0:59Ant McPartlin:Coming up on today's show, we remember our hero, Kevin Keegan. You know, they say you shouldn't ever meet your heroes, but he was absolutely the exception.

1:08Declan Donnelly:Death's been poorly, and I got secretly popped on the beach. So his belly kind of protrudes out, but he stood next to me, so it looks like my belly. We have a big falling out of glasses. Nobody knows what you mean. We put a rumour about us to bed Because we're from Newcastle, do we wear coats? Yes, of course we wear bloody coats And our golf career has peaked

1:31Ant McPartlin:As we get advice From the Open champion

1:36Declan Donnelly:I wasn't listening to anything He said I was too shocked And we're here where you've been on holiday As our foreign correspondents Enjoy the show!

1:57Ant McPartlin:Hello, everybody. Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Hanging Out with Him and Me, where we're on holiday. It's Hanging Out on Holiday. Hanging Out on Holiday. We're having a lovely time away, but it's lovely to be back with you in your ears and in your eyes. Oh, I can't stay. Hang on a minute. Stop staying now. I can't stay. I need to put my glasses on. There we go. I can see you now. There it goes. they seem to be the right size for your face. Yeah. Unlike these. It's quite a knack, that. I like these. It's quite a... Yeah. Oh, don't hold any balloons now. Oh, up he goes.

2:35Declan Donnelly:I've got a different pair. I'll try them on in a minute. Later on, I'll be able to read something. Great. How are you?

2:40Ant McPartlin:I'm good. I'm not bad. Now, just after we recorded last week, we got the very, very sad news that the legend Kevin Keegan had passed away. So we didn't get to talk about it on last week's pod. But I thought we could take a minute at the beginning of this one just to kind of pay tribute to him, our own little tribute, and what he meant to us and what he kind of did for our part of the world and how much he meant to the people of Newcastle and the North East. Kevin Keegan was the reason that I really got into football. he was the the David Beckham of his day he was the Lionel Messi the Cristiano Ronaldo of the 70s and 80s he was he won two Ballon Doors didn't he yeah Ballon Doors he was the European footballer of the year a couple of times and inexplicably he signed for Newcastle United in 1982 which is just when my eldest brother had started taking me to football so him signing for Newcastle was huge news.

3:49Ant McPartlin:And that started my kind of rollercoaster love affair with Newcastle United and football. And he was genuinely, genuinely my hero as a kid, my childhood hero. And when we got the news through last week, I was absolutely devastated. I'm not ashamed to say I shed a tear when I heard the news. He just meant so much to the people of the Northeast, what he gave to us in his energy and enthusiasm and the hope that he gave us for our football team, which we hadn't had in huge amounts up until Kevin got involved with the club. But he just meant so much beyond football to the whole region. He was just such a special man.

4:34Ant McPartlin:And we were very lucky enough to meet him on a couple of occasions. The first one I met him when I was, I think, six or seven, and I won a competition to play football with Kevin Keegan. Played loads of fun games and all of that. And then Kevin Keegan comes along at the end of it and you get to kick a ball around with him. And then we all went in for sandwiches and crisps afterwards. And then every single one of us had a photograph with Kevin and he sat with each of us and put his arms around us. and as a six-year-old boy, that was just the best, meeting your hero. You know, they say you shouldn't ever meet your heroes, but he was absolutely the exception.

5:17So, yeah, I shed a tear last week

5:23Ant McPartlin:and shed another one this morning. But, yeah, RIP Kev, King Kev, Special K. What a guy.

5:32Declan Donnelly:Well said, well said. It's true. You know, words like legends and saviours get bandied around, but he did, he saved our club when he came back as manager. He transformed our club, saved it. He's a true legend of the game, and a true legend to Newcastle United supporters, and he will be missed. Love you, Kev.

5:56Ant McPartlin:We both met him, didn't we, when we went and did the kit launch on the pitch at Newcastle. For the entertainer's trip, the old Adidas Grandad.

6:05Declan Donnelly:the granddad collar and you know it's got the um newcastle brown ale thing in the middle the logo in the middle classic classic strip we were doing a photo shoot on the on the pitch i remember it

6:16Ant McPartlin:was just me and aunt and the for the local press and stuff and um kevin was around doing uh all of his kind of media duties and he saw us on the pitch doing a picture on us on our own and he was like i'm gonna get on in on this so he got right in the middle of us got us both around the neck it's like come on lads have one with me he was just the loveliest man he was this one

6:38Declan Donnelly:this is the picture here have you got it there I've got it I've got it here people keep sending it to me that's it there look at that it's um I'm gonna get that framed yeah I need to find that shot and get that framed that's be good in the frame ah King Kev legend

6:59so

7:00Declan Donnelly:good week for me play a bit of golf had a bit of fun. I saw that. I've been, tell you what, guys, I've been popped on the beach. What? Yes. I went to the beach the other day, which I invited you to, didn't I? You did? You're a bit under the weather. We'll talk about that in the other day. We'll come to that. Went down there, had all my chairs, had my little trolley thing that I pulled Wilder along in with all of the beach stuff, the volleyball and the blankets and the waters and the crisps, all of that stuff that you've got to take down the beach. I've got to have the crisps. Just in case. And I never check any news when I'm away.

7:39Declan Donnelly:And someone sent it through this morning and just goes, oh, I see you on the beach. It's like, oh, God, shirtless shots on the beach. To be fair, the reason I mention it is because if I was in my 20s or 30s, that would have freaked me out. It would have freaked me out the fact that we were getting papped, that I was just in swim shorts, that it was a big deal. And now I'm like, I'm 50. I don't care. You know, it's okay. I look all right. You know, I'm not ashamed to say it. You know, I'm not embarrassed at all. But also you're like, it is what it is. Do you know what I mean? It was one of those things where I think if you stress about it too much, it can really ruin your holding.

8:23Declan Donnelly:Yeah, you can. And it can really bother you. And you can really find out, oh, my God, how did they know? and who they spoke to and you can start second-guessing everything. Do you know what? It doesn't matter. I was on the beach. I had fun. I didn't realize. Yeah, funnily enough, Depp wasn't there. You did invite him and I didn't come. Funny that, isn't it? But yeah, I think it just goes to show that we've been doing this for so long that you just get to a point where, and it's not like, I don't care less. It's just, it doesn't bother me. It's all right. It's just part of the job, you know? And we had fun and there you go.

8:57Declan Donnelly:It's so rare, though. Really rare. And I would never even notice it if a friend hadn't sent it through. But there's a shot of me standing in profile, right? And one of our friends, and I will name him, Andy Collins, is stood right next to me. And he's a larger gentleman than me. So his belly kind of protrudes out. But he stood next to me, so it looks like my belly. And at first I'm like, oh, my God, I look awful. And then I'm like, actually, that's not my belly. and I feel like just taking that shot and putting it on my social and going not my belly guys but it's probably best that don't do that yeah that could be a game

9:37Ant McPartlin:that could be a game belly no belly whose belly is this belly no belly belly no belly

9:42Declan Donnelly:oh that is they get your feet in shot not that I've seen Fiona but I'm sure I'm sure there would have been a separate photographer just for the feet from wiki feet and yourself I haven't seen much of you this week.

9:56Ant McPartlin:No, we haven't seen a lot of each other, have we? Because I haven't been well this week. I've been in bed ill. I spent two days in bed, not very well. I woke up at four o 'clock in the morning, the other morning with a killer sore throat. And then that developed into a very bad headache. And then I started getting a temperature. So Ali was there, the current Mrs. Donnelly was there with the kids at the moment, I was sticking it in my ear, going, yeah, you are very hot. So yeah, I had a temperature of 39 and ended up in the doctors. The doctor said, it's probably COVID, but we don't test for that anymore.

10:35Ant McPartlin:So yeah, I had two days ill in bed. I couldn't move one of the days. I tried to get up, couldn't move, went back to bed. But the worst part of being ill was I was ill on Jack's fourth birthday and so I didn't really get to spend any time with him and I tried to go out for dinner that night with him um and I got to the restaurant and Ali said you have to go home you look awful so I drove home and went to bed and I missed his birthday dinner and his birthday cake

11:07Declan Donnelly:did you feel awful or was it just aesthetically she just thought you look she didn't want to look at me in case you get popped you should go home you look horrendous put your shirt on

11:17Ant McPartlin:and go home. Since I've been ill, I have developed a bit of an upset stomach as well. Oh. So I managed to get out last night for dinner and somebody ordered the crunchy tuna and it looked delicious and I couldn't resist it. And I put a bit in my mouth and the current Mrs. D looked over at me and she went, are you sure?

11:40Ant McPartlin:And I was wearing white trousers. Oh no.

11:43Declan Donnelly:That was a very brave move. Tell you what though, after a few days of having an upset stomach and being ill, you want to get yourself popped up on the beach. You look thin as anything. Actually, I'll give him a... Just don't stand next to our mate.

11:55Ant McPartlin:I'll just give him a text. I've still got his number from the other day. Yeah, I bet you have.

12:00Declan Donnelly:Do you think these remote recordings of the podcast are going down well? I've got no way of knowing. Yeah. As you know, I don't check the comments.

12:08Ant McPartlin:Never reads the comments. Never reads the comments. Famously never reads the comments. Go on. I'm not sure if I'm honest with you because I'm a meholas and I haven't been reading the comments either. So I don't know, is anybody actually enjoying these episodes? Ah, hold on.

12:22Declan Donnelly:Jemima has just shared something on the screen. We've got some comments here. Joey Smith says, aunt's teeth look a lot wider. It's because I've brought a tan. That's what that is. When you get a tan,

12:32Ant McPartlin:your teeth look wider. Susan says, would love to meet the hecklers. You've just put that in. You've scoured the comments. Yeah, you have. Just to put that in.

12:43Declan Donnelly:and then has that got 60 likes that comment so 60 people would like to meet you we should do a meet and greet that's alright we can charge some money we can do a meet and greet we can get some coin back pay for these remote recordings

12:56Ant McPartlin:well Susan the hecklers will be on tour this autumn up and down the country playing back rooms of pubs

13:05Declan Donnelly:Caroline says Dec has finally got rid of that thing on his beautiful face was that my beard was that my beard

13:11Ant McPartlin:must be must be I was quite proud of that beard. I'm not going to grow back again, though. No, you're not, are you? No. Laura said, I love unfiltered ant. Never go back on telly. Stay on the pod. Whoa, Laura. Whoa, Laura. Come on, you're jets. What do you mean never go back on the telly?

Read the full transcript

13:35Declan Donnelly:I'm the same person on the pod as I am on the telly.

13:37Ant McPartlin:No, you're not. Maybe a bit looser, I would say. You're so sanitised on TV, you.

13:44Declan Donnelly:That's what it is, yeah. I can't read that name. Some tied to Domino, one idiot. It says, BTS 3, welcome deck to the BTS army. Ha ha. Oh, yes.

13:56Ant McPartlin:Oh, yeah. Because I was a big fan of them at the World Cup final. Yeah, you were. They're laughing at you here, aunt, because... I'm just going to read the heart. That's a heart. What's a heart? The Arrow 3. That's a heart? Yeah, it's a sideways heart. Have you never seen that before?

14:14Declan Donnelly:No, and do you know what? I pride myself on being down with kind of text speak. Tech savvy. Yeah, because my kids use all those kind of like LMK and BRB, all that kind of stuff, all the time in text messages. And it always takes me a while to work it out, but I've never seen it. I didn't know that was a heart. Yeah. You learn something new every day.

14:33Ant McPartlin:You do. There you are. You do. Thanks. Thanks, guys. Jamie Hogan says, Heckless Corner is amazing. That's got 14 likes. Why is this comment in there? This has got nothing to do with the pod on holiday.

14:44Declan Donnelly:I'm going to put my big glasses back on. Brick Rob says there definitely needs to be a hanging out with a heckless episode. Shut up! Put those two Jody gas bags in the corner where they deserve to be.

14:55Ant McPartlin:Guys, you need to think of some better pseudonyms. These are very bad fake names you've been creating, fake accounts. Amelia says I'd give anything to work in Heckler's Corner. What a great group of people they are. They clearly work so hard. Respect guys. Are they the best comments you could find about the pod on holiday? Yeah, it's mainly just about us.

15:16Declan Donnelly:Nothing about like our golf chat. We wanted comments about our drivers and shafts and all that. None of that? All about you? Well, there have been some golf chat. And what I thought is for this week's mini golf section, I'd keep it contained to that part. So when we sound the mini golf, you will each be sent to the comments so you can work your way through them.

15:41Ant McPartlin:Now, we forgot to do this last week, which was holiday bingo. Yes, we did. We started off a couple of weeks ago, but we forgot to do it last week. So we've had loads of your holiday bingo situations sent in to us. Should we go through a few? We can. I can go first, though.

15:56Declan Donnelly:Go on, then. I saw, remember we talked about stray cats? Yes. I've seen three stray cats.

16:01Ant McPartlin:Three?

16:02Declan Donnelly:But all together, it was like a mum and two little kittens.

16:06Ant McPartlin:Oh.

16:07Declan Donnelly:Like playing around this tree. So add that to the bingo card. Yeah.

16:11Ant McPartlin:It's good. Okay. First one, Sean from Sligo says, you have to add, meeting someone from your hometown whilst abroad. That's a very good one, Sean. He says, I was in Sicily on a walking tour and met a couple from Sligo, my town. Turns out the wife was in my oldest brother's class at primary school. No way. What a small world.

16:33Declan Donnelly:That is a small world. Well done. Good one. Add it to the bingo card. Jamie from Northampton says, you've got to put that little bill sign we all do with our hands at a restaurant on holiday because we haven't learned how to ask the language. Yeah, asking the language. Can I, yeah, can I have the, yeah. The little writing with the pen. Yeah. The air pen.

16:52Ant McPartlin:Yeah. That one. Yeah, absolutely.

16:55Declan Donnelly:Add that to the bingo card.

16:56Ant McPartlin:Olivia from Norwich says, could we put having an argument in the airport on the bingo card? I love my husband dearly, but we do always have a small bicker every time we're going anywhere. We just have very different concepts of time.

17:12Declan Donnelly:Interesting. Priyanka from South London says, what about when seeing someone from your plane everywhere you go on holiday? Yes, that's such a good one. That's such a good one. It's someone that you've seen on the flight over there who aren't staying in your hotel, but you just happen to see them. restaurants, nights out, clubs, beaches. Very good. Yeah.

17:33Ant McPartlin:Very good. Nicola from Liverpool says, we have to add, continually commenting that the heater feels different when you're abroad. Yeah. Agreed. That's true. Agreed.

17:45Declan Donnelly:Paul from Dumfries says, reserve a sunbed with a towel. Then more about people reserving sunbeds with their towels. Very true, Paul. Very true. I wouldn't do it though. I can't stand it. I can't. It winds me up.

17:57Ant McPartlin:It winds me up. I can't bear it. also I can't be bothered so I get really angry when I go out the pool there's nowhere to go and everybody's away at lunch or something but loads of towels everywhere and books and like kids life vests

18:09Declan Donnelly:anything they've got to reserve those some loungers

18:12Ant McPartlin:Liam from Solihull says you've got to add packing your running trainers or exercise gear and never using any of it couldn't agree more packing with the best of intentions is that isn't it

18:26Declan Donnelly:exactly well done Liam I packed it Do you know what I've packed? I mean, I have been doing a bit of like wasted stuff out here. But do you know what I've packed? I saw when my spandum band was lifted and I was free to buy stuff from when I was easily influenced via Instagram. Yeah. I don't know. That works. A skipping rope. A boxer weighted skipping rope. That's what I need. I need to skip more. Because when I do boxing in Australia, they skip. And I'm terrible at it. I'm not a good skipper, right? But this is a weighted skipping rope. so it helps build up your shoulders. It's still in the drawback there.

19:05Declan Donnelly:I'm going to get it out. I'm going to get it out. Well done, though. Very good shout. And finally, Marie from Cornwall says, I always overestimate how many books I'll read abroad and end up logging four books in my bag only to pick up a magazine in the airport and only read that. Very good. Oh, they're so good.

19:22Ant McPartlin:They're brilliant. They're so good. Keep them coming in. anything to add to the holiday bingo card things that happen when you're in holiday keep them coming into us hanging out at beltabox.com

19:34Declan Donnelly:Remember these glasses from last week's episode? Yes I do. I found another pair well I found two more pairs so I'd like to get your opinion on the said glasses so these are

19:45Ant McPartlin:the up glasses so for those of you just listening these are big black framed and not even Eric Morecambe they're bigger than that oh god they're not I'd like a pair of Eric Morgan ones, but they've got like a kind of, what do you call it, Lola? Cat, feline shape.

20:02Declan Donnelly:They've got a feline shape. Yeah. So those are the originals. In fact, I found these ones. A red pair. Oh, very Christopher Biggins. Yeah, it's very, it's Timmy Mallet, isn't it? Yeah, Mark Curry on Blue Peter. Mark Curry, Biggins, Timmy Mallet, but a bit red. A bit redder than I thought. They're bordering on zany. Nobody wants zany glasses. that I won't be wearing them. They're nice though. They're nice. You pull them off. Finally, we have these. Yes. They're better. They're nice. Thank God you said that because these are my actual glasses. Oh, yeah. They suit you. My wife had packed them. She had packed them.

20:41Declan Donnelly:So I'm very thankful I've got my proper glasses now. Although I do still enjoy the feline version. And I think I'll wear these for the... I'll wear these for reading and I'll wear these for the podcast. Perfect.

20:55Ant McPartlin:I found my glasses that I bought on holiday last year. Oh, yeah. Remember those ones? I do. Got them here. Check this out. These are great holiday glasses, and I'll tell you for why. So you put them on like this, and there you see us and you read us. But if you're out and about and it gets a bit sunny and you're like, I want to be able to see and read, but I can't do it in the sunshine, you just snap them on. aren't they good little magnetic sunglasses do it again

21:30Declan Donnelly:and add like a really cool sexy bit of music okay hold on go

21:37yeah perfect music guys

21:40Ant McPartlin:yeah very good yeah very good very sexy it's good there it is again yeah well done well while we're on the topic of glasses uh-huh you know we've been playing the know the game yes for a few weeks which we love well someone someone wrote in with a version that they like to play which is called glasses or no glasses and i wondered if you'd like to play glasses or no glasses we love a game on holiday let's play glasses on all that okay number one pedro pascal glasses or no glasses glasses no glasses which means he doesn't know

22:18Declan Donnelly:what he means what I'm going to stop playing these stupid games if this is if this is the outcome so one of us did well yeah that's the question what are you saying you don't even know

22:35Ant McPartlin:Pedro Pascal no glasses glasses hooray really number two Justin Bieber aww The Biebs. The Biebs master. No glasses. No glasses. No glasses. Too young. Sabrina Carpenter. No glasses. I've seen her in glasses, but were they like prop glasses? Glasses. Glasses. Glasses. Yes. Hold on, you said no glasses. No glasses. Oh, shut up. That was a comma. Yeah. Tom Holland. 24:47Ant McPartlin:glasses hang on a minute

24:51Declan Donnelly:no you can't hang on a minute no you can't do any of that no no no no absolutely no way I don't know what I mean he said no glasses nobody knows what you mean this is how you end up winning this because then you just go you go back on a technicality and say no the camera there was no camera in bed right no I actually I meant no glasses. No glasses. I meant glasses. No glasses. I'm saying no glasses. And? It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. It does? I don't know what's going on anymore. Well, for those who are interested... I'll go the opposite of what he says. Barack Obama does not wear glasses.

25:28Declan Donnelly:Do I win then? Because Jack said, no glasses. So he meant he wears glasses.

25:33Ant McPartlin:No, that changed my mind. I said, no glasses. But you can't change your mind! Of course you can't. If you take your glasses off first... Where are the rules? You've got to have a... Hold on a second. If you take your glasses off first,

25:42Declan Donnelly:then you've got to give that answer.

25:45Ant McPartlin:Yeah, I gave me an answer.

25:47Declan Donnelly:But you changed your mind?

25:48Ant McPartlin:No, where in the rules says I can't change your mind?

25:50Declan Donnelly:Well, you can't just take your glasses off and then give two answers. Let me take my time to think about it.

25:55Ant McPartlin:I didn't see a final answer.

26:01Balls!

26:05No winner. I won!

26:08Declan Donnelly:Thank you. I won. Thank you, Jamala. No way, lad. Dex disqualified. Yeah, agreed. Agreed. Why? Why? For cheating. What? Yeah. I didn't say... Give it two answers. I didn't say final answer. Swiping your glasses off and not even having the thought in your head.

26:24Ant McPartlin:I didn't even say final answer. That's like pressing your button and going, um, uh, uh. You're first now. That's not in the rules. Send me the rules. Send me the written rules of glasses and glasses. Send the rules. And don't... Just write them on now. Send them on. That made me win. What do I win? What do I win? A pair of glasses. The title of bad winner. That's what you win. A sash which says bad winner. The thing I do not need. Bad winner. Any more glasses. I have got enough glasses. Please. Look at that. Here you go. Let's have another go. Six eyes. Six eyes. Get the red ones on the top. Yay.

27:09Ant McPartlin:if we don't win specs wearers of the year this year I will be furious

27:14Declan Donnelly:so will I we're giving you so many options guys

27:22Declan Donnelly:seriously though if there are any optometrists out there watching I would like to get properly sized up for them just because I've only ever kind of been in and bought them of you know how they look so I think I need a proper good pair for me, Ed. So, get in touch, guys. Deck looks like a villain from like a...

We've had tons of messages from people on their holidays who are listening to the pod and who are joining the Hanging Out Tourist Board as our local correspondents. Would you like to hear from Son? Yes, please. Callie and husband are in Amsterdam. he who shall not be named the current Cali husband is in Amsterdam oh ever been?

29:09Ant McPartlin:yes

29:10Declan Donnelly:see let's not talk about it we went on a stag do quite a few years ago didn't we dare not one of ours not one of ours was it not one of ours stag do's it was a friend of ours and um yeah let's leave it there we don't need to go into that on the pod I mean that's it

29:26Ant McPartlin:don't need to go any further do you stag do in Amsterdam that's it guys Kelly is in Fiji. Fiji? Fiji. Have you ever been to Fiji? I've never been to Fiji. I've never been to Fiji. Should we go to Fiji? I'd love to go to Fiji. Okay, I'll see you in Fiji. How do you get to Fiji? I think, well, if you get to Australia, you can go from there, can't you? It's not far, is it, from Australia, Fiji? They filmed the first Love Islands there, when it was... Do you remember when Love Island was a celebrity? Yes. That's how it started. That's right. Claire is in Jamaica. Ah. Hi, Claire. Listening to the pod, lying by the pool, listening to the sea.

30:05Claire, you're now a Jamaican foreign correspondent. I love that, Claire.

30:11Ant McPartlin:You painted a wonderful picture of your little holiday in Jamaica. Thank you for that. Andy and Chloe are in the caravan. They haven't told me where they are. Could be in the bottom of the garden. Still in the drive. Yeah. Andy and who? Andy and Chloe. Andy and Chloe

30:31Declan Donnelly:so they well we can't really give you a correspondence title because we don't you could be caravan correspondence I suppose we could send you anywhere in the UK yes or Europe or Europe you're a UK travelling correspondence well done

30:46Ant McPartlin:Claire Manson on her first solo abroad holiday in Kuzadasi where the hell is that Turkey Kuzadasi what a great name

30:55Declan Donnelly:I want to move there well done for being brave and well done Hey, all of you solo travelers out there listening to the pod, well done. Because actually, not now, but I think back in the day, I kind of regret not doing it. I regret not just doing a backpack, getting out there, and just traveling and seeing the world on my own and kind of finding out who you are and how good you are in certain situations. I think you learn a lot about yourself, don't you? But I'm not going to do it now because it would be like I'm just abandoning family. it'd be difficult for us now to do that and me and you yeah good point

31:31Ant McPartlin:for all of you people that are out there solo holidaying and listening to the pod I hope we're keeping you company on your travels and I hope you're enjoying the podcast and you never know you could get to bond over listening to Hanging Out that'd be good little community let us know if you're solo travelling where you are that's quite exciting

31:53Declan Donnelly:for solo travellers for group travellers I was thinking about this. Have you read much on this holiday? I haven't read a thing. Not a thing. Not a thing. Well, we're lucky because Wala still has an afternoon nap. Oh, bliss. Hold on to that as long as you can. Oh, I will. He didn't have one yesterday. I was like, what's going on? I don't get it. This is me reading time. But I was thinking, I'm going to mention the books I've been reading because it's always worth it if anyone's gone on holiday to have some good recommendations. Now, you know my favorite author ever is William Boyd. Right. So I love him.

32:28Declan Donnelly:My second favorite author is this guy, Amor Tolles. Right. He wrote this, The Lincoln Highway. He also wrote A Gentleman in Moscow, which is an excellent book. But then I was recommended this guy, Callan Wink. He's called. You can see that book. It's called Bare Tooth. It is brilliant. So obviously I got obsessed and then bought all of his books. but he's only got two.

32:54Ant McPartlin:Oh, right.

32:55Declan Donnelly:I try to buy all of them but he's only got two. This one called August. It's very good. So they're my summer reading. They're my recommendations. I mean, I don't know. We could start some kind of like book club thing but you know. Is that a thing? It's on the Tommy Edge. I don't know if it's ever been done before. I don't know if it's ever been done before. I don't know. I tell you what books are like. We all read the same book. We get together. We discuss it. Sounds too much. Sounds crazy. It would never work. No, I don't think so.

33:20Ant McPartlin:It would never be a thing. I've got one here from Oliver from Maidstone who says, Hello Antec and the crew. Hey. I am writing to share where I am on holiday as requested.

33:36Ant McPartlin:As requested. I am in Italy, specifically Lake Maggiore in the north. There are great views of the lake and the mountains, lovely weather around 27 degrees and a bit of thunder to add some fun. The only thing I could possibly fault is the curtains. They only opened halfway, and when trying to pull them out, they came crashing to the floor, leaving an awkward scenario as to whether I should tell reception. Would love your guys' thoughts on whether to tell them and would rate this holiday a solid seven out of eight bananas. Respect, Oliver from Maidstone. Should he tell reception that the curtains have fallen to the floor?

34:13Ant McPartlin:Absolutely, I would. Liz, on the other hand, is listening by the pool in our villa in Champagne. In our villa? What? No. What the hell? In her villa. What's she doing?

34:27Declan Donnelly:Okay. In her villa.

34:28Ant McPartlin:Liz is listening by the pool in her villa in Champagne. I don't know if the pool is filled with Champagne. I have a vision of Liz swimming in Champagne. Yeah. And there's a sunken Rolls Royce on the bottom like a 70s rock star. Liz. Yeah. You are fucking decadent. What a lady. Have you ever been to Champagne? I have not, no. Me neither. That concludes this week's Travellers and our foreign correspondents. What the heck is that? That's your minute to talk about golf, isn't it? Is that my golf minute? If you have a look at your phone, there's a couple of comments. Once you have a read-through, I will start the timer.

35:07Okay, golf comments.

35:08Ant McPartlin:Kevin G in Edinburgh says, For a fast swing, you should have a stiff shaft. Swing slow with a soft shaft. Dex Chippen, topping the ball. he's lifting his head too early and chucking it. Maybe he's standing too close or not hitting the ball first, then grass. Hmm, thanks for that, Kevin. Emma North, Emma in North Wales, says, Deck, chip advice, keep your arms in a V shape all the way through the swing. Don't deviate from the V shape. Feels weird, arms are stiff, but give it a try. P.S., let them talk golf, you monsters. You shouldn't say that, I added that at the end. Martin says, I take a little distance off my iron's wedges by playing the ball from my front foot.

35:49Ant McPartlin:Very good, Martin. Front foot sends the ball on a high trajectory, so lands with not much run on the ball. Back foot keeps the ball on a low trajectory, so it runs more. Great for a little chip and run shots around the green. But keep those hands pushing through to finish the swing, or you'll decelerate before hitting the ball, catching it fat or thin. Need to keep the golf chat in the pod, but not too much, says Martin. So I tried what you said, Anne, about the chipping, and got through the ball, but I absolutely thinned it and it went right through the green and into a bunker. So I don't know what I'm doing.

36:21Ant McPartlin:I think you're going to have to get hands on with me.

36:23Declan Donnelly:Right, I'll show you. I'll put my hands around you and then I can do the motion. Like the pottery ceiling ghost. Like, yeah, exactly. Is that exactly like that?

36:32Ant McPartlin:I'm going to try these though. I'm going to try Emma's Yeah, do. Chipping in a V-ship with stiff arms. Quiet please. Oh God. Oh God, what? Okay, I'll do, I'm going to try some chipping advice. And maybe we'll film it and put it on our socials and see if I can actually perfect the chip.

36:52Declan Donnelly:They talked about us on Parent and Hell.

36:55Ant McPartlin:Josh Widdicombe and Rob Beckett.

36:57Declan Donnelly:Nice to get a mention. Cheers, lads. Thanks. They wanted to know if you wear coats. Oh, yeah, they did. Because we're from Newcastle, do we wear coats? Yes, of course we wear bloody coats. Have you ever seen Amos Celebrity Get Me Out of Here? We're always in bloody coats. Yeah. In Australia, for Christ's sake. We get so many messages. We wear jackets in Australia. We get so many messages. Shackets. They're jackets, not coats. They're not coats, they're shacks. Oh yeah, they're jackets, you're right. They're shackets and jackets, not coats. Why do people think people in Newcastle don't wear coats?

37:28Declan Donnelly:Well, it is kind of true. People don't wear a coat on a night out. So this is more like a Thursday, Friday, Saturday kind of thing. So if you're going into town, if you're going to do the tune and you go on for a few drinks, then why would you want a big heavy coat? Because all the bars are kind of near each other. So once you've had a couple of drinks, you don't really feel the cold anyway. So you go out, you don't take a big coat with you. And it is notoriously mostly the girls who don't wear coats. Otherwise, you've just got to carry it around all night. So it's kind of true what they're saying.

38:04Have you seen Peter Jones on the golf course yet?

38:07Declan Donnelly:No, I spoke to him on the phone and I said that we are talking about it on the pod. We've received a cease and desist letter. Yeah, we haven't heard back from him since then from others. So I can't pitch him anything. Have we had any more hacks? I've sent you one, Amp. Okay, okay, yes, you have. Look, I'll read it out and if it's worth it, I'll compile the best ones. Because we had a brilliant one last week,

38:38Ant McPartlin:the white gloves to clean your Venetian blinds was it was you know to coin a phrase it was a blinder it was and I think the video sold it yes it's all about it's all about the pitch

38:50Declan Donnelly:it's all about the pitch well actually our listeners have really loved that do you want to see what they've done there he is Dr. Gloves that is very good 100 % cotton Edwardian gloves once it's most that is brilliant no sprays no gloves that's brilliant you guys amazing I love you guys Amazing I've got one here then It says hi guys Hi Hi Hi Love listening to you all And when I heard Sorry hold on Do I put the big ones on I'm going to let's cut Let's put the big ones on Yeah big one Love listening to you all And when I heard your recent episode Asking for hacks or ideas I couldn't resist writing in With an absolutely genius business idea Which I've been annoying my family with for years

39:31Ant McPartlin:We'll be the judge of that

39:32Declan Donnelly:Small lockers at entrances to airports For your car keys Who wants to carry your car keys on holiday and risk losing them? Hmm? Well, small lockers with an app to provide a unique code means you can keep them safe from the moment you leave to the moment you return. The app could also signal if someone has removed the keys without your approval, so the police could be called out immediately. Sorted. Respect, guys. Claire. Discus. Not sure about that. You don't like the small lockers? it wasn't that a thing though like you always see that in movies not necessarily at airports but at train stations they used to be lockers like safety deposit boxes or something yeah like the end of train spot where he goes to the locker and puts something in there yes I would just say look after your car keys seems like a lot of faff so this one is more of a hack hi Aunt Dec and Heckler's Corner hey a lot of love for Heckler's Corner and dole hair from Fiona.

40:35Declan Donnelly:She really likes you. I'd love to share a life hack that my husband discovered completely by accident. It's honestly been a game changer. If you've ever struggled to find the end of a roll of cling film, oh my God. Who hasn't? Yes, I have. Try this. Wet your hands first. For some reason, with wet hands, you can find the end of the cling film in seconds. It lifts and rolls instantly. I would say this is a massive 10 banana rating. Doesn't work, it only goes to 8. respect guys Helen in Oxfordshire well we have to try this out we do have to try it out that is a good hack I've never seen that hack before nah what a hack how do you find it more with wet hands I don't get the physics of it does it work with sellotape I wonder it must do I doubt it oh is it me my mini gold right do I have any comments please pray tell hecklers you do have a couple of comments okay yes yes yes comments about your stiff shaft Yes, yes, yes, yes.

41:36Declan Donnelly:Ant, you should buy ladies clubs for more flex. Shut up, you. Emma from Leeds. Hi, I'm Josh, an 18-year-old golfer, but an eight-handicabber. And the shaft normally depends on your swing speed. Generally speaking, Ant, if you're a slower speed from not 95 miles an hour, you should use a flexible shaft. However, if you feel you're more of a faster swing speed, then that's when you use the stiff shaft. That's good to know. That is good to know. Respect, guys. Josh, thank you. and get fit for a driver and your clubs. Best thing I ever did. Rich K from Telford, Shropshire. And my boyfriend had his, this is a different person, my boyfriend had his grips changed to thicker ones.

42:16Declan Donnelly:That changed his game. Amy Duke. All of the grips? All of the grips to thicker ones.

42:23Ant McPartlin:Big fat iron grips.

42:25Declan Donnelly:Well, actually, on the driver's thumb, yeah, I've got 20 seconds, I had two drivers at the range and I have really worked on one of them. It's working at the minute. And the one where I wanted a really flexi shaft. Yes. I went into the golf club. Yes. After I'd done the podcast last week. Yes. And I said, can you change this to a really flexible shaft? He said, let me have a look. I hit two balls with this shaft. They went straight down the middle of the fairway. Quiet, please. What? Quiet, please. In the middle of a story. Go on, finish it. Finish it. Are you serious? go on finish it he went straight down the middle of the fairway and he was like I'm not going to give you a more flexible shaft this one's mid he says and you've hit it really straight he says don't waste your money get out of here so he refused he didn't think get out of here he's very professional

43:16Ant McPartlin:he refused to change your shaft yeah

43:19Declan Donnelly:he wouldn't wouldn't change the shaft oh sorry I've just realised there was one more comment I forgot to share with you it's here is it from you? hi I'm Dick It's Ryan Fox here I heard you get rid of a golfing trip at the moment And might need some advice I'm sitting here with the claret jug

43:44Golf's a game of strategy I'd like to say Don't follow up a bad shot with a bad decision Go out there and have fun Enjoy it

43:54Declan Donnelly:Oh my god This is the greatest thing that's ever happened to me The current

43:59Ant McPartlin:What the hell? Champion golfer of the year, Ryan Fox, has just given us golf advice. Oh my God. Life has peaked. I wasn't listening to anything he said. I was too shocked. I don't know. He just said, just keep doing what you're doing and be brilliant or something. I don't know. I don't know what he said. I don't know what he said. He was brilliant.

44:17Declan Donnelly:Oh my God. Thanks, Ryan. Thank you. And congratulations again on your win. You're a brilliant golfer and a nice guy. I met him. I met him at our golf club, you know. Oh, did you? Did I say this last time? He holds the course record, doesn't he, at our golf club he does hold the course record at our golf club and he was he just played before me thank god he wasn't stuck behind me for hours um but he was the loveliest guy when I met him um in the in the bar afterwards so um respect to you

44:42Ant McPartlin:Ryan oh congratulations man that's brilliant thank you so much what a lovely message

44:49Declan Donnelly:that was nice did you guys did you were you yeah you

44:53Ant McPartlin:guys you cheeky guys he's a fan of the show he heard you We're looking for the pod. Ah, thanks, Poxy. That's amazing. Amazing. I've got a very beige lunch lined up. Still, still. Can you hear this? What is that? You can't eat it. You can't eat it. What is that noise? What are you doing? I'm just rolling some dice for the holiday bingo. Forgot to take the tomboy now. You didn't bring the tomboy at home, did you? No. So it's just, it's holiday dice today. Holiday dice. Fine, fine, fine. We've got some holiday questions. We've got some closing questions. for you okay let's do it number eight have just rolled on two dice to clarify that's two dice you could roll on anything number eight what is your dream holiday destination and what is the

45:42Declan Donnelly:allure oh god there's so many there's so many places in the world i want to go to top of my list at the minute is buenos aires in argentina i've always wanted to go to south america so i'd love to go there or rio de janeiro and rio de janeiro because i'll say isn't it rio de janeiro can you say robert de nero robert de nero robert de nero in brazil i'd like to meet robert de nero in brazil yeah wicked that'd be cool uh yeah there's loads there's there's that there's loads of i'd still meet the copenhagen i talk about it all the time want to go there um there yeah this this there's too many too many to list vietnam i'd love to go vietnam Bali, you mentioned before, I'd love to go there.

46:28Declan Donnelly:It's just like traveling, man. I want to go to Bora Bora.

46:33Ant McPartlin:Yeah, that sounds good, doesn't it? Doesn't it? It's the furthest place away from home. You can't get any further away than Bora Bora. And apparently it is incredible. And you can swim with pigs. What? Pigs swim out there. No. Good to.

46:48Declan Donnelly:Baby John Pork. You can swim with John Pork. I'd let all of your dreams realize that because you've always wanted to do that. I've always wanted to do that. You've been constantly saying, get your shorts on, John Paul, we'll go swimming.

46:59Ant McPartlin:I wanted to do so much that sometimes I just throw a few sausages in the swimming pool here just to get the same kind of feeling.

47:05Declan Donnelly:Yeah, you can. You can go swimming with pigs. Can you really?

47:08Ant McPartlin:Yeah. There you go. Look at that. 2026. We're living in the future. Here we go again. Another one. Okay. Four and two. Six.

47:19Declan Donnelly:Everyone's definitely on holiday, aren't they? How have holidays changed through your life from being kids to being young adults and lads to being dads?

47:29Ant McPartlin:Oh, that is quite interesting. Well, I suppose they've kind of come full circle because going on holiday as a kid, you know, your parents pack all your clothes. They tell you what to wear every day. You get taken somewhere. You do an activity. You just exist on the holiday. You go and have a lovely time. Then you grow up a bit and you become a bit of a lad and you have a few lads holidays and it's all about going out and boozing and playing golf and sunbathing and doing all that. And then you become a father. And then suddenly you're the one that has to pack the bags and come up with stuff for the kids to do and take them out and make sure they're having a nice time.

48:11Ant McPartlin:So the roles are kind of reversed and you have to make sure the kids are having a lovely holiday. So I suppose, yeah, they've come full circle. Another one? Yeah. Last one. Six and five. That's probably the hardest one to add. 11 11 11 what is the place that you've been to that shifted a perspective you had do you know when the first time we ever went to japan to do promotion for um our music we landed

48:40Declan Donnelly:and we got picked up by the airport and it was i think there was like a tv crew there from mtv or whatever constantly filming so we'd never been on a long haul flight before so we landed in japan And you're constantly being filmed. You're jet lagged. You're tired. You're in this minibus. And I just remember feeling like the biggest fish out of water because everything was different. It was like I'd landed on the moon. None of the signs or any of the literature I could see was in English. There was nothing. Now, I'd been abroad before to Europe, but nothing was in English. None of the road signs.

49:15Declan Donnelly:And as you're going, the traffic was really, really busy, I remember. and when we got to the hotel everything was culturally so different i just thought oh my god we're not the center of the universe you know the uk and europe and the way we do things is not is not everything it's not all about us there is a whole world out there with their own way of doing things and their own cultures and their own languages and and beliefs and etc that opened in my eyes to go things are different things can be different and and i think it's you can't help but have your mind opened to more possibilities and i think you're a little bit more tolerant with people you understand different people more and different cultures more and different backgrounds more when you travel more i think that at this day in this day travel broadens the mind it really does because it makes you less rigid in your beliefs and and the way you think people should be or how they should act or behave or whatever you travel the world and you go oh my god it's so different we're all so different and that's cool and that's the great thing about it they do it that way we do it this way wicked that's that's what makes the world go around yeah

50:30Ant McPartlin:absolutely even going somewhere like that and going into your hotel room and putting the tv on and not having like very many English speaking TV channels. You know, you got, we had CNN and probably BBC World and that was about it. And other than that, it's all Japanese TV and Japanese game shows and Japanese daytime shows. You're like, what is all this about? You can't understand any of it. And then, yeah, you realize that this is their culture and I need to fit into this. I need to kind of enjoy this. This is why I'm here. I'm not here to just experience English, British culture whilst being in the Far East.

51:10Ant McPartlin:I'm here to immerse myself in this, even though we went to a steak restaurant every night and didn't eat any raw fish whatsoever. We went for ribs.

51:19Declan Donnelly:Our palates took a little bit longer to mature than there. The rest of us. Than our minds.

51:25Ant McPartlin:Yeah. Yeah, I think I agree with that. The Far East, definitely. That's it. That's all we've got time for. From the publisher

This week, the boys are hanging out on holiday. Ant's been spotted at the beach, Dec's got some sexy new specs, and they tackle the all important question: do Geordies wear coats?
