In short

The 30th episode celebration of “Hanging Out with Ant and Dec,” featuring highlights from the past seven months, listener letters, and a long comedic “Dex Diary” origin/anniversary segment. The episode also includes brief pop-culture and sponsor reads (Crocs back-to-school, Ollie supplements, TV Licensing, Gemini AI workouts, Northern Door Co pizza dough, etc.).

Guests

No traditional guests. Main hosts are Ant and Dec. “Guests” appear only as listener correspondents (e.g., Lorna, Bethan(s), Kerry/Kelly, Mike, Rowan and Dana, Chantel, Heather, Kit, Alice, Clarice) whose letters/diary entries are read aloud.

Key claims

Dex’s diary excerpts are from 1994 “Life on the Road,” including the “origin of Dec’s diary” idea and a “final installment” ending with a hairdryer. Listener feedback is used to justify making the podcast longer/shorter and to debate whether “Bethan” is a real name.

Notable examples

Portsmouth/Edinburgh/Blue Peter rehearsals; a diary viewer’s entry about filming with no camera film; multiple “Bethan” letters; a toilet incident involving a soggy jacket; chart day reaching number 27; Gemini workout/food tips and push-up form feedback.

3:46Ant McPartlin:And if I point it and press it at the camera, I think we can watch back some of the best moments from the last seven months. Really? Watch myself on telly? My favourite thing to do. Okay. Let's see if this works. I'm going to give this a bash just like this. I was summoned first week of January by Mrs Donnelly. By the current Mrs D. Yeah. She The current Mrs D. Yeah, you never know. What's going to happen, do you? Trust me, you don't.

4:16Ant McPartlin:To our storage unit. Oh, yeah. Which is always a joy on your day off. So, yeah, I spent an afternoon going through. Doing what? Like organizing what? Well, going through old mirrors, bits of furniture. I look great in this one. I also look great in this one. I don't look so good in this one. Let's leave it. That's all I did, just look in all the mirrors. Why do you keep all this stuff? Why? Yeah. Because we don't have an attic or a garage. We've got a garden shed, but that's full of... Mirrors. Cushions. That's got the outdoor furniture. What? Just get rid of it, bud. No, it's the cushions for the summer.

4:53Ant McPartlin:What? The cushions for the summer for the outdoor furniture. Oh, okay, right. The other stuff obviously has to go into storage. Like the Christmas tree. What I found in there is some old memorabilia boxes. Of? Of mine from days gone by. Oh, PJ and Duncan stuff. PJ and Duncan stuff. old script did you I found a diary that I kept from 1994 it's the three weeks in the run up to the first chart position of Why Me now none of you will know none of you will know what that means that was the first that was the that was the song before Let's Get Ready to Rumble yeah that was the first proper PJ and Duncan single how's it go Why Me it's a crying shame Why Me aren't we all the same Why Me Is it justified?

5:41Ant McPartlin:Why me? Why me? Diary. Come on. Diary. Do you want me to read it? No, no, no, no, no, no. It's definitely something in there about me, isn't it? Is that it? It's not even a diary. What is that? It's just a little notepad. Look, every day. It is just a little notepad. It's gone slightly yellow. 28th of March, 1994. 28th of March, 1994. Day one. Oh, boy. Oh, boy? Is that what you said? Yeah. Quite a busy day today. Oh. Up at 10.30-ish, breakfast at our manager's house, and on the road at 1.30, our fan club cards didn't arrive. Oh, my God. Stop. Stop. Stop. So we had to autograph flyers and stuff.

6:23Stop.

6:24Ant McPartlin:Arrived in Portsmouth around 4pm, had a beer, and went on stage about half five. Now it's so unlike us. Yeah. We'd never normally have a beer and then go on stage. No. The crowd were great and Why Me went down well. Bad Boys Inc. were there too. And two guys called General Something were there. Top blokes, respect guys. Did you write respect guys? You did not write respect guys. You were top blokes, respect guys. Oh my God. I'd like to point out now that Deck does not speak for the parables when he writes this. This is Deck's diary entry alone. So we were in Portsmouth. Really? After we finished, we went straight off to Yate in Avon.

7:04Ant McPartlin:The people there are very straight.

7:09Ant McPartlin:And put it good when he said, they just sit back and say, impress us. Well, we eventually warmed them up. Oh, did we? We eventually impressed them. I got them jumping. We're now in this hotel in Bristol. You got them jumping. Respect, guys. Respect, guys. We got them jumping. We're now in this hotel in Bristol, the Forte Travelodge.

7:32Nobody, nobody in the history of travelling has ever used the word forte when they've described a travel lodge? It's clean and comfy. Yeah, it was. They were very clean and comfy. But that's it.

7:43Ant McPartlin:Very basic. Yeah. It's now 1am the next day and I suppose I'd better sleep before our road manager arrives and gets us both out of bed again. Oh my... Oh, well... Gets us both out of bed again! Oh, well. Life on the road, eh? Ha ha! So let me bring you back. See, when you wrote this, what made you think you should write this diary in the first place. I foresaw a podcast. No, did you think maybe you'd need to write an autobiography one day? Or maybe like someone might want your diaries one day when you pass? It was just an exciting... Would they want to publish your diaries? It was an exciting time in my life.

8:21Respect, guys. Respect. I've never heard you say that. I've never heard you say it at a time. I've never heard you say it since. You've never given respect to anybody.

8:32Ant McPartlin:Well, I'm not doing any more pages today. We'll just do day one. Oh, how many pages are there? There are 21 days. Oh, that's pretty good going. Stay tuned. Day two, we're off to Radio Coventry. Oh. We enjoyed very much going into the comments. I don't normally like going into the comments, if I'm honest with you. You never read the... If it's a newspaper article about you, like if you're in one of the papers and there's like comments at the bottom, never read them. No. That was the first bit of advice we were ever given. Don't read the comments because anybody that leaves a comment in a newspaper, but it's not going to leave a nice comment on it.

9:05No. They're not. They've not gone there to praise you, have they? They haven't gone there to praise you. And I did it once and I'll never do it again because they're never good. So let's hope that these comments are better.

9:17Ant McPartlin:Thankfully, I delved into the comments and they were better. Do you want me to read you some of the comments? Yes, please. Okay. Enjoying the podcast could do with it being longer. Okay. That's positive. That's fair enough. That means they liked it and they want a bit more. Yeah, because the opposite of that was enjoying the podcast, it could do with being shorter. Yeah, exactly. You don't want that kind of feedback. Just relax and chat to each other. We'll watch. What, are you relaxed? What are you talking about? I am relaxed. I'm not relaxed now. Now I'm annoyed. Who puts that? Just relax and chat.

9:47That's what we're doing. That's the whole point of a podcast. Jeez, hell. That's me, mother. Hey, just relax.

9:55Ant McPartlin:Just relax. Frankie says relax. That's what it should say. Just relax. Yeah. Just relax, T-shirt, for next week. It's not a podcast till you both drop the F word. Oh, pfft. We'll have to bleep that. We will bleep that. We've got to bleep that. Well, I'm trying not to swear. Just relax. Whatever you do on this won't affect your TV stuff. Good first round, though. Why are they imagining to relax as well? You obviously didn't look that relaxed on the first day. It's like saying to someone, calm down. Then that's a ho. Do you know what I mean? No, it does the opposite. Okay, well, we're not going to just swear for the sake of it.

10:28Ant McPartlin:So, we will try not to swear. So, go f*** yourself. We'll have to bleep that as well. That was from Bethany. Bethany? Bethany. Just Bethany. Just Bethany. Then I've got another one. People are called Bethany? Yeah. Is it? Yeah. She is. Yeah, that's a turn. Now I'm just thinking that you haven't missed a Y, have you? People are called Bethany. That's not a thing. You're wiring me up. No, it is. Prove it. Can you send a picture of your driving license or passport? Please. I don't believe you. Bethany. Name me a famous Bethany. My old neighbour. Your neighbour? Yeah. How convenient. Your old neighbour.

11:06So I can't even pop round and talk to her. Nice. Because she's old. Nice try, sexy. Bethan Jenkins. Don't know. Bethan Guanas. No. Bethan Hughes. No. Bethan Effin. No. I'm Effin and Jeffin at you two in a minute. Whoa, we've got a ball of paper, not just an aeroplane. No, aeroplane's this sweet. Do you want me to unfurl this? Bethans across the country have been in touch.

11:29Ant McPartlin:Should I read this? I think you probably should. Come on. Bethan's across the country been in touch since you said Bethan isn't a proper name. Uh-huh. Go on. Prove me wrong. Bethan Parfit says, Bethans of the world unite. I can't believe Ant didn't know Bethan was a name. It's a Welsh name. And there were three Bethans in my primary school class of 30 people. Well, that's good for her. But I've not met one. And 10 in my secondary school year in Newport. What a silly goose. How convenient, Bethan, that the only other Bethans you know went to your primary school and then your secondary school. And I've never met them.

12:06Ant McPartlin:Another Bethan says, on behalf of Bethans Everywhere, I wanted to share that, of course, it's a real name. Bethan is, in fact, the Welsh version of Elizabeth. What? Something. Oh, how silly of me. Something that, as a Welsh woman, I'm very passionate about. You went slightly well for me. I discussed something else there. I'm very passionate about. Yeah, it's good. You also pronounce it as Beth-An As it's Welsh Beth-An Oh, okay Now that's, alright Yeah, okay Other outraged Bethans who have written in Are Bethan Wynne-Jones Bethan G from Lichfield Bethan R from Swindon Bethan Grey from South Wales Who said Since he thinks my name doesn't exist I will refer to Ant as Tony Sorry Ant, but you brought this on yourself Do you know what?

12:53Just because I don't know something it shouldn't have to bring on this amount of vitriol vitriol and criticism I didn't know that I didn't go to primary school with Bethans or secondary school with Bethans do you think these Bethans owe you an apology? yeah I do actually do you? yeah can you make it on their behalf? one of the Bethans says

13:14Ant McPartlin:we will apologise as a collective of Bethans if Ant apologises to Jamie Oliver no they did not say that shut up I've got nothing to apologise to Jamie Oliver for. Although I do have a lot to apologise to the Bethans for. So here we go. Didn't know it was a name. So sorry. Ah! We have got one more Bethan here. We've got the full letter. Dear Ant and Deck. Hi. Spelt with a K. I'll see past that, Bethan. Has she? Like Deckchair. Brilliant. Brilliant. Dear Ant and Deck with a K. I think you will be shocked to hear this, but to your surprise, my name is Bethan. I'm not shocked now, Bethan, because we've been through it.

13:59Ant McPartlin:But go on, carry on. I had seen a short clip of you saying, can you actually get that as a name? She's seen a short clip, Shaz, and watch the whole pod. Hold on, why have you not subscribed to Beltabox to watch the whole pod? She'll not see this then, will she? No, unless we clip this up. Can we clip this up? No, don't send it to her. I had seen a short clip of you saying, can you actually get that as a name? And this is when my mum said, maybe you should write a letter to him and say that you can. And this is then yet another thing. I decide I will. And then start writing. I got quite excited for the thought of you knowing that it could be a name.

14:35Ant McPartlin:Then you should know. Then you would know one person called Bethan. That's from Bethan, age nine. Isn't that a lovely letter? It's a lovely letter. I mean, there's a lot of talk about the thought process into the letter writing and less letter. Yeah. There's not much letter. Yeah. It's quite a meta letter. She's taught us through the process of writing a letter. I love that, Bethan. And by the time you get to the end of the process of writing the letter, the letter's finished. I'd like more letter from her, from Bethan. More letters from Bethan. That's good. Okay, apologize. My biggest apology is to you, Bethan, age nine.

15:16Ant McPartlin:and to all Bethans out there respect guys but not Jamie Oliver what's the worst thing you've dropped out of the toilet huh what's the worst thing you've dropped out of the toilet mobiles mobile phone a lot not so much anymore used to be a thing I used to do it loads it's the when it's in your back pocket yeah you pull your trousers down and go oh yeah plop not the plop you're expecting oh no done that My coat fell down. Your coat? My coat. Well, a jacket. I was in a public toilet and there was nothing to hang my coat on, but I really wanted to take my jacket off because I just needed to sit. Yeah.

15:58Where did you put it? Well, I kind of held it under my arm. Held it under my arm like this. And then as I flushed like this, I stood up and it just slipped. It was slipped out under my arm and went into the toilet. and it got it got so wet like of course it would get wet but it was really soggy try explaining a soggy jacket when you come out of the toilet it's impossible

16:26Ant McPartlin:because had you flushed? yeah I flushed so it was gushing and I think the flush sucked it in more

16:35Ant McPartlin:this next bit is brought to you by TV Licensing have you been watching anything good? Forces of Nature that Nature documentary? Yeah. I love a nature documentary. I do. I haven't actually seen this one yet, though. Have you not? No. You'll love it. What's going on? It's about how nature is fighting back against extreme weather. Oh, really? Yeah, you really like it. I love any kind of nature documentary, man. Yeah. Don't you? But one that feels so topical, as we are in the middle of a sweating hot summer, that's quite interesting. Yeah, it's really good. Like how all species of animals are coping with the change in weather and stuff.

17:10Ant McPartlin:Yeah. You've got it in one. That's interesting. You'll like it. I will like that. Add it to your plow. I'll put that on. It sounds like it could be quite dramatic. Tell you what else is quite dramatic. Go on. The return, the return of Van der Volk. What? Do you remember Van der Volk? Yeah. It had that really iconic theme tune. Is that back, is it? It's coming back with a remake. Oh. So, you know, they've done loads of detective drama remakes. Yes. Like, Bergerac is back in Jersey. Yeah. And now, Van der Volk is back. Was it in, like, Amsterdam or something? Yes, set in Amsterdam. And it's got that really lovely theme tune.

17:42Ant McPartlin:I don't know if the new version has got the same theme tune well I hope it has the theme tune was really iconic sing it

17:53Ant McPartlin:yeah I know it you don't need me to carry it always carries on a bit too long this is like I think series 3 or 4 of the remake but it's been 3 years since the last series has been out yeah it's updated it's brought back into the modern day That sounds good. Yes, I think it's going to be really good. I think it's going to be fun. A TV licence covers you to watch over 400 TV channels, including the ones we've talked about today, and BBC iPlayer. To find out more, go to tvl.co.uk slash pod. This next section is brought to you by Northern Door Cor. Now, there's nothing better, is there, than getting the whole family together to have a pizza party.

18:37Ant McPartlin:Well, if there is anything better than that, I don't want to know about it. Everyone can just create their own pizzas. There's no more arguments about whether everybody wants mushrooms, whether pineapple belongs on a pizza or not. No more arguments. You can do whatever you want. But everybody knows that great pizza starts with great pizza dough. And that's where the Northern Door Co have got you covered. Who writes that? was required to rehearse for Blue Peter. Oh, Blue Peter. We were going to be on Blue Peter, guys. We're going to be on the telly. We sang live, double underlined. Did we? Mm-hmm. And had to run through the track a few times. Because our pitching was all over the place.

21:18Ant McPartlin:I'm quite philosophical about it. Are you? Oh well. That's showbiz. God, that was amazing. Doing that all in one day. That was proper pop star. It was good for us, but I wonder what it would be like if you were a fan of P.J. Duncan back then. You know? Like, you see us at a roadshow. Then you go home, you get to see us on telly. Oh, yes. I've actually, I've actually, in my drawer behind us, I've got a diary. I don't have a genius. Is this your diary? It's not my diary. It's a diary from one of our viewers who was there on the day. In Scotland? So it is the same day. No. 7th of April, 1994. Thursday, the 7th of April, 1994.

22:00Who is this? This is Lorna. Thank you, Lorna. Shall I read? I haven't read this beforehand. Okay. I thought I'd just do it on the pod. Oh my God! Exclamation mark. Today was so good, yet so bad at the same time. Did she read the Just 17 review as well? Maybe. We'll get to that. We got through to Edinburgh so early so we could be right at the front, which we were. Deck looked totally gorge. He was so cute when he was dancing. I can't actually believe how close I was to him. Breathing the same air. Fan me down. I was dying. Dying is in capital letters. Fan me down. I was going to use that. This is my diary, by the way.

22:55I caught his eye at the end and waved our banner and he flashed me a giant cheeser. highlight of my life he's very good at giant Jesus decades it was so adorable I was screaming so much I now have no voice in brackets and my mum says I'm so immature like I care honestly it was so good they are they are I'm involved now thanks Laura they are amazing on stage I swear it was the best day ever until we realised I can't even hardly bear to write this. Oh, what happened?

23:39Ant McPartlin:What happened? There was no film in the camera.

23:46We had no film in the camera! Exclamation mark, exclamation mark, exclamation mark, exclamation mark. We took so many photos of death looking like a total mega bonk.

24:01And now I have nothing. I have nothing. I feel so bad. It's my fault and I don't think Lucy will ever forgive me. I will never forgive myself. She's done with her faces where you do unhappy mouth. I will never be as close to them again, knowing my look. He did look gorge, though. I know I will love him for the rest of my life. Lorna. Oh my God, Lorna. That is...

24:38Ant McPartlin:That was good for Lorna. God almighty. That was epic. That is amazing. If there's any more Lorna, we want to hear it. Because if we can tally them up with your diary, then that would be really good. Has anybody else got any more diary entries that kind of tally with Dex Diary? where we're up to April the 7th so anything from April the 7th onwards we will happily read them out on the pod but thank you Lorna for sending this in that has made the show for me today that is amazing Lorna I mean I thought that was a great day that was a good day but see it from the other side from the other angles no friseless filming the camera though god you mega bunk

26:24Good God. Good God Oh my God I'm so sorry Mike He says respect guys Is that the end of the story? Oh no he passed his exams He passed Luckily Luckily I managed to pass my exams Respect guys Are you right? It's a terrible prize Terrible And then for that prize to be delivered late It's even worse

26:52Ant McPartlin:Let me update you Please do So I was going to dive straight into the listeners map. Okay. Oh, hey, there's an aeroplane coming in. Right. Hang on a minute. Let me read this to you first. Oh, you need your specs for that one. Look how long that letter is. Who has time in the day to write a letter that long? Kerry does. Kerry. Hi, Kerry. Hi, Kerry. Dear Ant and Dec, I hope this finds you both well. Doesn't actually. Doesn't find me well. Still got an ear infection. Thanks for asking. Nothing. Nah. What's going on, Dec? What is going on? What is going on? Any ear doctors watching or listening? Get in touch.

27:25I need your help. Dear Andon Deck. Yeah, hi Kelly. Kerry.

27:29Ant McPartlin:Kerry. I hope this finds you both well. It doesn't actually. And still very pleased with yourselves. This is starting well, hasn't it? Good start. This is getting better. I hope this finds you both well and still very pleased with yourselves over the ever-expanding global footprint of the podcast. I am writing with you with what I would describe as a mild but heartfelt grievance. Grievance? Each week with great enthusiasm, you unveil your world map. Yeah, we do. And proceed to marvel at listeners in far-flung corners of the globe. And the rich. Australia, Canada, the United States. All right. Cue stories about tours, jungle adventures, or the time you nearly bought a pair of cowboy boots.

28:10Ant McPartlin:I don't remember that story. We never. Did we tell that story? We have not talked about what? She's making that up. Kerry, you've made that up. You've made that up. I've got a grievance about your grievance. We never once talked about buying cowboy boots. I don't think I've ever worn I must have worn for like a sketch yeah you have yeah but I've never bought a pair of cowboy boots have you do you remember when we shot you should because there's a little heel up there it's a good heel do you remember when we filmed who shot Simon Cowell oh yeah and we were dressed as I think we were at a fancy dress party yeah and we were dressed as cowboys but it took like a week to shoot the whole thing and we were dressed as cowboys for a week yes and by the end of it you're just like oh get rid of these boots anyway Kerry goes on Yep And yet What of us?

28:54Ant McPartlin:What of the loyal British listeners Quietly tuning in From perfectly respectable towns and cities Across the UK We get no pins No stories No nostalgic recollections Of a service station off the A1 Nothing Until you have truly cracked America May I gently propose You focus on the solid home support Wow That is a grievance Kerry Kerry Oh you should have Wrote this Did you go on? You should have wrote this slept on it and then read it back and then it's on before you sent it. When Dex says reach, perhaps that is the moment to actually reach for a UK map. Okay, right, yeah, that's a fair point. For balance, I currently live in Derby, which has many fine qualities.

29:33Ant McPartlin:I was born in Doncaster. I'm confident there is at least one anecdote between you involving either a race course, a theatre, or a service station sandwich. I look forward to hearing Derby and Donnie receive the recognition they so richly deserve. Kerry. Let's put a really awful taste in my mouth, Kerry. And we won't have a map. Do we have a map? We do. We do? We do. Oh, okay. Okay. Kerry, we might be able to help you out here.

30:08On the back of the listeners' arm. I've got the map. Okay, there you go. That's good. So. Kelly, Kerry, whatever you're called. Kerry. This is all for you. in Donnie and Derby. Have you ever been to Derby? Probably, yes. Yeah. Yeah. Any funny stories about service stations, sandwiches or cardboard boots? None that sprint to mind. Shane, any funny stories about service stations, cardboard boots or sandwiches in Doncaster?

30:35Ant McPartlin:None that sprint to mind. Oh, sorry, Kerry. Go on. But thank you for your letter and it has made us think twice about it. Just going to file that in constructive criticism over there. Violent cabinet Sure Thanks But it did make me think About everybody That is listening in the UK So for this week We're going to do A UK special Okay So we have Chantel in Liverpool There she is Up in Liverpool Ever been? Yes I have been to Liverpool Many times We love Liverpool a lot Heather is in Cornwall Down in Cornwall Hi Heather I went to do A Cornish accent And then I decided Against it You've got Yeah you do What the accent?

Family time. I didn't like to talk about it. Private time. Private, private, you get a pen, private time. Just circle, circle Cornwall.

31:56Ant McPartlin:You know, Ron Atkinson never wanted Mr. Bean in Italy because he wanted to go somewhere in his home. Thank you. It's me in Cornwall. Yeah. I never talk about it. So just like Britain's got talent and I'm a celebrity, we can't see a limitless win there, nothing. Nobody knows who I am in Cornwall. That's good, so you can just walk around. Yeah. Private time. Private time. Good. Family time. Kit is in Northumberland. Yeah, of course, we're in Northumberland. It's been in Northampton, a loads, beautiful part of the world. It is gorgeous. Alice is in Dorset. It's a bit like your Cornish accent now, isn't it?

32:23The Dorset accent. Alice has listened to Dorset, have you been? Yes, I have been in Dorset. What have you done in Dorset? Went on a holiday down there to Dorset. Went crabbing in Dorset. Sorry? Crabbing. Crabbing? Crabbing. Getting crabs. Grabbing, crabbing. Grabbing, crabs. Grabbing crabs. Do you know the key to getting good crabs? Bacon. Bacon fat. I was going to say that, Lola, and you've ruined my podcast. You ruined today's podcast. That's it. Respect, guys. Bacon fat. They love it. Crabs can't get enough of it. So if you want a bucket full of crabs, bacon fat.

32:56Ant McPartlin:There you go. Handy hints. Clarice is in Derry, Northern Ireland. Ah, Clarice. Clarice. Yeah, you know Derry, Northern Ireland well, don't you? I do. Used to go there on family holidays. Private time hits to talk about it. Every year. This next bit is brought to you by Gemini, Google's AI app. So, question for you. Go on. Did you do a full body workout today? No, I did not. Oh, why? Did one yesterday, though. Did you? Bashed out a full body yesterday. Don't say that. It's rest day of the day, then tomorrow I've got posterior chain. What on earth is that? It's your back. Hamstrings, calves, glutes.

33:34Ant McPartlin:God, don't forget the glutes. No, don't forget the glutes. Back. It's a bit worse than... Do you want me to do a workout plan with Google Gemini? That's a great idea. Should I do one? Yes, please. See what it says? Yeah. Okay. Gemini, can you build deck and exercise plan for a full body workout? He's a 50 year old man. Unnecessary. Who leads a very busy life. So keep the workouts short, but impactful. Impactful. Always include a good warmup. What does Gemini say? Gemini says, here's a time efficient, high impact, full body workout plan. Time efficient is good. Designed specifically for busy bees.

34:14That's you. So the schedule, two to three times a week. Yeah. Yeah. Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Yeah. Duration, 35 to 45 minutes in total, including warm up. That's good. That is good. Do you warm up? I do. Always. What kind of warm do you do? I do stretches. because Gemini says arm circles and shoulder rolls bodyweight squats and the world's greatest stretch you know what that is yes go on show me on the floor yeah yes it is then look hold on it gives you exercise yeah yeah yeah it gives you exercises so it's 25 to 30 minutes this lower body push dumbbell goblet squats fancy that yeah he knows what he's doing next the upper body pull dumbbell bent over rolls yeah that's it well done next the lower body pull dumbbell Romanian deadlifts.

35:06Is that there? There, that's good. And then you cool down. Well, I need it. There's all sort of function on here where you can film yourself doing a workout and it'll tell you about your form.

35:18Ant McPartlin:So you thought you were doing it the right way? Do you want to try it? Come on then. Yeah, let's do it. Come on, hop on the table then. So, Gem and I, can you be brutally honest about the form of these push-ups, please? Thank you. Let's take an honest look at what's going on here. Oh, yeah, let's. As you asked, here is my brutally honest opinion on the form of those push-ups. I noticed that you capped your body in a nice straight line from your head to your heels, which is an excellent foundation. You also positioned your hands well and lowered your chest nicely, showing good control. Overall, it was a solid display of form.

35:54Really? That's handy, though, isn't it? Really? Like, if you're working out at home... Yeah. Just on your own. Just on your own. You've got no idea whether you're doing it right, you're doing it wrong. Using that.

36:05Ant McPartlin:Very helpful. That's very helpful. That's really good. But also, you need the right nutrition. Yes, you do. That's an important bit. Gemini, what about food before a workout? Because I love eggs. Should I be eating lots of eggs before I work out or after I work out? No, never. And also give me some other high protein snack ideas too, please. Yes, please do, Gemini. Gemini says eggs are fantastic for fitness, but timing is everything. Because they contain both proteins and fats, they digest slowly. So after your workout is the best time to eat your eggs. Before you work out, avoid eating lots of eggs.

36:43Ant McPartlin:Before workout... Because you're... Maybe, yeah. Yeah. Scare your PT off. Before a workout... Yes. You could have some Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey. No, nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's nice. Yeah, I'm up for that. Gemini says, rice cakes with a thin layer of peanut butter and banana slices. Oh, now you're talking. That sounds good. Anything with banana slices. Anything. That's a great energy boost. Other than the next. Without it feeling heavy. Then great food for after workout, hard boiled eggs and a handful of almonds. Thank you very much, Gemini. Well done, Gemini. With Gemini, you can chat live with a truly helpful AI assistant.

37:20You can jump in, get some fitness tips, ask for more details, or even show what you're talking about by sharing your screen or your camera as well. It's there for a real chat, not just a quick question and done.

37:31Ant McPartlin:Absolutely. Download the Gemini app today to unlock the power of Google AI on your phone. Check responses, set of required, compatibility and availability varies. 18 plus. 17th of April, 1994. Day 21 of life on the road. It's a long, hard slog, isn't it? Sure is, but it's an exciting day. Why? Chart day. It's chart day, isn't it? Chart day. And the final position was...

38:02Ant McPartlin:27. Oh, take it back, take it back. Pull them back in, pull them back. We went down the charts. We went down the charts, guys. Yeah. I would have loved, underlined, to have stayed at 25. So would I. But hey, 27 is just great. Well done, well done. Congratulations, anyway. Congratulations. Not only sniffed that, is it. Number 27. Well done, well done. That's all right. How brilliant. Do you want to know who the top 10 were? Oh, yeah, go on. Who was top 10 that week? 10, You Are The Best by D Ream. Yeah, I know I am, but what's the title of the song? Number nine, Rock My Heart by Hadaway. Hadaway.

38:35Hadaway. Eight, I'll Remember by Madonna. No, I don't. Not funny. Ironically. I don't remember. We've forgotten. Seven, Like To Move It. I like to move it, move it. I like to move it, move it. I like to move it, move it. You like to move it. Number six, The Real Thing by Tony DeBart. Number five, The Sign by The Ace of Face.

38:57Ant McPartlin:I saw the sign. And it opened up my eyes. Keep going. And it always keeps going. It makes you feel uncomfortable, doesn't it? Four, doop by doop. Doop, doop, dooby-dooby-doob-doop-doop. Keep going. Doop, dooby-dooby-doob-doop. Doop, dooby-doob-doop. Three, Streets of Philadelphia by Bruce Spring. Streets of Philadelphia. My clothes don't fit me no more. Yeah, I get it. Two, the most beautiful girl in the world by Cymbal. Could you be the most beautiful girl in the world? Enough, that's enough. Who do you think number one was? Number one was... Edwin Collins. I've never known a girl like you before.

39:32No.

39:36Ant McPartlin:Top Lauder, Dancing in the Moonlight. No, does begin with T. The Turtles. No, the. The Terrifics. No, the. The Tremolos. No, the. No, the. I thought you were going, no, the. Oh, no. There is neighbor.

39:56Top loaner, dancing in the moonlight. Is that what you started? So I wasn't listening. No, the.

40:09Oh, God. Just tell us, for Christ's sake. Take that. Take that. Everything changes. No.

40:22Oh, God. Oh, my God. Sweating in here. No.

40:30Ant McPartlin:This one is from Rowan and Dana. Hello, Ant and Dec, following on from the previous musical impressions. Can either of you do any good impressions of people? Maybe famous people, dead or alive. Love the podcast. Respect, guys. I can do share. Do you believe in love after love?

40:51You can't do that. Do you believe in love after love? Anyone? Can anyone ask you? No matter how hard I try,

41:04Ant McPartlin:you can be pushing me aside and I can't put it back. This hasn't been a very successful item. I'm so sorry, Rowan and Dana. I'm sure we do. Go to Manzi. Cough, get out of my f***ing kitchen, you f***ing turd. Is that good?

41:23I mean, we'll have to believe it. Well, it was good though, right? Yeah, it was good though, right?

41:31Ant McPartlin:We've been through some more comments. I've had a look at some more. I haven't looked at them. You haven't looked? I never look at them. Absolutely loving the podcast. Just want you both to relax a bit more. Shut up. They're doing this to our milk now, aren't they? I think so. I think they are. I think they are. I'm not going to respond to it. Don't respond. I won't. I won't. My six-year-old would love this. That's just downright rude. Isn't it though? That is just rude. I take that as a compliment. Do you? I think that means it appeals to the whole family. We shouldn't have done all that swearing last week.

42:00Thank God we bleeped it. I know. Because the six-year-olds, that wouldn't go down well. Are they all swearing at six?

42:04Ant McPartlin:No, they're not actually. Have they ever sworn? I don't think I've caught them swearing. Right. They're good. I'm very careful not to swear in front of them. Right. Although I have let it slip a couple of times. What do you say instead of swearing? Well, you go back to a lot of, oh my gosh. Right. Oh my giddy aunt. Giddy aunt? Yeah. Okay. Do you think you're just talking about me? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe that's why I keep saying it. Is giddy aunt coming around today? He's so silly on your land. He's really happy and giddy all the time. Yeah. Oh my godfathers. Oh my godfathers. Yeah. Right. Okay. That's a new one.

42:40Never heard that one. What do you say instead of... Shoot. What do you say? Because we can bleep the... You can bleep these. You can bleep my swear words and then try and guess the swear word from what Dex replaced it with.

42:57What do you say? I don't call my kids that. What do you replace that word with?

43:04Ant McPartlin:I don't replace that. I just don't use it. You don't use it? I don't use it.

43:10I don't call them that. No, I know you don't call them that, but like say, oh, you dirty...

43:20No, you're not saying it. You're not saying it to your kids. You're saying it like you're watching the match, for example. Oh, right, right, right. Say you're watching the Newcastle PSG game, right, the other week. And they're awarded that penalty. And the referee awarded the penalty after two minutes. And the referee was a right... You would have called him, if the kids were listening, a right... Silly goose. I want you. Yeah, that's what I'm calling. Okay, okay. That's what I mean. Come on, you silly goose. And if you're in the car and someone is in a car in front of you and they're not getting a move on, you want them to get a move on, they need to edge forward a bit.

44:02So instead of saying, oh, for f***ing, you would say... Oh, flip me. Flip me, okay. Yeah. Okay. Good. I'm learning. This is all learnings for me. You see? Good.

44:13Ant McPartlin:I mean, it doesn't quite get the anger out in the same way. No, I bet it doesn't. No. No, it doesn't. You kind of need to go... Blip me, you silly goose.

44:23Would that help? No, it doesn't do it, does it? It doesn't do it. No, it doesn't do it. Dex Diary, the grand finale. Ah, Michael. I love Michael's voice. And wires have risen and fallen. Yeah. Civilizations have crumbled into dust, yet somehow, against all odds, Dex Diary endured. What began as a simple journey between friends became something far greater. A tale of courage, endurance, and one iconic bum cut. across the scenic landscapes of Scunthorpe, through the windswept majesty of Newcastle, and into the untamed wilderness of Port's Mouth, two brave explorers, PJ and Duncan, ventured where few men dared to go.

45:18Marilyn's nightclub. What did they find, you say? Stages, stardom, but never a hairdryer in sight. How he survived those dark hours without one remains a mystery to modern science. Alas, they continued their quest from city to city, town to town, where the girls all went wild. There were moments where asses were grabbed. There were moments where willies were grabbed. Even a brush with theft, Ant's Hat, a national treasure, a cultural landmark, very nearly swiped. Yet, all of this was merely the beginning. The boys crossed the vast frontiers of the UK in search of answers. Today, they get them.

46:11It all comes down to this. One final adventure. One final chapter. Will PJ and Duncan's friendship survive? Will they ever appear on TV again? Will they ever get to make a podcast? Fasten your seatbelts, hide your hats, and protect your willies. And for heaven's sake, can someone get Deck a hairdryer? There is only one way to find out what happened. This is the spectacular, the unbelievable, final installment of Deck's Diary.

46:57Oh, Michael Sheen, you are a legend. Thank you so much. That is the perfect run-up, the perfect prelude to what I'm sure will be a fitting, fitting finale. It's quite underwhelming, guys. We'll be the judge of that. As Michael said, there's a lot of questions unanswered, and I hope that this will tie it all up in a nice little bow and answer all those questions and even pop a little cherry on the top. Okay. Good luck, Dec. I'll get it. I'll just whip it out. Thanks, Michael, for doing that, by the way. That was brilliant.

47:40Ant McPartlin:It was amazing. Can we just cut that up and use that for other bits of the pod? Yeah. Especially the bit where he talks about willies. Protect your willies. Protect your willies. Yeah, just use that. Yeah, it's good. Safe sex. Protect your willies, boys.

47:55Ant McPartlin:so the very the very fact that this is the last diary excerpt I know we're all very excited about it that's why they're all wearing wigs that's why I'm wearing this that's why Michael's done that that's why I've had voice notes I think I'd started to lose interest in keeping a diary oh what but this is the last instalment it is day 24 of Life on the Road okay it is the 20th of April 1994. What a day. Oh, see? It started well. It started well. It's moving day. We are moving out of our manager's current house and into the new place. Fortunately, we were able to get out of the way by having a photo shoot for Smash Hits.

48:46That's good. That's up. That's a step up from the Daily Star.

48:51Ant McPartlin:Which is where we started. Pop bands, it is. Which is where we started. It went really, really well. Oh, did it? See, it's good. The photographer, Simon, was excellent. Was he? Not that I'd encountered that many photographers at this point in my life. I wonder why you thought he was excellent. I don't know. He was excellent. Simon what? Don't know. Okay. Another question left unanswered. Did a few pieces for the magazine. Scruples and Mr and Mr oh my god we play that all the time all the time not out of choice just people think people think it's something we've never done before so they get us to do it still now to see how well we knew each other that would have been the first time we played that one of the first times the origin story I think I won that one you can't what do you mean you think you won it I won it you wrote that in your diary yeah oh what a competitive I think Why would you put that in there?

49:51Ant McPartlin:Because I won it. I won Mr. and Mr. Like I won air hockey. And you won bowling. And I won bowling and air hockey. Oh my God. Touchy subject, as I said back in the diary. Anyway, back to Maidstone and out for, guess what? A curry. Yep, a curry. It was a pretty nice one though. Back home to the new house and ready for the start of a new chapter. Into bed amongst the half unpacked cardboard boxes. I don't know which one has my hairdryer. Yay! Declan.

50:35Ant McPartlin:She's wanked in a tear. Don't cry because it's over. Just smile because it happened.

50:43Well, how do you feel?

50:45Ant McPartlin:Like, it is a bit of a closing of a chapter. That was the last day we'd moved into that new house our manager's new house yeah I remember we didn't stay with her for that long no but we moved into their new house surrounded by cardboard boxes it was the start of a new chapter and I kind of lost interest in keeping a diary I wish I kept it but that's a shame because not long after that last diary entry things started getting better and I think we must have got so busy then that I just I don't know I just fell into bed fell into bed stopped doing the diary what a shame and the rest is history well we're very pleased that you wrote what you did I'm glad you enjoyed it and lots of memories and we can now put it to bed put it in a little time machine bit underwhelming at the end though I told you I told you it was wasn't it really what a shame it's nice that the last word was hairdryer yeah it's true and that's coming from a bald man so that takes a lot for him to say that That takes a lot.

51:48Yeah. Okay. So just take that.

51:51Ant McPartlin:Yes, but he does use it on the rest of his body. He's very here suit.

51:59Ant McPartlin:In anticipation of this week, and this guy sat on his bed, I thought it might be quite nice to write a letter to my younger self. To. What? To write a letter to my younger self to thank him for the diary. Okay. Shall I read it? Yes. I wrote this this week. See what you think of this. Dear Declan, it's me, stroke you, from the future. From 2026. Sounds exciting, right? Yeah. Well, I'm sad to report we're not yet travelling around in hover cars nor do we have robo-servants or space colonies. But I wanted to write you this letter to tell you that I found and have just finished reading the diary you kept in March and April 1994 on yours and Anne's new podcast, which you can hear and watch on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and all other podcast providers, and on Belt the Box channel on YouTube.

52:52Ant McPartlin:I realise pretty much all of that information won't make any sense whatsoever, considering you haven't been introduced to the internet yet, you don't know what an email is, and you haven't even started texting. That's coming later this year when you get your first Nokia 2110. But rest assured, it is a good thing. It's brought back a lot of memories from that time, things I'd forgotten, to be honest, and it's reminded me how life felt for you back then. I remember it was exciting and exhilarating, yet daunting and bewildering. Thrilling and intoxicating, yet intense and exhausting. I know you think you and Ant have left to go on a bit of an adventure for a few weeks, but, and you don't realise it yet, you've both pretty much left home now and your lives will never return to how they have been.

53:33Oh, but it turned out all right, guys.

53:39Ant McPartlin:I don't want to reveal too much of what happens next because you need to live the next adventure ahead and experience the highs and lows and the lessons they will teach you. Those lessons will make you the man you are today. However, I have a few words of advice to make the next part of your life and the ride that is ahead a bit more enjoyable. Grab every opportunity that comes your way and give it your all. I know this foundation has been laid by the wonderful people you've worked with on Biker Grove and rest assured they've set you on the right path. Treasure the true friendships you make. Lots of people will come and go but the real friendships last.

54:13Ant McPartlin:Don't take them for granted though. They must be nurtured. That's why, and I know this will be no spoiler, yours and Anne's friendship will endure through thick and thin, and if you can believe it, is even stronger in 2026 than it is there now. Damn straight. Stop and smell the flowers from time to time and don't pay so much attention to the weeds. Don't worry so much about things not being perfect or what's coming next, and have those anxieties ruin the present. Enjoy what's coming your way and appreciate it. Get home as much as you can. That's my bit of heartbeat. Yeah, my bad man.

54:53Ant McPartlin:Get home as much as you can. Your family have given you the best start in life. Your success is their success, so share it with them. You'll miss them and Newcastle more than you know, but they'll always be there for you. They're not all going to be there forever though, so appreciate them all while you have them. don't get too high with the highs or too low with the lows you'll have your fair share of both and it's too exhausting to constantly ride that rollercoaster finally and most importantly buy a flippin' hair dryer they're not that expensive splash out what's the matter with you but thank you for writing the diary I wish you'd done more but it's been a fantastic reminder of a special period in your life.

55:43Ant McPartlin:Say hi to 1994 and for me. Tell him to remember he's a great kid and it'll all be okay, even when it feels like it won't. Look after each other, enjoy the ride, and hey, respect guys. Love from Future Deck. P.S. Buy Tesla, Apple, and loads of Bitcoin.

56:18Ant McPartlin:I said I wasn't going to cry
