In short

IGN GameScoop’s “100 Questions Challenge” (Thanksgiving week tradition). Three hosts (Damon Hatfield, Nick Limone, Justin Davis) answer 100 total yes/no questions across five suggested games, with leftover questions becoming “truth or dare.” They also trade commentary on gaming history and current play.

Guests (hosts)

Damon Hatfield (host), Nick Limone (co-host; returns to the challenge), Justin Davis (co-host). No other guests appear; “guests” are the in-studio hosts.

Key claims

They successfully identify all five games within 70 questions total. They discuss why certain older games feel better now (e.g., Shadow of the Colossus remake) and debate modern design choices (e.g., Burnout Paradise lacking crash/restart options). They recommend language-learning (Babbel), gaming peripherals (Logitech G), and other sponsors, but the core is the quiz.

Notable examples (the five games)

Shadow of the Colossus (PS2 original), Burnout Paradise, Vector Man (Sega Genesis), Typing of the Dead (Dreamcast/arcade), Donkey Kong Country Returns (Switch port).

2:08Justin Davis:What's up, everybody? Welcome to a very special edition of IGN GameScope. Sort of a yearly tradition this has become. This is our yearly 100 questions challenge that we always do the week of Thanksgiving. I'm your host, Damon Hatfield. Joining me here in studio is Nick Limone. I'm back, baby. And Justin Davis is here as well. Scoop. We got a small crew, only two of you. Only two of you to take on this challenge today. I'm a little nervous. It's a lot of questions. It's like you made a whole Thanksgiving feast and then there's only two people to eat it all. That's so sad. Hope you guys. I got room though.

2:39My tummy's rumbling and I'm hungry.

2:41Justin Davis:Sam is in Tokyo. Mark got sick. Per is not here. I reached out to Seth Macy. He's on vacation already. There's just kind of a skeleton crew right here on the Tuesday of the week of Thanksgiving. And obviously we have Thursday and Friday off, but then even tomorrow, Wednesday, not a lot of stuff. I don't know what you're talking about. I'm going to be working 24-7 for the next 24 hours. I'm sure, I'm sure. Yeah, but you should pour one out and keep your local commerce editors in your thoughts and prayers. The commerce editors are just now ramping up. Absolutely working this week, for sure. Click those affiliate links, y 'all.

3:19Yeah.

3:20Justin Davis:So 100 questions. What's that? We get 50 questions apiece. Yeah, you could look at it that way, sure. 100 questions. Everyone knows 20 questions. This is that times five. I've picked five games. Five games that are suggested by Scoop Nation. 100 questions total. Nick, have you done this version of the game before? Yeah, I've done this before. I think once. Okay, yeah. So for everyone out there listening and watching, they have 100 questions total that means if they guess a game and fewer than 20 questions they've banked extra questions and they can so that you can end up asking 30 questions on on one game if that's how long it takes you so 100 questions total and you always have the option to if you're just if you're burning questions and you're not getting anywhere close to it you have the option to just skip skip it move on to the next game maybe there'll be time to revisit that one at the end And it's up to you guys.

4:10Justin Davis:100 questions. We can just skip. What's that? The loophole. We'll just skip all five and then we can just all knock off early and go get some. I mean, there's that too. Short episode this week. If you get all five, you will win a great feeling of satisfaction. Ooh. Yeah. For any banked questions that we have left at the end, then we get to ask Damon questions and then he has to tell the truth no matter what they are. Oh, yeah. Okay. Okay, so banged questions go into truth or dare. Yeah, they become truth or dare. Hey, it's only fair. Well, let's kick things off then. Our first one, first game comes from Mark in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

4:51Justin Davis:Okay, Mark from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He has a little anecdote that I'll share after the game is revealed. So with that, let the questioning begin. We all get the pre-question anecdote? It's spoilery. Okay, okay, okay. um before this is not one of my 100 questions okay based off the five games damon do you think we'll win uh yes i really think you'll have nobody to blame there's one in here okay four out of five i think are okay that's and one of them's just a little bit you know i i think we've talked about every game uh on this list at some point on game scoop cool got it got it okay Understood.

5:35Don't tell us which one is borderline hard mode. We'll figure it out. Did this game come out in the 70s, 80s, or 90s? No. Is this game made in Japan? Yes. Japanese modern. Is this game exclusive to a console when it first came out? Yes. Is this game on Nintendo consoles? Nope. Is it exclusive to the to a PlayStation console.

6:05Justin Davis:Yes, that is five. 95 questions to go. I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it being phrased that way. Just something about it.

6:20You know what, F it. Is this on the PlayStation 4?

6:25Justin Davis:Well,

6:29Justin Davis:a version of this is on PlayStation 4. okay so that means it's maybe it's like through like playstation now or something i think it's metal gear solid 4 okay um is this a konam hold on hold on yeah yeah i don't know if i actually was that game on xbox i don't even know uh metal gear solid 4 was not never but it is ported never ever correct and actually it's not been ported to anything so it's only on the ps3 metal gear solid 4 specifically on the ps3 or ps4 it's only on the ps3 it's never been ported to anything else so that one actually would not apply well maybe it's metal your solid five thank you for saving me for myself um let's full disclosure that's when i said four i meant five gotcha but wasn't okay anyway we can we can get off this topic um uh was this game developed or published by sony yes alright well that's that PS3 maybe PS4 exclusive developed or published by Sony made in Japan I don't know Shadow of the Colossus Last Guardian yeah there's like that dual pack that got remastered um is this game part of a series or franchise no yeah looking good

8:01is this game from a studio that still exists? Well. Because Studio Japan no longer exists, but Fumito Ueda is making a new game. Got him! No. I think we're at Studio Japan, baby. Yeah. All right. Has this game been remade by Bluepoint Games?

8:28Justin Davis:Yes. Okay, so it's the Shadow of the Colossus. Shadow of the Colossus. But we think it's... Yeah, does it matter if it's... We think it's the original. Well, does it matter if it's the original or if it's the remake? Are we calling these two different games? Technically, he says... Does this game... Is this like a great game, but does it run at like 12 FPS? Yes. Okay. Okay. Is it Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2? Shadow of the Colossus, PS2. Yeah, there you go. Original Shadow of the Colossus. Got there in 12 questions. eight. I feel pretty strong right now, Justin. Yeah. I wonder if it's hard.

9:04I've never thought about this when I was, but like in Damon's shoes, when we're busy spoofing and goofing the whole time, I wonder if it's hard to keep track of the number of questions.

9:13Justin Davis:I've always got them on my hands. Yeah. You don't see it. It's just off frame, but I've been looking at those hands. Yeah. I forgot about that. Well, that water classes. There's my, like one of my favorite ones. It's such a cool arena. Mark says, when this game originally came out on PS2, I really didn't understand the hype. It chugged and seemed so empty. But as an older gamer now and experiencing the remake, it is now one of my all-time favorites. It's easy to just pick up after a hard day of work, take down a Colossus, then put it down. Simple and fun while also being gorgeous to look at. Amen.

9:47Okay, never mind. I'm not going to make the joke I was thinking about making.

9:51Justin Davis:Okay, okay. A couple of fun facts. Do you know what the code name for this game was during development? I think this is very cute. It's codenamed Nico in ICO because spiritual successor to Ico and Ni means two in Japanese. That's cute. Very, very cute. Very cute.

10:12Justin Davis:When I'm traveling, I find that learning a few real phrases in the local language really changes the experience in a good way. If you're traveling this summer, here's a real travel hack. Don't wait until you land to start learning the language. Instead, try Babbel. Even just 10 minutes a day with Babbel can help you start having real conversations in as little as three weeks. It helps you learn phrases you'd use ordering dinner, asking for directions, or talking with locals. Lessons are quick, practical, and built by more than 200 language experts. They have interactive dialogue and even podcasts.

10:40Justin Davis:It's all designed to get you speaking quickly and confidently. Babbel fits into your schedule. A coffee break, a commute, or a few minutes before bed. I've used Babbel to brush up on my Spanish before traveling to Mexico and to learn a little Dutch on a visit to Amsterdam last year. Babbel's award-winning app has sold over 25 million subscriptions and is backed by a 14-day money-back guarantee. If you've got summer travel coming up, now's the time to start so you can actually use what you learn on the trip. Right now, Babbel is offering listeners up to 60 % off. Go to babbel.com slash gamescoop.

11:10Justin Davis:That's Babbel, B-A-B-B-E-L dot com slash gamescoop for up to 60 % off. Rules and restrictions may apply. Look, we've all been there. You've got the angle, you've got the timing, but you still lose the trade. In competitive gaming, milliseconds aren't just a stat, they're the difference between a trophy and a GG Next. That's why the team at Logitech G just changed the game again with the new Pro X2 Super Strike. This isn't just an upgrade, it's a total reimagining of the mouse click. It features the revolutionary HITS technology, that's the haptic inductive trigger system. They've ditched traditional switches for magnetic sensors that give you an up to 30 millisecond advantage.

11:47Justin Davis:Think about that, you're literally clicking faster than the speed of human reaction. And the customization is insane. You can tune your actuation points across 10 levels and even adjust the haptic intensity. Whether you want a crisp, sharp snap or a hair trigger rapid fire, the SuperStrike adapts to you. Under the hood, you're looking at the Hero 2 sensor pushing a massive 44 ,000 dpi and a blazing 8k polling rate. At just 61 grams with 90 hours of battery life, it's built to outlast your longest grind. If you're serious about climbing the ranks in Valorant, CS2, or Apex, this is the weapon of choice for the world's best pros for a reason.

12:23Justin Davis:Stop playing fair and start playing faster. Go to LogitechG.com and enter code GAMESCOOP25 at checkout to save 25 % off Logitech G products. Just a quick note, some exclusions apply and the promo is non-stackable with other offers. Grab the Super Strike today. The winning click is finally here. All right, you guys are in good shape. 12 questions in next suggestion comes from thwarted junk who says this is definitely one of my favorite redacted games to date yeah you gotta be careful though because the redacted could be favorite games to hate on because it's terrible you never know let the questioning continue uh okay did this game come out in the 70s 80s or 90s no okay it's another modern

13:19is this a game is this game exclusive to the Xbox series of consoles no sorry that was a bad question you're out here trying to metagame there's no connection between the five it's five random it's just chaos out here there's no system um okay uh was this game made in japan no okay

13:52was this game made in the united states no uh-oh okay yeah i mean that basically confirms it's it's a rare game a late Nintendo era rare game but late I mean that would be what though it's ukulele I don't know maybe Nintendo maybe rare didn't make any Nintendo games after 2000 maybe they were all done no it's Star Fox Adventures that's what it is um let's see is this game in the ps2 gamecube xbox line of hardware no okay rip so it's a little more modern could could still be ukulele it could be banjo kazooie nuts and bolts but that is exclusive to xbox yeah that's why i don't know if i i don't know if i actually think it's a rare game but not made in america not made in japan could be korean i mean it could be australian team bondy yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah you're right good call okay okay okay okay what uh what did you just ask uh it's not a ps2 xbox or gamecube era game okay uh what about the next generation ps3 xbox 360 what i guess we xbox one and then oh my bad yeah my bad all right no we yeah not xbox one sorry brain are you asking 360 yeah you're asking if it's 360 360 generation correct yes okay okay so maybe it is team bandai it could be la noir la noir yeah uh i don't know why we always latch on to just yep it's got to be this one game uh i just like to do it is this i'm addicted to like the one time in my life that it was that you're calling you're calling your shot ever since is this an open world game yes oh maybe it is la noir damn yeah i feel like we just had that or maybe we thought it was like just just cause is also like that that got its start during this era and i believe that's a european based studio um uh avalanche studios which i believe is like swedish or something um are they are they are they making what hogwarts legacy 2 is that them no that's portkey games that's wb games is that okay yeah they also did mad max i think um nobody nobody knows it could be Mad Max by the way if it was them 360 era Saints Row you got your Just Causes you got your LA Noir your GTA 4 which Rockstar what about just GTA I mean Rockstar is what they're Scottish right would they still be considered a Scottish yeah right because Rockstar North no Rockstar North well i mean yeah so i'm getting in my head get out of my head uh okay so it's it's open world it's ps3 360 generation um uh is this game part of a series yes um let's see what's the does this game focus on like street level crimes what that's a grand theft auto insane show right there i guess that'd be la noir 2 damn

17:35Justin Davis:that was a bad question yes okay this game focuses on street level crime so it's not just cause because then that's like international stuff i i don't think that was that bad it eliminates mad max it eliminates just cause david's making a look now which makes me think it's just cause is there a grapple hook in this game no okay it's not just cause that's 10 questions i had to get it out of my system i'm sorry just 10 questions into this game that's fine okay saints row LA Noire and Grand Theft Auto is there any other things that we're missing? any like glaring or mystery? street level crime I guess just wait Crackdown yeah except that's an exclusive oh we don't I don't think we know if this is an exclusive well we know is this game multi-platform?

18:23yes alright so it's LA Noire GTA I think it is probably GTA V is this game that's my guess does let's see. Did this game get 10 out of 10? Well, hold on. I know we're not allowed to use our computers, but I'm going to... Hold on. We can narrow it down. IGN GTA 5. We can narrow it down. Is this set in a fictionalized New York? No. Hold on. That's GTA 4. Yeah, exactly. So it's not. No, I said GTA 5. Oh, shit. Damn it. Okay, so now we just know LA. It's either GTA 5, L.A. Noire, or a Saints Row game. I like that you've narrowed it down to these three. There are dozens and dozens of other open world games that it could be.

19:19I mean, I think that those three are the most likely. But street level crimes? Did this game get a 10 out of 10 from IGN? No. All right. Not GTA 5. did this game I don't know how to narrow down Saints Row I mean they got sillier and sillier as they went and we know it's a part of a series right you asked that question earlier yeah yeah so Saints Row Saints Row 1 is a launch 360 like launch era Saints Row 2 has an insurance fraud mini game that's all I know about that I don't think was that you don't think that I think that game was made in the United States Saints Row yeah that's isn't that um volition i i think i don't even know i can't even tell you but it and then what was the third series you thought it might be oh it was um crack crackdown was the last one that i came in it's not that is this game is this game it's part of a series okay never mind i'm not gonna ask what i was about to ask which is is it based on a license at this point um you should use your hack The hack.

20:30Have we mentioned the name of this game? No. Oh, shit. Okay. I guess it's not L.A. Noire. Not L.A. Noire. Not Saints Row. Not anything we've mentioned. So I don't. It being part of a series. Because there was also like the Godfather. And like Scarface. And like weird open world games from that era. But they're not part of a series. Mafia. So I don't think it's one of them. yeah that's a pretty good call could be mafia 2 street level crime it fits it's multi-plat was is this game set in a historical time period no okay not a mafia game that's 15 questions on this round rip i feel like we're on the cusp of it we're like right there um let's see street level crime is there a super be a superhero game yeah is this a superhero game no what other street level crime games are there it's part of a series uh there's sleeping dogs that's not that's not part of a series you're right it's a great game though it is a good game there was those two oh but it's not licensed there was the the what the kung fu games did we ask if it was?

21:56I don't think you actually asked the license question, did you? Well, but I guess I'm just assuming it's not because it's part of a series and how many licensed games got multiple things that are not superhero themed. But there was like, you know, there's like weird there was like, you know, Jet Li had a game back then, a bunch of weird stuff.

22:18Jackie Chan. There was Mark Echoes getting up. You remember that game, Damon? That's a good game.

22:24Justin Davis:I never played it. 360 era i don't know if it was actually good i you know it was okay uh street level crimes why do you keep repeating that why do i street true crime streets of la uh no that's ps2 yeah that could that's ps2 era yeah but there was but there was a sequel there was true crime streets of new york but it's not something it's not what but that's it's not modern it's not a fictionalized new york though remember no we did specifically ask oh man maybe the the name streets street level crimes is that is that in the thing is that in the title i was thinking about like we so it's open world but then i was thinking it might not be like it could be like uh what was the open world racing game that rockstar made midnight midnight club midnight club and then and then i was thinking about stuff like that or like you know forza horizon although that's not crime except technically speeding's need for speed yeah need for speed hot pursuit that's like something like that i don't think damon would do that to us but it's an open world game yeah like an open world racing game do we want to ask if it's a racing game no are you running around on foot mostly in this game no

24:01okay okay okay we're on to something maybe it's midnight club is that was rockstar I don't remember which Rockstar studio I mean this was before they went like I mean it could be Is this a racing game? Yes Dude Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Yeah see I don't know Did they even make I didn't even know that they made three of them I can only remember one and two I don't know when they came out Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition I believe would have been this era. I don't know if there's a racing game that has more to do with crime than, you know, you could like draw a little bit about crime because street racing is illegal, but like the need for speeds literally have you evading the police need for speed.

24:53Most wanted was like an Xbox 360 launch title. I believe launch window. That was. And I wonder if, uh, do you think maybe criterion made that who's not, that would be burned in the United States or no way. that'd be burnout revenge. And that was a PS2 game. But what about burnout paradise? That's open world. Oh yeah. That is open world. That's that era. Was this game published by EA? Yes. So it could be. Is this game burnout paradise? Yes. All right.

25:24Justin Davis:On 20 questions. okay. Woo. Street level crimes. Yeah. Thanks. Damon's helping us out. I know. I know this. I replayed Burnout 2. I was going to say recently. I'm realizing now it was last holiday break, so almost a year ago. Just a fantastic game. Just so great. Burnout Paradise is deeply disappointing to me. Oh, I love Paradise. I think Takedown is my personal favorite and then Revenge, but I do think that Burnout Paradise has probably my first two minutes of a video game ever where you're in the loading screen and then uh paradise city starts playing and then the game just seamlessly rolls into it and you just begin racing pretty sick opening yeah no i mean all of that stuff's great and the promise of like you know anything any intersection is a new event and then it's all racetracks and it's all just free flowing and go whatever you want but it's like so killed by like not having a restart option like not no crash mode it's just yeah no crash mode and i just love the arcade nature of what Burnout was before that.

Read the full transcript

26:31I've been replaying some Burnout 3 Takedown recently, just for funsies. Good time.

26:36Justin Davis:This is like an example of like, these games did not have to go away. I don't know, why are these games just not being made today? Revolutionary feature, the aftertouch. Your car's already exploded, you can still just move it around because why not? It's more fun. And then so Burnout's gone, and yet Forza Horizon is one of the biggest video game franchises on the planet, right? And it's like somebody messed up somewhere. give me a crash mode in forza horizon come on yeah they gotta get the uh the licensees yeah they got they gotta get lexus to sign off on that fordajunk says i used to spend days inside a game stop because my mom worked a few stores down from them enough for the employees to joke about charging me rent and i would play the demo of burnout paradise repeatedly at a pc station they had it's definitely one of my favorite racing games to date i think one of the first games that It also had in-game online advertising.

27:30I think Barack Obama ran ads in the game, if I'm not mistaken.

27:35Justin Davis:That's funny because it came out in 08, which would have been that was an election. There was a startup. I can't remember the name of the company now, but that was their thing. If your game was online, the billboards in the game could change and you could buy the ad space. In-game advertising in a racing game makes sense to me. yeah it was 2008 for 360 ps3 and pc it was remastered in 2018 for ps4 and xbox one and then that version came to the switch in 2020 nice and criterion is not around anymore or i think they're still around but i'm not sure what they've been doing yeah they're on didn't they get like subsumed into like dice and stuff like that yeah i think they're a part of battlefield now, if I'm not mistaken.

28:23That sounds right to me.

28:24Justin Davis:Yeah. Or did they do Battlefront? Yeah, I think so. Alright, alright, alright.

28:32Justin Davis:When people hear that Mint Mobile plans are only$15 per month, a lot of people wonder, what's the catch? Well, there isn't one. 29:02Justin Davis:It's so easy. Sign up online and get three months of premium wireless service for 15 bucks a month. That is right, Damien. And so, yeah, easy to use Mint Mobile website, easy purchase, easy activation. I am pretty stoked on it. To get your new wireless plan for just$15 a month, go to mintmobile.com slash game scoop.

31:24Justin Davis:Okay, we guys are still in good shape. 32 questions in. You still have... Two games down. Yeah, two games down. You still have eight banked questions. Let's move on to round... Ooh, I think I skipped... Wait. Oh, no, I didn't write. You're fine. Round three. This is Tom from Corning, New York. And they've suggested a 20 questions game that they can't believe hasn't been used before. Never used before. Never been used before. Did this game come out in the 70s, 80s, or 90s? Yes. Okay. Was this game released on the original NES? No. Is this game in the Super Nintendo? No. Uh-oh. Sega. Or an arcade game.

32:03Was this game originally released for the Sega Genesis? Yes. Oh, man. this is a bit of a blind spot for me all right let's see if we can do this but it's interesting that it's genesis and not super nintendo so you know we got that going for us was it uh developed or published by sega yes that's vector man it's vector man i think i think vector man's super plausible guess that's like one of the games i've played it's also very possible that over all of 20 questions like we've never had sonic 3 you know or something like that like Damon doesn't often like to do sequels, but, you know, sometimes.

32:41I mean, is this game part of a series? Yes. Okay, maybe the Sonic Dream is still alive. Yeah. Well, there's two Vector Mans. Oh, I only played the first one. Yeah, everybody only played the first one because the second one's not that great. I have a real soft spot in my heart for Vector Man. Good game. Yeah, it is a good game. And he goes, whoa, when he gets up to a ledge. Great splash screen on that Sega screen where you get to just see Vector Man and you can destroy the whole logo and stuff. Okay, was this game made by Sonic Team?

33:16Justin Davis:No.

33:20Is this game Star Robot? Yeah. Dude, is it Vector Man? Is the Vector Dream still alive? Is this the first game in a series? Yes. You can do it, Dick. I just want to take a second to think about it because there might be other robot games. Like, it's like, it's like fantasy star four star, like a robot or like something. Uh, I think, can we ask if it features vectors? I think it's, I think we're, I think we're probably safe. I think we're good to go. Uh, I'm going to, should I do it? Do it. Is it, is it vector man? Sure. It's vector man.

34:07Justin Davis:yeah and you had that at like uh like question four you said it's vector man you great boss look at how good this game looks yeah this is the boss of the first level this was sega i think blue sky who's defunct they're not in business anymore they develop software and and so it was never like officially i was about to say it was their answer to donkey kong country but that's not true at all like but but from a well not like you know like they didn't like blue sky made it right like it's not like sega's like we gotta have an answer yeah it's like a publisher though yeah but like just the visuals like the pseudo 3d yeah it was like so good and so cool yeah um yeah i was i mean i know i goof i goof on um sonic the hedgehog in the genesis now a lot but i was a genesis kid growing up and i i have very fond memories of vector man yeah you mention it on the show quite often and that's why i think it was funny that we've never used this game for 20 questions before i was gonna say i think i feel like it does come up kind of a lot you could destroy the sega logo right as vector man or do you just shoot like in the top right corner and something falls down that you can do both the tank level oh my gosh yeah yeah this game was great like look at this look at the 3d yeah it's so cool vector man himself is made up how many 23 separate sprites on just vector man that's what that's right that's what they call parallax scrolling right there right i've never played this level this level looks insane this is so cool yeah it's it's awesome it's a good game yeah and then also vector man 2 was a deep disappointment i'm pretty sure they made three vector men on the genesis well no there's only two but one of the very very first e3s i ever went to i played vector man 3 which was a 3d you know game and then it was it never was released you're right okay yeah it was going to be it was going to be on the sega saturn and i think you know i think i was 18 years old or whatever and then like oh vector man 3 was just at e3 and i thought that was the coolest thing i'd ever seen in my life and then you know is end up in lost media yeah weird that's great somewhere out there in a bin there's like a prototype code yep for vector man 3 it was pretty bad you guys are doing very well it's just like that is that early early 3d era right like it just wasn't really working.

36:27Justin Davis:42 questions down, three rounds in, and you're going into your fourth round. You guys are doing good. I feel like that could have been the hard one. That wasn't the hard one. Oh, okay. Dang.

37:50Justin Davis:that brings us to round four comes from jim galligan who offers no location and no anecdote dude unknown all right let me let me let me kick this one off is it 70s 80s or 90s yes oh there's a hesitation in that though i think it's pronounced jim gaffigan this one is galligan oh so it's not the comedian no jim galligan unless it's jim gaffigan who and he's like oh i don't on the channel change jim gaffigan jim gaffigan if you're watching let us know um 70s 80s or 90s yes uh was this originally or did this come out on the nes no

38:31did this come out on the 16-bit consoles it's either arcade or like master system i guess i mean n64 oh yeah that's one yeah yeah you're right you're right you're right or handhelds

38:49is this a game yeah let's go for it is this a game uh on a cartridge no okay so it's a cd or arcade was this originally a ps1 game no that's five could be dreamcast could be a launch streamcast game or it could be an arcade game or something hinky like that is this an arcade game originally yes okay so it's probably on dreamcast 2 or at least it's been ported to a cd-based console did this game come out on the dreamcast yes house of the dead 2 and it yeah does this game uh it prominently feature or is there an option for like a weird non-controller control scheme.

39:42Justin Davis:Wait, hold on. Can you ask that in a different way? Can you use something like a fishing rod to control this game? A gun, fishing rod. Yeah, or a gun. A fishing rod or a gun. Or like a steering wheel. Fishing rod, gun, or steering wheel to control this game. None of those three things. Oh, no. Okay. it's not it's not sega bass fishing and it's not house of the dead house of the dead i didn't three sadly could still maybe technically be typing of the dead i think that might have come out later um so arcade game so i what your power stone yeah power stone i it can't be model versus capcom because we had that semi recently right and we talked about power stone when we were figuring out that it was I always forget that did Powerstone have an arcade port or was it on arcade first I don't know I think so nobody knows or it could be like is this a brawler no so it's not like you know it's not your I guess Powerstone is not a uh crazy taxi not a steering wheel yeah i go okay yeah you're right

41:09is this a is would you did you ask brawler thinking that that eliminated power stone yeah i did when i should have probably been fighting game is what i should have asked yeah this is because i assumed i assumed damon when you were asked brawler you think of streets of rage right that's what i was thinking was like side scrolling brawler that wasn't an arcade game right right right but like that type of game but i mean power is kind of like a fighting or like a multiplayer brawler okay okay okay so and he said no so that not not powerstone damon's damon's uh being generous uh i mean is it a fighting game no that's 10 i mean what so So an arcade game that came to the Dreamcast that is not a fighting game or brawler, but does not have weird controls.

42:05Well, I think specifically we did ask if it's a fishing rod gun or steering wheel. Okay. But to your point, though, your previous point is the keyboard. I'm kind of latched onto that, typing at a dead now. Yeah, I didn't think that that came till later. I didn't think that was from the 90s, but maybe it was. uh

42:28oh boy what else could we ask oh okay it could be a you know there's like Mars Matrix and like there are shmups back then I mean I don't know how I'm gonna like Radiant Silver I'm never gonna zero in on like which ones are on the Dreamcast is it a shmup? Nope

42:49uh is well I mean it it

42:57And it not being a brawler eliminates, I don't even know if any of these came out on arcades, but there was like, I also, I'm getting the dreamcasts in Saturn confused. I was thinking about like guardian heroes and, and you know, some of those brawlers beat them ups, but it's, it's none of them.

43:21Have we mentioned this game yet? yes oh shoot i dude i think it's typing of the dead bro do you can you control that do you control this game with a keyboard yes is there any is there is this typing of the dead yes yeah well done justin you yeah

43:45Justin Davis:what a weird game yeah dude this game rocks arcades in 1999 dreamcast and pc in 2001 it is this is a bummer about getting older this game just gets too easy though because like i know how to type yeah i think it's on i'm again i'm not using my keyboard while i'm playing but i'm using it now the game is on the yeah the game is on steam yeah it's also um for the longest time before it was on steam the version that's on steam is obviously available i'm pretty sure it's a bad version of the game if i'm not mistaken i don't mean to slander the game if that's not the case but there is an abandoned where version of the game that is the original release that fans have modded to make it playable on modern uh operating systems there's there's a three dollar dlc for the steam version that gives you filthy words to type what and the example the example in the screenshot is sexual tyrannosaur that's from predator dude that's a hard word to type if i'm fighting zombies it's not it it doesn't seem like it's like super filthy but just like blue like it's dripping dripping wart goo is one of them okay weird and it's like an official yeah dlc from sega it's the first it's the it's the first thing you see when you go to the steam page that rocks cool

45:10typing of the dead nicely job there's only one game left and you guys have asked 56 questions so

45:16Justin Davis:dude we got i think within 44 questions you can guess the final game man you're gonna be host on this truth or dare we're gonna learn so much about you i should have picked harder games no you guys are great all right last round let the question continue. This is from Evan from down east of Maine near Acadia National Park. Evan says, I recently started listening regularly to the show at work. I clean cars and you help me get through the second half of Slow Fridays. Nice. Cool.

45:48I mean, yeah, let's do it. I'm not trying to rack up the question count here. Is this from the 70s, 80s, or 90s? No. Okay. Can you play this game on the Switch? Yes. is this a Nintendo exclusive yes was it originally released on the switch no it's Mario Mario Kart 8 Metroid Prime because he's celebrating the fact that Metroid Prime 4 is coming out soon Metroid Prime 4 Metroid Prime excuse me could be Metroid Prime 4 if Damon wanted to be really sneaky um is this a platformer yes that's five

46:41Justin Davis:is this game 2d sorry 2d yes 2d platformer yes super super mario world super mario world 2 yeah yoshi's island is this game i don't is this game available as part of the nintendo switch online service no okay cool so that gets rid of retro games mario wonder

47:06yeah wait did i ask did we ask if it was originally released on the you did and the answer was no that's correct so that's that's what makes me not mario wonder correct and that makes me think it's like a gamecube game or like um a port like a like a skyward sword or a metroid prime yeah except it's a platformer 2d platformer yeah you're right you're right yeah this is a little bit tricky after all it's not on switch online but was not originally released on the switch but it's a 2d platform it's like an older 2d platformer nintendo that then that nintendo was it developed or published by nintendo yes

47:48is this game have mar is this a mario game no yeah that's what i thought i'm like i'm barking up the wrong tree it's gotta be something else why am i blanking on 2d nintendo games like that fit this criteria that are not mario uh like i guess see what's gotten a port to the switch that would make sense well what's a platformer that doesn't star mario a lot of those could be what is it one of those weird yoshi yarn games there's a million of those woolly the woolly world and yarn kirby's epic yarn and does this game feature any mario cast of characters yes okay that's 10 so we're in the right territory here this was there i don't even I don't know.

48:36This is a slight blind spot for me. There's these Yoshi games. There's Yoshi's Wooly World, Yoshi's 3D Crafted World. There's... I mean, one of those must have been a Wii U game, you know, that then came out later. Yeah, it's got to be like Wooly World. I think Crafted World is an actual, like...

49:01i don't like the yoshi games used to be pretty hardcore super mario world 2 is pretty hardcore and yoshi's island ds is like particularly like hardcore and then now they've made yoshi like the little kid yeah kind of like kind of a baby game yeah they've been very pretty but kind of baby game um is this a is does this game feature star yoshi no shoot wait a second it's a mario characters oh there was princess pichos showtime but that was a switch exclusive yeah that's what i'm talking about there what wait what about wario he's up to no good all the time i mean war the last 2d wario wario game was that was a platformer was the gamecube one and i guess there was one on we what about luigi new luigi's but there's obviously luigi's mansion but those aren't platformers and then there was the new luigi you yeah new luigi you but did that come out uh is that on the switch that is on the switch maybe it did come out on the switch it is on the switch as part of a new super Mario Brothers plus Luigi Youth combo pack thing I think I know what it is I think it's Donkey Kong oh yeah Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze I think it's either Tropical Freeze or Returns and it's a Mario Kassa character yeah yeah does this game star Donkey Kong yep which one is it um i mean tropical freeze versus uh return donkey kong country returns i can't think about donkey kong country returns just recently got a switch port too like it's like a fairly new weirdly new yeah switch it came out right before like this year right before yeah did this game come out this year yes on the switch yes okay so it's got to be is it dk is it donk on country returns yep donk on country originally a wii game in 2010 also a 3ds game

51:18Justin Davis:3ds in 2013 and then came to switch this january it's really weird when this one came out when it did yeah i mean we're we're in that like late switch era where like nintendo clearly had to like buy time for a year but it's like they released tropical freeze for the switch before they did this one yeah which is like yeah but tropical freeze was like year one of the switch It's just like, you know, we, I mean, first of all, the Switch kind of got Nintendo ports throughout the console's life cycle. But we particularly got them in the first year or two when they were giving us Wii U games and giving them a second shot at life.

51:53And then we got them in kind of the final year where they're like, oh, no, we need, we need more games. I've never actually played this game. I've only played Tropical Freeze, which rules. And I've just heard that this is like a worse version of Tropical Freeze. Not that it's bad, just not as good as Tropical Freeze.

52:10Justin Davis:when did Tropical Freeze first come out that was Wii U that was Wii U that was like what 2013 or something 13, 14, 15 well my friends you've completely aced we crushed it a total of 70 questions 5 games you got them all in 70 questions I wonder if that's a record we never went over 20 questions per game right No, but we got it on 20. Yep. Hey, it counts. A win's a win. Shadow of the Colossus, Burnout Paradise, Vector Man, Typing of the Dead, and Donkey on Country Returns. Nicely job. Yeah. Indeed. Burnout Paradise was the diciest one out of all those. Well done, Justin. Street level crimes. Street level crimes.

52:59Damon's helping us out.

53:01Justin Davis:I got you back. Let's see, real quick before we go, Nick, you plan to play anything over the short little break here? honestly ever since we've been doing our uh our our conversation about game of the century watch and during this time of year i always get into a fantasy dungeons and dragons mood so i've been jumping back into baldur's gate 3 and i'm i'm looking to push credits on it now i'm oh i'm that game's got its grips on me and i'm i'm like so all in on dungeons and dragons and just like fae run forgotten realm stuff that i'm i'm reading volos guide to monsters i'm i'm all in on just source books and learning about Faerun and all of the deities and creatures.

53:39I just love learning about monsters. It's like, you're telling me there's a whole book that has monsters in it? Yes, please. I will read that book from beginning to end. Even though I don't really plan on playing Dungeons & Dragons. So yeah, Baldur's Gate 3 and also another game that I am planning on playing. I just don't know if you've announced anything yet about...

53:58Justin Davis:So yeah, the first episode of Is It Still Fun Today? just went live today, so Ocarina of Time. That will be showing up in your GameScoop feeds. You can also watch the video on our YouTube channel. But yeah, new show, Is It Still Fun Today? We replay old games to answer the question, is it still fun today? We started things off with Ocarina of Time, and we've got our next episode lined up. It'll be publishing early in the new year, and so we'll be playing that over December, and we can make that announcement at a later date. Yeah, I need to play that too. But I'm going to be playing that as well.

54:28Justin Davis:And you brought up Game of the Century Watch. I've been tallying all the votes I put the question out on all the socials Facebook, Twitter, Blue Sky just everywhere, like what are the best games of the century so far, I'm tallying up everything there have been a lot of tiebreakers that I have to do so yesterday, there was a tiebreaker between Halo 3 and Bioshock, so I put a poll I put a poll on our Facebook group you know, which one do you think is better the poll came out 50-50 exactly, people can't decide between Halo 3 and Bioshock yeah i mean both great games that are indicative of the 360 era and so right now today i'm running gta 5 or half-life 2 right now after being up for a couple hours gta 5 has 49 half-life 2 has 51 oh these are really close games that's not what i would expect yeah gta 5 versus half-life yeah but they're they're basically neck and neck half-life 2 is a much better game than gta 5 100 % agree.

55:28Justin Davis:That's my opinion as well. I mean, GJ5 is just a monster. So anyway. The Half-Life, the Half-Life first Bioshock thing is interesting to me. I'm sure a decade ago or whenever, like when they were more contemporary, Bioshock would have run away with it by far. But I think it's like more time has gone by. People are like, wait a second. Like maybe this game's not quite as like smart as I thought it was. People have wonderful memories of playing Halo 3 multiplayer. Right. And that'll just, that'll do a lot of heavy lifting for them as well i mean that's like xbox live gold membership plus halo 3 equals fun yeah there's been there's been you know 20 years of you know capitalism bad question mark games since bioshock and it doesn't feel quite as fresh anymore which is not bioshock's fault at all that's true like you know i think it does make halo 3 shine all the brighter so on an upcoming episode we'll have we'll have the definitive list the top 25 games of the century so far it's gonna be really why isn't chrono trigger on this list what the heck yeah uh i'm glad we solved it yeah definitively no one can get mad no one can get mad uh justin what are you gonna be playing over the next few days back to you obsessed no i've been off of factorio for a little bit now i've been really obsessed with um with disney dream light valley yeah i think i've shared on the show before the more stressed out i get the more like chill game i need so it's been a lot of like vampire survivors and and ddv as we call it um they just released an expansion right yeah i'm not even in the expansion i'll get there i'm i'm currently trying to get my friendship level with elsa up to max which i need to get her to 10 out of 10 friendship level in order to do the quests that i need to do but what i actually want to talk about is i've downloaded and i'm going to start dispatch i'm super excited oh there you go i know i'm really i just like you you know, they did such a good job with it in those episodes coming out so quickly.

57:25So I'm like a little bit bummed that I missed the zeitgeist. It's like the new episodes were dropping, but like, I'm so glad that it seems to have finished strong and like, it's getting such a hearty recommendation from, you know, people who I know and trust that I'm excited to get, dig into it. I didn't get a chance to talk. I don't think I was on a game scoop during that game's release, but I gobbled up each episode as they dropped. And it's one of my favorite stories I've experienced in a long time. It's one thing to, you know, I don't really have any interest in discussing whether or not it's a game because very clearly it is.

57:56But it takes, it's one thing entirely to just tell a story, but to tell a story well, it's, you know, competing against prestige television, against films. And I think this thing goes bar for bar with anything currently on TV or anything releasing in movie theaters. This is just a good story that's being told. And I am very stoked that people seem to be globbing onto it.

58:19Justin Davis:Well, maybe this is what I should play because I finished Ghost of Yote a couple nights ago and I was going to bounce back to Outer Worlds 2 maybe, but maybe I should play Checkout Dispatch. Don't play it with the kids around. Well, no. I know that. For the kids, we've been playing, we got Super Mario Party Jamboree. Oh, that's such a good one. That's a fun one. I've never played much of Mario Party at all, but everyone knows the games are just dead simple, but it's totally fun to play with the kids and they're like laughing and hooting and hollering. If I may make a wreck in the Mario Party vein, Lego just released a Mario Party-like that rules.

58:57I don't quite remember the name of it.

58:59Justin Davis:Yeah, I know the one you mean. Very good. And it's like, I'm glad someone's made a Mario Party competitor. That's actually good. Yeah. And yeah, people seem to be digging it. And I've seen quite a bit of gameplay. I was like, yeah, this looks fun. Yeah, we should check that one out. Did you finish Yotei? I have not. I don't think I will. You know, I was so hot on it. By the end, I was ready for it to be over, and my enthusiasm has dampened a little bit. Great game. Great game, but for the first half of it, I was like, this game is amazing. My favorite game of the year. Yeah, I don't know. Everything starts to feel...

59:34Justin Davis:The rewards for most of your quests are just a weapon kit, which is just different colors for your weapons and gear. And it's like, well, I don't really care about that. So I'll just mainline the quest. And then the villain is just like, out of all the people that she wants to kill and get revenge on, the main villain is the least interesting one. It's like, think about Kill Bill. At the end, Kill Bill is a very well-rounded and fleshed-out character, even though he's obviously evil. It's like he has his own point of view and a justification for what he did. But here, it's just an evil guy. Just an evil guy that killed your family.

1:00:07Justin Davis:So anyway, good game. Very good game, in fact. but I didn't end up liking it as much as I thought I would. Very pretty game. Very pretty game. All right. Anything else for us to do here? Are we going to... I think we ate everything with a big old spoon and we're ready to take our power nap. Yep, you did. Very nicely job. Very impressive work. For just a two-person team, usually you have at least one more person helping you. So viewers, listeners, if you have your own suggestions for a video game, 20 questions or just questions for us in general on the show, email them to me at the email address, gamescoop at IGN.com.

1:00:45Justin Davis:Hope everybody has, if you're in the United States, hope you have a really fun and safe holiday weekend.
