In short
A “Challenge Ant” (SMTV/Belterbox) 25-year rematch bonus episode where Ant McPartlin returns as host and faces 34-year-old former contestant Charlotte Dowdell, now competing in a pop-culture/knowledge quiz with music-chart prizes and a final “killer question” for a CD player.
Guest backgrounds
Charlotte was an 8-year-old dance-school kid who stepped in last-minute in 2001; she now works as a client experience assistant in flexible office spaces in the city. She says her win helped her life, and she was recognized at an aquarium.
Key claims
No consolation prizes back then; Charlotte “wants revenge” and nearly matches her original performance; she gambles for the star prize.
Notable examples
Questions include Hagrid actor (Nick Frost), Last One Laughing winner (David Mitchell), Disneyland Paris opening month/year, and the killer question from Ted Lasso (“biscuits” vs Ant’s “Oklahoma”). Charlotte loses the killer question but wins CDs and the CD player.

1:49Ant McPartlin:Hello and welcome to a very special bonus pod episode. Now you might have seen on our last episode we had a little look back at some Challenge Ant that is now featuring on Belterbox. And I got to thinking, wouldn't it be incredible if we got somebody who played Challenge Ant all those years ago to come back and give them another pasting? Well, it just so happens the little girl who was in the video that we looked at last week got in touch and said, I wouldn't mind coming back and showing that Geordie gas bag exactly what he's made of. so we thought why don't we do that so let's bring him back then the self-professed king of common knowledge it's mr ant mcportlin
2:42Declan Donnelly:yes this is not the same kid no no it's slightly cheaper than the one we had a saturday morons
2:48Ant McPartlin:Wow. Well, I like it. Because that one of the Saturday mornings was not expensive. It wasn't expensive. Looks good, right? It's amazing how quickly you've slipped back into it.
2:57Declan Donnelly:Well, it's just like an old pair of shoes. You put them on, it's just comfy, isn't it? They're just there. The cape's comfy. The introduction is the king of common knowledge. It's really apt and correct still, I think. Do you? Yeah, even more so. We'll find out. Even more so. I don't have the same bloodlust as I had back in the day. You know, I really want that they beat those kids, didn't I? You did. And it was, because it was our idea. It was a challenge. And we said, we've got to get them on. And if they lose, they can't win anything. That was our thing. We can't give them an easy ride.
3:27Ant McPartlin:Because the producers at the time went, oh, but maybe we give them a consolation prize. No, we were like, no, no. If they gamble and they lose, they go home with nothing. And it was a life lesson. That's what we said.
3:39Declan Donnelly:That's what we said. That's how we justified our actions back in the day.
3:43Ant McPartlin:Now we're 25 years older. We have children of our own. And if somebody said that to my kid,
3:47Declan Donnelly:I'd punch him squarely in the mouth. No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't. No, no. People came on, they had a great time. Yeah. So we would never embarrass anybody, but we just had some proper competitive fun. Yes.
4:01Ant McPartlin:More often than not, though, the children did win.
4:04Declan Donnelly:Well, not to start with, but near the end they did. Whenever Harry Potter questions were involved, that's when I would fall short. That was your Achilles heel, wasn't it?
4:13Ant McPartlin:That was my Achilles heel, yeah. Well, we saw her on the pod last Thursday. She has agreed to come back. Has she? And take you on again. She said, I'm still not afraid of that Geordie gas bag. Did she now? She said, I can take him on. She's got a new set of questions. Please welcome eight-year-old Charlotte Dowdell. Yay! Blimey, Charlotte, you're not eight anymore. No, I'm a little bit older now. In fact, it is your birthday today, is it not? It is my birthday today. How old is it? I'm 34.
4:47Declan Donnelly:Happy birthday, Charlotte. Thank you very much. Happy birthday. Thank you. Nice to see you again. Really good to see you too. I'd really like to get my revenge. It's funny, I thought before you sat down in that chair, I thought, I'm not bothered about winning. You know, I'm older and wiser and got kids in me. Now you've sat down in the chair, I really want to win. Oh yeah, no, I'm more than happy to absolutely wipe the floor with you again. Oh! It's good! It's good! Come on! No, I'm just going to keep my time. How did it feel when you won all those years ago? It was amazing. Just the whole experience was incredible.
5:19Like, and it was quite a chance thing, actually. Well, how did it happen? So I was part of a dance school. Used to do a lot of performing growing up. And one of the mums worked at the studios or something like that and said, would the dance school like to come along and be part of the audience? We were like, absolutely. Yes, of course we do. That'd be amazing. and then we think it was either the Wednesday or the Thursday before she came running in she was like telling John child has dropped out this week we need someone to fill would any of the kids and my mum as my granddadder would always say elbows out yep Charlotte will oh she will well she also it was it was quite a quick turnaround very quick turnaround we had to get questions ready we had to send it all in we were coming up and and that was it it was it was pretty quick but ever the professional.
6:09Well done. Stepped into the line like only two happily. Well, looking at the clip back
6:13Declan Donnelly:on the last part, it doesn't show that you stepped in at the last minute. Oh, thank you.
6:17Ant McPartlin:You were amazing. We are so thrilled that you're back here 25, 25 years later to do it again.
6:25Declan Donnelly:What do you do now for a living if you don't mind me asking? So I'm a client experience assistant and it all sounds very fancy. I work in the city. I work for a company that do flexible office spaces and stuff. So I'm customer facing, you know, sort of dealing with all sorts of clients and doing all that sort of stuff. So would you say your win on Challenge Ant has helped you excel in life? Well, 100%. Do you see? You know, the life-changing opportunities that I had from that. Actually, to be fair, two weeks after the show went out, we were up at the aquarium for my mum's birthday and two little girls came over to me and went, were you on Challenge Ant a couple of weeks ago?
7:01Yeah, yeah, yeah, I did. Amazing. And I was like, this is so cool. This is the best.
7:06Ant McPartlin:Should we give you a little warm-up with some of Charlotte's questions from 2001? Oh, yeah, go on then. See how many of these you would have got right. Right. Who's the new male presenter of The Big Breakfast? Oh, Johnny Vaughan. No. Your answer back in 2001 was Richard Bacon. Was that correct? No, you got it wrong then as well. Oh, okay. It was Paul Tonkinson. Oh. Something was thrown at Tony Blair this week back in 2001. What was it? Not an egg. Tomato? Oh. Oh. He got it right. He can do it. We're all right. He got it right. He's got the memory. In 2001, who did Chelsea beat in the third round of the FA Cup?
7:43Ant McPartlin:Oh, come on. I didn't. No idea. Peterborough. Oh, OK. Which ex-stender announced her pregnancy yesterday? Marty McCruchin. No, Patsy Palmer. Oh, close. Ricky. Close. Which member of the royal family was called horrible this week? I actually remember this as well. No, Princess Anne. Oh, really? Oh, you'd never say that about Princess Anne now, would you? Here's one that isn't time sensitive. What is Batman's real name? Bruce Wayne. Yes. You got that right back then as well. More on that level, please. Charlotte, more on that level. I'm not going to guarantee anything. So that is some of the questions from 2001, but we have a new set of questions from 2026.
8:25Ant McPartlin:Let me tell you what you're playing for today. Today you are playing for the top 10 singles in the singles chart. Is it the top 10 singles from now? From today. Great. Okay, that's good. that's good amazing for every question you get right you'll get a CD thank you at the end of it all you can decide whether you want to gamble everything you've won so far on one last killer question if you do you walk away with today's star prize which is this CD player this is amazing amazing I was going to say I don't know how I'm going to play the CDs if I'm winning well
8:56Declan Donnelly:do you know CDs are making a comeback as well they are actually because the listener wants that better sound
9:01Ant McPartlin:I have to remind you Charlotte and I think you know this only too well. If you gamble and get your killer question correct, you will walk away today with absolutely nothing.
9:12Declan Donnelly:I keep this and I keep that. And you get to enjoy those CDs.
9:16Ant McPartlin:Let's play a challenge, Hans. Let's play a challenge, Hans.
9:25Ant McPartlin:Question one then is for the number 10 single. It's Noah Kahan, Porch Light. But we've had to get you the album because CD singles don't exist. Great. Love albums. Okay. Your favourite question. Who plays Hagrid in the HBO series of Harry Potter? It's happening again!
9:45Declan Donnelly:It's happening again and I know this. I was reading about this last week. Oh my God, it's so obvious when I hear it. Three seconds to answer. The big fella. What's he got?
9:57Ant McPartlin:Time's up.
9:57Declan Donnelly:Come on.
9:58Ant McPartlin:Charlotte. Nick Frost.
9:59Declan Donnelly:Nick Frost!
10:00Ant McPartlin:Nick Frost, of course, is Nick Frost. Another Hagrid question trips him up. Yes! Another one. So there we go. Charlotte, that's one to you. Thank you very much. Thank you. Question number two is for Sabrina Carpenter house tour. I love Sabrina Carpenter as well.
10:17Declan Donnelly:Question two. My daughter really loves Sabrina Carpenter, so I'd like to win that, just saying. You're not going to. It's good. Fighting fun. Who won Last One Laughing season two? For God's sake. Come on. for God's sake for Sabrina come on is it was it time up what you only get five seconds to answer oh my God I don't hear the clock
10:42Ant McPartlin:go on Charlotte it was David Mitchell after a tie break with Sam Campbell right yeah did you watch it
10:50Declan Donnelly:I watched season one which I loved I haven't watched season two yet fair enough well now you know spoiler alert I'm sorry about that
11:00Ant McPartlin:You don't need to know who's one, to be fair. That's 2-0 to Charlotte. Yes. Question number three is for the number eight single from Ray. Where is my husband? She still hasn't found him, has she? I don't know where he is. Where is he? What is he doing? She's not wrong, though. I haven't got one. Oh. Not yet. Not yet, anyway. Wait after this. You get recognised in the aquarium all over again. That would be amazing. Okay. Which manufacturer produces the most tyres per year? Michelin that's the wrong answer the correct answer is Charlotte Lego
11:37Declan Donnelly:oh that's wrong that's out of there you don't need to try and box me with questions I'm bad enough as it is but it is the truth you can look it up yeah I bet it is the truth

14:14Declan Donnelly:Enid Blyton.
14:16Ant McPartlin:He's got one right.
14:19Declan Donnelly:Good God. That feels good. I'm not celebrating though. It seems like a hollow point. Does it?
14:27Ant McPartlin:Of course it does! Don't be so hard on yourself. It's such a tough start. Question number eight is for the number three single, Sombra, I Barely Know Her. There was a magician who recently appeared on BGT. Who is he related to? Oh, he's related to Paul Daniels. Oh, he's back in it! He's back in the game! It's a late fight back, but that makes it 6-2! 14:55Declan Donnelly:It's a good song. Okay. Who hosted the Olivier Awards this year? Who hosted the Olivier Awards? Oh, I hate like someone really actor-y. They're really good at what they do. They've had a lot of time on stage and on screen as well. I just need a name to come to me.

16:20Declan Donnelly:off where I was back in the day just a couple of questions yeah not doing too bad not doing too bad thank you
16:27Ant McPartlin:now Charlotte of course you can go away with those seven CDs you can take them home and enjoy them or you can gamble on one final question if Ant gets it wrong you will walk away with today's star prize which is the CD player however you have to remember if Ant gets that question right you go home with absolutely nothing and he will take those seven CDs it's a very big decision what do you think she should do everybody Gamble! Gamble! Gamble! Gamble! It's not up to them Charlotte, it's up to you. What are you gonna do? Go straight back. What are you gonna do? I'm gonna gamble. She's gonna gamble!
17:06She's come on!
17:07Ant McPartlin:For the killer question!
17:13Ant McPartlin:You join us at a very tense moment here in the studio. Charlotte has won seven of the ten, she's decided to gamble. She wants the other three, but most of all, she wants the day star prize, which is that CD player to play the CDs on. Otherwise, she won't be able to listen to them. She'll have to use them as coasters. Very nice coasters. Very nice coasters. Charlotte, how confident are you in your killer question today? Well, with the way it's been going. Yeah, yeah. I'd say be very confident. I feel confident. I feel good about this one. But you never know.
17:47Declan Donnelly:This could be the one I just know. We say that limitless win all the time. This could be the one. I just know. That knowledge could just be in there. Could just be in there rattling around. I tell you what, though. Five seconds is not a lot of time to think of the answer. I mean, whether my brain has slightly slowed down over the course of my life. Now I'm 50-year-old. Could be that. Could be a bit of a... It could be that I'm just not studying pop culture and, you know, things like I used to. Because we were immersed in it back then. It was literally what you were doing. Yeah. Whereas now it's like you do so many things.
18:20Declan Donnelly:I would like to refute two of the questions in the previous 10 questions. The Lego tyres was misleading. It's the answer. And the Disneyland Paris, yeah, and month it was open, also was not, it's not necessarily something that is of the moment now. Just saying. Oh, all right. All right.
18:46Ant McPartlin:Well, this is... The fighting talk has come back, has it? Yeah, it has, actually. It has. Well, this is a very tense moment. As I said, you never know. This knowledge might just be in there. It might be. It might be just hiding behind the big fella and the little fella who hosts the new movie years. Stop it. Stop saying big fellas and little fellas in my ear. The score's 7-3. This, for today's star prize, let's have today's killer question. in the Apple TV series Ted Lasso which word Hang on, can you just pause there a second what was that noise? is that a good noise or a bad noise? that was a bad noise, I watched two seasons of it okay, okay, okay start again Charlotte in the Apple TV series Ted Lasso
19:42which word do Ted and Rebecca use when wanting to know the answer to a question truthfully?
19:50Declan Donnelly:Your time's started. Biscuit!
19:55Ant McPartlin:Oh my goodness, guys! Where did you pull that from? Is it right? No, it's the wrong answer! Oh, God's sake! God's sake! You've been there! God's sake! Sean is the winner!
20:14You're fake, you're fake, you're fake, you're fake. You are your fake, you're fake. You're fake, you're fake, you're fake, you're fake.
20:24Declan Donnelly:You are your fake. Oh, God, this is even worse than it was back in the day. I've got kids watching this. I'm embarrassed. It's like your worst nightmare. How cheap is that dunces ad, by the way?
20:37Ant McPartlin:Very cheap.
20:38Declan Donnelly:If we ever do this again, we have to spend money on dunces ad. I think it was at least cardboard before even. I'm itching already what was the answer? Oklahoma Oklahoma because I remember that she loved his biscuits he brought her biscuits all the time biscuits for the boss yeah yeah biscuits for the boss yes of course what a shame thank you Charlotte thank you I did not enjoy a second of that they'll be right back the worst day maybe I need to take on someone who I beat back in the day so I've just got an advantage over them mentally psychologically before they even sit in the chair yes so if anybody's out there who I did beat who would like to get their revenge, but who's willing to be pasted twice.
21:16Get in touch.
21:17Declan Donnelly:Get in touch with us. This girl's too good. She's too good on the day and she's too good today.
21:23Ant McPartlin:Back in the day, we used to ask people who wanted to apply to send a letter to us at SMTV entitled, I'm not afraid of that Geordie gas bag. So if he's played you before and he's beat you before, can you email us at hangingoutatbeltabox.com and in the subject put, I'm still not afraid of that Geordie gas bag. and you can take them on again. Unfortunately, I have to take away... I'm going to pass them on.
21:46Declan Donnelly:Three CDs. Well, can I just say happy birthday from us? Thank you very much, yes. Best birthday present ever. Enjoy them. Honestly, it's lovely seeing you again. Honestly. It really was. I've loved every second of this, genuinely. When you guys mentioned about it, it was my sister that put it out on our family chat and went, really think you should have a look at this. And I was like, absolutely, yes, let's do it.
22:08Ant McPartlin:We've wanted to do this for ages to get kids who we played back in the day, back on the show to do it again. So thank you so much for coming down and doing it. She goes home with all 10 CDs and that CD player. Look at it. Look at it, Anne. I know. Just look at it.
22:23Declan Donnelly:I'm very jealous. Imagine the tinny sound coming out of that when I'm cooking in the kitchen. The nostalgia I'm going to go through. Yeah, I bet. It's going to be wild. Listen, well done. Come on, give us a hug. Absolutely brilliant. Well done. Let's hear it for Charlotte, everybody.
22:42Ant McPartlin:Come on. Shall I take this off? He's taking his robe off. Taking the robe off. Goodbye. Unlucky cape.
22:51Declan Donnelly:Where is the original cape? I don't have it. It would have disintegrated by now when I reckon it was 25 years ago. That was tough, wasn't it? No. Well, yeah. She was really good. She was great. Really good questions. I wish I had prepped more. for, you know, proper kind of pop culture-y style questions. You just need to get your head in the game of that.
23:13Ant McPartlin:Yeah.
23:13Declan Donnelly:And five seconds to answer that is no time at all. By the time your brain has worked out what she said, the time's up. Five seconds is too short. If we do it again, we've got to up it. Seven? Given, yeah, seven, eight, seven, an extra couple of seconds would be...
23:34Ant McPartlin:Eight bananas, eight seconds.
23:35Declan Donnelly:Yeah, eight bananas, eight seconds. That's good. Countdown and bananas. Eight seconds. Yeah.
23:39Ant McPartlin:There must be other kids out there who either beat you or you beat them. Yeah. There's not many that you beat.
23:46Declan Donnelly:There was a few. Was there? There was definitely a few out there that I beat. I mean, they might have had really sorry lives after it because of me beating them. So, you know, just saying. Might not want to get in touch. They might just be embarrassed. It's hard, isn't it? Yeah, it's just hard. And now everyone's going to see it. and realise I'm thick. Which I'm not thick. You're not thick. I protest that I'm not thick.
24:12Ant McPartlin:Even though we all sang that song and pointed at you. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Let's play some more Challenge Hunt then. Yeah, we'll do that.
24:18Declan Donnelly:And maybe some Wonky Donky at some point. Wonky Donky we should play. We should definitely get some kids that we shouted at, you mainly, back on SMTV Live and see if we can play it again with them. I love this. Should we do it? This nostalgia fest. Yeah, let's do a bit of a nostalgia fest on the Board of Seps.
24:34Ant McPartlin:If you want to see more Challenge Hand or some more Wonky Donky, they are, of course, on the Belterbox YouTube channel. There's loads of stuff on there.
24:40Declan Donnelly:There's loads of stuff. We've got loads of Saturday Night Takeaway stuff on there, loads of SMTV Live stuff on there. If you haven't subscribed, what are you waiting for? Subscribe, you idiots! That's the taste of what you'll get. That's the kind of Wonky Donky vibe. Yeah, exactly. That's the vibe.

24:57Declan Donnelly:It was not enjoyable for a second.
24:59Ant McPartlin:With another main pod.
