In short

This episode of Hanging Out is a “bonus” mailbag and chat segment with Ant and Dec, mixing comedy, listener letters, and celebrity anecdotes. They discuss wrestling as pantomime, invent wrestler names (Mighty Moose / Furious Forehead), and reminisce about their Takeaway on tour (Team Ant vs Team Deck, giant ball arena game, celebrity guest announcers, and car giveaways). They react to a Eurovision bet: Dec gets a huge “TATTOO” thigh tattoo after Loreen’s 2023 win. They also read listener ideas for celebrating their one-year anniversary, including Irish dancing (Dec’s past training), live waxing (Joel Domit’s hairy legs are referenced), and voice/t trailer suggestions (Vincent Price, movie-trailer voice).

Notable examples

Chesney Hawks visiting them in Las Vegas; Joel Domit’s Ant/Dec leg tattoos; Gemini AI push-up form feedback.

Guests

no formal guests; only referenced/featured people include Mel C, Peter Andre, Chesney Hawks, Joel Domit, and Michael Flatley (mentioned as a possible Irish-dancing teacher).

1:28Ant McPartlin:Do we just start it like this?

1:30Declan Donnelly:It's what they called a cold opener. Yeah, it's cold opening. Welcome once again to hanging out. We're on. We're on, this is it. I thought I would wear the Czechia shirt this week.

1:40Ant McPartlin:Well, when you're in Canada, it is.

1:42Declan Donnelly:One of us. I think one of us from now on has to wear a Czechia shirt.

1:45Ant McPartlin:Okay. What if we both wear Czechia shirts at the same time?

1:49Declan Donnelly:That might be a bit too much for our UK viewers. Right. Our Canadian viewers will love it. Right. But I think we should alternate. It's a bonus app. We've got questions from you guys. Oh, right. Oh, yes, we have. Sorry, I've got the post bag. Dragged it all the way from the UK. Filled it up. Oh, oh. I'll put it over here. I'll put it next to the stove. Well, what could possibly go wrong? It's not on, is it? No, it's not on. It's not on. Have we named him yet, Moosey? No. We're sticking with Moosey, yeah? Brucey. Moosey. Brucey. Yeah, Moosey.

2:19Ant McPartlin:That's what I said. Moosey. Keep your suggestions for Brucey's name. No, Brucey's too British. Hanging out at beltbox.com. Thank you for all of your letters by airmail. Airmail. we are going to go through some of them I will start shall I why not

2:34Declan Donnelly:why not you're next I like these God do you remember airmail stamps when you were a kid yeah big thing wasn't it not so much anymore what

2:42Ant McPartlin:now you just email

2:43Declan Donnelly:oh is that was that worth it look at that is that worth it you've got an airmail stamp

2:49Ant McPartlin:save the trees guys save the trees and what would your wrestling name be

2:56Declan Donnelly:from G.A. Brewer what would your wrestler names be you are included in this this is not just for me I don't know what would they be called sir I think they do you go on what you look like maybe is a wrestler or not well yeah

3:13Ant McPartlin:like the Undertaker he dressed as like an Undertaker yeah but then I suppose you had Hulk Hogan who just had a very distinctive look but Hulk is a good word Hulk is a great word so do you need like Mighty or

3:24Declan Donnelly:Biffy or Mighty Mouse

3:26Ant McPartlin:I'd be Mighty Mouse

3:27Declan Donnelly:that's a good one for you Mighty Mouse. Mighty Mouse. I mean, I don't know if you'd get away with that.

3:31Ant McPartlin:Why? Because it was a cartoon,

3:32Declan Donnelly:Mighty Mouse. But that's good.

3:33Ant McPartlin:That works for you. Mighty Mouse. The Mighty Moose. Now I'm in Canada. And it sounds quite Geordie. It does. Mighty Moose. Yeah, I read. He has the Mighty Moose. How are you, lads? What would you be? Something to do with... The eel. Slippery eel? Like, slippery like an eel.

3:51Declan Donnelly:No, I don't know. Slippery like an eel.

3:52Ant McPartlin:Smooth and slippery like an eel.

3:54Declan Donnelly:Smooth. Well, I start having to shave all my body hair. Again. And then just put loads of baby lotion on. They'd never get me. Yes. They'd never get me in the ring. I like it. I like it. I could never be pinned down. Oh, we got him in the ring. It has something to do with the forehead, I reckon. Yes. So that big, big forehead. Furious forehead. The furious forehead. I like it. There you go. Furious forehead and the mighty moose. Or mouse. Good question, though. That's a great question. Is wrestling still a big thing? Not enough to me. I've never really been into wrestling. I've never been into the wrestling.

4:24Declan Donnelly:I never really. I always kind of thought it was pantomime. So when I was a kid, I mean, this has gone back years ago, on Saturday mornings, like Saturday afternoons on ITV, they used to have like the big daddy, giant hair stacks. Then it was like fun. Yeah. So I presume if you're still a kid and you like the pantomime of the whole thing, the theatre of it, the drama of it all, I can see why people get into it. And a lot of dads take their sons, don't they? A lot of parents take their kids. So it's a good day out for families. Is it? I've just never got into it. Nah, not for me. Not for me wrestling.

4:59Declan Donnelly:I've just never really got into it. I'll get into it once we start our wrestling careers with our new names, obviously.

5:03Ant McPartlin:This one is Matt from Liverpool. Is it a longer letter than the one I've just had? It is longer. It's worth the printout. Oh, good. Hi, I'm Dec and Heckler's Corner. Hi, hey. It will have been 12 years this month since I saw you guys live when you did Takeaway on tour in Liverpool. Good for you. You had some great guests. Mel C and Peter Andre. Oh, yeah. That was a good night. Yeah, good night. I still have the foam fingers of Team Ant and Team Deck from the Ant vs Deck segment. That was fun. I was on the Team Ant side of the arena, but sadly, Team Deck won. I think we won most of the time. Do you have any favourite moments from doing that tour?

5:42Declan Donnelly:Yeah, I really liked the tour, actually. It was a load of fun. We had a load of really good celebrities come along as guest announcers. We had people doing Sing Along Live. We played Win the Ads. We played Win the Ads.

5:55Ant McPartlin:cars yeah most nights we gave away a car give away suzuki cars in the arena it's brilliant

6:00Declan Donnelly:and we did an versus deck where we would get the whole of the arenas involved and we had this one where they had these giant balls and then they get the balls from the back of the arena to the front of the arena on stage and whoever with if it was team out of team deck if we got a first and put it in the middle of the stage then you win so there's a lot of screaming and hollering a bit like wrestling. It's pantomime. But we were competitive. I have to say. I was really fit at the end of that tour.

6:26Ant McPartlin:Yeah.

6:26Declan Donnelly:I lost a lot of weight. Yeah. We used to run all the way the length of the arena. We used to climb up a rope ladder. That's right. Yeah. Get to the top and run all the way back.

6:34Ant McPartlin:Matt goes on to ask, would you consider doing another tour perhaps for this podcast?

6:39Declan Donnelly:Well, we asked this on the main pod last week and we said yes, Matt.

6:43Ant McPartlin:Yeah.

6:44Declan Donnelly:Would you do a tour though?

6:45Ant McPartlin:That's just time. Because you said doing Wembley Stadium with Shania Twain. That's what you came out with.

6:48Declan Donnelly:I think you said that.

6:50Ant McPartlin:I think I did. Would you do a tour? Would you go all around the country? I think you'd have to. In the nations and regions?

6:54Declan Donnelly:You'd have to. You can't just do one venue. I think you do one venue to see if you like it. If we like it. Dip your toy. If the audience like it. Dip your toy in. Take a little tester. A little warm-up gig. Then you could take it on tour.

7:06Ant McPartlin:There you go. You heard it here first. Would you not take it on tour? No, absolutely not. I'll zoom in. Okay, cool. No problem. You can go around the country.

7:12Declan Donnelly:Okay, I'll stay in all the fancy hotels.

7:14Ant McPartlin:I'll be on a big screen. And my budget will be twice as good because you're not there. Of course I'm coming on tour. I just did Price is Good Hotels. There's no way I'm missing out on that, fun and games. That's from Matt in Liverpool. Thank you, Matt. And see you on tour.

7:26Declan Donnelly:We had Chesney Hawks come and be a guest on the tour. On Singalong Live. And he sang, I am the one and only. And he did it very well. And we had people from the audience who had to get up and sing along live with him. Anyway, he's a lovely guy, Chesney, and we got on really well with him. And we said to Chesney, we're going to Las Vegas soon on a golf trip, us and the lads. And he went, oh, I'm only in LA, just up the road. And then another one of our friends went, might see you there then. And then that's the kind of thing you just say, isn't it? You just say that, don't you? Might see you there.

8:04Declan Donnelly:Might see you there in America. You never, ever think it's going to happen. You never think that you're going to bum me with that person. We didn't follow up with any phone calls. We didn't email. We didn't do anything. Then we get to Las Vegas on a golf trip to celebrate 10 years of golfing together as buddies.

8:22Ant McPartlin:With a load of other mates. With a load of other mates. About 15 of us. 15. 15, 16 of us. And then round the corner comes Chesney Hawks.

8:31Declan Donnelly:He drove all the way down from LA to see us. Yeah. He's such a nice man. He is a nice guy. He's such a lovely man. Can you believe it? Las Vegas. I can't tell you what happened. in Vegas because what goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas and Chesney would prefer it that way so well

8:48Ant McPartlin:and also nothing much happened we played golf don't tell him

8:51Declan Donnelly:don't tell him don't tell him don't tell him

8:53Ant McPartlin:it was a lot of fun good old Chesas

8:55Declan Donnelly:alright let's hope my next letter is a little bit longer than my first letter why are you laughing

9:01Ant McPartlin:is it not oh it could be the angry beaver that would be a good the angry beaver that would be a good wrestling name put a sound effect on it

9:09Declan Donnelly:get off me nuts in a Canadian accent. Hi, Ghan. Hi. Hey. Hey. Let me set the scene. Oh, I like this. Eurovision. Eurovision 2023. You love Eurovision, don't you, Dan? No, I do. Laureen, 2012's winner, is back and everyone is quite excited. Do you remember, Laureen? Her song is called Tattoo. It's good. But it's not as good as a winning 2012 song, Euphoria. there's only one person who's ever won Eurovision more than once Johnny Logan I remember that you know that

9:45Ant McPartlin:every loser wins

9:46Declan Donnelly:so I stated to me Eurovision watch party if Lorene wins with the song Tattoo I'll get a tattoo of the word tattoo oh that's good she won and here it is oh my

10:01Ant McPartlin:I mean I thought it would be smaller than that where show us

10:07Declan Donnelly:oh my god Is that on the thigh? That's across the top of the thigh. That is a huge tattooed thigh. If you can't see it, it's like big, bold italics,

10:19Ant McPartlin:and it's proper black. And it just says the word tattoo across the thigh. Wow, that is... You know, because you were getting this, you could just go, I'll just get a little one.

10:30Declan Donnelly:He says, I do like it, though. I've got no regrets, really. All the best, Mitch. That's very good, though. I'm glad you stuck to your word. a bit like me on this podcast. I said it, that I would get a tattoo to celebrate six months at the pod and you chose it. I got it tattooed and I'll be there for the rest of my life.

10:50Ant McPartlin:With my little D.

10:51Declan Donnelly:With Dex little D in the corner.

10:53Ant McPartlin:Just slightly ruining it. That is a really good tattoo though. To get a tattoo that just says tattoo is a really good tattoo. It's good. That is brilliant. Well done, frankly.

11:03Declan Donnelly:Any more bets like that, let us know. You said, if this happens, I'll do this. If she wins, I'll do this. and you had to follow through with it and do it. That's a very good theme. So get in touch, hanging out at beltabox.com. Love that. I'd like to hear more.

11:15Ant McPartlin:I've got another airmail, par avion. What? That's what it says on the stamp, doesn't it? It says email, airmail, par avion. Does it? I think so. It used to. I think it used to, didn't it? Didn't it? Hiya, boys. 13:24Declan Donnelly:look they're hairy all the way to the bottom do you know what I mean like normally with a hairy leg I've got hairy legs but am I as hairy as he is do you think it carries on and he has hairy feet. Mind you. Like a... He looks quite clean cut. Look, look, mine are quite hairy, right? But his look, bristly. Mine are soft. My hairs are soft to touch. I reckon he... His is almost like a werewolf's legs. It's like Brillapod, isn't it? They would hurt. Imagine him straddling you with them. They'd hurt. What?

13:56Ant McPartlin:I took a turn. I wasn't expecting.

13:58Declan Donnelly:Not sexually. Just like wrestling.

14:01Ant McPartlin:I was just play-fighting.

14:03Declan Donnelly:You know what he used to play for with us in Australia? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's still really hurting now, I know why.

14:10Ant McPartlin:Thank you, Joel. Thanks, Joel. Oh, I loved seeing them again. Do I have a look? I remember him showing them on the studio floor, though, and everybody was a bit like, that's a bit weird. Yeah.

14:22Declan Donnelly:This next bit is brought to you by Gemini, Google's AI app. So, question for you. Go on. Did you do a full body workout today? No, I did not. Do you want me to do a workout plan with Google Gemini? That's a great idea. There's all sorts of function on here where you can film yourself doing a workout and it'll tell you about your form. So you thought you were doing it the right way? Do you want to try it?

14:45Ant McPartlin:Yeah, let's do it.

14:46Declan Donnelly:Right. Come on, hover on the table then.

14:49Ant McPartlin:Great. Let's see how we form it.

14:51Declan Donnelly:So Gemini, can you be brutally honest about the form of these push-ups, please? Thank you. As you asked, here is my brutally honest opinion on the form of those push-ups. I noticed that you kept your body in a nice straight line from your head to your heels, which is an excellent foundation. You also positioned your hands well and lowered your chest nicely, showing good control. Overall, it was a solid display of form. Really? That's handy though, isn't it? If you're working out at home. Yeah. Just on your own. Just on your own. You've got no idea whether you're doing it right, you're doing it wrong.

15:27Declan Donnelly:using that.

15:29Ant McPartlin:Very helpful.

15:30Declan Donnelly:That's very helpful. That's really good. With Gemini, you can chat live with a truly helpful AI assistant. You can jump in, get some fitness tips, ask for more details, or even show what you're talking about by sharing your screen or your camera as well. It's there for a real chat, not just a quick question and done.

15:46Ant McPartlin:Absolutely. Download the Gemini app today to unlock the power of Google AI on your phone.

15:52Declan Donnelly:Check responses. Set a required. Compatibility and availability varies. 18 plus. Ah, this just looks like a meaty one. It's more like it. Well done. Hi, Ant and Dec. Hi. In an early episode of the pod, Dec mentions his past training in Irish dancing. I think he should revive these skills for the 12-month podcast anniversary. Yes! With an Irish dancing showcase at the Hangout. Just like Ant's tattoo will be on his body forever, I'm sure the memory of it will be burnt into his brain for the rest of time. Lots of loves you both. The pod is brilliant and brings back great student memories of hungover SMTV live days.

16:34Declan Donnelly:It's a bit like us. Respect, guys. Hannah.

16:37Ant McPartlin:Thanks, Hannah. What were you saying? Well, I did it. I did it. Before we did it on telly, we did it on takeaway. Remember we did End of the Shore show where we did some Irish dancing? Yes. So that's there for all to see.

16:49Declan Donnelly:But I'd had previous tattoos and I got another tattoo to celebrate the podcast.

16:53Ant McPartlin:So you want me to dance again? On your own. For your pleasure. Solo. in the spotlight. Okay.

17:00Declan Donnelly:Do you want lessons from Michael Flatley in the lead up to it? I could arrange that.

17:03Ant McPartlin:Can't you? Yeah. I don't need lessons from Michael Flatley. I can just get lessons from an Irish dancing teacher. Doesn't need to be the top guy. It'd be good, though. Be good. Let's look into it.

17:16Declan Donnelly:No, that's such a fob-off. Let's look into it. Isn't it? Oh, what a fob. He's fobbing us. I've known him for a long time, you guys. That's a fob-off. So when he says let's look into it, it means I'm never going to do that. Okay, if you don't want to do that, which clearly you don't, I've got another one here. Hi, I'm Deck in the Heckless Corner. Hey. You've been talking about ideas for how to celebrate your one-year anniversary on Hanging Out. Yes. Yes, we have. What about if Deck goes and gets a wax? Or better yet, he gets a wax live on the pod. I know that he struggles to grow hair.

17:55Declan Donnelly:It's true. You're so correct here. So I'm not sure what the situation below the chin is. But considering that I've got a tattoo, which is slightly painful, I think it should be tit for tat. You're going to wax your tits? Respect, guys. Megs from Australia. First of all, thank you for watching all the way down under in Australia. And secondly, that is an excellent idea.

18:20Ant McPartlin:Thank you for suggesting me getting waxed down under. Are you going to look into it? Let's look into it.

18:24Declan Donnelly:Shut up. Why would you do that?

18:26Ant McPartlin:hairy are you I'm not very hairy it wouldn't be a great waxing wouldn't be like Joel Domic getting his legs waxed oh can't imagine that imagine

18:33Declan Donnelly:Joel if you want to come in and get waxed live on the pod to celebrate our one year anniversary yes that would be good yeah yeah come on Joel yeah you do it Joel I'll look into it and you can do it why don't we do like a number of different things to celebrate being on air for a year so Joel could come in we'll wax his legs I'll do an Irish dance

18:54Ant McPartlin:while he gets waxed

18:55Declan Donnelly:with Irish Irish

18:57Ant McPartlin:I'll dance with Irish Jake well Joel guess what what is this becoming

19:06Declan Donnelly:do you know what it reminds me you know like little kids show off to their parents they're like shut up shut up put one of your Irish dancing in the corner guys look at me guys guys look look at me yes please then we'll just get a couple of other things I'll do something not get another tattoo I'll do something I don't know

19:25Ant McPartlin:in the other corner

19:26Declan Donnelly:play the piano or something it'd be like an art installation oh my god oh that is funny oh god keep your suggestions coming in on what we should do to celebrate a year of the pod that is very funny

19:42Ant McPartlin:hey guys hey this is from Christabel in Salisbury Christabel Christabel not Christaberg although if Christaberg is listening and wants to come and get watched

19:52Declan Donnelly:oh he could he could play he could think You can sing Lady of Red as you dance to it until Donald gets waxed to it.

20:01Ant McPartlin:Amazing. Anyway, this is Christabel, not Christabel. Oh, shame. Hi, guys.

20:05Declan Donnelly:Hey, Christabel.

20:06Ant McPartlin:Thanks to Dec, I can only ever read or hear YouTube in a Welsh accent. Oh, yeah. YouTube. YouTube. If you could have any other person's voice, living or dead, who would it be? What a strange question. What a strange question. Christabel.

20:22Declan Donnelly:I would like Vincent Price's voice. Oh, like Thriller. Yeah, you know the guy who speaks on Thriller.

20:28Ant McPartlin:Darkness falls across the land. The midnight hour is close at hand. It was Thriller. Glitches quarrel in sight of blood. To terrorize your neighborhood.

20:40Declan Donnelly:And whosoever shall be found. It always goes on a bit longer than you want. Doesn't it? A little bit longer than you want.

20:49Ant McPartlin:I don't know the rest of it. Are you? I'd like to have the voice of of the guy who does the movie trailers. Oh, yeah. Is it Red Pepper?

20:58Declan Donnelly:Yeah, it was a guy called Red Pepper. Yeah, he's very famous, wasn't he?

21:01Ant McPartlin:He's like, coming soon.

21:03Declan Donnelly:Coming soon to a theater near you. The blockbuster hit of the summer. What?

21:11Declan Donnelly:That's not it.

21:43Declan Donnelly:That was my Vincent Price. Was it? Well, I can't do it. I thought it was Kenneth Williams.

22:26Ant McPartlin:Very nice. Have you got another one?

22:28Declan Donnelly:No, I don't. Unless there's any on the iPad. Is that everything? Is that all it? Is that the episode? Oh, I was enjoying that. Well, I feel shortchanged. Don't know about you. Well, I'll ask you a question. Well, I know we haven't been here long, but what are you loving about Canada?

22:46Ant McPartlin:I would say I am loving the people. they're lovely the vistas the views the mountains are incredible yeah they are what what the vistas

22:59Declan Donnelly:no I'm laughing because Dex says the views are incredible but if you can see the view from his hotel room window it is literally a tree like that you can't see anything can you

23:09Ant McPartlin:we all got to our hotel rooms you know you get on the messages my room's amazing look at my view look at my view let's put up the video I took of my view to send to everybody, I was a little underwhelmed. I've been so excited to come to Canada. You're a bit too close to the trees, aren't you? I'm a bit too close to the trees. You can't see the wood for the trees, literally. I was so excited about coming to Canada and seeing all the views. I will share with you at the end of the pod the view from my hotel room window.

23:38Declan Donnelly:Oh God, it's very funny.

23:40Ant McPartlin:I'm right in amongst it.

23:41Declan Donnelly:Yeah, I agree. I think the people, how friendly they are, the food has been great, wherever staying's great. This area is just, beautiful the wildlife yes we've seen a bear as we said we saw chipmunks did we mention the chipmunks we haven't talked about the chipmunks the cutest there I've got a little video of a chipmunk and they're tiny aren't they they're like squirrels but cuter smaller than a squirrel yeah yeah yeah yeah and they're quite blightly like this very jerky but very cute so the wildlife and I'm hoping to see more wildlife different birds and stuff as we go on
