In short
The panel discusses Halo’s next game moving from 343 Halo Studios to Activision, plus reviews/impressions of recent games (Wolverine, Control, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Metroid talk) and a spoiler-light review of the Resident Evil movie. They also cover Just Dance and arcade/family gaming.
Guests (backgrounds)
Damon Hatfield hosts. Sam Claiborne is a Halo-focused fan and discusses Wolverine/Control impressions. Justin Davis contributes game takes (including Halo and other titles). Mark Medina joins with film/game commentary (notably having only seen Star Wars season two; he comments on Resident Evil).
Key claims
Activision’s track record of shipping games regularly could “reset” Halo’s relevance; 343’s slow Halo output is contrasted with Bungie’s faster cadence. The next Halo could reboot/redo Halo 1 and potentially rework Cortana/Master Chief direction. Wolverine is “okay” but too long/repetitive; Control is solid but boss fights drag and the action isn’t landing. Resident Evil is praised as funny, gory, and only loosely connected to the games; Capcom promotion is notably absent.
Notable examples
Dave & Buster’s Minecraft Dungeons; Just Dance on Switch with Joy-Con tracking; Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown free Switch Online trial; Resident Evil’s “nobody” protagonist and audio-log NPC-style storytelling.

1:19Justin Davis:What's up, everybody? Welcome to IG and Gamescoop. I'm your host, Damon Hatfield, and joining me this week are Sam Claiborne. Hey, it's so good to be here, Damon. Damon, thanks for having me. Justin Davis. Scoop. And Mark Medina. It's so good that I'm here, Damon. Agreed. Same. We've got a great show for you this week. Games to be discussed include, but are not limited to, Wolverine, Control Resident, Just Dance, Prince of Persia, The Lost Crown, Metroid, Donkey Kong Bonanza, and the Resident Evil movie. Please be excited.
1:46Mark Medina:Oh, you threw something in there that was a little bit of a twist, I feel.
1:50Justin Davis:That's also a deal. Please be excited. I'm here to talk about Just Dance. That's why I'm on today. Please be excited for all that. He's got the brain scramblies. But first, Halo has a new home. After nearly 20 years under the stewardship of 343 Industries and then Halo Studios.
2:06Mark Medina:You have my attention. I'm going to take a big drink of water here and let me know where it's going.
2:11Justin Davis:The next Halo game will be developed by Activision.
2:18I can't believe you did it.
2:22Mark Medina:Wait, not the Call of Duty Activision, no, the Pitfall Activision.
2:25Justin Davis:Yeah, David Crane is coming back to make the next Halo. That was the best thing I've ever seen. I'm sorry.
2:33Mark Medina:Now I have coconut-flavored LaGroile Studio.
2:38Justin Davis:Sam will commit to the bit. Sam will commit to the bit. That was good. Yeah, I'd like to get... I think for this group, Sam and Justin are probably the Halo guys, So I want to get your take on this. But something I want to point out first. Of course, Bungie.
2:54Mark Medina:Mark's only seen the show.
2:57Justin Davis:The show's real good, guys. He's only seen season two of the show.
3:01Mark Medina:It's his Star Wars. He always says, you know, Halo's my Star Wars.
3:04Justin Davis:Yep. Mass Effect. Bungie made Halo. Bungie made five Halo games in ten years. That's how game development is supposed to work. Every two years, you have a new game in your popular series. 343 was formed in 2007, didn't ship a Halo game until 2012, and they've only shipped three new Halo games in that nearly 20 years. So it does... Well, when you put it like that. When I put it like that, and also when you consider that Activision, for all the criticisms that can be levied at Activision, one thing they are good at is getting games out the door. Like clockwork, year after year, Call of Duty has not missed a year in 20 years.
3:46Mark Medina:so i'll give you another one too activision uh another nice thing you can say about them they're
3:51Justin Davis:not ea does that wouldn't be any fans yeah i don't know what's the big enemy worst company in the world right anyway exactly all right that's that those are all the uh details that i wanted to throw out there sam what do you think about the next taylor coming from activision i don't even
4:09Mark Medina:have a hot take on this it's just like it's it's it's a surprising turn of events that if they can make more than one halo game a decade that would be fantastic yeah and if they bring back the grappling hook i'm all in that's it i like infinite yeah infinite's great yeah i you know it was like you know uh halo studios i feel for them 343 they made three pretty pretty good halo games but just you know some iffy decisions on the single player side in their first game and some iffy decisions on the multiplayer side of the second decision to name their company halo yeah and then they get renamed Halo and then they get disbanded.
4:47It makes me sad. I don't really like the Activision of it all doesn't mean anything to me in particular because it's going to be a new team. Right. Like they're spinning up a new sort of Halo Halo specific team. So there's an element of kind of like palace intrigue of like, you know, why like why not? What does this mean for Xbox Game Studios? Because that seems to be the real kind of thing here is like, you know, there's a lot of change on that side of the house. But But, you know, I don't know. A lot of stuff about video games makes me sad in 2026. But what particularly makes me sad is that it's frequently kind of like not enough to just make a really good game that a lot of people like.
5:25And then that bums me out.
5:27Mark Medina:Yeah. It'd be nice if some of those other teams got to work within. I mean, I know they're being dismantled. But it got to work within Halo, just not making the big, you know, FPS games and, you know, a Metroidvania or something. That's what we all want from Halo. It's like a lot more Halo in different formats and not just an RTS, which was fun. Fun game. Yeah. I want more of this universe. It's a great built-out universe, and I want to see more of it. But I think Activision delivers games regularly, and they're not everybody's favorite Call of Duty game all the time, but they do deliver them.
6:04Mark Medina:And I think their engine was pretty awesome recently. And they made a... I know it's a different team, but they did a really great campaign a couple years ago for for call duty i know all that stuff's just like in in people's minds when they think about you know activision taking on halo or it should be and i'm sure that's what microsoft was thinking because like let's face it like what do we want the most we want bethesda to work on a fallout or elder scrolls game we want you know someone great to make a great halo game like they're they're they're kind of checking the boxes I mean one of my boxes wasn't you know take on Kojima's next set of movies TV, serial and video game franchises but serial probably right oh that's a good idea don't think what would the fizz and o's be called yeah so despite Damon's intro I'm actually a huge Halo fan and I don't know I don't know what to think of this because it's tough Halo hasn't
7:04Justin Davis:been relevant in a very very long time yeah exactly this is the point i'm gonna make i'm interested to see if they're able to kind of bring it back from relevance xbox has this thing where they've kind of had they have their their gears and their their halo and their forza and they have just stuck with it right where you know sony kind of just moves on and it's like okay we're not making uncharted anymore it's probably not the best decision they probably should make another uncharted but uh xbox sticks with their franchise is probably well past their relevance and so i'd be interested to see if if halo could ever kind of come back and be this like the powerhouse that it was yeah i mean the apex of the franchise was probably halo 3 right which was 2007 and correct me if i'm wrong wasn't the first modern warfare 2008 the following year so it's kind of like after that call of duty totally took over and then all the free-to-play shooters the fortnite apex legends and all that so it's like yeah like you're saying mark halo is barely relevant today and i think if they you know if they just announced the next halo from halo studios i think it might be good but there just wouldn't be a lot of excitement around it but giving it to activision gives them this chance to reset like now when they announce the next halo now that it's coming from the studio within Activision, I think that would probably drum up more excitement than just the next Halo from Halo Studios.
8:26The weird thing is, they have a couple of directions they can go. They can either continue or reboot Master Chief's story or just start original. And I don't think either of those super work, right? Because being like, here's Master Chief, he's 90, and here he is. He's still obviously in game world. But in video game world, the dude has just been around forever. and like there's just so much backstory there but then if you make a new halo and it's like this is our new protagonist people are gonna be like what where's master chief i want master chief they are 100 going to reboot the game you mean from the start yeah i think so they're gonna remake halo one a third time well yeah but it's but it's gonna be like a like an actual like a new like halo one
9:11Mark Medina:but not like remake like you know what i mean interesting yeah i thought with master chief yeah no it's gonna it's gonna be halo one it's gonna be halo one but but redone okay that's what i think that's my prediction my prediction is that they're gonna make cortana a little bit more sexy again and then people are gonna lose their minds 20 million copies yeah halo it's one of those franchises of like their fans you know and i say this as a as a cranky dad but like halo fans are all cranky dads right and like that's what it's just a total dad game and like i don't know i don't know how you like how you get around that or get out of the like you know it's just shooters have just moved on right and i love i absolutely love halo's gameplay loop and like the pace of combat and and that it's you know physics based and sandbox and you know like to me to me it's like it's perfect like it's exactly what i want but it's not really what like the mass market has sort of wanted for a while now like it's kind of i mean that's what you were saying earlier, Damon, it's just not really relevant anymore.
10:13Mark Medina:So I think they could benefit from doing the kind of Nintendo thing that happened before. And you're going to hear it. You get your bingo cards, Breath of the Wild, where you take the fundamentals and you say, is that what is what is this game about? Is it about Master Chief? Is it about sexy Cortana? Is it about the Halo rings? Is it about purple? The color purple? But was that not Halo Infinite? Yeah. OK. And then you take all those or do you say, hey, this is actually a game about being able to hop into a vehicle and have a crazy advantage for a little bit, but you can also take out that vehicle in this really specific way, and that leads to this crazy frenetic combat that it's kind of sandboxy.
10:57Mark Medina:There's these fundamentals of Halo that you could take and be like, this is what made it fun, and it's not all of the obvious stuff. It's like what we felt like when we were playing it and and that is what what you could expand on and reboot damon what year did halo infinite come out 2021 2021 same year as forza 5 horizon 5 they announced they announced as part of the news you know this week that like they're starting to staff up a halo team starting to do that oh yeah and so it's like dude like it is gonna be it's gonna be 10 years between Halo games. We don't know. We don't know how Activision works, because they seem to have more studios than ever making Call of Duty at a crazy clip.
11:42Mark Medina:I think minimum three years, which is still almost 10 years. Three years from now. I'm saying three years from now. I'm saying three years from now, if they make a Halo game in 2029, that's still almost 10 years. I'll play it. I'll be there yeah and then what's the what's the engine situation mark we talked about none of us might be here they were on slipstream for infinite and then they announced that they were switching to unreal 5 which is what campaign involved is made in yeah so i think that call of duty doesn't use call of duty doesn't use unreal so who knows no but if they stuck which would be weird because they wouldn't be able to use their their you know development know-how but if they stuck with unreal then they kind of have a lot built already yes as a platform i don't know what's gonna happen Maybe this team is taking on an existing project.
12:32Mark Medina:We don't know. According to reports, Infinite was supposed to, not Infinite, I'm sorry. Campaign Evolve was supposed to be a test for them to make something using Unreal 5. And then they were like, shit, this is actually pretty good. We should just sell this. And so they've done that. My guess is they'll probably stick with Unreal 5. Yeah, maybe. I don't know. New team. Like, I think that they're just burning Halo to the ground and starting over. So it's like, I don't think anything that came before it. I'm a notable Unreal 5 hater. So hopefully they don't. Yeah. I think Xbox has this wind at their sails by trying to push games out, including Elder Scrolls, fast.
13:13Mark Medina:And I wonder if they're going to do a bunch of Activision-style accelerated development corner cutting and who knows AI development and stuff to make this happen a little bit faster. Because I don't know why they'd announce it otherwise. like what's the point of this like i mean it wouldn't be i mean i know i know that the franchises have nothing to do with each other but like it's not the worst idea to be like you know alternate alternate years like halo and call of duty are now going to trade off and then we don't need to have a call of duty every year yeah i don't i don't think i don't know that that'll ever
13:42Justin Davis:happen yeah well this is you guys will think this is interesting speaking of halos you know we talk about it's irrelevancy but this year for halloween kingo wants to be a master chief this year. And it's all because our local barbecue spot has that Halo Arcade cabinet that Sam, you made a video on like 10 years ago. The four player. You did it with Miranda and Brandon Tyrell. Probably Ryan McCaffrey. And he's just become, he's like totally into Master Chief now. My daughter, one of my daughters wants to be Alexander Hamilton. That's pretty good. There it is. Oh, look at you guys go. Wow. Wow. So I got to get a Master Chief costume.
14:28Justin Davis:And also, for the Cortana of it all, Sam, they should just make Cortana Tifa. There you go. There you go.
14:36Mark Medina:I mean, I feel like you should be in charge of Activision with a suggestion like that. Thank you.
14:41Justin Davis:That is just... Thank you.
14:42Mark Medina:Somebody gets it. That's T.O. material right there. Somebody gets it.
14:44Justin Davis:He gets it. And then speaking of arcade games, we had our first visit to Dave & Buster's because there was a birthday party. We'd never been before. We've been to like Chuck E. Cheese, but Dave & Buster's. It's the one in Torrance with the very sad Day of the Dead looking mall that's empty. And Dave & Buster's is cavernous and dark, and there are dozens of arcade cabinets and ticket redemption machines. The only thing Kinga wanted to play, the only game was Minecraft Dungeons. That's all he would play. Because you get actual physical cards every time you play. And then the next time you play, you scan it to get like armor or a crossbow or something.
15:23Justin Davis:He was totally obsessed with it. Now he won't. When can we go back to Dave and Buster's? That's a fun one. Yeah. Minecraft Touch, it's on your PS5. I know, and I'm going to have to get it for you. But there's no cards. There's no cards.
15:38Mark Medina:The newest Pokemon pinball machine from Stern, all pinball machines can be made into ticket redemption machines. But a friend of mine who's very, very good at this stuff put a Pokemon machine at the Japan Town Mall here in San Francisco that kicks out Pokemon cards. Dude, that thing probably prints money. It's so smart. Yeah, it's in the right location and it does that one little trick and I just think it's so clever. Wolverine.

16:16Wolverine.
16:17Justin Davis:Okay, Sam, you finished Wolverine. I did now in the last episode you were like you were like the lone defender of Wolverine
16:24Mark Medina:yeah so I was defending uh uh the elements of the game which I think that people are clowning on early not just this group not this group specifically but that you know that that those might not be the worst elements of the game um they are they are the worst elements of the game no okay I can't remember what we were talking about specifically but I did want to see how the story wrapped up. But here's the problem is that the game goes on and on. And I know that that sounds totally fine. But there's this level in the tick for Super Nintendo. The first level is called night of 1000 ninjas. And that is what happens in this game.
17:01Mark Medina:You get a level or 10 with ninja at just a billion of them. And you fight them. And then the next level is robots. And you fight a billion of them. So that goes on for a long time. And it really does stretch out. And it makes it so the story which really focuses on gene and logan not like there's not like a late game like oh look at all these characters coming in this is going to be super interesting and mixing it up no it's just like the cast from the beginning kind of meeting each other and being friends or enemies and friends or enemies and that kind of feels a little bit like uh the karate kid tv show where you're like okay by like season seven you're like okay whoever's friends and enemies now doesn't really matter to me as much.
17:39Mark Medina:Yeah, right. They're just gonna fight anyway. So that's, that's kind of how it all resolved. But yeah, it's, it's, it's not not a good game. And, and, you know, it's not fixable in a lot of interesting ways. It has some polished moments. It sets up a ton at the end, like a ton. And we're doing an ending explained video next week that if you're going to skip this, or if you're going to play it and want to see, I sent our editor, Jesse Shadeen, who's working with the GameHelp team on this, all of my questions. And they're plentiful because they're all related to these characters. These little things that they introduced where it's like, oh, that's a giant storyline.
18:19Mark Medina:So that's all part of the Spider-Man universe, right? I think that's what's interesting. If there's never another Wolverine game, these characters do exist in Insomniac's Marvel Universe now. And then the last thing I'll say is that a ton of people are playing this game. Again, we get internal stats, we can see how it's doing and it's extremely popular for what I would even think would be easy guide pages. So that means that kids, which is funny because this game is super gory and super F-bomb laden, and then just the general public are playing this. Yeah. It's not, I mean, look, Wolverine's not bad.
18:54I think our six is completely spot on, right? Like it's an okay video game. And then you see this kind of reverse backlash of like people are playing it and they're like, I don't think it's bad. I'm having a good time. And it's like IGN also did not think it was bad. Like, we thought it was okay, which like that.
19:12Mark Medina:I'll also qualify that I thought it was much better for the first six hours, right? Like, it's totally fine to like be six hours into an 18-hour game being like, well, the last 12 hours, that's too long for it to be okay. The games that are sixes are the hardest to talk about. It's much easier when a game is very good or when a game is bad. yeah i i think i think most people probably would agree with the six they just don't realize that they would agree with the six like they would probably give their thoughts and then be like oh shoot okay yeah it is a six because that's where i'm at i love liam mcintyre big sparticus fan agreed oh man this game is you know me big playstation fanboy i love everything they make they don't do anything wrong not loving wolverine guys i'm sorry i can't do it I don't mind him.
20:01Mark Medina:The acting for that character, I think is fine. I don't have a problem with that. And I think it looks good as animated. Well, I think Jean gray is like miscast. Like they need to do the thing that they did with Tom Holland's face in there and just like swap it out. She just is not a compelling character to watch. And it's not great. You know, it's like Jean gray is a pretty great character in the Marvel universe. And she, she's done dirty in this, but I think Logan's really well done. Yeah. I agree. Yeah. and Troy Baker as Troy Baker. Dude, that's so weird. What's weird about it is he played the bad guy in Miles Morales and these universes are connected.
20:39So it's just like there are more. He's British. I think Troy is great. Obviously, he's the best there is at what he does. But okay, he's not Wolverine. But anyways, there are more people. There are more actors. It's weird, right? I want to give one of them a shot.
20:57Mark Medina:yeah but Wolverine's done well and I love how tiny Wolverine is compared to Sabertooth that's a good detail make him sure and if you're like really do check out IGN's review of this because if you're just out there going by the social media like kind of twitch streamer opinions about this all those things that they're talking about are not the problem with the game like following you know fart gas around like who cares like that's not what this game is about like it's it it's stupid but also like have you played the witcher like it's filled with that so you know it doesn't hurt it to like tune it up or down that doesn't really matter the combat is is what you should think about like fighting the same enemies over there over and over again is what you think about the story like you know the the characters and the the kind of like the white paint and stuff like it doesn't matter too much and it's definitely not an open world game there's not a single moment that it's even trying to tell you that it is so don't worry about that
21:53Justin Davis:well i've still only played a couple hours i was focusing on onimusha which i i love but then i got a couple games that are coming next month so i've switched my uh attention to that but also control resident is out now we give that one an eight out of ten uh but sam i think you were saying that that one's not really landing for you either is that right i think it's making all the right moves
22:10Mark Medina:it's not like wolverine like it's not like oh it made like a bunch of bad decisions right off the job except for the one that our our our uh reviewer does call out which is that the boss fights you figure them out and then they just go on for a really long time and there's one right up front where you're like oh well why this is it's just it's boring i'm not saying like it's hard it's just like you just have to do it for a long time and if you die you've learned this stuff and you're like okay i'm gonna find 30 minutes later to do this boss fight like i don't like games that make me do that but just generally what i like about control just isn't in this game so i i that's just me it's it's like i like walking around that weird uh motel and the game telling me about like you know this twin peak sea side of it it has that it's done differently and then the action game after coming off of wolverine i'm just gonna say it that put a bad taste in my mouth for mediocre action and i needed a palate cleanser and this just wasn't it yeah so i'm not criticizing this game i'm playing games that i really love right now but this is not the game i need right now i just don't want to play it.
23:14Mark Medina:The open world. It's not really open world. It's kind of like Wolverine where you get out to an area. It's fair. It's kind of, you know, there's parts that look more psychedelic and cool, but like a lot of it's like Manhattan, great buildings, kind of run around them and jump around them a lot. I'm pretty far in this game too. And like, it doesn't change enough for me. And it just felt like drab and and the same me and not like Alan Wake or control to me. Yeah. Yeah, they did come with a patch last night about making the enemies not the bullet spongy. Oh, interesting. I got really good at making sure I was ready for fights for that too.
23:49Mark Medina:I'm good at combat in this game. And it's noticeable too. We had to recap parts of a video we were making because it is noticeable. You could just drop the difficulty, which I did not do. I couldn't figure out how... I was like, well, I guess I'll pause this and figure it out. Then I just gave up and I just got good, basically. That's kind of disappointing to hear because I played this game a lot and I'm not going to get that. Yeah, I like it. I'm still pretty early. There are too many games right now. There are way too many games. There are just too many games right now. Because of Grand Theft Auto, there are so many games went to September and October and I cannot keep up.
24:29Because like I said,
24:30Justin Davis:now I'm playing games that aren't even out until next month, but I still want to play Star Wars Zero Company and The Blood of Dawnwalker. And man, there's so much. Blood of Dawnwalker was the only one that I've stuck with where I'm like, this is just gonna be my game but i'm the same i tried playing zcom and it's so good but i'm just like who's got time i don't have time for all these games zcom that's zero zero oh yeah that's xcom but you know i wasn't cool enough to have heard zcom correct yeah you are not cool enough correct i'm picking up what you're putting down stop trying to make that happen uh there is another thing i've been playing uh there's a long-running video game series i had never played before but now it's all the rage in my house so king goes elementary school has an aftercare program because school ends like 2 30 in the afternoon it's really early yep the other day i picked him up and they were playing just dance on the wii they have a wii there and they were playing just dance so he was like interested in just dance and asked me about it and i had never played it before but my wife who was not a gamer had gotten just dance 2020 which would have been out in 2019 just because she wanted to dance so i remember we had that so i loaded it up and we played it as a family.
25:38Justin Davis:We had an absolute blast with Just Dance. It's great. It was so fun.
25:41Mark Medina:Is it motion-based? You kind of just have the wheel remote at different positions.
25:44Justin Davis:We're playing on Switch, so you just hold the Joy-Con and it's just reading your motion that way.
25:49Mark Medina:And it's pretty good at that or is it just completely just forgiving? It's very forgiving. Yeah. But you see how his hand is green? Yeah. That's what it's tracking.
25:58Justin Davis:Yeah. So it's like, you know, it's a lot of, you just got to get into it. But in reality, it's only tracking just what that one hand is doing. You got to kind of buy into the illusion. Otherwise, you're not going to have as much fun. Yep. I love it. We went through a Just Dance phase in my house, probably about when my kids were about your age, your kids' age, Damon, because that was five years ago, like early pandemic. It was like, maybe we better get a Just Dance game. I mean, so Just Dance 2020, the song list includes stuff from Frozen, but it also includes Bangerang by Skrillex, and that's really fun to get my kids dancing to Skrillex.
26:33Justin Davis:It's great. Yeah. Have you seen what Skrillex looks like now? No. Dude, I was asking if you've seen what he looks like now. Yeah, he looks completely different. He looks completely different. He's a hunk.
26:48Mark Medina:Check out Jack White sometime. That year, I think it was the Frozen year. They had been showing that in 2019. so that's when E3 had one of those Ubisoft shows where like part of the Ubisoft show was like you know someone coming out dressed like that shark and doing dances and like the whole stage is like dancing people and stuff.
27:15Justin Davis:What was that shark? I don't know that shark but does anyone remember Left Shark? Yeah. That's from the Katy Perry halftime show. That's what it was. I think that is that what it was that was a reference to that right? Well, good times.
27:31Mark Medina:Left shark.
27:43Justin Davis:The leaves are turning, the temperature is dropping, and lots of cool games are coming out. It must be fall. And Chubbies is here to make sure your fall wardrobe hits harder than Wolverine's adamantium rage with soft, stretchy, fall-ready staples built for maximum comfort and minimal effort. Chubbies makes tons of clothes that both look awesome and feel really comfortable, like their original stretch shorts and their classic line swim trunks. They have swim shorts that are simple and cool, and they have swim shorts that have fun, crazy prints all over them to make me feel like I'm properly on vacation and holding a large drink with a big, funny, twisty straw and one of those little paper umbrellas I used to give to my action figures when I was a kid.
28:21Justin Davis:Oh, and there's also three iguanas sitting in a rock near me, and they're smiling and wearing sunglasses. I have a very vivid imagination. or I just really need a vacation. Two things can be true. The first time I put on a pair of Chubbies Classic Line Swim Trunks, I knew I wanted to wear them to the beach and pool all summer. They're just great and they fit me perfectly and just like the rest of their shorts, reminded me that my old stuff really wasn't cutting it and I was glad I finally upped my game. And hey, you should do the same. Whether you're layering up for tailgates, lounging through lazy Sundays or just leaning fully into fall comfort, Chubbies has you covered.

31:17Because didn't they just lay everybody off?
31:19Justin Davis:they disbanded the team that made it so it would be a different team i don't know yeah i don't know that's a good deal or yeah or or they got a little bit of money from nintendo and so yeah why not
31:31Mark Medina:yeah it's also deeply this game is so good it's everybody that probably you know listens to the show and her discussion about this when it was out and no very few people end up playing it this is a good platform to play it on and i really do think like you know if you're playing a bunch of you know console games this fall having this on your your switch switch two switcher's uh it is both yeah so that's just a great background thing to be working through and you you probably will need game help and we have an awesome guide and a great map for it nice yeah this great boss fights in this way this is probably one of the one of the best

35:17Mark Medina:Wayfair, every style, every home
35:34Justin Davis:what I've been mostly looking forward to talking about this episode is the Resident Evil movie and only Mark and I have seen this so we will keep this spoiler free okay Mark people will get really mad if we spoil anything well it's not going to spoil Resident Evil for anybody because there's nothing about Rusty Hill. Yeah, I'm trying to think of what you could spoil. Obviously, there's some stuff, but I don't know. Okay, well, Mark, I really like... Stop thinking about that. Now I'm trying to think, what could I spoil? I really like this movie. A lot of people have said they were disappointed in the ending, and I would agree with that, but that's because of this.
36:08Justin Davis:Because of this director's previous film, Weapons, which I will also not spoil. All of Weapons is good, very good, but it's elevated by the last few minutes. The last few minutes of weapons go completely bonkers, and it's hilarious and surprising and satisfying and gory. It's just great. The whole thing is elevated by the final few minutes, and Resident Evil just kind of lacks that. It's very just straightforward. It's like what's happening just happens and then ends without any big surprise. Would you agree with that, Mark? I would. You two are in such dangerous territory right now. What? I didn't say anything.
36:43You're just like, I know, but then you're talking. Let's start with the ending. Yeah, exactly. And then you're tossing to Mark and it's just like, I don't give a shit to be clear. I'm just on the edge of my seat to see if like something is about to happen to me.
36:55Mark Medina:Isn't this the one where they're going to add like three minutes of Robert Downey Jr. in the end of it though? And then they were releasing. Yeah, they're going to recruit him to the Avengers. I agree with what you're saying about the ending. Yeah. But I disagree that it's bad. And here's why.
37:12Justin Davis:Okay. And I'm not going to talk about the ending. this character the character that you're seeing in the in the thing so okay when i think about redfield right when i think about video game adaptations that i love right you have last of us which is like a one-to-one remake with a few things sprinkled in then you have fallout where it's like it takes place in the fallout world but all the characters are original but the main characters themselves are key players in everything that happened in the fallout world with lucy's dad the ghoul and all that stuff this game or this movie it is it is not that at all that guy the main actor he is nobody he is absolutely nobody and they they kind of like explain that early on and that's why i think that the ending not being that consequential doesn't matter it was never supposed to be this guy is nobody he's he's not not that you shouldn't care about him But he the the events of Resident Evil are happening around him.
38:14He is not a key player in this movie at all.
38:17Justin Davis:It's a it's a small, simple story that just happens alongside the first two games. That's what it is. Yes. Very, very loose connection. And even the connection to the games, it's a reimagining of the games because it's in a completely different setting in time of year. Yeah, the one and I consider this a spoiler. This is just the one thing I'll say at one point. he leaves an audio justin he leaves an audio log yeah he's not him leaving that audio log was them telling the audience that this guy is just straight up nobody somebody more important will find and listen to that audio log and just move you know that that's to me that that's what that was signaling that is that is one of the guys that you find audio logs and notes of just like this crazy thing is happening i don't know what to do this person turned into a zombie that's 100 who this guy is he's it's he's environmental storytelling he's an npc yep he is 100 an npc and it's like and i and by the way i haven't seen the movies this is not a spoiler but it's like how did you know how did this guy die oh we'll find his audio log it's like well they barely even mention his name i i don't even remember it i i think it's bert and then it turns out that he's a young albert wesker no this is not true anyway but the movie's really good really fun really gory and really funny i think everyone if you haven't seen it you're gonna be surprised at how funny the movie is hey is there a green herb in it i think there are that was in the trailer that was
39:46Mark Medina:in the trailer yeah yeah but i remember people pointing that out i was like oh i can't really tell though so yeah it's like that well so i read the trivia and zach cragers wrote this movie as a non-Resident Evil movie, pitched it to Capcom, who then said yes, and he said he was not nervous in that meeting because he didn't care. Like, he wanted them to say yes, but he was just going to make the movie anyways. And to be honest, I think he still just did that. I think he just still made a zombie movie and then was like, cool, we get to throw some Resident Evil stuff in there now because there's like a first aid spray and there's other nods.
40:20I don't know if you caught it, Damon, but there's a part where he opens a door and the camera pushes in past his shoulder and you just see the door opening and then he moves through it, which is a nod to how the doors used to open. Like, there's a lot of that stuff. But for the most part, you do not have to be a Resident Evil fan to enjoy it.
40:37Justin Davis:Oh, no, not at all. That's why I think its existence as a Resident Evil movie is still kind of confusing. Because like, Zach Kregor's made two original horror movies and then he wants to follow that up with a video game movie that's only just kindly, slightly a video game movie. I just think that's a weird choice I don't know like look movies are a commercial art form like he made two small movies and now he wanted to make a bigger one but Capcom's not even mentioned this is my other point this is the craziest thing
41:06Mark Medina:but did you look in the credits to see if it was scrolled past it's not in the opening credits it might be somewhere buried the opening credits say it's a
41:16Justin Davis:PlayStation production but here's the difference Resident Evil Capcom's flagship franchise The Crown and its Jewel There have been Resident Evil movies in the past They're all terrible Now not only do they have a great Resident Evil movie, they have the highest rated Video game movie of all time And Capcom acts like It doesn't exist, Capcom has done nothing To promote it, their logo Isn't on it, compare this to Nintendo For the Mario movies They bring Miyamoto out to do a whole Nintendo Direct on the movies when you sit down and watch them you get a big opening you know splash animation of nintendo it's very clear this is a nintendo production they're involved capcom is not involved in this at all i think it's really weird yeah i mean they may just not care like they're just like you know we're a video game company and yeah we'll license out the thing but like this is we're not you know they probably didn't fund it at all they just are giving their blessing for them to use the name i I guess I don't know.
42:19It's very strange, but it ultimately it's irrelevant. The movie is awesome. I remember reading that they talked about how many jokes they cut and he said, it's because they did a screener and everybody loved it and they thought it was super funny. And then a few people were like, it was probably too funny. So he went through and removed a bunch of jokes. I still think the movie is absolutely hilarious. It's still very, even the music is funny. They do funny stuff where it's like, because this dude is just always just like encountering things that just leave him worse than he was before and then he'll start to trudge on and it kind of plays this like like this kind of like trudging kind of silly comedic kind of music because this dude just he doesn't know what he's doing he doesn't know what's happening he's just reacting to the things that are happening around him and he has no skills he talks about the whole time how he's terrible guns um man it it's good probably the best movie i watched all year it was fantastic and that that's above odyssey and everything like i have not stopped thinking about this movie ever since i watched it i've been telling everybody go watch it that's all we'll say
43:27Justin Davis:about resident evil it's very good i totally recommend how was the box office did they report it yeah it's a bunch of money yeah 100 million surpassed expectations there's your answer to why isn't it weapons too yep well i don't think i don't think weapons needed a sequel but

46:28Justin Davis:Okay, let's check in with the listeners. Hey, listeners. Listeners, remember you can always reach us at the email address gamescoop at IGN.com, just like Eric from Orlando did, who says, with Metroid ravenous, less than half a year away, and knowing the Metroid lovers amongst you, I had two questions as someone who's barely experienced Metroid. One, what order do you suggest playing the games for a newbie? And two, besides Metroid Dread, which games do you think are pivotal to play before Ravenous? Thanks for all the scoops each week. As an 80s kid, you've become my Saturday morning cartoon replacement.
47:00Mark Medina:We've answered the order question before. Justin and I have very different answers for this. I have no memory of that. I mean, I think Super Metroid is one of the greatest video games of all time. It depends on your age, right? I'm not trying to foist 90s games onto younger kids and this feels old and weird. but like super metroid's my favorite game it's my favorite game for a reason it's fantastic you know it's a it's an all-time great like i don't you know i don't there's nothing new to say about it um from a story and lore perspective metroid zero mission is a remake of the first one so
47:32Justin Davis:that's not a bad place to start yeah i i also i mean super or super metroid is an amazing game especially to like consider the time it was released you know on on that console it's just It has such a cool vibe and mood, and it's dark and mysterious. It's totally different from what you expect from Nintendo. But I do wonder if Zero Mission made 10 years later, if it's just a friendlier game to play than Super Metroid. It has mantling up ledges and stuff like that, just a variety of kind of tiny improvements. So what was unspoken there is like, so Super Metroid is the third one. There's Metroid on the NES, and then Metroid 2 on the Game Boy.
48:11You know, they're both really interesting.
48:12Mark Medina:It also has a remake. Yeah. oh yeah um and so you know i don't i think you're fine to skip them and not play them as my judgment there i mean i'll play them if you want like there's more obtuse yeah yeah like they're great games on their platform and for their era but like they're not all timers like super metroid is they're they're really hard to play i would yeah don't worry about those they have remakes zero mission i think is is a legit incredible game i think it's the best metroid only because it improves on a perfect game which is metroid super metroid but that's not my answer my i i think that people should start with the remake of prime and i think it's a better introduction to samus metroid and kind of the the vibe of metroid than 2d games are even though all these games are my favorite games and i love 2d metroid it's my thing i think for like it's really fun to enter the series through Prime.
49:09Mark Medina:And it explains the world. It's really cool. Great game. Modernized. We gave it a 10. The other half of his question of like what from like a lore perspective, what do you need to play to get ready for Ravenous? Probably just Dread. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like, you know, Ravenous is a direct sequel. I mean, I guess they're all kind of direct sequels, but like. But the carry through plot is lame. It's like not fun. Yeah, yeah. There's a baby Metroid and you're, you know, it's like not good. Play Dread and it does, I mean, we don't know that much about Ravenous yet, but it certainly seems like it's extremely direct sequel and is going to directly carry over from the way that that game concludes.
49:40So, yeah, play Dread.
49:42Mark Medina:And Prime, to be clear, is a self-contained story, but it's a story about Samus and where she's from and this kind of ancient civilization you discover. In other games, it's not handled as well, but that connects to Zero Mission. So Prime and Zero Mission have a ton of DNA and they're kind of made around the same time. And I really like that as a good starting pair to tell you all about metroid and then you go back and play everything they came out on the way came out on the same day if i remember correctly oh i think that's fusion oh you're right you're right yeah yeah yeah fusion which it would have made a lot more sense for zero mission because zero mission what they did was they added in a chozo element as storytelling which is like what's in the original metroid it's like they have chosen statues but they don't have any storytelling at all and it tells the story as like a little drawing of samus as a kid and stuff in it with the Chosus ruins.
50:33Mark Medina:It's great. It's great stuff.
50:35Justin Davis:Yeah, I would say the three to prioritize in whichever order you choose would be Zero Mission as the sort of apex of the old pixel art style and then Prime as to see just how perfectly they translated the 2D games into 3D. And then Dread, yeah, because that's the precursor to Ravenous, which is kind of a 2.5D situation. Much more cinematic than the pixel art games. And Mark is too old for this conversation. Let's move on. But I want to play Belmont's Curse. Man, I hope the curse is lifted. Hey, you can't. We don't make the rules. I'm not allowed. There'll be an age restriction. You must be this much in younger to play.
51:15Justin Davis:Okay, this is Clark from Cleveland, Clarkland. Says, first, I want to start by saying thank you for all the amazing shows. I look forward to them every week. They're my adult version of Saturday morning cartoons, in as much as I watch them every Saturday while I prepare and enjoy a nice breakfast. It's hard for me to believe that I started watching and listening over 10 years ago now. Recently, I completed the Donkey Kong Challenge in time to get the exclusive My Nintendo cards. This is the challenges for Donkey Kong Bonanza. It says, I couldn't help but come to the conclusion that I really am not a big fan of the game.
51:44Justin Davis:I have a perfectly okay time with the game, and it is visually stunning with a great art direction, but I just don't enjoy how loose the movement feels. This was made all the more apparent when I worked to complete those extra hard DK challenges. I don't begrudge anyone for loving DK Bonanza. In fact, I find myself wishing I liked it more. I am generally an easily entertained individual. Mario Odyssey remains one of my favorite games of all time. Knowing that the same team made Bonanza and others find it so wonderful makes me self-conscious about my own game tastes. My question for the Omega Cops is, are there any games that you have played that you didn't enjoy or still enjoyed but genuinely wish you liked it more?
52:18Justin Davis:Thank you for always being welcome voices and all the infotainment over the years. All of you make my Saturdays better.
52:26Mark Medina:Yeah, Wolverine. you wish you liked Wolverine more yeah because I love X-Men and Wolverine and that universe I love the Spider-Man games I just wanted to like it more but that's why I beat it I love the idea of doing all the hard stuff you know 100 % in a game and being like oof I just I don't know if I had as much fun doing that as I should have like that's that's I can relate to that type of gameplay I can also relate to listening to Game Scoop on Saturday morning for breakfast by the way having a little Saturday morning tradition like that is awesome. And I love playing games on Saturday morning.
53:00Mark Medina:It feels great. Yep. No, I don't really have a great answer to this question. I don't like I like wishing I liked a game more. It's like, no, I wish the game was better. I don't like, you know, like that, that attitude is just I'm trying to think of those games where I was like, oh, super high. It's the ones that I look forward to. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Any Zelda that didn't hit the high mark for me, that would be Skyward Sword, for example, or Twilight Princess. I was so and I still loved those games and I looked forward to them so much that I'm not going to love them but like it's you know they did not deliver and I was I wish I liked them more yeah you're definitely right you're better at this than me because those Zelda games are good answers too yeah yeah a recent one for me would probably be Crimson Desert I was stoked for that game and I liked it for like 10 hours and then I was like dang this game's not that great yeah but I think
53:52Justin Davis:being disappointed in a game is different than wishing you liked it more or like feeling maybe having FOMO because other people like the game and you can't really get into it. I can't say I feel that way though.
54:02Mark Medina:To be honest, I probably feel that way about Donkey Kong because people loved it and I tried so hard to like it. I would say probably like Witcher 3 as well. People love Witcher 3 and I've never been able to get past the first few hours. Elden Ring's like that for me. Like I have FOMO because I just don't like that game and a lot of people it's their favorite game of all time. Yeah. yeah i i actually am feeling it a bit for witcher 3 because the remaster is coming out and so many people are excited and i'm considering jumping back into it but i just i don't know i don't i don't know if the things about that game are going to change enough i don't know if like less fog is going to make me that's not my problem with the game my problem is that the enemies don't react to my sword slashes and so i just slash through them and it doesn't feel good i think they are
54:48Justin Davis:revamping the combat a bit. I was going to say, you might want to... Might want to boot her back up. Boot her back up.
55:00Justin Davis:Extracurricular activities. Last weekend, I had the pleasure of seeing Weird Al Yankovic. Amazing. Cool. I've never seen him live. And he got the shirt. This is my third time seeing him, but the first time in his traditional band setup because the first time I saw him was the ill-advised tour where he didn't play any parodies only his originals, which is fine for a super fan like me, but my wife was pretty disappointed. The second time was at the Greek in Berklee, and it was the Strings Attached Tour when he had a full orchestra. And this is just the first time I've seen him with just his band, which I think is the same band he's been touring with all these decades.
55:33Justin Davis:So it was really, really cool. Dude, this guy is a national treasure. I've always loved Weird Al. He played just about everything you'd want to hear. He's 66 years old, sounds great, has so much energy, and he's constantly doing his costume changes. So he has his Devo, like, get up for Dare to Be Stupid. He's got a surgeon outfit for, like, a surgeon. He comes out on his Segway for White and Nerdy. He did Amish Paradise, Word Crimes. He did so much. He even did fat in the fat suit, which I think he stopped doing for a while. But now he's 66 and he's like, F it. I'm bringing out the fat suit. He did it for you.
56:11Justin Davis:It was great. Amazing. Is this your footage that we're watching here? No, that's not my footage. Oh, okay. His encore was The Saga Begins, which is the Phantom Menace song, and Yoda. Okay, that's a lot. I don't really know anything about, like, I've heard his songs when I was younger, you know, the, like, parodies. So I'll be honest, I didn't know he even did original songs. What are they like? Are they just funny still? Yeah. They're still funny. And some of them are, like, sound-alikes, like, not a parody of a specific song. He's got a song that, like, sounds like The Police. I forget what the name of that song is but it's stuff like that
56:48Mark Medina:yeah there's like a Beach Boys parody called Trigger Happy
56:53Justin Davis:one song he didn't play that I wished is called The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota it's about a family road trip to see The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota and it's a really long song Mark that just keeps going on and on and on and on he didn't play that one though it was great anyone else have any extracurricular activities to share? anything you're watching? mine's not as cool as that I was I mean I if we're doing extracurricular activities like yeah I would share that I think lanterns is incredible I love it I've watched lanterns I still only watched the first episode but I guess I should watch it okay good I need to watch it yeah it's definitely worth a watch I went in skeptical um not a big fan of DC let me rephrase just like it's hit or miss right like you know but like and also I don't care about the green land the lore of the green lanterns and I I think it's actually kind of weird and strange.
57:41And so it's like, I definitely went in slightly biased to maybe not like it. And it just immediately won me over. It's just really, really well done television. And, and just, I'm not the first person to make this observation, but the cast couldn't possibly be better cast, just like the way that they play off of each other and just their personalities is just perfect. It's, it's great. It's a really, really fantastic, fun and interesting watch every week. I really only know that guy as the cop from Wolf of Wall Street. Like I, I don't know what his name is. Kyle Chandler or whatever. Did you? It's the only thing I know him from.
58:20Mark Medina:Did anybody go watch Supergirl? Because it's streaming also on HBO now. No, but I will. I didn't know it was on HBO. Yeah. So I watched half of it and it starts really strong and then it really goes downhill. uh we wrote a story today about uh uh dc i forget like a artist or writer being disappointed in the casting for uh lobo um and that character is just terrible in it but you know it's as a good start but yeah it's it has some quality james gunn stuff to begin with that's cool are you guys watching ted lasso yeah so i was about to go i am back on my apple tv kick i'm watching sugar season two which has been great so i gotta watch that uh i'm only three episodes in ted lasso damon give it a shot so the first two episodes are rough it's because they have to make a very thin reason for him to get back to richmond and it is as thin as could be so it's kind of just a cameo fest let's figure out how to get him back after that it's great it's back full on the best ever ted lasso's ever been it's fantastic i think it's great i think it's really good i didn't love season three that much yeah so it feels like we're back to i hate to say it but not focusing so much on just his mental health problems yeah that's it does a little bit always such a bummer it's like what that's what most of season three was a lot of a downer this one is just more back to it's just it's it's just good light-hearted stuff so if you can get past the first two episodes i think you'll i think you'll be back did we talk about the paper season two i haven't i'm not watching that i did not like the first season it's such an easy watch i mean it's only about you know your exact job mark come on man it's my job to watch the paper i didn't know that it's about an editorial team it's about working on it the exact job that they all fall in love with each other yeah they that so this season the big thing is like a will they won't they relationship thing and it's it's it's like a condensed version of five seasons of the office right because that's all it was for the property office but it works and uh of course uh the italian actor uh is just phenomenal and she she was on um it's white lotus season two yeah yeah yeah but she was on uh the talk shows this week she did like i think which one is jimmy kimball or seth meyer something but uh she's a great interview also i'm just a huge fan she's great ultimately the hr
1:00:57Justin Davis:character they introduced is fantastic in this is the paper a comedy yes it's a sequel to the office
1:01:02Mark Medina:it's it's like set in the same universe and has one crossover character and it's the same actually there's multiple crossover characters because the film crew is the same film crew that did the office so it's it's in universe office sequel it's fantastic okay yeah they're about how the how the office was about a dying paper company, this is about a dying print company. Because Dom Hall Gleeson, he's like the editor. They also make paper. They make toilet paper. Yeah, they do. And so they make two paper products, a newspaper and toilet paper. Toilet paper makes all their money, so they have newspaper kept afloat.
1:01:34Oh, well, there's Oscar right there. So there you go. That's the one returning, main returning character. I like Dom Hall Gleeson. I just don't really like any of the other characters.
1:01:42Mark Medina:What I can tell you about this is that it is like Ted Lasso season one where, like, you start watching it you can watch it and you just just blow right through it and it's super funny and engaging and the characters are lovely so i think i think it works all right i'll check that out okay that brings us to video game 20 questions and our suggestion this week comes from matt
1:02:10Justin Davis:who says, G'day, Damon, and the Omega Cops coming to you from Sydney, Australia. I don't miss a second of Game Scoop. Please never stop scooping. So pumped about Ocarina of Time Reborn coming out. The original was one of the first video games I played and finished as a five-year-old. That's impressive. And it made me a gamer for life. Most importantly, I learned how to read thanks to Ocarina of Time and that you can't trust a room that has several identical paintings. My video game 20 questions suggestion is Redacted that also has Redacted. what was the redacted what was the redacted uh uh uh uh okay I thought I could get you the other game the new game also has words
1:02:51Mark Medina:to read maybe it also has portraits that come to life that hurt you oh is this Mario 64 done see you guys can you jump in this game no no jump no jumping no jumping at all I didn't even ask I meant to ask jump button and I messed up my own goof. You are fused to the ground in this game. Do you play as a living being in this game? Yes. Okay. Is this game exclusive to one platform? No. Hmm. Maybe it's gone home. Yeah. Yeah, you're not jumping in that. You may want to jump over those X-Files tapes are up the stairs, but you can't do it. Can you see your character in this game that you play as? Yes.
1:03:45Not a walking sim. Or you can't jump in Half-Life either, can you? What about Heavy Rain? You jump in Half-Life, but you don't see your feet. Maybe that's what I was thinking.
1:04:00Mark Medina:Was this a console exclusive? Oh, sorry. You know what it is? It's Bionic Commando. oh wait wait you said i said is it exclusive to one platform and he said no yeah yeah okay so i'll hold on that one let's do uh was this from this century yes that's five
1:04:24okay castle crashers yeah it could be a beat-em-up or like you said some sort of story kind of Yeah, but not first person Yeah, yeah, well I just mean like Detroit Become Human or Beyond Would you call telling a story
1:04:41Mark Medina:the central purpose of this game?
1:04:46Justin Davis:No That's great Hmm Hmm
1:04:52Mark Medina:So we don't need to ask about Ludo narrative dissonance as we usually do Keep the audience riveted Um Okay, I don't know. Would you call multiplayer a focus of this game? No. Definitely not. You're jumping all around in all those multiplayer lobbies. Not in Castle Crashers. Yeah, you're right. This game is just bumping into each other. Not in Battletoads. Yeah, you're jumping in Battletoads. Jump kicking. Drop kicking. Oh, maybe you can when you hit the both battles. I don't know, man. Okay, I feel like I want to stop asking goofy questions now. Did this game come out in the last 10 years? Yes.
1:05:38Can you play this game on the Nintendo Switch? Yes. Hmm. But not exclusive to the Switch.
1:05:45Mark Medina:Mm-mm. And no jumping. Would you call this game an indie game? Yes, that's 10. But it's not about telling a story. That's pretty unusual. Yeah. Maybe it's a rogue. Roguer. Oh, there you go. yeah it could be like a nuclear throne finding of Isaac okay can you jump in Isaac you can jump in Spelunky right yep 100 % it's all you do it's jump simulator jump and whip and die yes to an indie does this game have multiple entries in the series no wow Do we ask anything about it being 2D? No. Is 2D?
1:06:36Justin Davis:Let's not ask that question.
1:06:38Mark Medina:We finally got him. We won! I think it's Stardew Valley. There's two ways to win 20 questions. One is stump the host, and the other is to guess the game. Yeah, it could be cozy. Yeah. Would you consider this a cozy game? No. Oh, no. I think the third way to win, which we've never tested, is we all just get up and leave. Or there's another way where you get Damon to say the name of the game. Yeah, it's very rare. He is unflappable. He can't be flapped. Yeah, yeah. Okay, not a cozy game, so not a Stardew-like or farming, or I don't know, my time at Porsche or any of those. Is it 3D? No fucking idea.
1:07:27Mark Medina:Yeah. Let's revisit that. I think it's because I think it's because it's like Stardew. It's like isometric. It's like top down. Is Isaac 3D? No. Well, it's top down. Yeah, kind of. Yeah, I think it's ambiguous. It's got that kind of curve. We could ask the roguelike question because it could be something like Cult of the Lamb. Is it a roguelike?
1:07:51Justin Davis:No. Shoot. okay I thought for sure it was Isaac or like Into the Gungeon although I guess that got
1:07:57Mark Medina:a sequel do you play as a human no and you don't jump you don't play as a human indie game not story based on the switch relatively recent multi-platform dude could be that's not bad although that would be that would obviously be 2D though wouldn't be like the background in it so it's 3d um do you play as an animal in this game yes and that's 15 all right it's not little kitty big city you jump in that you jump in stray yeah yeah what animal do you play as oh untitled goose game yeah i bet it's goose game i bet you play it Do you play as a warm-blooded creature in this game? That's mammals and birds.
1:08:52Yes. Birds are warm-blooded. It's probably goose-blooded.
1:08:57Mark Medina:Anything that's cold-blooded has to lie in the sun to heat up. Is the goal of this game to irritate people? No. What? Oh, I thought that was like a gimme question. I thought we were done with the show. I thought we were wrapping it up. The only other thing I can think of is like, Is it Biomutant? What's that cute PlayStation game? That's obviously 3D, where you play as a little bird, Long Walk or something. We all love it. Big Walk. Man, I was so sure it was Goose Game, because that's also ambiguous whether it's 2D or 3D. Yo, I'm at the end of Big Walk, and I don't want it to end. What about Flappy Bird?
1:09:38I don't have any friends to play it with. You only need one?
1:09:42Mark Medina:Don't laugh at that. You only need one friend. I was talking about the game long hike or big hike or something like that the one where you're oh yeah sure a short hike a short hike that's 3D though man a short hike rules should we just narrow it down to bird or mammal is this helpful I thought you said birds are mammals no no no does the animal you play as lay eggs
1:10:10Justin Davis:I mean yeah yes i think the animal does but you probably don't in the game maybe or maybe you play maybe you play as like a rooster and then that makes that question hard yeah but that that's
1:10:27Mark Medina:probably true but the uh that does confirm that well this is weird because you don't jump right so if you don't jump you fly you don't fly either or you always fly okay so it's a bird game it's a bird game. I'm trying to think of games where I played as a bird. Indie bird game. In the last 10 years. Yeah, it's an indie bird game that's not goose game. And you probably don't jump just because you're flying. It's probably a flying game. What's that one that was for Ubisoft where you're just the hawk? It's all you do? Yeah, yeah. That one probably didn't come to Switch. I think it was a VR game, but I can't remember.
1:11:12Oh my god. You're down to one question and a guess. I mean, it could be a short hike. Aren't you a penguin in that game? I just think that's clearly 3D. No, you fly. You also jump, but never mind. You spent UL.
1:11:23Mark Medina:I can't remember you glide. Because I remember the upgrades are little feathers and then it's like, I don't know if that counts as a jump. I think it counts as a jump. Are there games where you play as a penguin? Yeah, a short hike. No, you're just a bird that you glide all over in that. You're a penguin in that game, aren't you? i don't know i don't think so i think you're just a brute thank you um i forgot i gotta stop looking down people are gonna think i'm cheating i'm not what about like skatebird oh do you jump you do sick jumps in that yeah that's all you do but that's ollieing so it's not really jumping yeah i was gonna say does ollieing count as jumping skateboard i think is a valid answer i just don't know about the 2d 3d obviousness of that.
1:12:10I can't think of any other bird game. Do we have one question and a guess or are we out of questions?
1:12:14Justin Davis:Yeah, one question and a guess. I mean, you can ask if you write a... We could do the nuclear one and be like, have we mentioned the game? Yeah. But then the answer is no and then we're always sad. Well, then we can just note and... Damon, have we mentioned the game? No. No! I'm so sad! dude. If only someone kind of warned me. Alright, we give up. No, we don't. We got so close. We got to do a guess. We know it's a bird. Don't platypuses lay eggs.
1:12:55Now I'm thinking the platypus game. The funny thing is I just played a bird game, but I know it's not that. Maybe it'll trigger our memory. It's a game where you walk around as a bird And you collect letters and then you solve Crossword puzzles with those letters And it's called Rita Is it Rita? No, hold on
1:13:15Mark Medina:What about Owlboy? You jump in that game It's 2D Owlboy's a good guess though I've just been thinking About birds, but like owls I don't think about as being birds What? No, I just don't. They're in like a separate category in my mind palace. Oh, what about Death's Door? Yes. Or the crow game. Is that the crow game? Yeah, it is. Yeah. But it's top down. It's not a roguelike. I can't believe I was about to give up. I think Sam just pulled this out. All right, let's do it. I'm too scared to. You said it. You said it.
1:13:59Justin Davis:Is it Death's Door? is a death door yes
1:14:04Mark Medina:yeah I can't believe you don't jump in this but that makes sense you roll yeah it's a rolling see he was
1:14:11Justin Davis:excited for Ocarina of Time and this is one of his favorite Zelda likes
1:14:16Mark Medina:it's not as Zelda like as I'd like it to be so let's hear the redacted I wish I liked this game more
1:14:22Justin Davis:and it looks like you know it is a 3D game but I don't know if that would have helped you in this case oh like the world is rendered in 3D, but you're not moving in a 3D space. I know. It's nice to mention. Damon, there's one commenter that's always mad. He always gets mad that we cheated when you give us a hint. Yeah. He's going to be fired up about it. What was the hint? One guy that takes video game 20 questions very seriously. I would suggest... Yeah, it's me. That it's just... Hello. What the heck? Nick Lamone just barged in here. He owns a plan. What the heck is going on? Oh, hi, Nick. The show's over.
1:14:57Justin Davis:Are you just back from China?
1:15:00Mark Medina:I just got back from China. Hi, everybody. I can't hear you, so I'm just going to go now, but hi.
1:15:05Justin Davis:Welcome back, Nick. They just won on 20 questions. Nick's the commenter. It's him. Okay, and Sam, importantly, is there a game where you play as a penguin? Yes, Pango.
1:15:21Mark Medina:No, I knew. I was thinking of Pango, but I was thinking it had to be a modern game. You said it was out the same. I also, there's an argument, I know we're trying to wrap the show, but there's an argument to be made that if you play as an anthropomorphized animal, is it, like, are you a penguin in a short hike, or are you just, it's just, you're like a human, you're just like a little you're just a little guy, you're not anything I love how the little guy looks around like a bird, the little squishy head movements and stuff, it's great If you like this, play Tunic, it's another good one Where he plays an animal, not a bird, but a warm-blooded animal
1:15:55Justin Davis:a warm-blooded. Nicely job. Thank you for the suggestion, Matt, in Sydney, Australia. This month, we are celebrating IGN's 30th anniversary. 1:16:52We should have asked if the animal wears clothes.
1:16:55Mark Medina:That's pretty good.
1:16:57Justin Davis:I made sure to check. At the very least. I checked beforehand to make sure he does not wear a hat in case you guys asked that. He just has a little, what is it? Like a little scarf? Yeah. Or a cloak. What should I have said? If you asked if you could see your hands, how should I have answered that?
1:17:18Mark Medina:You cannot see hands in this game. Yeah.
1:17:20Justin Davis:No, you cannot. You can't see your hands.
1:17:26Justin Davis:All right. Thanks, everyone.
1:17:27Mark Medina:Bye, everyone.
1:17:28Justin Davis:Thanks, everybody.
