In short

This bonus episode of Hanging Out with Heckler’s Corner is a holiday-themed “postcards” show. The hosts joke about Carvana car-selling ads, Lululemon’s Breezely clothing, and their own holiday mishaps (including beard growth and multiple toilet incidents involving a wedding tiara/phone). They read postcards sent in by listeners from places they’re vacationing. Key guest/letter backgrounds: Emma (wedding-day tiara fell into a toilet; later friend borrowed it), Johnny Walker (first-time North East visitor considering Newcastle/Whitley Bay; asks about transport and must-dos), Annabelle & Kira (friends who got matching ankle tattoos: Ant and Dec; ask if Ant/Dec should get matching tattoos), Chloe (partner of 10 years marrying; asks for wisdom), Holly White (asks Ant’s favorite TV series; discusses Game of Thrones and recommends shows like Beef), and Marcus Tomlinson Wilde (sends a “No, the fort” photo).

Notable examples

Newcastle quayside/Sage, Metro travel, Pink Lane Bakery donuts, Riley’s Fish Shack; TV recs include Game of Thrones, The Young Ones, Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer, Beef, White Lotus, and Alice & Steve.

1:24Ant McPartlin:No. Well, it's got less itchy. so that's why I keep because before like when we talked last week it was getting really itchy and it was annoying me that just kind of stopped I got through the itchy stage

1:35Declan Donnelly:yeah it grows a little bit more doesn't it and then it just feels a little furrier it feels quite nice you can't stop touching it I've already seen a lot of bearded men just doing that

1:44Ant McPartlin:because they like the feel of it I catch myself with my tongue out quite a lot licking it you lick it yeah yeah whatever I'm thinking It's not a great look. Is it not a great look? No, it's not. Whenever I find myself, you know, in a contemplative mood, when I'm thinking of something, I was barbecuing some burgers the other day, and I just found myself just going like that.

2:10Declan Donnelly:It's like you really look forward to the burger. I can't wait to eat a burger.

2:17Ant McPartlin:Yeah, I think I might shave it off, though. I think I'm done. The current Mrs. D is not happy. She wants to read.

2:22Declan Donnelly:Yeah, my wife hates it when I've got a beard, or any kind of growth. Facial growth. That sounded weird. That sounded weird again. I've done it again. I've done it again.

3:42Ant McPartlin:You wouldn't like it. You wouldn't like it. You just have a warm week out of curiosity and then you wouldn't go back.

3:46Declan Donnelly:We'd get the views. Hanging out with the hecklers. Not a chance. Well, we might have changed a few things by the time you get back.

3:54Ant McPartlin:Well, you've changed the logo on the screen behind you there, hanging out with Heckler's corner.

3:58Declan Donnelly:The light's not on either. Yeah, we didn't turn your light on.

4:01Ant McPartlin:What? What? You're just a bunch of rebels. We make our own rules.

4:05Declan Donnelly:Yeah. And we took a load of flags out your map. Yeah.

4:09Ant McPartlin:The rules are the rules. Do not touch my map. I'm starting to keep a handle on our reach. Ah. You're not touching the word saying it.

4:20Declan Donnelly:Face front. With a fuzzy beard. With a beard. so you gave us some postcards right we got sent these by hecklers to our holiday destinations I've got a couple of postcards here and basically they're your letters that they have stuck on postcards because it's holiday themed and we're going to spend this episode this bonus episode reading them out I think that's a good idea I think it's a good idea One of your better ideas, Heglers. Thank you. Well done. All right, I've got one here. Hello, Gan. Hey. Hold on, just getting a cup of tea. Thank you, darling. Come on. Do you want to be in the podcast?

5:06Declan Donnelly:Do you want to be in the podcast? She said no. She said no. Bye. Bye. Ask her how the podcast smells. Can you smell the podcast? She said yes. Oh, dear. She's gone. Oh, dear. And it smells like...

5:32Declan Donnelly:Where was I? Hello, gang. Hey. Just listen. What is the picture of? Oh, it's a big wheel. Can you see that? Nice. Just listen to Ant talking about his sunglasses falling into the urinal. And I thought I'd share a similar story from my wedding day. I went to the loo and when I stood up I tried to pick up the skirt of me dress so it wasn't on the floor and my tiara fell down the toilet oh no I had had several bubbly drinks by then so I just rinsed it off and wore it for the rest of the evening a few months later a friend wore it as her something borrows but I didn't tell her it had been down the loo respect guys Emma I love that Emma

6:20Ant McPartlin:the big question is what state was the toilet in like was it post flush pre flush was it still a little bit of bubbly wee in there yeah I don't have any I guess I guess because she rinsed it it was pre flush well pre flush pre flush do we think

6:40Declan Donnelly:I think I think

6:41Ant McPartlin:I think there's quite smelly down there I don't know

6:45Declan Donnelly:I don't know that's all it was number one

6:46Ant McPartlin:yeah it was definitely wee wee tiara yeah

6:50Declan Donnelly:that's okay we're with tiara hello Emma we're with tiara that's not that's okay that's not big deal

7:00Ant McPartlin:yeah as long as it's number one and you can rinse it off

7:03Declan Donnelly:yeah exactly but that's good to add to the list though tiara down the toilet tiara down the toilet jacket for me tiara didn't you see something falling down the toilet phone something phone phones are falling down the toilet There was something of mine recently fell down the toilet.

7:24Declan Donnelly:What? What are you laughing at? Just like, oh, I'm sure I dropped something down the toilet. I'm sure I did. Anyway, it'll come to me. But it's happened again. It has happened again since we spoke last. And I thought, I must mention this on podcast. And then the weeks went by and I never mentioned it. And I've forgotten. Oh, well, that's been 50 for you.

7:51Ant McPartlin:I've got one here from Johnny Walker. Johnny Walker? The guy who makes the whiskey, I think. Oh, yeah. Well done, Johnny. He sent me a beautiful postcard with a swan on it. A swan and a bridge. Where is that? Do we have any? No. Johnny says, I have a week to fill in the six weeks holidays with the wife and the kids and haven't never visited the Northeast. I'm considering a trip to Newcastle. Do it! And the surrounding areas. Do it! Having never visited, I thought who better for travel advice than you two? Although if Mr Mulhern could film a travel show in the next couple of weeks, that would also be unofficial.

8:30Ant McPartlin:Should I aim for Newcastle itself or the surrounding areas? Is Whitley Bay a good shout? Is the metro an easy way to get round? Yes. Any help or travel advice would be greatly appreciated. That's from Johnny Walker.

8:43Declan Donnelly:Johnny, the North East is a wonderful place to visit. Newcastle, Northumberland. I used to caravan in Amble up in Northumberland, which is beautiful. You've got loads of lovely places. So Newcastle itself is great to spend time in. It's a great nightlife, friendly people. You've got down by the quayside, which is great, where the time bridge is and the blinking eye and the music venue, the sage. And if you go out of Newcastle, you've got lovely places like Annick Gardens if you're into that kind of thing that's very picturesque you can go up to Worgworth Castle which is beautiful sea houses are beautiful yeah you can't go wrong having a holiday up there in the northeast

9:31Ant McPartlin:the great thing about Newcastle as well is that you get the best of all worlds you get a city break being in the city you can get out to Northumberland into the countryside which is absolutely beautiful and then the beaches are only 20 minutes from the city. So you can go to Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, and then go up the coast to sea houses and colour coats and you can buy the sea. There's some beautiful beaches up there. So you've got the best of all worlds, especially if you go in the summer and you get the weather as well. You're absolutely onto a winner. So I would stay in the city. Then Metro is a brilliant way to get around, get you everywhere and just have the best time.

10:11Ant McPartlin:it is fantastic and the people are really friendly they'll give you a very warm welcome you're going to absolutely love it do it

10:20Declan Donnelly:there's a chain called Pink Lane Bakery right you ever been to Pink Lane Bakery? no but I've heard about it oh my god their donuts and that are insanely good I would recommend that

10:33Ant McPartlin:there's some really new restaurants and pop-ups and stuff yeah there is if you go on social media if you have a look on Instagram and TikTok top if you put in like eat in in newcastle some brilliant pop-up places there's some fantastic food so it's definitely definitely worth a visit you will and dead easy to get there we've got an airport we've got a train station what's not to love there's a lovely little beach in time out called king edwards bay yeah down there there's a fantastic restaurant called riley's fish shack oh that is great riley's fish shack get fish and chips sit on the beach and eat oh the food is And it's a little bit posh.

11:10Declan Donnelly:It's a bit posh. Hecklers, you'd love it. You would love it. It's got that little bit of poshness to it. You know what I mean? Not posh. It's a little, it's a bit more modern. A bit chic. Upmarket. Chic. All these words I wouldn't put with it. Upmarket. Cool. Yeah, it's a bit cooler. Yeah, it's a cool little fish shack. It's lovely. It's brilliant.

11:31Ant McPartlin:There are loads of good places to eat down there. Down in Tymark, Whitley Bay, North Shields. Brilliant.

11:36Declan Donnelly:You're going to love it. I wonder if you've sold that very well. sold that very well. We need a little bit of wonga from the Norquist tourist board. Tour guides. Tour guides. Yeah, we should do walking tours. Should we do walking tours? We'll have a little umbrella, a red umbrella at the front. Follow me. Pink limber, do that way.

11:57Declan Donnelly:Right, I've got one here. My postcard is a cathedral, nondescript. Just a painting. I don't think it's anywhere. in particular. It will be somewhere. Would you think so? Yeah. Mm. No? Disagree. And Dec and Heckler's Corner. Hey! Me and my best friend have always been big fans of yous and our whole lives, everyone has said, we're like yous, getting us mixed up. Where's the other one when we're not together? So when we were on our girls' holiday in Zanty, oh, Zanty girls' holiday, I know what happened there. We got tattoos! What goes on in Zandi? Stays in Zandi. They got tattoos that we felt summed up of friendship.

12:45Declan Donnelly:Ah, nice. Let's have a look. Here are the scent. No way!

12:51Ant McPartlin:They got an ant tattoo and a deck tattoo. That is so funny. That is so funny. Oh my God.

13:00Declan Donnelly:Oh my God. That is brilliant.

13:05Ant McPartlin:Oh my goodness. on their ankles. If you're just listening, one of them has an ant tattoo and on the other ankle, the other person has got a deck tattoo. It's very good. Is that Ariel? That's brilliant. Times New Roman? Not Times New Roman, is it? Ariel?

13:21Declan Donnelly:Helvetica. Helvetica.

13:23Ant McPartlin:I think I'm a Helvetica. Comic Sans is not Comic Sans. It's very nice. That's weird. Who's that from?

13:30Declan Donnelly:That's it forever. That's it. Let me finish then. So they say, personally, we would rate them eight bananas. Our parents don't think the same, unfortunately. While you guys are on your lads holiday this summer, Ant, you reckon you might convince Dec to get a matching tattoo? Respect, guys. Love the pod. That is from Annabelle, who is the ant in this duo, and Kira, who is the Dec in this duo. So Kira's got the Dec tattoo and Annabelle has got the ant tattoo. So firstly, before we answer your question, Can I just say, that is sensational. That's gone above and beyond for your friendship. We are very honoured.

14:12Declan Donnelly:I'm flattered. Flattered, honoured. Respect guys to you. Respect guys.

14:21Ant McPartlin:So in return, I think you will have to get an Annabelle tattoo on your uncle, Ant. And I have to get Kira on my uncle. Let's do it.

14:30Declan Donnelly:Let's do it. Let's do it. Ah, you see, now your eyes have gone wide.

14:37Ant McPartlin:Yeah, I don't think I'll get away with Akira on my right ankle. I'm thinking Mr. Donnelly would have something to say about that.

14:47Declan Donnelly:Well, if we give them context, if we give our wives context, that's the reason why we've got Willis names. Yeah, I'm sure that'll be fine. I'm sure that'll be fine. It's for the podcast. Don't question it.

14:57Ant McPartlin:Yeah, just like the beard, it's for the podcast.

14:59Declan Donnelly:Yeah, exactly. I could just write I could get a marker pen and just write on your ankle and you could write on mine for next week's show we could do that we could do that yeah let's do that yeah as a marker for respect guys we will write those names on our ankles and they'll stay there for two or three days because it'll take a while it'll take a while for the sharpie to wear off for the sharpie to wear off depends how much swimming you've done in the pool on holiday yeah so yeah thanks guys let's do that that is very good I've actually got the picture here myself I'm going to just I'm going to keep that that's brilliant that's really good I'm just going to keep that I'll put it over there and not tell anybody in my family what this is and I'm sure I get a lot of questions okay

15:48Ant McPartlin:we'll we'll do that in the next day or so we'll write the names on our ankles we'll take a photo of our ankles next to each other and we'll put it at the end of this episode yeah yeah Yeah, let's do that. I've got one here from Chloe. She says, Hi, Aunt Dec and Heckler's Corner. Hey. Hi. She's gone somewhere cold. Ooh.

16:10Declan Donnelly:We've got a winter scene. Yeah, where have you found with that amount of snow?

16:13Ant McPartlin:A winter scene on the postcard. She says, I love the pod and I've watched you guys for years and love you both. That's very nice of you. Love you too. My partner of 10 years are getting married this month and would love a shout out. Shout out, Chloe and her... Shout out. Chloe and her fiancé, who she hasn't named. Do you have any words of wisdom for us as we start the next chapter of our lives? Respect, guys. Love, Chloe. Well, Chloe. Well, Chloe, what do we say?

16:43Declan Donnelly:It's the best. It's the best. You're going to love it.

16:48Ant McPartlin:You're just about to enter a very special time in your life.

16:52Declan Donnelly:Yeah.

16:53Ant McPartlin:Where you become a team with you and your husband who has not been named in your letter. Anonymous man. With this anonymous man, if he does indeed exist. No, it's a very, very special time. And especially these early days of being married, you enter the honeymoon period and you have a very lovely time getting to know each other, even deeper, a deeper relationship, deeper understanding, a deeper love, now that you are joined in Holy Matter of Money. and my first bit of advice would be to enjoy that enjoy that little honeymoon lovely cloud of love that you're in my second word of advice would be everything from now on is a compromise everything is a compromise you have to do it as a team therefore um that means you're never fully in the right or in the wrong.

17:54Ant McPartlin:You have to compromise and do things for the pair of you. So, yeah, it's not always your way is the best way anymore. You have to listen to the opinions and thoughts of your husband. Give him a say. Give him a fair trial.

18:14Ant McPartlin:Give him a good go. No, you've got a brilliant period coming up. but yeah you are a team now but it's a lovely lovely thing to have that

18:25Declan Donnelly:it's brilliant isn't it I love being married we're very lucky to have wonderful wives and who support us in what we do who are have got our back who we love obviously very much and you're right being a team and doing it together is it means so much more It's like even experiences. If you're experiencing something wonderful, whether it's a gig or a sunset or a, I know these all sound like cliches, but it's true. You know, you want to experience those great things with your partner because with your wife or your husband, because it just feels more meaningful and you get more from it doing it together as a couple than you do on your own.

19:14Declan Donnelly:so um yeah just enjoy just have have fun enjoy it and yeah it'll it'll get it'll get pretty serious over time so have a laugh now guys well yeah even but even when it does get serious like just

19:30Ant McPartlin:remember like these are the good times you know we're all gonna get older and we're all gonna have trials and tribulations ahead but right now where you are just married freshly married in a new partnership. These are the good times. So enjoy them.

19:50Declan Donnelly:Me next. I have got, oh, I've got a snowy scene as well. There you go. Ooh. Is that the Northern Lights in the background? I think it is. Hi, Ant Deck and Heckler's Corner. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. I like it. I'm so happy. But Ant recommended Widows Bay on the pod recently as it has quickly become one of my favourite shows ever! Exclamation mark. What a TV gem. As Ant is clearly a man with great taste in TV series, thank you very much. May I ask what his favourite TV series of all time is? Respect the guys, love. Holly White. First of all, thank you Holly. What a great postcard to read. it was a very good series and favorite TV series of all time wow that's hard that's really hard I've got a few classics and I think I mentioned before Sopranos being one Lost even though it got lost a bit near the end I still love though I still remember loving those early episodes and couldn't wait to watch the next one Game of Thrones though is probably the one where I immersed myself in that whole series and just lived it.

21:19Declan Donnelly:I was shocked by it. I cried. It done everything that a really good TV series should do. It surprised you. It delighted you. It took you back away at times. There was moments where it was uncomfortable to watch because one of your favorite characters has died. but it was just it had a sense of scale it was epic I loved Game of Thrones loved it loved it loved it but even little things like comedy series that we talked about the other day like doing the young ones when we were growing up like that was just so important to our age group watching the young ones because it was something we talked about at school like did you get the chance to stay up and watch it and some of us did some of us didn't and if you didn't you kind of lied and said you did to try and fit in.

22:11Declan Donnelly:Because it was that important, the young ones. And you remember really good comedy. I remember watching Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer on Channel 4. That was a really important comedy series. They were huge at the time. They were like rock stars. So funny, so different to anything else that was on the telly at the time. And we'd come into work. We were doing Better Growth, weren't we? When Vic and Bob were at the height of their success. And people would quote their lines to each other in the makeup chair and on set all the time. No, you wouldn't let it lie. You wouldn't let it lie, would you? No, you wouldn't let it lie.

22:53Declan Donnelly:Do you have any idea what we're told about, Heckler? No. No? But yeah, you've got that. You've got great drama, great comedy. I couldn't pick just one. I couldn't. Could you?

23:09Ant McPartlin:No, no. I think you're right. Your voice went a bit high then. No, no. I got a bit emotional. Not again. But good telly. I might write a letter to television of the past.

23:26Ant McPartlin:I would say Game of Thrones. The one that it was, when I got into it, I couldn't wait to watch another episode. You know, being at work that day and going, I can't wait to get home tonight and watching another episode of Game of Thrones. That was that one. But yeah, you're right. Loads of stuff growing up. Used to watch The Young Ones over and over again, recorded it on my VHS player. Would watch The Young Ones over and over again. Yeah, but if I had to pick one, I'd say Game of Thrones was the one that I've never, I don't think I've gotten into a series since as much as I did with that one. Oh, really?

24:07Ant McPartlin:don't think so did you like the crown yeah I loved the crown I loved the crown crown was good loved it really good who was your favourite queen

24:17Declan Donnelly:um Claire Foy original yeah yeah I just liked everything about that era you know I just liked all the costumes and all the props and just how elegant everybody was yeah dashing and elegant they all were um yeah and she was amazing yeah Like her accent as the queen was fantastic. I think because she was... And such a lovely girl when we met her. Yeah, she was great.

24:42Ant McPartlin:I think because she was the first one as well. Like, you know, she set the bar. Yeah. Her and Matt Smith as Prince Philip.

24:50Declan Donnelly:Brilliant. Loved it. Loved the crown. What are you watching now? I'm watching, let me tell you first. Go on. Even though I asked you the question. Yeah, go on. Talk over me. I'm watching season two of Beef on Netflix. Have you seen it? No, I haven't.

25:07Ant McPartlin:So do we need to watch season one? You don't need to watch season one.

25:10Declan Donnelly:So season one, it's an A24 series, and it's about this, season one is set in California, and this man and this woman get into kind of a road bridge incident, and they're really angry at each other, and loads of weird stuff happens throughout the whole series, and it ends weirdly in a kind of A24 way, but really good really rewarding and a funny watch and it's quite intense at times but season two is completely different like the the um Carrie Mulligan is the female one of the female leads in it um who's really good and they her husband in the show runs this country club and so it's husband and wife and they're getting blackmailed by two of their employees and it's just it's a bit White Law to see White Law is another one actually put White Lotus on the list

26:06Ant McPartlin:Set in a Country Club sounds like it's very White Lotus-y yeah but it's really good

26:12Declan Donnelly:that's another one I can't wait to kind of watch another one tonight so Beef if you haven't seen Beef season one or season two get on it it's very good we're watching yourself back to my original question

26:26Ant McPartlin:we're watching Alice and Steve on Disney Plus oh yeah

26:29Declan Donnelly:is it good?

26:30Ant McPartlin:it is good is it? so is Nicola Walker who is in Unforgotten and loads of other brilliant dramas. And Jermaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords. I love Flight of the Conchords.

26:42Declan Donnelly:That's another one of my favorites ever.

26:44Ant McPartlin:That's another one. And they play two characters who used to go out with each other and they are now in their early 50s. She has married, but they're still friends. They're still really good friends, even though they used to go out together. And he is single. He's a celebrity hairstylist. She is married. and they meet up at a funeral of a friend. And she says, I can't believe you're still single. How are you still single? You're so lovely, and you've got a good job. She says, I'm going to make it my mission to find you somebody, a partner. Anything.
