rethink it. They did rethink it. And it looks like they did a nice job, right? It's fun. They brought in some fun colors. They brought in some Seraph-y, warm typefaces. They made some better photos. What else did they do? They made some illustrations. In the spirit of modern heritage, they updated the mascot, which is really nice. The pantsless mascot. I believe we've talked about him before. Oh, yeah, that's right. Um, yeah. Didn't put pants on him.
35No. Why would you? I don't know. I mean, he's wearing a shirt. Yeah. He's a great mascot. That dude. Yeah. What's the line on, uh, when, when do we need to give mascots pants? Yeah. No, mascots don't need pants. Uh, yeah. But they need shirts. I think here's what I'm going to say about this. I think we're getting to a place where this style and this type of design just feels like the norm. It looks good, but I just don't know that it's memorable or distinct, which I think are critical parts of branding. And I don't think anyone would look at this and say this is bad design. But I think as far as branding goes, it just feels like Burger King adjacent.
30and it's a burger place, right? So, I mean, I think it's a nice job. I think they've made all the right moves, right? They took the mascot, they cleaned him up, they made him simpler, they kept the no pants on, they animated him a bit, they brought in supporting characters, they brought in cool typefaces, they brought in nice warm colors, they did the thing, they did the refresh. But I just find it to be a little referential. Sure. And I think that's fine. But I just don't know that I'm like, oh, my God, did you see what they did? It just feels like, you know, it's a nice update. Yeah. It's a bit of a slow week.
25So it's a bit slow week. But you know what? Again, like I think we need to talk about it. Like this is what this is what happens in design, right? When a project like a Burger King comes out and it nails something and it gets a lot of attention, a lot of awards, a lot of people, eyeballs, et cetera, then you get your other chains that are going to be inspired by it. And I think that's the story here is like good branding sets trends and that is okay, but it doesn't necessarily make you stand out against those trends when you're the third or fourth or fifth fast food establishment that kind of has a similar aesthetic.
20But I think it makes sense. I think the colors and all the sort of adjustments that they've made look nice, but I don't know. I don't know if it feels unique or special. But I've never been to an A &W. And I don't see any updates to the root beer, which I love root beer. You, not so much. No, you're not a huge fan. I think root beer is on my Mount Rushmore of beverages. That's gross. Yeah, it's up there. I know your burps smell crazy. Dude, I mean, it's just a delicious drink. I think if I'm at a restaurant and I'm having dinner, I could have a cocktail or I could have a root beer and I'll be equally as happy.
13and maybe that makes me a baby. I didn't say that. I'm just saying. The Great Roop Beer, his name, it's a bear. Yeah. Great Roop Bear. Yeah. That's great. Rudy, for short. Oh, wow. Was introduced in the 1970s. Papa Burger, Mama Burger, Baby Burger, and Teen Burger. Nice. Nice. Yeah, so... One big happy family at NW. They flattened. They flattened, and they brought in some serifs. Oh, they upgraded them. And they upgraded their Rudy. We love a mascot. Yeah, the mascot is really fun. Yeah, they need to just probably lean into the mascot. Yeah, I agree with that. Kevin, we already talked about the marathon, but let's talk about it again.

56Were you out there outside of biking? Or were you out there rooting on the people of New York? Hell no. No? No. I mean, not hell no, but I was pretty cooked after my bike ride. After your bike, yeah. But there was a bunch of stories that came out of it. But the big story that I saw on LinkedIn and Twitter and a lot of other places was, oh, my God, Nike nailed their out-of-home campaign. And what that out-of-home campaign was, was a series of orange billboards that had Futura Condense Bold with lines like, people will talk about today's commute for years. finally tourists willing to pick up their pace.
43Running is awful. I love it. You've come hundreds of miles to get here, only 26.2 to go.
53And yeah, people loved it. People were really into it. And I will say I love the Nike Run logo. That's a Porto Rocha special where they replace Nike in the Nike logo with Run. It's one of those things that just like, is so simple and so brilliant and, uh, just so wonderful that you kind of expected that they already did it, but it was something that apparently they, they, they, they didn't do. And so they, uh, are using that for all their Nike running, uh, advertisements and also their app, which I really love. I love that orange color. Yeah. You know, just kind of having a unique campaign that ties everything together.
36This, they've really leaned into this orange Nike color, as of late. I really like that. It makes me think of Nike. It's the color of their box. It's the color of their box. And I don't think of Nike as like a Tiffany type brand where they are aligned to one color. But I do like how they have been taking that approach for a lot of their stuff that they've been doing for like Olympics or now this for the marathon. So I'm a fan of that. I don't think these lines are all that special. If you don't hate running a little, you don't love running enough. It's like, I'm not saying it's bad. Do you run, bro?
17I'm not saying it's bad. I agree with everyone that's saying it's good. But I just think the, you know how it goes with the internet, where we either, it's either got to be the greatest thing on planet Earth, like Nike won the marathon, like everybody talking about how brilliant this copywriting is. I think it's good. I don't think it's as great. Only 23 one-mile runs left. It's real. Yeah, I get it. The hardest line to cross is the starting line. That's facts, too. Yeah. I mean, listen, it's not bad. Listen, you were talking about it. You haven't crossed. Have you crossed the starting line yet?
56I haven't yet. There you go. That's facts. It's factual. I got 11 months to figure that shit out. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. No, I mean, listen, maybe when I'm out there running and I see this Nike campaign, I'm going to be like, oh, yeah. Yeah, you probably need that. That's so me. I think the finally tourists willing to pick up their pace line. That's a good one. That's probably the best one. That's probably the one that I think deserves the accolades. But I don't know. Everything else is kind of. Well, you never know with how things shake out. It could have been a little more edgy like the tourist line.
30Yeah. It's just been watered down a bit. But I don't know. I don't have a problem with it. Like, I don't know. I don't want to shit on runners, but it's... So I won't, actually. Oh, yeah. You don't want to. I'm not going to shit on... I'm not going to drink Haterade or spread Haterade. Okay. I think it's good. I think it's good. As a copywriter. As a copywriter. I like the Taurus line. I thought that was fun. Yeah, no, it's good. It's kind of like the grail of this entire campaign. I agree. And you can't have bangers on every billboard. I mean, but I just think... Also, here's a valid point. You don't want marathon runners to be chuckling.
18You got to keep them kind of tame so they're not like... They can't be losing that oxygen with laughing. They need to stay locked in. You know what I'm saying? And if you have too many lines like, oh, finally tourists willing to pick up their pace and you got people cackling while they're running the marathon, they're going to lose minutes or seconds off their time. Yeah. It's not in the spirit of running. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. I mean, it just feels like my dad used to say, running is like hitting yourself with a hammer. It doesn't feel good, but it feels amazing when you stop or something like that.
55And it just feels like... See, that's tripping along. Is my dad one of the world's greatest copywriters? or is that just like running like cliches? I don't know. Do you have to be the world's greatest copywriter? No, I'm not saying my dad is the world's greatest copywriter. I'm just saying that under these, if this is world-class, like award-winning, oh my God, copywriting, then my father is ready. Let's get him in here. Yeah, I mean, listen. Let's get him in here, dude. He's probably got some other bangers. He's probably better than me. I mean, that one's good. Running is like hitting yourself with a hammer.
34Yeah, I'm sure he's got a couple other ones, but I guess it just resonates, right? I guess it resonates with runners and it resonates with New Yorkers. Yeah, just trying to be like, oh, that's so me. That's so me. That's so me. Only 23 one-mile runs left. I do that. It's a good way to look at it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. At the three-mile mark. Yeah, what are they going to say? Give up now? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Turn around? Fine, that's a good one. I like only 23 one-mile runs. Yeah, see? Yeah. There you go. Yeah. If you don't hate running a little, you don't love running enough. I'm sure that's true, right?
03Yeah. I don't run. Is that true? Maybe. Sure. Fine. I'm coming around. The campaign's good. I've never said it wasn't good. It just wasn't. No, you're just saying. You're simply saying it's good work, but it's been sensationalized. It's been, yeah, it's been turned into this thing. I mean, that's just everything. I love the orange, though. I do love the orange. Yeah. you're sipping the Haterade but yet you're coming around on a lot of the things that you like I do like the design of it and I think when you are doing something like a marathon campaign takeover simplicity is best and so I think they nailed that where as soon as you see one of those orange signs with their iconic typeface you're like Nike what would you have the billboard say Alex let's move on Kevin You know that Wicked is the movie.
00Yeah, everyone's very hyped about it. Everyone's hyped on Wicked. Colors are pink and green, speaking of color stories. I've never seen Wicked. I've never seen the play or the Broadway show. I kind of want to see it, actually. You should. I should go see it. You should go see it. But the movie adaptation is coming for the holiday season. It seems to be the big movie of the year, or maybe Ariana Grande. is stars. And yeah, I'm somewhat interested. And why we're talking about it is they're going for the Barbie collab record. They are everywhere. Oh, yeah. There's literally hundreds of different types of partnerships.
43I'm sure there's some article that rounds them all up for us, but it seems like they are trying to run the Barbie playbook, which is there's no such thing as too many partnerships. I got a list, Kevin. You want to hear it? Yeah. Forever 21, Bloomingdale's, Caseify, Shark Beauty, Crocs, Rem Beauty, Sidney Evan, Samsung, Gap, Claire's, Bice, which is the suitcase, Rebecca Minkoff, Beekman, Tartan, Makeup Erase. It's like 10 beauty brands already. Pernod Ricard, Limadition, Kalua, Malibu, Absolute and more, Cambridge Bags, Con Air, a hair Dyson diffuser, It Cosmetics, Ulta exclusive, H &M. They did H &M and Gap.
42I saw Target on TV. That's another one. Vera Bradley, Ground Up. That's a pair of Walmart sneakers. So they did a Walmart collab and a Target collab. Foster Grant, Sunglasses, Theory 11, which I guess is another t-shirt company. Marks & Spencer, Stanley, of course. Squishmallows, Insights Edition, Advent Calendar, Justice. Apparently they make sweatpants. Aldo, another sneaker company. Bombas for socks. This list is still going. Caboodles. What is that? A cosmetics case. Betty Crocker, Rice Krispie Treats, OPI, a nail brand, Mattel. Of course, you got to have Mattel toys. Monopoly, Lego, Fisher Price, Wet Brush, Funko Pop.
36Goddamn. Bitty Boomers. I'm up to 50 now. HarperCollins. There's a book. Hot Topic. Another luggage company, Full Luggage. Her Universe is doing backpacks. Beloved is making candles. Great value is a private grocery label. So they're doing artificial colors of cheese. Kipling, which is another bag collection. Lounge Fly. And that's it, Kevin. Oh my gosh. Everyone's trying to get in on the fun. 56 collabs. Just in this one article. And there's probably more than that. Well, when you're doing a lot of collabs, maybe things start to slip through the cracks a bit. Yeah. So that's funny because when you're doing this much collabing, you hope that one of these goes viral, right?
27You're like, oh man, this is a big moment. These Forever 21 sweatshirts or Target collab, they have some pretty great commercials. There's more, Marc Jacobs. But the thing that everyone is talking about is that on one of their toys that sends you to wicked.com. And unfortunately for wicked, the movie wicked.com takes you to a different domain. And, uh, it is not a domain that is, uh, is safer for safe for kids. This is, uh, yeah, this is a Mattel. So it's a tough one. It's a tough one. Explain what wicked.com is. I think I got it across. Well, this is a podcast. Yeah, I think people understood that not safe for work website, not safe for kids website is porn.
27Yeah, apparently wickedmovie.com is the correct website. Wicked.com. I mean, I guess the question is how quickly are they trying to change the packaging, put a sticker over it, maybe buy Wicked.com? I mean, they have enough money with all these partnerships. But yeah, parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Customers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link. May contact Mattel customer service for further information. Damn, 25 years of award-winning movies. Pretty sweet. They made a... Wicked.com?
09Yeah. I mean... Oh, wow. They've got a... Stormy Trump's All. Okay, okay. A little story. Stormy Daniels one. The Wicked domain has been the registered owner since 1994. Yeah, it looks like they're... Yeah, they're... It looks like they're making great cinematic pieces. Yeah, just like Wicked the movie. Yeah. Shout out to the graphic designer. Yeah. Whoever this is going to fall on, tough lie for you. I'm sure it was – we've all been there putting a placeholder copy in. Exactly. That's what I was thinking. Where does the buck stop? Who's going to have to answer for this? Who is the designer? I feel bad for them because obviously like – That laid out the back of this box and put in wicked.com.
58Or the copy editor. Yeah, just kind of didn't really think too much of it. It was like, oh, yeah, maybe that's the website. We'll fill this in later. Someone will change this if that's not the website. You know what I think it actually is? Yeah, what do you think? I think it's just a symptom of the industry that we are in. Everyone wants everything so fast. There's no pre-planning. Everything's got to be done now. And this is what happens. You try to rush a collab that you've probably known about for a year, probably trying to get it done in like two weeks. And here's the details that went to print.
33And I think, to be fair, to just everybody involved, nobody is reading that small copy and going to wicked.com. No, I agree. No one was going to that website. Yeah, the click rate or the... I mean, it'd be one thing if it was a click rate, if you could click on it, maybe that's a lot worse. But he was typing in wicked.com. Come on. Nobody was going on. No kid was going to read the back of that box and then type in that website to try to get to the movie. But now that this is public and has become a story, everybody knows. And I think, Kevin, you're right. I think in this age of capitalism and commercialization of every movie that comes out, maybe 65 clabs was too many.
23Maybe five tasteful clabs. Sure. And maybe you spend a little bit more time on those clabs. Yeah, you ain't minions too. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. And maybe we didn't need that many beauty partnerships. Maybe we didn't need seven different collections at Ulta and Gap and Target. Maybe you should get the details right. And this is what happens when you do 65 clabs and one of them just happens to have a misbrane. Yeah. And again, to be fair to all those involved, I'm on the website right now. Okay. Yeah. I'm on wicked.com right now. Yeah. Yeah. And there was a splash page that said, please verify you're human.
07So, couldn't even get in there. Yeah. And then there's a, please verify that you're over 18 page. Obviously, I am. So, I checked it. And then when you get to the landing page, there's not even really explicit content. There's not like, I mean, there's like suggestive things, obviously, but there's nothing like super explicit or visually, you know, there's not like nudity or like graphic depictions of the scene. This is a classy production company. They're not spilling their secrets. They want you to buy the movie. So they're not putting the stuff out there for free. You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
47I asked ChatGPT how many partnerships, and they said over 60. Wow. Pretty impressive. And yeah, they're out here. And you're right. At least the website doesn't take you immediately to - Yeah. It's not like you're going to a freaking hub. Yeah. You got to click a couple things. Yeah. You got to click a couple things. And hey, does this bring more attention to the movie? Definitely. Third eye open. Yeah. this is probably the best thing to happen. This is done on purpose. This is my favorite collab. The Wicked Productions movie collab. Yeah, the Mattel. The Mattel dolls with Wicked.com. You know what would be fire?
28What, Kevin? If they started a production. If they started a Wizard of Oz slash Wicked production. Another partnership. Why are they only partnering with fashion brands and beauty companies and suitcase companies when there's other, you know, there's other ways to get people talking. Let's just say that. Yeah, we're talking. Yeah. Beyond, you know, fashion, beauty, home decor, and just one... Listen, no harm, no foul. No harm and no foul, except for maybe one or two kids that got... There's no... Kevin, speaking of brand partnerships, Grillo's Pickles is back. Oh, yeah. Their partnerships team is working pretty hard over there, too.
16Oh, yeah. We'll have to ask ChatGPT how many Grillo's Pickles partnerships are there. They're getting out there. The latest one is with a toothpaste company called Boca, and they made a Grillo's Pickled flavored toothpaste. Sure. Kevin, as a Grillo's Pickles enthusiast, are you going to purchase? Definitely not. I am in the market for new toothpaste. So if anyone's got any recs, I'm very open. Maybe if there was some sort of function or benefit to using pickled flavored toothpaste, I could maybe get on board. But I think I'm going to sit this one out. I'm going to appreciate it from afar. If you really are a pickle freak and you want to get this, I think more power to you.
05But I don't know. I mean, now I am kind of curious. Yeah. My brain is doing the gymnastics to get me there. Yeah. You like these pickles. This is your brand. I love these pickles. Yeah. You have the water bottle. I would die for these pickles. One thing I will say about Grillo's pickles, and I think especially for this rollout, is the way that they rolled it out was particularly fun and lighthearted. They literally said, like, no one asked for this. Yeah. And I feel like that's the way you're going to do this. Nobody, nobody at all. Nobody, nobody at all. Grillo's toothpaste. And I feel like that's the fun spirit of the brand that I think you like and also we appreciate on this show is if you're going to be doing brand partnerships and you want to do sort of one of these like left field kind of out of the box things, you can't pretend like it's, you know, sort of not a gag gift.
54It's also just nice and refreshing to see a PR team not like, it's like a genuine response or like genuine, like something you would actually say. It's not like coded in several layers of like corporate brand speak that's directly out of some sort of manual. Yeah. Like that team of like four people, you know, worked a week on to draft the statement. It's just kind of like, yeah. Yeah. Fucking toothpaste. Yeah, no, for sure. I mean, their VP of branding, Eddie Andre, shout out to him, said, I thought it would be a nice stocking stuffer, a gag gift. It actually tastes good. It's cucumber dill. It's actually quite refreshing.
35Beautiful. That's a beautiful statement. I'm in. I'm in now. Yeah. Being self-aware that no one asked for this, but we're doing it. It's kind of a way to go about it, he says, because it's supposed to be fun. It's supposed to be lighthearted. It's not for everybody. Brilliant. Amazing. That's it. Exactly. I agree. Right. I know what I'm getting you for Christmas, Kevin. Hold on. I will have to say one thing on the topic before we move on. Savory or non-mint tasting toothpastes are apparently a thing overseas. Shout out to Andrea, who was reporting on this story and saying that this is part of a bigger trend.
16And personally, I brushed my teeth this morning with peach iced tea, high smile toothpaste. What? Peach iced tea? Peach iced tea. Tastes like Snapple. What? Yep. That's a fact. And what I will say is my mouth does not taste very clean. So I have a bit of an issue. Maybe it's just the way that I've been programmed. It could just be conditioned, you know? Yes. So in my house, we have peach iced tea and also have like a raspberry one. I don't know exactly what the flavor is there, but we have a peach one and a raspberry flavored toothpaste from High Smile is the brand. From the internet. From the internet.
03What's your dad think about that? It's funny. I haven't asked him, but the only time I use it is when I'm out of Colgate. Yeah. So that's when you know I need to sort of go to the store and re-up on some real toothpaste. It gets the job done somewhat, but it's not the same. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. Have you ever used flavored toothpaste? No. I hate mint, but yet I just – I'm just an adult about it, I guess. Suck it up. I just know I need to – I just know I need to do it. Yeah. But I do think that cinnamon is worse. I think cinnamon to me is a worse flavor than mint. The one that I have is strawberry.
47So I have strawberry and peach iced tea. So it does taste like Snapple. That's kind of the vibe. When you get done, do you just swallow? It's quite delicious. It just doesn't make my mouth feel fresh. But the packaging is cool and it's definitely a TikTok thing. Yeah, I don't know if every experience needs to be like a yummy experience. I don't think every experience needs to be the greatest thing ever. We're just maxing at this point. Yeah. Maxing everything out. But whatever. Go off. Good for you. Good for you, Flavor Toothpaste. 1.6 million followers on Instagram for High Smile. So they're doing something right.
25They got candy cane toothpaste. I mean, that makes a little bit of sense. At least it's minty. Blue raspberry sherbet, red velvet, Barbie. So they got a Barbie. Where's their Wicked Club? They should have it. They have a matcha. Matcha. Yeah, I mean, listen, it's here. Gummy Bear. I think this, as someone who has used this and has it in their bathroom at home, I think it's just not real toothpaste. You know what toothpaste I like? Yeah. You probably have to brush your teeth like every seven minutes. I like Marvis. Marvis. Yeah, you would. Yeah, yeah. That's like a real. I got it in Italy and it was Primo.
05Yeah. Yeah. Primo, primo, primo. Yeah, definitely. Well, we'll keep an eye on this toothpaste development. But yeah, I've never heard of Boca either. Boca-de-s nuts. Nailed it, dude. Yeah. There was also a brand I saw yesterday that is making sort of like high-end new kind of toothbrushes. What's high-end about them? They just like are designer. shout out to chloe she posted on her instagram uh some sort of like high-end fancy toothbrush and i i was kind of here for it i thought it was kind of cool let me look up the brand so we can give them some love on the podcast and uh support this will give them a huge bump definitely huge bump maybe they'll sponsor the pod yeah probably we'll see let's see let's see it was gone 24 hours ago so I'll never see it again well that's good shout out to that toothpaste company we'll have to follow up we're notoriously very good at following up with stories like this Kevin before we get out of here remember Sega yeah they made Sonic the Hedgehog they still exist This is a real story.
31From Fast Company, they made a dumb pager that only sends one emoji. The device can send 1 ,400 different emojis that can be sent one-on-one messages or a group chat up to five. Cool. Yeah. So I guess dumb phones are a thing. i've always thought about getting one of those dumb phones like the light phone yeah where all you could do is like call people but i feel like i hate to say it i just would never take it like i would just never bring it anywhere i would never use it so and they're kind of expensive and i think you also have to get like its own plan for the phone like you can't just like tether it to your iPhone.
20And let's be fucking perfectly honest here. I'm not, I'm addicted. Yeah. I can't, there's no weaning off at this point. And I don't think I'm the only one. Yeah, definitely not. I think we're all, as a society, we're fucked. The phone is, the phone addiction is real. And I'm sorry, Sega. I think it's for kids. Oh, it's for children. I think it's like kind of for children. Okay. I don't know. Are you getting one for the holidays? Absolutely not. But I am kind of into the idea of like sending one emoji. Yeah, no, that's a cool idea. You could do that like on your phone too. You could just send one emoji.
04But you know, you hit a group chat with an emoji and everyone's like, what the fuck does this mean? It's like, figure it out. Well, then just, well, you got to hit him with the right emoji. Well, no, because the opportunity to communicate more is there. Or the Apple Watch. You could send a little drawing. I'm not an Apple Watch guy. No. What watch are you wearing, actually? Is that new? It's a Timex. Nice. It's Timex and The Good Company. Nice. It's actually not new at all. You've had it for a while? I got it before I moved here. Yeah. I've just resurrected it. Okay. Nice. It's been nice to have the time on me.
39Have a timepiece? yeah well a struggle with time well you know what time it is coming game time to get out of here oh yeah that's thank you uh for for coming to the podcast uh we'll see we have some we have some great guests coming uh they're all booked and they're all coming so look sure peace
17Come on, swing. Come on, swing. Come on, swing. Come on, swing. Come on, swing.
